But we have already seen her giving drugs to other Imperial soldier people. So it's like, you know, they party. They have been trying to come up with a plan of how to get Therian out of the contract with the Viper Queen with the Viper Queen with the Viper. And when they were interrupted by the Hind showing up in the middle of all of this. What fresh hell do we have here? Tharion is watching Flynn and Declan facing off with the Hind, weapons drawn. Mark and Ethan are crouched about to shift, blocking Sigrid. Tharion, jolted out of his sick with fear, decides to he needs to interject in the only way that he knows how. By being a little man.

Oh my God. Yeah. Swinging saloon dick coming right into the area.

[Natalie Je]

So he puts on his old and irritating least sexy swagger, the part of him that is effectively gone at this point. But to save the lives of the people in here, he manifests it. Walking, sauntering next to Flynn, he gently pushes down the barrel of his gun, offering a lazy grin to the room.

Instead of anyone offering any explanations, behind asks Sigrid for a moment of privacy with the boys. Ethan immediately says no. But Tharion realizes that she may need to give information about Rune and Declan and seems to understand that they can't reveal too much to too many people.

Also, can we just say thank you Hind for treating Sigrid like you know, an entity at all. Like I feel like again not to compare an Ariadne and a Sigrid. I feel like it's another one of those where like oh yeah, she's just like a wolf. You can say whatever you want. She's just like a part of the room. And I do feel like both of them kind of end up. It's like thank you Hind for acknowledging that Sigrid probably is someone that is too powerful that doesn't need to know this information. And maybe you're not thinking powerful, but we'll take it.

You know what I mean? There's not a lot of females in the room right now.

So you know. Also Flynn seems to kind of understand what's what they're they're laying down. So he kind of insists she leave. And Tharion offers his room since Ariana has locked her door so there's nowhere for Cigarette. Therian's like you go my room baby. After some huffing Cigarette agrees to go wait in his bedroom. The fire sprites always hovering around Sigurd.

So they are exchanging information very quickly. She tells them in hushed tones that she has come here specifically to find them. They weren't at their house. She says in air quotes, because she was disgusted by their frat house. But she knew that Tharion had sold himself to the Viper Queen, so she tried here. So she has sought out the Viper Queen specifically looking for them.

I do love that she can deal with what she like the kind of torture she has to do. She gets horrific attention from Pollux as well. But the state of how dirty the frat house is, that's too. Oh, that is too much for the Hind.

Tharion is perplexed to see the Hind flinch whenever Ruhn's name is brought out of Flynn's mouth. She gets out to them that the three, the that Hunt, Baxian and Ruhn are still alive. Bryce. She trails off, not seeming to know how to explain what Bryce. Where? Where? Or what Bryce is doing. Anger erupts through the room. The Hind turns to face Flynn, trying to appeal to him. She looks him straight into his eyes and tells him she is here to help them rescue Rune.

Oh man, their brains must be rattled.

And they're not necessarily like, they're not dumb, but they're not geniuses. And so they're probably going, but.

But think of all the earth root they were smoking. You know? And there's also a reason why they are not at the forefront of the battles that they've been having. You know, you're like, I know you're hot.

She's what? She's explaining. It's not making them feel more trustworthy, but she is saying she knows more than they thought. But they are also, at the same time very desperate. They don't have a plan and they have these moments to make a decision. Declan concedes that he has, yes, done that before, but their plan had failed. He bitterly reminds them that they need to only ask Cormac. In other words, can't, because he died in their plan.

She insists that she has done nothing but find ways to keep run alive. Almost in a hysteria, she cries out that she has been forced to manipulate Pollux into going slow with the torture. She turns to Flynn. If he won't help her, Ruhn will die. And she tells him she will hunt him. Flynn to the ends of the earth if he dies on his account.

[Jackie Zabrowski]

Don't you have other things to do? I'd be like, that sounds like you got.

