The Lone Ranger and his Indian companion Toto had trailed Juan Quito, notorious outlaw, and two of Quito's men for several days. Upon reaching the outskirts of Stoneville, the masked man waited in a secluded spot while Tottle went into town to make inquiries. Within a short time, Toto returned and.

The Lone Ranger (5:18)

Pulled to a halt.

Tonto (5:21)

Did you find out anything Tottle storekeepers say tall, dark skinned feller with scar on left cheek stop for supplies early this morning. Kimasabe. Him have two others with him.

The Lone Ranger (5:33)

That must have been Kido.

Tonto (5:34)

That right me find out them ride from town on south trail.

The Lone Ranger (5:39)

Pick up their trail there and follow them.

Tonto (5:41)

Why you think them head so far south, Kimasabe?

The Lone Ranger (5:43)

I'm puzzled about that. Two years ago, when Juan Kito was sent to prison, he swore vengeance against the ranchers in El Paso Valley. And both of us, because we formed a posse and helped in his capture.

Tonto (5:55)

Me remember.

The Lone Ranger (5:57)

We'll keep on his trail until we find out just what he's up to here, Silver. All right, let's go. Tunnel, please.

Narrator (6:18)

Meantime, in a secluded shack outside of El Paso, several men sat listening as one of the group spoke.

The Lone Ranger (6:24)

As soon as Kito gets here, he'll tell us what we're gonna do. He's a smart hombre and a mighty good leader, as Jake here can tell you.

Tonto (6:31)

That's right. And here he comes now. It's about time to stop. You hombres are here already, eh, Bo?

The Lone Ranger (6:40)

That's right, Juan. You can take my word. They're all good men too. That's Smitty, that's Joe, and he's Hank. Where's Dia?

Tonto (6:46)

Senor? Now sit down and we shall have a talk. No? Ah, it's good to have a gang once more to work with me. How come? We heard you rode south from El Paso with a couple hombres few days ago, Juan.

The Lone Ranger (7:00)

Yeah, Juan. They're anxious to know all about that.

Tonto (7:03)

So I shall tell them and let him laugh with his book. Perhaps they have hear of the hombre called the Lone Ranger. What about it? A mighty mean hombre to get mixed up with one. That I find out, senor. Now, when I leave the prison, I find out from Buck that the Lone Ranger has planned to watch me. Yeah.

The Lone Ranger (7:24)

You see, a few days ago, I recognized the masked man's Indian friend hanging around back in El Paso. I heard a couple of ranchers saying that Juan Quito was gonna be watched close. And I figured the Lone Ranger was one of those who was gonna do the watching.

Tonto (7:37)

But I don't savvy they all think you rode south. Heard them talking about it at the cafe. See, that's what I want them to think. But if you doubled back and came here, that masked man and Indian are trailing you. They'll find this hideout and they'll know you have a new gang. I sure they will. So you do not think Juan Kito is clever, eh?

The Lone Ranger (7:58)

When Juanquito was seen riding south from El Paso, the Lone Ranger did follow. I made certain of that.

Tonto (8:03)

In that case, how do you expect.

The Lone Ranger (8:04)

To tell him the trick you played on him in the Indian one?

Tonto (8:07)

You see, now I shall tell him. One time in El Paso, we meet a gambler who was once a play actor. He is tall like me. Once when Buck and I are playing cards with him, he used to make fun and talk like Juan Quito.

The Lone Ranger (8:19)

Yeah, he was good at mimicking people.

Tonto (8:21)

That is so. Well, I have tell Buck to get him to meet me when I leave the prison. Niece hombre Slick Jackson agreed for a price to make up his face like me and to ride from El Paso openly with two other hombres we know. Everybody thinks he's really Juan Kido who wrote south.

The Lone Ranger (8:40)

Sure, I saw him leaving, and he looked just like Juan, scar and all.

Tonto (8:44)

So you see, amigos, the masked man and his Indian friend are following the wild goose chase while the real Juan Keto is here to make plans with you.

Narrator (9:02)

It was that night that Juan Quito and his gang went into Action. Jed Holly's ranch was the first one hit. Jed was at the supper table with his wife, Ella, when the trouble started.

Tonto (9:13)

Good morning, Jean. Fair, get out and ring the farm bill. I'll run to the bunk house.

