Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Work. With his faithful Indian companion, Tonto, the masked rider of the plains led the fight for law and order in the early western United States. Outlaws and renegades, rustlers and road agents learned to fear his strength and courage. The stories of his daring and resourcefulness were told around a thousand campfires and high O Silver came to be the battle cry of justice on the frontier. Return with us now to those thrilling days when the west was young. From out of the past come the thundering hoof beats of the great horse. Silver. The Lone Ranger rides again.
Sheriff
Come on, Silver. There's going to be trouble. We've got to hurry. Hail, Silver. Hawaii.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Taking advantage of the blackness of the night, two horsemen rode slowly toward the Lazy Y corral. The bunkhouse some distance beyond the corral was dark and silent.
Sheriff
It'll be the dickens to pay if more hasty was to wake up and see her stealing one of her horses. Slip out of your saddle and follow me. I got my rope.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Which one should I last to?
Sheriff
First we get inside the corral. Doggone gate creeps like a whaling catamount. Which horse? Gotta pick out one that can't be mistook.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Yeah.
Sheriff
I want to fix Tex Hanlon so everybody'll be certain sure he stole this horse. How about that black? You couldn't tell him from any other. Here's the one. That sorrel horse with a blaze on his forehead. Yeah. Spread your rope. Start him, ser. Sheriff. I'll rope the sorrel when he comes by. Get up there now. Get him. Right, Sheriff. Snap the rope around the kemper. Got it. He's roped. I'll hold him taut. Quick, in the silence.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Ruble.
Sheriff
Here's your rope head. That horse protects Hanlon's outfit. I'll close the gate behind you.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Kind of.
Sheriff
Sheriff. All fixed to go. We didn't wait to live in soul either. You travel, huh? Ain't going with Me to put this horse in with Hanlon's herd. Of course I ain't. I'm going to rouse up more hasty in the lazy white cowhands. I'm going to tell the horse thief has been at their corral. Oh, I savvy, Sheriff. You roust them out and tell them it was Hanlon took the saw horse, huh? I won't have to say it was Hanlon, but I'll see to it they follow your trail. And that trail's going to lead straight to Tex Hanlon. Now start traveling. By the time you and More Hasty and the boys bust in on Hanlon, I'll have the horse planted and be gone. Shoulder sl, Sheriff. Get up there slick as a whistle. Yeah, I'll get Tex hand and hang for horse stealing. And all his horses will belong to me as sheriff of the county. Well, I reckon Jubal's got enough a head start. Better rouse up a lazy y.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Come on.
Sheriff
Hey, more hasty. You om Turn out horse feet. Turn out more hasty. More hasty. It's me than the sheriff waking folks
Jubal
up in the middle of the night. You're plum fortunates didn't get your head tore off. Our shot.
Sheriff
Grab your horses. You men saddle up. There's a horse thief loose.
Jubal
What's that? A horse th in my carel I seen him.
Sheriff
I don't know who he was, but he lit out that way. He left a party, Sheriff, you're correct.
Jubal
There ain't no ornery, two legged armory can steal. More haste these horses. Come on, you lazy Y riders. Get your guns and saddle up. We're going after that thing.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You went ahead to take a look at that that ranch laying out. What's the trouble? Plenty trouble, kimosabe. Me creep up close, hear plenty talk. Them horse thief. Horse thieves. Here, Silver. What's the rest of it, fellas? Lazy y Horse taken from Corel, Sheriff.
Sheriff
Another feller.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Them bad men miss Sheriff. A horse thief? That's right. Him send other fellow with horse. Make it look like man named Hanlon Steel Horse. I see. All right, Hunter. Looks like you and I. What matter horses along the gully. Listen. How are you heard? There's no time to waste. What you said is true, Tex. Hamlin may soon be swinging at the end of a rope for a horse he didn't steal. Ah, that make trouble for him now that we've got to get to Hamlin's place before that posse. Well, head along this side of the ridge so we can't be seen. Come on, Silver. Head him up.
Jubal
Scull.
Sheriff
Silver. Away.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Hand them.
Sheriff
All right, mister. I got a gun pointing right at
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
you and the engine pods. Speak your feet. All right, you hear us? Come. Huh? I heard some noise before, so I got out of the bunk.
