Welcome to the Old Time Radio Westerns. I'm your host, Andrew Rines, and I'm excited to bring you another episode absolutely free. This is one of over 80 episodes released monthly for your enjoyment. Now let's get into this episode.
Narrator
Here's adventure.
Cisco Kid
Here's romance.
Narrator
Here's the famous Robin Hood of the Old West.
Pancho
Cisco. He's sharing.
Cisco Kid
He is getting closer this way.
Narrator
Pancho Vamano the Cisco Kid. Now the Cisco Kid and our exciting story, Sheriff Phantom. If ever a man was misnamed Bill, Phantom was for the sheriff of Hard Plan County. Weighed 350 pounds with his boots on. He always looked sleepy and tousled. And for the most part, he ran the work of his office from an armchair. But just the same, Sheriff Phantom got things done. Hence, there were those in Hardpan county who wanted him out of office. As our story opens, a lone horseman is riding up to the ranch house of Joe Norale, rancher and cattle rustler. On the porch, Norale awaits him.
Mose Brace
Here's Joe Norale. I take It.
Joe Norale
That's right. You're Moe's brave. Yep. Come on and sit down.
Mose Brace
All right.
Joe Norale
Have a chair, Mose.
Mose Brace
Don't mind if I do. Well, what's his job? Norel?
Joe Norale
I want that blasted sheriff Phantom beaten at the election. Moses. He interferes too much with my cattle rustling. Elections next Tuesday. Now, I reckon if a case come up Phantom couldn't handle it, it'd turn enough voters against him to beat him.
Mose Brace
Where do I come in?
Joe Norale
I want you to pick a fight with somebody, Mose, and then gun him down. You're by far the fastest gunman in these parts, so you won't be in no danger.
Mose Brace
Who's the man?
Joe Norale
Hoke Hastings. He runs the cafe in Hard Patton. Also, he's the chief supporter of the sheriff. Campaigns for him and all that. Hope loves to play poker.
Mose Brace
Just say the word, Noral. I'll get him into a game this afternoon.
Joe Norale
Good. And Mose, don't just wound Hope. Kill him.

Mose Brace
Here, Dale Hastings.
Sheriff Phantom
Yep.
Narrator
You know, I've been trying to place you, stranger for the last three hands.
Mose Brace
I can't seem to though.
Cisco Kid
Cut. Yep.
Mose Brace
My name don't matter.
Narrator
And you look something like that gunman Mose Brace. I saw him just once. But you can't be him. I hear he's gone north.
Mose Brace
I said my name don't matter, Hastings. Here, let me see that hand of yours.
Pancho
What?
Mose Brace
Lay it down, face up.
Narrator
What are you talking about?
Mose Brace
Stealing them off the bottom of the deck, huh?
Sheriff Phantom
Why, you lying pack rat.
Mose Brace
I ain't taking a name like that from any man. Hastings. Go for your gun.
Sheriff Phantom
Now wait a minute.
Narrator
We can straighten this out. Stranger.
Mose Brace
You yell at double dealing Coyote a quitter.
Narrator
All right, by thunder, I will go for my.
Sheriff Phantom
Sir, come over here.
Cisco Kid
I'm mighty comfortable where I am.
Pancho
Come over here, Sheriff.
Cisco Kid
All right.
Mose Brace
Any of the rest of you embers want to pick up where Hastings left off? I'm waiting on you.
Sheriff Phantom
What's going on here?
Mose Brace
I just got down this coyote, Sheriff. What are you going to do about it?
Sheriff Phantom
Too bad. Yes, sir. Plumb too bad. Hoke was a nice fellow. What happened, boys? Did he try to draw on a stranger here? Hoke had quite a temper at times. Some of you boys get him out of here.
Mose Brace
Ain't you gonna try to arrest me, Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
Not for shooting in self defense, stranger. Nope. I can't arrest you for that.
Mose Brace
Is everybody in this town yeller?
Sheriff Phantom
Now, now, that ain't a nice word.
Mose Brace
Now, go on, arrest me. Just try to arrest me.
