Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, my God. Hey.
Rebecca Frecknell
Hello.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Welcome back to my theatre themed YouTube channel. Currently filming on location in New York.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yep.
Mickey Jo Theatre
How exciting. We've been here for almost two weeks now where we've had the opportunity to see lots and lots of shows. I think we've seen 17 all Broadway shows in 10 days.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So if we seem delirious and oh.
Rebecca Frecknell
I saw an Off Broadway show.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, you saw. Yeah. You saw an Off Broadway. Have I only done Broadway? I think I have. You'll find out in all of the vlog content and the review content and all that stuff. Coming soon. But this one has to be turned around quickly because the Tony Award nominations are about to be announced on Tuesday, 9:00am U.S. time, Eastern Time on Tuesday morning. That'll be at 2:00 in the afternoon for anyone following it from the uk, which is what we'll be doing because we'll be back in the UK by then. We will be live. When that happens, we will be reacting. I'm sure there will be shocks, there will be strong feelings. Do you want to do a little bit of a zoom? There we go. There we go. There we are. But yes, and that's basically why we've been here right now, because everything has been opening it. Well, not everything, but so many shows have been opening in these last few weeks of the season now. Everything has opened. We haven't seen everything, but we've done pretty damn well this year.
Rebecca Frecknell
We've done pretty well. Yeah. This is the first year where we've kind of been going to New York through the whole season.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
But there's still always those shows that we miss in those gaps between trips because not everything makes it.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes, Yes. A lot of what we missed was closed over the summer before we could even get back. After our first trip, I was just going to talk through what we have and haven't seen. So we didn't see Back to the Future because we. But we've seen it in London and it's a largely similar production with an admittedly different cast. We saw Days of Wine and Roses, we saw Harmony, we saw Hell's Kitchen, we saw Her L's Love. We saw how to Dance in Ohio. We've seen Illinois, we've seen Lempicka. We did not see what's Upon One More Time. It Came and Went before we could. We've seen stuffs. We've seen Great Gatsby, we've seen the Heart of Rock and Roll. We've seen the Notebook, we've seen the Outsiders, we've seen Water for elephants. So all musicals except two technically good job. Us musical revivals, We've seen all except the Wiz. So we've seen Tommy Spamalot, Merrilee, Gutenberg and Cabaret. Haven't seen the Wiz yet. We might still see it on this trip.
Rebecca Frecknell
We only have one day left.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Time will tell. What it will tell, I don't know. You'll have to. You'll have to ask. Time. New plays we've done less fantastically at than musicals because we have more to say about musicals. Didn't see Greyhouse Came and Went. Wanted to but didn't get the Chance. Didn't see any of that. Didn't see Jar Jar's African hair braiding. Didn't see Just For Us, which I'm devastated about. Haven't seen Mary Jane. I've seen Mother Play. You haven't.
Rebecca Frecknell
I haven't.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Haven't seen Patriots. But we both saw it in London. Both saw Prayer for the French Public. Both saw Stereophonic. Both saw the Cottage. Neither of us saw the Shark Is Broken.
Rebecca Frecknell
No, it had loads of versions of the uk.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah, but that's that thing of, like.
Rebecca Frecknell
We just don't rush as much to plays.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And when I miss a show in the UK and it comes to the us, I sort of resent seeing it here because I'm like, I should have seen it in London. It's my own fault. Play revivals, we've done three out of five. We've seen appropriate or appropriate. Who knows? We've seen Pearlie Victorious and we've seen Uncle Vanya. We have not seen An Enemy of the People or Doubt. And we. Neither of us saw Elmego Pop or Melissa Etheridge, My Window. But we've done better for this Broadway season than we ever have in the past.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So I feel pretty good about that. So what we're going to do today is based on what we've seen, based on what we've heard from other people, based on the reviews, based on sort of the reception to those shows within the theatre community. We're going to talk through what we think the Tony nominations might look like on Tuesday. These are just our predictions. They're not entirely based on what we want to happen. They're what we think will happen will happen, might happen. And should we start with Best New Musical? Because this is like. This is the talking point, really.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So what do you think is a lock for best New Musical? In fact, that might be the wrong question, because I don't know if any of these are a lock.
Rebecca Frecknell
It's true. I feel like. I feel like it would be a shock if Suffs wasn't there.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Suffs is going to be on there, but I think if Suffs is on there, the Outsiders is just as likely to be on there.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah. And Water for Elephants.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Well, Water for Elephants and Hell's Kitchen are the two New York Times critics picks.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And so I think.
Rebecca Frecknell
So we got four.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think it's those four and Illinois.
Rebecca Frecknell
So my. My one is between. I put I think Illinois, but the one that could be there instead is the Notebook.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Interesting. I don't. I don't know. I don't know. I think Water for Elephants and the Outsiders between them, push out the Notebook because those are the ones that kind of live in the same sort of sphere tonally. It depends on books and telling love stories.
Rebecca Frecknell
If there's a tie, you could go up.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But there's also Days of Wine and.
Rebecca Frecknell
Roses, which I was like, oh, yes. But then it closed early, so I don't know if we'll see them in, like, school and these performances, but not in musical.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think that show will be recognized for its material and not necessarily for the show, for its material, its performances. If My Heart could make a nomination, Her Lies Love would be on this list. But I sadly don't think that will happen. Musical revival, then this one, if we're expecting four nominees, I think is pretty easy.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, I think it's easy.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It's the fourth slot. I don't know. But the top two are obvious.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah. Cabaret and Merrily we roll along.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Cabaret vs Merrily We Roll Along In a Cage, Fight to the Death. And one of those is going to.
Rebecca Frecknell
Win, then I think it's a case of. Of the other two, just the ones that are open, which one would be Tommy and the Wiz?
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Tommy, yes. The reception to the Wiz. I. I don't know. But then it's on a national tour and that's often an incentive.
