Now that this gold kid and are exciting story. Gold in the Conestoga, the Red basin country of the old Southwest, was a great natural saucer. It had a few trees, a great deal of pagebrush, but not many inhabitants. But it was here in this basin that Josh Dunbar homesteaded when he came west. And it was here, as our story opens, that the Cisco Kid and his constant companion The Roly Poly Poncho were riding.
Cisco Kid
Quite a country, Cisco. Eh, Poncho?
Poncho
It is quite a country.
Cisco Kid
Make Pancho thirsty to arrive in this country.
Poncho
Well, we will stop at Senor Josh Dunbar for some water. Ah, there is his place right ahead of us.
Cisco Kid
Hello, Senor Dunbar. Living in Scottish?
Poncho
I'm not sure, Chico, but I think around 25 years.
Cisco Kid
25 years, eh? Oh, it's a long time just to sit and look at this sage, bro.
Poncho
I suspect Senor Dunbar has been doing more than just sitting and looking at the sagebrush.
Cisco Kid
Oh, he come from the barn to meet us. What is this?
Poncho
Are you Dunbar?
Cisco Kid
What is this? Say, Dunbar, where's this go? How you trying to do?
Josh Dunbar
What brings you to this part of the country again?
Poncho
Well, we are just riding through.
Cisco Kid
Say, you're done by not going nowhere. Just ride through.
Poncho
We would like some water for our horses and ourselves, seor, I.
Josh Dunbar
Sure, sure thing, Cisco. Bring your horses right over to the craw.
Cisco Kid
Gracious. Come on, Dabble. Come on something.
Josh Dunbar
You and Poncho help yourselves from the spigot. After that, I'm going to ask a favor of you.
Cisco Kid
Good word. Feel cool all the way down to Foncho's clothes. Ah, is fine water.
Poncho
Well, name the favor, Senor Dunbar and Foncho and I will do our best to oblige you.
Josh Dunbar
Well, finally I persuaded my brother Will to come out here from the east. See, he's coming by Conestoga wagon.
Cisco Kid
I send him a map for how to get here.
Josh Dunbar
But Will ain't any too good at following direction. Leastways he never used to be. I ain't had eyes on him for most 30 years.
Cisco Kid
That's a long time. He a big boy now.
Josh Dunbar
I don't know whether I'll know him or not.
Poncho
I don't know either.
Josh Dunbar
But according to my record reckoning, we should have been here yesterday afternoon. I wonder, Cisco, if you and Poncho would ride east to the big rise and see if you can see anything of a Conestoga.
Poncho
We'll be glad to do that.
Cisco Kid
Say, of Josh, I wouldn't be so
Josh Dunbar
concerned it weren't for them two bank robbers riding all over the basin.
Cisco Kid
Bank robbers?
Poncho
This is the first we have heard of them, senor.
Josh Dunbar
Yeah. The sheriff and a big posse called here early this morning. Seems that late yesterday afternoon two robbers walked into the bank in town, shot the cashier dead and got away with several thousand dollars in gold. They're still here in the Basin Police boys. Sheriff Haney thinks so.
Poncho
Sheriff Haney?
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Poncho
Oh, of course this is his county now.
Cisco Kid
He is quite a sheriff, that one.
Poncho
His method is to arrest everybody he sees on general principles.
Cisco Kid
Well, we hope to bring you good
Poncho
news, senor, when we come back.
Cisco Kid
We hope to say he comes to a brother in a kind of sober.
Poncho
Wait a minute, Muddy.
Cisco Kid
Who the hell.
Neil Aiken
Ain't any sense riding around the basin like this.
Cisco Kid
We gotta hole up somewhere and do it quick. Yeah, but where? No point holing up where there's no water. Neil, maybe we better hide this gold somewhere and ride the north trail out of here.
Neil Aiken
Ah, by now the sheriff got every trail out of the basin covered up. Hey, what's that coming there to be east?
Cisco Kid
Hey, it's a big wagon.
Narrator
Yeah.
Neil Aiken
Thomas Stilgar.
Cisco Kid
Maybe it's a trick, Neil. Maybe the sheriff's got some men in that wagon.
