I woke up this morning with terrible self-talk. My inner voice that lies to me was telling me I don’t deserve to be happy. It was saying that I deserve my chronic pain, my disability, and my alcoholism. I rarely wake with such negativity.

I logged in to my morning sobriety meeting, and after 30 minutes, I heard someone say, “I’m worth it.” I also heard, “Am I listening?”

I certainly was listening, but to the wrong thingamajig. I practiced quieting my negative self-talk, challenging those unworthy beliefs, and reflecting on my resilience.

These are the most important days to recover out loud. This is the ugly, messy stuff that is important to share. This is the stuff that we don’t talk about.
