Narrator
With his faithful Indian companion, Tonto, the masked rider of the Plains led the fight for law and order in the early western United States. The stories of his strength and courage, his daring and resourcefulness, have come down to us through the generations. And nowhere in the pages of history can one find a greater champion of justice. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. From out of the past come the thundering hoof beats of the great horse.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Silver.
Narrator
The Lone Ranger rides again.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Come on Silver. We're on the trail of outlaws. I'm Silver Hoy.
Narrator
On a flat topped boulder overlooking a wagon train, two figures stood softly silhouetted against a shadowy night sky. The first was a tall man who wore a white hat and a black mask. The second was an Indian dressed in buckskin. Together, their eyes peered intently at a stagecoach approaching across the cactus thatched plain below.
Lone Ranger
The stage is coming now, Toto. When it reaches the Fort Red and his gang will attack.
Tonto
They make ready now?
Lone Ranger
Yes. They bunch their horses at the rise in that ravine.
Tonto
Page near fork.
Lone Ranger
There goes the gang tunnel.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Driver, haul up that stage. We got you covered. How many are you?
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Listen to two passengers and pop block and hear the guard.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Hell, you passengers keep quiet and you won't get hurt.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Guard.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
Yeah?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Toss them gun of yours on the ground, handle first.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
You won't get away with this, mister. You and the masked hombre of yours there have been having things your way around here too long.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Save your tongue or you won't be needing it. And toss them guns on the ground.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
You're wasting your time holding up this stage, mister. Ain't nothing on it worth stealing.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
I heard different boys waitin, boss.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Whatever you say, boss.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Take this stuff off.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
You won't find nothing in them boxes worth risking jail for, mister.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
I want your opinion, I'll ask for it.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
I'm counting 12 in your gang, mister.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Thirteen, counting the leader, Hawk.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
Yeah, 13. That's a big outfit to conceal in country as barren as is. Ain't hardly a place in it where you can hide your head.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Meaning what?
Hop Larkin (Guard)
If I was you, I'd move on, Prono.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Thirteen's a mighty unlucky number, mister.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
You're wasting your breath, gents. I ain't superstitious.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Yeah, Well, I once knew a rustler. Said the same thing. Last time I saw him, he was staring at the sky with a bullet
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
smack between his eyes. It was Friday the 13th.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Yeah, you don't scare me. Hurry up them boxes, boys.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
This is last time, boss.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Ready, boss.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Sling them crates across your saddles and get going. Now whip up them horses, TR Driver.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Don't look back. You're going to have some toil explaining to do to your gang when they open them boxes.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Mr. Holland, your tongue. You loose, J old maverick.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
What about my gun?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
They're staying here. Get up, you cayuses.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Get along there.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
We're seeing you, mister.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
In jail.
Narrator
From their place of observation overlooking the trail, the Lone Ranger and Tonto watched the gang disappear into the murky night. As the stage continued onto Pine Creek. Then the masked rider turned his great white stallion toward town.
Lone Ranger
We've seen enough, Toto.
Tonto
And what we do now?
Lone Ranger
The ride to Pine Creek. I want to be there when the owner of those boxes learns they were stolen. Come on, Silver.
Tonto
What box has to do with cattle thieves?
Lone Ranger
I don't know, Totto. I have a hunch or some connection. That's why I arranged for the gang to steal them.
Tonto
Maybe this time we find Clue to rustlers?
Lefty (Rustler)
I hope so.
Lone Ranger
Been on their trail for weeks.
Tonto
Them plenty bold now.
Lone Ranger
Yes, dan Hodge lost 40 cows last week. And three nights ago the Bar Z reported 60 head stolen.
Tonto
But nobody know where thieves take cattle.
Lone Ranger
That's what we've got to find out, Tahoe. I suspect the rustlers have an accomplice in the east. Man who sells the cattle and sends them the cash.
Tonto
That's why you want boxes.
