We’re Shannon and Nievita, and we’re the Ravin’ Girls! Welcome to our Raven Cycle podcast, where we analyze Maggie Stiefvater’s Raven Cycle as a cycle, taking a look at the connections and foreshadowing running throughout the series. We dissect the themes of the books, discuss the arcs of the wonderfully complex characters, and take “Deep Dives” on the origins, folklore, mythology, history, and fandom that surrounds this iconic young adult series.
Each episode covers 3-5 chapters worth of material, and each book has its own self-contained Season. We often cover Maggie Stiefvater’s new novels or other related works in Special Episodes. New episodes release on the first and third Thursdays of every month. Join us as we follow the adventures of four dysfunctional teenagers and their dead Welsh boyfriend!

We get into some mild dragging of Dick Gansey the Second, Neeve continues to be a terrible human, we reject the canon of Noah’s shoes, Shannon holds the line as Blue Sargent Defense Squad, and Nievita is just the worst at pronouncing names and doing accents. You’d think by now she’d learn! Note: Shannon only almost caused the car to crash because Nievita put her ice cold hands on Shannon’s face while pretending she was Noah, then laughed so hard when Shannon yelled “Jesus Christ, Nievita!” that she couldn’t see to drive. It was justified on Shannon’s part.

Nievita loves little old (Cloud) ladies brazenly reading trashy romance novels (to be fair, Shannon does, too). Shannon thinks Opal needs to be introduced to Mr. Rogers (to be fair, Nievita was unfamiliar with the episode in question). They both agree that Opal is awesome and adorable and also creepy. There’s also plenty of discussion about how the story ties into the upcoming Dreamer Trilogy and what it means for our expectations.