Rebecca Frecknell
Exactly. So many of the voters are regionals, not nominators. Ah, yeah. I mean, Gutenberg has such a big response, but I don't know if just people have forgotten about it. That's the only thing with Gutenberg.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It made. It made a real big impact when it was here. I say Tommy and Gutenberg as the third and fourth.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, I'll go with that.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Those are my thoughts. Who have we shut out of that category? Who are the other revivals?
Rebecca Frecknell
Spamlot.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
The Wiz.
Mickey Jo Theatre
There's a beer. Fine. New play then. If we're Expecting five Stereophonic. Oh, I haven't even pointed out I'm dressed like plays today. Aaron's dressed like musicals because you're wearing Outsiders. And Tommy, I'm rocking stereophonic T shirt. And this is from Mother Play. You can call me Mother. You don't need to do that New play.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think Sarah Ponnique prefer French Republic.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. Definite two. And then it's like Mary Jane reviewed really well.
Rebecca Frecknell
I could see Mary Jane and Mother Play just if they're going for, like, open area.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Jar Jar's African hair braiding.
Rebecca Frecknell
Got really good reviews.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Is also going to be in the mix. If we're seeing five. I think those are the five play revival. I think we're only anticipating three.
Rebecca Frecknell
At which point, well, appropriate's definitely gonna be there.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Appropriate, Appropriate. Definitely gonna be there and probably gonna win because they have deemed that to be a revival based on the classics ruling.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yep.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Pearly Victorious also gonna be there.
Rebecca Frecknell
And then I'd say if it was between Vanya and Enemy of the People, it'd be Enemy of the People because.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It reminds me those are the three I have written down. I also think Enemy of the People. Amazing. So those are all our thoughts on shows, plays, musicals, new, and revival. Let's talk next about. Let's do, like, direction and choreography.
Rebecca Frecknell
Okay.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So I haven't completed my predictions of this. I'll start with Choreo, because I have more strong thoughts about that. Illinois, obviously, is getting a choreography nomination because it's a full dance show with, like, incredible dance and an enormity of dance and dance used explicitly for storytelling in a very beautiful, meaningful way. Illinois, absolutely going to get a choreography nomination. I also have the Outsiders.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yep. Fully agree.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I also have Hell's Kitchen.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yep.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Doing a very different thing. Giving you a contemporary, giving you urban. I have Cabaret.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I have the who's Tommy?
Rebecca Frecknell
Interesting. So the only one that made me go it was like, where does the acrobatics and that's true circus skills lie? Do they lie in choreography? If so, would Water for Elephants get one because of that? Because I don't know.
Mickey Jo Theatre
You think that over Tommy or do you think that over Cabaret?
Rebecca Frecknell
I don't know.
Mickey Jo Theatre
These are where the challenges creep in. But that's a good point. I had not considered this because I.
Rebecca Frecknell
Don'T know where I. Because I think I'll get a direction on, but, like, I don't know where that specific element lies.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Well, that being considered, let's jump then to direction, where I Do have water for Elephants. I also have our two heavyweight revivals, Cabaret and Merrily We Roll Along. Yeah, I think in any other year, I don't know, based on how it was reviewed, I. And it's worth saying that everyone's like, oh, New York didn't like Cabaret. And I'll talk about this in another video, but the critics and the Tony nominators are not the same people. They are not the same group, and the audiences are not the same as either of those groups. I think in a. In a year where the new musicals were stronger, because broadly, what we have is sort of a lot of good new musicals, which are all. There's not a lot that are, like, doing everything well. They're like shows like, oh, you've got great material. The direction of the Choreo isn't quite there, or the set isn't quite there. And it's like, you are really well staged, but the material's a bit lacking. I'm like, this is a beautiful story, but the score does nothing. That's what the new musicals are like this year. All of which was to say, I will not forget this point. I will circle back to it. We will get back there. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. All of which was to say, I'm gonna get there.
Rebecca Frecknell
All of which was to say, who's your missing nominee?
Mickey Jo Theatre
No, I was gonna say, in a stronger year for new musicals, I think Rebecca Frecknell could have got shut out for Cabaret direction if the nominators felt the same way as the critics based on those reviews. But I don't think that will happen. That was a really long tangent. I apologize to everyone for taking you on that journey with me. Thank you. I hope you're all still here. Anyway, I think Cabaret and Merrily. Rebecca Frackman, Maria Friedmull. What did I say?
Rebecca Frecknell
Rebecca frackman.
Mickey Jo Theatre
We've seen 17 shows in 10 days.
Rebecca Frecknell
And that is the end of part one. Rebecca Friedman, welcome to part two of the video.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, my God. Hey. Rebecca Frecknell and Maria Friedman, I believe will both get nominated for direction. Water for Elephants will also get a Direction nomination. And I've said the Outsiders for Daniel King.
Rebecca Frecknell
I. I agree, but.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But.
Rebecca Frecknell
But there's a world in which I think Suffs could get one, because, I.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Mean, that would bring us up to 5. I've only said 4.
Rebecca Frecknell
If I was looking in the world of who's been nominated the most out of all the new musicals, Most of them have all been shut out of all the other awards groups, apart from Lee Zimmerman. She's the only person that's got one for new musicals, so.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And that would be five for five, all female Best Director of a Musical nominees.
Rebecca Frecknell
Personally, though, I kind of wish that a Notebook would get one, but that's on a personal.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I'm sad not to have written the Notebook more times on here.
Rebecca Frecknell
We just don't know how, like, separate.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
The people that the nominators are to the critics and how they'll feel.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I also think there's really great work across the board in the Notebook, but it doesn't feel as obviously primed for awards, if that makes sense.
Rebecca Frecknell
I get what you mean. It's not as. It's subtle. It's quite a subtle show, and subtle sometimes doesn't.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
Stick with people.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Best direction of a play, then. I have five written down here, but I was kind of just like pulling on random ones for the last two. Stereophonic, obviously. Yes. Appropriate. Appropriate, obviously. Yes. Prayer for the French Republic, I think, as well. Pearly Victorious, I think. And then it's the last one. I put Mary Jane on the basis it was reviewed really well, but I don't know. I'm a. I'm a. I'm a leaf in the breeze for that last Direction of a Play nomination. It could be Enemy of the People.