Neil Aiken
Ah, don't be crazy. The sheriff would never think of nothing like that in a million years. Where'd I put the glasses on that wagon?
Cisco Kid
Who is it? Anybody you know, Neil?
Neil Aiken
No, it's some old armory. Driving them horses. I got an idea of what it is.
Cisco Kid
Come on, get up. Get up. When we get there, you take a
Poncho
look at the back of that wagon. See if anybody's in there.
Cisco Kid
All right. Howdy, old timer.
Josh Dunbar
Howdy.
Cisco Kid
Hey, any boys can tell me if I'm on the right field? Is George Dunbar's, please? I reckon so. Got business with Josh Dunbar? I'm his brother. I haven't seen him for a good many years, but I'm much farther. Is it? Oh, a few more miles. Hey, Flop. He's all the way out here from Kansas. Nobody else seemed to liken me. Hey, what are you snooping around my wagon for? You came along. Yes, I did. It's just the setup we want, Muddy. Hey, you. You put a wing that gun, Richard.
Neil Aiken
Sure, after I make sure you won't do no more talking.
Cisco Kid
No, no,
Neil Aiken
I'll take care of him.
Cisco Kid
Come here, Muddy. Give me a hand. What are you going to do to me?
Neil Aiken
Get this body into the wagon, cover it up, and then we'll get the saddles off our horses to turn the horses loose.
Cisco Kid
You mean we're going to take over the town of Tilga?
Neil Aiken
That's just what I mean.
Cisco Kid
You heard what he said about not
Neil Aiken
seeing his brother for years. Well, they tell me I look older than I am. Maybe I can pass off as Josh Dunbar's brother.
Cisco Kid
But Josh Dunbar knows you, don't. He?
Neil Aiken
Never set eyes on me, far as I know. Anyway, all we need to do is fool him just long enough for the sheriff to call off the potsy and then we'll get out of the country. Come on, come on, let's get busy.
Cisco Kid
Think that wagon got off the trail, Cisco?
Poncho
We have not yet got to the right sponcho. Let us not be impatient.
Cisco Kid
Not be impatient? There's some dust to the side, Chisco. Maybe that'll wagon.
Poncho
Though I do not think the wagon would kick up all that dust. I'd rather believe a number of riders are making that dust. Oh, there's the wagon, Chico. Just coming over the rise.
Cisco Kid
Yeah, see it don't buy rudder.
Poncho
Hey, let us wait in here. Hold up, hold up, hold up.
Cisco Kid
Nice to see you as Josh to have his brother with him.
Poncho
Must be very lonesome for him living there by himself.
Sheriff Haney
What is the essay of Dunbar?
Cisco Kid
Your brother not very fairy, Cisco. He not answer us.
Poncho
Oh, he does not seem to be. However, let us ride alongside the wagon, Foncho.
Cisco Kid
Come on, Diablo. Go go alongside the wagon.
Poncho
You are Senor Will Dunbar, are you not?
Sheriff Haney
That's right.
Poncho
Your brother sent me out to meet
Narrator
you and make sure you know the
Cisco Kid
way to his place.
Poncho
I know the way.
Cisco Kid
You two armories can ride on about your business. You will as well as Senor Justice.
Poncho
Go.
Cisco Kid
Something is wrong here, Poncho.
Poncho
But he call us hombres. That is a word that is not
Cisco Kid
used in the East. Maybe he just talked and tried like I do out west.
Poncho
I do not think so. He used it just a little too naturally. I am going to ask on your Will Dunbar a few more questions, Pancho.
Cisco Kid
Few questions, see? Oh, look, Cisco is sure of hating the pot.
Poncho
Be on your guard, Pancho. Anything may happen.
Cisco Kid
Now, what is this here, Sheriff?
Sheriff Haney
Well, boys, look at who here. The Cisco here.
Cisco Kid
Not forget Poncho, Sheriff. Poncho here too.
Sheriff Haney
Do you want us to check the town of St. Sheriff? Oh, no, that's your Dunbar's brother. J told me about him this morning. The man I want is Cisco.
Poncho
Now look here, senior sheriff, let us have none of your nonsense.
