The World Series is on the air. This is Ford Bond Maven View Detroit, where the famous Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers start their battle for the world championship. The play by play descriptions of all the World Series games are brought to you with the compliments of the Ford Motor Company, Mr. Henry Ford, Mr. Edgar Ford and your local Ford dealer, producers and distributors of Ford and Lexington and Fires and four trucks. The sponsors will be amply repaid if you get enjoyment from these broadcasts. In order that you might hear the play by play description of this game in its entirety, a number of advertisers have kindly omitted their regular afternoon broadcast. Among those our CA program usually heard at 3:15 over some of these stations. The program this afternoon will be heard instead at 4:30. Also Procter and Gamble, manufacturers of dress and the makers of a removing their broadcast from 3:00' clock to 4:30. In behalf of the Ford Motor Company and the National Broadcasting Company, we wish to thank them for their courtesy. Now fans, ladies and gentlemen, we present a man whose voice has been familiar to you over the air for years. Here he is to give you the thrill and color of this World Series pre game atmosphere. It's wild around here. A crowd fills the park. But here is the man who can tell you about it and picture to you right there in your home. It's Graham McAm. And there he is. Thanks boys. Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the radio audience. We're at Maven Field this afternoon at Destroy Michigan. In just about 15 minutes or even a little less, the World Series will be open by the umpire who will howl play ball. And in this case it will be Geisel of the American League who will be behind the plate this afternoon when he yells play ball. Then the party will start. Magic words for the 47,000 wild eyed, rabid baseball fans gathered in the sand while thousands mill around the park hoping that by some miracle they'll be able to squeeze themselves through those turnstiles tomorrow with a shoehorn or something of the guy, but it's White Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals, the Redbirds. That's the setup and his general thing in his correct the next week to produce a series of games which will make the blood flow plenty fast through the veins of those fortunate fans lucky enough to be here and in the stand down at St. Louis the latter part of the week the bleacher crowd began to gather outside the park two days back and this morning it's 4:00am oh, that's an awful hour to be up. I saw 5000 expected bleacherites waiting more or less patiently or the gates to open. They were a good natured crowd, turning jokes here and there, playing cards, sleeping in blankets or even in newspapers. Those were who were not fortunate enough to have blankets. Even a bit of a trap shooting game was going on here and there. Penny Annie was indulged in the weather coming into Detroit last night on the American Airways was just a bit threatening. It was very thick up above and our ship even had such a difficulty coming in because the haze was so strong. But it's okay now. The weather remains that most of the morning and it looks as though it might possibly rain. But about 11:45 the sun does manage to peep through the haze and although it's not clear now, all thought of rain has been dispelled. That's over for today. Fastball fishing should go mighty well in the semi haze of today. We're situated just off first base on top of a double deck stand and although we're 150ft off the foul line, we're so high up that the bag looks like a short jump from here. The series this year resembles last year's battle in the Both teams are under first year managers. Frankie Briggs, the old Fordham flash, took over the Cardinals at the mid season last year and Mickey Mike Cochran of the Tigers came to Detroit after last season from Philadelphia, of course, where he has been under Tony Mack for many years. Both are playing managers of course, Brink covering second for the Cards and still losing his cap now and then as he jagged those Texas leaguers into right and center field. And Cochran, who is one of the greatest catchers ever to wear a chest protector. Most men know baseball from start to finish. They're no newcomers to the game. They're in there and know every move and both are known as players who are at their best when the going is as money players. There's no choice between these two managers and they're the best there are. I don't believe there ever was a series of promised four colors and spike and pep with that Kepper, Martin, Medway, Frish and the Dean Brothers, Dizzy and Daffy for the Cards and Cochran, Carringer, Greenberg and schoolboy role for the Tigers. Detroit is more hungry for this series than any city in my recollection. Thirteen years at the microphone and World Series. The city has been eating, sleeping and talking World Series for weeks and has packed every available inch of the stand, just about every available inch. Now they're coming in and drove and it won't be long before we won't be able to see a seat in the place unoccupied and to cheer the Tigers on to victory. Opinion is the the outcome seems more even than I've ever seen it before. Pine Band has been entertaining the crowd and Al Jack has furnished a lot of laughs with his antics as leader of the band and playing the clown at third base as only Al can do it. A marble sound keeper has just been manicuring the bass pads and the power lines have been newly chalked and all is ready to grow. Well, the crowd color in from the visual angle is not quite what we have seen it at times. The reason of that theme, of course, is because rather chilly today. Men have on their overcoats and hats. You don't see any white shirts out today, and the ladies are done up in their furs and coats. So the color is just a little bit drab through the sand as it is through the sky. But the incentive to come to this series is there just the same. The umpires today are at the plate. Geisel of the American League, that first base, that grand old clammer, Bill Clem of the National League. And by the way, it's way back in 1909 that Detroit won its last tennis not a World Series, but a pennant. And Bill Flem, way back there in 1909 was one of the umpires of that series. In fact, he's the only one of the four umpires who worked at that time who is alive today. At second base, Reardon Clem will be at first at second base, Reardon of the National League and at third base, Owens of the American League. And in just about seven minutes now, they'll be ready to go. Those are the the umpires. That's the way they're lined up. And as you know, the umpires are quick each day through the series, whether it go four, five, six or seven games. And they go clockwise around. In other words, the man on third today will be at the plate tomorrow. That is Poet and they Switch from day to day, going with the clock. I believe that Dizzy Dean and Al Crowder will fix. I think that that's official. Mickey Cochran has said he will pitch. Al Crowder and Frankie Fritz come through with Dizzy Dean. Dizzy, you know, has been hanging around Frankie Frisch's coattails for the past three days. Every time he got an opportunity to speak to his manager, he'd say, friggs, can I pitch the opening game? And Friggs would look at him and say, maybe. Well, that didn't do Dizzy much good for a while, I suppose, because he just didn't know where he was standing and he was just wild to pick this game. But finally Frankie came through and allowed his great aide who is. Who has, with his brother, practically missed the penance for the National League team. The Cardinals will pick the first game star for Detroit, who was one of the outstanding features of year to bring. Detroit being flagged will not work today. He will probably be picked in the second game, possibly against Daffy Dean, Dizzy's brother, tomorrow afternoon. That is schoolboy row. But today it almost certainly will be Dizzy Dean and Al Crowder. Izzy Dean, Mother codmos, Al Crowder for the Tigers. And now let me go through the lineup for the afternoon. I believe this to be correct and if there are any changes, we will give them to you when they are announced. We'll give you the visitors first. St. Louis Todd. Leading off, Martin Eppermont, who simply walked away with a World Series in his pocket several years ago. That was, in my experience, the greatest one man effort I have ever seen in baseball. Ever. Martin, Third base for the Cardinals, Ross Roth. R o c H R o T K Right field. Frankie Bridge, manager. Second base. Medwick in the green up position, left field. Medwick Allen at first base, Yancy E L A N C E Y Catching. Arati or S A T D I Center field. Durochair D u r o C a T R Short stop. Durochair, one of the greatest of all short stops in the field. Not a terrific batter, but a marvel down there getting in the way of those balls and getting them over to first base. And Jerome Dean picking for the Tiger. Detroit. Mike. He's the leadoff man. Center field. Mike Cochran has put himself in the second position. Mike Hughes batt, third and fourth. You Knowles cleaning up. But now he is up in second place. C o C H R A N essing Deringer. G H R I n G E R marvelous batting boy that plays second base for the Detroit Tigers and one of the real reasons why Detroit is up there. And in this series today, Greenberg last year just a rookie, practically just another first baseman and today one of the big topped out baseball stars, Greenberg, first base. And then that old Washington boy whose acquisition was one of Cochrane's big fine step this year, Bruce Gosling. You know we've seen him playing World Series in Washington these many years and now he's over with before strike because Cochrane was wise enough to pick him up. Rogel at short. R O G D double L short. Owen at third base. O w e n fox in right field. M al crowder will do the fixes. The umpires, we will repeat. There has been a change in the umpire to their position. We gave you what we had, but there has been a change. Cohen is behind the plate, Clam Build Clamor at first base, Geisel at second base and Reardon will be over at third. And now it's just two and a half minutes before this ball game is going to begin.

And I'm going to turn this microphone over. Let the boys who are going to work inning by inning talk for a moment just to loosen up their whistles a little bit so that they'll get started on the right foot. First, Ford Bond will speak to you for a moment. He will turn the microphone over to Tom Manning. Ford Bond of New York and Tom Manning of Cleveland. We're going to call him his nickname, but I Believe we've stopped calling him that nickname, Tom. What do you think of that? Anyway, Ford Bond will speak then. Tom will speak to you and voice is going to start the game. Tom Manning. Tom Manning will work four and a half innings, followed by Ford Bond for four and a half innings. And now the umpires and the managers are abound home plate. Talking the situation over for a moment. Talking of certain ground rules and getting ready to go. The field is clear. All that's out there in the field are a few fielders, mitts lying on the ground and. Come on, Ford, take this microphone. Ford Bond. The boys are just about ready to go out and start this man's ball game. For the first game of the 1934 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Tigers of Detroit. There's the national anthem. Let's listen. I want to revert just a moment to those Gene brothers again. St. Louis won 12 or 15 shutouts this year. The jeans scoring 12 of them and the balance of the staff three boys. Listen to that crowd here as the boys go out into the field. Jerome won seven of those 12 shutouts and Paul five. The balance will be shaft three. And Paul also at his great no hit game against Brooklyn. Now the boys are out on the field and in just a few moments this ball game is going to start opening the series. And my old pal Tommy Manning of Cleveland, come on in. Thank you, Graham. Good afternoon, everybody. We're over at Haven Field. Detroit to all, what a season this is done in baseball. What two teams we have out here. The color, color galore. The team brothers. It's jizzy and zappy. It's that kind of a series. If you please, over here in Detroit, for the first time in the history of the World Series, we've been postponed for 20 minutes to allow the crowd to get in. These fans here are so excited, so enthused over the expectancy of the color in this World Series. And they have all taken it. Good nature. The fan has just left the field despite Tigers are out there now tossing the ball around. Color black still that they've been using throughout the season. It's so black that it looks like a piece of gold. And a gentleman right hander, formerly of the Washington Senators. General Crowder, who picked a great season in 1933. Footballers in the World Series. That's due to overwork. He is out there being acclaimed again by these enthusiastic strike builders. Manager Mike Cochrane, one of the greatest catchers of all time, go through the receiving. Here's the last Cinevo Fix the lineup again for St. Louis. Pepper Martin at third. Jack Rothrock in right, Senator Pritch at second. Medwick in left. Collins at first. Gillance. Cat Orsatti center. Garozer George. And the great Jerome Dizzy Dean in the box. They say he's Dizzy Ty, which we were busy too. 40 choice, white setter. Manager Coughlin hacked. Garringer second. Hank Greenberg first. Boot. Golin West, Billy Rochel short. Collins third. They say he's the most improved player in the majors this year. Boston right field. Fowler hedging. Umpire pick. Owens behind the back. Burner at first. Geisel at second. Reardon back third. The umpire is called. Play ball. Tougher. Mark the right hand hitter. Reception at the box. A great cheer goes up. General Calder takes his glove off. Stands back to the Rosinbag. Looks out towards center field. Gazes out. The results clatter. The old General steps up on the rubber. It won't be long now. Cochran clucked behind the plate cover. Martin taking his aim. Swinging pedal pad up and down in that to his gray uniform with Cardinal red. He's swinging the bat up and down. Up goes Carter's arm. The World Series is on. The first pitch. Hit the boundary down third base. Oren Hazard. He whips it across the diamond. Greenberg and wide. Is out. Run away. The first ball. Pitch. General Carter taking a stroll. Wind up. Put that ball over the heart of the plate. Cut the mark. The right hand batter swung Khan, Suha Parvo and stepped over town. Garanty picks it up. Toss it over to Big Tank Greenberg. The Series is on. Chicago's in the first inning. One out, Nobody on. Jack Rothrock, formerly of the American League, Playing a great game in right field for the Cardinals. He backs them left handed. Reputed to be a very fast runner. One of the fastest in the major league. The pitch. It's outside ball run. Jack Rothrock making a slow, easy aim at the pitchers. And here it comes. And by the way, goes a high pride. Center field out of the center field. And White is waiting for it. He has it. Two and out. Fox foot pedal White ship pedal. Ball ending down at garage. Garager to Orange and Greenberg. To Orange and Greenberg. They almost knock each other down. Then Greenberg follows the ball and almost crosses it over to General Crowder. And we're ready to go. M quick. Mighty quick. The manager, the Cardinals, a left hand hitter, is at that bat. He's a quick hitter, you know. And here it is. Tight call. Up back ball right down the old alley site. Run on the Cardinal manager, Frankie Brick. Two men out in the first inning nobody is on the lineup. The pitch a half swing but it's declared a ball and the count is ball one and cyclone Frankie Fischer all set. The lamp that will clear out of the cherry shoot as they call it and on the count of a cargo manager call one and strike one. Strike. Steps out of the box. Get the pinch in dirt back the ducks off. Excuse me. Back in there again the signal and the wind up all one. Strike one throughout. Nobody on. Here it is. He swings at the ground ball, the bl or it's over near short or goes over retrieves the ball but is unable to make a play. And I'm sure it is a basic for the cargo manager Frankie. That was a ground ball and it sword has air error. That ball was hit to the left of fireball. He leaped over for it, batted it over towards short stop as Roel was running over to back him up. He batted it over to the regular short stop position and was unable to make a play. Hit it forward as an error.