Rebecca Frecknell
It could be Georgia's hair. African hair braiding.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It could be Jar Jar's African hair braiding. It could be Mother Play. I think there's. There's room for that fifth nomination to go in a bunch of different directions.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I don't really have any other strong thoughts about it.
Rebecca Frecknell
No.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Let's carry on then, to. Let's do actors in plays. Okay, let's do actors in plays. Leading actor.
Rebecca Frecknell
You can talk more of this than I can because you've seen more.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I have, and I have thoughts. Leading actor in a play. There's a couple that we haven't seen who. I just think based on the roles that they are playing this season and what we've heard, we'll get to like Michael Stuhlbarg in Patriots. We've seen the play, and after we didn't see him in it, we saw Tom Hollander. But we've seen the play enough to know that that's a really meaty role. He's a celebrated actor. That seems likely. Similarly, Jeremy Strong in An Enemy of the People. The man is not staying in character throughout a climate protest to not get a Tony Award nomination for Best leading actor in a play. I also think. And this is not my personal opinion.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, Steve. Carell.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Steve Carell might. But I also think it's a really quiet year for leading actors in plays.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, I think it's one of those where it's like he's debut on stage and there's the glitz and glamour of having somebody there that's.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And, you know, I don't think he's bad in it. My issue is with the direction, so let's not. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.
Rebecca Frecknell
It'd also be interesting to find out where Stereophonic goes, if her clusters supporting or if any of them go to lead. Because I think if any of them go to lead, they'll be like, they'll get along.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Those are my next two. Because I think if anyone is a leading actor in Stereophonic, it's going to be Tom Pasinka. Who was the guy?
Rebecca Frecknell
Peter.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Peter, thank you. Yes, I think he will, I think. But we haven't had that ruling yet. So that's why there's a little bit of uncertainty here. Not that there's five minutes until the nominations and we'd like to know or anything, but, hey, at least you get rulings here. The Oliviers don't tell us until.
Rebecca Frecknell
No, you just have to randomly guess.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, and Leslie Odom Jr.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It's my fifth. It's my fifth. Leslie Odom Jr. For Pearl of Victorious. But you see, it's. It's not a huge year for actors in plays. It's also just not a huge year for plays because in previous seasons, I mean, in last season, Broadway was inundated with play transfers from the West End and, like award winning, but it was like Prima Facie and Leopoldstadt and Life of PI.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think this year is very much a. There are two front runners and that is it. And like, even when, like Prague Chanter, that kind of came through and had suddenly broken through as a frontrunner, and then Stereophonic was like, actually, no.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And now Stereophonic said hold my Cocaine.
Rebecca Frecknell
And just everybody is on the. Stereophonic.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Carry on.
Rebecca Frecknell
Everybody is on the. On the Stereophonic train. So I think that's kind of a.
Mickey Jo Theatre
As they should be. As they should be. Leading actress in a play, then. And this is the other Stereophonic question mark, because Sarah Pidgeon is the one I think could be considered a lead for Stereophonic.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
If not featured, I think Sarah Pigeon will get a nomination in either category.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, I think she's kind of guaranteed. But if she goes into feature, then it'll knock off the other female performer.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Well, interesting. You Say that because I've put Sarah in lead, but I haven't put any other Stereophonic nominees in featured. So I've got Sarah Pidgeon in lead. I've also got Sarah Paulson in lead.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Sarah Pulse and a Given a Lock confirmed.
Rebecca Frecknell
Probably the front runner, the lead in Prefer French before Betsy Aiden will get one. Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Betsy Aiden. Yes. And then we've got the stars of the moment on Broadway. Jessica lange and Rachel McAdams for mother play. I'm basing this. What I'd assumed was Jessica Lange leading. Celia and Jim both supporting. I don't know if it's just the generational nature of the family that's making me think that, but that is also. Also what outer critics said. Yeah, I think so. I thought that.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yes.
Mickey Jo Theatre
No, no, that's not to say that's how it will happen, but that's how I'm assuming it for this. But yeah, those are my. Those are my five thoughts. And it's a fun little reunion of American Horror Story alumni Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lang. And there's two Sarah P's. There's fun details. Should we do featured next? Yeah, I struggled with this and then I sort of remembered a handful of performances and then I struggled. Less featured actor in a play. I do think our own Will Keane.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Will get one for Patriots. He won the Olivier for this performance as Vladimir Putin. I hope this video doesn't get demonetized. I've said cocaine and Vladimir Putin within five minutes. That's theater content, I promise.
Rebecca Frecknell
You said it twice.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I know. Making it worse.
Rebecca Frecknell
You're not helping yourself here, YouTube.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I need you to appreciate the context. I think Jim Parsons for Mother Play. I think William Jackson Harper.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
If anyone gets a nomination for Uncle Vanier, I would like William Jackson Harper and I do think he's featured rather than leading.
Rebecca Frecknell
But I mean, the shark is broken. Feels like it's just been a while back. If that was. If I had lasted longer.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah. But maybe if we'd seen it, we'd feel differently because it's hard to know what's going to get remembered.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So very possibly that will have a presence in that category.
Rebecca Frecknell
I feel like Stereophonic is where is basically going to fill the other gaps in that.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I've got Will Brill and Chris Stack from Stereophonic. And Will Brill is, I think, the more likely of the two because he was amazing at it. Featured actress in a play, Kara Young. And then sort of is my obvious. And then there's everyone else prefer French Republic Frances Ben Hemou.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. Was someone else I added to this as well. I am still rooting for. I'm gonna say it because I still think about this performance.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, yeah. From the Cottage.
