A fiery horse with the speed of a light, a cloud of dust and a hearty HI O. Silver. The Lone Ranger. Cattle raising was the first great industry in the western United States. But the lives and property of the ranchers were in constant danger from outlaws and hostile Indians. It was not until the masked rider of the plains started his fight for justice that cattle rustlers were driven from the range country and the west became safe for honest men and women. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. From out of the past come the thundering hoof beats of the great horse. Silver. The Lone Ranger rides again.
Jeff Regan
Hello, Silver. We're heading south for the Rio Grande. It's going to be trouble. I O Silver. Hello.
Narrator
Sam. Curtis. Cattle were grazing peacefully on the buffalo grass that covered the rangeland. They were Texas longhorns, sleek and well fed. Just about the best cattle in the territory. It was late at night and the herd was watched by only two range riders.
Sam Curtis
That you, Regan?
Jeff Regan
Yeah, Jeff.
Sam Curtis
Pretty quiet tonight, is he? Get around the other side the herd, Regan. I'm riding this side. I thought I saw a light flickering over this way. Come over to ask if you. I ain't seen nothing. It was right up that there bluff behind you.
Narrator
I figured.
Sam Curtis
Now get back to where you bel. I was just gonna tell you I ain't seen nothing and there ain't nothing. Regan, suppose them cattle takes a notion of wander right where you're supposed to be. Yeah.
Narrator
If I wouldn't have come unless I figured them cattle wasn't in no danger.
Sam Curtis
Stampedin. I never can tell, I guess. All right. I'm sloping doggone curious. That fellow. Reckon he don't suspect nothing. Come on, horse. Up that hill. Come on, boy. Steady now. Come on. Worsted Worcester. Right here, Jeff. He seen a light. Gotta be more careful, Worcester.
Tato
Forget it.
Worcester
We got business to attend to. The sooner we stampede Curtis kettle past Rock Gulch, the sooner the boys can cut out a couple of hundred head for wrestling already.
Sam Curtis
Anytime you say, Worcester.
Worcester
No shooting and no yelling. Sevy.
Sam Curtis
Ain't gonna be easy getting them steers.
Worcester
On the producer right here.
Tato
My saddlebag, huh?
Worcester
We use this, there won't be no need for us to shoot or raise a Holler.
Sam Curtis
Hey, mister, that smells like wool.
Worcester
Yeah, Jeff. It's wolf scent, all right.
Tato
Got it from an engine.
Sam Curtis
There. You see?
Worcester
Your heart's got the smell of wolf. Just figured what'll happen when them longhorns.
Tato
Start to get it.
Sam Curtis
Him.
Worcester
Wind's carrying the scent toward him already.
Sam Curtis
That's all right. Smart idea.
Tato
Western.
Sam Curtis
Yes, Jeff.
Worcester
You take this here sack.
Tato
I got another one. Now.
Worcester
We'll just head for the kettle. The closer we get, the wilder they'll get. They'll stampede without us making a sound.
Sam Curtis
If this doggone horse don't run away first. Come on, cattle.
Worcester
Get the smell of wolves.
Sam Curtis
They're moving.
Worcester
Swing their sack toward them.
Sam Curtis
Spread the wolf's dent.
Jeff Regan
They're gifted. Get up.
Worcester
Pretty sweet scheme, ain't it?
Sam Curtis
Make him won't know what makes him so nervous.
Tato
Come on.
Sam Curtis
Keep. Come on then, Fittest.
Narrator
What's eating Silver boy?
Jeff Regan
Easy there. Sit back. Get back there, you action plum loco. What that'll be scared of? Get back.
Tato
Back.
Jeff Regan
H. Long horns. What's making you act up?
Narrator
Ain't no use.
Jeff Regan
I can't turn them back. Here they come. Come on, horse. We gotta run first. Get traveling, horse. It's the same speed I gotta ride. For what? That stuff tle.
Tato
It's a stampede. They're heading this way.
Sam Curtis
That's right.
Jeff Regan
We go fast.
Tato
Hello. Wait.
Sam Curtis
Huh?
Tato
You hear that, Kimasabi? There's a rider out in front of the stamp.
Jeff Regan
You hear him?
Tato
Sounds tired. Hunter. Come along. We've got to see if he needs help.
Jeff Regan
Get him up. Scowl. Come on, Silver. Head to the stampede. Hello. Cannot hear you.
Tato
Look. Shadow.
