You know, I've been worrying about Chuck Wilson and Glory all night long. You suppose he'll leave her alone like you told him to?

Makes you feel kind of sorry for him, don't it? I mean, the way she was teasing him and all.

[Matt Dillon]

She's paying for it now.

[Chester]

Well, yes, sir, but so is Chug.

Well, next time, try washing out the pot. Huh?

Washing out the pot. Well, now, if you ain't careful, you can wash the flavor clean out of a pot by doing that. Well, hello, Ma.

Oh, Marshall. What's the matter, Moss? Well, maybe it ain't nothing, but it just seemed kind of funny, that's all. Oh, what's wrong?

About an hour ago, this big buffalo.

[Matt Dillon]

Hunter come into my stable. Chug something or other. I never did hear his last name. He wanted a horse and rig So I rented him one. And then him and this girl live out.

[Chug Wilson]

Girl?

[Matt Dillon]

Yeah, you know, that saloon girl, Lori. And I got to thinking afterwards. That Lori, she looked awful scared.

[Chester]

Mr. Dillon, he's done it. He's kidnapped her.

[Matt Dillon]

Come on, Chester.

[Chester]

At least the buggy trail is easy to Farmer John.

[Matt Dillon]

Yeah. Doesn't look like they're moving very fast.

[Chester]

I wonder how come Chuck could do.

[Laurie]

A thing like that.

[Matt Dillon]

Ellie's a stubborn man, Chester.

[Chester]

But it sure does seem crazy.

[Matt Dillon]

I guess when Chuck makes up his mind, nothing's going to change.

[Chester]

Mr. Don, look. There's somebody hanging from that tree. On it now.

[Matt Dillon]

Let's go. Give me a hand, chester. Yes, sir.

[Chester]

Mr. Dunn.

[Matt Dillon]

Yeah. Rogue Judson. Easy now.

[Chester]

His neck's broke.

[Matt Dillon]

And that didn't happen long ago.

No, sir, Mr. Dun. You supposed to Chug Wilson done this?

[Matt Dillon]

It looks that way. Pull up, Chester.

[Chester]

That's it, ain't it? That's Moss Grimm's buggy down there by the creek. I don't see Lori no worse, though.

[Matt Dillon]

No, but there's Chug walking around.

[Chester]

Yes, sir.

[Matt Dillon]

Come.

[Chug Wilson]

Chug. Hello, Marshall. I was just looking at our ranch.

[Matt Dillon]

You were what?

[Chug Wilson]

Our ranch. I bought this piece of land this morning for Lori and me. Sure is pretty bottomland, ain't it?

[Matt Dillon]

Where is she, Chuck?

[Chug Wilson]

Huh?

[Matt Dillon]

Laurie, where is she?

[Chug Wilson]

Over there in the buggy.

[Matt Dillon]

Shasta, go and see.

[Chester]

All right, Chuck.

[Chug Wilson]

I was gonna shore the land. Now there ain't no use, Mr. Dillon.

[Chester]

She's dead, Mr. Dillon. She's been shot.

[Matt Dillon]

Yeah.

[Chug Wilson]

Lori and me, we were gonna go to Hays City and get married. She pretended she didn't want to at all, but I know different, Chug. I was gonna shore the land first off. So she'd know she had something good to come.

[Matt Dillon]

Chuck, what happened?

[Chug Wilson]

Broke Judson. He was waiting for Lori and me out on the road.

[Matt Dillon]

Waiting for you?

[Chug Wilson]

He shot at me, but he hit Laurie. So I took his gun away and hung him from a tree.

[Matt Dillon]

Yeah, we found him.

[Chug Wilson]

Why'd he do that? Why'd he shoot at us? I never done him no harm.

[Matt Dillon]

You threw him down some stairs. You took his woman.

[Chug Wilson]

She was my woman.

[Matt Dillon]

Roque doesn't think so.

[Chug Wilson]

We just didn't know, that's all.

[Matt Dillon]

Now I guess he didn't.

[Chug Wilson]

You gonna put me in jail, Marshall?

[Matt Dillon]

I have to, Chuck.

[Chug Wilson]

Would you do me one thing first? What's that? I brung Laurie out here so she could be on our ranch. Will you let me bury her here? All right, Chuck.

I'll let you bury her.

I think she'd like that. It's kind of peaceful and all. Yeah, I ain't much on words, you know. Some you can say Far Marshall don't need to be much.

Sometimes a little can be too much.

What do you mean by that?

Something I guess you don't understand. Chug. Laurie didn't understand it either.
