Now the Cisco Kid in our gripping story Dynamite on the Right of Way, the building of the railroad to the west was truly an epic achievement. Progress was marked by opposition and intrigue, sometimes by gunplay and bloodshed. But the men behind the building of the road had foresight and used it. Which is why, as our story opens, the Cisco Kid and his constant companion, Poncho are seated in the terminal city office of Alan Rainey, Western division Superintendent. Cisco is saying, see, I have heard of Wally Moran Sierra. He's a conference man who has served at least one Prison sentence. He a bad umbrella, Rainey? Yes, he is indeed. Morenz will stop at nothing to gain his aims continuously. Rainey, we listen, huh? Well, two weeks ago I got word that Marens has bought up all the land along the railroad proposed right away through both the valley, see? And our representative, Steve Thomas, is now on his way to Gopher Valley to try to make turns with Marin. But I don't think he'll be able to, Lorenzo, charge a fabulous price for that land cerso. I do not understand, Signor Rainey. Do you not deal with the States and in one or two cases, the territories for your right of way? Yes, but due to an inexcusable error in surveying, just plain carelessness, Gopher Valley is a free parcel. It hasn't been allocated to the state. It borders it. And all you gotta do, Senor Rennie, is wait. But we can't wait, Pancho. Not to wait. Matter may not be settled for months, but with all the required red tape. Meanwhile, the rails must keep going down. I begin to see your problem, senor. Have you no alternate right of way? Yes, we have one that skirts Gopher Valley. It's a rough country, though. Through a narrow, deep gorge and up through a mountain pass by a big mountain lake. Yes, that's right. I know the blade. It's going pine to catch the fish out that lake. See you. We don't want to put the right of way through there unless we have to. But it looks as though we might have to. Well, what do you want Pancho and me to do? Say uranium? I want you to act as troubleshooter, Cisco. We don't meet Lorenzo's price, he's going to get ugly. And I understand he's got a big gang of thugs at his back. You have a construction crew in that country, have you not? Yes, and they're tough boys, but they can't keep watching Marines all the time. That's what I want you to do. I want you to keep an eye on them. How will you do it? Well, there's a large order, Senor Rainey. Oh, you can handle it, Cisco. We want to prevent murders. Well, Barnto and I will do our best for you, Sayor. Tell us something about your representative, Senior Thomas, and then we will start at once. Whoa. Oh, boy. Whoa. Hey, Marens, you in there? It's me, Blay Stobby. Thought you'd be here at your office, but I wasn't sure. What do you want? Reckon your railroad man's in the way here. Thought you might want to know Stranger got off the stage at Drover Flats. Hired himself a saddle horse at the stable. Look out there in the plane. He's riding this way. Might be him at that place. I thought that blessed railroad had come to terms. And they'll come to my terms too. Want me here when he comes in. Oh, you clear out. All right. Wait a minute, Blaze. On second thought, you better hear what's said. Go into that inside office and shut the door. Whatever you say, Marant. Now we'll see. Howdy, stranger. Ain't nobody else. My name's Thomas. I'm from the railroad. Oh, fine, fine. Have a chair, Mr. Thomas. Thanks. Well, I'll come right to the point. Marens, what do you take for this land of yours? A quarter of a million dollars. You have a sense of humor. That's my price. The railroad's prepared to offer you 50,000. A quarter of a million, Thomas. That's a firm price. Well, in that case, I wish you Good day, Mr. Moran. That sure was quick. He'll be back. He'll have to meet my price. The road ain't got no other way to go. Oh, yes, it has, Morens. They got the right of way through Black Gorge. Who told you that? I got a cousin working in the railroad offices in Terminal City. He keeps me posted. Why didn't you tell me that before? I thought you knew. I have a great mind. Easy now, Moranz. I'll get rough. Mighty handy with these guns of mine. All right, all right. Don't stand there talking. Get in the boy's house. Take the roundabout trail and lay in wait for that hombre by the creek, the foot of Cottonwood Hill. Bring him back here. I'll make him sign that contract. I'll get going. It's good to be back in this country, Cisco. Say, Poncho, it is good in the city. There's too many people. It's too much noise. Well, I agree with you on that score too, Chico. But it is good for us to go to the city once in a while. Just once in a while. Makes us appreciate the open country all the more where we go Nazi school. Well, we will go south from here to the railroad construction camp. Amigo, this Cottonwood Hill no see. We'll introduce ourselves to Senior Steve Thomas. He's probably at the camp. Wait a minute, Pancho. Hold on. What are those hombres doing down at the foot of the hill there? Where's this go? Down by the creek. Down by the creek? Taking trouble behind the rocks and trees. Four or five of them, maybe. They play hide and deceit. No, There's a horseman riding across the plain. Maybe they. Hold that. See? It might be. Come on, Pancho. You and I are going down that hill. Walk down. Of course. Rode down. They will hear our horses. Follow me. And enough brush on these hills so we can remain hidden from their view as we walk down. Only time is walk down. We got to walk up. Geto do not want those hombres to hear us or see us just yet. Let's wait here for a second, Poncho. Wait here. Wait here. That's him, boys. That's that blasted railroad hombre. When I give the