Lone Ranger
Yes. We'll soon find out whether my suspicion was right or not. Come on, Silver.
Tonto
Get him up.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
Scoundrel.
Rustler
Get him up.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Oh s.
Narrator
Early the next day Pine Creek awakened to news of a stage robbery with mounting anger. Particularly furious was old Pop Frisbee who owned the harness store.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
You no count squint eyed, head scratching, horn toad.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
Now hold on.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Don't hold on me, Hop Larkin. What in thunder did the company give you a gun for if it wasn't to use?
Hop Larkin (Guard)
I'm telling you there was 13 of them.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
I don't care if there was 30. You're paid to guard that freight. Instead of that, you just sit there and let a couple of masked critters steal all the new harness I ordered.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
We told them them boxes wasn't worth stealing, Pop, but they wouldn't listen.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Not worth stealing? Why you walleyed sawed off, slow witted Mosshorn. The ranch has been waiting for that harness for weeks now. They'll cancel their orders now. Starve for lack of goods to sell. Not worth stealing, eh?
Hop Larkin (Guard)
You twisted my words, Pop. We were just trying to persuade them hombres to leave the boxes where they were.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
You couldn't persuade a gopher to crawl into its hole.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
If you'd let me explain.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
I'm stopping you, you tongue waggin mud turtle. It's what you come here for, ain't it?
Hop Larkin (Guard)
Yeah, but you keep talking so's I can't get a word in edgewise.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Talking, is it? And who's got a better right to talk? Did you expect me to kiss you when you told me all my new harness was stolen?
Hop Larkin (Guard)
If you just shut up.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Don't tell me to shut up, Hop Rockin. I just give you a chance to explain the hold up and you ain't had a thing to say. My thunder, when I think of you surrendering your guns as meek as a kitten to them thieving polecats when you were being paid to deliver my harness.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
I, I.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Dad. Bernard Larkin. If I. I don't think you're to cahoots with them critters.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
That ain't so.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Get out of here. You hammered down half wit. I ought to take the money for that stock out of your wages. But if you don't get out of my sight, by golly, you won't lift. Earn em.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
I'm going.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Or faster. I'll wrap this horse collar around your fat neck. Hold on now, Pop, or burn your hide. Larkin, you've knocked over all that stock. I just spent the whole morning raging. Now I'm mad for sure. I'll go through that. Oh, doggone it. He beat that horse collar to the door by a hair.
Narrator
As Hop Larkin hurried out the door of the harness store and down the steps to the street. Four men watched from nearby. Two were the Lone Ranger in Tonto. Concealed by the corner of a building. The remaining two watched from the window of a cafe.
Lone Ranger
Larkin seems anxious to get away from there, Totto.
Tonto
Ah, we go in now?
Lone Ranger
No, not yet. I noticed two other men waiting for Larkin to leave the store. Let them go first.
Tonto
Where you see them?
Lone Ranger
They're standing at the window. The back room of that cafe. They saw Larkin glue in Pop Frisbee's place. Look, they're coming out the door.
Tonto
Them strangers?
Lone Ranger
Yes. They're taking pains not to attract attention.
Tonto
Look like outlaw.
Lone Ranger
They have the shifty bearing of outlaws, Toddo, they may be some of the cattle thieves we've been hunting. They may not. Anyway, they ought to be well worth listening to. Come on.
Narrator
As the Lone Ranger and his faithful Indian friend made their way stealthily to the rear of Pop Frisbee's store, the two strangers crossed the street.
Lefty (Rustler)
I still say this is a hog wild idea, Ace calling on Frisbee in plain daylight.
Rustler
Quit beefing, Lefty. I told you we ain't got no choice. Boys want their pain, they want it today.
Lefty (Rustler)
We always call it night before.
Rustler
No, we can't wait for night this time.
Lefty (Rustler)
What if we're seen?
Rustler
What if we and a couple of strangers going to harness store without arousing
Lefty (Rustler)
suspicion ain't taking kindly to strangers in this town. Ever since the cattle rushed on commence days.
