Dave
I think I see a shadow fragmenting there's no tomorrow Door slam shut hey, yeah, that's our new Rewind, Rewind.
Jess
We're doing rewind, rewind, rewind, rewind. Welcome, everyone. If you don't know us, my name is Jess.
Chris
Hi, it's great to meet you.
Jess
For the listeners. Who are you guys?
Chris
I thought we were pretending.
Dave
This is Dave and Chris.
Jess
No, yeah, Dave and Chris, who are two of the founders of the company and also they help make the shows. And I'm Jess and I. Well, I mean, I'm social media and I also host Rewind and the three of us do Rewind together, where we rewind shows, like six minutes and we've rewound other shows like Becoming Mother Nature, Discovering Dad, Fourth and Inches.
Dave
Yeah. I'm realizing now that, like, this is gonna be on a feed where maybe people don't know that's what I'm saying. Oh, okay. Yeah. Now I can.
Chris
What does that mean when we rewind a show?
Jess
What it means when we rewind a show is we listen to clips and we talk about our favorite lines of dialogue, our favorite noises, sound design, talk.
Chris
About some behind the scenes stuff.
Jess
Exactly. And sometimes actors, sometimes we have super fans on. So it's really a blast.
Dave
If you haven't listened to Rewind, it's an amazing audience. Like, if you're a Rewind fan, like, we just have the best. Like, we listen. All of our shows have great.
Jess
We grew it this year.
Dave
What's that?
Jess
We grew it this year.
Dave
I know. It's getting like. It's crazy.
Jess
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We love y'all. So we're recording this on December 20th. It's a very good time for us to reflect on this year and the amazing things that we have accomplished, which is a lot. Yeah.
Unknown
Why are you laughing?
Jess
I think it's okay to be proud of the stuff we do.
Dave
Yeah. That's why I put the intro together, because we just. I took a bunch of music from all the various shows. We put out this year, and I. I didn't even get to all of them. I just was like, something right before. Cause Jess was late. Come in. Kiss your cab. No. And I was like, oh, I got a few minutes, and I just threw it. I just threw it together.
Jess
So we're good. It's so great. So I threw together some clips of the shows that we did this year, but the big ones that were really exciting were 4th and inches, discovering dad, Cyrus, the Lost Tapes, Nightingale, Halloween Six Minutes, season four. That is so much stuff, y'all.
Dave
Yeah.
Chris
Hidden Island.
Dave
Hidden Island.
Jess
Hidden Island. Well, that's not out until next year.
Chris
Well, yeah, right.
Jess
You know, we'll see.
Dave
But also. Also working on really hard on shows that have yet to come out, too. Like, there's just, like. We're the busiest group of.
Jess
I thought you were gonna say we're the best, but we are the best.
Dave
We are the best. We are the best.
Chris
We're up there.
Jess
That's true. But, yeah, I was putting together clips, and I was thinking about how much I. I really loved 4th and inches.
Chris
Me too.
Jess
Me too. There was really something special. Like, it's. That's where we got the joke about me being left out in the rain.
Dave
Can I just be my favorite moment of rehearsal. Speaking of rewind, I was gonna say. Is that your favorite moment of rewind?
Jess
I really do. I love it because it's hilarious, and it's an acknowledgement.
Chris
It's hilarious. It's an acceptance.
Jess
I also had a part in 4th and inches, Desiree, which was a big deal for me.
Chris
Sure.
Jess
I was a big fan of the character Pete.
Dave
Should we listen to a Pete clip?
Jess
Yeah, let's play some Pete.
Dave
Here's Pete.
Emma
I just checked the weather app, and it's 80 degrees and sunny there right now.
Dave
I miss sunny days.
Chris
Poor Pete. Stuck in Cleveland.
Jess
We got to work with the absolutely incredible Tony Todd, the legend who very sadly passed away recently. And we're just so lucky that we got him to play such an amazing character.
Chris
As much as he was so great. Such a nice guy, too.
Dave
Yep. So we should listen to a bit of him, too.
Jess
Yeah. I haven't got that there.
Chris
What is this coat?
Unknown
Derek, seeing you shine these last few weeks has been one of the greatest gifts I ever gotten as a coach. I went to this crazy experiment thinking, hey, if our ship is sinking, at least I gave Derek and his little girl one last crack at the big time. And you made me proud, Fitz. You'll always be like a son to me. You and Winnie, you're my family for life.
Chris
Say what you gotta say Coach.
Unknown
This job, it's all I ever wanted. But sometimes I miss just being a high school coach, you know, coaching X's and O's, shaping young minds. No politics, nobody to answer to up there in the owner's box.
Jess
We're so lucky.
Dave
Oh, my gosh.
Jess
Aren't we?
Chris
Oh, amazing.
Dave
Yeah.
Jess
Yeah. Fourth Inches was such a great show. And then we moved on to Discovering dad, which was such a blast. Very different, tonally.
Dave
When we asked you a question, Discovering Dads, it's not that it's different from what we normally do, but I remember thinking, like, oh, this is good. Like, it's gonna be great, you know? But it was a little surprising. People loved it. Would you say? Even more than we thought that they would.
Jess
I think, y'all. Yeah, yeah. I feel like I knew that it was something special.
Dave
Right.
Jess
Right off the bat, and I was like, yeah, people love it.
Dave
And I don't mean that. I mean, listen, it's great.
Jess
No, just because it's really great. Yeah.
Dave
And it's like a little bit more popcorn.
Unknown
Y.
Dave
In a way, like, you know, Is that a word?
Chris
It was more condensed. It was like an eight episode. And so it was kind of like a movie as opposed. So what? Didn't go quite as deep as some of our shows, I think. But it was just fun.
