Clarion Parrot Clarion. Streetcar accident. 50 passengers in panic. Clarion Pair.
Larry Lowry
Yes, sir.
Mr. Hansen
Keep it in.
Moran
Gee, thanks. Some story in the Clarion intermissal about the streetcar.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Yeah, I know all about it.
Larry Lowry
Listen, kid, why don't you plug the Daily Sentinel instead of the Clarion, huh? You're selling both of them, aren't you? Sure, but that don't. Sentinel's got a better story than the Clarion ever had.
Moran
No, it ain't, miss.
Larry Lowry
Don't tell me, sonny. I phoned it in myself. It's all over the front page.
Moran
Yeah, but it ain't as good as the Clarion story.
Larry Lowry
Now listen.
Moran
Well, take a look if you don't believe me. There's a Sentinel right here.
Larry Lowry
Hey, taxi. Taxi.
Sergeant Doyle
Look at that.
Larry Lowry
Selling three Clarions to every one of ours. The Daily Sentinel office. Step on it. A fine yarn this is. Why didn't we give it an eight column head like the Clarion? And I don't even rate a byline. Sometimes I think maybe I'm working for the wrong outfit. Oh, this headline. Accident Delays streetcar Service. Say, what's the matter with this taxi? I can make better time walking.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Here's the Sentinel. Story of that streetcar business.
Casey
Nothing like the Clarion's, Mr. Reid.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
In case the Clarion isn't happiness, it can be sensational. As long as I'm publisher of this paper, I'm not going to color any story to gain circulation. A lot of readers may want lurid yellow journalism, but they won't get it from the Sentinel.
Casey
I bet Laurie will be burned up. Mr. Reed Laurie? Why, I imagine he expected a byline on this.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Bylines are reserved for scoops with special features. Every paper in town covered this. Lowry knows that.
Casey
He ought to.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Lowry's one of the best reporters in the game, Ms. Case. But once in a while he lets his nose for news carry him to extremes.
Casey
I guess every reporter looks for sensations.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Ms. Case, there's something behind these accidents that doesn't strike me as being on the level.
Casey
Well, I did notice that there weren't any until about the last month or so.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Just when this man Fisher starts a campaign to operate buses in place of the streetcars.
Casey
Hey, Mr. Reed, I didn't notice that.
Larry Lowry
What's going on around here, Casey? The Clarion's beating us three for one up. Oh, hello, Mr. Reed.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
The streetcar story. Is that it, Larry?
Larry Lowry
Well, yeah, that's it, boss. Of course I know there weren't any
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
passengers injured and there was no real
Larry Lowry
damage to speak of.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Sentinel said that, Larry.
Larry Lowry
Well, I guess the Clarion stretched the truth a little. A little?
Casey
They called it a panic.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Any sign of panic that you saw, Laurie?
Larry Lowry
No.1 Dame fainted when the door jammed.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That's all.
Casey
The Clarion would call a bargain sale at a dress counter a panic.
Larry Lowry
But look, boss, I don't usually go out on a limb this way about a small time accident. Only with that battle about the bus franchise coming up before the city council. This stuff is new. Not the way you think, Laurie.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You recognize the name Fisherman?
Larry Lowry
The guy who's angling for the bus franchise.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What's your opinion of him?
Larry Lowry
Offhand, I don't like him.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That's the feeling of most people.
Casey
Nothing's ever been proved against him, has it, Mr. Reed?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
No, Ms. Case.
Larry Lowry
He's very clever. He may get his buses.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Yes, Lowry. A month ago the city council would have laughed at his demand.
Larry Lowry
They're not laughing now.
Mr. Hansen
But don't you get it?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Doesn't it strike you as odd that the streetcar line should start running into trouble right when Fisher starts his campaign?
Casey
One more accident and he'll get that franchise.
Larry Lowry
Say, I must have been wearing blinders not to see it before. It's as plain as the nose on my face.
Casey
Plainer, if possible.
Larry Lowry
Lowry.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I want to find out what's going on.
Larry Lowry
You and me both, boss.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Fisher's responsible for the trouble of Charl have been having. The central wants to know it.
Larry Lowry
Okay, I'll start digging up dope on Fisher.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
How he goes, who he sees, what he does, everything. Make it good. And you get that violin.