Sheriff Phantom
Feels like you're in an awful stew to see our jail. No, I ain't gonna arrest you. But I am gonna get into my buckboard and ride out and talk with a man I know.
Mose Brace
Who?
Sheriff Phantom
Oh, I ain't saying he's a mighty handy man with a gun himself, but I guess you're better than anybody around, ain't you?
Mose Brace
They sure will take on anybody in this neck of the woods.
Sheriff Phantom
Yeah, yeah. Too bad about Hoke. Too bad. Hey, deputy, hitch up the buckboard. I'm going for a drive.
Cisco Kid
Now, Poncho, watch. Here's the way to dive into the water. There, you see, amigos?
Pancho
It's easy.
Cisco Kid
Now, go on, get up on that rock and drive in.
Pancho
The only trouble with that water, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Is it is what?
Pancho
It's too wet.
Cisco Kid
Of course water is wet, Fancho. What do you expect?
Pancho
Dry?
Cisco Kid
Oh, come on now. It's time you learn to swim.
Pancho
Buenos is so bad you learn to swim.
Cisco Kid
Come on.
Pancho
Tomorrow.
Cisco Kid
Ah, there you go again. Always is tomorrow. Wait, wait. Someone is driving to El Capo Migo.
Pancho
Go Fort. Com Sisco Nelson.
Cisco Kid
I will hurry out of this water and put on my clothes just about half time before our crawler gets here.
Pancho
Can't you think that the crawler is Sherry Phantom, Cisco.
Sheriff Phantom
See?
Cisco Kid
That is who it is, Chico. I can tell from the way that buckboard is sagging. Something unusual must have happened to get him away from that armchair of his.
Pancho
This Isco. He surely found him fatter than pine, says Isco.
Cisco Kid
Yeah, very much so. Hand me my shirt, Pancho. Gracias.
Sheriff Phantom
There.
Cisco Kid
I'm dressed enough to be presentable. What is there, senor Sheriff?
Pancho
What is there, senor Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
Howdy, Cisco. Ponto.
Cisco Kid
Yeah. Let me help you out of that buckboard, Sheriff.
Sheriff Phantom
No, I'll sit right here, Cisco. Too much of a job getting back in Once I get out.
Cisco Kid
Well, then we will talk with you here. What can we do for you?
Sheriff Phantom
Oh, nothing, Cisco. I just called out here to see how you was getting along.
Cisco Kid
Very fine, senor Sheriff. And now that you have put us off our guard, what is your real reason for coming here?
Sheriff Phantom
Come to think of it, Mo's Brace is in town.
Pancho
Dad Hombre good man.
Sheriff Phantom
Yeah, you're a friend of mine, Cisco. I sure do hate to hear anybody like that bragger telling how he's a better man than you are.
Pancho
Dad Hombre say this sheriff keep your temper. But that Mose Brace hombre say he better than Cisco in Paris.
Cisco Kid
Do you not recognize the sheriff's technique, amigo? More than anyone I know, he has the knack of getting others to do things for him.
Sheriff Phantom
Also, Moe shot and killed Hulk Hastings, the cafe owner. Yeah, yeah, I know why, Cisco. The election's coming up and some people want to see me beat out. I can put two and two together easy as the next one. Hope just happened to be the goat. Well, will you look at who's riding in here.
Pancho
That Mose Braise hombre.
Cisco Kid
No, no, no, no, no. Let's have no fighting here.
Mose Brace
Just keep on talking, sir. Don't mind me.
Pancho
Show do a better man than Cisco hombre.
Cisco Kid
And so let me do the talking. If you rode out here to see the sheriff, hombre, state your business to him and be on your way.
Mose Brace
I just rode out to listen to what he had to say to you, Cisco.
Sheriff Phantom
I've already said it.
Cisco Kid
Now get back on that horse and leave. Hombre.
Mose Brace
Reckon I'll stick around, Cisco.
Pancho
Aren't you? Go get the bullwhips.