Narrator (9:17)

Jed ran quickly to get what cowpokes were in the bunkhouse while Ella quickly went out and rang the big bell. The clang of the bell could be heard far out on the range. And knowing it meant trouble, the range riders rode hurriedly to the ranch house to help. For more than an hour, practically every man on the spread helped to fight the fire. Finally, the barn was in smoldering ruins. But they had managed to save the other buildings from the flames. Jett and Ella stood with their foreman looking at the damage.

Tonto (9:50)

Well, we lost the barn, but we did keep the fire from spreading. Hey, I told you and one of the other cow poets stay out in the range with the cattle. Sure, but outlaw surprised us. They shot Joe. I got away. Ran off some of our cat. You're good. Still light enough for me to see him. Leader was Juan Keto. All right, come on, Takes. We go tell the sheriff.

Narrator (10:22)

It was the following night when Keto and his gang struck next at the Bar X. The day after the raid on the Bar X, the Lone Ranger and Tottle were in a temporary camp some distance south near the town of Redden. While the Lone Ranger waited at the edge of town, Tonto made sure the men they were trailing were still at the hotel. Then he went to the general store.

Tonto (10:43)

Howdy, Indian. What can it do for you? Me want bacon. Coffee. Oh, yes, coffee. Hey, Tom, didn't you say this morning that the sheriff was keeping an eye on an hombre named Juan Keto who's here in town? Sure did. Heard the sheriff and his deputy talking.

Narrator (10:59)

About it right in here.

Tonto (11:01)

Seems like that hombre Quito is just out of jail. Used to be an outlaw. Well, there's something funny going on then. What do you mean? Word just come over the telegraph that an outlaw named Juan Quito has been leading a gang up in the El Paso Valley. They hit two big spreads up there. Ready set fire to buildings to attract attention. Well, he rushed with plenty of cattle. Say, that is funny. Me come back for supplies.

Narrator (11:23)

Me go now.

The Lone Ranger (11:23)

Oh, wait a minute.

Tonto (11:24)

I'll have them for you in a jiffy. But tarnishing got in here.

Narrator (11:33)

A few minutes later, Tato had reached the place where the Lone Ranger was waiting and told what he had heard. The Lone Ranger thought a moment, then spoke.

The Lone Ranger (11:42)

Hello. I think we'll face the man at the Hotel. And make sure he is Juan Keto. You said last night he had a back room on the ground floor.

Tonto (11:50)

That right?

The Lone Ranger (11:51)

We'll get to him without being seen. All right. Let's go.

Narrator (12:04)

Riding along behind the buildings to the hotel. The Lone Ranger and TTO dismounted in a grove of trees, then made their way unobserved to the back door. Well, what is it?

Tonto (12:22)

Hey, M. Get back inside.

The Lone Ranger (12:25)

Eat alone. T. Close the door.

Narrator (12:29)

Why you do this in your?

Tonto (12:31)

Since I have leave the prison, I have done nothing wrong.

The Lone Ranger (12:34)

Your wine, Keto.

Narrator (12:36)

But of course, your senor should know that. Because if you and the El Paso Valley ranchers, for one, he'd stay in prison for a long time.

Tonto (12:44)

No. Me not savage him wasabi. Me think him keto.

Narrator (12:48)

As they talked, the Lone Ranger looked sharply at the man before him. He particularly noted the hairline, then glanced at his upraised arms. Suddenly he spoke.

The Lone Ranger (12:58)

Hello. This man is not Juan Kido. The darkness of his skin is a stainless look at his hairline and his wrists.

Tonto (13:05)

That's right. Now we see that I'm not one. Kato.

Narrator (13:08)

What of it?

Tonto (13:10)

We fooled you again, mister. My two friends sneaked in behind you.

Narrator (13:14)

Just now and have you covered.

Tonto (13:16)

Both of you reach, and reach fast.

Narrator (13:27)

He'd have told me when I got you far enough south so's he'd have a mighty good alibi. As if he'd need one anyway.

Tonto (16:18)

Then we would have ambushed both of you. Pull it there. Hey. Hey. What is it? Me and my deputy will do what shooting there is to do. The sheriff and deputy? That's right. Drop those guns, you two. He's got us, slick. Yeah. Yeah. We didn't expect this. Get in there.

Narrator (16:31)

Come on.

The Lone Ranger (16:32)

You're just in time, Sheriff. Now pick up my gun.