Larry Lowry
Right.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
And get me the district attorney. Ms. Casey, you might have some stuff that'll prove useful. So, Fish, is the baby to go after?
Casey
Get the District Attorney and put the call through to Mr. Reed's wire. She's still Around Raleigh.
Larry Lowry
Casey, there's one thing that burns me up.
Casey
Do tell. Because you didn't get a byline.
Larry Lowry
Oh, no, it's the Clarion. Selling three papers to wire one. It isn't right.
Casey
Sentinel could use a scoop.
Larry Lowry
Lowry, you're telling me. The next time trouble hits the trolleys. All I wish for is that Fisher's in the middle of it.
Casey
The middle of the wreck?
Larry Lowry
No, pal, the middle of the story.
Casey
I hope you're right.
Larry Lowry
But I. Yeah, I know, I know.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Fisher's too smart.
Larry Lowry
But you heard the boss. I'm going after him anyway.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Absolutely no trouble, Grady. There's not a soul suspects those accidents weren't genuine. And what more do you want? Plenty.
Moran
The city council already has my report.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Those reports aren't strong enough.
Moran
Listen, Fisher, there's a limit.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
When the limit is reached, I'm the one who'll call a halt, Grady, not you.
Larry Lowry
Now hold on.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Council will never act on reports like yours.
Moran
If you want stronger reports, you've got to have tougher accidents.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You're the city inspector, aren't you? Sure. Then fake those reports.
Moran
There's a limit to what I can fake, Fisher. When a door jams, I can't make it look like a smack up. If the brakes stick, I can't say there ain't no brakes at all.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Why not?
Moran
Too many people can check up on me. That's why.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That bus franchise is going through.
Larry Lowry
Grady.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I don't care how.
Moran
That's your business.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
And yours. If you want any dough from me, you'll see that.
Moran
Yeah, I get this, Fisher. I'm in with you. Sure. I can use a cut of the
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
grave of your head.
Moran
And for same as anyone else, I'm making my reports as strong as possible without no one getting.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Why say you better.
Moran
Now you get that man of yours in the car bars to do a job on one of those street cars. So it'll really crack up.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
And what?
Moran
I'll turn in a report that will spell ruin for the streetcar company. Just like that. You'll be in, Fisher.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
The ones we have aren't strong enough, huh?
Moran
You'd be taking the chance. Fix another accident and you can't miss.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
In that case, I might as well make sure.
Moran
Now you're talking.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I'll get in touch with my man at once. This time there'll be plenty for you. And a district attorney too.
Casey
You can't go in there.
Larry Lowry
I am insistent. By what right are you busting like this, Mr. Fisher? But I had a deadline to meet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Oh, you're a Reporter. And it's different to have a chair. Thanks.
Larry Lowry
Nice place you got here, Mr. Fisher. Wish the Daily Sentinel would do as well by us.
Moran
I think maybe I'll be on my way.
Larry Lowry
Say, if I'm interrupting something.
Moran
No, no, not at all.
Casey
Goodbye, Fisher.
Larry Lowry
That guy sure was in a hurry.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
He. He had an engagement.
Larry Lowry
Isn't he Grady, the city inspector?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Who?
Mr. Hansen
Grady works for the city.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
No, no, just a friend of mine. Now what can I do for you, mister? What did you say your name was?
Larry Lowry
I didn't say.
Mr. Hansen
But it's Lowry.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Oh, yes, Lowry. With a Daily Sentinel. Say, what happened to you boys on that streetcar story?
Larry Lowry
We had it.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
The Clarion played it up big.
Larry Lowry
It wasn't important enough.
Sergeant Doyle
Not important?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Think how many people ride on those streetcars. A lot. The lives of hundreds, thousands of people may be in constant danger and you call it unimportant.
Larry Lowry
Get off the soapbox, Fisher. Everyone knows your angle.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Of course they do. I want my bus franchise to go through because the streetcar line is mismanaged, antedated and a menace to the citizens of this city. Buses are better, huh?
Larry Lowry
Much better.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
There's no comparison. Now why don't the Sentinel get smart and help in my campaign?
