Jed Baker
What do you think makes the perfect snack?
Deborah Baker
Hmm, it's gotta be when I'm really craving it and it's convenient.
Jed Baker
Could you be more specific?
Doug Limu
When it's cravinient.
Deborah Baker
Okay, like a freshly baked cookie made with real butter, available right down the street at a.m. p.m. Or a savory breakfast sandwich I can grab in just.
Jed Baker
A second at a.m. pM.
Deborah Baker
I'm seeing a pattern here. Well, yeah, we're talking about what I.
Doug Limu
Crave, which is anything from AM pm.
Deborah Baker
What more could you want? Stop by AM PM where the snacks and drinks are perfectly craveable and convenient. That's cravenience and AM PM Too much. Good stuff.
Andrew Rines
Welcome to the Old Time Radio Westerns. I'm your host, Andrew Rines and I'm excited to bring you another episode absolutely free. This is one of over 80 episodes released monthly for your enjoyment. Now let's get into this episode.
The Lone Ranger
A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty IO Silver, the Lone Ranger.
Deborah Baker
Hey, this is Sarah.
Doug Limu
Look, I'm standing out front of a.m. p.m.
Deborah Baker
Right now and well, you're sweet and.
Doug Limu
All, but I found something more fulfilling.
Deborah Baker
Even kind of cheesy. But I like it.
Doug Limu
Sure, you met some of my dietary.
Deborah Baker
Needs, but they've just got it all. So farewell, oatmeal. So long, you strange soggy. Break up with bland breakfast and taste AM PM's bacon, egg and cheese biscuit made with cage free eggs, smoked bacon and melty cheese on a buttery biscuit. AM PM Too much. Good stuff. The discovery of gold started a new wave of immigration into the western United States. Thousands of prospectors became wealthy overnight, but many more found nothing. And the greed for gold led to violence and bloodshed in the mining camps. It was there that the masked rider of the plains met his most exciting adventures and did his greatest work in the cause of justice. Return with us now to the thrilling days of yesteryear. From out of the past come the thundering hoof beats of the great horse Silver. The Lone Ranger rides again.
Jed Baker
Hello, Kilmer.
Deborah Baker
We're heading for the hill country.
Jed Baker
It's Going to release the.
Deborah Baker
Come on I stream that cut down from the mountains. Jed Baker and his wife Deborah crossed with their feet close to the water while Baker methodically scooped gravel from the bottom of the stream into a flat pan and twisted. Carefully, his wife just as methodically rubbed gravel into the clothes she was washing. Jed paid no attention until a buckskin slap the water. Oh, dagnabba jabra.
Jed Baker
Will you quit that now, by spite. Here.
Deborah Baker
Here I am pattering for gold. You keep doing your washing right alongside.
Jed Baker
Me crow, just to be washed, said Peter. When we was dwelling in a house in town, I was Washington. Now we're camped out here in this lonely river without nothing but a lean through to shelter us. But by hickory Watson needs Watson. And I aim to do it.
Deborah Baker
Oh, jumping Maverick. That does it. Look at how you muddied up that water. Will you go downstream a little? I can't even see the gravel.
Jed Baker
Pick up that pan. Yeah, well, I tell you, I pick it up, Jed. And stop being called by Petsy.
Deborah Baker
You don't have to see what you.
Jed Baker
Scrape in that pan to do your work. Besides, ain't no gold up here no how.
Deborah Baker
Gold does nothing. There's nuggets. Nuggets, I'll bet. Nuggets big as my fist. Nuggets bigger than a calabash cord.
Jed Baker
I tell you, you never learn, do you? How long we been tramping and traipsing around looking for gold, not finding none.
Deborah Baker
Deborah, I'm asking you polite. Take off that wash and head yourself downstream. Oh, all right.
Jed Baker
I'm a goin. You're getting crabbier and crabbier every day. I'm just an old bargain on you. Now you pick up that pen and start switching gravel. Don't fret about me.
Deborah Baker
I'll find gold.
Jed Baker
I'll find it gone.
Deborah Baker
Moose. What birdie have to wash clothes? What's his sense to. Oh, what's this here sitting right here in the gravel? I jumped out of the pan. Looks as if. As if horseifact. Deborah. Deborah, come running. Come here.
Jed Baker
Come here. I think tarnation is a manner.