That's the second a single. Now we have runners on first and second. Frankie Frick is on second, Sedgwick, Frankie Finch on second, Frederick on first. Two men out in the first inning and drift Collins who has hit 35 home runs this year for the St. Louis Cardinals. The left hand batter is up. General Crowder. A right hand pitcher is in the box. And it's all for the cargo in the first inning. No run, one hit and one error. Runners remain on first and second. Have to conclude with the first half of the first inning still in four. That was a tense moment with two men on, two out and Mitch Collins at fat man who slapped out 35 homers this year. Here's the way that inning worked. Martin came up, knifed the first hit, down the third. He was out of the fast roll from Owen over to Greenberg. Reached the first backer just about 5ft before the runner got there. Then Rothrock. Rothrock came up, slapped the second pitch on a high fly. Sailing way out into center field with a hard driven ball. But Jojo White was there when it came down and two men were out. Frankie Bridge came up, Frankie Bridge drove one, fired to the left of Maya Bowen. Down on 30. Came out, got his hands on the ball and Fritz went on down to first with faith on Owens. Errors. And Bruce Goslin Grande on into third base. Collins came up without an square. But here is the Tigers at the first and Tom Manning to give it to you. All right, Tom. Jojo White, left hand, head of shutter seat of the Tigers in his white uniform with the blue letters. He's up there. The first pitch from Dizzy G. Strike one. Tall up burning fastball so high. Right down the old alley for call. Sykes. Dizzy G. Is out there wearing a kickstart. Just as confidence as he has been in his 30 victories. In the taxi the lined up a long lean lineup and here it is. A hook foul is low inside. Ball one and strike on. It's the last half of the first inning. This old World Series ball game at table field plate. We're receiving the description through the National Broadcasting Company. Ball one and strike one on the pitch. Ball two, A fat ball. This is the outside corner of the tape and the count on the left hand hit a. Jojo White is call two and strike one. He is a lead off fan of the Tigers. The lanky, the catcher. And here's the pitch. Tiger hitter. All three and strike one. Four. That 15 certainly has 20 arm ramp balls. There it is. Hit the strike. Strike down the middle and the call on Jojo White is ball three and strikers Swinging those big arms. Those are come down almost loosely. There's the wind up. The count is three and two here. It is. Comparatively an easy set. The Welsher, taking a ball among so high, had a nice goal. Playing over shoulder high to Collins and the Tigers. That one ran out in the first inning with his right hand as he steps to the plate. Manager Mike Captain in his first year as manager of the American League. Back to left hand. And here's the first six to Mike. Call 1. A fat ball is low and just a little bit inside the last half of the first inning. Coach calling you. One man out. Nobody on. Suckling up. And it's Dizzy Dean. Right hand was picking. Gillian catching. Here it comes. It's a ball. The back call is outside. That was close. And the call on Mickey Cochran is through. A loving guy. Perkins is coaching at first. Baker at third. One out, nobody on. Ball to the pitch. Quite falls. That was a nice back. Cocklin over the plate. Fell high. And now the Cardiron manager Cochran. Alvin Bird switched to Collins. That was a hard ground ball. Manager switch. He stumbles over Terry, but came up with the ball, passed it over to Collins and Cochran is out. Now we have two in, out and nobody on. Charlie, one of the greatest second baseball of all time. Gets a great hand as he steps to the plate. He had played marvelous ball here for the Tigers and he gets a great hand. He steps up to the batter's box. He's also a left hand hitter. Charlie had a great battle on this year, you know, for the batting leadership of the American League. The first pick. It's a spike called Charlie Carringer. Elected to look up. First run over. Dizzy Dean is in the box to go. General Charlie. 40 choices. Last half of the first inning. Two out, nobody on. Close call as yet. Here's the lineup. Strike one of the hitters after the third ball and hits the outside corner. And Dizzy Gene takes his head just a little bit. And now it is four one and strike one. Two men out. Last half of the first inning and nobody on. Here's the wind up one and one. The Fish. It was sweeping hook ball in his low inside. Der steps back. Ball two and strike one. Garringer pulls quite a bit away from the plate on that last pitch. Sort of a change of tight offering. Now his ball two and right one. The wind up. The pitch. He swings It's a basic a base left field ball out there is received by Joey Medway. He hooks it into wheels and rose. Direct second and Charlie Carringer. They call first base. A ringing single to left field. That is the first Tiger hit of the World Series. Hank Greenberg is coming up. Hank Greenberg is a big Tiger first tackle, a right hand hitter. Frankie Swiss aggressive cricket with second and his Grant in back with 50 D. Now he's going back again. The last half of the first inning. Two men pep on retire Charlie Charinger on first and Hank Greenberg at back. The outspeeders are moving back ready for the fifth. And here it is. It's a long ball down Thursday. Pepper Martin comes up with a defer. He is out at first. That was a beautiful play by Pepper Martin. She went out of his left reaching the ball. Heads to it over there. Shuts off the ground to rip Collins at first base. And that is all for the Tigers in the first inning. No runs, one hit, natural errors. Derringer, what's left on the base, Come in for right. Came up to start off the tragic part of this ball. Came here in the first inning. White Fang won, a hot one down. Julio De Rocher who took it back, got it over to Rip Collins on first and one man was gone for the Tigers in the first inning s. Then came up Mickey Pain. Satan banged one down to Bris. Bris stumbled, went down hard after the ball but came up with it and wang it over to Collins and two men were out. Two out, nobody on. Geringer came up, Garringer got a hold of leather and lifted it out on a drive into left field. Single over the short drop head and he was down on first. There he was on first with big Hank Greenberg. Hank Greenberg, a mighty man with a back up there to face Dizzy Bean. He drove one down to Martin, Martin took it prettily, climbed it over to Collins and they were down. Four man ups and three outs for the Passion. The first inning, no run, one hit, no errors and two big zeros hanging out there on the scoreboard in right field. A zero for St. Louis and one for Detroit at the end of the first inning going into the second. Now here is Delancy coming up the back.