Cisco Kid
Nonsense nothing.
Sheriff Haney
Oh, I ain't seen you rob the bank, Cisco. And I ain't saying you didn't. But I got unless somebody. Ain't that right, boy? And it might as well be you as anybody else around them, boy.
Poncho
Sheriff, I'm in no mood to travel with you, Poncho. And I know nothing whatever about the Bunk robbery.
Cisco Kid
We just get to these countries. Sure, that's what they all say.
Sheriff Haney
And I'm going to take in on sufficient suspicion.
Poncho
Get ready to ride, Poncho.
Cisco Kid
Easy, Stu.
Sheriff Haney
I ain't so sure about what? You're the guilty ones anyway, Cisco.
Poncho
Sheriff Haney, did you ever know what to rob a bank? No.
Josh Dunbar
But did you ever know us to
Cisco Kid
commit a crime of any kind?
Sheriff Haney
No. But there's always a first time. And you and Poncho both got a
Cisco Kid
guilty look about you.
Sheriff Haney
Wrap them, boys. Why won't you submit to now? We got you want to hurt you. Hit nothing. Anyway,
Cisco Kid
Every time we meet Sheriff Haney,
Poncho
he blames us for some crime. And he knows better. One of these days, I'm going to have a definite understanding with Sheriff Haney. And I mean definite.
Neil Aiken
Yeah, that worked out mighty well for us, Muddy.
Cisco Kid
Yes, it did. Couldn't see anything from inside this wagon, though.
Neil Aiken
Yeah, well, worked out fine as far as I'm concerned. I'm mighty pleased to have that Cisco Kid off my trail.
Cisco Kid
They say he's a bad one.
Neil Aiken
There's no doubt about that.
Cisco Kid
But the way that Fosse is going
Neil Aiken
after Cisco, they'll chase him into the
Cisco Kid
middle of next week. Blaming him for the bank robbery.
Sheriff Haney
That's pretty good, too.
Cisco Kid
Yeah. Say, Neil, it's hotter than blue places inside this wagon. How's chances for me to get out to stretch my legs and get a breath of air?
Neil Aiken
Now, you stay where you are, Muddy. We'll be at Joshua's ranch in just
Cisco Kid
a few more minutes. I don't want to take no chance of you being spotted.
Neil Aiken
Things have worked out too well so far. Yep. Too well all together.
Poncho
Wait in this little royal poncho next the party. Because Sheriff Haney likes to ride fast all the time. And when he gets off the main trail, he cannot ride so fast.
Cisco Kid
But she's called what sheriff. He do when the bandidos leave the main trail. He still keeps after them at full
Poncho
gallop on the trail.
Cisco Kid
Henry not catch that many bandidos then?
Poncho
Very seldom. Pancho.
Cisco Kid
Pancho. Hear the Pancho coming now. She's cool.
Poncho
He's very departing now, Pancho, we will ride back to the west. I am not satisfied with that hombre in the Conestoga. And I doubt very much if he is Senior Dunbar's brother. Come on over.
Neil Aiken
We're just coming into the yard now, Muddy. Better keep your rifle handy.
Cisco Kid
Not a good rifle to me when I can't see to shoot and cut
Neil Aiken
a hole in the side canvas. Better cut a hole in both. Here he comes out from the house.
Cisco Kid
Well, howdy, Josh. Howdy. You will? Why, sure. Can't you tell?
Josh Dunbar
Yep, I can tell. And you ain't Will Dunbar? I ain't seen my Brother for years. But there was a family resemblance in his face then. And he wouldn't have lost it all by this time.
Sheriff Haney
Hey, here comes that Cisco Kid.
Cisco Kid
Who said that? Who's in the wagon?
Neil Aiken
All right, I won't try to fool you no more. But if you try to give us away to Cisco, you're a dead man. My partner's inside that wagon with a rifle and I'll have you covered from inside your house.
Josh Dunbar
All right, what do you want me to do?
Neil Aiken
Get rid of Cisco and Poncho without arousing their suspicions.
Cisco Kid
Tell them your brother's in the house arrest.
Sheriff Haney
Tell them anything, only get rid of them.
Poncho
Well, I see your brother got here.