Deborah Baker
We can looky here at this.
Jed Baker
Well, what of it?
Deborah Baker
It's a nugget. It's gold.
Jed Baker
Brilliant things, Jed Baker. That there's a hunk of dirt.
Deborah Baker
I tell you, it's gold.
Jed Baker
Gold.
Deborah Baker
Here, I'll clean it off, throw you in the water. I can tell by the weight of it. Deborah, I tell you.
The Lone Ranger
Here, now.
Jed Baker
Sure looks like gold.
Deborah Baker
Take it. Test it in your hand.
Jed Baker
Name sakes.
Deborah Baker
Mighty heavy, Deborah Baker. It's gold. Gold of Mother Earth. It's a gold nugget and it's big. We won't want for nothing, Jeff.
Jed Baker
You mean. You mean after all these years with Chucky queens? We can have the things we wanted for all New Year?
Deborah Baker
It's our claim, Deborah. All registered in our name. Nobody can take it from us. Nobody.
Jed Baker
We can get us a big house in town. Maybe Amarilla or Tucson.
Deborah Baker
Tucson nothing. We can go clear to St. Louis or New Orleans. We can have a house with wooden floors. Two floors. One for daytimes and one for sleeping.
Jed Baker
I can get me a spinning wheel and a wind store for Mexico and Jed. We ain't dreaming, George.
Deborah Baker
No dream. Deborah. That there gold nuggets.
Jed Baker
Jed.
Deborah Baker
Deborah. A couple of riders. Quick, hand me the carbine. Them bullets get into the lean to.
Jed Baker
Jed. Who are they?
Deborah Baker
I don't know, but they ain't getting here. We got the rock wall close behind our lean to. They can only get to us in the front. Get away from there.
Jed Baker
Yeah. It's a masked man.
Deborah Baker
Yeah, I see them. A masked man. An Injun. Now learn them. Says they're friends. Don't come no closer, mister. Get away from.
Jed Baker
Paul, look out. The engine's poisoning up over it.
Deborah Baker
Sure don't look. It's a trick.
Jed Baker
I don't see nothing.
Deborah Baker
There ain't nothing. It's just a trick to get us to look away. Keep your distance. Keep your distance or I'll shoot.
Jed Baker
Captain. It's the only way.
Deborah Baker
Get him up. Mask man.
Jed Baker
I warned you.
Deborah Baker
You won't pop that. Two hours to make you look out.
Jed Baker
Jenny. Fooling the gun. Saddle.
Deborah Baker
Take the wound. I'll get the man. You come up on Saturday. Up on the saddle, mister. Leave your hands off in me. You're coming whether you want to or not.
Jed Baker
Come on. Child, what incarnation are you doing? Get stuck on your heart just like you were taking this someplace. Let go.
Deborah Baker
We are taking you somewhere. We're taking you out of danger. There's far enough steamer for me. Yes. Out of spine. Oh, shut up. All right, Silver, old boy. Hey, Silver, what's this here all about? I'm sorry I had to shoot that.
The Lone Ranger
Gun out of your hand.
Deborah Baker
But you wouldn't listen to my warning.
Jed Baker
Warning? What kind of warning? You look.
Deborah Baker
A cliff.
Jed Baker
I looked afore, didn't see nothing.
Deborah Baker
It was too close to the base of the cliff. Look now. I don't see nothing.
Jed Baker
No, mate, I ain't nothing.
Deborah Baker
Jed.
Jed Baker
Jed.
Deborah Baker
Look up there where I'll be. It's stones. Big rocks rolling down the slope.
The Lone Ranger
Yes, Hello. And I saw Two men high above you. They started it. They started an avalanche that might have buried you under tons of rocks. That avalanche is building up right now.
Jed Baker
Jed. Baker, look. Hey, look at them rocks rolling and jumping down the cliff.
Deborah Baker
It's aiming right from where he was standing. There's a heap of rock here, Deborah. Never get it off without using blasting powder, Jed.
Jed Baker
The lean to, it's buried deep. Way deep. And the stream's covered up. Complete lean to rifle. Everything we had buried under the knob.
Deborah Baker
Moon nugget's gone, too. You're lucky, Becky. You and your wife are still alive.
Jed Baker
Last manual. The engine sure done us a service.
Deborah Baker
Yeah. How come you rode out here, mister?