Rustler
Who'd know he was cow thieves? Get a grip on yourself, Lefty.
Lefty (Rustler)
It'll do us the same. I don't like it.
Rustler
You don't have to just take orders.
Lefty (Rustler)
What do you suppose the stagecoach guard was doing in Frisbee's store?
Rustler
I don't know. There's been some kind of excitement around here all morning. And here we are. Howdy, Pop.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
So what's you two?
Rustler
What's all the excitement in town this morning?
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
As if you didn't know, Ace.
Rustler
What do you mean you ain't pulling
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
any wool over my eyes, mister? Rustling cows wasn't enough for your slick, scheming brain. So you connived to steal the gang's pay.
Lefty (Rustler)
The old man must have gone local, Ace.
Rustler
We'll soon find out. Now, you loose jaw fool, explain yourself.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Mean to say you didn't take it?
Lefty (Rustler)
Take what?
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
The cash. The pay he was expecting.
Rustler
You mean you ain't got it?
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
That's what I've been trying to tell you, you lunkheads. Somebody stuck up the stage and stole all my boxes in new harness.
Lefty (Rustler)
The boys pay was in them boxes, Ace.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
So was that new harness I paid for.
Rustler
Left you were in a spot. All the cash was to pay us and the boys off of that last ship. And the kettle was in them cases.
Lefty (Rustler)
Yeah, and wait till the boys hear about it.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Your cash hadn't been in them cases, they wouldn't have been stolen.
Rustler
I'm wagering you've been shooting your mouth off pretty fast, Pop. How do we know you ain't in on this?
Me?
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Why, you yellow livered polecat. Maybe you made me receive that pay cash from the feller in the east you sell the cattle to. But I ain't never stole nothing in all my born days.
Lefty (Rustler)
See that you don't.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
I wouldn't have allowed you to conceal the cash in my harness shipments if you hadn't threatened to burn down my store.
Rustler
You showed rare good sense, Pup.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Yeah, well, I ain't showing it no more. That's the last pay cash is coming to you through me.
Lefty (Rustler)
You don't mean that, Pap.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
I sure do. If you two don't hightail it out of here fast, I'll be telling the sheriff who the leaders of the cattle rustlers are.
Rustler
I don't think you will, Pop.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
No?
Rustler
No. You're in this deal along with the rest of us. If you spill anything the sheriff about us, you'll just be slapping a jail sentence on yourself for being an accessory.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Maybe if I told the sheriff the whole truth. How you came and threatened me. Unless I did what you said, he'd let me off on good behavior.
Rustler
Pop's getting out of hand, Lefty.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
Yeah?
Lefty (Rustler)
We ought to do something that'll change his mind.
Rustler
Hand me that rope over there.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
What are you gonna do?
Rustler
Getting scared, Pop.
Lefty (Rustler)
Here's a rope ease.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Fine.
Rustler
I'll just hold Pop where the arm's Lefty while I knot this rope.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
What?
Lefty (Rustler)
Throat getting kind of dry, Pop.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
You won't get away with this, man.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
A nice hangman's Nut maybe after this
Lefty (Rustler)
he won't be so free with his tongue.
Rustler
I'm gonna give you a lesson on what it means to cross us, Pop. Thrust him forward.
Lone Ranger
Lefty.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
You'll hang for this.
Rustler
You wouldn't be one to change your mind about going to the sheriff, would you, Pop?
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
No. I ain't gonna be a go between for you fellas anymore.
Lefty (Rustler)
All right, Pop.
Rustler
You ask horse.
Lefty (Rustler)
Hey, what's up?
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
The mask man shot the rope right out of my hands.
Lone Ranger
I wouldn't use that rope like that again, Ace. Someday you might find yourself swinging from the end of one.
Rustler
Who are you?
Lone Ranger
You'll find out when the time comes. Meanwhile, I'm inviting you to go.