Josh Dunbar
Say, or.
Cisco Kid
Josh.
Neil Aiken
All right.
Cisco Kid
Hey. Yeah, yeah, he did.
Josh Dunbar
Cisco.
Cisco Kid
He's in the house.
Poncho
Are you quite sure he was your brother?
Josh Dunbar
What would he be doing here if he wasn't?
Cisco Kid
Cisco?
Poncho
Your point is well taken, senior. Josh. Just the same, I will have a look in the back of this wagon.
Sheriff Haney
Oh, no, you're not. Look out.
Cisco Kid
You, sir.
Poncho
Just as I thought.
Cisco Kid
Josh.
Sheriff Haney
Roger.
Poncho
Take cover behind the wood pile.
Cisco Kid
Draw your guns.
Poncho
It looks like a gun battle.
Sheriff Haney
It's time to do that, Sheriff.
Cisco Kid
Against his go.
Sheriff Haney
There they are, boys. They're attacking Sheriff's Dunbar. They got their guns dropped right into them.
Poncho
Sheriff.
Sheriff Haney
Get that spot the other way here. Marking out. Just go. Got a brand new rope I'm gonna try out on you right into my. Hold on a minute, Sheriff. I've got a rope to.
Poncho
Madam.
Sheriff Haney
Will you get out of the way, sir? No. Get this rope off my ass, gravel. Boys, if you will keep quiet long
Poncho
enough, I will explain what this is all about.
Sheriff Haney
Keep quiet. Nothing. Grab Zisco boy and get the fat one too. We'll lug him off to jail Toronto.
Narrator
And thus far, in his encounter with his old enemy Sheriff Haney, Cisco has come out second best. In just a moment, we'll return to the Cisco Kid.

Narrator
Now back to the Cisco kids in our exciting story, Gold in the Conestoga. When Cisco and Poncho, riding in the Red Basin countries, stopped for water at the home of Josh Dunbar. Josh asked them if they would ride to the east to look for his brother Will, who was coming overland by Conestoga wagon. Our friends found the wagon, but not until it had been taken over by escaping bank robbers Neil Aiken and Muddy Hackett. Cisco knew at once that something was wrong, but before he had time to investigate, Sheriff Haney arrived with a posse and forced Sisko and Poncho to put their horses to a gallop to avoid being arrested. Easily outwitting the posse, Cisco and Pancho rode back to the ranch, only to have the sheriff and posse show up again just as they were having a showdown with the bank robbers. And this time, the posse captured Cisco and Poncho.
Cisco Kid
Now, you might as well save your best, Cisco.
Josh Dunbar
I don't believe a word you say.
Sheriff Haney
And I don't intend to argue with you, Sheriff.
Poncho
I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm trying to explain some sense into
Cisco Kid
that thick head of yours. You got a head like a billiard ball.
Sheriff Haney
All right, now, that's enough of that.
Poncho
I tell you, you missed the chance of a lifetime when you did not
Cisco Kid
search that house and that wagon.
Sheriff Haney
Get out.
Cisco Kid
That wagon belongs to Josh's brother.
Poncho
I am not saying it does not.
Sheriff Haney
Yes, you did. You just said so.
Cisco Kid
You're the kind of a picture these folks.
Poncho
I said nothing of the kind.
Cisco Kid
Sheriff, I am willing to concede the
Poncho
wagon belongs to Senor Josh's brother. But someone has taken it over and I believe it is the Banos. You see.
Cisco Kid
Oh, I'm sick of talking.
Sheriff Haney
Let's go on a little faster, boys. I manage to get these two homies in jail and get home.
Cisco Kid
Look like they got us at the time. Cisco they got our gun, but they
Poncho
did not pay our hands. Pancho, I believe we can break away.
Cisco Kid
You ride in a circle of umbre, Cisco, hom all got guns, drone, see?
Poncho
But they are not watching us too closely. Each man thinks the other one is watching us.
Cisco Kid
Ready? When disco say the word, I will
Poncho
try to grab one of those guns
Cisco Kid
as we go through the circle.
Poncho
Are you ready, Pancho? Then follow me.