The Lone Ranger
We were back in Navarro, Baker.
Deborah Baker
We heard two men talking about you. Huh?
The Lone Ranger
You know anyone in Navarro?
Deborah Baker
Do we, Deborah?
Jed Baker
No, can't say we do.
Deborah Baker
Of course.
Jed Baker
We filed this claim in Navarro jail.
Deborah Baker
This one? Several more. None of them panned out till we hit this one. Two fellas, you say? What'd they look like? It was dark, Baker.
The Lone Ranger
We couldn't tell. And they didn't use names except yours. They said they'd be riding out here this morning to take care of you. We'd have come here earlier, but a.
Deborah Baker
Flight started in the cafe and we lost them.
Jed Baker
Then how come you got here?
The Lone Ranger
We went to the office in the morning and got the location of this claim. It was your last, so we knew you'd be here.
Deborah Baker
You mean the same Mr. You rode all the way from the bar this morning? We did? Yeah. That horse of yours. I reckon you could at that.
Jed Baker
Two men. Why should they start that rock slide?
The Lone Ranger
They want to finish you and your husband.
Jed Baker
Yeah, but why?
Deborah Baker
We ain't got an enemy in the world, mister.
The Lone Ranger
You must have, Baker. You must.
Deborah Baker
Nice tunnel.
Jed Baker
Yeah, Way up atop of the cliff down. Sure travels plenty far in this air, don't it?
The Lone Ranger
Come out this way where we can see him.
Jed Baker
Hello.
Deborah Baker
What's he saying?
The Lone Ranger
He wants us to come up there.
Deborah Baker
You think maybe he's found something? Perhaps.
The Lone Ranger
There's no one better at reading a trail than Tato.
Jed Baker
It's a long climb up there, mister. It'll take us most of day.
The Lone Ranger
We'll circle around to the south. You have your horses?
Deborah Baker
That's all we have got left. It's plumb fortune we stake them horses away from the stream.
The Lone Ranger
The sooner we start, the sooner we join Tado here.
Deborah Baker
Silver. Come here, Mr. Baker.
The Lone Ranger
I'll give you a hand up.
Deborah Baker
All right, Max, man, lead the way. Be sure that stallion of yours takes it easy.
The Lone Ranger
Silver won't go Too fast for you, will you, boy?
Jed Baker
Up.
Deborah Baker
Lift. We'll be back.
The Lone Ranger
All right, Baker. Mrs. Baker. Follow me.
Deborah Baker
Yep. Silver.
Jed Baker
I hope it don't take too long. There's a lot of things can happen to that engine all alone on the mountain.
Deborah Baker
Cactus. Cactus, where are you? Over this way, sneak. But taking your time, if you get a look at whoever it was doing the yelling. Yeah, a redskin. Hey, engine. Standing right smack where you and me started that rock slide this noon. Did he see you? No. Unless you're rock service, you couldn't trail a wagon train. Captious, who do you reckon the engineers? Must be one of the two homies of Warren Baker and his wife. And two we seen riding toward the creeks. Yeah, and just when we was going to finish them. We ain't stopping just because we missed. What snead? I said we ain't stopping. Savvy? Now, look. You and me happen to know that that old claimer Baker's the one on the other side of the barrel. That claim has got gold. Baker just didn't go deep enough to find it. Sure, because the claim is still registered in his name. The way for us to get it is to get rid of Baker. That's why we come out here to finish him before he learns about it. Nobody knows but us. Yeah, yeah, we. But somebody might notice. And if they did, the next time Baker went into Navarro for supplies, it'd get to him. So he ain't getting to Navarro. Say, Cactus. Yeah? You figured Baker run into something on this claim? Well, when we was getting set to start that rock slide, him and his wife seemed like they was acting mighty odd down there. Ah, you loco sneed. It was too far to see good. Besides, there ain't nobody lucky enough to hit gold twice in a row. Even when he don't know about the first time. Yeah. Reckon you're right. Reckon I'm certain. And if we're going to finish Baker, we got to do something about that engine.
Jed Baker
Yeah.