Cisco Kid
I said to leave. And I meant just that, Hombre. There's only one thing to do with anyone like you, and that is to pick him up, carry him to the edge of the water. Maverick. Throw him in the water head first. Down.
Pancho
Going like a big frog.
Sheriff Phantom
Yeah, things are working out nice.
Cisco Kid
Now get out of this camp in a hurry, hombre.
Mose Brace
Now get out of your camp. Cisco, look. From now on, watch out.
Pancho
Get out.
Sheriff Phantom
Well, I had a right nice visit with you, Cisco. But you better not come in town. Cause Mo sure will be laying for you.
Pancho
That sheriff not thinks you afraid of Mose brazombre.
Cisco Kid
Cisco Pancho. That sheriff has a way of shuffling people. As a gambler shuffles cards, he do. But he amuses me. And I like him. And so we will help him all we can. Which in this case means getting Mose Brace into jail. Come on, let us get ready and go to the town.
Joe Norale
Well, I hear you got hope, Mose.
Mose Brace
Yeah, I got him.
Joe Norale
That's mighty good work, Ed. Hey, you're soaking wet.
Mose Brace
That's why I rode back here to the ranch, get a change of clothes.
Joe Norale
I guess I can fix you up all right. Yeah, you and me is about the same size. Come on in. Find them clothes hanging on the hooks. You fall in the river.
Mose Brace
Yeah. Yeah, Cinch busted while I was fording the river.
Joe Norale
That cinch didn't look busted to me as you rode in.
Mose Brace
I tell you, it busted. You understand, Norell?
Joe Norale
All right, all right. What you so mad about?
Mose Brace
As soon as I get changed, I'm writing into the cafe and I'm waiting there for the Cisco Kid. I'm gonna kill him like I killed Hulk Hastings.
Joe Norale
I'd go easy if I was you, Moses. I know you're a good man with a gun, but the Cisco Kid's just plain lightning.
Mose Brace
I'll beat him to the draw one way or another.
Joe Norale
Now, wait a minute. I'm with you on getting Cisco, but let's do it sensible.
Mose Brace
What do you mean, sensible?
Joe Norale
We'll dry gulch him in the draw as he rides the town. I know the way he comes in and I know what time he comes in. Then you and me will go run off some of Hulk Hastings cattle from his ranch and make ourselves some money. That'll be another case against the sheriff for election. Well, how about it?
Sheriff Phantom
I don't know.
Mose Brace
Could use more money, but all right, Noral, I'm with you. After we get Cisco, we'll ride to the cafe for a few minutes and we'll go after them cattle.
Pancho
Cisco, do not take the chance with this mos braised hombre.
Cisco Kid
What do you mean, Pancho?
Pancho
The mos brace hombre. A fast hombre with a gun, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Say, I know very well he's a fast hombrom with the gun, amigo.
Pancho
You bet.
Cisco Kid
I have no intention of fighting with him if I can help it. But I do not intend to have him make a fool of Sheriff Anthem.
Pancho
Sheriff Anton, that gunfight with Mose Braisombre.
Cisco Kid
Sheriff Phantom does not even carry a gun, Jaco. I doubt if he could hit that boulder up ahead in the drawer, 10 paces. He depends upon his wits and upon getting the help of others.
Pancho
As I told you, Cisco's help in this case.
Cisco Kid
See here. What is troubling you?
Pancho
Oh, easy, loco, easy. Something trouble. Loco too. Cisco.
Cisco Kid
See? We are both looking ahead toward that draw madreme a rifle barrel. Down, Pancho. Quick.
Pancho
Down, Pancho.
Cisco Kid
Behind these rocks.
Pancho
Behind the rocks. Cisco. Cisco, you hit?
Cisco Kid
Oh, it's nothing, Poncho.
Pancho
But your right arm hit Cisco. Here, here, here. Poncho fix. Roll up the sleeve. Cisco. Poncho tear part of the shirt.
Cisco Kid
Grass is amigo. But the wound is not bad.
Pancho
It's not bad, but bad enough. Poncho, bind up the wound.
