Welcome to the Old Time Radio Westerns. I'm your host, Andrew Rines, and I'm excited to bring you another episode absolutely free. This is one of over 80 episodes released monthly for your enjoyment. Now, let's get into this episode.
Narrator
Here's adventure, here's romance. Here's the famous Robin Hood of the Old West.
Pancho
Cisco. He's sheriff. He's getting closer this way. Pancho Famano, the Cisco Kid.
Narrator
Now, the Cisco Kid and are exciting story. Stampede on the Chisholm Trail. It was well nigh impossible for a trail boss to drive a big herd of cattle up the Chisholm Trail to Abilene without losing a few head. Eventually, with hundreds of these sprays at large, it was only natural that someone would think of rounding up the sprays, herding them on to Abilene and turning them over to their brand owners for pay. It was only natural, too, that unscrupulous men would think of a way to profit from this work. As our story opens, a number of men are sitting their horses some miles southwest of Avalanche. Two of the men are talking.
Luke
You see that dust? It's a small herd coming in now, Chris.
Cisco Kid
Hurt us strays?
Luke
I don't know yet. Let me take them. Field license?
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Narrator
Look.
Luke
Yeah. Now we'll see. Yeah, this stray's all right. I can make out several different brands. Three men herding.
Cisco Kid
How big a herd?
Luke
Oh, 200 odd head. This will be easy, Chris. We'll gun down them cowhands, take over that herd and collect the money for bringing them in.
Cisco Kid
Now, wait a minute, Luke. How do we know about what? The owners of the cattle made arrangements with them particular boys to round up their strays.
Luke
There ain't any monopoly on rounding up strays. Anybody can do it. The owners ask any questions, we'll tell them we rounded up these cattle ourselves. They won't ask questions. They'll be glad enough to buy back this trade. Look to your guns, boys. Joe, you take the army riding point. Sam, you get that glued on the swing. Me and Chris will ride back and gun down the drag.
Cisco Kid
Man, hit that.
Narrator
Right up to him.
Luke
Friendly bike now, Chris. And that cut loose.
Cisco Kid
Right. Howdy, stranger. Howdy.
Luke
Yeah. Them hombres made you ride back here in the dust all the way from Texas?
Pancho
Yes, bro.
Luke
Well, maybe we can fix that.
Cisco Kid
Let him have it, Chris.
Luke
Let the boys get the other two hombres.
Cisco Kid
Yeah, I've got them both, Luke.
Luke
Good. Chris, you tend to get in the bodies off the trail and up into the brush. Take Sam to help you Rest of us will haze in these here longhorns. Here's a mighty easy way to make money. I call it.
Cisco Kid
Ya there. Abilene, the lively cow. She's cool. Yeah, Pancho. Abilene is the shipping point for cattle that come up the Chisholm Trail. When the cowhands get to Abile. After spending weeks on the trail with Carol. They helped to make the town lively bust loose. No, that is just what they do, amigo. But now we have left Ablane behind us. Sing a slim run, Cisco. Yeah. This is senor's first trip for his trail boss. He is anxious to make good because he's a friend of our sponsor. We are anxious for him to make good. Why say your ran not up here now? According to my calculations, he should have been here a week ago. Calculations? It may be that he needs help.
Sheriff
Wait.
Cisco Kid
Hold up. There's a herd ahead of us. Coming this way. No, that cannot be, Senor Slim. That is a small herd. Senior Slim got 2000 heads. No, about that many. Chico, let us go talk with these hands. Pancho, come on. Go.
Pancho
Noble, double the hand.
Cisco Kid
Go now. Go.
Pancho
Go.
Cisco Kid
They may have word of Senor Schlim for us. Somebody's not been on the trail long, Pancho. Not long. Their gear is thick and span, either worn or dusty. We will talk with these two hombres. A word with your senores.
Luke
What do you want?
Cisco Kid
We ain't got time to stop and talk. We'll keep you only a moment. I'm hoping you can give me some word of my friend seoran.
Luke
Who's he?
Cisco Kid
He's coming up the trail with a big herd of Double Bar Excalibur. Seoran, the trail boy?
Luke
No, we don't know nothing about him.
Cisco Kid
Have you been on the trail long? That's none of your plastic business.
Luke
That's right, it ain't.
Sheriff
Come on, Chris.
Cisco Kid
Hit those hombres. Not nice, hombre, Cisco. Anything but. You're shifty eyed and quarrelsome. But then that is none of our business. So what? What, Cisco? What? Why'd you stop? Why'd you stop looking at those buzzards circling over the trail back there? Of course, there may be no connection. But the hombres look guilty about something. I think we'll find out why those buzzards are circling there. Up there. Come on.