Deborah Baker
Keep it loan, huh? The others just started up this way. It'll take him plenty of time to get here. Yeah, plenty of time. You got something cooking up, Cactus? Needless. Two ass and only one engine. He's a big fellow, Cactus. That don't matter. 2 Again. 1 SNE if we get him took care. Before the others get up here, we gotta jump on him. Savvy? I get you, Cactus. And this here rock don't leave no trail. Not unless we do it deliberately. We'll grab that engine. We'll grab him now. And just you do Like I tell you. And we'll get the rest of em as easy as rolling off a log. Now let's get going. We not wait long, scout friend. He'll not be long now. Plenty quiet up here, huh? What's that sound like rock, maybe. You stay here, scout. To go see sound come from this way. Behind big stone.
The Lone Ranger
Somebody there.
Deborah Baker
He got the gun. No. You feller. Not move. What you do here? No. A gent's got a right to wander around. Injunction. I'm all alone. Nobody with me. What's that? Hit him. Sneeze. Get the red skin. There are two of you.
Jed Baker
You. Oh.
Deborah Baker
Hey. He sure moved fast. I just had time to hit him with the butt of my gun before he pulled that trigger. How cool. Yep. I figured it'd work out this way. He was hid right behind that shoulder rod. The engine came up to me. He was right behind him. Give me a hand. We're getting him out of here. Yeah. We'll load him on his horse. They were heading back to the mountain ways. We'll leave a trail, savvy? We'll build trail markers out of stones. A trail? But Baker and the others can come after us. Sure they will.
Jed Baker
Sure.
Deborah Baker
But they won't be expecting us, huh? And it kind of looked like the trail of just one jet, savvy? It looked like a trail the engine planted special for them to follow. And when they follow. When they follow that trail, they're going to run smack into so many bullets, they won't know what hit them.
Jed Baker
Yeah.
Deborah Baker
Sure this is the place Mr. T. Should be here.
The Lone Ranger
There's the rock pile down below us.
Jed Baker
Gosh, it's sure a long way down.
Deborah Baker
I don't see the redskin.
The Lone Ranger
Neither do I. Possibly he.
Deborah Baker
Yeah. Here.
The Lone Ranger
Tanner left this pile of stones as a guide for us.
Deborah Baker
Points that way.
The Lone Ranger
Further up the mountain.
Deborah Baker
Yeah. Reckon he wants us to go that way, huh?
The Lone Ranger
Mister, the only way to leave a trail on this hard rock. You stay behind us, Mrs. Baker.
Jed Baker
Behind you. What first? Ain't nothing going to happen, is there?
The Lone Ranger
No. No, I don't think so. But it's better to be safe. Even though Tato appears to be alone. Come on, Silver. On the trail on the first act.

Deborah Baker
Now to continue our story. When the Lone Ranger and the Bakers reached the top of the cliff, Tonto was nowhere to be seen. All they found were trail markers built of stone. Where in carnation is that engine leading us?
The Lone Ranger
Mr. We're following the trail markers he left. Baker. There's another one.
Jed Baker
No, they're sundown. Air gets mighty chilly up here.
The Lone Ranger
We turn further south here. Notice how those rocks are placed to form an arrow pointing that way.
Deborah Baker
It's awful quiet up here.
Jed Baker
Getting stronger.
The Lone Ranger
We'll keep on a bit further down. It can't be very far off.
Jed Baker
I wish we could see tracks out of them, he'd say.
The Lone Ranger
And that's the regular way of trail marking in rock country.
Deborah Baker
Mrs. Baker, you think your engine fire seen somebody?
The Lone Ranger
There were two men up here, Baker. We saw them from a distance. They started that rock slide.
Jed Baker
Yeah, I've got a feeling that something ain't right.
The Lone Ranger
It is strange. Santa doesn't ordinarily stand away like this, but we should know very soon.
Deborah Baker
I see him yet sneeding the Back trail's getting in the shadow, Cactus. Hard to be certain. You better be. Well, I'm watching. How about that engine back there with the horses? He's tired now. We ought to put a bullet into him. Don't be an idiot. The shot would echo all over the mountain. They'll take care of him when we ambush them others. Supposing they don't fall for this trap? They will. He got no reason to suspect nothing. Yeah, you sure build up them heaps of stones. It'll be beggar's finish. Needs him and whoever's with him. With Baker gone, we can take over his old claim easy. And I heerd something else from the engine. Yeah, Baker struck gold right down below too, huh? Yeah, it's plaster gold right under that rock pile. Baker was holding the nugget in his hand when we started the slide. Hey, use a little blasting powder. Yeah, we got two gold claims instead of one. Pretty good, huh? Doggone good, Cactus. All we gotta do is.