Mickey Jo Theatre
From the Cottage. Dana Steingold. I am hoping that Dana gets that nomination for a comedy turn in a silly comedy play. That was a little while ago, but I. I am hoping for it. And then also I said Celia Keenan Bolger, I think she probably has. She just has the least material in Mother Play. And so that may work against her, but she has a very strong final 10 minutes. And it's only in those final 10 minutes, really, but she has a very strong final 10 minutes and I'm wondering if that's enough to give a strong impression. And the last one I have is Natalie Gold, who is the sister in law from Appropriate.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, yes, yes.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Appropriate.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I mean, I didn't say Corey stole from Appropriate and he was very good, but I think he just gets overshadowed by Sarah Paulson.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, there is Sarah Paulson is the.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Moment and then there's everyone else. Yeah, that's the thing. So those are our thoughts on actors in plays.
Rebecca Frecknell
Those are Mickey's thoughts with her and tripping in where feels appropriate.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I like, I feel strongly about the appropriate, the stereophonic, the Prayer for the French Republic ones and the Pearl of Victorious ones. But there's a lot that we haven't seen.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So if there's any sort of glaring omissions there and you're like, I can't believe you didn't say this person's fantastic performance. It's just because we didn't see it and we're not following the discourse around those planes closely because they're not what our friends talk about over cocktails at midnight in Manhattan, which is a nice little insight into our life and another explanation as to why I'm so tired. What should we do next?
Rebecca Frecknell
We might as well just carry on with the actors categories.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. Well, are we going to do the design ones? Because I think it's a little bit tricky for either. For both. Because, like, I always find this tricky. Like speculating is like, who's going to get sound design and who's going to get lighting? Could we talk about it in a more general way? Maybe by looking down the list and being like, they could get these. Okay, let's just. Let's just go through. You have the list, don't you?
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Back to the Future. I would like to see. Get a lighting design nomination and set as well. I think.
Rebecca Frecknell
See Sound was where I thought it's probably more likely the Garaf Owen.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Maybe all three.
Rebecca Frecknell
Gareth Owen's got two shows this season, which is that. I think he has three.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think he's Hell's Kitchen. I believe I saw Gareth Owen sound on the. On the booth at the back of the Schubert as opposed to the Schubert at the back of the booth. That was a silly joke.
Rebecca Frecknell
So I feel like. I feel like we can. Basically, I would. My statement is Gareth Owen will get a sound design nomination. He might get multiple, but he. He would definitely be part of it. For Witches, I don't actually know, but he will be there.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Days of Wine and Roses could get something like costume. It could even get set. I don't have an issue with the set. I have an issue with the way that the set was interpreted. Maybe that will get direction. Maybe that's the direction one we forgot about as well.
Rebecca Frecknell
Maybe. I think it's school. That's most likely is for Dathon Win and Roses.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And we will get to that. Let me tell you. Harmony.
Rebecca Frecknell
I don't knowingly it was choreography that Harmony stood out for. Probably not most, but I have fond.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Memories of the lighting in Harmony. They had so many mirrored surfaces. I think that must have been deeply challenging. Hell's Kitchen, I think will get sound.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And maybe lighting.
Rebecca Frecknell
Focus. All the spots. Spot work and the kaleidoscope.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here lies love now this all being white in the world ought to get a rich array of creative nominations. Because if it was.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah. It closing early is what worries me that it will get in the categories because really it should be in lighting. Cynan's set.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I mean, I really hope it gets set. I really hope it gets set. And I don't think we've been inundated with so many other incredible sets enough to push out the mind blowing work that David Korrans did to transform not only the set, but the entire theatrical space. We've since been back to see the Great Gatsby, which will also get set.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I fully could not rationalize that being the same building. So I hope Her Lies Love gets. I hope it gets sound and lighting and set.
Rebecca Frecknell
I just worry for heroes.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Love costume.
Rebecca Frecknell
It wasn't the only show that transformed a theatre, rather that the cabaret of it all, which included all the foyer spaces.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah. How to Dance in Ohio.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it's gonna be forgotten.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think sadly it might. And that. That does make me very upset.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So I will be. And I'd love to be proved wrong about this. 1. Especially the shows we loved. If we see a nomination for these, you will see us live on Tuesday. Jumping up and down Illinois. Now this. I think set.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think set. I think maybe sound and lighting could.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Get sound and lighting, but I think definitely set. That's a gorgeous, gorgeous playing space. Lempicka. In a perfect world, they should. Because the creative work is really strong. They should. They should get set and they should get costume.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, costumes. Costumes are stunning and probably lighting. Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But I don't know if they will because the momentum is against them with the reviews, with the gross.
Rebecca Frecknell
I can see them getting orchestrations. Good to see them getting orchestrations as well. If we go.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I was going to park orchestrations under score book and that's no different. I'm sectioning this in my head because this is going to be a very unedited video. Apologies for the chaos. We have time to film this. I don't know if I have time to edit it vigorously, so I'm trying to structure it in advance. I didn't need to share that with you, but I like to be forthcoming. Once upon, One more time. We didn't see it.
Rebecca Frecknell
We didn't see it. So we can't really comment.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And if they get one, I'll be like, good for you.
Rebecca Frecknell
It's one of those ones where they could get a rogue nomination but it won't be like a clump nomination.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Free Britney, all that. Suffs, I think.
Rebecca Frecknell
I don't know.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I don't know. Suffs is not about its design.
Rebecca Frecknell
No.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Really. And so I don't. I don't know. I'm not moved enough to say in any direction. Great Gatsby. Probably set in costume. Yeah, Maybe Lighting.
Rebecca Frecknell
Maybe lighting.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Green lights.
Rebecca Frecknell
The green lights and Beetle.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Heart of rock and roll should get costume and sound.
Rebecca Frecknell
Maybe. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
The Notebook should get set. And I feel very strongly about that. Yeah. It should also get costume, but again, it's subtler work because it's like the.
Rebecca Frecknell
Rain work in the Notebook is gorgeous. With a lake at the front.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah, yeah. You mean the river.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yes.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Like a stream.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Perhaps an estuary. What is an estuary?