Is out there in the box to wind up the first six of the Lance the left man here. He hits the first. Marshall hit the long post to left field. Carson is back near the barrier. He has it. That was a long drive. About 5ft from the barrier in chief left field 2. Carson backing up, taking the ball and then put them over the tow right and center. Strike. The local to Owens to Challenger to Greenberg. And now General Str again has the ball with his club off toing the ball in his bare hand. He gets a bit of rosin and we're ready to go again. Ernie Orchardi, the center fielder in the St. Louis tried over the National League as well. Here's the first ball. Hits a hit in the left field. He was the left hand batter and he scratched the first ball, picked a line drive and the left field. The ball is exceed by KU Charsma. He returns it to Rotel at second. It's a single Ernie for Saddy. That's the second hit of the afternoon for the Cardinals. That brings Rio Derosa up. Rio de Rosi in old back dome late. Here's a little short stop calls the St. Louis cardinal. Carter is pitching and Cochlin catching. Here's the first pitch. It's a spike falls. Get a foot back on in there. Let her high, let her high till Monday. Say here's the next six for Leo Deloaker. Ball one. That was a hook ball. That was a little bit outside and the count on Deloher is ball one and Cyclone in the second inning. One man out as a peg over the first. Nothing happens. Trotter has the ball again in the box batting 4. One strikes on the pitch. He swings at the plate high out of the center field. Jojo White Backing up a bit under it. He's waiting and he has it. Two men out in the first half of the second inning. The cars are drowning and we still have Horse Batty on first base. Now, Jamal. Oh, Jizzy Dean is coming up in the hotel lobby this morning. Will Rogers, he needs no introduction. Then how's the old odds? Is he declare it's okay, says the white don't want me to pitch. But Tom Kong, when there's a ball game and then he's pitching to be done on the pitcher. And there he is, he's in there pitching. And here's the first pitch of Jizzy. He swings at the foul back right one. And when you have Little Rock, how he was getting along, particularly over Rusher. He said, well, Jesse, they had me play on the outfield. He said, I didn't do any pitches. But they had a great time together. Had two great fellows, Will Rogers and Dizzy Dean. All right, it's the last half of the second inning, you know, two men out, Horse Johnny on first and the comp on Dizzy JR Strike one. Here's the pick between. Just a bounding ball down there second. O' Garrell Pak crosses to Carringer and Garringer drops the ball and everybody is safe. That was a ground ball as toy Roel Foster easy went over to Carringer and Carringer dropped the ball. And now we have runners on first and second. We've been delayed a moment while Dizzy Dean is putting on that right marvel flutter. The pike was all right and Charlie Carringer, the second basin of the tiger, discharged with Pam Heller. Now we have Orzadi on second, Dean on first, two men out and Pepper Martin. Pepper Martin, the star of the series of 31. Boy, will you ever forget what he did in that two goal? Basically hit home runs, climbed up on the fence. Rounds rise and here he is again, Emma Martin slowly getting in the box. He was in there, but Kyler Tyler was ready to put down. He jumps out of the box quickly and all ready to go again. Upper Martin was up the first kick. Oh, back right C.L. martin was that back go from way back that time. No scorers yet the first half of the second inning. Elatt is on second, Dizzy Dean is on first and Pupper Marshall is up with two out strikes on General Father away from hand of Sydney Cotton catching. Here it comes. Hit the foul back cover mark. Lets the back slip out of his hands and it flies through over to the oxygen back of home plate. Now we have strike two on Summer Martin. We have runners on first and Second to no. Most scorers yet in this first World Series. All the Marco back in the box again now right to the south. Here it is. It's a bounding ball down surface. A big hat has it. Here's the throw. And the toe was tied and everybody is safe. The bags are over. Carmel took that ball, he backed up on it, then threw it wide to Hank Greenberg. Pulling Greenberg off the bag. And now we have, as it were and two men out. That is a pair for third base from Orange. That is the third error of the afternoon for the Kaisers. And here's a picture that you see it now. Frankie stopped the left hand, as you know, with a right hand. Cut you in the box. The pitch. It's a foul. Strike one. That was certainly a sack by Zach Rothrock. A line drive at a left center field. For a moment it looked like excavation, but Jojo White was over there, took the ball on the second hop and whipped it in there to Roguel. Holding North Rock in front. Here's the picture. It's a long File Upstairs bike two of Frankie Clifford. First half of the second inning in O St. Louis 502 Detroit Tigers shoving Frankie Crates the Manager of the Cardinals was stepped out of the manage box for a moment. Knocks the dumps off his shoes. And now he's back in there again with runners on first and third. Two men out, first half of the second inning. Crowder takes it second and holds the pitch. It's too high outside par one with the counts crew. And having Charter elected to try to get basically at a high pass on outside. And now we have strike two. Paul Runson Christian who is batting left hand of this afternoon against the right hand flash of Fowler. Runners on first and third, two out. He swings with the ground ball. Carringer fumbles the ball, retreats it quickly crosses the Greenberg, transfixes out at first base. And it's a right play by Charlie Gallinger. A ground ball between Carringer and Greenberg. There was a coming over fire to his left, knocked the ball down home of the Coma Fairy. Turned all the way around and it talked to Scheinberg getting first. Catford in for ready happened that inning. Delansy came up, banged the fly out two left field. Go right up against the wire and took it. Wide goal to first base. Rockrock came up lamp one out. He's the center field scoring. Our saddle indeed. Martin went to third, Rock Rock was on first. Frank was the next man in the batting order. He wrapped one down to Garringer. Garringer had a hard time handling. It was a bad ball to handle. But he got a hold of it, picked up off the ground, got it over to Greenberg and the Fabs retired. Two runs, two hits, two errors. Here is Bruce Gon at bat in Detroit path of the second and Tom Manning the first pitch to go. A change of pace offering his high outside. Who's causing it all. Take a left hand hitter. Ball run. Dizzy Dean is in the box. 4. The St. Louis Cardinals with Delancey behind the back. Now for the first step of the last half of the second. Here's the pitch. It's a strike. A Nice hook throw. It comes over just above the knees. And the count on ball one and strike one. Roslyn is up. Rogel hanging around hole plates. The fifth hit the ball. Ball inside and the count on Goslin. Ball two and strike one. Gosling pulling away from that one. Zizzy Dean had plenty on it too. Mrs. Busy. Dean said that Jerome would not pitch this afternoon. But apparently Jerome won out. It's a high foul. Almost up in the third check behind home plate. And now the count on Gosling is 2 and 2000. Leading off for the Tiger in the last half of the second. And Tony Rose will hit next. 2 and 2. Dizzy is taking a little more time at the moment. Now he's ready to go. There's a long wind up and here it is. It can face him into left field. Bedwick retrieves the ball, tosses it in there to the other. The WOs second and it's a one base shot for Coach Gosling. Joslin took a hold of a high Fastman inside and drove it to left field. It's a hard hit ball and Joey Ludwick handled the ball very neatly out there in left field. Big turning into Delosier at holding, Darzel at first. That's the second hit of the afternoon for the Tigers. Billy Rogel is up. You know he's a quick hitter. He passes either left or right hander. That's Billy Logel. He's hitting left handed this afternoon. Billy Lo' go is up there. And the count is strike one. Hanville Lokel. As the long lead wide up again, up to 15. The pitch. Spike swinging site two. That ball is up around the peak of the cap, right. Those Highlands. And he took a murderous out of 10 licks. Right tomoquel. Last half of the second inning. St. Louis Cardinals 2 tigers. Nothing. Nobody outdone his arm first. Here's the pitch. Hit the ball outside. Apparently that was a pickup with a cuff spikes two. The landing on the outside of that plate. And now the count on Billy will go. Ball two, plate two and ball one. Ball hanging around home plate. There's the stretch. The pitch. Hit the ball outside. Count on Billy V who is batting left handed. Has ball two and take two. The last half of the second inning, the first game of the World Series. So Maven feeling quite through the Nationals walk past. Two and two is the count. Take three. The throw. The second a double play. Goin is out and Frankie Fish was heard on the play. Fizzy G. Everybody is running out for second base on that play. You know Bruce Goin. Bruce Goin was on first base. Gon was off with the pitch. It was a call. Strike down Billy Ro and Galante hooked the ball to Click. Click took the ball sitting on second base. Go in hard, 10 bucks Frankie breaks down. And now all the Cardinal players at Rusher bench, they're backed out there at second base. The trainer is out there and they are all bending over. Frankie Fish, he got up and walked about 15 yards away from the second base coaching and then again sat down on the ground. And as we observed him coming over towards first base, he was rubbing his left shoulder. We all sincerely hope that Bear had. What happens to Frankie Fish? Oh, Dizzy Dean is out there. Busy D is patting him on the back and saying something as funny as probably saying, Come on old kid, you can say you better be judged. 2000 women at that time, honest. Actually we are sure. But his knee was a little high. Frank Frankie FR was rather low to take that throw. And Luke Gosling a knee popped into the shoulder and connect Frankie Fritz. And now as the players are going back to their position, Frankie Fritz is up and he certainly can take it. He's a great money player and a change for the ship ever wants it. That's the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. He's up there now waving his players to the back step position and is rubbing the right side of his back near the shoulders. AO took a double play. Golem was out of second hotel was called out on sight. Two men out, last half of the second 12 on the arm. And Bob Owens, the great surprise player of the American League. The third basement of the Tigers. They said he wasn't good enough for the American League at the swing training base. But he certainly has been a great third baseman for the Tiger. Take one foul, a foul on that particular play. Oh, inside. He ducked away from a fast ball. Inside the ball accidentally hit his back two into the lower deck of the stands. Travis Morrison is. Strike two. That was a burning fast ball with Owen side to duck the latex. Two minutes. Nobody on. Strike two on Owen. A right hand batter little too long and shooting that ball straightward. And Owen steps out of the box. He's in again. Rewind the flight. Strike two to six. Strike three. He swings and misses. And that is all for Detroit Tigers in the last half of the second inning. At the end of two innings there is St. Louis Cardinals representing the National League. Two Detroit Tigers of the American League coming forward. Three up and three down. Then Goslin came up the Goose Godlin. The left field of the Tigers drove The ball into left field. A pretty single. A clean ringing single. He was down on first. Rogel came up, Rogel came up. One on, nobody out now. Went up to three and two on him. Goslin trying to take a terrific lead off first. Dizzy Dean tried for him once, then dirty defensive to the batter. On the next pitch, Gow stuck up and Gosselin was off like a flash for second. Delance deflected down the fridge. Dalzel went in hard and as you heard, Frigg was hurt. But there were two out, a psychop and a man out of second trying to get down there on that third strike. Then Owen came to bat. Owen came up and the first with a call site the second.