I mean, they're trying to get him help. Brune. Anyway, I know she turns to theory and it explains how she made sure the depth charger was there to get him after Cormac gave his life. Basically dropping more information being like when you guys infiltrated, I was the one who made sure the depth charger was there to get you back to shore. Using he also. She uses Cormac's code name to also be like. See. Therian points out that she could have killed the actual Agent Daybright. And after extracting all of this information,

I mean it is times like this that we do forget that Tharion is a captain of intelligence. Because I always see him as such a. Like I'm just like a surfer. I'm a surfmer. And I fee. I forget that it's like he is a captain of intelligence.

Well, that's not gonna happen. The Heinz shoulders sink down. She tells them that they can believe whatever they want, but she will be freeing the trio of the males in three days from those dungeons, even though she will likely fail without their help.

She will do it anyway. No one seems convinced, but Declan approaches her and really tries to read whatever exists in her eyes. She tells them to hide their families, tells Tharion, you must find a way out of this servitude to the Viper Queen. She makes it clear that they can just not do any of this. But all hope is lost. So either piss or get off the pot. If you actually want to help the these males, if you want to get them out of the dungeon, this is the only way. They continue to argue and pick over points of why they shouldn't believe her, but the hind's done with explanations. Her only conceit is that Ruhn is a valuable person to her. With scant time left before the Viper Queen returns, she tosses a white stone to Tharion. He realizes it is the same kind of stone she threw into the water that day that they had blown up Ophian's stolen mech suits. He looks at her and she confirms that she summoned the depth charger that day.

[Jackie Zabrowski]

So it is good. Like, she does lay out some really good proof. Because like, all, like, at first, they are right where it's like you could have gotten this information from anybody and but it.

[Natalie Je]

It just all or she's diabolically evil and she has gotten this information to trick them.

[Jackie Zabrowski]

I feel like if you're in the same conversation where you find out that information about Celestina, I'd be like, trust no. Bye. I. I don't know, but I know they have no other choice.

[Natalie Je]

Yeah, I mean, they kind of are at the end of the rope and they're all pretty much convinced they're gonna die anyway, so I guess maybe just do as well. What else are they gonna do? Sit down there?

[Jackie Zabrowski]

Because also, it's not like she's asking them to get inside of the Palace. It's literally like, do the job that you do from afar.

[Natalie Je]

Give me my. Like, I'm gonna give you cues. And you have to follow them. Not answering any further questions, Lydia turns to the sprites who have taken places around Flynn's shoulders.

[Jackie Zabrowski]

Also now being called Lydia, which I do. I like the interchange of, like, when she is behind and when she's Lydia because there is such a dramatic difference in character. Even though it's not like. Like hit you over the head with it. But it's that even in this one chapter that it is being referred to from behind. Changing it into Lydia.

[Natalie Je]

Yeah, because it is. It is important to the character herself. She is. She is. She differentiates those two. It's like the only thing that keeps her alive in some ways. So she turns to the sprites who have taken their little places around Flynn's shoulders. They cower when she directs her attention to them, but they quickly become angry when she tells them she needs to talk to them about their queen. Remember she pulled her from the Mystics hall and that bubble and tried to get her to torture Hilde and she wouldn't. She refused to do it.

[Jackie Zabrowski]

She won't do it.

[Natalie Je]

Not gonna do it.

And also, remember, back to Lehaba. Like, remember that even though fire sprites have been kept down for far too long, we are powerful as well. We have. We can have control of a situation. That's her job to make it so. But if they don't help her, she knows that the Asteri right now are choosing. Choosing one of the males, either Hunt or Rune to kill to try to bring Bryce back.

Man, it is really badass, though, to think that Bryce is in a completely different place that literally not. Not the Princess of Hell, not the Hysteric that no one knows where she is. That's. It is awesome. It really is awesome.

