Narrator
Now, the Cisco Kid in our gripping story Avalanche in Arrow Pass. In the early days of the west and of the building of the railroad, law and order was sometimes a hit or miss affair with law enforcement officials hastily and unwisely chosen. So it was that Joe Metz, private railroad marshal of Construction Camp 16, was unwisely chosen. As our story opens, Metz, together with a deputy, Hal Schaff, is riding up into Arrow Pass. It is spring, but the winter snows lie heavy in the path.
Mitts
But if we're going to kill that table rider anyway, Mitts, why don't we do it up ahead in the pass?
Shoaff
Because too many people go through Arrow Pass, that's why. Sooner or later they'd find clues, and we don't want them to find them. We'll dynamite down snow and rocks into the pass. That'll force O'Connor to ride around by Wigwam Creek. And that's where we'll waylay him.
Mitts
He's carrying a $50,000 payroll, huh?
Shoaff
Yeah, that's right. Shoaff the camp's back along the line. But those camps will never see that money. And this looks like a good spot to set off that blast. Bring that dynamite, Shaw.
Mitts
Yeah, yeah, I got it.
Shoaff
Look at the way that snow overhangs the ledges and bluffs. Sure won't take much to start that going. One stick up by that big ledge ought to do it.
Mitts
Should I let her up?
Shoaff
Yeah, and then throw it up here.
Mitts
All right, here she goes, Mitts.
Shoaff
Now throw it way up. Come on, let's get back to our horses and get ready to get out of here.
Mitts
Maybe that wet snow will put out the fuse.
Shoaff
I don't think it will, son. Don't get at that ledge up there where you threw it. There she goes. Look at the snow and rocks slammed down into that pass. O'Connor couldn't even fly over that. Come on, let's get over to Wigwam Creek.
Pancho
Hey, is that old pass just ahead, Sisco?
Cisco Kid
See, Pancho? And after we get through the pass, it will only be a short way to come. 16.
Pancho
And then we see Senior Wolford, the super. The su. The super what?
Cisco Kid
That word, Chisco, the superintendent. Chico, the construction superintendent of the camp.
Pancho
Two big words in a row.
Cisco Kid
Too big for Pancho, anyway. You get the idea, Pancho.
Pancho
Pancho, get the idea.
Cisco Kid
Now, we're just entering the pass, amigo, and, well, there's a rider just Ahead.
Pancho
Of us, he carry two bags, see?
Cisco Kid
Mail pouches.
Pancho
Mail pouches.
Cisco Kid
Looks to me, Pancho, as if the senor's a payroll rider. And madre mia. Look at the pass, huh? It's blocked with rocks and snow.
Pancho
Oh, it's a big abalone. Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Let us speak to the rider.
Pancho
Pancho.
Cisco Kid
Buenos dio.
Wolford
That's near enough.
Pancho
Keep your distance, senor. Go.
Cisco Kid
As you wish, senor. I was only going to ask if we could ride with you to Camp 16.
Wolford
How do you know I'm going to Camp 16?
Cisco Kid
Because that is the first camp over the pass. I don't know who you hombres are, but I'm taking no chances.
Wolford
Keep away from me.
Cisco Kid
See?
Pancho
Hombres not like us.
Wolford
Cisco, pack up your horses so I can get by.
Cisco Kid
If you wish, senor, we will help you clear away some of those rocks so you can get through.
Wolford
I ain't asking any help.
Cisco Kid
I'll ride around the other way.
Wolford
Pack up them horses.
Cisco Kid
Diablo, back, loco.
Pancho
Back. Back. Back, loco.
Cisco Kid
Back.
Pancho
Back.
Narrator
Now, remember, you umbers keep.
Cisco Kid
If I see you following me, I'll open up with this rifle. Yep.
Pancho
He not like us even one little bitty bit. Just go. He scowled like anything. No.
Cisco Kid
Oh, he's not so much that he did not like us, Pancho.
Wolford
No.
Cisco Kid
He has to be suspicious of everyone he does not know.