He took it, wound up, rammed it over the plate and he swung hard. Collecting a lot of air on the enemy's back for the third out. No runs, one hit, no error. And here are the cards up with Joey Medwick. Ducky Medwick at bat in the first half of the third inning and Tom Manning to give it to you with solder taking its place in the buck. All right Tom. That's right. Medwick, you know, is the boy who got the first hit in this blue ribbon event of 1934. His first time up, a beautiful face hit and now he is coming up for the second time. Here's the tinkerless Congo. First base for the left hand batter who has 35 home runs for the season. The pitch. It's a ball. The hook ball is high inside. It's the first half of the third inning. Long columns. The left hand side of the pit. He swings at the crowded outpost. Greenberg takes it, goes to Rotel. A second out in the third and it's a wild goal back from Workel. And Collins goes to second base. And that play. Medwick was on first. Collins did a fireball to Greenberg. Greenberg whipped the ball to Rochelle, forcing Redwick at second. Pulling Rochel then and trying to complete the COVID play. Through past Greenberg and Collins went to second base. That of course will be scored as an error for Billy Rochel. The short stop. And now we have Collins on second base. One man out hand catcher. He lancing the left hand. Battle is up. That was a made to order double play. Greensburg coming up nicely with that ball head going into local. That is the fourth error of the afternoon for the Tigers. Collins is out on second base in a scoring position. Galanty, the cat who back the left hander is up in the first six. It's a ball. Ball just a little bit high on the inside. Ball one contacted Delan. There's a clutch run around second to go. One out. He's standing out there fairheaded. Bob Owens, the third baseman has walked over to the pitchers box at Finberg as well as the leftover for the conference group. Manager Mike Cochran is standing around there now. But General Stowder has walked out just a few paces behind the pitching rubber. Manager Mitchie Cochran has been called whiteward by Brick Owens. Rick Owens has raised his claps now telling the Bowens to hustle up a little bit. McLaulin walks out again for the pitcher's box and he says something to third base for Marv Owens. And the first base from Hank Greenberg. Now Cochran is going back behind the plate. Rio Deloche, very gentleman. He has picked up Cochran's kaplan chest protection. Kaplan laughs rather than has handed it to him. Coughlin puts them on and now we're ready to go again. Carter stays in the box. Orio Scotty is up. He hits the first ball sitting the foul down the left field line. Runners out there on the field box makes an attempt to get the ball but Kaza runs over and receives the ball and throws it back into the diamond. Mario Scotty is up to go and it is a foul. Strike one. St. Louis Cardinals three. He's quite coming first half of the four innings. Here's the pick has its back out towards right field and it is out. Greenberg at the ball. Pickle through his leg and he was safe at first. Collins went on in scoring, driving into the home plate ahead of the goal. Getting in there and was all safe or Sany. Then came up man to fly out into right field where Pete Fox was under. When it came down and two men were gone. Jer then came up one on two, a left, one out the same direction and feet. Fox has the third foot out. So the score is three to nothing. Two runs for the Cardinals in the second inning, one run in the third, three to nothing and Detroit coming up with Pete Fox. Irvin Featbach. The right field will meet those last two out for the Tigers coming up first here in their half of the third. There's the wind up and the sixth. The high fly ball. Back of first base. Collins is back, just right on the line. He takes it. One man out. Beatbox with a count. Ball one and strike one. Lifted a little pop fly at back of first base. That's Chris Collins backed up for General Fowler. Is getting a nice hand from the fans here at Pavonfield as he stepped up to the plate. General Fowler, you know, back to him left handed. Here's the Tiger pitcher, left hand batter. Last half of the third inning. Run out. Man, Nobody on Dizzy Dean's first offering. It's a call. Strike A fastball that was right down the old alley. Sprinkles compiling behind the bat race. That right hand indicating a tall strike call. Fast call is going to be side. Crowder stepping back away from the plate. Jojo White hanging around home plate. The victim, the high founder, a top. Dean has it, crosses to Collins and Crowder is out. Crowder swung hard at that ball but stopped it. And it was a high Fowler, about 15ft high. The dizzy Dean waited for and then crossed over to Collins. Now we have two men out, nobody out. And Jojo White center field of the Tigers coming up last time up, Dice found about the roacher t'. Challa. Here's the first pitch to White. All one fastball was inside. First half of that fourth inning, the first game of the Blue Ribbon Classic of 24 at Haven Field, Detroit. Through the National Broadcasting Summit. Jimmy Dean, a right hand hitter is up, gets the first ball, picks the ball to down third. They play it at fouls. Marlon is off for the crack of that bat and retrieves the ball, puts it into Cochran Cochran. Greenberg to Carter as Indy Jean drops slowly back to the battered box, picks up the bat and again he is taking it long sweeping cross swing as he prepares to be ready for the next six lineup. And here it is. Hit the ball. The third ball is low outside. JP steps back and now the small one. And strike one. First half of the fourth inning. St. Louis Cardinals 3, Detroit Tigers 1. Here's the net, 21 on 2. It's a long drive to left field in the left field corner. Goswell going back on the line. And he has it. A nice back by D. Cosman way over the extreme left field corner. Right on the line. Only Dizzy Jean smacked Zeppelin right arm below. He was almost in second base. Dizzy Tough Chapman was out of the punch, but he just filed for the fans. Shifts his hat and walks back slowly. One man up in the first half of the fourth inning. Now we have the top of the Cardinal batting order coming up again. Pepper Martin first time up. Tupperware now third to first. Next time up. He reached first car Mar Volen. And now he is coming up for the third time. A ball slow inside. Pepper Martino into right hand, battered two chips into place. Strike. Nice curve ball over the heart of the plate. And the count on top of Martin is ball one and strike one. Jack Rothrock, the right fielder, hanging around home plate. The six. It's a ball. Fast ball was blown outside. Now the car is called through in spite. One on top of Martin. Third tracker on the painter with caught close half of the fourth inning. One out, nobody out. Here it is. Covermark against the bunch. The ball hit home plate, fouled it up and hit cover Martin in the rib. But the umpires called it. Only they foul and it's strike two. Ball two and spike two that time. Pepper Martin attempted to cross five on up by dumping the front down the third baseline. His back was just a little bit over the foul and it hits the rubber and fouls right up at the header. 2 and 2 the 6. Ball 3. Curveball is low outside. Cochran digging it out of the dirt and the count on top of Martin. Ball three and strike two. First half of the fourth inning, the Cardinals three, the Tigers once one guard in O and nobody out. There's the wind up. Three and two it is. That was nice work on the part of Mike Cochrane. A tip foul and Cochrane was able to hold Nelson. Strikeout for Martin. Two out and nobody on. Zach Rock is coming up. That's the first strikeout for Crowder. Brock Rock is up. Strike called Brothrock pulled away from the play down that one, but apparently the ball was over the inside corner. Here's the wind up again. Two out, nobody on. You know, change of face off and he has a foul up and track right two. First half of the fourth inning, you know, two men out and nobody out. First game of the world series of 1934. Here's the pitch. Another change of face offing. Seems like it took a full minute to get up there. But too high. And the count on off rocket strikes two and par one. Here it is, very high infield fly near third base with Owen Rogel deciding. Owen, there's under it and Orange. Take it behind the Cardinals in the first half of the fourth inning. At the end of the fourth for the Cards, the score is three to one. Dean came up first. And Dean laid into that ball swinging hard. And the ball rolled way high, far and wide with Joslin gazing over. It looked him tackles to get over that. He went over on the line and made a wonderful tackle. Martin brought that entire 17,000 people out there in that left field sicker section up to their feet praising that wonderful chapter 2000 made of Keane's long drive in the left field. Martin. Martin then came to pass, went down on a strike out the third with a chip foul. It went into Satson 12 and two men were gone. Nobody on. And Jack Rothrock, who bats and throws right, is up there. Tackle. He came up in the Boston Red Cross and later to the regular. Broke his leg and apparently it was through, but came back strong and was purchased by the Cardinals from Columbus during the winter. Played 125 games and hit 350 with Columbus. Got away to a great start. Won his first rock drop, went out on the fly. And here we are with Bruce Gosling. Back to the Tigers in the last half of the fourth. All right, Tom. Man. A strike. It's a strike. Oh, Gosling over the left hand, bottom, Jiffy beans, right hand. Pitchers in the box for the Carson. Here's the lineup again. Goslin back from left hander, was high outside. Stand a count. Harmagoose's well run and strike one. He told me this morning. All the Folkstown New Jersey are all streamed in this afternoon. All have their fingers crossed for the success of their native son. Two Charsley. So fastball is inside. Joselyn sets back, raising both arms into the air. And it is ball two and strike one. Graham maximally sitting here just marveling at this Jizzy Bean. That's the first time I've seen him. Graham, no Zong. Next hit. It's a call. Strike. And the count is two and two. Two sides of them. That's fan hitter, you know. Last time up the deuce, singles hit the foul up and back. The count on Gazelle. Remain. Ball two and strike two. Good old scramble over there for that one. And somebody got that ball. There'll be no more rules series for that little apple. Probably have a long comfortable winner in. Somebody crusted W2 and 2 here it is Gozzle hitting hit? The ball's too high. Basil was all set to take a whale at that one, but it was a little bit too high. Around the counter. 3 and 2. Ball 3 and strike through the last half of the fourth inning. St. Louis of the National League 3, the Tigers of the American League. Watch Deane winds up and the ground ball right caught to Frankie Fish. Fish to Collins. Dazzle is out. One down. Third hop 12 high and tossed it over very gently through Rip Collins at first. Now we have one man out and Chilly will go stop at the Tigers. Left hand hitter is up. He just looked at her back from left or right hander all one. After cuz he had that ball go. Oh golly. Developing gentlemen. Elliot oh. Short left turn of field. Joey L coming in the gentleman and Hazard L came in from left field. Head of short, left center and footsteps five fly offilli will go. Two men out. Nobody on the last half of the fourth inning.

Came in fast after that, colors and tricks were back to up. Finally took the ball. For the Tigers of the fourth inner. The goose came up there and the Goose was batting JT and so was 15 fetching to him the same way. The count land up to three and two and he banged one down to Frankie Brace who took it, made a nice toss over to Collins and the goose retired to the dugout. One out in the fourth for the Tigers. It's 4, 3, 1 against them. Rogel came up to bat neck. Rogel the short stop for the Tigers. He banged the fly into short left center. Medwick came in very fast. And the ducky boy was under it for the odd mix of pretty cat coming in fast and hard from his position. Two men gone and Marvor, the third tracker for the Tigers was it back. He's overfly into short right and Frankie Bridge went up, stopped very fast position. Ross Lock was coming in as good for a moment if they were going to stumble. Fresh jet Cruz, he tapped on that. He went out after it and was under it for the third half. Retiring the side. 1, 2, 3. Goslin, Rogel and Owen. No runs, no hits, no errors. And we go into the fifth inning with the St. Louis Cardinals leading over the Detroit Tigers. 3, 2, 1. Brown Manning come in here. Here is the Cardinals up and back with Frank. Frankie Fraid's the first man up there. Here you are, Don. Frankie Friggs the left hand side. Crowder and Cochrane form the Tiger battery. A strike call. That was a nice fast ball over the inside corner on Frankie. Frank swings. It's a long flag to right field. Fox is going back through the barrier and he is running at hazard. That ball was just about three feet from deep barrier and deep right field. One man out. Now we have Joey Medlick coming up. Medwick Gideau is also a long good consider. Joe has some tape around his right wrist this afternoon. First pick to Medlick. A fall up and back strike. Joey Medlick has two hits on a suitcase to the plate. You are two. First half of the fifth inning, three to one in favor of the Cardinals. The pitch hit the ball. First ball is high inside and the count on Joey Medlick. It's called one in strike one. First half of the fifth inning, one out and nobody out. Long tie. Deepen away center field. Back. Back. Going high into the features out in left field. And it is a home run for Joey Mudrick. The little left field of the St. Louis Cargo. Truce. Carson was off with a crack of the bat. But there seemed to be no doubt in his mind. He ran out for steam barrier in left field. But the ball was over the fence for a home run. And now it is four to one in favor of St. Louis. There it is. All one. That was a smash by Joey Metric. And now we have Collins up. That's the first excavate smash of the series. Strike calls. All one. Strike one. Alexano is also a home run hitter having hit 35 this year. Hook ball is outside and it's all two in. Strike one. General Salviano is in the box for Detroit. Oh two and Mike. One. Collins is up. One out and nobody on. Here it is. Strike. Swinging. What a strummy of the devil. Cleared it all the way around. Another count is ball two and flight two. The catcher Delancey hanging around home plate. It's a foul back. The count remains two and two. First half of the fifth inning, St. Louis Cardinals of the National League four tigers of the American League one. Snyder in the box for the Tigers. Cochlins behind the back. Powers that two and two. The pitch, change of space, ball is outside and the count is three and two on column. Three and two, one out and nobody out. Here it is. Foul. Foul. He left. That was a fast ball inside and it was plenty high. Mike Cochran has just pointed over toward the fighter. Dug out, now back. Want some of the guard to warm up? No one has come out of there as yet. We have Galancy the catcher coming up. Galanci is the left hand batter. Had a curve all over the heart of the plate that time. Now we have Collins on first. You know, one man out. The catcher is up as a highest fly out to center field. Jojo White coming in a few paces out of it. And he has it. Two men out is on first. Ernie or Saddy coming up the center field of the Cargo to the left hand battle ready to go. You know, two men out, challenges on and the fit hits a call. Strike. General Crowder sent Apple over the inside corner about now. First he's had since the game started. Hit the ball last ball was too high and the count all one break line. Bernie or Scotty is up there, left hand side. Two men out. First half of the fifth inning. Final four Tigers one destruction. That is the king. And it's a face into left field. Collins was off with a crack of that bat, but 2000 he feeds the ball, whips it into Billy Roquel and Carlos is held at second base. That's the second hit of the hour afternoon for Ernie Horsati. N to center. And now he is singled again. Two hits out of three times up. That brings Rio Delosa up. Cardinal shortstop, a right hand runner, but up twice before, most times sending fly balls to White and center field. There's the pitch. Was inside. First half of the fifth inning, two out, runners on first and second. Collins on second or starting on first. The road is up. The pitch, the high fly out towards center field. Jojo White moving over into left center is under it. And he has it. That is all for the Cardinals in the first half of the fifth inning and here is what happens. Frankie Fury but first up he had a fireball. Spox is up here. Joey Mudley got a hole of a fast one and pocket about 10 rows up into the left field leeches. A fine souvenir for somebody. Collins with a count three and two DE walked Galen fly it out to white and center field. Ernie Oscotti got his second hit of the afternoon, a single. Gallup Poll held at second base. The roaches and hit a fly ball to center field retiring aside one run, two hits, one base on ball and go error. It's always one of the last pass in the fifth inning. St. Louis Cardinals four Detroit Tigers won. Radio friends, this first game of the World Series is being sent to you from the front spot. Scott, Dave and field, we're up in the third balcony and this is Tom Manning speaking. We've had the pleasure of describing the play by play of the first four and a half innings and it is a real pleasure now too.