The Lone Ranger
Hey, what's it.
Deborah Baker
Hey, that sounds like one of our horses. The horse is nothing. Can't be. We got the hoosh wrapped up so they don't leave no scratches on the rocks. I can see the trail a long way, Cactus. There ain't nobody coming. Must be the engines. Hood didn't just take him out.
Jed Baker
Sure.
Deborah Baker
Sure, I did. But still. Come on, we'll take a look.
The Lone Ranger
See?
Deborah Baker
He's gone. Ninja's horse is gone. Where's the redskin? He didn't get away, too. I left him lit. There you are, Injun me. Here, take a look at them ropes, Ned. Tied plenty tight. Cactus, slip your bandana over his mouth for a gag. Sneed Baker and the others must be getting pretty close now. Yeah. Engine, how come that horse of yours got loose?
The Lone Ranger
Him pull rope away?
Deborah Baker
Yeah, we had that rope wrapped around a couple of heavy rocks. Scout him plenty strong. You sure you didn't do it? No, of course you couldn't. You're tired. All you could do is talk to the horse. That's right. Me talk to horse.
The Lone Ranger
Well, there ain't nothing to worry about.
Deborah Baker
Get that gag on its need. They gotta watch the trail. Get your head back. You know it will. Yeah, it's plenty tight. He won't bother us nothing. Let's get back to the lookout. But that horse here is the paint. What about the horse? What about it? Well, supposing that Engine told his horse to head down the trail. You're supposing too much. It's a thousand to one shots need it. Can't happen in a won't. Now we're getting back to that lookout. It's starting to get dark, but we can spot him coming again. The sky. And we've got to be there to pull triggers. Come on. It sure is mighty rough country. Stands right up on edge.
The Lone Ranger
It does, Baker. The trail keeps going up.
Deborah Baker
Look at this here. Straight up and down cliff beside this mountain stream. Yours is a peculiar rock, ain't it?
The Lone Ranger
Why is. It's.
Deborah Baker
What's the matter? Anything special about it?
The Lone Ranger
I don't know. It's hard to tell.
Jed Baker
Mare Spain. Mister?
The Lone Ranger
Yes, Mr. Baker?
Jed Baker
This here air is awful thin. I'd like to rest. Your wife?
The Lone Ranger
Why, of course. I hadn't noticed.
Jed Baker
I'd sure like to drink water.
The Lone Ranger
Let me help you off your horse. Here's fine drinking water.
Jed Baker
Thank you kindly, mister. Sherry's cold and good.
The Lone Ranger
Here, Mrs. Beckett, put this blanket around your shoulders. It'll keep you warm.
Deborah Baker
Deborah, I know you're plumb tuckered out. But that engine must have been on the trailer there. Mobberies, ain't it? So, mister?
The Lone Ranger
I think he is, yes.
Deborah Baker
You ought to be keeping after him.
Jed Baker
You're right, Jed. Mister, why don't you and Jed keep going? I'll be right warm here with this blanket. No, you could pick me up later. If you don't keep going, you might lose that badminton.
The Lone Ranger
Jed, we can't do that. For all we know, Tata may not be after them. There's no way to be sure when the rock leaves no trail.
Deborah Baker
Yes, but we. Suppose we left your wife here.
The Lone Ranger
Suppose we went ahead. Those two men might have circled around. You might find her here alone.
Jed Baker
Oh, shucks, mister. There ain't nothing to harm old woman.
The Lone Ranger
They started a rock slide knowing you were beneath it.
Deborah Baker
Reckon you're right, mister. Reckon we better wait.
The Lone Ranger
Perhaps I could wait.
Deborah Baker
Hey, listen. I don't hear nothing but the bull. Listen.
The Lone Ranger
Can't you hear it now?
Deborah Baker
By Granny. It's a horse. A horse coming this way.
Jed Baker
I don't see him.
Deborah Baker
Nor do I. Not yet.
The Lone Ranger
Be certain.
Deborah Baker
There, look. I seen him for a second. Again the sky.
The Lone Ranger
Jed, stay here with your wife.
Deborah Baker
That horse didn't have no rider.
The Lone Ranger
Stay here. I recognize that horse. It's Scout Tanta's horse.