Rebecca Frecknell
It's not an estuary. That's massive, is it? Yeah. Estuary is like part of a city.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Like, I thought estuary was smaller than a river. I thought you had rivers and then you had estuaries. I've said estuary too many times and it's gone weird. Estuary. No, you don't have to google estuary. We can stay. We can stay on topic. No, this is too much of a tangent. Go back Go back to the. Go back. He's googled estuary.
Rebecca Frecknell
Estuaries are massive. That's an estuary.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I. I was horrible at geography. We know I'm horrible at geography.
Rebecca Frecknell
Is it a partially enclosed coastal water body? It's mustard.
Mickey Jo Theatre
This is not news. We've spent too long on estuaries now. I know. I started this.
Rebecca Frecknell
It's a bit between the sea and the river station.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I can't edit this. Can you go back to the nominations, please? You have to Google it again because you.
Rebecca Frecknell
It's good.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, okay.
Rebecca Frecknell
So an estuary.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Shush. Anything else for the Notebook? Costumes should. Because I love the way that the costumes are themed.
Rebecca Frecknell
Lighting would probably be the other way because we have.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I feel like we've given out 10 different lighting options already.
Rebecca Frecknell
Lighting season.
Mickey Jo Theatre
These are all musicals, FYI. And this is all just new musical as well. Outsiders.
Rebecca Frecknell
Lighting and set.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Lighting and set.
Rebecca Frecknell
The dirt on the floor actually was so effective.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So effective. My goodness. And it made me question every other musical that takes place outside that doesn't have dirt on the floor. Water for Elephants. It's hard because it's not its set. Like the set of things. It's not the set, it's the people. I wonder if puppetry comes under costume. Yeah, but if puppetry comes under set, then there's that. So puppetry Misk is the answer for water. For relevance. Musical about Cabaret, I think. I think Cabaret will get set.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
A hundred thousand percent. I also think lighting, perhaps. I think costume.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Gutenberg probably should get set.
Rebecca Frecknell
It was a really good set. It might be. Get forgotten costume for the hats.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Probably not. Merrily. If Merrily gets set, it's just because, like, we love Merrily and we're giving it loads of things because, like, it's.
Rebecca Frecknell
A static set, like nearly static set.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It's fine. It looks like a legal office. It's. It's fine costume, maybe. Because again, like the Notebook, Merrily's costumes have a clever meaning within the color, and I like that. And they also like going through the generations in a subtle way, in a way that's not like. Yeah, very obvious. 60s and stuff. Spamalot. So much of it is just very. Based very heavily on the original production.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, it's like a lighter version of the original production. Which means that I don't know if they'll want to. I don't know if people will award it because of that reason. Yeah, because it makes it feel like if you did a lighter version of.
Mickey Jo Theatre
A production, Tommy, I think will get sound 100%. 100%. And could get costume and could get lighting, but we'll definitely get sound.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And the Wiz. I don't know.
Rebecca Frecknell
We don't know.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Don't know because we haven't seen.
Rebecca Frecknell
We've heard. It's mainly the performances.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
And the set.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah. Scrolling through the one thing I heard about Jar Jar's African hair braiding is that the wig design was sort of an argument that wig design should be recognized. Mother play. The set did some fun things, but then was also kind of limited. Patriots, I think, will get a set one if you remember that set. Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
And stereophonic.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Stereophonic is going to get set. It's going to get lighting, it's going to get costume. Because I feel very strongly about the costumes for Stereophonic. I would like to go thrift shopping with the costume designer of Stereophonic because my good. Just oh so good sound as well. Sound, obviously. Sound obviously. Sound, yeah. Stereophonic for all of the above. Prayer for the French Republic. So get set. Had you said that already?
Rebecca Frecknell
No, I hadn't said it yet.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Prayer for the French Republic.
Rebecca Frecknell
I was thinking appropriate maybe.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Appropriate, definitely.
Rebecca Frecknell
Because that was very clever.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Definitely the set for appropriate. I mean appropriate again, I think we'll get set, we'll get lighting. I don't know about costume.
Rebecca Frecknell
Maybe sound as well, because the sound work, especially in the last three minutes of appropriate were very good.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. Yes. Mother Play could get costume. Maybe. I mean, a lot of. They've got a lot of naturalistic plays where it's just like people wearing clothes.
Rebecca Frecknell
I mean, if you're talking costume in a of Evan, the cottage kind of lands into that world.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think the cottage will get a costume. Nom. Possibly Shark is broken. Possibly Jar Jar's. Just because they did more. We skipped right past Greyhouse.
Rebecca Frecknell
I feel like that says set.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It could be set, it could be lighting. Yeah. But again, we didn't. Didn't see it. Cottage, I think set as well as it's cost Costume.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
We got to walk on that set very briefly. It's very cool and it was cool. Enemy of the People is at the circle of the square, which is in the round. So I don't know how.
Rebecca Frecknell
We don't know what happened, so we can't really comment.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It's a mystery to me. Maybe. Maybe lighting, maybe sound.
Rebecca Frecknell
It's the same. Because the Pelle Victoria set was very good as well.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I'll pele victorious set definitely. And costumes, I think as well. Uncle Vanya. I sort of hope it doesn't get set just to throw my own convictions into there, But I don't know whether or not it will. Lighting, maybe costume, I don't know.
Rebecca Frecknell
I mean, Ani can only rose everything she wore and her different wigs in that show.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. I feel like I've arrived at the end of the road about how much I have to comment on with play design categories before we finish with. Well, no, let's go to the performers in musicals. Let's do that next. So let's. Let's have a look here. Let's start with leading actor in a musical. Who are the locks?
Rebecca Frecknell
Brian D'Arcy James.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. For Days of Wine and Roses.
Rebecca Frecknell
The lead in Voo's Tommy. He's got noms for every single award ceremony.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh. Not even on my list.
Rebecca Frecknell
The fact I've seen him nominated by every single list makes me think that he's a look in that sense.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So the names I was expecting you to say were Jonathan Groff.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, yeah. Jonathan Groff. Yes.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And Eddie Redmayne.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yes. But I feel like we.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I don't think he's. I don't think he's guaranteed a win.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But I think Eddie Redmayne is guaranteed a nomination.