Wolford
Bye.
Cisco Kid
Bye. Bye.
Pancho
Bye.
Cisco Kid
Now that we are here, let us rest our horses for a while before we take the trail around by Wigwam Creek.
Mitts
Hello.
Shoaff
Yeah, this is a spot right here, Shoff. Among these trees.
Mitts
Yeah. What if that payroll rider don't come this way?
Shoaff
He's got to come this way in order to get to Camp 16. The only other trail there is. When he comes around the bend of.
Mitts
The trail, we'll get him $50,000. I can sure use that slice of that.
Shoaff
Yeah, we will use it, Chuff. Yeah. Here comes O'Connor. Let me take that rifle.
Mitts
Here. Take your time now.
Shoaff
Yeah, don't worry. Just as soon as I get him in these sights. There.
Mitts
You got him, Mitch.
Shoaff
Yeah.
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Shoaff
Come on. Grab them pouches. Yeah. Cut the straps, y'all. Yeah, that's good now. Now give me a hand with the bodies jumping off the trail in the bushes. Grab hold.
Cisco Kid
Got him.
Shoaff
All right. All right. Nobody will find him here. Drop him.
Cisco Kid
Yup. Yeah.
Mitts
Now we got that payroll mitts. What are we gonna do with it?
Shoaff
We can't get away with it just yet without making it look bad. Now, I got an idea. Shaf.
Mitts
What is it?
Shoaff
Nobody ever goes into that railroad Jail car Except us and the prisoners we take in.
Mitts
That's right.
Shoaff
I figure if we rip open the seat cushion of my desk chair and then sew the money into the cushion, it'll be safe.
Mitts
Good idea, mister.
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Shoaff
Then in two or three days, I can get into an argument with Wolford and resign my job as marshal without arousing any suspicion. Yeah, that's what we'll do, Shoff. Now get up. Get up.
Pancho
Much farther this way to Camp 16, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
Not much as I remember it, Pancho. Perhaps a mile. Where? Look ahead of us.
Pancho
A horse with no rider, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Hey, unless I'm mistaken, that is the horse of the senor who was carrying the mail Poches.
Pancho
The horse throw the SEO.
Cisco Kid
No. It's possible.
Pancho
Uh huh.
Cisco Kid
Let's see if we can catch that horse. Come on, Pancho.
Pancho
We catch the horse, Poncho. Right this way.
Cisco Kid
Oh. Steady. Straight. Oh. Oh. I have the reins, Pancho. Let's see if we can tell what has happened here.
Pancho
She's full spots on the saddle.
Cisco Kid
Steady. Ho, ho, ho ho. Not going to hurt you, Poncho. The rider was wounded. There's no question about it.
Pancho
No question.
Cisco Kid
Come on, let us ride on. I will lead this horse.
Pancho
Ride the shot, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Looks very much as if he was. Come on, Diablo.
Pancho
Come on, Logo. Come down. Come, come.
Cisco Kid
Would not be the first time a male rider was ambushed. But we have no proof that that is what happened.
Pancho
We get proof, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
That is what we were trying to do, Pancho. There has been a hole up.
Wolford
Of course.
Cisco Kid
This may have been accidental shooting.
Pancho
What, Cisco? See what, Cisco? See?
Cisco Kid
Footprints ahead in the snow and signs of a scuffle. Let's examine those signs, Puncho.
Pancho
See, we examined them.
Cisco Kid
And here's where the rider's horse plunged as if in sudden fright.
Pancho
Throw the rider into the snow. She spoke.
Cisco Kid
See? And here are the footsteps of two umbre who hurried to the spot. And the footsteps go off in that direction.
Pancho
In that direction.
Cisco Kid
Come, we'll follow them.
Pancho
P Think it's bad business, Isco?
Cisco Kid
I suspect it is bad business, Poncho. Very bad business. In fact, I have no doubt that this will turn out to be murder.
Shoaff
So far, so good shop. We got to a jail car without being seen. Whoa.
Mitts
Looks as if we was going to get away with it, Metz.
