Well, hey pals, I have a special guest with me here today. As you all know, I don't do guest episodes very often because I want him to be somebody that I genuinely want to connect with and share with y'. All. So today I have Jan Touchberry with me. Jan and I connected a while back when she joined my course ssf Simple SEO Framework and group coaching. And she's since just been such a joy and it's been really fun to hear from her and learn from her. And so I wanted to bring her on to share her with y' all today. She truly has some really cool gifts that I want to touch on and talk about today. So, Jan, thank you for joining us today. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do and how you got where you are in business, because I'm genuinely curious.
C
Well, it's, it's an interesting story. First of all, thank you for having me. I really appreciate it. I've been listening to your podcast since I discovered it, and it's amazing. You have so much wisdom that you drop. And I personally appreciate the faith aspect of it. Not like the faith is in the person of you, although I do appreciate you. But I appreciate your. The fact that you are not afraid to bring your Christianity and your love for Jesus to the forefront because that in business is really hard for people. And I don't know why I'm tearing up just even talking about this, because it's just beautiful to see how you work, weave that into everything you do because it's the core of who you are. And that just makes it so special to, to have you in my earbuds every week listening to your podcast. So thank you so much for that. I appreciate it.
A
Thank you. I'm over here, like trying not to cry my mascara off. Yeah.
C
So a little bit about me. I have been in full time vocational ministry for most of my adult life. I, my, I'm a PK and so I was literally born into the church. And I feel like when you come from that background, you're either like in it like a thousand percent or you're away from it a thousand percent. And I am one of those that is in it a thousand percent. And so I've held a lot of jobs at the church over the years, but my, my current job is doing production. So I am all things service, production and worship and all of those things. I just love that space. But I, I had a stint a few years ago where I was in the communications department and I was bored and I know, right? And so it's like when I don't have enough to do, it's not really a good thing. You want to keep me busy all the time. So I didn't have enough to do at work and so I decided I'll just start my own business. And so that's what I did. And it has grown into a man I couldn't have seen this three years ago because where I started was just network marketing. And I just. Network marketing. I mean, there are people who make a lot of money network marketing. But it started with network marketing and then me developing systems and processes for the people that were on my team because the company that we were with didn't really have any. And so people would come to me and they would see the systems and processes that my team was using. They're like, can we use that? I'm like, absolutely, you can use that. And so it just really kind of grew from there. Systems and processes and helping people be more organized and automated. Automation is a big thing that I teach people. But then three years ago, the Lord had me in a mastermind and the woman who leads the mastermind was listening to everything that I do and listening to me talk during a hot seat coaching one day and she said, you own a brand development agency, that's what you do. And I went, what? And it. I had never framed it that way, but it really is what I do. And so just having the clarity that she was able to bring during that mastermind. Over the course of those months, I've really been able to hone what I do and who I help and how I help them. And I am passionate about helping people develop a brand where they are able to use the gifts and the abilities and the talents that the Lord has given them and to get their voice out into the world, but also his voice out into the world.
A
That's awesome. I love that. I did not know that you were still in full time ministry. I love that girl. That's awesome. I love it. I love that so much. And I love that it's like what you do has grown.
C
Yeah.
A
It's evolved. Because I feel like so often we sit and we're like, I do this thing and I am this thing and I do this thing and I do it forever and ever and ever. And unless I figure out what this one thing is, I'm lost.
C
Right.
A
You know, whereas a lot of times I feel like the Lord will give us, like he'll be, He'll. He builds us. Right. It's like he's building his house and he's building us in these skills and he's like, okay, here's this skill and here this, here's this skill and here's this skill and here's this skill and he puts it all together in this fun, evolving package that we constantly need him and his help with. Yep.
C
I totally agree, 100%. Yeah.
A
As I'm preaching to myself, like, oh, yeah, faith. Okay. Anyway, so one of the fun things that I have seen, like, just in working with you and doing, you know, helping you inside of the ssf, is you are so gifted. I see a couple of things. Just your ability to systemize things, like, okay, here's how to make this organized. Here's how to automate this. Here's how to make this piece work, like, with your email systems and how you help people get their email set up, like, praise the Lord. And. And also in collaborations.
C
Yeah.
A
Which I think is really fun for a couple of reasons. One, I think it is so representative of the heart of God.
C
Yes.
A
To say, you're good at this, you're good at this. Let's put you together and you do something wonderful. Right. I also think it's amazing because I feel like that is something that is, like, true collaboration doesn't happen very often in today's marketing environment. I mean, we've all had those. Seen those Facebook posts. Like, I just want a bunch of new friends to follow on Instagram. Let's all follow each other and collab and build each other up. When you just get a follow and a like. And that's all that ever, ever is.