Andrew Rines
Stay here.
The Lone Ranger
I'll bring him back. Maker, there's been a change in my plan.
Deborah Baker
I see you got the horse.
The Lone Ranger
It's Scout Tantus. Horse with a halter hanging loose. That can mean only one thing.
Deborah Baker
Yeah?
The Lone Ranger
Scout would never leave Tattoo any more than Silver would leave me. He'd only do it under orders.
Deborah Baker
You mean your horses would take orders like that?
The Lone Ranger
Silver and Scout would.
Jed Baker
What do you mean, the plans have changed?
The Lone Ranger
Just that, Mr. Baker. Jed. We're going on, you and I.
Deborah Baker
But you just.
The Lone Ranger
Ned, I know I said we couldn't leave Mr. Baker here, but now we can.
Deborah Baker
Mister, all this sounds local.
The Lone Ranger
Perhaps it does, but I know what I'm doing. Mrs. Baker, you'll stay here. When you hear shots, light a fire. And don't move away from this rock. Stay right here.
Deborah Baker
Easy with that gun, Sneed. It's the second time you scraped it on the rug. If they don't show up soon, we won't see him. Keep your eyes fixing. That notch in the rocks. That's the trail we fixed. Well, we got a clear shot again. The sky. As long as the sky don't get much darker, we can spot him. Clear now. Texas. Yeah. Horses. It's them. It must be. Shut up and use your ears. Must be.
The Lone Ranger
This way, Baker.
Deborah Baker
Right alongside. Mister, did you hear that? It's them. Baker and the other J. Yeah, the Indians purred. Look where he might be. Look. Yeah. Jim's starting to show up in the sky. Can't make out their faces so clear. Can't you? Or not. The light's fading. There's their hats and their outlines. The horses is too low for us to see. We got him.
The Lone Ranger
Clear.
Deborah Baker
Sneed, throw your beat on the jet to the right. Yeah, I got the one to the left.
The Lone Ranger
Now aim careful.
Deborah Baker
They'll cop in their tracks.
The Lone Ranger
Now drill them.
Deborah Baker
We got him. Did you hear him yell? That was a target we couldn't miss. Real dragulks job, Sneezy. There ain't no sound out of there. Never will be. Well, that takes care of them. Now let's get back and finish that engine. This is sure working outside of Daddy. This is it. Cactus. Get Mr. Dark and Dead. Can't see where he's hidden. These are horses. Where's the redskin? Cactus. Cactus. He ain't here. He's gone. Look. We must be here. Look. There's where he was tied. Here's the rope. Cactus. The engine's gone, I tell you.
Jed Baker
Go on. Yeah.
Deborah Baker
Yeah, reckon he is. We gotta corral that redskins. Sneed. They gotta corral him. And Mrs. Baker too. They're the only ones left. If we don't get them, you and me might swing at the end of a rope. Sure. But where is he? Where'd he go? We gotta find him. We Sneed, huh? Look down yonder. Ain't that fire well. Well, I'll be. Yeah. A campfire down the mountain ways. Who is it? I don't know. Sneed. Maybe it's a beggar woman. Maybe it's the engine. The engine knows we're after him. He ain't fool enough to light a fire. He's the only two. Whoever it is, we gotta get there and get there fast. We can't leave no witnesses. Savvy? Get your horse. We're busting it on that ch.
Jed Baker
Max Main said start a fire. I started one. But I sure wish I knew what happened to JJ.
Deborah Baker
It ain't Mrs. Bacon. Don't move, ma'. Am. Just looking for you. Nice big fur you get here. It's me. Sure is you.
Jed Baker
You too. Armin. So it was you who tried to kill us. You started that rock slide.
The Lone Ranger
Yeah.
Deborah Baker
Too bad you was warned in time.
Jed Baker
What was them shots I heard.
Deborah Baker
I figured it was you getting a.it was your husband. Your husband and that hombre with him. We dragged out both of them slick as a whistle. And now, just so there won't be no witnesses.
Jed Baker
You coyote. You couldn't do nothing to a woman.
Deborah Baker
You won't have to. All we'll do is take your hug.
Jed Baker
But I'll starve to death before I can reach any human being.
Deborah Baker
Yeah, reckon you will. Well, go ahead.
Jed Baker
Go on. Take my horse. You shot my husband. Ain't no use living without dead.