Larry Lowry
Like the Clarion, huh?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Exactly. How about it, Larry?
Mr. Hansen
How about what?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You're in a position to do me some good, Larry.
Larry Lowry
You mean a nice little follow up story on the streetcar accident? Placing the blame on the management of the company?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That's the idea.
Larry Lowry
Or maybe an editorial.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Sure. Who knows, I might be able to do a favor for you in return.
Larry Lowry
Sounds pretty nice.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Sure it is. I knew as soon as you came in the door you were a smart guy. What do you say?
Larry Lowry
Why, you chiselling, lying crook. You no good, scheming grafter.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Now see here. See here.
Larry Lowry
Try to bribe me, will you? Bribe a reporter? If you weren't smaller than me, I'd plaster you flatter than that rug.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Get out of my office. It's a pleasure.
Larry Lowry
And get this, Fisher. The Sentinel is going after you with both barrels. If this bus franchise of yours is as phony as you are, then all I hope is I'm the guy who writes it up. Boy, oh boy, will I scorch you.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That two pint reporter talking to me that way. After I get through with that street cursed company. That won't see enough. Lift it,
Larry Lowry
Brian.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You know who this is. I want you and Atwell to get busy. That's right. Make it a real crack up this time. The worst the streetcars ever had.
Moran
Yeah, what do you want?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Moran, put down that wrench. We got a job to do.
Moran
You mean through that?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Never mind the name. What's the next car going out? Number 618, right over there. Okay, come on.
Moran
What's it gonna be this time?
Mr. Hansen
The brakes?
Moran
Another jam door.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Open your lip and get moving. We're getting twice as much dope for this one. We're giving up the works.
Casey
Can you tell me where I get
Newscaster
the streetcar for Parsons Avenue, officer?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Right here, lady, at the bottom of this hill.
Casey
Thank you.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Well, that's her now. Just starting down the hill.
Casey
It's coming awfully fast.
Larry Lowry
Hey, look at that trolley.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Why would he stop? He's out of control. It's heading this way.
Newscaster
Look out. It's going crack.
Moran
My report of the streetcar accident shows that the cause of the crash was faulty safety equipment. There is definite evidence of criminal negligence on the part of the streetcar company. Signed Grady, City Inspector.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
The city council hereby calls a special meeting to vote on the bus franchise. Signed, Hopkins, Chairman of the City Council.
Moran
As District Attorney for this city, I
Larry Lowry
am indicting the officials of the streetcar
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
company for criminal negligence resulting in injury to passengers.
Larry Lowry
Signed Martin, District Attorney.
Newscaster
District attorney pearl streetcar crash city council of allan bus franchise.
Larry Lowry
I tell you, boss, I went over the whole setup with a fine tooth comb. There's not a single string leading to Fisher.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What about Grady? Not a thing. Calling on Fisher while you were there, Joe?
Larry Lowry
I knew it was him. But he's in the clear. His report on the crack up has been checked and double checked.
Casey
And if he wants to place the blame squarely on the streetcar officials, who's to stop him?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Those two new men in the car barns. You got anything on them? Moran and Atwell. You say they've been spending money freely. Did they explain it?
Larry Lowry
Yeah. Claim they wanted betting on a horse.
Casey
Try to check up on that.
Larry Lowry
Honest, boss, we're stymied. It's airtight all the way.
Casey
Gosh, I hate to think of a man like Fisher getting away with a stunt like this.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Me too, Casey.
Casey
Sometimes I'd like to take the law into my own hands.
Larry Lowry
What?
Casey
Well, honestly, Mr. Reed, isn't that the only way to catch these crooks?
Larry Lowry
Oh, Casey, hold on. There's only one Gentle can get away with that stuff. And you don't look like the Green Hornet to me. Am I right, Boss, or am I right?
Casey
He says I don't look like The Green Hornet. Mr. Reed.
Larry Lowry
Yes? Nobody listens to me around here.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
No, I heard you, Lowry. I. I was just thinking.
Narrator
That evening while Brit Reed Was in his apartment. He spoke to Cato, his valet. And the only living man to know that Brett Reed is really the dreaded Green Hornet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
And that's the whole story, Cato. Fisher has his tracks covered from every angle. What about no good, Cato. Even if those two could be charged with the crime of damaging the streetcar. Even if they were picked up, it wouldn't have to catch Fisher.