Jeff Regan
Come on. Coming out through the clouds. Him plenty close. Has to. Silver Pastor. Hello. Over this way. Look. He'll fall down. As long as it'll go for hole. Come on, film. Get set. Swing up behind me. Get ready. Give me a hand. Hang on. You'll never make a chance, Elders. Better let me go and save yourself. Keep your code. I stinking. My Tommy. Them cows come fast. Come on. Tilbury alive.
Sam Curtis
Home.
Worcester
We sure done all right with him.
Sam Curtis
Kennel Jeff.
Narrator
Yeah.
Sam Curtis
There's a ranch word I better amble.
Worcester
The boy's cut out a full 200 head. Changing the brand on it by now.
Sam Curtis
You figure Regan got away?
Worcester
He had them long horns right behind him, sure enough.
Sam Curtis
Maybe they stampeded over him.
Worcester
Don't make no difference anyways. We had the kettle cut out while he was still riding in front of the stampede.
Narrator
You better head back for the boys.
Tato
Yeah.
Sam Curtis
I'll ride up to the ranch and give Sam Kirti the sad news. Yeah, sad for him.
Worcester
Make it look good, Jeff.
Sam Curtis
Sure. Sam won't suspect a thing. Not a thing.
Worcester
As soon as we get them cars across the border, you'll get your divvy. Adios.
Sam Curtis
Adios, Worcester. Come on, horse. Pull leather.
Worcester
Make it look good.
Sam Curtis
Yeah.
Jeff Regan
Hey, Kearney. Hey, Sam, Wake up. Turn out it's me. It's Jeff. Sam. Where in Todd Nation are ya?
Sam Curtis
Where's Sam?
Mrs. Curtis
Yeah. Thank you.
Sam Curtis
Yeah. There's trouble. Where's Sam?
Mrs. Curtis
He's asleep, of course. What on earth is he then?
Sam Curtis
Roust him out. We gotta get going. What's it going, Jeff? Something gone wrong with the steers. Trouble, Sam. How come you're here? You ought to be outranged.
Narrator
Right.
Sam Curtis
The herd broke loose. What? The stampede. They went on the plow. Plum loco got going and I couldn't stop them. Stay right here. I'll pull on my boots and get right out.
Mrs. Curtis
Jeff.
Sam Curtis
Yes'm.
Mrs. Curtis
How come you're alone? What about Regan?
Sam Curtis
Regan was on the other side of the herd, Mrs. Curtie. The cattle stampede headed straight first.
Mrs. Curtis
You think something happened to him?
Sam Curtis
I don't know. I couldn't see. There's plenty of dust and the moon went under a cloud. I sure hope Regan got clear. Them longhorns got plenty sharp hoofs. Anything small. I'm riding out with Jeff.
Mrs. Curtis
Oh, look for young Regan, Sam.
Sam Curtis
This way, Jeff. Grab me horse out of the corral. You better make it too, Sam. Well, my horse is plumb. Tuck it out. Sure. I clean forgot. Sure, your horse must have wore out riding at the stand. Peeking cattle ain't no picnic. And then pouring for the ranch at a gallop. Sure. You put that cayuse into the corral and we'll get us fresh horses. Shed that saddle and give me a rope. The sooner we get horses, the sooner we can take after them longhorns. Sky's getting light. Them cattle sure cover plenty of ground. Went way past Broad Goat, Sam. Hey, you hear that? The cattle? Yeah. Must be right past this clump of Ms. Keats. You hear that? It's Regan. Hey, Regan, that you? Come on, Jeff. That's him.
Narrator
Mister, I'm glad to see you. These here local steers been rambling all night, Jeff.
Sam Curtis
You figure what's out of it, Larry? An idea, Regan. Just got to belling and milling around and off they talk. Glad to see you safe, son.
Narrator
Come right in there.
Sam Curtis
Getting caught, Mr. C, but a fellow. And as for the herd, it looked he. Huh? Yeah. Regan, there's something wrong. That herd looks heap smaller than it ought to be Sam. I don't like. Plenty is missing. I wonder if something. They sure do look thinned out. Now that you mention it. Restless now. Restless, I tell you. That's what it must be. And by granny, I got a good idea where they're headed.
Jeff Regan
Where?
Sam Curtis
Rock Gulch. It's the only spot they could have cut out any candle.
Tato
No.
Sam Curtis
Maybe they strayed off straight. Nothing. Couple hundred head. I tell you, them cattle was cut off deliberate. And I tell you it's rock goats where it was done. Get your horse ringing.
Narrator
My horse is lame, Mr. Cuddy, except smacking a gopher hole.