Lefty (Rustler)
You ain't frightening us, mister. We'll go when we're ready.
Lone Ranger
You go now, Lefty. Unless.
Rustler
Come on, Lefty. I got a feeling that six gun of his knows were not wanted.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
I don't know who you are behind that mask, mister, but you sure dropped in in the nick of time.
Lone Ranger
I saw them from the window. They won't bother you again, Frisbee.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Hey, it won't.
Lone Ranger
You mean I can't stop to talk now.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
Who are you? Wait.
Lone Ranger
You find something on the table that
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
may tell you something on the silver bullet? Silver bullet and a black mask. Jumping G horse. Well, he's the Lone Ranger.
Narrator
Once again, outside Pop Frisbee's harness store, the masked man was joined by Tonto.
Tonto
You shoot plenty straight and plenty fast.
Lone Ranger
Thanks, Tonto. You saw Ace and left.
Tonto
You leave the store, then leave in plenty big hurry. Ride west.
Lone Ranger
Follow them, Kimosabe. Locate their hideout. But make sure they don't know they're being trailed.
Tonto
Tonto. Sabi.
Lone Ranger
They've got to do more than find the leaders of the rustlers. They've got to locate their gang and prove their cattle thieves. Meanwhile, I've got a job to do. You mark the trail for me to follow later we'll meet near the rustlers camp.
Tonto
And what we do then?
Lone Ranger
We'll follow our original plan. Toto, the stolen cattle are quartered near the camp. We'll drive them in the right direction, then stampede the herd.
Tonto
Stampede? Plenty dangerous.
Lone Ranger
Yes, I know it, Kimosabe. It's our chance to corral the rustlers and stage robbers at one time.
Rustler
The curtain falls on the first act
Lefty (Rustler)
of our Lone Ranger story.
Rustler
Before the next exciting scenes, please permit
Lefty (Rustler)
us to pause for just a few moments.
Rustler
To realize the future America needs. We understand what's needed from us to face each threat head on. We've earned our place in the fight. For our nation's future. We are Marines. We were made for this.

Narrator
Now to continue our story. While Tonto trailed the two cattle rustlers, the masked man set out on a mysterious errand of his own. Meanwhile, at their camp in a not too distant ravine, the stagecoach robbers debated whether to open the spoils of their raid.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Come on, Red, let's see what's in them boxes.
Rustler
Yeah, boss, what's the point in waiting? We want to see what we got, Red.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Well, I told you before, the new boss says wait till he gets here.
Rustler
We've been waiting, Red, ever since we raided the stage last night. I say let's open them crates right now.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
That's what I say, Red. He's right.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
All right, all right.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
Open it up.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Well, I'll be.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
What's in that case, Pete?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Nothing but harness.
Rustler
Harness? You mean there ain't nothing else?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
I don't savvy this.
Rustler
We don't either, Red. You sure this new boss is on the level?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
As far as I know.
Rustler
Seems to me we was better off robbing stages before we took up with this new hombre.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
You're talking, Tom. What good's harnessed to us?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Hurry up and get that case open. Let's see what you got.
Rustler
I'm getting it, Red.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
This.
Rustler
This rope's a might stubborn.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
What's in it?
Rustler
Harness.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
More harness. I don't like the looks of this, Red.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
The stage driver said there weren't nothing worth stealing them boxes. I wonder.
Rustler
Looks to me like we've been crossed right.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
No, I ain't believing it yet. Tom, Open up another one of them Boxes.
Rustler
Just as you say. But if there's harness in this.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
You heard what the new boss said. He said to take whatever was aboard that stage.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
He said if there was any shooting at the stage, he'd hold us to account.
Rustler
Mighty peculiar for a hold up man, if you ask me.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
That's right, Tom. You sure got strange ways. Hey, wait a minute.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Did you find something, Pete?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Well, if I didn't, I'm seeing things. Look at this.
Rustler
Holy smoke. It's folding money.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Paper money and wants of it. But what do you know? I told you the new boss knew what he was doing.