Shoaff
Yeah, sure thing.
Cisco Kid
Easy.
Mitts
Get the door unlocked. I want to get this money hid just as quick as possible.
Shoaff
Got a knife on you?
Mitts
Yeah, yeah.
Shoaff
Get this seat cushion ripped. There we are. Now we'll stuff that money in there. There we go. What's the matter with that shop?
Mitts
It's a good hiding place. Except all that money makes the cushion kind of bulky.
Shoaff
Well, we can shove the cushion around so it'll smooth out some, I guess. There, that looked better.
Mitts
Hey, Metz, get away from that chair quick. Somebody's coming into the car.
Cisco Kid
I've been looking for you, Metz.
Wolford
Where you been?
Shoaff
Oh, Shoff and I just been riding around to see if everything was in order. Wolford, what's troubling you?
Wolford
Oh, Connor ain't got in yet with that payroll.
Shoaff
Oh, he'll probably be right along. Lot of snow up through the passes, Wolford. Still mighty slow riding up there.
Mitts
Yeah, that's probably what's held him up.
Wolford
I'm making a lounge for the snow. Even so, he ain't ever been as late as this. My crew should have been paid off half an hour ago.
Shoaff
Well, I don't know what we can do about it.
Wolford
You can ride with me up toward arrow Pass. Maybe O'Connor got hurt. Maybe that's what's delaying him.
Shoaff
Yeah, we ought to stick around this camp, Wolford. Can't tell when trouble may bust loose among those roustabouts.
Wolford
Trouble sure will bust loose. Unless they get their money. Come on with me, Metz. You too, Shoaff. Come on, let's go.
Pancho
The male rider shot dead, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Say, I hope you tied his bodily tightly onto his horse so it will not fall off.
Pancho
Pancho did not fall off, Cisco. Pancha tie many knots. But Cisco see the male rather not dead by accident.
Cisco Kid
No, no indeed. He is not dead by accident, Pancho. He was murdered.
Pancho
Who do it, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
That is something I cannot tell you, Chico, because I do not know.
Pancho
Pants not no needer. Too bad he not let us ride with him, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
He might be alive if he hadn't. On the other hand, Pancho, we might also have been shot down.
Pancho
What about the tracks and the trail, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
Well, there are too many of them, Pancho.
Pancho
Too many?
Cisco Kid
No tell nothing from them now that we are on the main trail at the camp and the pack's back at the scene of the murder. There is no doubt.
Wolford
But what?
Cisco Kid
The rider was shot down by two hombres.
Pancho
Look, Cisco. Look ahead. Three riders come this way.
Cisco Kid
Hot down hole.
Pancho
Look, a hole of a hole.
Cisco Kid
One of them is Senor Wolford. What is this? Ehr.
Pancho
What is this?
Wolford
Er, Cisco. Fato. Hoo hoo.
Pancho
Ooh.
Wolford
Well, I'm glad to see you two again and well. Great snakes. Whose body is that? O'Connor's.
Cisco Kid
He's the body of the mail rider. Senor.
Wolford
Yep. That's O'Connor Plug Plumb Center.
Mitts
Sure is.
Shoaff
Say, who are these two hombres, Wolford?
Wolford
Well, this is the Cisco Kid. And this is his partner, Pancho.
Cisco Kid
Yes.
Pancho
Partner Pancho.
Wolford
How'd O'Connor get killed, Cisco?
Shoaff
Yeah, that's right. I'd like to know.
Cisco Kid
All we know about it, Senor Wolford, is that this rider was shot and killed at Wigwam Creek.
Wolford
Mail pouch is gone, too. O'Connor carried the payroll money in those pouches.
Shoaff
Maybe these hombres are friends of yours, Wolford. But I'm the railroad Marshal to Camp 16, so I'm arresting them.
Cisco Kid
You are arresting the wrong men, senor Marshal Panchu. And I know nothing whatever about these murders, except what I've just told you.
Wolford
I believe em Metz. If Cisco and Pancho say they don't know anything about it, they don't.