Sam Curtis
Lame, huh?
Tato
All right, then.
Sam Curtis
You stay here and keep your eyes on the herd.
Narrator
I don't reckon they'll go in the plot again. They plum water will frazzle.
Sam Curtis
Nevertheless, you stay, Jeff. We're heading for Rock Ghost. Well, if you say so, But I.
Narrator
Nothing.
Sam Curtis
Rock Ghost leads right to the ford across the Rio Grande. Right smack into Mexico. It's rustlers, I tell you. And we're heading after him.
Jeff Regan
Come on, boy.
Tato
There they are. Kimo Sabi. Ah, Rustler. Across the Rio Grande into Mexico. Them change brand. Now keep low, T. Right. The sun's coming up. I don't want them to see us over the top of this hill. Tall feller, boss, huh? Remember what he looks like, T. Now back to the horses. How many cattle there? At least 200 heads. Hunter, we go back across Rio Grande now. This is Mexican territory, Tata. Nothing we can do here would be within the law, Boss. Rustler, not Mexican. He'll cross the border again soon, Tata. That's the time to trap him. You think maybe. Yes. Impeller. We help and stampede. Regan. Maybe him rustler too. No, Tata. I'm sure Regan has nothing to do with it. Plenty of cowhands rustle their own cattle. Regan was running ahead of that stampede. He couldn't be in with the rustlers. Regan mentioned another rider. A rider who should have been with that herd. And yet he wasn't. Cowhand named Jeff. Steady, Silver. We're gonna head back across the river into Texas territory. Purdy's cattle have been rustled. And I want to find out where Jeff is and what he knows about us. All right, so we're back for him. Get him up.
Sam Curtis
Where's a marked tail? Look at Jeff. Yes, Sam. Dog gone. Army cattle stealing rustlers. They cut out them prime heads and moved them right across the Rio. Reckon that's what started the stampede? Sure rustles that. What? I'll pull up. Ain't no use chasing them into Mexican territory. Just two of us ain't enough to put up a fight. It's a doggone shame. Sam, you sure you didn't see see anyone last night? J your soul. It beats me how they started to stampede without shouting and yelling. Must be them same rustlers has been taking cattle off every ranch in this section. Dad, read him. If I had a posse of men around, I.
Narrator
What's that?
Sam Curtis
Hoops. Come from other side of the river.
Jeff Regan
Hey, where you going?
Sam Curtis
Find you, sir.
Tato
Cactus.
Sam Curtis
They ain't seen us yet. What are you figuring on doing? Get your shoot line. Must be a couple of them rustlers coming back. We'll give them a warm welcome.
Tato
What's that?
Sam Curtis
They're coming down the slope now. That can't be. One of them hombres is wearing a mask.
Tato
Yeah.
Sam Curtis
Masked man. The Injun. Ain't nobody wears a mask less than he's up into something ornery. Yeah, I thought it was nothing. Nothing, Sam. Reckon you're right. Them's the rustler's showing off right now. Either come across the river.
Tato
Get him.
Sam Curtis
Easy.
Tato
Don't shoot.
Sam Curtis
But, Sam, I want these armres in my own way. Just keep your guns out, ready to shoot if they don't stop.
Tato
Right.
Sam Curtis
Clothes in. All right, you sneaking coyotes, reach for the sky. Don't make no play for your guns. This ain't no ambush, mister. You and the engine are rustlers, that's what. And you know what that means. Come sundown, you'll be swinging at the end of a rope, ready for the buzzards.
Narrator
The curtain falls on the first act of our Lone Ranger story before the next exciting scenes. Please permit us to pause for just a few moments now to continue our story. When the Lone Ranger and Tanto returned to the Texas side of the Rio Grande after following the rustlers, they were ambushed by Curly and his foreman, Jack Curdley. Certain that the masked man and the Indian were rustlers, locked them up at his ranch and headed for the town.
Sam Curtis
To get the sheriff. Ms. Kirti. Now don't you fret. Them two homies is locked up good and tight and there ain't no way for them to get out.
Mrs. Curtis
Oh, it's sure taking Sam a long time to fetch a sheriff.
Sam Curtis
Yes, a right smart piece to town. Ought to be back around sunset.
Mrs. Curtis
I sure wish you took them into town instead of leaving them here on the range.
Sam Curtis
A lot less likely they can get away. Here. Reagan, what are you doing here? I told you to stay with them steers.
Narrator
I brought my horse in the corrals here.