And they're all trying to act like they're not worried about it. They're like, yeah, we got this. We're in charge. We're, like, kind of important, so we know things,

They stare at each other in silence, only broken when Declan tells Flynn he's getting his wish after all. They're going to break into the palace, man.

Remember back in the beginning of the second book when they were like, just don't with the Asteri. Like, if you just don't with the hysteria, everything's gonna be all right. And I know we wouldn't have the second other books, but I wonder, like, you know, maybe hunt and like, you know, maybe like a rune. Do you think they think that when they're getting tortured over and over and over again?

We don't know if it's the correct tunnel yet. But they have been walking and walking, walking down this path and it's just etched with more and more drawings and descriptions of. Of stories. What is what it seems like.

The strange carvings had continued all the way here. Showing great Fae battles and love making and childbirth like the fire tornadoes. Showing a masked queen, a crown upon her head, bearing instruments in her hand and standing before an adoring crowd.

I hope they don't have a fire tornado down there because I don't think there's a lot of airflow in the tunnel and they would probably suffocate.

And no one knows. According to Nesta, she claims that not even Reson knew this tunnel was here. And so they are just learning about this together. Unlike some of the battle scenes they've encountered etched into the walls in this section, the wall is filled with almost like a religious propaganda with lush lands filled with milk and honey. Bryce though feels cynical looking at it because she sees the imagery suggesting it's the phase quote, right to rule the land over the humans. But it describes a beautiful landscape the way that you would see like religious iconography where.

All right, you know, maybe this is just coming as a human that hates being a human. Aren't they? They are kind of in charge.

She hadn't commented on the lower half of the carving, which depicted a hellscape beneath their thrones. Some kind of underworld. Humanoid figures writhed in pain amid what looked like icicles and snapping scaly beasts. Either past enemies conquered or an indication of what failure to bow to the rulers would bring upon the defiant. Yikes. Or is it your annoying sister and her friggin boyfriend Nesta?

The threat of death and destruction is always near for those who won't obey. But as we return to the present moment, because that was all her reflecting on their walk that day, she's thinking all of these things as she and Nesta are staring directly into an icy river. Well, they've reached another body of water. But this time there's no high bridge to pass over. Instead there's just a roaring, freezing, fast moving body of water with the opposite end too far to jump. Despite being able to see the tunnel entrance commence on the far shore. But they can't get there.

Man, these tunnels are big. This a big tunnel. It's just crazy. It's like Reese, you didn't know all this was down here, man.

Like why did she think no one was watching her when she was in there? And she's asking her why she can't winnow, which is what they call teleporting here to the opposite side. Like she had done in the interrogation room.

But also I would assume that like if quick thinking, especially with Bryce, where it's like, oh, they don't have phones, they probably don't have cameras down down here. I imagine I feel like we'd be

They have ways of doing it. But I feel like as a half human, like that has like grown up with technology. Like if we were thrown into something like that, it's like, oh, this is just a stone room. There's no way they can see into. You know, I feel like without thinking of the magical side also, I mean, Bryce doesn't care. So there's that on top.

You should be find now to do the magic your star's working. This I think alludes to the idea that the magic has a lot more juice here than on Midgard. Because the face seem very, very powerful. Whereas in Midgard there's been a bunch of like with Autumn King and stuff. Talking about how every generation their magic seems to be fading. So she's like, no, magic's really good. I just, no, don't look at my magic, man.

It's got to be so suffocating to know you're so much more magical on the ins inside. But to have like the collar of being kept down and just feeling it on the inside. No wonder Bryce is such a. I feel like I would be too, you know, if I had all this magic bubbling below me and I can't reach it.

Bryce tries to understand the clarification of difference between the High Fae and just fey fei fay on fei day. But Nesta just brushes it off. Which makes Bryce like her like 5% more. Because Nest is like it's all stupid. Like it's all whatever.

And also like mean game recognize mean game.