Rebecca Frecknell
And I think the other one is Chip Sign.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But I've got two more.
Rebecca Frecknell
You got Brody Graham from the Outsiders.
Mickey Jo Theatre
No. Oh, this is a longer list than I thought. Josh and Andrew.
Rebecca Frecknell
I feel I might get forgotten.
Mickey Jo Theatre
You think Josh and Andrew will get. It's hard because I haven't had anybody.
Rebecca Frecknell
Mention Gutenberg in a while.
Mickey Jo Theatre
How do you nominate one and not the other? Well, it's been closed. I think.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think just Even if it's. When people are talking about nominations, I've just not heard it.
Mickey Jo Theatre
People say if Gutenberg gets any nominations, it should be for these.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, it should be for the performance.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Because I really liked the show, but it was elevated so much by Josh and Andrew. It was all about Josh and Andrew. And I think they should both get leading actor in a musical. Tony nominations.
Rebecca Frecknell
The person that I kind of would like to. I would love to get one.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
But I don't. But I feel like it's their counterpart that's guaranteed. It is Dorian for a Notebook.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I mean, I would love that because.
Rebecca Frecknell
There'S the two of them.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I would love all six in the.
Rebecca Frecknell
Notebook, especially in the older categories. I'm like. Like, it's the two of them.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Dorian Heyward is so good.
Rebecca Frecknell
It's like it's not just Myron Plunkett, it's him as well. So I'm like, ah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And they're so codependent on stage that you couldn't have that performance without the other. But then that's what the speeches always exactly give credit to. Like, there is no one of these creative elements that exists in a vacuum outside of all of the other things. So I'm gonna push you for a list of five. I'm saying Jonathan Groff, Eddie Redmayne, Josh Gadd, Andrew Reynolds, Brian Darcy James. Because I hate young talent. Apparently they have many years ahead of them to get Tony nominations. I think. I think it's going to be those five.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it's gonna be. Let me remind myself, I think it's gonna be.
Mickey Jo Theatre
You think Brian.
Rebecca Frecknell
Be Brian Tossy James, Eddie Redmayne, Jonathan. Jonathan Groff, the lead guy in who's.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Tommy, Whose name we forgotten. Apologies to that man.
Rebecca Frecknell
And I think the final one.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Brody.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it could be Brody Ring.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Because I think it really could. I'm not saying it couldn't.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think so. I think that's the person I'm gonna go for.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Let's. Let's move on because that was unexpected.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. I think that. Sorry, that last spot, I think it's gonna be Chip Sign.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, you think Chip?
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I mean, I would jump up and down with joy, but let's move on because that was harder than I anticipated it. Being leading actress in a musical. As the days go by, I am more and more confident about not only a nomination, but a win for Marianne Plunkett.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Like, there was a moment where I was like, I hope she gets in. Now I'm like, is it hers to lose?
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Is it Marianne Plunkett's to lose? So Marianne Plunkett from the Notebook, who, per the ruling, is the only leading actress in the Notebook, which I think is correct.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah, I think so. I think heavy arcs will work.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
The other characters are kind of the smaller versions of her as through line the whole way.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Kelly O'Hara.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yes. I think maybe even Overzado.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Well, okay, so after Kelly O'Hara, there's two different groups. You have the young, rising talents in Hell's Kitchen, in the Wiz, and then you have good performances in shows that are not necessarily going to get many nominations outside of those. Eva Eden in Limpeaka. I think Eden's probably still going to get one because it's a massive role. But there's this question mark over how many nominators got to actually see her.
Rebecca Frecknell
Because she's had time off.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Well, she was off at those performances when they were Trying to get nominators in. So that could be a logistical problem, which is an awful reason for someone not to get a Tony nomination.
Rebecca Frecknell
I feel like Shane is gonna get nominations in the creative writing categories more than for the performance.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I have another one. Who is it? Gail Rankin. Where again, like, wasn't reviewed as well, but it's still Sally Bowles and a cabaret revival. And it would still take a lot for her to not get a nomination. So on those five again, I think I just hate young people because I went Marianne Plunkett, Gail Rankin, Eden, Kelly O'Hara and Eva.
Rebecca Frecknell
That's kind of where I landed.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And not the Wiz and not Hell's Kitchen. But if I was putting money on it, I'd say we will see one of either the Wizard, Hell's Kitchen's leads. Yeah, I think we probably will, but I don't.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it'd be the Hell's Kitchen one, I think.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I don't know who you lose from this. I hope it's not Eva. I hope Eva does get recognition for her performance in the Great Gatsby. Anything else you would like to add to that?
Rebecca Frecknell
No, I don't think so.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Lovely.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh, the left field. The real left field would be if Mackenzie Curtis got it.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I would be thrilled. I would be thrilled because against Sally Bowles and Daisy and the Great Gatsby and like quirky on the Notebook. To win. To. Not to win, but to get nominated for a comedy performance and a really.
Rebecca Frecknell
Good one and in a leading role because normally the quirky comedy roles are supported.
Mickey Jo Theatre
That would bring a huge smile to my face, honestly. And you'll have to. Again, just frequent reminder, you will have to join us live on Tuesday from 2pm UK time. From 9am US time to follow along and watch the Tony nominations with us and watch our reactions so you can see if that happens. I'm excited and scared about it. To quote into the Woods.
Rebecca Frecknell
So supporting.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. Featured actor in a musical, I think Paul Nolan from Water for Elephants.
Rebecca Frecknell
Paul Alexander Nolan.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes, I know. I skipped that part. Paul Alexander Nolan from Water for Elephants.
Rebecca Frecknell
Ellifield could be Roger Bart for Back to the Future.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I had him on my list when it was six. And then our good friend and landlady Ashley Hufford let me know that it was probably only going to be five. Unless there was a tie, maybe. Listen, if there's any category, I hope there's six and it's leading actor because we've just discovered there are a lot that there are a lot that there are a Lot. So Paul Alexander Nolan could be much apart.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think the supporting role in. Well, I think Daniel Radcliffe's a lot.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Daniel Radcliffe is a lock. I may sneeze.