Tonto (16:35)

Wait a minute, mister. Just stand still till I get this straightened out. We caught these two in our room, sir. We heard what you said about Keto telling them to ambush these two armories.

The Lone Ranger (16:43)

How about I trail these three men here thinking that one was Juan Quito? I just learned he's someone else disguised as Quito.

Tonto (16:51)

I figured something must be wrong with me getting word Quito's raging hob up in the El Paso Valley. But with you wearing that mask, I reckon we'll take all of you. Him for not outlaw. I reckon you'll find out anyway, Sheriff.

Narrator (17:03)

So I might as well tell you. He's that ornery Lone Ranger.

Tonto (17:07)

The Lone Ranger?

The Lone Ranger (17:08)

That's right. I don't want the real Keto to find out about this Tottle and I want to get back to El Paso Valley as soon as possible.

Tonto (17:16)

I'll take these three hombres and lock them up for attempted murder. They won't get a chance to notify Keto. You and your friend pick up your guns and go ahead. Me and the deputy will get these sidewinders to the jail. Thanks, Sheriff.

The Lone Ranger (17:28)

Let's go, Tuttle.

Narrator (17:34)

A few days later, in their shack hideout near El Paso, Juan Quito and his gang were planning further trouble for the ranchers in the valley.

Tonto (17:42)

Right now we shall strike again at the Ollie spread. Senor Holly has prize horses in the north range. At midnight tonight, we shall ride over there and steal them.

The Lone Ranger (17:50)

Now, they may have a lot of cow folks watching. 1. There are only six of us all told.

Tonto (17:56)

That I have to think of, amigo. Jake is not known by sight. Early tonight, Jake will ride to town and say he saw our outlaw gang riding toward the Bar X spread at the end of the valley.

The Lone Ranger (18:06)

You think that'll draw the ranchers and their men away?

Tonto (18:08)

Exactly. Some of them are meeting in town tonight. They will form a posse, send for more men and head for the barracks. Then we go get the horses.

Narrator (18:19)

Late that afternoon, the Lone Ranger and Tottle pitched camp a short distance from El Paso in the hills. They rested their horses until after supper. Then they mounted and rolled to the edge of town. Since darkness had fallen, and in spite of the fact that a bright moon had risen, the masked man decided he could risk riding along in the shadows to a grove behind the cafe where they stopped.

The Lone Ranger (18:42)

I'll wait here, Toto. While you're going to the cafe, you might learn something there.

Tonto (18:47)

Me stay at the back of the cafe. Me watch. Listen.

The Lone Ranger (18:50)

Keep an eye out for anyone who might be spying for Keto.

Tonto (18:53)

Me do that. Me go now. Me not stay long.

Narrator (19:02)

Tuttle entered the cafe and went to the back where he stood in the shadows cast by the flickering oil lamps. At a nearby table, Jed Holly sat talking with a few other ranchers from the valley.

Tonto (19:13)

Hey. Got my main spread over my range, keeping watch. And I hope the rest of you did the same. Hey, everybody. I saw several horsemen riding toward the Bar X spread. And I'm sure one of them was Juan Kilo. I hid them in the Royal till they went by.

The Lone Ranger (19:29)

I got a good look at him, sir.

Tonto (19:30)

Hey, Sunder, this is our chance. All right, each of you get to your spreads and get your in. I'll meet you at the fork in the trail near the Bar X. We'll show that no good coyote can't get away with it this time.

Narrator (19:45)

Toto quickly left the cafe and hurried to the grove behind the cafe where the Lone Ranger was waiting.

Tonto (19:51)

Fellow just come in the cafe. Say him see keto gang heading for Bar X spread.

The Lone Ranger (19:56)

I thought I heard a commotion around in front of the cafe.

Tonto (19:59)

Ranchers go get hulk boats. Ask other men in cafe for help.

The Lone Ranger (20:03)

Get right out to the Bar X tunnel. This will be a good chance to wait. Look. Someone's easing out the back door of the cafe.

Tonto (20:12)

Me see him for a minute in light from door. That same fellow who bring news of gang.

The Lone Ranger (20:17)

He doesn't seem to want to go with the others. He's going between the buildings. Must have his horse waiting there. I'm on Tado. We'll follow that man. Find out what he's up to. Easy. Come on, Silver, get him up.