Shoaff
Just the same, I'm taking no chances. Now get your hands up, both of you.
Cisco Kid
There's no need to draw that gun, Senior Marshal Pancho and I are friends of Senor Wolford. We owe it to him to go with you peaceably until these matters is cleared up.
Wolford
I sure hope you can clear it up, Cisco.
Mitts
They'd better. Because when that construction gang finds their money's been stolen, they're gonna be in a lynching mood.
Pancho
Ponch not like the sound of this.
Cisco Kid
Neither do I, amigo. But I think we will be in no danger from them. That is, unless somebody lies to them about us.
Shoaff
You mean that remark for me, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
You wish to take it to yourself, senor? You may. For I suspect you are arresting Pancho and me not because you believe we killed this rider, but to shelter someone else. Perhaps yourself.
Narrator
But Cisco and Poncho are in far greater peril than they realize. In just a moment, we'll return to the Cisco Kid.

Narrator
Now back to the Cisco Kid in our gripping story Avalanche in Arrow Pass. Riding toward railroad construction camp 16 to see their friend Wolford. Construction boss Cisco and Pancho found the body of mail rider O'Connor who had been ambushed and shot down by railroad marshal Metz and his deputy shoff of Camp 16. Later taking Oconnors body to the railroad camp, Sisco was met by Wolford, Metz and Shaw. Promptly the railroad marshal put Sisco under arrest for murder and theft of the payroll. Now in the jail car at the construction camp.
Pancho
But farts never been in a jail like this Jail.
Cisco Kid
There's a jail on wheels. Poncho a railway car made over into a jail.
Pancho
Most jails Cisco got three barred windows.
Cisco Kid
Very convenient amigo. You can see what is going on up and down the street of the camp.
Pancho
Ponce not like what he sees. Cisco and 12 gangs in the street.
Cisco Kid
No see they've knocked off work until they get their money and they're in an ugly mood.
Pancho
Look Cisco. That mad sombre talked with some of them.
Cisco Kid
Where is he?
Pancho
Pancho. Look where Pancho points is.
Cisco Kid
Oh, I see.
Pancho
Now let's point back to this car.
Cisco Kid
I think I know exactly what that coyote is doing? I think he's trying to talk that mob into lynching us.
Pancho
We not going to stay here to be Lindsey's gonna afraid we have no.
Cisco Kid
Choice in the matter, amigo. This jail car is strongly built. I've tried those cell bars and I cannot even budge them. Only I could get out of here and get into that locomotive.
Pancho
The locomotive issue the jail car, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
See, with the steam up too. We must get out of here, Pancho, as quickly as we can.
Pancho
Oh, hombres get mad, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
The more that buzzard Mex talks to them, the angrier they will get. I do not like the looks of things, amigo. Not one bit.
Shoaff
Maybe as railroad marshal of this here camp. Boys, I shouldn't be telling you this, but the fact remains that the Cisco Kid and his partner know where that money is. Now just a minute here. Just a minute. That ain't long abiding. But of course, if you was to act this way after dark, why, maybe Schoff and me couldn't help herself, you know.
Mitts
Easy, Mince. Here comes Wolfen.
Shoaff
Yeah, what of it? I don't owe him nothing.
Wolford
Hey, what's going on here? Met, I suggest you better disperse these men.
Shoaff
And disperse them? I guess they got a right to walk around the camp if they want to.
Wolford
Well, you've got no right to go around talking to groups of them. The way you've been, I worse you mets. And if you're trying to stir up trouble among these men.
Shoaff
Yeah, what are you going to do about it?
Wolford
I'll relieve you of your job and take over myself.
Shoaff
You hear that, boy? He's going to take over. Hey. Hey, there's an idea. We'll run him in. Sh. Grab hold of.
Cisco Kid
Hey, let's go.
Wolford
Yeah.
Shoaff
Let go nothing. They're putting you in that jail car while you be out of the way. Maybe he knows where that money is too, Boys, he's a friend of the Cisco kids.
