📖 Matt 6, 16-18 TPT May we be people who hunger after purity in the motivations of your hidden hearts "When you fast, don't look like those who pretend to be spiritual. They want everyone to know they're fasting, so they appear in public looking miserable, gloomy, and disheveled.[o] Believe me, they've already received their reward in full.17–18 When you fast, don't let it be obvious, but instead, wash your face[p] and groom yourself and realize that your Father in the secret place is the one who is watching all that you do in secret and will continue to reward you openly." LIVING WORD SERIES Welcome to these "Word by Heart" devotionals. They were recorded during the 2020 Covid-19 lock-down and it is hoped they will stir up a deeper love of Scripture and a greater hunger for God's presence in your life, whether in or out of times of crisis. They consist of some of Jessica's favorite Bible stories and passages, and most center around Jesus' Sermon on the Mount as found in Matthew. We have decided to share in the order in which they were recorded during LockDown, rather than the Biblical order. They build one on the other, as Jessica leads you through some of the insights that she gained during the process of memorizing and verbally presenting them to audiences over the past few years.

📖 Matt 6, 7-15 TPT When you pray, there is no need to repeat empty phrases, praying like those who don't know God,[g] for they expect God to hear them because of their many words. 'Our Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms, may the glory of your name be the center on which our lives turn.[h] 10 Manifest your kingdom realm,[i] and cause your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth, just as it is fulfilled in heaven. 11 We acknowledge you as our Provider of all we need each day.[j] 12 Forgive us the wrongs we have done[k] as we ourselves release forgiveness to those who have wronged us. 13 Rescue us every time we face tribulation[l] and set us free from evil.[m] For you are the King who rule with power and glory forever. Amen.'[n] 14 "And when you pray, make sure you forgive the faults of others so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you. 15 But if you withhold forgiveness from others, your Father withholds forgiveness from you." 📖 Matt 6, 5-7 TPT Whenever you pray, be sincere and not like the pretenders who love the attention they receive while praying before others in the meetings and on street corners. Believe me, they've already received in full their reward. 6 But whenever you pray, go into your innermost chamber and be alone with Father God,[f] praying to him in secret. And your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly.7 When you pray, there is no need to repeat empty phrases, praying like those who don't know God,[g] for they expect God to hear them because of their many words. 📖 Matt 6 1-4 TPT Examine your motives to make sure you're not showing off when you do your good deeds, only to be admired by others; otherwise, you will lose the reward of your heavenly Father. 2 So when you give to the poor, don't announce it and make a show of it just to be seen by people,[a] like the hypocrites[b] in the streets and in the marketplace.[c] They've already received their reward! 3 But when you demonstrate generosity, do it with pure motives and without drawing attention to yourself.[d] 4 Give secretly and your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly. Its about the heart condition not keeping the law. LIVING WORD SERIES Welcome to these "Word by Heart" devotionals. 📖 Philippians 4:6-7 New Living "Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God your needs and don't forget to thank him for his answers. Then the peace of Christ, which surpasses understanding, will keep your hearts and minds at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus." This was the first ever scripture that I learned. I learnt it from an old Children's Living Bible which has long gone by the way side. LIVING WORD SERIES Welcome to these "Word by Heart" devotionals. 📖 Ephesians 1 NLT This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I am writing to God's holy people in Ephesus,[a] who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus. 2 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.[b] 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. 9 God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,[c] for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. 12 God's purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. 13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own[d] by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him. 15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God's people everywhere,[e] 16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom[f] and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.[g] 19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