Cisco Kid
Oh, our shooting friends have left Chico.
Pancho
There, Sisco, that keep the wound bare again.
Cisco Kid
Gracias. Come, let us get up to that draw. I want to take a look at the tracks of those horses. That is what I want to find out.
Pancho
Go, go, go now. Go. Go.
Cisco Kid
I noticed the tracks of his horse when he came to our camp. A slight hollow on the edge of the left hind shoe. Now we will see its close. Here are the tracks. Two horses. Two horses. Nothing here. Let's look over here. Yeah, look Pancho. Here is the hollow on the left hind shoe. It is. And I'm getting very sick of that hombre. This time something was done about him. Come on, Pancho, we will get to that cafe.
Pancho
But Cisco, do not fight with him now. Not with the wound in the arm that can draw so far.
Cisco Kid
I said it was time something was done about him, Pancho. And I meant just that.
Pancho
But she's gone.
Narrator
In case of a gunfight, the odds will now rest with Mo's Brace because of Cisco's wounded arm. In just a moment, we'll return to the Cisco Kid.

Narrator
Now back to the Cisco Kid and our exciting story. Sheriff Phantom Bill Phantom, 350 pound Sheriff of Hardpan county, never carried a gun. He relied on others to help him control the outlaws. With election coming up, he enlisted Cisco's help against gunman Mose Brace, who was defying the sheriff. But as Sisko and Pancho were riding to town, Brace fired from ambush, wounding Sisko in his gun arm, Poncho pleaded with Cisco not to continue on to the cafe. But Cisco, boiling mad, was adamant.
Cisco Kid
Meanwhile.
Mose Brace
Why, sure, I winged Cisco. Norell saw him flinch when the bullet hit.
Joe Norale
Suppose you killed him, Mose?
Mose Brace
I don't know, but I sure didn't do him any good. Here's the cafe. Oh, boy.
Cisco Kid
Over there. Whoa, boy.
Joe Norale
Now remember, we ain't gonna stay in here very long, Mose. The sooner we get after them cattle, the better.
Mose Brace
I ain't planning to stay in here long. Just long enough to let them know Cisco ain't such a man as they think he is.
Joe Norale
Well, if it ain't the sheriff sitting.
Mose Brace
Right in here waiting for somebody.
Sheriff Phantom
Sheriff, maybe.
Mose Brace
Hey, you're sure gonna have a long wait. Cause he ain't gonna be here.
Sheriff Phantom
Oh, I don't know. Why wouldn't he be here, Mo?
Mose Brace
I ain't saying.
Joe Norale
Yeah, you're wasting your time in here, Sheriff. Better go on back your armchair and go to sleep. You might as well get ready to turn in your star, because you ain't gonna win this election either.
Sheriff Phantom
Ever hear the story of the hare and the tortoise, boys?
Mose Brace
What do you mean, the hare and the tortoise?
Sheriff Phantom
Well, I'm kinda like the tortoise. I run a slow race, but I most generally get there just the same. And I most generally beat out those as can run faster. So you two hombres better not go to sleep yourselves.
Joe Norale
Come on, Mose, let's get going.
Mose Brace
It suits me all right. Bye, Thunder. It's Cisco.
Cisco Kid
See? That is just who it is, hombre. You chaote. He's trying to shoot Pancho and me down from ambush.
Sheriff Phantom
What's that say?
Pancho
Cross coyotes in the bush, Sheriff, and wound Cisco's arm.
Sheriff Phantom
Well, that's interesting new ambushing. Anybody calls for arrest, Mo.
Joe Norale
Now wait a minute, Sheriff Zisco's got no proof who ambushed him.
Pancho
He got the proof, hombre. Do not worry.
Cisco Kid
Here. I have the proof. It lies in the track left by Mose Brace's horse. But before we go into that, you seem to feel you have an account to settle with me, Brace. If that is so, let us settle it right here and now.
Mose Brace
Sure, we'll settle it, Cisco. With guns.
Joe Norale
No, no, Mose, not now. Don't be a fool, Cisco.