Sheriff Haney
Also that one from you.
Josh Dunbar
I don't know how long you humber. You think you're going to get away with this?
Cisco Kid
Getting away with it now, ain't we?
Neil Aiken
Now look, Josh, all you got is do is keep your mouth shut and you won't get hurt. We're just going to stay here long enough to get ourselves a little rest and some provisions.
Cisco Kid
That's right, Josh.
Josh Dunbar
What you two scoundrels do with my brother?
Cisco Kid
Well, we just turned him loose.
Neil Aiken
Y told him to walk in. He might be getting here any minute.
Josh Dunbar
Josh, you're a couple of liars.
Neil Aiken
That's enough of that.
Cisco Kid
Hit him, Neil.
Neil Aiken
That's just what I'm going to do.
Josh Dunbar
You coward. I'll show you.
Cisco Kid
Well, he's fighting back. Here.
Narrator
Now.
Cisco Kid
Let's see your fight after that. Gun. Weapon. Think I better finish him off now.
Neil Aiken
That's enough. He won't be so pert with what he says when he comes to. Well, Muddy, that posse's out of the way now. We can saddle up a couple of them horses out in the corral right out of this blasted plates.
Cisco Kid
Yeah, we can, but I ain't in any hurry.
Neil Aiken
You ain't in any hurry?
Cisco Kid
No. It's a nice place Josh Dunbar's got here, Neil. Plenty of good grub and nice soft bunks to sleep in. Them monks will get me nailed. I ain't slept in a bed like that for so long, I forgot what it's like.
Neil Aiken
Well, yeah, it seemed good.
Cisco Kid
What do you think we stay over here tonight and get ourselves a good feed? Then we can hit them bunks early. It's a little Might like rain. I guess this thing will be under this roof tonight.
Neil Aiken
All right.
Poncho
Let's stay.
Neil Aiken
I wish I was sure that posse wouldn't be back here, though. Yeah, they won't be back. How do you know that? Cisco Kid might talk the sheriff into it. Least Cisco knows we're here, and that ain't good.
Cisco Kid
Hey, why don't we saddle up and ride in along the trail they took
Neil Aiken
towards the town to see what they're doing, huh? Yeah, all right, Muddy.
Poncho
And if we find out they intend
Neil Aiken
to ride back this way. We'll do a little dry go.
Cisco Kid
Sheri and the party come after us. Pisco?
Poncho
I do not know. M probably. Although we have ridden away from them in the last few minutes.
Cisco Kid
They may give up the case. No, see, they may.
Poncho
Although with all his harem scarum notions. There is something of the bulldog about that Sheriff Haney.
Cisco Kid
We not worry about that right now, Chico.
Poncho
No, we will not, Pancho. But we had better do some worrying
Cisco Kid
about Senor Josh Dunbar troubles with those bandidos.
Poncho
We'll have plenty of trouble with them
Cisco Kid
if he is still alive.
Poncho
I'm not sure he is.
Cisco Kid
We're not right fast together.
Poncho
We must give our horses a little ref from the pace we rode them at first.
Cisco Kid
Little rep. What about seeing you will Donbar, Cisco?
Poncho
I know nothing at all about him beyond what Senor Josh told us.
Cisco Kid
Poncho, you think the bandit has given through? Well, it is possible. We'll try to find out all that
Poncho
soon as we get back to Senor Ja's place. Where's the man of Diablo? S Down by.
Sheriff Haney
Drop your horn.
Poncho
Get behind these rocks.
Cisco Kid
You go stand it up.
Poncho
There's a glint of a rifle barrel from that rise just ahead of us.
Cisco Kid
He rocks not very big. Cisco, not begin all about you behind the rock. Squeeze yourself together fo but c one way. Then Bond.
Sheriff Haney
Stick on the other side. No.
Poncho
Let us take a shot or two at them. Amigo. Can I stay here, Chico?
Cisco Kid
You are right.
Poncho
These rocks are too small to give us much protection.
Cisco Kid
And look back there.
Poncho
Sheriff Haney and the party are coming. Madre me, if we ever get out of this. We'll give those zombies a couple more shots. Poncho.