Of this ball game. With pleasure. For Magic Brown, Bill Dean's been warming up Delancy down here. Now here's Pete Fox. The right fielder of the Tragger is in there swinging his baddies whamming. After the fix, it's Justin. He swings hard and it's one strike on the batter, one strike on Beatbox. Right here in the last Half of this inning. It's going 4 to 1 against the Tigers. Pete Fox is up there. He's winding up. He shoots it in and he drives one high up, fly out into short right. Brink switch and Collins, who pulls back. And he goes out. Collins takes it just outside the foul line and there's one gone. Faith and Collins and Ross Rock were all coming after that ball. They were sure that one of them was going to get it. And Collins got the white top line out there many yards behind first base for the out. And there's one out. And General Alvin Crowder, the next man, drew up the plate. He's made no appearance down there for the moment. Delancey and Brickhorns are both looking over towards the Tigers dugout to see where Mr. Crowder is. There's one gone. There's one gone here in the last half of the field. Finally, Carter comes out swinging a couple of bats with his right arm. Now he sees more to his left and swings him over his shoulder a little bit. Nevis Do Jack. Do Jack is coming in to back for General Trotter. That means he'll have a new pitcher. DoJack is taking the place. Crowder, he's an outfielder. I think we can drop in the minor league. He's going to back for Crowder here. He's coming up there now. That was what the weight was for. Dolljack taking his place at the plate now. And Dean with both arms hanging down to his side and looking at the signal. He find a good up, lines up, shoots it in. And it's a ball. Go to the outside to a right handed batter. Goj takes up each trip. He's bat again. Here's the pitch. And it's a tall strike. Rick Owens up his hand and says, It's a strike, Mr. Tolzak. And it's one and one on Frank Tolzak this time. Injured. A fat for crowd. Here's the pitch. He winds up, shoots it in and it's a drive deep out into center field. Our Saddy waiting minutes is. And he has it as long. Rock runs over, gets there just about the same time the ball does or Saddy has it and lose. Two men are gone. Joe Jackson batted or slaughter. Which brings Johnny Joiner, White, Jojo White, center fielder. If it's a strike, tag is at the back. He's out there now knocking the dirt out of the field. Cleats goes over, hits his bat. A big black willow down on the home plate. Looks out toward JV Dean. Swingy's back, flying it out just a bit. JV Dean takes the ball, takes that line up in his. Push it down across the plate. And it wasn't quite across the plate. He was outside to a left handed batter. And it's a ball. Ball one on JoJo White again he sat down on the rubber. Benji's battle. Here's the pitch going inside and it's ball two. Ball two, Joiner White at that his Dean gets the ball back to Mr. DeLancey. Infield is kicking dirt around out here while his Dean looks into the Lancy taking a signal. Something shake his head. Get that ball. Wright winds up and it's strike two. Strike one. Ball two. Ball two and strike one. Ball strike on Joyner White. Jojo White here's the pick. He winds up and it's three. Ball three and one. Joyner White and dizzy crossed in joy. He's a little bit put out about that third ball. Three and one is the count on the batter. And here comes the whole Cardinal infield in the draft. Dueling first. Andrew. Thank you. Chase and the Ogilotra once again. They're batted now by Rip Callin and Devin Lackey here turns around late for Rip Pallon. The other's gone back to places and Rip turns around, stops out to his place. Our first safe share turns you think again. The batter down three and one, two out and six is left wild right outside and wide. Joiner wipes down off first base. Two men out and Gordon Stanley, Mickey Bin, the manager and the captor back left and right. He's out there at the favorite one on throughout the here in the last half of the fifth he score four to one against his team. Mickey captain got towards the plate. He doesn't bother about any les. He looks at what comes in and it's a tall ball, little higher, dead center, front high. And it's a pair on 50,000. Joiner white down on third. That's the picture in last half of 15. Four to one. Favorite car. Here's a pick with wheels overhand. It's a Carl Dyke one and one. It wheels right over the heart of the plate. He comes right down the alley and that you aren't looking for up there and it's a Carl strike one and one. Two men down, join the white arm first. He takes a little lead off. You look at him over his shoulder but push it in. And now it went down the right field but it went wild. That wind seemed to catch it and shoot it over. It's a long strike into the right field. Grandstand it curved him down there, almost out of defense. It was a hard hit ball and Joiner Whitestone backstabbing, charging itself down to his place at first base. And Mickey again stepped into the batter spot. It's 1 and 2, 1 and 2 at the long sight. Mickey steps up there again, he fat, resting on his shoulder, looking hard down at their team, takes a couple of swings. Dean has his shoulder now turned to the plate, glancing Jeff Middleton over Joiner right instead of lead up there. He shoots it down and Mickey swings at it, drives it down where Frank takes it, shoots it over to Callum. And there's a man down on second and there's nobody down there. Now it's three up and they retire. And the Cardinals come in the bat and here's Tom. I can tell you what happened that inning. He popped his first up in the final half of the fifth and he fouled off to Rick Collins. Collins had to go quite a ways back for that one. There's a draft for general style run. First run. He fired deep to Learny or came over nice in the right center here to take that drive. Sergio Wright came up and after getting a shot of three and one, he left. Manager Mike Conklin gave the fans a bit of a thrill and got a hold of one of these boxes and drove it deep into right field. The fans started flat out there until they reached the fire line in the extreme corner. The ball was done. It looks as off football. Marabury will be the next pitcher. That is not official however after now at the end of five innings, here is a summary of what the pitchers have done so fast. Dizzy D has allowed the Tigers one run and the Tigers are finally shipping at the two paces on ball. Father allowed four runs, six hits and issue club base on ball. The only excavation of the afternoon is that long no runs into the left field. Pitchers by Joey Medley. There's no crucial now purple barbaris. You all remember that grand gentleman of faithful barberry for several years during the penalty days of the Washington Tigers of the American League, Tyback Covery came in from deep into the bullpen to save one of his colleagues who are traveling in the picker spot. Once again he has been that goal really goal as they call it here in the first game of the World Series. Purple Marbury, that big husky right hander formerly of Washington now with the Detroit Tigers is to take up the pitch. He's a right hander and the first half of the six inning has four sides barberry in there. Just the at bat, just over an Offering and it's inside of the plate corner. Inside corner to a right handed batter and it's one ball on 15 winch family bats to batted 246 during the season. Marbury winds up, here's the pitch and he swings hard and it's one and one on a swing at the offering of purple Marbury we come in there to relieve his Thomas Crowder. We've taken out four hitter swings it in and he says what is a single out the peak between the center fielder and the left fielder. Oh oh it's good for two things. He went in there, it looks like a single look like the fielder would get older after it. But Dean gets a two face hit and he's down on second, nobody else. And Pepper Martin coming up to the plate to face the new Tiger fix. The umpire has fall time for the moment waving his arms and the trainer on Gaza dugout with the big cardinal colored windbreaker for this team he just got that nice too bad he's all the fire between white and Bruce Jasmine out there in deep left center Looks like they get all of his shoot it in and King traveled on down to second before anything could be done about it. A few minutes and the next man you up is John L. Martin. That's G's name. He's mostly Paul Fre to find out what the man real name is. He came to the chasm to Houston farm in 1928. Farm back for a time but in 31 he came back landed a regular job under regular World Series. You remember the story he's up there at that now. He's counted on second. Nobody out here in the first act of the kinning he flings out the first offering and is won. Christ, he collects a lot of air on the eddy's back there. There's one strike on separate Martin. It scores four to one in favor of St. Louis here in the first half of the six innings City beam down on second, takes a little lead half Marbury turns around, looks down at him 30 seconds the batter and he drives one pot over second base out into Butterfield right retrieves it 15 comes on in to throw him in front right to Madre. He got over 2/2 May 5 to throw in there and now Marbury walked in captain to Mickey Cochrane. Pepper Madness found her on first. His team came in with a run on this single out there. Legacy set it in. Now Marbury taking place back in the back Copycat back on and getting ready to Jeffy's mask and we're looking for Jack Black, left ramp, left ramp. Got to come to bat and on first, nobody out. Run in in the first half of this inning. 44 to 1 and 30 to take. He gets up there now into the batter's box and he punch one down there first the pitcher. Retinger shoots it over to first and he out the man going down on a nice back to ice. Man down on second. Martin sacrifice in his arm was down five. The one on the home run favor the diagnosis. Last camera in the fifth and this side in here in the six is five to one and we have crank straight and manager in. Second baseman at the plate with Pepper Martin down on second. One out kick and the strikes on Mr. Brake. Strike one. He's up there again. Now Marbury has up there. He looks around at Martin on second. A pop up into way out off the foul line in left field. The third basement goes back to and he's under it. Owens making a sweetheart of a catch after he went back fast. Rocky Chap in the process leader came back in and the drop gives him a nice hand for a beautiful catch. Going out fast under that pop up top foul off Frankie break out their way back of third over toward the left field grandstand. Beautiful catch by Marvoy. So now it's two out. Man on second, Pepper Michaels and Joey Medwick.