Rustler
I don't say he does. How in thunder do you suppose he knew what was in them cases, Red?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
I don't know. But you better not try slipping any of that paper in your shirt before he gets here.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Hey, Red. New boss is riding this way now.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Hey, give me that cash, Tom.
Rustler
It's only a little, Red. Here, take half of it yourself. New boss will never miss it.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
I ain't taking any chances. He's got a habit when he talks to you. Looking right through you.
Rustler
All right, I'll put it back. But you're making a mistake.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
You're a little mixed up, Tom. I ain't aiming to make one.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Here he comes, Red.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Yeah, that sure is a pretty horse he's riding. Wouldn't mind having that mountain cell.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Whoa, whoa, Silver. Ho, ho, ho.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Howdy, boss. We. We've been opening them crates we took off the stage last night.
Lone Ranger
Easy, big fella. Oh, I see. What did you find in them?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Why, just a lot of harness, boss.
Lone Ranger
Didn't find any cash.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Oh, sure, sure, boss. I was just coming to that.
Tonto
Let's see it.
Rustler
Well, what you aiming to do with the money, boss?
Lone Ranger
Looking out for your split, huh?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
You can't blame us for that, seeing as we did the dirty work.
Lone Ranger
Money will be divided in the fairest way possible.
Rustler
That sounds reasonable enough, providing your ideas of what's fair coincide with ours.
Lone Ranger
Until then, I'll keep it.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Wait a minute, boss.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
We worked hard for ourselves.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
That's right, mister. We aren't aiming to be cheated.
Lone Ranger
You men aren't satisfied with the way I do business. Get someone else to mastermind your hold up.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Oh, hold on, boss. We didn't say we wasn't satisfied, did we, boys?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Oh, no, we're willing to work with you, mister.
Lone Ranger
Good. Those cases belong to Pop Frisbee, don't they?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Yeah, but that's new. That's new harness in them boxes. The boys and me kind of figured on trading in our horses. Worn out leather for the new stock.
Lone Ranger
Repack those cases. They're going on to Frisbee.
Rustler
You can't do that. We stole them cases. Them harnesses belong to us.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Yeah.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
You aren't figuring on crossing us, are you, mister?
Lone Ranger
What do you mean?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Well, first you take all the money and then you tell us you're sending the harness back too. What have we got to show for robbing the stage?
Lone Ranger
Oh, you want evidence of good faith, huh?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Yeah, that's it. Just to prove we can trust you.
Lone Ranger
Very well. Here, take the money.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Oh, thanks boys.
Lone Ranger
Remember, I'll be watching you.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Oh, we wouldn't try to cross you, boss.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Oh no, of course we wouldn't either.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
You don't when you're figuring for us to move.
Lone Ranger
Don't you like this camp I picked out for you?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Sheltered enough in this ravine, but there's only two ways out, the north and the south.
Lone Ranger
Stay here until daybreak and I'll come and take you to another camp. Be sure to have all of Frisby's cases packed on the horses and the horses ready to travel when I arrive.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Right. We'll be waiting for you at daybreak.
Lone Ranger
Be sure that you are. He's a good fellow.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
You can count on us.
Rustler
We'll be ready. Cases repacked and all home silver. Doggone if I know what to make of that masked fellow, Red.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Me either, Tom. But as long as he continues to engineer stick ups like this one, I'll take my cut and not get too curious.
Narrator
Arriving at Pine Creek again, it did not take the Lone Ranger long to pick up the trail which Tonto had so cleverly yet clearly marked for him. It was late that night when the two friends met near the rustlers camp.
Lone Ranger
Did you locate the hideout, Toto?
Tonto
Ah, it plenty clever, but me find
Lone Ranger
it good and the cattle that way. How many rustlers would you say were in the gang?
Tonto
I may not see them all, but they're plenty and plenty mad too over
Lone Ranger
the loss of their pay. Cash, huh? It's time for our plan now, Toto,
Tonto
you fine stage thief.