Rebecca Frecknell
Carry on and oh, name Herschelz.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Steven Skybell. Yeah, Steven Skybell. I have Steven Skybell written here. I have Daniel Radcliffe written here.
Rebecca Frecknell
I wonder if Bangkok could get in for Illinois.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think so. I think so. Because I got to the end and I was like. I haven't said any of the Illinois cars.
Rebecca Frecknell
So the two people that I think is the two from is will be leading Mel and leading supporter and supporter mill for the two. Because I think they're the. They are the roles.
Mickey Jo Theatre
They are the roles. And I agree. But leading actor is.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think there's a higher chance because the thing that stays with you from Illinois is the scene in the tower. And that would be them. Ben Cook.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes. Yes, yes. No, I agree with you.
Rebecca Frecknell
I would like Conrad, Rick Mora together.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I have such a fondness for Heal I love and for how to dance in Ohio. Both shows that I thought really won me. Really won me over but like had their issues. But if there's two really great things that came out of those, it was Conrad, Rickamura and Liam. And I really hope that one or both of those get nominated in this category. But it is, it's. It's probably Daniel Radcliffe's to lose, which would also be nice because he's been passed over for nomination entirely before. So that. That may not feel like a win because he's such an obvious lock for it, but it is a win nonetheless and it's deserved. And he's just. He's just a lovely.
Rebecca Frecknell
Amazing, innit? Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Featured actress in a musical then. And this, I warn you, is a bloodbath.
Rebecca Frecknell
There's like two for multiple shows that I could say.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So the two biggest locks are PB.
Rebecca Frecknell
Neweth and Lindsay Mendes.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes, it is going to be BB.
Rebecca Frecknell
Versus Bebe, 100% down cage fight to the death.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I mean, when's the last time a Fraulein Schneider didn't not only get nominated but win? That often is what happens either side of the Atlantic when Cabaret is produced or revived. And Lindsay Mendes has been talked about all season long.
Rebecca Frecknell
She's won a Tony before, so that's.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Maybe the greatest part of Merrily. And she's got even better of a chance now that they've put her in featured. I actually think Lindsay and Daniel should probably, probably both be in leading because there's such bit. Well, maybe not Daniel. Lindsay I think should be in leading, there's such big roles that it's the weighing those against some of these other features.
Rebecca Frecknell
The one who am I getting from a left field. Well, not really left field. It's. It's. It's a beloved part. Who's one featured before is Leslie Rodriguez. Kutzer for Krista Rodriguez.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Leslie Rodriguez. Yeah. Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think Leslie's, like, possibly likely for featured.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Not on if. I originally thought she was still not on my list.
Rebecca Frecknell
Interesting.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But I do have Keisha Evans from oh, yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
And Shoshana Bean. If. But Keisha's more likely. I think out of a two.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think absolutely one of them. One or both of Keisha and Shoshana from Hell's Kitchen.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think Hell's Kitchen. And we'll definitely see Hell's Kitchen and Suffs in that category.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I will get to Suffs.
Rebecca Frecknell
And then Amber Amon. Maybe for Lempicka.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah. I think I had to take her out of my list at the last minute. I don't know. We didn't see Amber Aman.
Rebecca Frecknell
No, we didn't. So we in the show specifically, our.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Judgment there is clouded. But everyone has been saying to us, Amber's gonna get a Tony nomination. Joy Woods.
Rebecca Frecknell
Joy woods was phenomenal.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I didn't say John Cardoza in the last one, but I did think it's Joy woods. And then you get to Suffs. And I joked after we saw it, I said, I need a new category at the Tonys this year. I need featured actor in a musical, featured actress in a musical, and featured actress in Suffs because I am not kidding when I tell you I could populate an entire category with the cast of Suffs because Jen Colella deserves a nomination. Emily Skinner deserves a nomination. Nikki M. James deserves a nomination. Hannah Cruz deserves a nomination. More of them deserve, like, they're so good. They are so good.
Rebecca Frecknell
Do you know what's funny about it? I just was thinking, like, shows that have closed.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
And like, it's sad how long ago it was because Julie Benko gave a crazy. A wonderful performance in Harmony. But it's been so.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And the supporting men. In Harmony.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah. Because of when it closed.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I know. I know. This is the problem with it all about timing. This is what incentivizes these shows to all open in the last.
Rebecca Frecknell
Because those shows just get lost in the.
Mickey Jo Theatre
In the last five minutes. But it's not mutually beneficial to all of them all opening at this time because you get situations like this thing with Eden and Lempicka where we don't know if the nominators even got to see her in the show. So she may not get nominated on technicality, which is the worst thing ever. But if you could only have two nominees from Suffs, featured actress in the musical, who would they be?
Rebecca Frecknell
Nicky Andreas and Jenn Colella.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Not Hannah Cruise? No, I think mine. I think it's probably will be Nikki and Jane Colella.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think Jen just has so much. And it's the nuance. I think it's the nuance of her being so one way. And then when she gets. And then how she is, then towards the end, you get this beautiful, gorgeously done arc and she does it with such skill that you never lose. You. You get the movement of this one character the whole way through, rather than it being like two different characters.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I also want to retroactively go back and say Grace maclean, add it to my list of stuffs people. But you know what Gianculella is in this show? Do you know what she is? Mother. She's mother. Yeah, she is mother.
Rebecca Frecknell
She's kind of like how in Sylvia. For British people that watch Sylvia.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yes.
Rebecca Frecknell
She's that level of a big enough character. Beverly Knight was assembling Pankhurst for your leg. She not a lead. Okay, maybe not.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah. And again, it's one of those, like Lindsay Mendes where it's like, it's a really big featured part, which helps.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
But if you could only have one Suffs nominee, who would it be? Probably Nicki M. James is mine as well. I agree. And that's who I have on my list.