Pancho
Find out why.
Cisco Kid
Here's the place, Pancho. For the abajo. First we'll look at the trailer Migo kids cannot see nothing in the clear but colored hoops. Not so sure. Not so sure neither. Right here is where Two riders stop riding from the same direction we just did, Cisco. Say, look over here, Chico. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Another hombre was riding toward Abilene, following the Carlos dragon. The Carlos. And here is where his body struck the ground. His horse plunged to us. He's go. Come this way, amigo. Here are the marks of a body being dragged on the ground. Now I'm beginning to understand the reason for those buzzards. This body was dragged up into the bush. Follow this trail, Pancho. Follow. As I suspected. See, we can do nothing for him, amigo, except to ride after those hombres and talk to them. They kill him, huh? There is no doubt but what they did. Let us cover the body with brush poncho. We'll ride after them. And perhaps we will take them to the sheriff.
Luke
You know who that big hombre was, Chris?
Narrator
No.
Luke
He was a Cisco Kid.
Cisco Kid
Oh, him. Never happened to meet up with him before. Heard plenty about him, though.
Luke
Yeah, that umbre lines himself right plumb up with the law always. Oh, there's lots of sheriffs don't know that. Lots of them think he's an outlaw.
Cisco Kid
Yeah, but Cisco's rode down the trail, Luke. We ain't gotta worry about him.
Luke
Yeah, I ain't so sure. Look this over mighty careful. Another thing. Don't forget this. Any trail sign is just like an open book to Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Ain't no sense asking for trouble before it gets to it.
Luke
No, but it's the same. I don't. Hey, who are these zombies riding toward us out of Abilene?
Cisco Kid
Maybe a couple of cattle owners and their men out to buy back this cat.
Luke
Yeah. Yeah, that's probably it.
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Luke
Yeah, that's who we are.
Cisco Kid
I'm George Wallace of the Circle R. I see you got some of my strays there, boys.
Luke
Yeah, we got some. Who's this gent?
Narrator
Adam's my name. I own the Quarter D. Yeah, well.
Luke
We got some Quarter D stairs too.
Cisco Kid
All right. If our boys cut out our cattle so we can count them up. And then we'll pay you for it.
Luke
Yeah, go right ahead. Help yourselves.
Narrator
Mighty glad you boys got this idea. Rounding up strays and herding them in. Saves us money.
Pancho
You're busy, boys.
Cisco Kid
Tell her.
Pancho
I see it. You sickle. Our hands get busy too. How about you and your boys lending us a hand?
Cisco Kid
Yeah, sure, sure.
Luke
Just a minute. Look to your guns, Chris. Here comes that Cisco Kid again. We may have trouble with him.
Cisco Kid
I got a better idea. Look, maybe we can get these hands to help us. If we can, then we'll write for the sheriff's office and tell them Cisco.
Sheriff
Killed the herd riders.
Luke
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's good. Yeah, that's just what we'll do.
Cisco Kid
I would like to talk to you two hombres for a moment.
Luke
Yeah, we got nothing to talk to you about. Cisco, I want to know how long.
Cisco Kid
You'Ve been hurting these cattle along the trail. Guess, hombre, I could guess you've been hurting them not more than a mile or two. Also, what about those bodies back there in the brush?
Luke
Why, you get down off that horse, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
You'll be careful, hombre? Just go pick jewels. Ah, what are you going to do?
Pancho
Hey, what's going on over there? And these hombres playing?
Cisco Kid
These are their cattle, Mr. Wall. I'll show you what I'm gonna do.
Pancho
Foodies, you want to come in with.
Cisco Kid
Us here to this.
Pancho
Hey, give us a hand here, Mr. O.
Cisco Kid
You miss your hand.
Pancho
All right, boys, never mind those tranners for now. Watch down. What are you thinking? Let me explain.
Cisco Kid
Let's get out here fast, Chris.
Pancho
Right.
Luke
Come on, get our boys.
Cisco Kid
Yeah. Oh, blast it all. We didn't get our money. We can get her later. Right now we got to get to that sheriff's office in a hurry. Yes. Nothing much going on around this office today.
Sheriff
They might just well stayed home.
Cisco Kid
Hey.
Sheriff
Hey, Deputy.
Cisco Kid
Yes, sir.
Sheriff
Old man Abbott been in again?
Cisco Kid
Not today.
Sheriff
It's a wonder. He's been in here for the past three days. Want to know if I've heard anything about them Double Bar ex cattle of his and Sunday? Should I know anything about him?