Yeah. But it's clear that Nesta thinks the Fae are full of shit as well. Which Bryce is like okay, I think we can get along. She then Nesta reveals something else to her. That while she is now High Fae, she was in fact born a human. Bryce of course doesn't know if this is a normal or strange thing on this planet. But the idea that Nesta was both human and Fae gives Bryce a sense of camaraderie with her. Even though Bryce or her lineage isn't exactly the same. She's half and half. Like it seems like Nessa was all human. Yeah, but it's sort of like understanding both both worlds. And Bryce explains her heritage then saying maybe she knows how Nesta feels. Nesta, who's not one who seemed to want to hug it out very often. It's like, yeah, well then none of that gets us across the the river. So can we move on? Bryce's thoughts are conflicted. This information makes her want to trust Nesta more. But it could also be a way that Nesta is manipulating Bryce more easily. Man, all gotta always be thinking 40 chess.

And also not that I'm saying only the like the women in these books. But how do you continue to trust anybody with what they've been through? I just feel like. Like you could say whatever you want. Keep flapping them gums.

You have to end up using a lot of magic stuff to try to like sort through what's true and what isn't.

But even then it's like honestly looking at the Hind in the fall in the previous scene, where it's like it wasn't just the information she did have to kind of physically. And even just that drop giving the stone in the very end of just like boom. You know, because at the end of the day with magics, like in the world of magics, people can know a lot of it for. In many different ways, you know?

Yeah, you got to bring a whole PowerPoint presentation if you're trying to get your somebody to believe you about something. So Bryce is feeling these like, conflicted feelings towards Nesta. So she kind of sighs and she kneels down to get a closer look at the rushing water. Trying to think of what to do. She's surprised to see that she can see the bottom of the river better when she's bent over than she expected.

Because she's almost like, when I get closer to the water, I can see it better. Yes, that.

But she also realizes that it's because her light has once again brightened.

Just like when she made the decision about which way to go into the tunnel. It seems like her scar has an opinion.

She stands back up and yeah, it does in fact dim her light slightly. Looking forward towards the tunnel, Bryce mutters her disbelief under breath. Like, are you kidding me right now? Nesta looks at her and asks, what's up?

Bryce didn't reply. The star had led her this far if it wanted her in the river, Bryce glanced over a shoulder to Nesta.

And with a wink, Bryce jumped into the roaring water. Brother, they ate that. Just like a brace for. Yeah.

We cut to just moments later with Bryce being dragged down the river. Her hair, her head barely above the freezing cold water, she was just able to catch a cursing Nesta jump in behind her. Now Bryce is being thrashed around as the river takes her across. And around bends rocks threatening to bash her head in at every turn. She thinks, come Star, tell me you haven't just made the deadest dumb idiot that's ever lived. So she's like, I don't know if this was the correct choice, but we're just standing there. So I've done it. And then around a bend in the river, her spotlight catches a change in the horizon.

The ray of silvery light landed upon a small pool bulging out of the opposite side of the river. A break in the rapids right in front of a small bank and another looming tunnel entrance beyond. Well, oh my God, her star was right.

Maybe we think she says, let's give this a go and see what this is.

I love it, man. You know, Bryce Nice never talks about her decisions, even when just in a tunnel with one other person.

Yep. And she starts swimming with all her might towards this calmer water. It's like when you're in a lazy river and you're like in the raft and you're like trying to get out. You're like, oh my God, we only have this moment.

Oh my God, you're like trying to get over there and that. Or when you like get away from everybody. But they're the ones that have the like cooler of beer strapped to their tubes and you're desperately trying to get back to them.

Yeah. And you can't, can't, can't beat the river. So she starts swimming as hard as she can towards this calmer pool. She turns enough to see that Nesta is following her. They both frantically swim, knowing that if they don't get close enough fast enough, they'll be swept past it in the river to God's knows where. Then the pool lessens on them.

They get closer to the shore. They have made it. Panting, soaked through and angry, Nesta asks the age old question, what the. Bryce shrugs and is like.