Sheriff
That's how come I was ready for you. What do you want here?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Hannah? We've come to warn you. There's a posse of lazy wire riders coming here. They think you're a horse thief. Horse thief? But you're local. Where's your herd of horses? Right yonder, mister, in the corral. Have you looked at it lately? Huh? That noise you heard before. Must have been when the real horse thief left a lazy wye horse in your corral. I don't believe it. And you'd better take a look. That posse will be here, Prado. All right, mister. I'll take a look. See?
Sheriff
It sure sounds like a local yarn to me.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
There's a corral even on the moon. It don't look like the percent of them Rome. All I gotta do is. What in handle is that? Your branding iron? No, it ain't mine. Hey, let me get it. Hey, it's still hot. That's a running iron handling kind used by rustlers to change one brand into another. It ain't mine, mister. Maybe you ain't local after all. Oh, that horse there. Huh? The sorrel horse with a blaze on his forehead. Tunder. That one me see. Well, I'll be.
Sheriff
Mister, that ain't one of my string of horses.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
That's a lazy y horse handling. Some owner of your coyote brung them here.
Sheriff
Changed a brand of mine and left
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
him in my palmunch. What are you going to do? That posse's coming.
Sheriff
I ain't no horse thief.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Let him come. If they find that horse handling, you go to jail. Maybe you get hanged.
Sheriff
Engine, I ain't hanging for no horse.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I didn't steal.
Sheriff
And furthermore, obliged as I am to you, mister, I ain't running out neither.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Don't be a fool, Hanlon. You haven't a chance.
Sheriff
I'm staying.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Oh, him. Stubborn like bull. All right, Hanlon. If you won't get that horse out of here, then Tado and I will. Open the corral. Sando, let's get that sorrel. And it too late they come. The posse from the Lazy W. We tried to help you. Now there isn't time for anything.
Sheriff
Quick, we get way.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Helen. Are you staying, mister, I am. I ain't no horse thief and nobody's making me vamoose. Very well. Time to head for the hills. All right, you come too. No, Kimasabi. I'm staying here. You stay, they put you in jail, too. I'm seeing.
Sheriff
Mister, I can handle this myself.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You're talking, big hand. You haven't a chance of handling it by yourself. Do as I say, T. Head to the hills out of your son.
Sheriff
T. Do what you say.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
How do you always.
Sheriff
Get him up, scout.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
All right, Hanlon, better start thinking what to say. Here comes the posse. Well, Sheriff, what's your ruckus?
Sheriff
Alan, who's this gent with you?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I never seen him before, Sheriff.
Jubal
Sheriff, that's my horse that saw him with a blaze. And look here, Brandon, I. Yeah.
Sheriff
A couple of you boys rope that horse and bring him over so we can see the brand. Tex, you and your friends stand right still. This gun in my hand might take an ocean to go off. Savvy?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Oh, I didn't rustle that horse.
Jubal
Ain't nothing lower than a horse these Tex Hamlin.
Sheriff
Nothing, mister. You ain't saying much.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I prefer to watch, Cheryl.
Sheriff
Yeah, well, watch while more hasty takes a look at the brand on this here sorrel horse.
Jubal
Keep your gun on him, Sheriff.
Sheriff
Every gun in this posse's pointing at him.
Jubal
All well, Sheriff, I demand that you arrest Tex Hamlin for horse stealing. That's my horse. And the brand's been changed less than an hour ago.
Sheriff
You can't arrest me. I cannot Helen you, mister.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Talking to me?
Sheriff
We want to see what you look like under that hat.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Brim.
Sheriff
Take off that hat. Well, listen, this gen ain't got nothing to do with his.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Never mind, Hanlon. I'll take my hat off.
Sheriff
Gosh, mister, I didn't know you was masked. You didn't know? Don't try to fool us, Hanlon, for more. I reckon this sort of puts the clincher on it. Any jet that travels with a masked man can't be anything but a horse dealer.
Jubal
Sheriff, you better put him both in jail, Hamlin and the masked up to.