Moran
Why not?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
There's no actual evidence to connect him with Fisher. He could deny he ever heard of them.
Mr. Hansen
You look for something.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Writing paper. Here it is.
Mr. Hansen
It Ink.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I don't want this ink. That'll be some of the other in this drawer. Here we are. I want the mask and gun, Cato, the car. Is the Black Beauty ready?
Mr. Hansen
Yes, sir.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Quite a job disguising my handwriting.
Mr. Hansen
Now I see you on the bottom.
Narrator
Placing the letter in his pocket bit, Reed went through a secret panel in his clothes press.
Mr. Hansen
With Cato.
Narrator
He walked through a narrow passage within the walls of the apartment house. Then downstairs to the supposedly abandoned warehouse that housed the sleek black car of the Green Hornet.
Larry Lowry
Ready?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
All right, get in.
Narrator
Once more, the powerful black car roared
Mr. Hansen
through the city streets.
Narrator
Carrying the Green Hornet on his errand of justice. The curtain falls on the first act of our Green Hornet adventure. Before the next exciting scenes. Please permit us to pause for just a few moments.
Newscaster
Sam.
Narrator
Now to continue our story. A serious accident on the trolley line increased agitation to replace the streetcars with buses. Although the streetcar lines were blamed for the accidents. Biff Reed had reason to believe that they had been engineered by Fisher who was out to grab the bus franchise. When ordinary methods failed to pin the guilt on Fisher Brett Reid assumed the role of the Green Hornet to bring the criminal to justice.
Casey
Father, it's late.
Newscaster
You should be asleep.
Mr. Hansen
I can't sleep, Sally. Tomorrow the council decides on the bus franchise. They'll vote against me, dad.
Casey
They can't throw away all you've worked for. The streetcar lines are the finest in the country.
Mr. Hansen
Not anymore, Sally. Not when people are hurt through my neglect.
Casey
Oh, it's not your doing, dad.
Mr. Hansen
It's my responsibility.
Casey
Oh, dad.
Mr. Hansen
Fisher will get his franchise. Put me out of business.
Casey
Here's something to make you sleep.
Mr. Hansen
Leave it on the nights table, Sally.
Casey
There. The lights are out too. Good night, dad.
Mr. Hansen
Good night. No good thinking about it. Might as well do as Sally says. I'll open the window first. Fresh air.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Don't move, Hansen.
Sergeant Doyle
For you.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What are you doing out there? Mind that.
Sergeant Doyle
Take this letter.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Write it. That's better. Now listen, Hanson.
Mr. Hansen
I'm not Listening to the mask. You're the Green Hornet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You do as I say, I'll let you have some of this gas. What do you want? And letter tells you what to do. Hanson, you can take it or leave it.
Larry Lowry
Suppose I refuse?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Read it first and end decide if you want to go on running your trolleys. You'll do as I say.
Narrator
And the ace of spades.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That's 40 smackers you owe me. Ethel.
Moran
Shut up and deal.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Regular sucker, ain't you? Next thing you know, you won't have none of that dough Fisher gave you. What the. Cards down, Moran.
Moran
Who's butting in?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
The guy's mask keeper has on the table.
Larry Lowry
Hey, I know who you are.
Casey
That mask you're wearing.
Newscaster
You're the Green Hornet.
Larry Lowry
The Hornet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Let me out of here. I ain't hanging around cracking that chair. And listen, you two. Edwell, we ain't did nothing to you. You two are experts on fixing streetcars, aren't you?
Larry Lowry
Now, wait a minute.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Don't stall anyone about you two.
Moran
I tell you, you got us wrong.
Larry Lowry
Cut it out, Adwell. This guy's a Green Hornet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
We ain't fooling with him. Okay.
Mr. Hansen
Sure.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
We're the guys that done a job on them trolleys at Fisher's. Orders there.
Moran
Listen, Hornet, you had me talk.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You know it all anyway, with the sense of asking us.
Mr. Hansen
Sure it was Fisher.
Moran
Hey, who you calling?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I'm calling your boss. For what? He's gonna meet us at the car barns.