Pancho
Do not fight with a bad arm.
Cisco Kid
I would prefer to settle the account with our fist, Zom. But any way you say suits me.
Mose Brace
I said with cons. That's what I meant.
Cisco Kid
Very well then. Back up, unless you wish to fight at Fort Faces.
Mose Brace
I'll stay right where I am.
Joe Norale
So help me, I ain't going to let you gunfight with a Mose.
Pancho
I'll pick up this chair, swing the chair, fix you for that ombre.
Joe Norale
You fix nobody, fat one. Now, Come on, Mose, let's get out of here. You got a gunfight with Cisco. Do it after we run off them cattle.
Cisco Kid
All right.
Sheriff Phantom
I swear this ain't more excitement than I've seen in a dog's age. Hey, Cisco, you all right?
Cisco Kid
Yeah, I think so. Something hit me.
Sheriff Phantom
Yeah, Joe Norrell walloped you with a chair. Him and Mo just left.
Pancho
Pancho run into a freight train?
Sheriff Phantom
No, you run into Joe's fist. Poncho.
Pancho
Pancho not glad you get hit with the chairs, Cisco. But Poncho glad you're not gunfighting with that Mose brazed hombre.
Sheriff Phantom
It's just as well you didn't, Cisco. He probably a gunned you down.
Cisco Kid
Sheriff, you have the best method of prodding a man's pride I ever saw.
Sheriff Phantom
No, no, I mean it, Cisco.
Pancho
Will you go back to the camp, Cisco? No.
Cisco Kid
No, we will not go back to camp, amigo. Sheriff Phantom, have you any idea where those two hombres went?
Sheriff Phantom
Well, knowing Joe Norrell as I do, I reckon he'd think in terms of cattle rustling.
Pancho
Who's cattle, Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
I suspect that with Hulk Hastings dead and gone, Joe would think in terms of hoax cattle.
Cisco Kid
Where is Senor Hastings? Rancho.
Sheriff Phantom
Oh, you thinking of riding out there, Cisco?
Cisco Kid
I am.
Pancho
More troubles. Always more troubles. Wound or not wound.
Sheriff Phantom
Well, it just so happens I was thinking of riding out that way myself, boys. In my buckboard, of course. So I'll go along with you. Give me a hand and help me up out of this chair.
Mose Brace
I sure wish you'd let me gun down Cisco.
Joe Norale
Well, there's plenty of time for that.
Mose Brace
I had him right where I wanted him.
Joe Norale
After the election.
Mose Brace
What do you mean, after the election?
Joe Norale
Just what I say, Mose. Things are fine just as they are. You got Hulk, Hastings, and you wing. Cisco. You set yourself up in this town now as a pretty bad hombre. Lots of people are going to vote for my man instead of for Bill Phantom because they think if they don't, I'll find it out and send you after.
Mose Brace
I ain't waiting till any election's over.
Joe Norale
Not even if I pay you for it.
Mose Brace
Well, how much?
Joe Norale
We'll talk that over, Mose, when we round up a bunch of these cattle. Ought to make quite a lot of money on this deal. Oak's got A lot of cattle. Now, come on, let's get over there and start cutting them out.
Cisco Kid
How much farther, senior Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
Not much now, Cisco. I thought we'd better come up here on the mesa. Cause if they're down there, you'll have a better point of attack from here.
Pancho
Pancho not think those hombres russell the coddles, Sherry.
Sheriff Phantom
Why not?
Pancho
Because, Pancho think they know she's CO after them and they be careful. No.
Sheriff Phantom
Oh, they think Ciscos are scared of them, Pancho. Well, this is hope spread, Cisco. We're here at the rimrock where we can take a look down.
Cisco Kid
Oh, dear. The reasoning was good, Sheriff. There are the two hombres down there cutting out the calves.
Pancho
Just two hombres? Those two.
Cisco Kid
Say, are you going to stay up here, Senor Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
I reckon I will, Cisco. Of course, there is a trail road down I could take, but I can see better from here.