Cisco Kid
I don't know, Sheriff.
Sheriff
Well, neither do I. Keeps saying he shouldn't have made some hand named Slim Rand his trail boss. What in time do I care who his trail boss is? Now who's this?
Cisco Kid
Sheriff, you better get busy. Hey, you sure had been some murders out in the trail.
Luke
Murders? Me and Chris here and a couple of the boys was herding some strays up the trail a couple miles southwest of here. We saw that Cisco Kid, the one that rides with him, come out of the brush and get on their horses and ride away fast.
Cisco Kid
When we investigated, we found the bodies.
Sheriff
That Cisco Kid, huh?
Luke
That's right, sheriff.
Sheriff
I get that pussy out right away. You boys better ride back there with me and show me the place.
Luke
Yeah, well, we'll tell you where it is, Sheriff. But me, I ain't got any hankering to mix with that Cisco Kid.
Cisco Kid
Me neither. He gun a man down, quits he'd look at him.
Sheriff
All right, all right, you're scared. You can tell me where it is. I'll be right back. Hey, Deputy. Deputy. Go out and round up a posse.
Luke
Yeah, that'll take care of the disco kid.
Cisco Kid
And what about our money?
Luke
And we'll go collect from that Wallace and Shannon. They'll pay us and then. You know, I got an idea, Chris.
Cisco Kid
What is it?
Luke
You remember Cisco asked about a friend who has come up the trail with a big herd of cattle?
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Luke
Well, if you and me and the boys was to ride to meet that herd and stampeded it, it'll leave a lot of stray.
Cisco Kid
She would. I couldn't round up more say 3/4 of them cattle.
Luke
Yeah, and then we could round up the rest and bring them on in.
Cisco Kid
That's a good ide.
Luke
After we finish with the sheriff, we'll go meet that herd and stampeded at night.
Cisco Kid
Oh, it's not too bad, Poncho. We're both lucky to get away as we did. Cowhand's not listen to explanation. What you say, what you say. No, they would not. No, we had no reason to stay there and fight with them any longer. Right till the sheriff's rovers. Now she's cold. And speaking of the sheriff is the sheriff. Well, they're posse I would say. Oh, they have a hole. What is there? Singer Sheriff.
Pancho
What is there?
Cisco Kid
Singer Sheriff? Well, it's a Cisco Clear me comp and I were on our way to your office, sheriff.
Sheriff
Well, that's fine Cisco. Come on, I'll go back with you.
Cisco Kid
But you have an earl to perform. Have you now?
Sheriff
Oh, not exactly. Not now.
Cisco Kid
That is its most performed.
Sheriff
Turn your horses around boys. We'll we'll escort Cisco back.
Cisco Kid
Well, that is kind of your sheriff to give all your attention to us.
Sheriff
Oh, not at all Cisco. You and your partner ride right in the middle. It may kind of circle round boy.
Cisco Kid
Quite like this, Cisco. Neither do I you. But for now we will go along with the sheriff.
Sheriff
And one thing more, Cisco. If you get no objections, I'll relieve you and this other one of your guns.
Cisco Kid
And if we have objection, then we'll relieve you of them anyway.
Sheriff
I'm taking you to on suspicion of murder.
Narrator
And ringed as they are by the guns of the posse, it looks as if Cisco and Poncho would have to obey the sheriff. In just a moment we'll return to the Cisco Kid. Now back to the Cisco Kid and our exciting story. Stampede on the Chisholm Trail. Worried because their friend Slim Rand in his first Jabba's trail boss has not yet arrived at Abilene with the herd of cattle. Cisco and Pancho start out of Abilene to investigate. Meanwhile, some outlaws killed three cowhands. And took over the small herd of strays they were driving to Abilene. Then the outlaws reported to the sheriff that Cisco had committed the murders. At once the sheriff started out with a posse. And met and surrounded Cisco and Pancho. Who were on their way to the sheriff's office.
Luke
No.
Sheriff
That's what I said, Cisco. I'm taking you two in on suspicion of murder.
Cisco Kid
So that is it. What murder are you talking about, Senor Sheriff?
Sheriff
You know blame well. Three cowhands with a herd of strays.
Cisco Kid
And who told you I killed them?
Sheriff
That ain't important right now.
Cisco Kid
It is very important. This cannot kill nobody. Never should not kill nobody. Never.
Sheriff
You two are bad hombres. Wouldn't surprise me to hear you killed old man Abbott's trail boss and stole the whole horse.
Cisco Kid
Whose trail boss?