word, grab him and haul him down off that horse. We're taking him back to Marin. Now stay down out of sight. You must be senior Thomas Cisco. Hey, let us get down closer to those. Andres. Pancho. They're ready now, boys. Rough the umbre up. No, sir, Pancho. All right, now. Get your hands up, Julio. Quick. Hey, it's a disco kid. Get those hands up. Better do what he says, boys. Say, that's what's this all about. You are Senor Steve Thomas. Oh, that's right. These hombres were willing to take you back to Morens. I heard them say so. You hombres unbuckle your gun bells. Now, look, do us entertain to it at once. All right, Poncho. See? Pick them up and throw them down that Oreo. Just to remove temptation until we are out of range. Bueno, Pancho. We will ride with you. See you, Thomas. You two ain't heard the last of this. Tell your boss the rest of his schemes will fail as this one did. Let us go to you, Thomas. Did you say the Cisco Kid? That's right, Marens. He got the drop on us from behind. Oh, you bungling fools. Now Thomas will have nothing more to do with me. Reckon he made up his mind to that before? No, you idiots. I'd ought to fire the whole bunch of you. I tell you, it ain't our fault. No man I know is going to face down the Cisco kids guns. Here's something else. Cisco sent you a message. What was it? To tell you the rest of your schemes would fail, too. Fail nothing. I'm going to keep that railroad from building through the gorge if it's the last thing I do tonight. I want you, Aubrey's, to go up to that lake and dynamite the outlet. Half a dozen sticks will open it up so the water will sweep down into that gorge. Now you're talking, Miranda. Then I want you to go after that construction crew with rifles. And finally, I want you to gun down that blasted Cisco Kid. Shoot to kill before I get through with that railroad. They'll be glad to pay my price. That looked like the sheriff's office. See Poncho in the town of Black Gorge. The town's quite a ride from the actual gorge. These are your state, but the way events are shaping up, I believe it is worth our time to ride over here. Oh, sure. But Jimmy says the sheriff won't do anything. Who carries things. He's the boss of the construction gang. At least we will give him the chance to do something. He command the office. Howdy, Jim. What can I do for you? Oh, you're a Cisco Kid, ain't you? See, Sheriff? Oh, sure glad to meet up with you. Gracias. This is Senor Steve Thomas, representing the railroad. This is M. Pompeiro. Pancho. Howdy, Pancho. Bunny started, Senor Sherry. I reckon you boys come here to get me to go over to Gopher Valley and get after Wally Moren's, didn't you? How'd you know this Theater? Sheriff Terry's been over here more than once. We came to report an ambushing of Senor Thomas by Moran's men. Sheriff, if it hadn't been for Cisco here and Pancho, I might have been pretty badly beaten up. Where and when did this happen? Early this afternoon at the foot of Cottonwood Hill. That's part of Gopher Valley. Sorry, gents, but I can't help you. Why not? Because Gopher Valley is a free parcel. How can it be a free parcel when Lorenz has bought up all that land? As far as the state and the county's concerned, it is so. I got no right step in there. You mean you would let a crowd of bond beetles go unchecked within a few miles of here? As long as they stand Gopher Valley yell once they get out of there, it'll be a different matter. God say your sheriff. No use arguing about it, Cisco. That's the way things are. It's the way they're going to be. Good day to you. He's a fine sheriff. That you're a fine sheriff. No, let us not blame him too much. Technically, he might be right. Well, that doesn't help us in this case. Well, here is my advice, Senor Steve. Under cover of night, Poncho and I will ride back into Gopher Valley. We will try to find out Moren's plans, more troubles. Meanwhile, you go back to the construction camps. Have the men ready for anything that May develop. Let us go, Poncho. All right, you armored. Listen to what I tell you. As soon as it gets real dark, I want you to start for that mountain lake. Take dynamite, huh? Take plenty of it. There's a couple of boxes out on the shed. I already got a dozen sticks in my saddlebag. Well, that ought to be enough. Just be sure you blast out enough of a channel so the lake will empty down into the gorge. Right. Then after that. Hey, who in thunder is this? Like you, Slim? Yeah, I've been trailing the Cisco Kid. Him and his partner riding in here. Now, are you sure then? Of course I am sure. All right, your arm. Get out of here. Take cover around the place. Blaze, put out them lamps. Right. And if any of you get a beat on Cisco, shoot to kill. They have a ho ho ho ho ho ho. Now we leave our horses in this grow. Aren't you near those buildings, Cisco? The idea, Cho. All right, now, come on. No life that I'm sarcastic. School nobody home. I am not so sure, amigo. But if you are right, then we will get in and search that house. I might find something the railroad could use against Marans. Right this way. It's too steel, Cisco. All right, boys, open up. Follow me. Pancho, please wait. They are all around us. Run for that shed, Poncho. You can get undercover there. Yeah, run for the shed, you stool. Think they would expect us tonight? All right, down. Punch up better than for. Why don't you hit f Chin on the box? He's go now. We got you, Cisco. Soon as one of these bullets hits that dynamite in there, you'll be blowing sky high. Dynamite? Those boxes? Let me look. They don't be as right. Any moment one of those bullets will hit these dynamite. And with deadly accuracy. The outlaws are shooting at the boxes of dynamite. In just a moment we'll return to the Cisco Kid.