Sam Curtis
Gotta get another one that ain't lean. Well, get it and get back. Sure, sure. Sandy's riding. Day hurt on him.
Tato
Say, what's this he was saying about.
Sam Curtis
Sam and you catching up a couple of them rustlers?
Mrs. Curtis
Yeah, Regan, he got em locked up waiting for the posse and I wish we didn't.
Sam Curtis
Shucks.
Narrator
Don't figure there'd be any trouble.
Sam Curtis
Get your horse and get moving, Regan. Gosh, Jeff, you don't have to. You heard me.
Jeff Regan
Get.
Sam Curtis
All right, all right.
Narrator
Oh, almost forgot.
Sam Curtis
What?
Narrator
Met Waster over near the range line.
Sam Curtis
Said he'd like to see if he could spare him a minute. Oh, Hoister. Eh?
Mrs. Curtis
Are you going, Jeff?
Sam Curtis
Sure. Now don't worry about them two hombres, ma'.
Tato
Am.
Sam Curtis
They ain't getting out. I'll see Worcester and I'll be right back. Keep your shirt on, Worcester. Ringing Just told me you wanted to see me.
Worcester
Sure I heard. Take him back across the border to my place. Met Sandy on his way to ride Sam's herd.
Sam Curtis
We ain't got a thing to worry us none.
Worcester
Yeah, sure.
Sam Curtis
Not that masked gent. And the engine will be swinging as soon as the sheriff gets here. What about them head we rustled Boys.
Worcester
Are busy changing brands.
Sam Curtis
They haven't sold at the same place in Mexico.
Worcester
Yeah, another couple of days that we moved along. You sure nobody's suspicions it's us doing the wrestling?
Sam Curtis
Positive, Worcester.
Worcester
Mighty convenient them two was captured.
Sam Curtis
They didn't put up no fight either. Had me plumb worried for a second while me and Sam was waiting. I figured it might be you coming back across the river.
Worcester
I ain't that foolish, Jeff. Well, reckon I'll head back for my ranch. Where'd Sam put them two hombres?
Sam Curtis
See the house right down below us? Yeah, the back end. You can see it from here. The feed shed.
Tato
Oh yeah.
Worcester
Good thing Sam Kurti put bars on that shed.
Sam Curtis
Yeah, done it to keep Varmas from getting in and stealing feed last winter. I wonder how that masked man likes his jail.
Tato
Tado, come here. Look out the window. Kimasabi. See those two men near the ranch line? You see him?
Sam Curtis
Him?
Tato
Yes, Tada. The man on the black horse. Him Rustler. The one we saw on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. Better look coming from the ranch house, Regan.
Sam Curtis
Yeah. You mean to tell me Cody put.
Tato
You two in hand? Forget that. But mister, I told you not to mention that Hado and I helped you last night. You haven't told anyone?
Sam Curtis
No. Like you said mister, I kept shut up about it.
Narrator
But this here's different.
Tato
Never mind that. Riggin. Who are those two men? Huh? Up there on the hill.
Sam Curtis
Oh, there's Jeff, Mr. Top End here. The other fella's Worcester.
Tato
What about him, Regan? That man Worcester is the rustler who stole Curtie's cattle.
Sam Curtis
What?
Narrator
You sure what you're saying?
Tato
Tell him when I saw him on the Mexican side. That's right.
Narrator
Well, I'll be dog gone, mister.
Sam Curtis
I better go to town and get Curtis.
Tato
Him and the sheriff Wait. Getting the sheriff will do no good. Regan and Worcester hasn't been suspected before. Why should they take my word now?
Sam Curtis
Oh, yeah, yeah, I hadn't figured that. What do you want me to do?
Tato
Can you get back here tonight?
Sam Curtis
I reckon so.
Tato
As soon as it turns dark. Come here. Make sure you do it before Cie returns with the sheriff. Yeah, I'll tell you the rest later. But don't forget, Tato and I must be gone before the sheriff arrives.
Mrs. Curtis
Sam. Sam, you're too late.
Sam Curtis
Where you got him, Sam? I brought the sheriff and a passage in. There ain't been no trouble.
Mrs. Curtis
Land sakes have been waiting and waiting. Sam, there's been a heap of trouble. Them two prisoners are gone.
Sam Curtis
What's that?
Mrs. Curtis
Soon as it got dark.
Sam Curtis
Hurdy, I thought you said you had them safe. It ain't possible, Sheriff. Jane, you're loco.
Mrs. Curtis
I ain't loco. You can look for yourself. The door's wide open by gravy tears. And the silver horse and the paint are gone from the corral, ain't they?