Cisco Kid
You like to sit back and watch things happen, do you not, Senor Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
No man enjoys it anymore.
Cisco Kid
You are all right, Sheriff. The world could use more just like you. Are you ready, Pancho?
Pancho
Yes, Cisco, Pancho ready.
Cisco Kid
And then let us go. Come on up there.
Pancho
Go. Go. Go now. Go. Go, Cisco. Pancho, show that Norell hombre Cisco Badge is sure that Sherry too.
Cisco Kid
Be careful, Pancho. Do not be reckless. You're both bad hombres, Pancho.
Pancho
A bad hombre too, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
I see it, Pancho. Watch out for bullets. Start shooting now. We will be shooting ourselves to spoil the rain right down the elbow, Hefty. Then I hammer handle you over to come down off that horse.
Pancho
Why? To use your old whip Whip. And you owe, you fat fool. Why'd you use the bull whip again?
Sheriff Phantom
Ow.
Mose Brace
Well, this time I'm going to finish off Cisco. And I'm going to do it with this gun.
Cisco Kid
I'm watching him, Pancho. All right, Keeler. Now you have your chance. Let us see what you are going to do with it. I'm ready and waiting. Draw that gun if you're going to.
Mose Brace
They tell me you're faster with a gun than I am, Cisco. Well, we're gonna find out.
Cisco Kid
If you are going to draw, hombre, Go ahead and draw. Or are you afraid?
Mose Brace
I'll show you whether I am right now.
Cisco Kid
You are not hurt, gunman. I only shot the gun out of your hand. Now I will take that other gun of yours.
Mose Brace
Why, thunder, Cisco. I'll pass your head in with this rock, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
I expected something like that. Since you wish to fight with your fist, that is what we will do you talk big hom? You could only act as big as you can talk. You would be the world's greatest.
Pancho
He hit him one in the stomach.
Cisco Kid
Hey, bunch of to oblige you now.
Pancho
One of the jaws. Bueno, Cisco. Bueno.
Cisco Kid
How did you make out, Pancho?
Pancho
Oh, Pancho make out good, Cisco. Twice with a bullwhip. And then Pancho jump with both feet and Pancho sit on the hombre.
Sheriff Phantom
Now let me up. Let me up. I decided I'd better drive down your ass road.
Cisco Kid
Whoa, whoa.
Sheriff Phantom
I must say that was worth seeing. That was a real nifty little set to. I'd get down out of this buckboard, Cisco, but it's too all fired a hard job to get back in again.
Cisco Kid
Stay right where you are, Sheriff. Pancho and I will do the work for you.
Pancho
See, we do the work and Pancho tie up the hombres and we load them into the book board.
Cisco Kid
Is there anything else we can do for you, Sheriff?
Sheriff Phantom
Why, yeah. Now at your mansion it there is, Cisco. Conor like to have you address the meeting of voters tonight. And tell them I'm just a man to keep on being sheriff. But of course, Cisco. I know you don't like to talk before.
Cisco Kid
Congratulations to your sheriff. You won that election in a walk.
Pancho
In a walk. He not walk. Nowhere she's go.
Cisco Kid
Just an expression, Pancho.
Sheriff Phantom
Much obliged, Cisco. I ain't sprised, though I kind of figured I would with the help I had from you and Pancho.
Cisco Kid
We were glad to help.
Pancho
See, Pancho got skin knuckles and a lame knee and two toots knocked out. But Pancho glad to help.
Sheriff Phantom
I hear that was a fine talk you gave the voters, Cisco.
Pancho
Was a fine talk, Sheriff.
Cisco Kid
Gracias. I rather expected to see you there, but I did not.
Sheriff Phantom
I meant to go, Cisco, but I plumb fell asleep in this here chair. By the time I woke up, the meeting was all over.
Cisco Kid
Oh, see, I understand the chair is comfortable. Well, now, Pancho and I are about to ride on Senor Sheriff.
Sheriff Phantom
Well, not just yet, Cisco. There's a prisoner in this jail that's the best cook in the whole blamed country. I keep him in jail much as I can just so he can cook for me.