Sheriff
Old man Abbott. The double bar X.
Cisco Kid
Did you tell that to the Ombre who accused us?
Sheriff
I don't know whether I did or not. Come on now, Cisco. Hand over them guns of yours.
Cisco Kid
You too. Me too? No, Senor Sheriff. We are not going to hand over our guns. Through the middle of them pot you up there with.
Pancho
Open up on them boys. Let them have it. Keep fast that thing we get out of that one.
Cisco Kid
We took them by surprise. And they go up.
Pancho
Where we ride. Now, Cheese.
Cisco Kid
We're riding for Texas on the Chisholm Trail. Pancho, as fast as we can. Those bandidos rustle this small herd of cattle. They will soon get the idea of rusting a large herd.
Pancho
They may have the idea now.
Cisco Kid
That is what I'm afraid of. Those bandidos are the ones who accused us of murder. If that sheriff told them about Singer Slim's big herd of cattle coming up to trail our friend may be in trouble.
Pancho
Troubles?
Luke
Look ahead, Chris.
Cisco Kid
That's a big herd of cattle down there, Luke.
Luke
Yeah, a couple thousand head at a. I guess getting late in the day. We'll be bedding them down and night hurting any minute now.
Cisco Kid
Big plateau down there. My guess is that's where they'll night herd them.
Luke
Yeah. Plenty of water there. Yeah. Let's go over behind the bluff. We don't want to be seen.
Sheriff
Get out.
Cisco Kid
See? We're going to stampede them, cataloo.
Luke
Yeah, we sure are. Come night, we'll spread them all over this here country. And after they round up what they can and drive them on. We'll round up the rest.
Cisco Kid
We can't drive Double Bar X cattle right into Abilene. Somebody'd be sure to spot him and know we wasn't a regular trail rider.
Luke
And I ain't. You ever seen them buyers ride out from Abilene to meet the herds?
Cisco Kid
Buyers?
Luke
Yeah, they come out and try to buy under the market price before the owner can learn the market price. That is, if the owner's with the herd.
Cisco Kid
Ah, I see what you're getting at.
Luke
Yeah, I'll make out I'm the owner and we'll sell to one of them buyers for cash before we ever get to Abilene. Yeah, you and me's gonna make a lot of money in the cattle business, Chris.
Cisco Kid
Hey, let us find out if it's the Double Bar X hurt, Pancho. And we have a hard ride. Kisco. See, we could not come by the regular trail we had. We might have run into those Pontiros.
Sheriff
Then we give them ahead of time.
Cisco Kid
Hey, but we have no proof against them. And that is what we must have. Here's the camp poncho. And that's where your Slim goes. Not you Singer Slim.
Pancho
But it's not your senior Slim.
Cisco Kid
Well, so help me. If it ain't Cisco and Pancha. And Cisco. No glad to see you, Senor Slim. They've begun to worry about you, Cisco. I ain't had nothing but trouble all the way up the trail of here. Contrarious bunch of longhorns a man ever had to herd. But I ain't lost many of them. Come in and have some chow with me.
Narrator
Movie.
Cisco Kid
Gracias, Slim. Gracias. Finds you commune. Have some. What you call it, Pancho, huh? It is nearly dark. We are here, Senor Slim, to warn you of a possible attempt to rustle some of your cattle. My thunder. Any coyotes that try it'll find they're in a mess of trouble. If I were you, I would warn my night riders at once, Pancho. And I'd be glad to ride tonight for you if you wish. Well, I'd sure appreciate it, Cisco. You think there's going to be trouble? I'm powerful anxious to make good on this job. You know how it is when a man's got a wife and a couple of youngsters. We'll help you all we can, senor Sleep. And p' ain't your help too. You see any rustlers, why don't you get out the old bullwhip like this? No. That'll fix him. Hey, Shorty.
Pancho
Ride out and tell the boy.
Cisco Kid
Couldn't find yourself the bandidos they made the stampede of paddles in your Slim. Pancho.
Pancho
Run with me. Run with me.
Cisco Kid
Get your riders out with the cattle.
Pancho
Poncho and I will go up to the bandidos.
Cisco Kid
This way, Poncho.
Pancho
Yeah, this way. She go run your long run. Time to start the st. Never mind.
Cisco Kid
The caliper now, Poncho. We are after those bandidos.
Pancho
Fight them down after a little.
Cisco Kid
Too late for that ob. Into that ob. I will take this one.
Pancho
He throws Cisco. Good, good. Cisco. Shoot the gun out his hand. Now the go. We'll down off that horse bumping somebody on the horses go. Why not fa.