C
Right. Yeah.
A
And then you're out, and then your algorithm is skewed, you know, and it's like, people always just want to, hey, pat my back instead of, hey, I have this thing that I'd like to offer you and. And truly work together and collaborate. And so I was this morning, as I was thinking about our. Something fun we have coming up that we'll get into later. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. I was thinking about that, and I was thinking about you, and I was like, what was that book? And I was thinking back to. It's a Malcolm Gladwell book called Tipping Point. Have you ever read it?
C
I. I have. It's amazing.
A
And you are a connector.
C
Yeah.
A
And it's so clear. It's like, oh, yeah, Jan is. Jan knows this person that does this thing and this person that does this thing, and they would work together well, and this would fit and this would fit and this. But this wouldn't, you know, like, that's so you, and it's so genuinely you. Because when it's not. When people are. When that's not genuine, you can tell.
C
Absolutely. Yeah.
A
And I've been invited into some things, and I'm like, no, this is not a collaboration. Asking me to lie to my people and tell me that I like you. And I don't even know you.
C
Oh, God.
A
So I don't do them.
C
Yeah.
A
So if you're listening to this podcast, I've never done those. Okay. But talk to me a little bit about, like, your heart behind collaboration. Yeah. And just the vision that God has given you there.
C
Yeah. So I will say that I. I think my heart for collaboration started in the church because working in ministry for so long, I believe that the way the kingdom grows is through collaboration. And unfortunately, there are so many people that, not just in the church world, but in the world in general are so afraid that their stuff's gonna get stolen or you're gonna steal their people. And I've seen it in church world where churches don't wanna collaborate with each other because they're afraid you're gonna steal their sheep. I'm, like, feeling your sheep. We're trying to get the name of Jesus out there, right?
A
There's. There's plenty of lost sheep to be had.
C
Plenty, Plenty. And I feel like that translates so well into business. I'm not trying to steal your people. We're not the same, but we are complementary. And we can build each other up because people need what we all have. And it. I mean, this can sound so cliche, right? It's like some. Some political sign that you see somewhere. Better together. We're better together.
B
But.
C
But it's true. We are better together. When we collaborate, something magical can happen. And I love seeing when women especially, can put aside the. The pettiness. You know, I mean, we can be mean girls. We really can. There's. There's a lot of mean girls. I. I don't deal with mean girls. I don't like them. I don't have time for the girl drama. And so when you can put aside the drama and you can genuinely collaborate and. And really look into how somebody was gifted, and then it comes together. It's so beautiful. And what comes out of that, like, genuinely through some collaborations, just like even pod swaps like we're doing today, I've made some really great friends that it's not just we swap a podcast episode and then never talk to each other. No, no. These women I'm doing collaborations with as. As we continue on working together and collaborating with each other. And it's. It's amazing. I love it.
A
That's awesome. That's. I think, too. I mean, I'm just thinking back to, like, the root of that, like, not wanting to share, not wanting to help.
C
Yeah.
A
That probably goes back to identity issues, like, not knowing who you are in Christ and who. He's created you and. And that he is enough.
C
Yeah.
A
You know, it's like. And I know that there's probably, like, the world is going to call it scarcity issues or whatever, but it's like, just the other day I was reading in Leviticus, like, you know, the most. The most exciting book in the Bible. Not.
C
It's that time. If you're writing the Bible in a year, it is.
A
It is that time of year. And, and there was just this. This, this portion where it's talking about the. The offerings, the gold given for the lampstands and accessories. And I like to do math. And so I just, like, ran some quick numbers. I'm like, what's the price of gold today? How many pounds? How many ounces? Like, how much would that have been? It was $7 million. Yeah. $7 million worth of gold given for the lampstands and accessories for the temple of God. And you're going to sit here and tell me that he doesn't have enough people or enough clients to meet your needs?
C
Right?
A
Don't think so.
C
Right.
A
You know, not. Not you, but, you know, and that's. So. It's just like one of that, like, to me, it goes back to, like, God, your source. Like, who is he gifted and created you to be the personality he gave you? And when you can just be confident in that, like, oh, yeah, sure, I can collaborate with somebody else who does brand development or website development or copywriting or whatever. Like, because it's ultimately, it's the gift God put in you that's going to make room for you.
C
Well, and I. I totally agree with that. At. There was. I think it was Andy Stanley. Maybe I was. I went to a Willow Creek leadership summit years ago, and I think it was Andy Stanley that was speaking, and he was talking about his staff, and somebody asked him the question. He was probably on a panel or something, but they asked him why he believes that his church and his ministry has been so successful over the years.
A
And.
C
And he said, that's an easy question to answer. I surround myself with people who are smarter than I am in ways that I'm not. And I feel like if we as business owners looked at collaboration that way, we're not all good at everything. We're not.