Deborah Baker
Get the horse meat here. We can start after that engine. Mule. Look him right here. What? The engine. He's standing next to the horse. Shoot. Shoot him down. He ain't got no guns. No, but we have guns.
Jed Baker
Get him.
Deborah Baker
Figured I'll show him you're a. Don't figure he's alive. He ain't taking me.
The Lone Ranger
Try another.
Deborah Baker
Let's go up the bridge.
Jed Baker
No, no.
Deborah Baker
Don't hit me, masked man.
Jed Baker
Don't hit me.
Deborah Baker
Here's my gun. You sure give Cactus one awful wallop.
The Lone Ranger
Tado me here, kimosabe. Take care of those two.
Deborah Baker
Mommy, do that.
Jed Baker
Oh, Jed. Jed, you're alive. You're alive. I didn't figure I'd ever see you again.
Deborah Baker
Now, Deborah, honey, just take it easy.
The Lone Ranger
Yes, Mr. Baker. We'll guard these two. But you and your husband have had a hard day. There'll be plenty of time for explanations in the. All saddled and ready to go. Teller them tied up good?
Deborah Baker
Yeah, you got us. If I'd have known you was an old ranger, maybe I'd have done different. But it beats me how me and Steve missed you a Baker? We Shot you less than 30 paces away from a steady rest.
The Lone Ranger
What you saw wasn't us, Snead. It was getting dark. All you had to guide you were two outlines against the sky. You see, Baker and I put blankets on branches with our sombreros above. And that's what you shot at.
Deborah Baker
Well, I'll be arrested then. You set the redskin free. You had Mrs. Baker start a fire because you knew we'd head for it.
The Lone Ranger
Yes, Cactus. You set a trap and landed in one yourself. All right, Baker, we can start.
Deborah Baker
Mister.
Jed Baker
Mister.
Deborah Baker
Come here. Yes, I. I can't believe my eyes. Look at this here rock right next to the stream.
Jed Baker
It looks like gold.
Deborah Baker
Is it gold, Mrs. Baker?
The Lone Ranger
It is gold. What you found down below was just placid gold dust washed down by the stream. This is the real vein of good.
Deborah Baker
Ore. You mean you knew it all the time?
The Lone Ranger
I saw it last night. That's why I was so definite that your wife stayed right here beside this rock.
Deborah Baker
Mister, then. And you are rich. You've got enough gold to get anything.
The Lone Ranger
That isn't my gold, Baker.
Deborah Baker
Eh?
Jed Baker
What do you mean?
Deborah Baker
I mean it's yours.
The Lone Ranger
Yours and your husband's.
Jed Baker
Ours?
Deborah Baker
Yes.
The Lone Ranger
Todo and I have no use for gold. You can use it, and you deserve it. And it's the richest gold I've ever seen. And now Toto and I must go. We've got two prisoners to deliver to the law, and you'd better follow our trail. You've got a file on your new claim. All right, Toto. We're heading for town.
Deborah Baker
Get him up, Scout.
The Lone Ranger
Come on, Silver. Come on, old boy.

Sam.
In this classic episode from “The Lone Ranger,” the masked hero of the West rides to the aid of a struggling mining couple, Jed and Deborah Baker, whose discovery of gold makes them targets for greed and violence. As the Bakers’ hopes for a better life are threatened by mystery assailants and treachery in the rugged hills, the Lone Ranger and his loyal companion Tonto intervene to unravel a dangerous plot — protecting the innocent and upholding justice amidst the wilds of the gold rush frontier.

— The Lone Ranger [31:29]
The episode brims with classic Western vigor and heart—plucky determination from hard-luck prospectors, the cool-headed resourcefulness of the Lone Ranger, and the menacing, desperate plotting of outlaws, all delivered in the clipped, dramatic style of 1940s radio. The swift, suspenseful dialogue and evocative sound design—thundering hooves, avalanches, and mountain winds—underscore the high stakes and ultimate triumph of justice.
“The Trail of the Timberline” exemplifies the signature blend of suspense, adventure, and moral clarity that made The Lone Ranger a legend of the airwaves. With his intelligence, compassion, and swift sense of justice, the masked man not only foils villainy but ensures that honest toil is rewarded, leaving Jed and Deborah Baker with a future transformed by both gold and hope.