Sheriff
Are you going to stay in that calaboost till comes time to try in court? That day ain't far off neither, Sheriff.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Well, mister, I'm just wondering, Sheriff. What about Hamlin's string of horses?
Sheriff
What about them?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
What happens to those horses?
Sheriff
All of them is most likely stolen. Like that lazy Y horse. That's a dog car.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
None of you haven't answered me.
Sheriff
All right, mister, if you want to know so all fired bad I take care of those horses.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You sure?
Sheriff
Property of the prisoner becomes the property of the county. And being as I'm the Duly elected officer this here county. I reckon I get him. And the same goes for that white horse of yours too, mister.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
That ornery polecat. You should have taken my advice. It's too late for that now, mister. I can't figure why you didn't cut and run, though. I wanted to get a closer look at the sheriff.
Sheriff
He can't touch them horses.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
If you hang, there's no one to stop him. I'd like to see him touch silver, though. He had a real fight on his hands. Helen, I wanted to ask you. Yeah? There's something mighty familiar about that sheriff. I think I've seen him before. What's his name?
Sheriff
Drucker.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
How long has he been here? Sloped into town about three years ago, mister. I see. Was he by any chance riding a gray mare with a bullet clip? Right here? Hey, how did you know that's the horse.
Sheriff
He got rid of it plenty fast, though.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Yes, I imagine he did, mister.
Sheriff
What's up? Is it something about the sheriff?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
His name is not Drucker.
Sheriff
Well, what in tarnation is his name?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Never mind that now, Hanlon. But when the time comes, you'll find out. And the sheriff won't like it, not one bit.
Sheriff
Who went off as slick as a whisper, Sheriff. And that mask armory being there didn't hurt none either. He gives me the shivers. You go behind bars, ain't he? He's got a pair of eyes that look right through you. I don't like it, Sheriff. You don't think maybe he knows you before you come here? Shut up about that. But all I did.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Shut up.
Sheriff
How about trying to ride that white horse again? No, no, not me. That horse is pure dynamite. I ain't trying again and sell him unless he's broke.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Then you do it. Well, let it go for a while.
Sheriff
First thing is to get them two hanged and we can take our own good.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Well, Injun.
Sheriff
What are you staring at?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Not plenty good Horse vamoose.
Sheriff
Engine on your way, redskin.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Me go pronto. Me go. More dog gone.
Sheriff
Engine roaming around this territory.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Them try ride Silver. That plenty funny. Tonight, when darkness come, me go to jail. Tell friends. And listen.
Sheriff
That's black as pitch, mister. Sounds like somebody trained come for friends.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
T. I've been waiting for you. I knew you'd understand when I sent you away. Tanto understand. We got key for jail here, T.
Sheriff
Did you get a good look at the sheriff?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Huh? Him another fellow tried to ride Silver. Silver not let him. Listen, Kimi, the sheriff is going to try to bring us to trial. As fast as possible. Did you recognize the sheriff? Tell us. Carson Gap. Three year goal. I've got to get the Carson Gap, Tata.
Sheriff
Oh, here's Silver.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Silver? Him and Bank. No, Hammond, you're staying. Tata will stay in my place. The union is staying in my place.
Sheriff
Yes.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Unless I get to Carson Gap and back before the trial, it may be too late. You go. Not me. Super. Make journey fast. Somebody's me. I've got to hurry. Keep you back to the cell door, Tata. That'll give me a head start.
Sheriff
I'll be back. Injun. What's he talking about? How can you give him a head start? By keeping your back turned.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Somebody come you not make noise?
Sheriff
Oh, a few gents I heard talking. Huh? Thinking maybe you can. Hey, what's the key? Right in the line. I'll give that deputy a talking to for that. As long as you're both still inside. I guess you're nothing to worry about though. You're right in the lock and you didn't even know it.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Engine.
Sheriff
I get what you mean. The sheriff seen us in the dark and figured you was a mace man.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You listen, friend on horse now.
Sheriff
Sure hope he gets back from Carson G for the trial. Whatever he's going after.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
That's a long ride, Engine. A long ride. The curtain falls on the first act of our Lone Ranger story. Before the next exciting scenes, please permit us to pause for just a few moments.

Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Now to continue Our story. When Tex Hanlon was accused of horse stealing, the Lone Ranger allowed himself to be jailed with the wrangler. But that night, Tado took his place. The masked man started for Carson Gap the following morning. The sheriff walked toward the cell, took one look and.
Sheriff
What in tarnation?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You letting us out, Sheriff?
Sheriff
How'd that engine get in there?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
He come last night.
Sheriff
Where's the mask man? Reckon you ought to know, sir. Engine, answer me. Where's that mask?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Him go away last night. Me take him place.
Sheriff
All right, suit yourself. Engine, you stay in there anyways for helping the prisoner to escape. I reckon he put one over on you through your laughter. Now, Hannah, while you can. I'll see that you get the end of a rope mighty soon. Jubal. Jubal, where are you? Something gone wrong, Sheriff. Sonny, that mask on me's my moose, huh? Skedaddled. Run out. You recollect that engine we seen yesterday always trying to break the horses?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Yeah.
Sheriff
Well, he's in the jail to the masked man. Well, I'll get you mean. When I looked in last night, I seen two shadows in the dark. I figured certain was Hanlon and the mask man. And all the time it was the engine and Hanlon. The mask gent's gone. Ain't you got it through your thick head yet?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Long gone.
Sheriff
Huble, I found that key in a lock. Was that any of your doing?
Jubal
Me?
Sheriff
Answer me. Your retireer go. It worked. Me, I swear. Must have been the engine that took the key off the hook. Oh, yeah, I reckon so. Lions hunter didn't handle and the engine run out too. It don't make sense.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Unless.
Sheriff
Unless what, Sheriff? Maybe that Master Ombre knows, huh? Maybe he knows about three years ago at Carson Gap. You mean it's a trap? What else? The engine and handle stay here. The masked man goes off to bring proof of what you've done back in Carson Gap. Maybe you're right. Maybe. What are you staying out the door for, Sheriff? Look. That white horse ain't there no more. The masked man lit out. That proves it last night. I reckon you better get that trial started as soon as possible, Sheriff. I hope you don't have to make tracks out of town. Yeah, Jubal, we got to do some thinking. That masked fellow must be getting close to Carson's Gap right now.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Good horse, Silver. We're nearing Carson's Gap. Up this rise.
Sheriff
That's it.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Hold up, Silver. We stop here. There it is. Five miles ahead of us, old fellow. He covered the ground faster than ever before. Carson's Gap. And I want us down there, Silver. As soon as I put on this disguise, we're riding into town. There's the man we want, Silver. Right up beside him. Ragan. Marshall Rigan.
Marshal Rigan
Looking to be mister.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I've ridden a long way to get you, Marshall. Come in here for a moment between the buildings.
Marshal Rigan
All right, mister. Speak your fees, Marshall.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You're looking for a man named Benzer. Three years ago he rode out of here in a hurry, riding a gray with a twisted right ear. He'd been looking for him ever since.
Marshal Rigan
Mister, what do you know about Benzer?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You still want that man?
Marshal Rigan
Benzer Van Mooshed. He was wanted for everything. For stage robbery, to kill him. And we still want him.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I know where he is. But now he uses the name of Drucker.
Marshal Rigan
Drucker, Benzer. It's all the same. Whereat is this?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Meet me on the bluff outside of town. Just as soon as you can. Saddle your horse, Marshal. I'll take you to him.
Marshal Rigan
The bluff outside of town.
Sheriff
Waster.
Marshal Rigan
I don't know you from Adam. For all I know this might be an ambush.
Sheriff
But.
Marshal Rigan
Well, I used to taking chances. Give me a half hour. I'll see you on the bluff.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Hello.
Sheriff
Here's the meeting spot.
Marshal Rigan
Where is that gent?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You made fast time, Marshall.
Sheriff
Quickly.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I was waiting behind the clump of.
Marshal Rigan
Hey, what's the idea?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Don't slap leather, Marshal.
Marshal Rigan
You guns out already. Mister, you got the fastest draw I've ever seen. But you wasn't mashed in Carson's Gap.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I wore a disguise, Marshal. The sooner we stand after Benzer, the better.