A
Right.
C
And if we surround ourselves, get in the sphere of people who are smarter and better at the things that we're weak at it, y'.
A
All.
C
I mean, the sky's the limit.
A
Right?
C
The sky's the limit and not be
A
Afraid to ask questions.
C
Right?
A
Yeah. Without being an. Like you're gonna ask me a question, you better listen.
C
Yep.
A
And I've, you know, because it's. But, but yeah, like that's because it's hum. It's. It's humbling to ask questions and admit that you don't know.
C
Yeah.
A
But it's the only way we grow.
C
That's so true.
A
Also, that's a bumper sticker right there if I ever saw one.
C
Yep.
A
Oh, that's fun. So just so y' all know, I'm gonna drop it here. Slash, I probably already told you email pals, because I tell my email pals everything, including awkward moments. We have. Jan had this idea for a workflow swap. Is that, is that, that's what it's called, right? A workflow swap.
C
A workflow exchange.
A
Workflow, yeah. Workflow exchange. There we go. The workflow exchange where she got to get. Got a group of women, all Christian women together on different areas of expertise and was like, here, please submit your workflow. And we're going to share workflows with each other and each other's audiences, right? Yep. Okay. Before, if I miss, you know, if I misspeak, tell me. Because sometimes my words.
C
You got it.
A
You know, and to me that is such a valuable asset as opposed to just like, summits have their place. They do. I love some certain summits. I've been a part of some really great summits. Summits have their place. But sometimes I'm like, just tell me how to do the dang thing right. Give me the stinking checklist. Tell me where to click, what to do, how many times to hit that button to get the results. And so I love that we are going to be able to exchange workflows in this and share actual. Hey, click here. Do this thing.
C
Yeah.
A
But I want you to talk to me a little bit about the importance of workflows in your business and in how you help clients. Because I feel like sometimes people get the idea they hear workflow. I know I used to get hear the workflow and I think that's a really fancy thing. And I'm not real fancy.
C
Yeah.
A
I am not a click up child. That's too much for me.
C
Yeah.
A
You know, I'm like, give me the pen and paper type of a kid. I mean, I still have Meister Task, but sometimes it's just like, I don't need the fancy thing. What even is a workflow? That sounds expensive or like I need a lot of help to do it. So tell us in your, in your own words, Jan, tell us what a workflow is.
C
Yeah, I will do it. I, I did get Meister task by the way.
A
And I'm like, you love it.
C
I do love it.
A
Yes. Yeah, kind of a convert.
C
Yes. I, I like you. I'm not a ClickUp person. I have, I'm, I am by nature a very organized person. I need organization to move forward, but also the way that my brain works. I have a really hard time finding systems that help me stay organized. I too pen and paper person, but I also love like post it notes and they're everywhere and I, you know, and so workflows are basically a, this is how you do a certain process in your business from start to finish. It's almost like a checklist that you're going to step through and it's going to get you results that, that I think is, is for me, I'm only going to speak for me. Part of the problem with all the summits and things like that is we keep amassing knowledge. I call it the knowledge cycle. It's just a cycle that keeps going and going and going and it's like a really bad roundabout that you can't get off, right? You just keep going, but there's never any action that goes to it. You're just going in circles. And so when I feel like the Lord dropped this idea of this collaboration into my spirit, I'm like, I want to give people something that is actionable. It's going to teach you something, but it's also very actionable. So I am big on processes. In your business you have to have certain processes in place in order to run a business, right? So I got, I got my friends who know these processes and they all agreed to give their best tips on a simple process that they can implement inside this workflow exchange. And so you're going to get 10 of them over the course of two weeks. Monday through Friday, you're going to get an email, one a day. It's going to introduce the expert of the day and their workflow, what it's all about. And then you get to download it and you can implement it into your business. And these are not things that you're gonna go, oh, well I need like three out of, out of ten of these days. No, no, no, you're gonna look at these and you're gonna go, I need all 10 of them and it's gonna be amazing.
A
Yeah. And to me that's so exciting because it's like here are 10 checklists, essentially yep. You know, step by step of how to do this thing in your business. Because, you know, I've been in business for, I guess, And still I'm like, how do you do that? Google. And like, sometimes Google is great and sometimes it's like, I just want to see a person do the dang thing.
C
Yeah.
A
And see how it actually works in a real life business with real life humans and not just some random on YouTube that lives in Great Britain.
