Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible, and with any luck totally enjoyable.

That’s the case completely today as we’re connecting with a filmmaker in every sense of the word St.John’s son Justin Oakey. This will make our second chat as just about this same time last year I had the pleasure of moderating a Directors Guild of Canada panel at FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival here in Halifax. Justin was one of the young directors on the panel – selected as being one to watch and they sure got that right! Justin’s IMDb page includes a ton of different behind-the-scenes hats including – executive producer, writer, director, and editor – all of which he wore for this western noir of a thriller.

Well, now the film that made its world premiere there last year – A FIRE IN THE COLD SEASON has just this past week been released for your digital viewing pleasure and theatrically in his hometown at the Mount Pearl Cineplex. So we’ll talk about all of that and so much more – including the breathtaking backdrop of Newfoundland he incorporated so dramatically into the picture, the music crafted so perfectly for the film, and the stellar cast that delivered on every note. Plus we’ll start with 1st Things First, play a fun round of INsights IN 10 and spin some of his favourite soundtrack songs too. Oh and be sure to stick around for the end of the show – when we’ll have a bunch of great news to share about the film and the filmmaker.