Lone Ranger
Yes, Red and his gang think I'm going to lead them to sudden riches. They promised to repack Frisbee's harness cases and be ready to ride at daybreak.
Tonto
Meant good.
Lone Ranger
We won't need any more evidence. However, the stage driver and the guard told the sheriff they could identify Red despite the mask he wore. We better have them with us.
Tonto
What we do?
Lone Ranger
We stampede the stolen cattle.
Tonto
Petty dangerous, but we try it.
Lone Ranger
Everything depends on Akimosabe. Come on, Silver.
Tonto
Clean him up, Scout.
Narrator
Meanwhile, in the rustlers camp nearby, an angry group of men faced their leaders, Ace and Lefty.
Lefty (Rustler)
Well, we heard witches, said Ace, but
Lone Ranger
that ain't paying us for the work we did.
Rustler
Who's gonna take care of that? Arnie's right, Ace. When do we get our pay?
Start out after them stage robin coyotes. Just as soon as we get rid of the cattle we got out there. You boys will get your payback and enjoy yourself doing it.
Tonto
You wouldn't lie to us, would you, Ace?
Rustler
About what?
Tonto
You wouldn't fake that story about our pay being lifted by a hold up just so's you and Lefty here could
Rustler
divvy the cash between yourselves.
Lone Ranger
You're going local cranberry.
Lefty (Rustler)
How could we expect you to help us ship them cattle out there if you thought you wasn't gonna get paid?
Rustler
Don't forget, boys. The cash Lefty and me got coming to us was on that stage too.
Yeah, that's right. I guess the chief's on the level.
Lefty (Rustler)
Well, just as you say, Ace. We ain't risking our pay no more by having it sending care of Pop.
Tonto
Frisbee. You think Frisbee crossed us, Ace?
Lone Ranger
I don't know.
Lefty (Rustler)
But you boys don't have to worry.
Rustler
We'll take care of Frisbee in our own good time.
Lefty (Rustler)
Hey, what's the matter with them cows?
Rustler
You're getting jumpy again, Lefty. Relax.
Lefty (Rustler)
Yeah, them steers ain't restless for nothing.
Rustler
You got plenty of men guarding the cattle, Bunny?
Tonto
Well, I got enough.
Lefty (Rustler)
But most of the boys come over here to see about a pig. Get them back there. Something's scaring them stairs.
Lone Ranger
Sure, Lefty.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
All right, come on, boys.
Lefty (Rustler)
I'm going too, Ace. Funny's going on out there and I aim to see what it is.
Rustler
I'll go with you, Lefty.
Lone Ranger
Get the horses.
Narrator
As Ace and Lefty and their gang went to see what was troubling the steers, two figures crept alongside the stolen cattle in the shadowy night. One was astride a powerful white stallion. The other rode a paint.
Lone Ranger
Dang knows there's something wrong, Toto. They're heading this way.
Tonto
We work fast.
Lone Ranger
Must be 300 head of cattle here. Hard to start them in the right direction. Ride as fast as you can to the rear of the herd. The cattle are between us and the camp. We won't be seen until we've started.
Tonto
That's right.
Lone Ranger
When you're ready, fire your rifle as a signal. I've heard the cattle from this flank.
Tonto
Which way?
Lone Ranger
We head straight for the ravine. Tarto.
Tonto
And Tarto's heavy. Get him up, Scout.
Lone Ranger
We've got our work cut out for us tonight, Silver. We can do it, huh, boy? All right, big fella. Let them see us yet. There's Toto's signal. Come on, Silver.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Hurt them, Silver. Hurt. Good boy, Silver. We've got them on the run. Come on, big fella.
Narrator
Gathering headway, the huge herd of longhorns spurred with the shots and the shrewd maneuvering of the masked man and his Indian friend thundered for the ravine. Too late. Ace and Lefty and their men arrived
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
to cut them off.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
They're stampeding the cattle.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Who?