Sam Curtis
Well, who done it? They couldn't have got out by themselves.
Mrs. Curtis
I don't know, Sam, but they got.
Sam Curtis
Sam, I'll tell you who done it. What's that, Jeff? I saw it, Sam. It was Regan.
Narrator
Regan.
Sam Curtis
You're a cowhand, Sam. Yeah, for you. Sure as I'm standing here. Regan opened the door, give them their guns and got their horses. I couldn't do nothing. It being three again.
Narrator
One.
Sam Curtis
I reckon Regan is as crooked as they are. Never mind the palaver, Curtie. Speak up, Jeff. Which weighed the head? Well, if you're looking for him, Sheriff, you might as well give up right now. They hightail out of here in an all fired hurry. By this time they carry across the Rio Grande into Mexico where the law can't touch them.
Tato
The real Grande Keep traveling across the fort, Misty.
Sam Curtis
You haven't told me yet what you aim to do. Keep on.
Tato
We'll discuss that on the other side. All right.
Jeff Regan
Pull up FR your horn.
Tato
We're in Mexico now, Regan. Here's where we Part company?
Narrator
Yeah.
Tato
Those Russell cattle are a mile ahead. Tyler and I saw them early this morning. Ah. One mile. Now, tell me once more, Regan. Just where is Worcester's ranch?
Sam Curtis
Why, it's right over that way.
Tato
There's another Ford across the Rio Grande. There? Yep.
Sam Curtis
Leads right to his place.
Tato
Very well. Now, I want you to turn around and head back for Curtie's place, huh? Take it at a trot. I don't want you to get there too soon.
Sam Curtis
But, mister, the sheriff and the whole posse.
Tato
I know that, Regan. I want you to tell Sam Kerty that Worcester has rustled his cattle. I want you to convince that posse to go to Worcester's ranch.
Sam Curtis
But the cattle ain't there.
Tato
They will be.
Sam Curtis
Huh?
Tato
They'll be there by the time the posse arrives. You do your part and don't let anything stop you and huddle and I'll do ours. Adios. Come on, Silver. We're going after those stolen cattle.
Sam Curtis
Get him up.
Jeff Regan
Scoundrel.
Tato
Dog gone.
Sam Curtis
Look at that fella ride. I don't know how he aims to move them cattle, but I reckon he's.
Narrator
One fellow that gets things done.
Sam Curtis
I better start moseying too.
Narrator
Come on, horse.
Sam Curtis
Man don't run any more than he can handle.
Tato
We're around behind the rustlers. Now, T what we do? There are four men guarding those cattle. We saw them before.
Sam Curtis
That's right.
Tato
The torches. Army got them. We're gonna light those torches and stampede the cattle right back across the Rio Grande, right to Worcester's ranch.
Jeff Regan
Pull up.
Tato
They're a campfire. They're rustlers. Maybe they shoot, huh? They're not expecting anything, Tatter. We'll be on them before they're ready. Once those cattle start, we'll make sure they don't stop the side of Worcester's place. Now light the torch.
Sam Curtis
Huh?
Tato
Here, one. That's it. I'll take one and you take the other. Use your other hand for your gun. Leave the reins on Scout's neck. We can guide Silver and Scout with our knees. Now ride. Come on, Silver. Em.
Jeff Regan
Up, Scout.
Tato
Shoot into the air tunnel.
Sam Curtis
Stampede them.
Jeff Regan
Sam.
Tato
Sam.
Sam Curtis
Thunder. Regan.
Narrator
Sam. Chef, get the posse.
Sam Curtis
Right.
Narrator
And the masked man says the stolen cattle at Worcester's place.
Sam Curtis
What's that?
Jeff Regan
Grab him.
Mrs. Curtis
Didn't Jeff tell you it was rigging? Let the mask man the engine escape.
Jeff Regan
Let go of me.
Narrator
Sure, I helped him get away, but it wasn't them done the rustling.
Tato
Regan.
Sam Curtis
Talk and talk fast.
Narrator
I'm doing it, Sam.
Tato
Listen.
Narrator
That masked fell in the engine.
Sam Curtis
Saved my life.
Narrator
Last night they saved me from the stampede with my horse. Hit a gopher hole. They couldn't have done that and been doing the rustling at the same time.
Sam Curtis
Beak your piece. I let him get away and the counter. They had a plan to get the rustlers. Which same you say as Worcester?
Narrator
Yeah, Worcester and Jeff Regan.