Sheriff
Wait a second. That horse. You got a white horse and a
Marshal Rigan
man wearing a mask. The mask might be anybody, but I can jerk horse flesh there a reap. But one horse and all the west fits that one. You were The Lone Ranger, Mr. Horse of them guns. I'm riding with you. No need for questions.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Good. It's a long trip. Come on, Silver, get up there. The life of an innocent man depends on us, Marshal.
Marshal Rigan
Eat away, M. I'm right with you.
Sheriff
Come on, Silver. Oh, Silver.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Away.
Sheriff
What I want to say to you folks is we ought to have that trial as soon as we can. We got all the evidence we need. Again, Hanlon.
Jubal
What's the hurry, Sheriff? I got work to do on my ranch.
Sheriff
I can't.
Jubal
10 quarts a day and you got
Sheriff
to do it tomorrow. Sure. The sooner horse thief gets his hanging, the better it is all around.
Jubal
So long as it's according to the law.
Sheriff
Today we'll let pass. But Hannah's got to be tried tomorrow morning. I'm sheriff and I'm saying so.
Jubal
Tomorrow morning. Well, reckon I can make it Sheriff. That agreeable with you, Jen? All settled then. Now I'm ambled tomorrow morning early.
Sheriff
Now, all you get here. We gotta have a jury all proper.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
No.
Sheriff
None of you forget. Well, that's that Hugo Sheriff for you. Loco Mastjet has a mighty fast horse. The way to Carson's Gap and back by tomorrow mighty nigh impossible. Don't forget that horse has to travel both ways. But still she's Jubal. I got it figured. We can win either way. Even if he does get here, you have. You get your horse. You're riding? Yeah. I want you to keep watch, Jubal. If you get out on the rise just outside of town, you can see the trail from Carson's Gap for miles. As soon as you see that white horse, you head back. As fast as your horse can travel, you'll be here. Yeah. Getting ready to hold the trial. I'll see that Hanlon and the engine both get took care of without a trial. Just get out there and watch. I know what I'm doing. Mister.
Marshal Rigan
Mister, I can't keep up with you.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Keep riding, Marshall.
Sheriff
We'll keep on through the night and
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
reach the town soon after sunrise.
Marshal Rigan
My horse can't keep up with Silver. It ain't no horse can do it.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Marshall. I masked. Your authority is needed to arrest Benzer.
Sheriff
Keep up with me as long as you can.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
If I have to leave you behind, I'll do it.
Sheriff
But only if I have to get a Porsche. Hound the dust.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Come on, Silver. D isn't far away. And as the Lone Ranger and the Marshall raced along, Jubal waited near the town. The sky in the east turned from gray to red. The sun rose above the horizon and sent its light across the vast stretches of the prairie. And then.
Sheriff
That's them. That's the white horse. He's still miles away. But I gotta warn the sheriff. Get up.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
In the town. Jubal raced to the store, which was to serve as a courtroom. He whispered a few words in the sheriff's ear. The sheriff nodded and turned to Ma Hasty in the others.
Sheriff
You folks get ready for the trial. I'm going over to the calaboose and get the prisoner.
Jubal
They'll be waiting, Sheriff.
Sheriff
Jubal. Yeah? You stay here. The masked army and the gent with them show up. Start slinging leads. Abby, you drop them both. Both, Sheriff? I can do for the masked man, but the other can't. Maybe he's a Lawman, do like I tell you. Ain't nobody gonna prevent you from shooting a fella in a mask. As for the other one, you can always say he stopped the bullet. Accidental act. You can say. You got the arrange of fire.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I get you.
Sheriff
I'm heading for the calibers. Hanlon and the engine won't never come to trial. I told you my scheme. It's a slick one for sure. I'll stay right here. Be sure you shoot first. Don't worry. I'll pull trigger as soon as I see that mask. Come on. Hey, who's in? Two riders.
Jubal
See that? Looks like the mask man.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Leave your gun on the ground.
Marshal Rigan
Nobody draw.
Sheriff
We got you covered, Mr. Day.
Jubal
Nobody going to draw like Jubilee. No man can stand again, Lightning.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
None of you trust me. But you're going to when you hear the man who came with me.
Sheriff
They're outlaws.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Both of them.