Larry Lowry
What?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
We ain't going to the car barns. Well, I want conversation from you too. I'll ask for it.
Newscaster
Yeah, but don't move.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Understand? This gun has gas enough to take care of both of you. Hello, Fisher. This is the Green Hornet talking. That's what I said, the Green Hornet. Moran, come here. Me? Fisher's on the other end of this phone. He doesn't believe it's the Green Hornet is calling. Convince him. Hello, boss? Yeah, this is Moran.
Mr. Hansen
It's him.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
All right, that's enough. Now get this, fishy. I'm going over to the car ponds with these two stooges of yours. Yes, Tonight. I expect to meet you there inside half an hour.
Larry Lowry
Never mind why.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
If you expect that bus franchise of yours to go through, you'll be there. Your whole scheme will be blown higher than a kite. You can't do this, Hornet.
Larry Lowry
You can't make us go over there.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You heard what I said.
Larry Lowry
Kept moving. Not on your life.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
In that case, I'll call the police. They'll be glad to know who's responsible. For that trolley trouble.
Larry Lowry
Hold on.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
At the Cat's Ferry. Now you're being smart. Yeah, yeah. Who will go with you?
Mr. Hansen
Hornet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Remember, one false move, you need the rod. Hornet, we're going. All right. Come on, you rats. March.
Sergeant Doyle
Slow tonight, Lori. Nothing but a couple of disturbing the peace charges. Stuff like that.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Well, as long as I'm covering the
Larry Lowry
police news, I might as well keep hanging around. Never gonna tell when something's going to pop.
Sergeant Doyle
That's what we're here for. Say, whatever happened to that big lug that used to work for Mr. Reed?
Larry Lowry
You mean Mike Axford?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Dog.
Sergeant Doyle
Who else would I be meaning? The way that guy used to get in my hair. Him and his theories and every last
Mr. Hansen
one of them wrong.
Larry Lowry
The boss got a letter from him the other day.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
He's out west.
Sergeant Doyle
Oh, he is, eh? Well, all I hope is he stays there.
Larry Lowry
Don't bank on it too much, Doyle.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
He may come back before Police headquarters.
Sergeant Doyle
Sergeant Doyle speaking.
Mr. Hansen
Police? This is Hanson, president of the Street Railways.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Yeah.
Sergeant Doyle
What's wrong, Mr. Hansen?
Mr. Hansen
Earlier this evening I got a letter from the Green Horn.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What is that name?
Sergeant Doyle
Did you say Green Hornets.
Larry Lowry
Holy mackerel.
Sergeant Doyle
Doyle.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Hi, flowery.
Sergeant Doyle
Keep talking. Mr. Hansen.
Mr. Hansen
I prefer to have you come out here to my place at once. It's on the corner.
Sergeant Doyle
I know where it is. A squad cow will be out there with me in it.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What's up?
Mr. Hansen
I'll explain that when you arrive.
Sergeant Doyle
Okay. The Green Hornet, is it? Well, here's where the Hornet loses his sting.
Larry Lowry
That's what you think, Doyle. I want to be around when you try.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Say, listen, Hornet. What's the idea of that? Will and me doing a job on this trolley.
Casey
Yeah.
Moran
Don't tell me you're working the same record that Fisher's been doing.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Keep working. You'll learn the reason soon enough. Hard work using this file with only a flashlight to give us light. Put some soap on that trial. I don't want any unexpected visitors. What's the difference?
Larry Lowry
The regular car barns on the next block.
Moran
Repair shop sent empty after midnight.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Sure. Nobody's gonna put in. Nobody could even hear us. Hey, you turned off the flashlight. We can't see nothing. Quiet.
Mr. Hansen
Must be Fisher.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Harnage. Keep quiet. Don't either of you try to move. I can see your figures plainly against the window.
Larry Lowry
Right.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That well, that light, it's blind. Over beside the others. Fisher.
Moran
What?
Larry Lowry
The water.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Fisher.
Mr. Hansen
He's got us.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I knew that phone call would bring you down here in a hurry. So it is true. That phone call did come from the Green Hornet. I told you I wasn't sure. But I couldn't chance. He made us.
