On this episode of the Roundtable Wellness podcase, I interviewed Jayne, a marketing professional at the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, about how creativity has impacted her mental health, particularly following the devastating July 4th flood in Kerr County that killed many people and caused widespread destruction. Jayne shared how she rediscovered the importance of creativity through making handmade thank you cards for colleagues and partners, especially after receiving guidance from Marissa at Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute about using creativity to enrich mental health during stressful times. She explained how creating personalized cards not only boosted the recipients' day but also provided her with a mental health benefit and perspective shift, describing it as a "boomerang" effect where giving encouragement lifted both the giver and receiver. Jayne also discussed how the Community Foundation has distributed over $150 million in flood relief funds and continues to support mental health services for survivors through their RebuildKerr.org website, emphasizing that the recovery efforts will continue for years to come.

Natalie and Jollie discussed their personal experiences with health and fitness, including weight loss journeys and health challenges, which led to their shared mission of helping others improve their lives. They explored the importance of nutrition, exercise, and community support in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The conversation touched on various aspects of wellness, including the connection between lifestyle choices and chronic diseases, and the value of setting realistic goals and embracing failure as a means of growth. They also discussed the challenges of insurance coverage for children with autism, the emotional journey of a mother fighting for her child's therapies, and the importance of early intervention and alternative therapies. The conversation ended with a discussion on the challenges and triumphs of raising a child with unique needs and the need for empathy and kindness towards all individuals.