Sheriff
R for your guns. Give them what for. You do one more word for me.
Jubal
What's all about? Who is other gen?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
His name is Radan. He's the United States Marshal.
Jubal
United States Marshal?
Marshal Rigan
Yes. A marriage man brung me from Carson's Gap. I come here to arrest your sheriff. Trucker isn't his real name. He's a killer named Benzie. He's been wanted for three years. Here's the papers, all about it.
Jubal
Marshall. This clears things up considerable. No wonder the sheriff was in such an awful hurry to get Hanlon hanged.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
The sheriff and Jubal stole that horse. They made Hanlon take the blame so the sheriff could get Hanlon's horses and make money on them.
Sheriff
He got me bass, man. But I ain't no killer. I just done like Ben Jose.
Marshal Rigan
Better save that for the trial, you sneaking coyote.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Where's the sheriff now?
Jubal
He went to the jailhouse to fetch a prisoner.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Mister.
Sheriff
Mister, if I tell you something, will you go easy on me?
Marshal Rigan
It depends.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
You keep looking down the street. Jubal. What is it? Out with it, Benzo.
Sheriff
He's aiming to kill Hanlon.
Marshal Rigan
Of the injury.
Jubal
He can't do that.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
How?
Sheriff
How? He's letting them both out. Savvy? When he gets them out of the jailhouse, he'll have a gun on him. He's going to shoot him in the back and claim they tried to escape.
Jubal
What?
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Come on.
Sheriff
Silver arrested your body. Hurry, Silver. Hurry. All right, Hanlon.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Injun.
Sheriff
You're going on trial. Walk ahead of me, slow. Open that door, Hanlon. It's a long walk to the court, but don't try nothing. I know all about you, Sheriff. The engine Told me you and Juba done that horse dealing.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
I reckon.
Sheriff
Then I gotta take care of both of you. Just keep walking.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
We not try to get away.
Sheriff
I got a gun, Injun. You and Hanlon ain't got guns. I'm gonna take care of both of you right now. You think pull can't. You won't even know when it comes neither. Why don't you start running? Start running? He's gonna shoot.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
We gotta run for this. No.
Sheriff
We not run Him Wanna run? All right then. Have it your own way. Run or not as you please. But it looks like you started to. I'm gonna shoot you like it's the mask man.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Get his gun cut up. He won't get away. Do you come past? Mister, you saved our hide.
Sheriff
This rattlesnake was gonna shoot us in the back.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
He'll do no more shooting. Helen. Stand still. Sheriff.
Jubal
The Max man got the sheriff. He got him.
Sheriff
Hannah, you all right? He ain't hurt. The last man saved us.
Narrator (Lone Ranger story)
Marshall. I'll turn this criminal over to you. He's your prisoner.
Marshal Rigan
Vincey. You're under arrest. You're coming back to Carson's Gap to stand trial.
Sheriff
Now, wait a minute.
Marshal Rigan
You don't have to say nothing. You will Sid plenty.
Jubal
Yeah. And if you want to know who just shot the gun from your hand. The marshal just told us the masked man you tried to beat is the Lone Ranger and Mr. Day. Nobody can beat the Lone Ranger, Sam.

This episode of Old Time Radio Westerns features a classic Lone Ranger adventure titled "A Horse Changes Brands." Through digital restoration, listeners are transported into a rich sonic landscape of the Old West, where justice rides fast, and betrayal waits in the shadows. This drama unravels a clever plot to frame an innocent ranch hand for horse theft, only to be thwarted by the courage and resourcefulness of the iconic masked hero and his loyal companion, Tonto.
The episode is classic Western melodrama: brisk, suspenseful, and marked by the straightforward heroism of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Characters speak in clipped, evocative language laced with frontier slang (“Doggone gate creeps like a whaling catamount”). The Lone Ranger remains calm and logical, while the villains’ desperation grows as justice closes in.
"A Horse Changes Brands" exemplifies the Lone Ranger’s unwavering commitment to justice and fair play. Through daring, wit, and partnership with Tonto, he exposes the real villains lurking behind the law’s badge. This episode blends suspense, action, and the iconic trappings of radio’s golden age, dramatically restored for a new generation of listeners.