Now back to the Cisco Kid in our gripping story Dynamite on the right of way. Because through careless surveying, a section of land known as Gopher Valley had been declared a free parcel and bought up by the outlaw Wally Moren, the railroad changed its proposed right of way, whereupon Morin swore he would force the road to pay his price. In an attempt to learn the outlaw's plans, Zisco and Pancho rode into Gopher Valley. But Morenz, forewarned, had his men surround our friends and open fire. Cisco and Pancho took refuge in a small shed, only to find they were literally sitting on two large boxes of dynamite. No, you slow, boy. I attacked out that dynamite. Hey, dynamite partially when they say his history. Find you an army place. Otherwise we cannot rush out into that hail of bullets back at those rifle. Pl. San. The bullet chipped the edge of this box here. Migo, you all right? I'd rather be hit by a bullet and blown to pieces by this dynamite. Don't they know we got to keep them two pent up in there? Did you hear that, Poncho? They're going to the lake. In fact, I hear nothing but those bullets he stole. Ah, now our chances of escape are better. Chico. Yes, What? What we do? Mad me another bullet. Shift the box. We'll take our chances and run for it. Pancho, run for the grove. It is darker out now. That may help spoil their aim. Panch didn't like to run, but Pancho run. This time Pancho beat the antelope. No. All right, get ready. Keep firing now.
B
Come on.
A
Keep firing. Pancho. Very cool to hit that dynamite. Poncho. We got out there just in time. Almost snapped down. So far so good. That was the closest car we ever had. Is very scarce. Hey, anyone would be. But the night's work is not finished. Amigo where we go now, Please, go to the lake. Unless I'm greatly mistaken, those bonas are planning to dynamite that lake down into the gorge. More dynamite. More dynamite. More dynamite. Well, there's the lake, Steve, you're in. With this moonlight, you can see it. Moss as clear as day. Yeah. Now you've seen the lake, shall we be riding back to camp? No, we're going to stay right here, Kelly. But this is joking. You must be Steve. True, this Lorenz the scanteen. But he's not bad enough to dynamite this lake. I don't agree with you, Kelly. Neither does the Cisco Kid. Lorenzo would do anything to force me to sign that contract to buy his Gopher Valley land. But a dynamite, a leg? He not only would do it, but he may try to do it. I wish he'd go back and turn off that construction gang of yours. Oh, now, Steve, those boys work hard all day long. When night comes, they. They want to be sleeping. Sure, I can't ask them to come up here. If I did, they might quit their jobs. Of course, you're over me, Steve. So if you insist. Now, we better take no chances. Kelly, Cisco thinks we should have men on guard up here. As you say, then. Oh, my. Yeah. Four days, hombres. Miranda's men. We're too late, Kelly. Well, look who's here, boys. Mr. Thomas. Get your hands up, both of you. I dare you to say that to me. With me feet on the ground. Stand still. We're gonna pull it through. You couple of your hombres take their guns, tie them up and we'll take them both back to the ranch. Friends will be mighty glad to meet up with Mr. Thomas again. You may as well save yourself the trouble, Marino. Get no satisfaction from me. Don't worry. He's got ways in me. A couple of ombre. Take a pack. Rest of you get busy and plant that dynamite. We're getting near the lake now, Cisco. Hey, hold up. Slow down. We are on the trail of those bandidos. The other trail from Gopher Valley comes in here. Pancho, if they took that trail, they would have to cross here. It's light enough to see this. Go. They cross here. No memento, Pancho. Your tracks. See, they did. A big gang of them, too. I was right. Then. They headed for the lake. Pancho, I would like you to ride to the construction camp. Find out if the men have turned out with their guns. You ride there, too. No, Chico. I must keep on to the lake. If they have not turned out, get them going at Once. Barn fetos mean business. There's no question of that. Who are these riders? Yeah, in among those. Come on. Wait here. Off the trail. Why? You think this is for a Kelly? Be taken by such a thousand shields I got you tried to shut me up. Take it easy, Kelly. No point in antagonizing him. Yeah, these calls for some action. Stop right there. You want me? Hey, get the roof. I told you, Cisco. Stay here. Steve, you bantido. Stand off those horses. My next bullet will do more than just shoot the gun out of your hand, Coyote. Down off those horses. Turn your backs. Keep your hands up. Sure enough to try to