Rebecca Frecknell
Cheers. Wait, my turn is like.
Mickey Jo Theatre
It's so good. She's so good in it.
Rebecca Frecknell
The moment.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah, she's so good. So the last thing we have to talk about then is writing. In musical theatre, we have best score, best original score, book and orchestrations. Right. So I think best original score. The thing people have been saying about this is that Stereophonic could make its way into this category. And it's been such a strong year for original scores that I would get mad because often when the plays make their way into musicals categories, which happens all the time in London, I get annoyed, but I would not be annoyed in this instance. I don't think it will win when they were saying that. I think that's people just getting excited about, like, grooving and stuff. I don't think it'll win. I don't think it has enough material to win, but I think it would be a fun nomination.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it'll get nominated.
Mickey Jo Theatre
What are the scores? Do you Think we will Sufs. Suffs. Okay. So stereophonic Suffs.
Rebecca Frecknell
Days of Wine and Roses.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Days of Wine and Roses. I. So Hell's Kitchen not eligible.
Rebecca Frecknell
No.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I wonder if we will see a nomination for her Lies. Love.
Rebecca Frecknell
Potentially. I think the only thing with her l Love is because actually it's existed for so long.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
Whether people just forget that it's classed.
Mickey Jo Theatre
As new, I think that might get in over a Lempicka. And they both do quite a contemporary thing while I'm here. Lempicka Orchestrations.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Hands down.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah. The outside one would be like a harmony nom for Barry Mandalow, but that's more of like a legacy or Ohio thing.
Mickey Jo Theatre
And I know a few great songs does not a strong score make, but some of those Ohio songs are the best songs of the year.
Rebecca Frecknell
My Left. My. My kind of one, though, if we. If we talking like. Like, even names or anything, then I'd go the Notebook with Ingram Michaelson.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Sure. I mean, I say the same thing where it's like a few good songs don't make do Not a strong score make, but it's not the strongest year for scores.
Rebecca Frecknell
And it's more of a. Like Shook to have got a nomination for the score.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
Even if it only had. If only that song, then the rest of the songs were like, okay, but that song is the song.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Are you talking about if this is love? Yeah, if this is love. I'm not ready.
Rebecca Frecknell
Like, I think it's. Which ones. I think in this kind of year, it's like, what will stick with people, do you think?
Mickey Jo Theatre
The Outsiders.
Rebecca Frecknell
That's my rogue one, but I. I think the Outsiders will get book.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Sure. So let's seamlessly go into book, then. So the Outsiders.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think the Notebook could.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh. Oh, absolutely.
Rebecca Frecknell
Notebooks, guy. Stunning book suffs. Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Water for Elephants.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think Water for Elephants. Its book is stronger than its score. That's why we didn't mention it in the last one. We didn't say great Gatsby for score.
Rebecca Frecknell
I don't even. I think it's. I think it's an outside shot.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I think it's a bigger shot than the Notebook.
Rebecca Frecknell
Maybe. I think. I think with Gray Gatsby, it's more set and spectacle.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Sure. I don't think Gatsby for book necessarily. I don't think Lempicka for book necessarily.
Rebecca Frecknell
Maybe Hell's Kitchen for book.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Oh, Hell's Kitchen for book. Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
Days of Wind and Roses, I guess, is the other one.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I still don't know. I did think about that.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it's more school.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I would. I mean, we're. I'm sort of transitioning into what I want to happen rather than what actually will. Because I was about to say harmony is deserving, but I don't know.
Rebecca Frecknell
I think it's this. How long have they been gone for? How much of the books and stuff. Because book can be sometimes forgotten about how you feel about the book and what the writing was. Whereas you can easily go back and, like, somebody could go back now and recap on the scores and it would remind them how they felt about it when they watched it. Because you got the cast recordings. They're going to be coming out.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Do you want to throw some orchestrations out there? I've already said something. Help me. Help me. You heard me. What was it?
Rebecca Frecknell
Lempicka.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Thank you. I've already said Lempicka. And I will also add to that Days of Wine and Roses.
Rebecca Frecknell
He wouldn't show me if Merrill. Like, if Cabaret or Merrily.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Got it. Probably Cabaret and Merrily. But there was another one I was thinking of. Oh, Tommy.
Rebecca Frecknell
That's. That was one I was thinking of.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I still haven't circled back to the other one that I had. Carry on without me. What was the other one? Oh, Hell's Kitchen.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
That's six.
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
So if anyone could make any sense of that.
Rebecca Frecknell
Oh. Or Illinois.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Illinois. That's such a good point.
Rebecca Frecknell
Because the band were the moment for me.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
And the vocal harmonies. Because that obviously didn't exist with.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah.
Rebecca Frecknell
With the album.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I feel like. I mean, big picture thoughts, like categories we need moving forwards. Best featured elephant in a musical. Or just generally a better way to acknowledge Patrick. Best rain on stage. Most unexpected Nazi plot twist. That's.
Rebecca Frecknell
You're not helping yourself with.
Mickey Jo Theatre
I know. I'm saying all the wrong words, aren't I? I think we're just about done there. Hopefully you were able to follow that.
Rebecca Frecknell
These were ramblings.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Yeah. And it's. Because it's a very challenging year for predictions. We have a clearer sense of it.
Rebecca Frecknell
I feel like with Plays as front runners and Plays, it's a bit more easy to be like. This is. You can kind of go the whole way through and basically be like, I think these people will win because just the momentum. Whereas with the musicals, it feels very. Other than Merrily being like Merrily. Feeling like it's got a lot more drive. Because Cabaret wasn't received as strongly and people were like, oh, it's gonna be Cabaret. And it's like, gone back to. Well, Merrily is.
Mickey Jo Theatre
Can I ask a summary question?
Rebecca Frecknell
Yeah.
Mickey Jo Theatre
What are the names of shows you think we are gonna hear the most on Tuesday?
Rebecca Frecknell
Plays, stereophonic, appropriate. And then musicals. I think we'll hear.
