Hey parents, if you are listening, stay tuned in. This special announcement is for you also and kids. If your parent or caregiver is not listening, press pause and ask them to come listen with you. Have you ever used a magnifying lens to look at a beetle flower or caterpillar up close? What happens when you look through a magnifying lens? You get to see the creature or the plant much closer and notice all of its wonderful details. One day I saw a large bright red beetle on a milkweed plant in our yard. It was a milkweed beetle. I leaned in close and placed a magnifying glass in front of it. I could see all the different segments or pieces of its six legs, including what looked like tiny claws on its feet. I observed nine segments on each of its long curled antenna. I looked at the pattern on its red wings and could count six black dots on the front and seven black shapes on the main part of its body. Another day I looked through a magnifying lens at a sunflower and I saw thousands of tiny individual florets at its center center. As I looked at the single sunflower that was in front of me, I was actually seeing thousands of flowers on one flower head. This is called a composite flower and I was able to see this with the help of my magnifying lens. Looking at nature's details is very fun. As we get to glimpse God's creativity, we can see how wise he is as he made every creature and plant with exquisite detail and precision. God is the greatest artist, inventor, designer and engineer. You see, magnifying does not only mean looking closely at something. There is another meaning of the word magnify and that is to praise and worship. As we look closely at God's creation, we magnify and worship our Creator God. Psalm chapter 3 says, oh, magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together. Have you ever wanted to learn how to see nature's details up close? Or to become a junior naturalist looking for God's fingerprints in nature? You kids are already very good at this. God made you with curious minds and a heart to seek Him. If you are like my kids, you get excited when you see a roly poly earthworm or a flower you have never seen before. But did you know that we can practice seeing things in nature? It's kind of like a muscle that we can use and make stronger. As we practice seeing nature's details, we will see more and more of God's designs. Well, guess what? This summer we invite your family to join us on a grand adventure called Magnify.