Newscaster
What do you want?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
That range up. Well, that's better. Keep your hands high. What are you after, Hornet? Is it money? You see these fish here? Green Hornet stickers.
Mr. Hansen
Yeah.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You're in a spot, fishy. Suppose I plaster this trolley with these stickers? Put them all over. Go ahead. That has nothing to do with me. The city council will think the Green Hornet caused the streetcar accident. Hanson will be vindicated. What will happen to your bus franchise then? Let the streetcars go on running. Exactly, Fisher. Hornet A. I'll give you 20,000. I want more than that.
Moran
30,000 if you forget the scheme. I don't mean money, Fisher.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
All I want from you is your signature. My signature? Either you confess your part in these trolley crashes or those stickers.
Mr. Hansen
Go on.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Whichever I do, I'm finished.
Larry Lowry
Right.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Either way, you lose. He's got you, boss. You're bluffing, Hornet.
Mr. Hansen
Am I?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What can you possibly get out of it if I confess? Nothing personally. Only the satisfaction of knowing that your dirty scheme has been ruined. Better hurry, Fisher. The police will be here any minute. The cops?
Larry Lowry
Hey, what?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
You're not serious. All right, Fisher, the stickers.
Moran
Go on.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
No, no, wait. I'll sign. Give me time to get away before they come here. Pen's right here in my pocket. And here's the confession. Pretty sure your self words, Howie. Turn the flashlight on a minute, Hornet, so I can see when. Put him up. What gun? Stand back, Hornet. Thought I was reaching for my pen, huh? Nice work. False. You had a shoulder holster, huh? You can't get away with this.
Larry Lowry
I am getting away with it.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Drop dead, can of you, I said. Yo.
Moran
Come on, drop it.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Now, Hornet. We'll get you out of this place before any police arrive.
Mr. Hansen
All right.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
As well. Grab him.
Newscaster
Okay.
Larry Lowry
Yeah, we got it.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Listen to me, Fisher. You listen to me, Hornet. You're going to.
Mr. Hansen
You what, Fisher?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Not for you too.
Larry Lowry
Yeah.
Newscaster
Let me get him, will you?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Not now.
Newscaster
You take care of him. I've got Moran. My yard.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Good thing you were here.
Mr. Hansen
Fisher's gassed.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
He's too knocked out. You used jujitsu on that well, huh?
Mr. Hansen
Yes, sir.
Moran
I was behind the guard.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
He saw you there, but the others didn't.
Moran
Moran.
Mr. Hansen
Yeah, Moran.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Nat will be coming to in a minute. Quick, pick up that gun.
Larry Lowry
Very well.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
We'll leave this confession beside Fisher. It's not signed, but I think it'll serve the purpose anyway. Yes, sir. Now we'll get back in the shadows. Beside that window and see what happens.
Moran
The police got you with me.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
There's no light bombs for us.
Sergeant Doyle
Here they are.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Rebels. Flashlights.
Sergeant Doyle
This way.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Hey, these two mugs have been stopped.
Sergeant Doyle
They're knocked out.
Larry Lowry
Doyle, here's Fisher. Fisher?
Casey
Yes.
Larry Lowry
Chelsea's been caught.
Casey
Fish.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
He's been gassed.
Larry Lowry
Officer, these two men are Moran and Atwell.
Mr. Hansen
They work in the repair shop.
Larry Lowry
Dirty work, I'll bet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Look at this. The axle on this trolley's filed almost
Larry Lowry
all the way through. He's coming around. Listen. Listen, Hornet.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Don't. Don't tell it. Don't tell the cops. Hornet.
Sergeant Doyle
Go on, Atwell. Keep talking. The cops. You and Moran did this job, didn't you?
Larry Lowry
Hey, tell her that. Well, you're in too deep already.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Yeah, yeah, but we was working for Fisher, that's how.
Larry Lowry
Fisher's the guy. How?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I tell you Fisher paid us to wreck all them trolleys.
Sergeant Doyle
And you'll swear to that in court?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Sure, I will.
Larry Lowry
Sure.
Newscaster
Moran, too.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Does this mean Fisher will be implicated?
Larry Lowry
Implicated, Mr. Hansen?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Fisher will be convicted.