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Hello. Somebody is riding a white horse. Look over there. There's an engine.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
What are we waiting for? Let's get them pails.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Afro men. Kill them cattle thieves.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
We ran them down a.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
We'll get them.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Hey, boss, them cats have turned and they're heading this way. Circle around. Get behind them coyotes and shoot them down.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
And them cows are gone wild, Ace, we can't stop them.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
We've got to. All our pains tied up on them stairs.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
They're heading to the ravine.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Well, don't let them cut him off.
Narrator
Through the ravine thundered the stampeded herd as the rustlers struggled vainly from behind to stem the tide. Meanwhile, shortly before daybreak, Red and his stage robbers awaited the lone rangers return.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
Hey, Red, how much longer do we have to wait for the new boss? Even the horses are getting restless.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
Oh, not much longer, Pete. We got ready a night too early. It's just breaking light in the east.
Rustler
Well, I hope the new camp he's got in mind for us has more outlets than this one. If you. We're aiming to leave in a hurry.
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
There's only two ways of getting out of this ravine. North and south.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
What's that? Listen.
Rustler
Them's cattle, boss. They're heading up this ravine. Cattle?
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
What would a herd of steers be coming through here for?
Pete (Stagecoach Robber)
They ain't just coming, Red. They're stampeding. Look there.
Rustler
Yeah. We got to get out of here, Red. We'll be draft.
Red (Stagecoach Robber Leader)
All right, boys, on your horses and travel.
Narrator
There's only one way we can travel,
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
boss, and that's solid.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Get up there.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Get up.
Sam (Closing Announcer)
Get up.
Narrator
Long through the narrow ravine swept the stampeded steers. On their heels came the rustlers, waiting now for the cattle to tire. So intent were they, they didn't realize each second took them nearer to Pine Creek.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
After them. They're beginning to tire. When they do, we'll round them up and Turn them back.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
We're almost to the end of the ravine.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
What do you suppose those zombies want to stand, feed the cows for, then
Narrator
run off and leave them?
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
They say nothing. So they ain't with the steers anymore, are they?
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Sure seems funny to me.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Becoming open country.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Yeah, too blamed open. That's Pine Creek ahead.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Pine Creek? We can't go there. The sheriff will Navas for sure.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Boys, let them cows go on. Turn back.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Come on, let me. Let's hug it out of here.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Say, who's that coming?
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
I don't. Lefty.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
What?
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
It's a mask man.
Rustler
Again.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
He's got a posse with him.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Come on, Ace, that's right up where you are.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
You'll stub a bullet right up there, you men. We got you around. It's true, Lefty. Look, there's men riding down the sides of the ravine.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
Yeah, and with the cattle in front and the ass man behind, we ain't got a chance.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Well, he ain't taking me without a struggle.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
I'll show.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Oh, my hand. Didn't think I'd have to teach you a lesson twice. Ace, stop that gun.
Pop Frisbee (Harness Store Owner)
$.
Ace (Rustler Leader)
All right, you got us.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
That mask tricked you boys. You're making a mistake.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
That cow stopped right out of town. The ranchers are picking out their own brands now. Guess that, Bru. You stole them.
Lone Ranger
Well, our tails are useless, Ace. You see, the stage robbers were driven into town ahead of the cattle. Sheriff has him in jail right now with them. The boxes they stole from the stage.
Rustler
You mean the pay cash, too?
Lone Ranger
Yes, Ace, the pay cash, too. Pop Frisbee is anxious to tell the sheriff his story.
Lefty (Rustler)
Man, we've been fixed, Ace.
Hop Larkin (Guard)
You're doggone right you have. And by the slickest zombie that ever rode the reins.
Tom (Stagecoach Robber)
Say, who is that mask on?
Hop Larkin (Guard)
Mister, you've been matching wits with the Lone Ranger,
Sam (Closing Announcer)
Sam.