C
Well, and I think that's also with. With the, with the rise of the AI generated answers. Right. That you get served up when you're asking a question. Like, I had that today. I was looking at how to turn something on in zoom, because I couldn't hear you. Like, how do I. And it told me the wrong thing. It's telling me, click here, click here. I'm like, no, your data is wrong because my zoom doesn't look like what you just told me. And so a lot of times, even the things that we're searching for on the Internet that we think are right may not be right. And so that's the beautiful thing about this particular workflow exchange is that these women, I know that what they're giving to people is a workflow that they have implemented and works in their own very successful businesses. And so it's something that you can trust. You don't have to ask, is this really the way that you're supposed to do it? Is this really the right way? No, it is the right way because it's something that they've utilized or utilize on a regular basis and have proof that it actually is working. Yeah.
A
Yeah. Which is so cool. So can you rattle off the people who are going to be there? Because I don't know all of them. And I'm excited.
C
Yeah, yeah.
A
And what they do, because some of these people I know, some of them I don't. Yep.
C
I. Let me. I'm going to pull up my list so I don't mess somebody up. So you are going to bring all of your XBO SEO expertise, which I'm super excited about. And then I have. I have Tracy Hoth, who is going to tell people how to organize their digital files.
A
Oh, yay.
C
Which I think is so great. And then I have my good friend Rachel Wortman, who is going to give you a simple business finance checklist.
A
Oh, bless it.
C
I know. She is. She is flat out amazing. I. She is a book that I have read no less than three times.
A
Nice.
C
Yeah. On finance, we've got Lissa Figgins, who is going to talk about time management. And then Gabe Cox is going to give us a God honoring goal setting workflow, which is great. My friend Lindsay Fletcher is going to talk about a sales workflow. Sales and sales follow up workflow, which I know somebody just cringed when I said the sales word, but y', all, we all sell, right? And she's going to tell you how to do it in a way that isn't cringy. Yeah, just fantastic. And then my good friend Melissa Hughes, she is all things content, and she's going to tell you a good easy way to start with long form content and then repurpose it really simply. And then I think that's every. Oh, nope, One more person. I have Frances Jean. She is a therapist and she's going to talk to us about how as entrepreneurs, we can make sure that we're regulating our nervous system on a regular basis so that we can stay grounded and centered and are not, like, spinning out of control.
A
Oh, nice.
C
And that's going to be super important. And then your friend Amy is going to talk about email workflow.
A
Yeah, and Amy. Me. Yeah, and you and you.
C
Yeah, I'm doing a podcast production workflow.
A
Nice, nice. Yeah. We were talking. Jan and I were talking about email, somebody. That's really great email. And I was like, oh, we need Amy, because Amy is like the queen of poop in a group. And Amy's been my OBM for, I don't know, no less than six. Like six months or less. Like she had a baby in there. So there's been some maternity leave.
C
Oh, gosh.
A
Yeah. And she is just amazing at the. The back end. And like, we've streamlined some email sequences and some email tagging and stuff. And she's helped me do that for clients. And I'm like, oh, bless you. Like, her brain thinks systems. And I'm like, oh, praise the Lord.
C
Praise the Lord. We were excited about that. She actually was kind of the. The missing piece in this whole workflow exchange because I knew that people needed an email workflow. I. I talk to people every single day in my business that talk about the pains and agonies of email marketing. And that was kind of the missing link. And I could have done it, but I really wanted to do podcasting. And so when you said, oh, we should get Amy, I'm like, yes, let's get Amy.
A
That's cool. That's cool. That's fun. Well, I'm excited for this. I will be sharing it a lot with my email list. So if y' all are email pals. You'll be hearing about this, but tell us where we should go to sign up for this and links and all that stuff.
C
Yeah, it's super easy. It's the workflow exchange.com and you can go, all the information's there and then the workflows will start flowing out to you mid March. And then if for some reason you're listening to this post, workflow exchange, we're gonna, we'll close it. But then you can get on a wait list for the next time it opens up to start getting these workflows. So we want to make sure that everybody who needs them can get a hold of them.
A
Well, cool. Well, Jan, if you had some words of encouragement for somebody in the thick of business right now, like struggling with, you know, how to keep up, what would you tell them?
C
That's really good. I feel like the best advice that I could give you is get with the Lord.
A
Mm.
C
Because he's really been impressing on my heart lately that you know the verse, seek first the kingdom and then all the things will be added to you. I think it's Matthew and I don't think we take it seriously enough in our business. We're so busy doing all of the tasks and the checklists and the, you know, all the, the next thing and the next thing and the next thing that we forget when we seek his kingdom first, everything else is going to fall into line because we're going to be aligned with him. And I think that's the most important thing that you can do as a business owner. Just get with the king.
A
That's awesome. Well, thank you so much, Jan.
B
I appreciate it.
A
And we will have that link the workflow exchange.com inside of the show notes and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to infoaithannon.com and we'll get back to you about it. So thank you for coming on the show today, Jan. I appreciate it.
C

A
