All right, y', all. So we are continuing the conversation today about burnout and about overcoming burnout as a Christian entrepreneur, specifically, because while there is, you know, there's a lot of conversation, maybe not a lot, but some conversation in the online business owner entrepreneurial spaces about burnout, a lot of it is not from a Christian perspective, right? And so, as with everything in my life, it's like, what, what is, What's a biblical view on this? What's a biblical approach to this? And so here today, I'm breaking down the second half of how to overcome burnout as a Christian entrepreneur. Because let's be real, y', all, if Jesus is not the center of it all, we're going nowhere real fast. So listen in. Online marketing to get organic traffic. And now I'm here to share all the things I'm learning in the trenches of SEO, copywriting and content marketing. How does 300%, 500% or even 12,000% more traffic in a year sound? What could your business do with that kind of traffic increase? How many more people could you help? So listen in and prepare to take notes. I'm about to drop some simple, actionable SEO marketing and copywriting tips, all with a heavy dose of Jesus loving encouragement. Let's get you more traffic and more leads so you can help more people with your God given gifts. Okay, so I have a lot of thoughts on burnout. I have a lot of thoughts on rest. Make sure you listen to last week's podcast to catch some of that. But I do want to add this to this conversation. I think that a lot of times as Christians, we have this thought that like, we have to just keep pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing until we break right? Or without actually thinking that we're going to break right? And the fact of the matter is, is we as human beings are desperately in need of Jesus, right? We cannot do it without, without Jesus. And the Old Testament proves that, right? Like time and time again, they tried and tried and tried and failed and failed and failed without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. They could, they couldn't do it without Jesus. We can't do it without Jesus, right? However, however, that does not mean that you have to go 247 full bore. Okay? Jesus rested, we can rest. Okay? But let's talk about, or should I say, so let's talk about overcoming burnout from a Christian perspective. Like what, what all does that look like? How. How are we going to not get burnout? Or how are we going to get over getting burnout? Right? So last week I gave you six tips. This week I think I have six more. We'll see what comes. But the first tip I want to talk about today is asking for help. Now, I know you're probably like, well, great faith. If I could pay for more help, I would be. Well, I get that. Right? Like, budgets are a real thing. Sometimes you only have so much money in your business budget to ask for help. And I get that. I'm not trying to tell you to go in debt, spend money you don't have. That's not what this is about. But sometimes we as entrepreneurs or you know, the founder or you know, the person that's in charge of this part of the company, we have such a tight grip on all of the things. And very often all of the things are not all things that we are gifted to do. And chances are good there is somebody in your world or somebody not in your world that can do that job just as well as you can or better. So one of my favorite places to read in the Old Testament is, okay, so not, not my favorite favorite, but cool to read each year, I should say, is when they're. When the Lord is giving instructions for building the temple and he specifically says, call this dude, he's really good at all of these types of things. And I just have to sit and think, like, you know what, There is somebody gifted to do this thing that I'm probably not real gifted to do. And when we don't ask for help, we not only put more of a burden on ourselves but we rob somebody else of the ability to use the their gifts. And that is really sobering when you think about it. Because you as a Christian entrepreneur, you as a businessman or woman, you got into business to use your gifts to help people. And at some level that causes joy, that brings joy to you to use your gift, and it brings joy to other people to use them, their gifts as well. Now, I am not saying that you should, you should take advantage of people or anything like that, but maybe there's some tradesies that can happen. Maybe you can spend less on some subscriptions and hire out some work. Like, there's probably somebody that can help you, right? Maybe if you're like me and your husband is good at detail oriented things, you're like, hey, can you proofread this for me? Right? Like, not a huge deal, but it takes such a weight off of me. Okay, so tip number one today is ask for help. All right? Tip number two is I want you to ask yourself this. If I was seeing massive success in this area, whatever the, you know, thing you're feeling burnout at, if I was seeing massive success in this area, where would I still