Wolford
You Coyote Man.
Shoaff
That's enough of that. Come on with us. We're running you in. And maybe you'll have some visitors after dark. Cisco.
Pancho
Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Si, Pancho?
Pancho
Look, those two hombres bring sang a wolf at here.
Cisco Kid
I'm watching them, Chico. Soon they have put Senor Wolpert under arrest.
Pancho
They bring him to this jail. Kartisko.
Cisco Kid
They're coming right this way. Now's our chance, Pancho. The only chance we will have.
Pancho
Chance for what?
Cisco Kid
Chance to get out of this jail. I have a poncho. I will rush that cell door just the moment Metz opens it.
Pancho
But they got the gun, Cisco. We not got the gun.
Cisco Kid
There is a chance I will have to take, amigo. Better to take a chance in a gun in the hands of those hombres than a rope in the hands of that mob.
Pancho
Can't you like to help, Cisco? But Ponce not know how to help.
Cisco Kid
Well, there's nothing you can do, Poncho. Careful now.
Pancho
Very careful.
Cisco Kid
If they come to the car.
Shoaff
Yeah. I thought you might be lonesome, Cisco, so I brought you some company.
Wolford
This is a blasted out rig if ever I saw one.
Cisco Kid
Shut up, Wolford.
Mitts
I'll open the cell door m you two hombres stand back.
Pancho
Stand back, Homie.
Shoaff
Yeah. Now get in there, Wolfer.
Cisco Kid
I gotta tell you, Wolfert, go arrest the cell door. Watch it, Rich.
Shoaff
Shut the door.
Cisco Kid
You are just too late to shut the door, hombre, till after I get through it. Gun him down sharp.
Mitts
Blasted gun stuck in the holster.
Cisco Kid
That is lucky for me, hombre. But my fist is not stuck in my pocket, as you are about to find out.
Pancho
That's the stuff. Get the other one. Now just go.
Shoaff
My gun ain't stuck in the holster.
Cisco Kid
Might just as well be. Ombre. All the good is going to do you.
Pancho
Just go. Just go. All the opera. Get away.
Shoaff
Now.
Cisco Kid
There's nothing I can do about that at the moment, Pancho. My hands are full with this, hombre. But I think about one more good punch will hold him for a while.
Pancho
Dad.
Cisco Kid
Hold him quickly now, Pancho. Tie up these, hombre. Senor Wolford, you had better get guns and ammunition from those rocks. That mob knows a fight has been going on in here and they are about ready to come after us.
Wolford
All right, Cisco.
Pancho
What do you do, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
I'm going to get to that locomotive going and haul this jail car out of here. Lock that Metz hombre in the cell, Pancho. As soon as you get him tied and take his guns.
Pancho
And then Pancho come with you, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
You had better stay here and help Send your woofer all you can. You may have to hold off the mob until I can get the locomotive started.
Shoaff
Hey, you're on, Breeze.
Mitts
You better get going and rush that car. Cisco and the other one just broke jail. Half a dozen of you come with me. Cisco's gonna try to start up that locomotive just climbing into the hill. I'm going to take the shortcut to the trestle. And when he runs the locomotive in the car over the trestle, I'm going to dynamite it. Let's go.
Cisco Kid
Santo. These Johnson bar must be stuck or out of order. Cannot even budget.
Pancho
Cisco. Cisco, wait for Poncho.
Cisco Kid
Poncho, I thought I told you to stay back in that car.
Pancho
Pancho want to be with Chico.
Cisco Kid
Someday, Pancho will have to give you a lesson in discipline. Try that Johnson bar once more.
Pancho
Buenos. The old locomotive.
Cisco Kid
Seeing that mob is getting near it by the moment.
Pancho
One thing, bullets not go through the locomotive. Only way the locomotive better than Lobo.
Cisco Kid
Is high toppers Hunto. That was a close call, Pancho. It was a close call, for we are not yet out of danger. Look, those hombres are riding to cut us off.
Pancho
Is the hombre.