Joey Medwick, you up at that? Whoever the pleasant number to get up there to the home Plate to any pitcher at any time that dressing as a man on second here's Joey Ducky Medwick at bat Swing that volley back right he swings hard and falls down he swung so hard at that offering of my brother who takes it out nonchalantly Jim goes back, walks around the pitcher's mound rubbing the ball and looking at Pepper Martin down on second that's one in favor of the Cards here in the first half of six inning here's the offering he fouls it back high into the upper tier back of home plate New ball is given by big Owen Ducatin who throws into Marbury and purple watch wiping it off out there getting it in the condition that he likes to picture as a big number 11 written on the back of that pretty white bag of uniform Comes in, walks in, throws the rubber looks around the supper mark non sagingization a big wind up, jus cross a slow ball, nice change of pace it came in but it was wide and it's called ball one one and two is the count on Joe Ducky Medwick and on second base throughout four five to one favor the card Marbury watching Martin Brad turns around, shoots it in but it was low and it's ball too low and wide of the plate to a right handed batter Aubrey gets the ball back down onto his grip Everything hanging there by the trap wipes the ball off, comes in, looks both ways, throws the rubber's right foot looks back at Martin and makes an offering to swing just for the entrance if he would but nothing's happened about it and Martin wasn't alarmed Nobody was coming in there to the second base and he knew all about it he turned his head to the batter, shoots him and it's again it's a high foul Mickey Thompson, not his half buck goes into the bend he planted get it. Another ball comes into the ball game Marbury has it he's having to wipe off a lot of fouls out here to get him into the condition he likes to pitch them and Marbury looks around there at Martin again he's gone back to the second track there standing on it either Bill Rogel nger are paying any attention to it and they're watching. You see what Joe Medwick does down there? He swings, Hart drives the ladder into river right field It's a Cochrane and the runner comes in Kevin Martin crosses the plate on the throw in ahead of the throw in he cleared in it wasn't that he could have got it the ball sailed out to Fox into another run in now 6 to 1 on the single it's Joe Metwick. Joe into right field. A line drive out there which hits short of what anything the Peacock could do about it. And there are two runs in beginning now. Edwin goes down on first, two out, two runs in and James Rip Collins. James Rip Collins was a Cardinal first baseman at bat. Always a dangerous man. Thomas told you a couple of times this afternoon that he has hit 35 homers during this 1934 seasoning. Here's the pitch it wins in and it's a ball. Ball one wired in the plate through a left handed batter outside. Collins up there. Edgwick down on first. He shot down for second Inch he hit nice hit and run. Guys are hard on the ground. Out into right field. Eddie safe on first and Medwick is safe on third. He bled in there. He was way ahead of the. Wasn't that three? But he hit the third anyhow. And there's a man on first and third. Two out and two runs in on the. He was off with the kick. Nice hit and run and they worked it getting hold of that ball and driving down into right. Umpire down on second base. Umpire Geisel throws his arms into the air and there's a time just the moment all these players now with the exception of Hank Greenberg and Charlie Garrett have walked in to talk about to Brett Marbury and he's leaving the mound. He's leaving the mound and we'll have another Detroit pitcher here. No one out on the wall up mound. But here comes a pitcher running in. We can't see who it is. He just came down the Runway. And just see who it is. Walking in with a big windbreaker guy taking off now throwing it down to the fat boy. I'll tell you who it is. Just a moment. Who's going to replace Marbury there in the box here in the six inning with a score six to one against some of his first ball games here at Navenfield of the 1934 World Series. It looks like striker but we can't identify him for the moment our first. Hobsett Elon Hogsett the Indian has come in. Elon. Chester Hodgett the left handed picture has come in to replace Marbury here in the six innings. Replacing Marbury in the thick inning of the four six to one against them. Pick the one favorite, the Cardinals. Rip Collins is on first. Dwayne Medwick on third. Two out. And two runs in here in this inning. Our task is it getting the first. Hodgett goes over and takes hold of Rosin bag quite his hands off on it. Turns around and tosses one over to Greensburg for another set of warm ups. And he turns his attention to the batter, who is William Delancey, catcher of the Cardinals east wing part. Drives it way out by into lefty over Goose's head. It bounds against the fence. It's good for two bases. And he scores the runners. He's now held at second on the throw in. And both Medwick and Rip Collins come in on that. Two baggers up. Tildelantia firecracker over Goose's head. And now it's 8 to 1 in favor of the St. Louis cycles here in the first half. The beginning of the first ball game of the 1934 World Series. Ernie Orsoni falls into the plate. He's up there already taking position in the batter's box. Elon hogs it. Finally gets the ball back. Wipes his hands off on the rising bag. They fold the ball again. Joe Delante down on second throughout the four runs in the inning. Swings. And here's the pitch. And it's a call site right straight over and a 31. But Marty was looking for that shine right here at the moment. And the ball goes back to Mickey. Shotgun to the pitcher. Winds upon his swing. Tie. That is the grounder down for the second. Basic Charlotte Garring. He's out at first. Gearinger with green bird out at first. Here he's with still runs in that inning. And here's tomorrow to tell you a resume of how those four runs happen. All right, Tom. Boy, that was really an inning. Dizzy Dean was first up after he was drowned for missing one by the crowd. He just took it off and then got a hold of one and doubled left field. Pepper Martin, single center. And Dean scored. He almost missed that third base tag over there. Bob Owens an umpire. Reardon had a bit of a conference. And the umpire thought that that size, mind you, or better of busy jeans and just nicked the cushion. Swap Rock face down. A strike. Sacrifice. Marbury to Greenberg. Foul out to Owens. This was the outstanding fielding player of the day. A great running catch almost 40 yards from third base to Bob Owens. The Tiger third sacker went to get him. Joey Maverick then came up and was a count 2 and 2 single to right field. Calling Tupper Marshals. That was Frederick's fourth hit of the afternoon. Three singles in a homer. Does fake Dave work for anybody? Car. Ben gave perfect sacrifice of the Hippar run play. Singles to late field. Medrick went to third. Hogstep replaced Lobberick. A left hander Delante doubled against the failure in deep left field high over Goslin's head. Frederick and Collins scored. That was fine splitting on the part of Collins making it 8 to 1. Orzotti then bounded out Gehringer to Greenberg. So at the end of five and a half innings, St. Louis Cardinals with the national lead eight Detroit Tigers of the Americans one. The last map of the fifth, the

Join me Wednesdays on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. The LastHalf of 6 I'm just to correct you on a number there for the moment. We have Charlie Gehringer up at the plate for the Tigers here in the last half of six. His Dean is looking him over. Here's a pitch and it's a strike. Gehringer down there at the plate hoping do something here. They're chilling. But as they go in the last half of the six, Gearinger, first man up here for the Tigers in this half the inning and the ball sails over and it's strike two. Strike two. Delante waves the signal down to Jersey. Dean walks out, holds up his hand. Think of him, what the umpire called it, confirming it so that Jersey will know exactly where he is in relation to the battle. He winds up, shoots it in and it's a low one and a ball. A ball on the batter, winds up and gets another one in and ball two and strikes to two and two on Mr. Charlie Gehringer there. Jersey Dean wind up, shoots it in. He whams it down to first base, first baseman. And he tossed it over to the pitcher team coming over to Rip Collar. Rip Collar drops the ball down, picks it up and Kahim coming over fast at the toss on him. Guts there, just barely ahead of Charlie Garringer, who was pretty fast on those fins of his. And there's one gone. That's always a beautiful play on the ball. Then when the ball dries down towards the first baseman, the pitcher comes over, crosses the plate, taking the throw from the first baseman who has gotten it from the batter. It's always a pretty one when it's executed right. And it was a typically executed fast then because with a hot drive which he knocked down. Here's Ang with Greenberg up attack. Here's a pitch. The side over second base. Alan's art, It took it in two, second base and he established second. It's forged as a hit and an error. A hit and an error. He came in fast for that ball awfully hard. It bounded up just about a yard in front when he was trying awfully hard to get it hit him in the chat. Found it off the end of Japan it. And Herb Greenberg is down second on a hit and a terror on center field. Ernie Varsatti. Hank Greenberg is on second, one out and Ruth Goslin, Leon Allen, Ruth Goslin, left fielder of the Padres at bat. He bats left back, left handed, but flow's right, you know, here's a fix and he's ping tired. Goes turned down on one knee, turn clear around. If he'd have gotten a hold of that midsection, you would have gone places. He gave it all the heft that he has and believe me, Goose had plenty of half. We were talking to him last night and he was talking about what big things he hopes to do in the series. All of them, how to do that, their hopes. Any swings high. The cannon misses the ball, letting nothing but a lot of air on the enemy back. Free trouble, Bruce. All the boys on these 15 state fellows and anxious and hopeful for what they can all do in the series. And Greenberg on second, one out, strikes two on the batter. Bruce Golen in the batter's box. Dean again takes that lazy stance, takes a wiggle from Delancy, makes the stretch, lands a hand. It's too spin and a little easy one down. It picks between the shortstop and third baseman and hence Greenberg comes in and scores. Neither one ought to get to it and it's a single or 2000. Both of his fat half and Pepper Martin both haven't trying to get to that ball. But it was just him touch scoring and Jingerson attack him in that mission. Score 8 to 2 here in the last half of the pitch in favor of the St. Louis Cardinal. William Rodel. Billy Rodell is it? Fat neck. Where's the big number seven on his back. White Tiger uniform. Cardinals in their yellow uniform. The light gray with the red figures. The Cardinals. There's the pitch to Rogel. Man on first and he drives one hop down to the second basin. Shoots it over to first. The man is out there with no time to make a double on that. Barely have time to get that ball and get a little rip challenge to get the man out that first there. Two dogs with who Svering down second. And they run in two men out. Four, eight, two in favor of the Cardinals. Just time for Chris to get that one over to Collins. Two jets go Rogel out. So we have Marvin Oren. Marvin Oren, who this year is at.321. He's given an 88 run. He's been doing a lot of good batting during the season. He's up there at the place now. He's upright also. You tell the handlebar runners a pick. Then it's a pair on Mr. Marvin Janes Owen. The third factor of the tagging. And on second, two out. Ball one on the batter. Here's as a signal. He winds up as a threat in the pitch. And it comes over and it's a tall sight. Umpire Brick Owen does that right hand up and out in the gesture of the strike. It's one and one on the batter. I have a norn in the batter's box. Man on second base. Here's Godwin. Here's a pick. He swings hard but gets nothing. Glorious trouble. And it's one and two. Ball one and strike two on the batter. Two out, one run in, takes two favor the Cardinals. This Dean again looks in. He has a very lazy sand. And they got signal and winds up, makes the shut and it's a foul. Back of the plate. Looping the end of the first here. Delancey. Wow. About eight or nine feet in front of the home plate. Boy delivers the ball back to 15. He drives him down second, taking a lead of about 5 yards off the base. Looking around, see if anybody's paying any attention to him. He views that shortstop of second base is coming in after him. Upswing a hard swing. And here's had the batter fool striking up Marvin Owen. And the side is retired. The score 8 to 2 in favor of the Cardinals. The antler big guineas here. If you give your resume at the Tiger half of the six. Tiger half of the six. One run, two hits and no errors. One error rather. One run, two hits, one error. Garringer not Carlos Steam. Greenberg single, he took second on tried to shoot string catch then and he was given an error. Goslin single to left field scoring. Greenberg making it 8 and 2. O' Garrell is off, breaks the column. Goslin went to second, Robin took out Thor at the end of six innings. St. Louis Cardinals 8, Detroit of the American League 2. You know folks, the Ford Motor Company folks at the crowds that are listening in at the showrooms of four dealers throughout the United States and Canada as well as everywhere else are enjoying this game. It is coming to you from Navin field, Detroit. The first game of the Blue Ribbon Classic of 1934. The first two games here at Navin Field, Chevy Choice and the next three at national necessary in St. Louis going into the first half of the stretch inning. And here is Elon Wagit who leaves Marbury who had previously taken Crowder's place after Crowder was pulled out for Hoggett is taking place in the box. And the Cardinals are up with Leo De Rocha the shortstop first man after in the seven getting the start of that he's at taking place in the box. There's a kick and it sails in and assault a foul. It's wide to a right handed batter, wide outside of the plateau. Reaches back out to Elon. He takes it, winds up. There's the pitch and he drives one down to the short stop. Luck leap in the air, pull it down. Rogel backs it over to Greenberg and the man is out that ball to get back down until Rogel gets a nice hand from the fan while leaping in the air clearing that foul. Passes back down. Fan is out at first. Rochel retires to the dugout and here it comes. Jerome takes Jesse Dean up to the plate. Just 23 years old and the amazement of the major league. This man Dean, who won 30 games, lost seven in this past season. He comes up there, takes his place in the box. Elon Hodgson turns his entry. He has his hands behind both hands behind his back down before he has filled in godeking signals and cocktail and he winds up. Here's the pen it his wings hard and goes down on one knee. He put all the hefty had into that one. One sight on the batter swinging.