want to quit? And I've asked myself that and I'm like, always the answer is no. So the problem then is not what you're working on, it's the level of success that you're seeing that's causing you to feel discouraged or burn out, right? And y' all discouragement is not from the Lord, right? Like Joshua chapter one is filled with be strong and of good courage. Be courageous, right? Discourage is the opposite of courage, right? And so we have to encourage ourselves in the Lord like David did in Ziklag, right? So if you can answer that question, right? If you can answer the question about if you're seeing massive success, would you still be discouraged? If the answer to that is no, then you need to encourage yourself in the Lord. Okay? For me, that always starts with the who am I Scriptures. Always. Okay? So if you don't have that download, the who am I Scriptures, grab it. It's in the show notes. I literally just stole it from my pastor. She knows I stole it. I stole it from my pastor and put it in like a download form, okay? But it is just scriptures straight from the Bible put into an affirmation form, so to speak, where it's like, I am more than a conqueror in Christ. So you're saying scriptures and declaring scriptures over yourself, and that is one of the fastest ways to encourage yourself and build up your faith, all right? The next tip I have for you is this. Ask yourself, take inventory of what can you cut out? What can you cut out entirely? Or simplify? And a lot of this, you know, it comes down to having systems and metrics and being able to look at, okay, I'm getting this many leads from this place, none from here. Cut that. If you don't have, you know, those metrics set up or you don't know how to read those metrics, you know, try to get that set up. Try to get to where you can understand those metrics. But if you're like, listen, I get exactly 0 responses from Instagram and I put so much time and effort into that, then just walk away from that, right? There's other forms of marketing, but so often, you know, as business owners, we get this, like, keeping up with the Joneses feeling. We're like, oh, well, you gotta post on TikTok and Instagram and Facebook and Pinterest and YouTube and blogging and podcasts. Like, we have to be in all the places all at once, when in reality, like, you really don't. And unless you have a huge team, it is impossible to do the strategy, use the correct strategy in each of those individual places and actually see growth. So you very well could cut a lot of your workload in your content marketing if you just honestly evaluate, like, where am I getting results? Where am I not getting results? Okay, boom. No results. Done. I walked away from Instagram two and a half years ago. Have not posted in two and a half years. At the time of this recording, Am I necessarily done with it forever? No, but I looked at the amount of time that I was spending on that, and I looked at the ROI and I was like, this is no dumb. This is dumb. And I walked away from it. Okay, so now I don't. I don't fret about Instagram. I'm not worried about it because it's not even part of my strategy. And just removing things that aren't working or. Or simplifying things that are overly complicated can take so much stress off of your plate. Okay, the next question that I want you to ask is, what is your real zone of genius or your real gift? Like, what are you really gifted to do? Not what can you do, what are you really gifted to do? Now, a lot of times I feel like, as, you know, entrepreneurs, as scrappy, really scrappy people, you're like, well, I can do all the things. And you probably can. You probably can do all of the things or figure out all of the things, right? You're smart, you're scrappy, you started a business. Okay, but what are you actually gifted to do? Not what can you do? So, funny story. When I was in college, I have a business major, emphasis in marketing and a minor in English. And so when I was in college, I had to take two accounting classes. And first accounting class, like lots of people in there. Second accounting class, fewer people, but whatever. And I absolutely hated it. Loathed, utterly loathed accounting. But I was pretty good at it. Okay? Math came pretty easy to me. I can line things up like accounting. Math is not calculus level hard. So, you know, it was pretty easy compared to calculus. And so I got, I got A's. I got like pretty high grades on all the tests, but my teachers, bless them, they're like, oh, she's good at accounting, she should change her major. And so a couple of the teachers in the accounting department were like, you should consider changing your major. And I was like, absolutely not. I utterly loathe this. I hate it. With a burning, fiery passion. And I proceeded to write I hate accounting and big block letters down the side of my textbook so that my teacher could see it every day, during. Which is funny, right? It's funny because it's like, oh, yeah, I could have changed my major, went into accounting, become a