Cisco Kid
Oh, see, a novel idea.
Sheriff Phantom
And I asked him to get us up a big meal. Name's Walt Adams.
Pancho
We stay, Sheriff. We stay. No, she's good.
Cisco Kid
Wal I.
Pancho
Sheriff.
Mose Brace
Sheriff, Walt's broke jail again. He's escape.
Sheriff Phantom
Oh, thunder. There goes our meal. Cisco, if you wouldn't mind arresting them for me again.
Cisco Kid
Let us get out of here. Funo quickly.

Pancho
Cisco C Pancho Good thing we leave the town of Hot Pan Cisco.
Cisco Kid
A very good thing, Amig. If we had stayed there much longer, Sheriff Phantom would have had us doing all his work.
Pancho
Sheriff Phantom, A wonderful sahar. He's got a little farm. He got no hens, but he get eggs.
Cisco Kid
Sheriff Phantom gets eggs without hens. Oh come now, Pancho. That is impossible. No one can get eggs unless they have hands.
Pancho
Sheriff Phantom do Cisco well then tell.

Title: Sheriff Phantom | The Cisco Kid
Host: Andrew Rines
Release Date: January 28, 2025
In this thrilling episode of the Old Time Radio Westerns podcast, host Andrew Rines presents "Sheriff Phantom | The Cisco Kid," a classic Western drama meticulously restored to enhance the original audio quality. Set in the rugged Hardpan County, the story revolves around the cunning Sheriff Phantom, the legendary Robin Hood-like figure, the charismatic Cisco Kid, and the antagonistic Mose Brace. As the election approaches, tensions escalate, leading to inevitable confrontations that test loyalty, bravery, and justice in the untamed Wild West.
The episode opens with a vivid narration introducing Sheriff Phantom, a hefty 350-pound lawman known more for his strategic mind than his physical prowess. Despite his seemingly lethargic demeanor, Phantom effectively manages his duties, though not without rivals who wish to see him ousted from office.
Joe Norale, a rancher and cattle rustler, conspires against Sheriff Phantom to secure his own political ambitions. He enlists Mose Brace, a notorious gunfighter, to eliminate Phantom's chief supporter, Hoke Hastings. Norale devises a plan where Mose is to assassinate Hastings during a poker game, thereby discrediting Phantom in the upcoming election.
Joe Norale ([04:10] - [04:22]): "I want that blasted sheriff Phantom beaten at the election. Moses. He interferes too much with my cattle rustling."
Mose Brace successfully ambushes and wounds Cisco Kid during a confrontation in the local café. Despite his injury, Cisco remains resolute in his quest to bring Mose to justice. Pancho, Cisco's loyal companion, urges caution, but Cisco's determination prevails.
Mose Brace ([11:28] - [11:33]): "Now get out of your camp. Cisco, look. From now on, watch out."
Pancho ([08:15] - [08:30]): "It's too wet."
Cisco Kid ([08:32] - [08:35]): "Oh, come on now. It's time you learn to swim."
Sheriff Phantom steps in to mediate the escalating conflict. Utilizing his tactical acumen, he collaborates with Cisco and Pancho to apprehend Mose Brace. Their combined efforts lead to Mose's capture, reinforcing Phantom's influence and integrity despite his unconventional methods.
Sheriff Phantom ([19:03] - [19:19]): "Ever hear the story of the hare and the tortoise, boys?... I most generally get there just the same. And I most generally beat out those as can run faster."
Cisco Kid ([25:22] - [25:27]): "You are not hurt, gunman. I only shot the gun out of your hand. Now I will take that other gun of yours."
With Mose Brace subdued and Joe Norale's schemes exposed, Sheriff Phantom secures a decisive victory in the election. Celebrations ensue as Phantom's leadership is solidified, and Cisco and Pancho prepare to ride off, ensuring peace remains in Hardpan County. The episode concludes with a humorous exchange highlighting Phantom's resourcefulness.