Join me Wednesdays on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. Winds up, comes down the alley, piles this one off and it goes clear high over the whole stand. And this is a high stand here in Detroit at Maven Fields. Piles it clear up over the fan. Meets back down there again with strike two on him. Pocket rubbing off the ball now after drying off his hands on the rosin bag. Next left hander, you know, South Carol swings the port side, winds up, drags it in and he swings wide at that one and he has struck out to the bean. Two men gone here in the first half of the seven. Dean retires the dugout, which brings John L. Pepper Martin back to the place. Emperor Martin lead off man. First batch of the Cardinals, next man up. So far to Roer and Dean have been up there both out and Martin is the third man up there. Inning two out, nobody on the score. Eight two favor the Cardinals. Here's a quick and it's wide forcing him back on his knees. The batter forcing Martin back on his knees at the ball very wide. This man Hogan stepped out wide, swings ground arm, shoots the ball in and he tried to putt it, but he fouled it off. Get down there around Mickey Coxon's foot and it's one and one on Pepper Martin. Tepper Martin goes off sweatshirt, rubs him down on the dirt. They call the bats off his shoe. Almost like Lefty o' Toole does for the moment step back into the batting box. Here's the pitch. Nails in and he drives it hot down to the toss up Bill will go. Hand it over to Greenberg, retiring aside. One, two, three. Three up and three down for the Cars at the seventh league race. And two. Here's Tom Manning tell you how that happened. Boy, we certainly watched two great plays that time. Billy Vogel, the veteran, touched off of the Packer. Just turned in two brilliant plays on Deloche. The first man up, hit up ground ball down short. The ball hit something and took a nasty bound, looped into the air, turned halfway around, came down and whipped that ball over just ahead of the city. Call it 12 play. Dizzy Dean then very nonchalantly took his exercises. Three strikes. Dizzy doesn't do that very often. And the ST is when he tough. But then he gasped up there and swung and stuck out two balls. Pepper Martin then hit us back down between the short shot position and the second base bag. O' G went over, came up with that ball. A hard smash and Foster beams. No runs, no hits and no errors. Charlie up and out. Those government stretch. Have your stretch either way. Take the stretch between the first half, the last half of the seventh and reality depart. So if you're rooting for the Cardinals, go ahead and stretch. If you're rooting for the Tigers, go ahead and stretch. Last half. The 7:50 team pitching out here at Forest Box is back. Ball comes sailing in. It's a call. Strike. Right dead over the heart of the plate of the battle. Wasn't ready for it and it's a call. Strike on feet. Fox score 8 to 2 in favor of the Cardinals in the last half. The time him. He swings out the next one size, a high one. Delancey's knockoff. He's backwards back there with a ball and long. Jumping dog comes down, plunks into the big lip and there's one gone. Irvin Fox beatbox. The right fielder of the Tigers is off. He retires to dugout. Master Lansing takes that. Take the ball right out of foul. Back of the plate. A very, very high one. Dean walks out to the Fisher's mound again. Delancey gets his mask on as Rusty tries to fit comfortably over the years. Sam here. Here is Elon Fester Hogset, bad fantasy pitcher and he backs left. He's up there to take his place in the batting order. He winds up. Here's the pitch. He tried to punch Eddie, missed the ball and it's strike one. The bat got away from. Rolled halfway up to the pitcher's mound. He tried to punt that one. Lost his hold of the grip on the bat and it's right one right, one on. The batter hogs it. One out. Nobody on back half. The 7, 4, 82 favor. The car ball floats over and it's called bar one. It was outside way wide about a change of pace, but couldn't get it over the plate. One and one on the batter. Somebody on. He swings the next one drives it down to the shortstop. Two or two legs it over to first. A nice fast play ball got there just ahead of Hoggett. And two men are out. Two men are out in Joiner White ahead of the batting order for the Detroit Tigers. The Americans, these captains of 1934, the first team of this 1934 World Series with the Bengal Cardinals. Joiner whites is back four H2 in favor of St. Louis. Two men out. His winds up. Here's the pick. And it's ball very low over the place. It's ball one. He grabs the plate. That that big black batter is again in the throw of the census. Come trailing down. And if it falls right, one and one. Brett Bowen calls it down there at home plate. Umpiring at home today. Bill clamps down on first, dazzle on second geard in the third. Here's a pitch. He winds up, shoots it in. And it's ball two. Two and one on the batter. Dean hitches up his clouds on the right side. Can take that lazy stance with his foot on the rubber. As soon as the last people a signal now. You had the demon start that wind up. The half wind shoots it in and the batter swing guard it bounds away from the gotcher. It strikes through two and two. Lanti keeps the ball hard back to beam there, punch in the net. And again he assumes that stance on the mound. Right foot forward, both arms hanging lazily. White steps out of the box for the moment. Steps back into place, counts two and two on him. Two at. Gets back up there now to face the pitcher. The wind up and the pick. And he fouls it high up over the fence, back of home. Blake ball sailing high over there to get the new ball from umpire Brick Owen. Shoots it back in to Dean Brace. Is out here calling encouragement to his men. Bring a lot of pepper into this infield. Lillian Bately here at the pitch. It comes in and there's a foul strike. He floated one over there. Boolean Joiner White. And it's strike out. A foul strike on Mr. White and the side of the tide. The score is 82 in favor of the Cardinal. All right, Tom Manning come in the Tiger. Half of that's done with an increased box with first up and he called out to Delancey. That was a very high foul. Delancer went back, waited for it and took it for the close up picture of offset. Then out to Roche Hollows. This is a fast player by Leon Derosa. The title struck up and JoJo White up there with two strikes and 50. Dean very nonchalantly hugged in a change of face offering and figures of pineapple and White let it go by for a call. Strike and a third out. At the end of summer we find the national leaguers, the St. Louis Tribals 8 and the American Leaguers who clutch Tigers too. Now as he tries to get again the Tigers have that old black ball out crossing it around. Looks like a piece of coal. They tell me they've used that ball warming up before. He's getting a southpaw picture is in there for the Tigers and manager Mike Cocklin. In spite of the fact the score is 82, Cocklin is still in there encouraging his men and still fighting for this first World Series ball game. First half of the evening head and four. Here's Jack Glaslock taking toast and batters bossy one lined up. Here's the pitch comes over into call. Strike. Strike one on Jack Walkrock, the right fielder of the St. Louis Cardinals. Here right starting off the eighth inning leading eight to two. Here's the pitch comes in and he half when it gets off the bat and it's strike two. A foul tip going high over the that goes back into the sand. He just half one of Evan has got the Kipley bat. New ball goes back to the pitcher. Elon has it boy. Left hander shoots over the plate, hands a ball. It was high one and two. Ball one and strike two. Looks around the infield and turns. Winds up and he drives one a little easy. Went over the second base. He had his rolls out there. The right field receiver shoots again. It's a single for Dak Rothrock. Went over, threw the ball just a looper right out there. Oh, where nobody could get to it. Nice single for Jack Wildcat. Frankie Price comes up next taking the ball from him. Asks the ball to come in. Carrying the ball back in, looking at it. Comes and looks around at Charlie Gehringer and finally turns his hands to Frankie Fish who was taking place in the batter's box. Throws the ball over to Hank Greenberg. There was no chance of getting the runner there, but he talks over for a moment. That robot takes a leading up the bunch. The pitcher comes in fast. Retreaters have no time getting the Second, toss it down. And Greenberg, instead of going back to touch the plate, catches the runner on the line coming into first. Zach Rothrock down on second on the sacrifice. One out. Jack Rothrock on second. And here is Joe Medwick. Joe Medwick, a very dependable batter. Up to face Elon Larsen with a man on second. The score break it through. Taking his place back there. Now with his left foot on the rubber. He looks around at Zach Rothrock to take the lead off second. Makes a far long set into the air, Shoots it down. And it's a high fly out into center field. And JoJo White goes back, is under it and has it. The runner starts down the third. He makes a hard throw on down to third, but it was a little wide of the bag. And he flags in safely. That Glock is down on the third base. Two out after Joe Medlick flies to JoJo White out in center field. Which brings Rip Collins. Rip Collins, Cardinals first tracker. Next combating order up to bat. Man on Third, two out score H2 in favor of St. Louis in the side of the eighth inning. Hodgson takes the ball, goes into Bell a few times and walked over, picked up the thousand bag. Drive his hand again. Soon that stand he's had both hands behind his back. Cross looks into the signal, finally winds up, shoots the ball in. It's a bounder down to a second base. Yinger takes a shooter down to first and the side is retired. All right, Tom Manning. You can tell how things happened in the cardinal pass of the eighth inning. Here's Tom Manning. Jack Rock was first up and the singling right tennis I, Frankie Fritz laid down a pretty sacrifice. And without pitcher, homeset to Greenberg. Greenberg tagging straight on the line. Joey Medlicman got a hold of one and drove it feet into left center field. Jojo White going back, ranked it back. Zach Rothrock left the third column. That hit a ground ball down second base plate. Connie Garlington came up with it, crossed the greenbird, retiring aside column. What happened? And bullets going to the last half of the evening. St. Louis Cardinals of the master league are out in front, 8 to 2. Fuller goes to center field for the St. Louis Cardinals, replacing Ernie Horsatic. Bullet in center field for the Cardinal, manager Mickey Chaplin. He's like the left out of will lead off. All the Tigers come in for. There's Mickey Fatran up there. Take his place here in the youth inning. You're seeing ceiling bases two dear seams, basic signal. Winds up, comes in into call site. If he didn't offer at it call psych on him here in the eighth inning back there. He takes it up the side wings, is the pick. It comes in, it's a ball wide of the plate outside to a left handed batter. He takes shoulders back to her around he's had one. Puts it back on his shoulder as he winds up, shoots it in. He doesn't offer at it. And it's a ball. Two balls again it moves wide to a left handed batter. It's about waist high. We've seen a dusty strap that wasn't quite to his liking. Take that lazy stand, the Rancher's. If he's standing there swinging his batters a pitch. He drives it down to the clock. Stop. Andrew Roaster shoots it over to Collins and he's out. Easy ball put across that handle and lock it up in the infield. They beat the ball around one gone here in the eighth inning. The Cardinals leading eight to two. Next man up is Charlie Geringer, sparkling second baseman of the Tigers. Makes a couple of wraps at the place. Got a big white bat race on his shoulder. He bats left. Here's the pitch. It's a call. Strike again. The first ball that comes over just about waist high and dead over the pan. A ball. Strike on. Charlie Garringer, who did not operate at all. Kept his bat on his shoulder. He looked good. Dean, whose team winds up just in, tries again. That change of pace, the floatery coming in and inspired to the plate by quite a bit. One ball and one strike. One out, Nobody off at bat. Count one and one on him. Here's a pitch. He drives the ball far wide and high, way out into left center field. And Dutie Medwick came over and got it. Incidentally, we got a change in obscurity at the start of this inning. Dick Fullett. Dick Bullis replaced our fatty in the cardinal center field. Two men are gone. Bringing Hank Greenberg up to bat