Danny Thomas
Well, excuse me a second, Ted.
Ted Collins
What is it, Dennis?
Danny Thomas
Well, what you just said sounds great and I couldn't agree with you more even if I said it. But you think that's the way to start this show?
Ted Collins
What do you mean?
Danny Thomas
Well, I always feel we should surprise the people, keep them guessing, see? Now, when they hear Ted Collins, who would they expect next?
Kate Smith
Kate Smith, of course.
Danny Thomas
But who do they get?
Ted Collins
Danny Thomas.
Danny Thomas
Right away they're puzzled. They say to themselves, where's Kate Smith?
Dennis
When the moon comes over the mountain.
Kate Smith
Hello, everybody. Hello, Danny. Hi, Ted.
Danny Thomas
Hi, Kate. You see, Ted, that's how I would open the show.
Ted Collins
Well, that's not bad. But then what would you do?
Danny Thomas
Well, I sort of sneak in a little message for the folks on whose behalf we're doing the show like this.

Kate Smith

Ted Collins
Say, Danny, I think that this is the spot for Thomas Toccata.
Danny Thomas
A toccata, with or without mayonnaise. Actually, I think we should introduce a philosophical testament now. Something that has to do with life and the real value of things.
Kate Smith
That sounds very interesting to me, Danny. Do go on.
Dennis
Anyone with a million dollars can be a millionaire. But a poor man can be poor without a cent. Money doesn't mean a thing to a person's mental state. A man with 7 million is as happy as a man who has 8. Anyone with a lot of dough can be a wealthy man. Man But a pauper can be poor if he is great. Can money buy you romance as life unfolds it stand? Or the richness of a friendship that a man has for a man? Or the loyalty of loved ones? You bet your life it can. Cause the best things in life aren't free. In other words, Danny, anyone with a.
Kate Smith
Million dollars can be a millionaire.
Dennis
But a poor man can be poor without a stamp.
Kate Smith
You know, rich or poor, beggar or king, it's a good thing to remember that each of us has but one heart.
Danny Thomas
That's so true, Kate. The Lord gave us two arms, two legs, two eyes, two ears. But he only handed out one heart to a customer.
Kate Smith
And it's up to each one of us to protect that heart. My good friend Ted Collins found out from personal experience what happens when something goes wrong with the heart.
Ted Collins
Yes, I did, Kate. A little over a year ago, I had a very bad heart attack. I spent about five weeks in an oxygen tent and many more weeks of slow recovery. And during that tough period, do you know what I kept saying to myself? This just can't be happening to me. But it was happening to me all right. Just as happened to so many others. And like so many others, I too recovered. Oh, I have to count my calories and cut down on those long late hours of work that I used to. But if I take it easy, I guess the old ticket can still give me years of good service.
Danny Thomas
Ted, that kind of positive outlook was scarce 15 or 20 years ago, but since then, our medical men have learned a great deal about heart disease.
Ted Collins
Well, the fact is, Danny, I feel that I probably owe my life to the knowledge gathered by countless scientists and investigators who spent years tracking down the mysteries of heart disease. That knowledge has put me in the winning column, along with thousands of other heart victims.
Kate Smith
Yes, it's research that is saving hearts and lives. But research is very, very costly. And that's why it is so important for all of us to support the heart association in its all out fight against heart disease.
Danny Thomas
So, folks, this Sunday, when a neighbor of yours, a Heart Fund volunteer, calls on you, give generously for the hearts in your family.
Kate Smith
Give for every heart you love when you welcome your heartfront volunteer this Sunday. Heart Sunday.
Danny Thomas
Now, here again to sing from the heart for the heart fund is Ms. Kate Smith.
Guest Performer
My sweet impressible, you embrace me, you irreplaceable you Just one look at you my heart blues gypsy in you it's you and you alone it brings out that gypsy I love all the many storms about you.
Dennis
And above all, I.
Guest Performer
Want my arms around you.
Don't be a niper, baby.
Dennis
Come to baby. Come to baby.
Danny Thomas
Like a bell. Not only that, you think good too.
Kate Smith
Thank you very much, Danny. By the way, as a Southern girl from way back, I'm sort of partial to an opus that you once created about a street called Beal.
Dennis
I woke up this morning feeling out of blue Trans be East Avenue Street Street Beale street what have they done to you? I fell asleep on Beale Street Woke up on Beale Avenue they say I get to like it if I try very hard Neil College Bullet Street Sweet Field Street Tell me it ain't true that I was born on Beale street to style Field Avenue over all your proud possessions Made of banners they unfurled But Memphis on old be street it belongs to the world Brings back real trees Take back, Take back your.
Guest Performer

Kate Smith
Whether you live on a street or an avenue or a boulevard, your home is going to be mighty important this Sunday. Heart Sunday.
Danny Thomas
Yes, sir. Cause one of your neighbors, a Hart Fund volunteer, will be strolling down your street, ringing doorbells and asking for contributions to the Heart Fund.
Ted Collins
Well, you know, I may not be doing any of the thing around here, but I certainly can put in a good word for the Heart Fund. Ladies and gentlemen, here's what your Heart Fund dollars will buy. Better ways of safeguarding healthy hearts and saving those hearts already afflicted.
Kate Smith
So open your heart when you open your door this Sunday and give your Heart Funds volunteer a generous welcome.
Ted Collins
And remember, when you help your heart funds, you help your heart. Kate Smith, Danny Thomas. The hearts out front are all yours.
Dennis
I'm singing in the rain Just singing in the rain what a glorious feeling I'm happy again I'm laughing at cloud and singing.
Guest Performer
In the way oh, give.
Dennis
Me land Rock the land under forest skies of fall.
Guest Performer

Ted Collins

Danny Thomas
When a neighbor of yours, a heart Fund volunteer, calls on you, give generously in support of heart research, education and community heart services. A three way program that will eventually bring heart disease under control. Kate, the last word always belongs to the lady.
Kate Smith