Narrator (20:36)

A short time later, Jake arrived at the hideout shack and reported that the plan had worked. Meantime, the Lone Ranger and Toto stopped in an arroyo nearby from which they could observe the shack. The Lone Ranger spoke in a low tone.

The Lone Ranger (20:49)

The moon's bright enough to show several horses. Ground hitch behind that shack.

Tonto (20:53)

That right?

The Lone Ranger (20:54)

I'm sure that's key to his hideout. Now, Holly's ranch is the nearest. Right over there. And ask Holly to bring all the men he has. I'm certain he'll recognize your tunnel. I'll stay here and try to prevent them from leaving before you return. Hurry.

Tonto (21:07)

You need not take long. Steady, scout.

The Lone Ranger (21:09)

Steady.

Tonto (21:10)

Get him up, scout.

Narrator (21:17)

Time passed as the Lone Ranger watched and waited. Finally, he saw the door of the shack open. He immediately opened fire. For a few minutes, all was quiet. Then several shots rang out from the direction of the shack. Inside the shack, one Quito spoke to the others.

Tonto (21:39)

Whoever is out there is in the arroyo.

Narrator (21:41)

That's right.

The Lone Ranger (21:41)

Right, Juan must be someone who followed Jake from town. Yeah, must be.

Tonto (21:44)

Buck, you go to the back door and shoot. I shall shoot from the front.

The Lone Ranger (21:47)

Right.

Tonto (21:47)

Jake, you and one of the others climb out the window on the side away from the arroyo and try to circle around behind him.

Narrator (21:52)

All right, Juan.

Tonto (21:53)

We'll sneak up on him before he knows what's what. We shall keep him busy from here. Now get going.

Narrator (22:04)

Jake and one of the others climb through the window and keep the shack between them and the Lone Ranger. They ran straight back to the COVID of the trees. Soon the other two followed, while Buck and Juan continued to fire from the shack. Suddenly, the Lone Ranger realized shots were coming from the side and from behind him. He was momentarily protected by the arroyo. But he knew that the outlaws had cut off his escape and that before long they'd move up on him. He glanced around continually and kept firing. Every time he saw the flash of one of the outlaw's guns. The great horse Silver seemed to realize the danger and pawed the ground impatiently.

The Lone Ranger (22:42)

Easy spot of toad doesn't come soon.

Narrator (22:47)

With the wrenches, Diamond. Again the masked man fired until suddenly his guns were empty.

The Lone Ranger (22:54)

More bullets.

Narrator (22:55)

The Lone Ranger searched his belt but found it empty of bullets. Then he knew. The outlaws knew his predicament as they began to move nearer. It was then that he heard a welcome sound. The furious beat of many hooves approaching fast. As he watched from the arroyo, a large group of horsemen came into view in the moonlight and he saw the outlaws running toward the shack. Within a few minutes, the shack was surrounded and the fight was over. The Lone Ranger mounted Silver and rode from the arroyo to men who crowded near the shack.

Tonto (23:38)

Hey, there's another one. You wait him friend. Hey, that must be the mask, man. The Indian Towers mask. Yeah, he kept him from leaving. Well, here they are, man. He's doing all his game. I get out here. You come by the mask, man. It cannot be.

The Lone Ranger (23:53)

You're blinding work here. The man you used as a decoy is in jail.

Tonto (23:57)

If these Zombres did not come here just now, we would have sh you. We knew you were either wounded or out of bullets. That true, Kimasabe? Yes.

The Lone Ranger (24:04)

You didn't get here any too soon, Toto.

Tonto (24:06)

Thanks to you on the engine, mister, we've cut these coyotes. We'll take them into town, get them in jail where they belong.

The Lone Ranger (24:12)

Good. We're glad we could be of help in capturing these men. Now that everything's under control, we'll leave them in your hands. Goodbye and good luck, Jed. All right, let's go. Tunnel.

Tonto (24:24)

I turned it. We don't even know him.

Narrator (24:27)

I wonder who he is.

Tonto (24:28)

Well, that's something even I don't know. But I do know he's a friend. As ranchie. Next time, these friend of yours will not get away so easy. There'll be no next time as far as you're concerned. You hombres will hang for killing one of my cow pokes. Even though he put your head in Anuski, I bet you don't know who that masked man is. Even a fool would know that, senor. He is the Lone Ranger.