watch you walk. Cisco, take your guns. Crush them in the bushes. Now you always slide down the ground. Face down. Quickly. Just go. Now, Senior Steve and Senior Kelly. I will cut the ropes to tie you. Thanks. How about using this rope to tie up those two, huh? I was about to suggest it to you, Steve. And be helping you, Steve. I'm afraid I can put a good fight with them. You will have plenty of fighting later on. Unless I miss my guests. Tie them tightly. Drag them off the trail and lead them. We'll come back for them later. Wait a minute, boys. Get your guns ready. That's near enough, hombre. Where do we get a look at you? That's me. She was waiting back at the ranch, boss. I decided to ride up here. You know what was going on? Come by the old back trail. Then you didn't meet the boys with Thomas and Kelly. You got them two Blaze sure thing. Nabbed him right here. Then I'm back to the ranch reader to talk to. Well, now I'm here. I'll saal this shot finished. Now hurry about seeing Thomas. He'll keep your armor. Get back to work planting that dynamite. Yeah, it's taking you a long time to do this, cla. What's the matter? Well, we had to do some hand drilling, Moran, to get the dynamite set in the best places. We're going to have to blast that ledge to make a big enough outlet for the water. Ain't you got a drill yet? Yeah. Now the boys are just planting the dynamite. Another couple of minutes, we can touch her off. I'll make it fast. The sooner the water starts down into that gorge, the better I like it. And the quicker Thomas will sign that contract. A good fight you will get that Singer Kelly. I'm sure. Now, let's make no noise just above us. How many dynamites did you find? One at half a dozen. Moran. That ought to be more than plenty. Shut up. I'm afraid they heard that when you're killing. Hey, somebody said something down there in the flat. Marin, any of our boys down there? I don't believe so. We'll rush them now, Senoris. Before Marin will give the order to pass out that anyway. Up this way. Come on. Better take a look down there, Blaze. I sure will. Hey, look out, Moran. Three on break. All right, I'll break. I don't know. Take a hand in the sk. You will not do any gunning. Only is the rest of your clue that these will not fire. They're hitting you. This is a nice big jaw. You have your shotgun and a nice target front to. Hey, boys. I better dispose of you more Red. Give my attention to another O3. You won the fight here tonight. I hope this is enough for you. I didn't want to fight. You are doing all right. Hey, Pancho, over here. Crawl over by the dynamite. He's biting the fuel. We will take care of that to your team right now. Pancho, you are in my way. Cisco, could I hurt? Out of my way. I tell you. That news is burning. Oh, you don't just go off, Sonya. Your aim is poor. Henrietta, take that gun out of your hand. This. Watch your planet. I take care of these dynamite. The fuse has burn short. Have to throw the whole thing out. Nice work. Just going mighty nice. I'm going to see to it that the railroad awards you for this. As you say you, Steve. But let us not think of that. Let us round up these homies and take them to the sheriff. Perhaps this time he will place them under arrest. There's very much a sight from Cisco in Buffalo Valley. Not to last me for some time, Chico. Same for Pancho. The railroad goes through Gopo Valley now? No. See, the state got around to taking over that three parcel in time. So the railroad could build through there. That's good. Someday they have a big town in Boba Valley, no? Oh, it's possible, Poncho. That many houses, stores. I didn't have a zoo. She's close. A zoo? Well, they might someday. But how did you happen to think of a zoo? I remember the time Franco and Uncle Jose take Pancho to the zoo. When you were a little boy, Pancho. A little boy? Look like much sense this. So the zookeeper mean what he say. Well, what did the zookeeper say, amigo? Uncle Jose, they like to make a joke. So Uncle Jose say to the zookeeper, I'd like to have this zoo for this little boy. And what did the zookeeper say to that poncho, he look at me and then he say, well, I like to have this little boy for the zoo. No. Oh. And so ends another exciting adventure with O. Henry's famous Robin Hood of the west, the Cisco Kid. Foreign.

True to its origins, this Cisco Kid episode delivers classic western heroics: daring rescues, upright lawmen hamstrung by legal loopholes, larger-than-life villains, and plenty of lively banter. Good triumphs by wit, bravery, and the unbreakable partnership of Cisco and Pancho — a formula that, as this lovingly restored audio drama shows, continues to captivate.