again. Hank Greenberg wiped his hands with dirt, makes all of him fat. Swinging it down towards the plate. Takes a couple of toss, swings with it now over the plate and Dean is looking that bigly. Winds up with that halfling of his. Shoots the ball in and again. The first ball into the batter is a called strike. Rick Owens indicating it. Two out, nobody on. One strike on the batter. Here's the pitch. A call. Strike. He's got a one in there. He just turned it over. A fast one and a hot one right there over the plate. And it's a call. Strike. Strike. Strike. Two on Hank Greenberg. Two men out, nobody on. Last half of the 8-4H2 in favor of the St. Louis Cardinals. Hank Greenberg is back for the Tigers here. King gets a signal, winds up. It's a fast one up. He shoots him as a half driven ball throughout. It's over into the bend for a home run for Big Night One. Another one of his specialties. And the bag of rooters over there getting their chance to let go of the main drum. Big pot of paper. Little big brothers in that down Ulrich as Hank Greenberg shots around the bases. Comes in and cross his own place, steps on it. A home run for Hank Greenberg making the score 8 to 3. He's drove it high into those left field bleachers where those 17,000 bleacher Wright got up and whooped over their hero. Hank Greenberg drives into their mid. Just ain't looking to that fatter. Over with is Goose. Jlin, always a dangerous man at the plate. Shoots the ball in and the Goose fouls it high. Delanty knock his mask off, goes back after. Comes down and hits the screen just too far in for him to get it. It looked like it was coming down into his hands. But Delante didn't have a chance to get to that ball. And it's strike one on the goose. Nobody on. One run in four, eight to three in favor of St. Louis Cardinal. Two men out, 2000 at bat. That's left, you know, goes right however, taking place back in there. Taking a couple of style swings here. Gets a signal. Shark wind up, maybe takes it longer this time. Two swings and shoots it over. And it's a strike. He swung hard, very hard and very viciously at that ball. But got nothing to recover but the amount of air which is going to be fast. It strikes two on the goose. Mickey face back down there now. There's a determination on that set of Goose guys lined up, checked and the six and he drags it down to the short stop. The Roacher has it, sets it over to Rip Collins. And the side is retired 8 to 3 in favor of St. Louis. As we come into the last half of the eighth, here's Tom and you tell you about the Tiger. The pragmat of the eighth inning. Here come in, Tom. Tiger half of the eighth. We fall. Phillips going into center field for the Cardinals. Mickey Cochran was first up and he was out. The roaches to Collins, Colin Gehringer then fly to Joey Medlich. Medlich going into deep left center to make the catch. Hank Greenberg then got a hold of one and parked it high into the left field features for a whole run making it 8 to 3 2. Goslins 10 bottled out, touched off to Losure 2. First baseman follows, tries to happen to 8. Inning 1 1, one hit and no error at the end of eight innings. St. Louis Cardinals of the Master League 8 and the Detroit Tigers 3. We go to the maintenance of this first game of the World Series at Maven Field, Detroit. A southpaw picture is presently in the ball for the Tigers and Cochran is behind the back. First half of the night has Delancey of the Cardinals in first up. Mental Bill Delancey. The Cardinal catcher's first up there. He's got a big bat, Ducky trap and Al y' all comes up here to pitch and it's a ball wide of the plate. Back left. Ball was wide and outside the left handed. Ladder hog just got the ball again and the signal. Here's the pitch. Lindley fouls it up into the press box and the pressman has the ball. Is he going to return it? Well, that's the question here at the moment. Usually balls go back into the playing field, but somebody wants a souvenir of the 1934 World Series and it stays up in the press box. New ball goes into the game. It's Bill Delancey down there in the batter's box. He winds up, there's a pitch, pitch shoots in and it strikes two he swung hard at that one, but connected with nothing at all. Goes off, wipes his hands. He deserts taking place back at the box. Snaps plates. Here's the pitch. It's a ball, three and two on the batter. Three and two on Bill Delante. What will the next one be? Always the question in the batter's mind. When it's three and two come looping down. He drives it hard. It looks like it's going in the big, but not quite good. Goes back up against the fence and takes it on the run. That ball looks like another one of those homers into those left field bases. So Delany retires to dug out. There's one gone here in the Cardinals half of the ninth inning. Dick Bullitt, who has just replaced or Sati in the eighth inning in center field for the Cardinals is next up. Dick Fatson draws right, he takes place place down there in the batter's box. Now ball comes shooting over. It's wide of the plate at the ball. Wide to an outside, to a right handed batter. One ball. Officer has it again, looks over. Ziggler, winds up, shoots it in. He drives it hot over second base. Way out into center field. It's good for a single. Jojo White throws it back in. A single for Dick Fullett. He's just come into the ball game. That was his first hand at bat. Leon de Rocha. Start stop. St. Louis Cardinals next up score eight to three. Beta Leviticus Cardinals here in the ninth inning. First half of the ninth, the Roachers at bat. A man on, one out. Lodgers looking well. First turn, shoots it in fat and it's a foul. Into the Tigers dugout. Taking two policemen and a player died. The policeman was sending down to the end of the dugout. Rogers up there. Strike one. On it. Man on base. One gone four eight to three. He has Rep State for being able to hit when it means something. When there's a man on. His batting average.258 for the season. But he got most of those when it meant something. When there's a man on base. Roger has the ball after trying it over to Greenberg, trying to see what he could do with Mr. Pullis. He drives it down to the short drop who spikes it to second. But there wasn't time to get it down to first. Man is out at second, Dick Fullis. And Deroacher is on first base with two out. Dizzy Dean comes up. Dizzy Dean. And he's getting the ninth hand from the fan as he walks out of that dock. Comes sailing very slowly up to the plate walks around back to Pickle and then Mickey Foster to take his place. Lanky's hand to dirt, picked up the bat again. Back the flake. And Lanky was up the on. It looks like it's a pitcher. The pitch a bounder right down towards second. It's fielded by Zaring, who runs over steps on the second base, forcing the runner out of second. That was the ninth inning while the Cardinals will lead 8 to 3. And here's Tom Manning to tell you about it. In the final half of the ninth inning, Zelanski was first up. Zelanski finds deep to go. That was a nice running back by the goose playing over this board left center and crash back into left field to tag at long drive. Bullet, who recently replaced Marotti, singles to better field. Here's a Rocher, then forced forward to garrier and busy team after falling several pitches. Then force to Rocher. Shot of carrier on a ground private very close to the second base cab opposing to the last half of the lengthening St. Louis Cardinals. The Tigers please come in for airtime this afternoon. Well, you might hear this World Series baseball game. Here we have William George Rogel back and he fires off the first six here in the ninth inning, driving it back on a foul into the grandstand, the upper tier. The ball firing off the top of the bat is Dean got there, looking over the signals again. He winds up up Rogalis back. There's a pitch. It's a ball wide the plate and it's one and one. Bill Rollis back the ninth inning. First man up, winds up and here's the pitch again. Comes shooting and again it's half missing the corner and it's foul two, two and one on the batter. Ninth inning with the Cardinals leading eight to three over. The Detroit Pack is in his first game in Navon Field. Here's Derek feeding a big in again. He flings and fires another one that mile into the grandstand. That's the left of the plate. Bill will go check out the battery spot. Just about to get shot off the plate. Has a big black bat over his shoulder. Takes a couple of style swings. There's his wolf climbing up, makes a double wind up this time. Left out of the battle box and he's swinging up Armageddy. Starts to rewind him. Takes a section, shoots the ball in. And with the team that they decide to down right into left field in third, basement head. A nice single for Bill Rochel here in the ninth inning. These Tigers have had a reputation for plenty of run Paddling onto a pitch in the ninth. And the crowd is warming up inside the quadrutters here in Maven Field. Trying to get hot and try to rally here in the ninth inning. Water team wild, his favorite favoring their home gors. They're trying to stop coming. The old Major, the first baseman, who runs over and touches the bear locks it s hard in the load. Mounted right over to first. Rip Collins took it, stepped on the back for the ox. There's a man down on second now. Bill Row down on second. One out, one on. Running the bat. Down on second deep Fox. The right fielder, Weather Pack is up there. He backs right. He stepped in there with an assignment look on his chin. Here in the ninth inning with his team sailing 8 to 3. Shiblus around second base and 2 to 1 inning. Swings hard, missing the ball. And it strikes one on feet back. Ball goes back to pitch. There's a watch man on second either to Roacher Bing. That's in. There's a pitch comes in. It's a ball, a low one. Clancy taking it out of the dirt back of the plate. He's taking it right down on the ground to get it out of there. One and one Ball one in. Strike one. And on one out in the ninth inning, four eight to three, Tigers sailing. He swings five, drives one five. Dominant third base is the man coming into third. Throws it over. A very low throw to Rip to. We don't let it be sport. This won the Arabies on the man who made the throw. It was low. He sacked. Go. I got the man over there. Had to go over the first. But he couldn't get the man at first. But he stopped that ball. Ripped on him. Stopped it. We have Hawker coming in to back behind Hodgett here in the ninth. Cough. Coming in the back for Hodgkich. Man on first, two out. Did a great job having that ball and getting married. Man coming in there and then trying to wing it over to first. Has the news been getting you down? I'm Megan McCardell and I'm here to help. I'm the host of a new show

The Cardinals jack Rock laid down a sacrifice barbari to Greenberg. Quick out slow. This was a great tack by Marbo who ran some 40 to 50 yards away from the third. Take him down left field to make the cat Joey Medley with a cartoon his fourth hit of the afternoon with a single to right field scoring party making it the card 6 tigers 1. The Detroit Tiger representing the American League three runs, eight hits and five errors. The starting fixtures of Baton Row Jerome Dizzy Dean, who turned in 30 place victory in the regular campaign for the National League center. He was opposed by General Stowder. General Stower, you know, is one of the outstanding right hand pitchers of the American League for several years, particularly during the playing season of 1933 when he turned in a great number of victories to assist the Washington Senators in winning the American League Tennis however, he appeared to be plenty tired in the series last year and failed when he came back again this afternoon. Inspired my new surroundings. The cross he went in the box this afternoon but seated rather roughly by the representative of the last league to take those time. The outstanding plays this afternoon has been Quite agreed by 4th Barnes and Graham McAmie and Julie Truly of course the two long practice for home runs both in the left field races 1 by Joey Medrick of the Cardinals, the other by the first base for the Hulk, Green bird of the Tiger Barbo and Scotch of that long Foul was up SE. Anytime a third tracker goes 40 or 50 yards down the left field with his back to the plate, that is easily the outstanding player today. Billy Roel turned in two great plays for cover. He leaps into the air for a bad bomb and he got it fair at first, Then a fly ball with 10 ferrets in between. And for the third out of that seven minutes, Kelly Roel backed over, coached the second stage cushions, went down on one knee and came up with a skipper that was a 12 player over to first base for another round.