Larry Lowry
He might have got away with it before, but now that we found him here, where these two rats.
Sergeant Doyle
Yeah, right in the middle of another job. He's sunk, Mr. Hansen.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Hey, sergeant, look at this.
Larry Lowry
I found it next to Fisher's body.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Give me this.
Sergeant Doyle
That's for the police, Lori.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
What the.
Larry Lowry
Hey, it's a confession. But, uh, it isn't signed.
Sergeant Doyle
Don't worry. It will be when we get Fisher down to headquarters. Take those lugs out.
Moran
Oh, my Joel. Come on. You grab the other one, Joe. Yeah.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
We'll come back for Fisher later.
Larry Lowry
Well, there you are, Hanson. You don't have to worry about the bus franchise when this hits the front page.
Sergeant Doyle
What gets me is what happened to these guys.
Larry Lowry
What do you think, Doyle? The Green Hornet, huh?
Mr. Hansen
If I hadn't followed the instructions in that letter, we'd never have caught Fisher.
Sergeant Doyle
What do you mean, Mr. Hansen?
Mr. Hansen
His letter told me to call you. At first I wasn't going to trust him. Then I thought it over.
Larry Lowry
Hey, we haven't seen that letter yet.
Mr. Hansen
It was such a rush.
Moran
You got it with you?
Mr. Hansen
Yes, I think so. It's in longhand.
Larry Lowry
Longhand? Give Hansen. Maybe that handwriting can betray.
Mr. Hansen
Sure it is, but I doubt if you can trace it.
Sergeant Doyle
I'll take that.
Mr. Hansen
When I first looked at it, the handwriting seemed to be disguised. Come on, Doyle.
Larry Lowry
Come on, open it up.
Sergeant Doyle
Hey, there ain't no writing on this page.
Larry Lowry
It's blank. Maybe you need glasses, Doyle.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
I tell you, it's blank.
Larry Lowry
Well, what do you know, I'm positive
Mr. Hansen
there was writing on that paper before.
Sergeant Doyle
There ain't any now. All there is is this here Green Hornet seal in the corner.
Larry Lowry
Doyle, I get it.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
It's disappearing ink.
Sergeant Doyle
Disappearing ink?
Larry Lowry
Yeah. Try and trace that man. That Green Hornet thinks of everything.
Sergeant Doyle
And I thought I had me hooks on him.
Mr. Hansen
What's that?
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
The Hornet's car there, out the window?
Sergeant Doyle
That's him, all right.
Larry Lowry
And there he goes.
Sergeant Doyle
Oh, I've been working for that car.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Look at it travel.
Larry Lowry
Well, Doroth, I guess the Hornet still got his sting. But don't worry, your name will go in the papers anyway.
Brett Reed / The Green Hornet
Yeah, that's right.
Sergeant Doyle
Inad Fisher.
Larry Lowry
And them too, with a little help. Got a phone around here I can use, Mr. Hansen? The Sentinel's going to get an ear full of front page stuff. And, boy, I'd like to see the Clarion try and beat this yarn.

Host: Harold's Old Time Radio
Date: May 10, 2026
This episode of "Harold’s Old Time Radio" presents a classic Green Hornet radio drama, “Trouble Hits The Trolleys.” Set in a bustling city, the episode follows crusading newspaper publisher Britt Reid (secretly the Green Hornet) as he uncovers and thwarts a corrupt plot to sabotage the city's streetcar system in favor of a private bus franchise. As suspicion shifts between newsmen, city officials, and mysterious new employees, the famous vigilante takes action in his alter ego to expose the crime and restore justice.
The episode brims with classic radio drama flair: crisp, overlapping dialogue, hardboiled quips, ethical tension, and suspense-laden showdowns. Characters speak with urgency and wry humor characteristic of Golden Age crime fiction, with an undercurrent of civic responsibility and vigilance.
“Trouble Hits The Trolleys” exemplifies Green Hornet’s knack for drawing back the veil on urban corruption by using both sharp journalism and masked vigilantism. The episode boasts fast-paced plotting, pointed social commentary about “yellow journalism,” and creative detective work—notably Britt Reid’s disappearing ink trick—as justice triumphs and the Green Hornet melts away into legend.