Cisco Kid
There's a trestle up ahead. May be that they think we will slow down for the trestle. No, they are stopping, Pancho. They're getting off their horses.
Pancho
They fixed something, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Hey, Madrea. I believe that is dynamite. Poncho, that is what they are planning to do. Dynamite the trestle.
Pancho
We go over the trestle.
Cisco Kid
Of course we'll knock over the trestle. It will be sheer madness. I will stop this locomotive. You and I will get back to that jail car. Poncho, come. Come on. There they go, boys. Get em.
Pancho
Santa Sisu. Bashing that like bullets. So close.
Cisco Kid
Save your breath, Poncho. Come on now, up in that car.
Wolford
Hey, what did you stop the engine for, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
Those hombres are going to dynamite the trestle. Senor, how are we fixed for ammunition?
Wolford
Well, we got three guns and a couple of dozen rounds of ammunition, Cisco. As long as that holds out, we can keep them off.
Pancho
Here come a big mouth running after the crane.
Cisco Kid
I will look in these desk. Maybe more ammunition in there. If so, Madrea, what is this? The seat cushion looks as if it had been cut by a knife and then sewed up again.
Wolford
Oh, never mind the seat cushion. Cisco, come over here and take up a station at this window.
Cisco Kid
One moment. Say, Wolfram, I want to look more closely at the seat cushion.
Shoaff
Hey, you buzzard, get away from that cushion.
Cisco Kid
Oh, so you have come too, have you, hombre? On the contrary, I'm going to open up this cushion. A thread should break easily. Ah, Senor Wolford, look. There is money stuffed into this cushion. A great deal of money. Five hundred.
Wolford
You're right, Cisco. Say, that could be the payroll money.
Cisco Kid
I have no doubt that is just what it is. Ready to rush that car, boy? Senor Wilfred, keep your gun trained on that Shaw hombre. He starts to fire at me, send a bullet his way. Just enough to support his aim.
Pancho
Where'd you go, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
Out on the back platform of the Car. Pancho. I'm going to talk to that mob. Oh, Brad.
Wolford
But that's madness, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
I do not think so, senor. I know something about mobs.
Pancho
And then why don't you go, too?
Wolford
There they are.
Cisco Kid
One moment, senores. We're all going to be paid the money that is owed you. You will see the money presently. I only want to tell you this, that Senor O'Connor, the friend of many of you, was murdered and your payroll money stolen from him by Metz and Shops.
Pancho
That's a lie.
Cisco Kid
Your money will be brought out now, signore. Did you empty all the money out of that seat cushion, Senor Wilson?
Shoaff
Yep.
Wolford
Dumped it all in the desk drawer. Said go home.
Cisco Kid
Give me the cushion, Senores. I'm now going to set fire to these cushions. I think it will burn very nicely.
Mitts
No, no, Cisco. Give me that cushion.
Cisco Kid
You crazy fool.
Mitts
That's worth money, a lot of money. So help me, I'll kill you for this, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
I do not think you will, hombre. Do not intend to be killed by one of the murderers of Seiyo Okada. So I will make sure you will remain quiet at least a couple of minutes like this. You all saw, senores, how concerned he was about this cushion. You all see where this cushion was cut? It was cut so these hombre and Mets could stuff your payroll money into the cushion.
Wolford
And here's your pay, boys. And if you line up and file past the steps of this car, I'll pay you off one by one. Now, be sure and have your time, Siv Gandhi.
Pancho
Yeah, and after that, we'll have our.
Cisco Kid
Next type party just the same, with Mets and shots. No, no, no, no, senores. You will have nothing of the kind. You will let the law deal with these homies as the law always deals with thieves and murder.
Pancho
Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Hey, Pancho.
Pancho
What we do now, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
Well, now that those two banderos are safely in jail, Pancho, we have time to talk of other things, see?
Pancho
Other things, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
I understand your young friend Raymond got married just the other day, you see?
Pancho
Raymond got married?
Cisco Kid
And whom did he marry? Fajo?