cpa, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But how stinking miserable would I have been? Whereas I have a client now. She was a website copywriting client. Now I'm writing content for her. She is an accountant and her little eyes sparkle when she talks about accounting. And it's just the coolest thing. Cause I'm like, here's somebody that is truly gifted at this. She's so good at it. She really has the heart of a teacher. She loves this. And she is totally walking in her gift. And I love marketing. Love it. And I'm getting to use my gift. It makes my little heart go pitter patter. But if the roles were switched, right, I could probably figure out accounting, but I would be miserable. And she could definitely figure out marketing because she's smarty smart. But would she be having fun with it? Probably not. And so just thinking through, like the tasks in your business and the things that burn you out and the, the departments of your business, it's like, I want you to ask, like, am I operating in my zone of genius? Am I operating in my true gifting? Okay? And no, you're probably not going to be able to restructure your whole business and hire out everything that you don't like. You know, from this second forward, maybe you can. If you can, rock on. But if. Can't you sometimes just at least knowing, like, oh, that thing is so draining because it's not in my zone of genius. Even knowing that helps, right? Because then it's like, you don't feel like such a failure for not liking whatever that task is when it makes other people so tickled pink. Okay, and my next tip. Second to last tip. Okay, second to last is I want you to ask yourself, when was the last time you had fun? Like, genuine fun? Because if you're like me, some of the. Sometimes the things that we enjoy doing turn into work. They turn into a business. Like, I love running a business. I love marketing. I love helping other business owners. I love, love, love that. But it is still work. It's okay that it's work. Work is holy. But it's still work. Okay? And so last fall, my husband and I were having a conversation. I was like, I just don't think I'm doing very much for fun. And he's like, well, what? He's like, you need to figure out what you enjoy doing. And I was like, oh, I know what I enjoy doing. I enjoy running really nice barrel horses. I just haven't done it. I haven't been doing that. Right. And so just even realizing, oh, yeah, I haven't done the things that I enjoy doing lately. So, yeah, that's why this feels not very awesome. Because I haven't been having fun, right? So even just being like, oh, what can I do that's fun? What have I done lately that's fun? And just making time to do that fun thing can really, really, really help with burnout. Okay? And now the last tip. And this is by far the most important, but I saved it for last. Okay? And I want you to. This is the tip. I want you to very prayerfully sit before the Lord and think and ask and meditate and have conversation with the Lord about how does this business fit into my larger calling? Because so often we like to pigeonhole our calling, our life's work, into, like, this one tiny little thing. But really your calling is so much bigger than that, right? We are all, as Christians, we are put on this earth to glorify God and make him known. We do it throughout different avenues our entire lives, right? We, your calling, your gifting. What you are supposed to be doing with your time at 16 is different, probably, than what you're supposed to be doing with your time at 36. Right? But just even to sit before the Lord, and say, God, how does this business fit in with my larger calling? What is my larger calling? Right. Those are questions that only the Lord can answer. Okay. And you need to have him answer those, because until you get that from the Lord, you're just constantly searching. But after you get that from the Lord, it's pretty dang easy to put the blinders on and run your race. Yes, sometimes you have to sit down and take a nap. But when you know what you're called to do and you spend time, intimate time with the one who is calling you to do it and calling you to serve him and reach people for him, when you know that it is so much easier to overcome the things that feel really hard right now. So that is my last tip for you, and I'm going to pray us out, and then I'll be back at you next week with a different topic. Okay. Well, Lord, I just lift up these precious, precious people to you. Father, I thank you for the callings and the gifts that you have given them. Father, I thank you that you have gifted them to serve people, to bring forth your glory into the earth through their businesses. Father, I thank you that there truly is no time or distance in the spirit. And whenever they're listening to this, Father, I pray that it reaches them, that it touches them deep within their hearts. Father and Holy Spirit, I ask that you would go and you administer to them that whatever they need, that you would meet their needs, that you would speak love, you would speak life, you would speak