Bryce whirled on her knees, reaching for a weapon that wasn't there. As Azrael landed from above them. Goo goo, goo, goosh, goosh, goosh, goosh. And everybody starts Kiyomian. No. We continue on reading. His wings were spread so wide they nearly touched either side of the cavern. And the black dagger hung at his hip. Its dark hilt gleaming faintly in the light of her star. And peeking above a broad shoulder, its matching dark hilt, like shadow given form, was the star sword.

Well, well, well, well, well. Azrael has been here this whole time.

[Jackie Zabrowski]

Yeah. And then our. Oh, our crackling fire starts to roar. And our bosoms are flapping. Oh my God. God, do those shadows and these fires intertwine? Can we make them one, Azriel?

Well, I mean they are all wet. They need to gather probably together for warm.

It appears we've dropped in just after Hunt has conveyed to Ruhn what the princes have told him in his semi sleep. So we're just a little bit after the last chapter we had with Hunt after he was with Apollyon and Aidas and they gave him absolutely no help, but said that Bryce is somewhere else. So Hunt is trying to tell him that the three males, those two in Baxian, are a mess. Though Rune notes that they are all on the ground now because usually they're hanging from their arms, but a little briefly. Right before this chapter, the hawk had released them from their hanging spots by dropping them harshly on the ground. So which I guess is like a practice every day for a minute while they have, they're fed something. Even with the agony of the wounds hitting the concrete, the reliefs, the relief of their arms being able to move slightly is immense. They are being sent their daily feedings of broth and water, just enough to keep them alive. But even then they are still chained. And the hawk and Pollock make them crawl through a bunch of stuff I'm not going to mention here.

They're like really good at torturing.

[Natalie Je]

They're really, really good at it. They're really good. As starving as Rune is, he's not sure if he will be able to hold the broth down. He wonders if the oracle foresaw this room and that's why the royal bloodline ends with him. That the oracle had known this was always going to be the end of him. Maybe Bryce is lost in between space and time somewhere and neither of them will ever continue the line. Hunt mutters to Ruhn that he must drink the broth and eat the stale bread they've left. They have to stay alive. All three of the males are barely in condition to talk, but they are still encouraging one another. It's not time to die yet. He watches Hunt force a piece of bread down his throat before his exhausted body lays back resting on this disgusting ground, too tired to care what he's laying in with injuries that would have killed a human. Rune hears Hunt moan that he doesn't know where Bryce is and Rune knows that the agony of that is on par with his physical hurts. Baxian joins suit and lays down to sleep as soon as he gets up a f a few bits of food in him because they're just never really able to. When you're hanging from your arms, you're not really able to fall asleep. Ruhn remains seated for a moment staring into the cup of water in front of him, muttering that they need to get out of here. Hunt opens an eye from where he lays and tells him to get in touch with his quote person. Then he means Lydia of course.

Baxian mutters, laying on his back from across the room that he had never fully appreciated what Hunt had went through during that time because remember, he was a part of the Triari though. Rune looks at Hunt and tells him, hey, you are alone. Then Hunt looks at him quizzically, then understands what Ruhn means. Ruhn is conveying to him in that look that he and Hunt and Baxian are all in this together.

Friends, brothers, whatever. He had Athelar's back. Something glimmered in Athelar's eyes. Gratitude maybe, or hope. Much better than what had been there moments ago. It sharpened Rune's focus, cleared the pain, fogged bits of his brain. This might be a one way ticket for him, but it didn't have to be for Hunt and Bryce.

Baxian chimes in, supporting and encouraging him and reminds him that he has grown. Hunt is changed. He is the umbra mortis now.

And now that's where we're going to end the episode because we need oh my gosh, right now it's like one of the the in the tunnel gonna do one of the the the boy in the other tunnel of torture gonna do. And we are just left on the precipice of plotline.