Cisco Kid
All right, you get up on your feet. We'll make short work of this only.
Pancho
And I mean short work. Breathe on all out from p. Banditas. He's go and tie him. Pancho.
Cisco Kid
Tie this one also. I'm going to help Senor Slim try to turn those cattle.
Pancho
Wait for Poncho. Cisco. Wait for Poncho. There's no time to wait, Poncho. We must turn that hood of cattle p there soon. Chiso, I don't know if we can put him enough.
Cisco Kid
Go. We must. We can turn the leaders and get them milling around. We can stop the stampede.
Pancho
Devil, take the other flank.
Cisco Kid
We are caring on the leaders now.
Pancho
Riding close.
Cisco Kid
Fire some shots to help turn them.
Pancho
Turn.
Narrator
You.
Pancho
Long Horn, turn with you now. Cisco. F. You could not have tied those.
Cisco Kid
Over in this short time. Fancho.
Pancho
Want to be with Cisco and find you tied the bandidos. Quick. Go back and make sure they are tied tight. We cannot have them escape. Not watching this. Him the tent.
Cisco Kid
Attorney.
Pancho
Keep after them. Yes, we got them now, sister. They hadn't had time to get a good start.
Cisco Kid
Well, then I ride back to those panos.
Pancho
Sister Ciso. S Come quick. Bandido Not d the bandido. As soon as I can you not.
Cisco Kid
Here, P. So you bano still want to fight, eh? F. Luke at Cisco again.
Pancho
I'm will rush them together anyway. This time we'll finish this fight. What's it for us? But you not you take one behind you. I see him.
Narrator
Finish you off, Cisco.
Luke
Right now.
Cisco Kid
Not the way you are fighting you.
Pancho
Well, not. In fact, it may be the other way around.
Cisco Kid
Now you. I got enough, Cisco. I ain't fighting no more with you. Very well. This time, Pancho, be sure you tie these two pantidos tightly.
Sheriff
This is good.
Cisco Kid
This time we're going to take them back to that sheriff to answer the charge of murder.
Pancho
Murder?
Cisco Kid
What do you mean murder? You know what I Mean murder of those three hombres back along the trail. And I can prove murder against you, too.
Pancho
I wasn't in that, Cisco.
Cisco Kid
Luke there he. Oh, it was Luke. I'm glad to know that, hombre. But you will answer too. You see, you got these sidewinders, Cisco. Just go get him and find your tight em. We have two of them here, Senor Slim, but there are three more in this gang. Yeah, my boys just landed a couple more of them over on the other side of the hurt. Let us not worry about the last one. We will get him sooner or later. You lost no cattle, Senor Slim. Not more than two or three, I'd say. I guess we can round him up come daylight. Well, that is. Well, sponsour and I will ride to Aberling with you. We will tell Senor Abbott that you have done a fine job of delivering his cattle in good shape. Fine job Dead, you bandidos. And I think there'll be no more trouble with stampedes along the Chisholm Trail. Abbott not mad at Senor Slim, Cisco? No, he is not mad, Pancho. Not when he saw the good condition of his colors. Oh, the colors that she's called? Yes. That is why Senor Slim took so long getting them to Abilene. He wanted them to keep their weight so they would bring more money.
Pancho
Heard the cattle all the way from Texas to.
Cisco Kid
I believe, all the way from Texas.
Pancho
How he do this?
Cisco Kid
He go herd the cattle all the way from Texas. Well, that is not unusual, Pancho. Many people sometimes herd cattle that far that strange to Pancho. These people must got big ears. They've got big ears. Yeah, big ears. Well, what have big ears to do with the cattle that they herd? Well, if they herd cattle all the.
Pancho
Way from Texas, hombre's either got big ears.
Cisco Kid
Yeah.
Pancho
Or the carrots must make an awful lot of noise. Oh, Pancho. Oh, she's gone.
Narrator

The episode employs classic Western tropes—brisk dialogue, cowboy camaraderie, and a blend of suspense and humor. Cisco maintains a calm, clever, and chivalrous demeanor, while Pancho delivers comic relief with malapropisms and light-hearted observations. The outlaws are tough, scheming, and pragmatic, adding tension to the unfolding drama.
This classic Cisco Kid episode showcases the best of the Old West radio adventure: scheming outlaws, a wrongly accused hero, swift justice, and a dash of humor. With digitally restored audio, listeners can fully appreciate the creak of saddle leather, thundering hooves, and the indomitable spirit of Cisco and Pancho as they defend the innocent and outwit evildoers.