Cisco Kid
Now right to the north. Well, I reckon that's the last we'll see of that Disco kid in Hill.
Neil Aiken
I don't know.
Sheriff Haney
Sure it is.
Cisco Kid
We scared him off back at the ride.
Neil Aiken
I like to be sure of that. But I ain't sure, buddy. When we get back to the ranch, we better pack up and get out.
Cisco Kid
What, tonight?
Neil Aiken
Yeah, tonight.
Sheriff Haney
But I thought.
Neil Aiken
Never mind what you thought. I'm leaving. If you want to say you can, but Cisco's on the loose. I don't like it.
Cisco Kid
Look, there's old Josh. He'd come too.
Neil Aiken
Yeah, and he's poking around the back of that Conestoga now.
Cisco Kid
Come on.
Sheriff Haney
Come on. Coyotes, my brother. In the back of this flying a Spanish.
Neil Aiken
Now we're going to leave you more just wounded.
Cisco Kid
Let me get a crack of them, Neil.
Josh Dunbar
All right, get back, you buzzards.
Cisco Kid
Get Back.
Sheriff Haney
Hey, Neil, look.
Cisco Kid
500 to just go get undercover.
Sheriff Haney
Find out.
Poncho
Find out.
Sheriff Haney
Easy go. Easy go. Now they will tell. Look out.
Poncho
I'll help you, Poncho. It's ours.
Sheriff Haney
Turn out only. And you may be sure we'll make the most of it. How are you doing, Fat Joe? Fine to do all right, Jisco. But his bandido not doing so well. He flat on his back.
Josh Dunbar
They were gonna kill me, Cisco. And they most killed my brother.
Cisco Kid
Where is your brother, Senor Josh?
Josh Dunbar
He's in the Conestoga. First I thought he was dead, but he's still alive.
Poncho
Fancho, see what you can do for him. I will take care of this coyote.
Josh Dunbar
I'll tie him for you, Cisco.
Poncho
Very well, Senor Josh.
Cisco Kid
I see it's calling that sheriff again.
Josh Dunbar
Oh, I see.
Sheriff Haney
At this time, let him come. Just go out. I'm sick and parody chasing.
Poncho
And we are sick of being chasing your sheriff. Is there a doctor in your body?
Sheriff Haney
A doctor?
Cisco Kid
That is what I said.
Poncho
A badly wounded man in that wagon. And just incidentally, here are two prisoners for you.
Sheriff Haney
Well, I. I got a knowledge of medicine, Sheriff. Yeah, you, Carson. Go take a look at that wounded man, will you? You sure will.
Cisco Kid
You will go to this go by to contest.
Josh Dunbar
Thank heaven for that.
Sheriff Haney
Thing I want to know is where
Cisco Kid
these two prisoners came from all of a sudden.
Poncho
They did not come from anywhere all of a sudden, Senor Jarre.
Cisco Kid
If you had kept your eyes open, you would have caught them when they were driving the wagon.
Sheriff Haney
Yeah, but I.
Poncho
But no. You had to jump to the conclusion that Foncho and I were the guilty ones.
Cisco Kid
I'm a man of action, Cisco. Say so you arrest the first people
Poncho
you come to without stopping to find out the fact.
Josh Dunbar
If you ask me, Sheriff, you'd ought to be mighty grateful to Cisco here for doing your work for you.
Cisco Kid
Dad, don't get the bank's gold back.
Josh Dunbar
You'll find the bank's gold in that wagon too.
Sheriff Haney
What?
Cisco Kid
Go take a look. Well, what do you know? I. Well, by thunder.
Poncho
Do not look so confused, Sheriff. Everything is all right for you now, aren't you? And I hold no grudges.
Cisco Kid
And neither do I, Jipco.
Sheriff Haney
I always knew you was quite a fellow. Yes, sir, I always know.
Cisco Kid
It's good to say you will get well. No, hey, I'm glad he got well.
Poncho
Now he and his brother, Senor Josh, will be company for each other for the rest of their lives.
Cisco Kid
What see you will do.
Poncho
What does he do?
Cisco Kid

Their banter and mutual respect shine, giving a warmth and humor to the tense adventure.