encouragement to the hearts that are downtrodden. And, Father, I ask that you would help them recall the goodness that you have poured over their lives. Father, if they are in a position where they feel like they're facing a giant, I ask that you would help them to remember the times that you came through for them. Like David said, the same God that helped me defeat the lion and the bear will help me defeat this Philistine. Lord, help them to recognize and identify the lions and the bears. Help to remember the lions and the bears that you have helped them defeat and to go forth and walk boldly in your covenant, Lord, as they face what feels like a Goliath right now. And, Lord, I also ask that you would surround them with people who will encourage them, who will speak life and truth into them and silence their ears to the voice of the enemy, silence their ears to the voices of those who are going to speak. Discouragement. And, Lord, I ask you, would help them to turn to you, to set aside those things, those weights and sins that so easily, easily be set. Set aside the distractions that would try to steal from their time with you. Set aside everything that would hinder them running their race and finishing well. And Lord, we just give you the glory and the praise in Jesus mighty, mighty name. Amen. All right y', all, we'll talk to you next week. Until then, be blessed. Love ya. Podcast Summary: Ep 233 // Struggling with Burnout? 6 MORE Powerful Biblical Principles for Victory
Podcast Information:
In Episode 233 of "Simple SEO and Marketing," Faith Hanan addresses a critical issue faced by many entrepreneurs: burnout. Recognizing that much of the conversation around burnout lacks a Christian perspective, Faith aims to provide biblical insights and practical strategies to help Christian business owners overcome exhaustion and maintain their passion for their work.
Faith emphasizes the importance of placing Jesus at the core of business endeavors. Without Jesus, endeavors lack direction and sustainability. She underscores that true success and the ability to overcome burnout stem from a strong spiritual foundation.
"If Jesus is not the center of it all, we're going nowhere real fast." (00:45)
Faith discusses the first principle: asking for help. She acknowledges that budget constraints can make outsourcing challenging but highlights the importance of delegating tasks that are not within one's zone of genius. By doing so, entrepreneurs can reduce their burden and allow others to utilize their gifts.
"Sometimes we as entrepreneurs ... have such a tight grip on all of the things." (04:20)
The second principle involves reframing the concept of success. Faith encourages entrepreneurs to assess whether their feelings of burnout are tied to the level of success they're experiencing. She advises using scripture to reaffirm one's identity and purpose, enhancing resilience against discouragement.
"Discouragement is not from the Lord... I am more than a conqueror in Christ." (12:15)
Faith introduces the concept of streamlining and simplifying business operations by eliminating ineffective strategies. She shares her personal experience of abandoning Instagram due to low ROI, illustrating the importance of focusing on what truly works.
"Just removing things that aren't working or simplifying things that are overly complicated can take so much stress off of your plate." (18:50)
The fourth principle revolves around recognizing and leveraging one's unique gifts. Faith stresses the difference between what entrepreneurs can do versus what they are truly gifted to do. She shares a personal anecdote about her distaste for accounting despite her proficiency, highlighting the value of allowing others to handle tasks that don't align with one's strengths.
"What are you really gifted to do? Not what can you do." (25:10)
Faith highlights the importance of having genuine fun as a remedy for burnout. She recalls a conversation with her husband that led her to rediscover her passion for barrel racing, demonstrating how engaging in enjoyable activities can rejuvenate one's spirit and reduce stress.
"What have I done lately that's fun? And just making time to do that fun thing can really, really, really help with burnout." (33:20)
The final principle encourages entrepreneurs to align their business with their divine calling. Faith advises prayerfully considering how their business fits into their broader God-given mission, which provides clarity and purpose, making it easier to overcome challenges.
"Have him answer those, because until you get that from the Lord, you're just constantly searching." (38:45)
Faith Hanan wraps up the episode by reinforcing the significance of integrating faith with business practices. By applying these six biblical principles, Christian entrepreneurs can effectively combat burnout, maintain their enthusiasm, and achieve sustainable growth. She closes with a heartfelt prayer, seeking divine support for her listeners and encouraging them to stay connected through her Facebook community and other resources.