Sam Curtis
You sure sound strange. But I won't swallow that until I hear from Jeff. He's my top hand. He wouldn't do no wrestling. Jeff. Hey, Jeff. Reckon he ain't here? I've seen him around before.
Mrs. Curtis
I just now recollect after you and the sheriff come up here with a posse or seen Jeff Lee?
Sam Curtis
He did.
Mrs. Curtis
Didn't strike me at the time, but he acted mighty secret about it. And what's more, he headed his horse for Worcester's place. Going mighty fast too. Like he was in an all fired hurry.
Sam Curtis
Sam, you gotta come in here. This ain't no time for talking. I don't sav you if what you say is all correct. It is correct, but you can save it. Cheer if the horse is outside all saddled and ready, call out your posse. We're heading for Worcester's ranch.
Jeff Regan
Roll up, boys.
Sam Curtis
Get your horse. Don't sound so funny to me, Jeff.
Worcester
What did Regan let him get away for? And he went with him.
Sam Curtis
Now don't get head up, Worcester. That's what I told the posse. I didn't see them gents escape. Savvy?
Worcester
But you said the truth.
Sam Curtis
Sure. I figured as long as the masked man the engine was gone and Regan weren't around to deny it, why, it wouldn't do no harm to put him in a bad light. Savvy? Besides, maybe it's better for us the posse didn't find them two. Might have been some embarrassing questions.
Worcester
You're right smart hombre, Jeff.
Sam Curtis
This way, Sam. With the sheriff and everybody. Figures them are the rustlers they got away. So that's all there is to it.
Worcester
Reckon it's best this way, huh?
Sam Curtis
I sloped over to tell you Worcester ain't got no reason to worry about Jeff Worcester. That sounds like cattle. Yeah.
Worcester
Many cattle near the house.
Sam Curtis
And where'd they come from?
Worcester
I don't like this, Jeff.
Tato
Come on.
Sam Curtis
What the. Most of them are Sam Kirty's cattle. I thought you had them across the Rio Grande. Sure. Sure I did. That was the cattle we rustled. How'd they get back here all right. Well, sir, Crab for the sky. Stand right where you are, Cody. Jeff C. In the Sheriff. Myers. My.
Tato
Try that again and my bullet won't. Be in at your gun, Jeff.
Sam Curtis
The max man. Mister, you sure can shoot. He hit his gun before he had down the holster. Now we stir. If you got alibi, you better start spouting. Then there's my cattle. Last night they had my brand on them and now they got yours. How come?
Worcester
Well, I did that.
Sam Curtis
Is it nothing to say, huh? How much you, Jeff? You got anything to say, Sam? You don't think I had anything to do with this? You don't think I rustled your cattle, do you, Jeff? I don't think so. I know so. And you know how I know? Because me and the Sheriff and the whole doggone posse listened right here outside this door while you and Worcester was talking. We heard every word, Sheriff. You can take these hombres to the calaboose, Sam. I sure will. And as for you, Regan, from now on you're a foreman. Me, Mr. Cuddy? Yeah, you. You're top hand savvy. I gotta thank somebody, don't I? And doggonies, hide that there masked man. Don't stay around for nothing. Not even for a thank you.

Episode Theme:
This episode transports listeners back to the frontier, where justice rides on horseback. "Custer Rides with the Lone Ranger" is a classic radio adventure that blends immersive Western soundscapes with a tale of ranchers, rustlers, shifting alliances, and the ever-resourceful Lone Ranger, ably assisted by Tonto. Classic Western tropes—cattle stampedes, double-crossing cowhands, and high-stakes chases—unfold in a fast-paced drama that tests loyalty and ingenuity.
Narrator (The Lone Ranger rides again):
"Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear..." (00:56)
Worcester (using wolf scent):
"We use this, there won't be no need for us to shoot or raise a holler." (04:58)
Jeff Regan (amid stampede):
"You'll never make a chance, Elders. Better let me go and save yourself!" (06:58)
Sam Curtis (suspecting a plot):
"That herd looks heap smaller than it ought to be... them cattle was cut off deliberate." (10:34–10:53)
Sam Curtis (wrongly accusing Lone Ranger and Tonto):
"All right, you sneaking coyotes, reach for the sky! ... Come sundown, you'll be swinging at the end of a rope, ready for the buzzards." (14:10)
Broad Exposition (Jeff Regan admits escape):
"Regan opened the door, give them their guns, and got their horses. I couldn't do nothing, it being three against one." (20:33, Jeff Regan)