Pancho
He married pretty little Isabel, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Pretty little Isabel, see? She's pretty, too. Omegon.
Pancho
Yeah, very pretty. But Raymond, he mad at Horcisco.
Cisco Kid
Raymond is mad at little Isabel, see?
Pancho
Raymond begin to think little Isabel not know much.
Cisco Kid
Oh, but what makes him think she does not know much?
Pancho
Well, the other night, Raymond milk the cow and bring a pail of milk in the house.
Cisco Kid
Pail of milk, see?
Pancho
And then Raymond go back to the barn to finish the chores, see. And the next thing Raymond know, little Isabel come running out of the barn. She say, oh, Reman Riemann is a mouse in the pail of milk.
Cisco Kid

Cisco Kid
And what did little Isabel say to that, Pancho?
Pancho

"Avalanche in Arrow Pass," featuring the legendary Cisco Kid, is a captivating installment of the Old Time Radio Westerns podcast hosted by Andrew Rines. Released on February 4, 2025, this episode immerses listeners in a meticulously restored classic Western radio drama, enhanced with rich and clear audio that brings the Wild West to life. Set against the backdrop of railroad construction in the untamed frontier, the story weaves suspense, betrayal, and heroism into a gripping narrative.
The episode opens with Cisco Kid and his partner Pancho riding into Arrow Pass during the early spring, where lingering winter snows complicate their journey. Their mission is to visit their friend Senior Wolford at Construction Camp 16. As they navigate the treacherous pass, they encounter Wolford, who is apprehensive and dismissive of their presence.
Cisco Kid [06:18]: "Now, we're just entering the pass, amigo, and, well, there's a rider just ahead."
Despite their friendly demeanor, Wolford remains suspicious, creating tension that foreshadows forthcoming conflicts.
Upon reaching the pass, Cisco Kid and Pancho discover the lifeless body of O'Connor, the mail rider, indicating a sinister plot against him. Traces of a struggle and footprints suggest foul play, deepening the mystery.
Cisco Kid [11:03]: "That is something I cannot tell you, Chico, because I do not know."
Determined to uncover the truth, they follow the evidence back to the railroad camp, where tensions escalate as Railroad Marshal Metz and his deputy Shoaff attempt to cover their tracks by concealing the stolen payroll.
In a dramatic turn, Metz and Shoaff confront Cisco Kid and Pancho at Camp 16, accusing them of murder and theft. Despite proclaiming their innocence, the evidence against them mounts, leading to their arrest and confinement in the camp's jail car.
Shoaff [21:20]: "Maybe as railroad marshal of this here camp. Boys, I shouldn't be telling you this, but the fact remains that the Cisco Kid and his partner know where that money is."
Inside the jail car, the situation intensifies as a mob of disgruntled workers threatens violence, forcing Cisco Kid to devise a daring escape plan.
With quick thinking, Cisco Kid confronts Wolford, exposing the corruption of Metz and Shoaff. He reveals that the stolen payroll money was hidden in a seat cushion, a detail that leads to Wolford's realization of their deceit.
Cisco Kid [27:11]: "I have no doubt that is just what it is. Ready to rush that car, boy?"
In a climactic showdown, alliances shift as Wolford sides with Cisco Kid, culminating in the rescue of the payroll money and the exposure of the corrupt officials.
The episode concludes with the resolution of both the central conflict and a lighter subplot involving Raymond and Isabel, adding depth to the narrative and providing a satisfying closure to the adventure.
Cisco Kid [29:49]: "I understand your young friend Raymond got married just the other day, you see?"
Cisco Kid [07:21]: "See? He has to be suspicious of everyone he does not know."
Shoaff [12:28]: "It's a good hiding place. Except all that money makes the cushion kind of bulky."
Wolford [16:32]: "I believe em Metz. If Cisco and Pancho say they don't know anything about it, they don't."
Cisco Kid [23:17]: "There is nothing I can do about that at the moment, Pancho. My hands are full with this, hombre."
Pancho [26:14]: "We go over the trestle."