Jess
It was just so fun.
Dave
And kind of like. And kind of like, I know when we were doing. We were talking about, like, this in that sort of B movie vein of, like, Indiana Jones and all that sort of stuff, which was itself a tribute to, like, all those sort of. Yeah.
Chris
And to old serialized radio.
Dave
Exactly.
Jess
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I wrote down the Wonderful World of Rocks, which is one of my favorite lines in all of kzm. The fight sequences were amazing. Adolf Godley's moment at the end.
Dave
We gotta listen to Rocks. Yeah.
Jess
The Wonderful world of rocks.
Dave
Sometimes it's the most simple things.
Jess
Yeah. Oh. I wrote the scariest moment in a GZM show. That was when, you know, we. We don't have to play that one because it is actually quite scary. When Godly went blind. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Dave
I see here. I actually played it beforehand. I was like, boy, that's pretty scary.
Jess
It is. I was really delighted that we let a Broadway star sing, because we sometimes don't. Yes, yes.
Chris
And often we have them. We tell them not to sing well.
Dave
That'S actually really hard for them when we ask them to not sing well.
Jess
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then I Think after that was Cyrus, the Lost tapes. And that was also. We got the iconic line, I'm just a girl with a glitch. Got introduced to the amazing character of angel. And.
Dave
Is that a T shirt yet?
Jess
No, I need to. Fine. I'll do my job. And Cyrus legs. And that movie was also scary. The whole business of Cyrus and Angel at the end was really. I think I complimented y'all on this. Before that, I really liked the writing when it was just two characters. Like what you can do with just two characters.
Chris
That's great. And there's some really nice Cyrus and Angel stuff coming up too.
Jess
I'm looking forward to that.
Chris
Yeah.
Jess
Then we did Nightingale Halloween, and they got to go back underground. Really fun hanging out with the actors for their sessions too. I know that the fans and them are itching for season two.
Chris
Right?
Jess
Well.
Dave
And also. But one, you just had a big fan release today that came out from Nightingale.
Jess
Yes. Stronger Every Day. Stronger Every Day is on all streaming platforms.
Dave
Yeah, I know.
Jess
We're working on.
Dave
Popped up in my email this morning when I couldn't sleep at 3:30 in the morning, I was like, ooh, it's out.
Chris
Yeah, it's a great song.
Jess
We're working on releasing even more GZM songs. And then now we've been working on Smoot 4. Can you play the high clip?
Dave
Yeah. Bryn. Hi.
Jess
Finally.
Dave
Hi. Hi.
Jess
Hi.
Dave
I think that's the line reading of the year.
Jess
Yeah.
Dave
I think you can just get from that one clip. I feel like even if you've never seen the show, you'd be like, I need to see this show. I know.
Chris
I know who she is. Yes.
Dave
Just in like, one word. It's amazing.
Chris
Hi.
Jess
We're getting to work with these actors. Some of them y'all have known since they were 11 and now they're 18. Like we were saying in the rewind episode that these characters are. They've always been really amazing actors, but it's like you don't even have to direct them anymore because they know their roles so well.
Chris
And I won't spoil the reason why.
Unknown
What?
Chris
But Ava directed a few scenes for us the other night.
Jess
What?
Dave
She did? Yeah.
Jess
Really?
Chris
There's a very special reason that we'll talk about when we get there.
Jess
Yes.
Emma
I'm so excited.
Dave
Oh, my gosh.
Jess
That's wonderful. Oh, that's so exciting.
Dave
It's such a great story.
Chris
It's really fun.
Dave
I wish we could share it with you, but we can't. I'm sorry.
Jess
Okay. Not a big deal.
Chris
Yes. But Ava, besides being a great actress and doing all these great things, she teaches acting as well, so.
Dave
Wow.
Chris
Yes.
Jess
Yeah, that. Honestly, that doesn't surprise me. She's amazing. And I really want y'all to pat yourselves on the back for the song that you created this year.
Dave
Oh, for the.
Chris
I'll pat Chris on the back.
Dave
Yeah.
Jess
You created a pop star.
Dave
That's true.
Jess
I did.
Dave
I created a fake fictitious pop star.
Jess
Yeah. What do y'all think about this? About this year? How do you feel about, like, think about where you were when you made Mars and think about, like, would you ever imagine that you could accomplish this much in just a year?
Dave
I think one of the things that I always look back on, even when we're doing it, is just, like, the fact that, like, it started out just Ben, Dave, and I, and now it's just, like, so many great people.
Jess
Yeah.
Dave
And like, everybody's just. I mean, they're doing. Everybody's doing their job, obviously, but they're all doing it. They're all doing. We're all doing it because. And everybody's doing it because they love it.
Chris
Yeah. Everybody's bringing something, like, even.
Dave
Even. Like, everybody cares on such a level.
Jess
That it's just lucked out with the collection of people you did. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Chris
It's a great group.
Dave
I think you collect.
Chris
We should have a party.
Dave
You know what we should do? We should have a Christmas party.
Jess
Dave is. Dave has to run home and get ready for the party we're about to have.
Chris
Yeah. I got hair and makeup waiting at my house.
Jess
And. And the biggest people. The biggest thing we have to thank is you, listener.
Chris
That's the most amazing.
Dave
Yeah, I have some good music. Alp music for that.
Jess
Okay, great.
Dave
Okay, you ready? We're going to do some out music. You can talk over it.
Jess
And the people we have to thank the most this year. That's you, listener.
Dave
I love it. Everybody gets quiet.
Jess
Thank you so much for joining us for all the adventures, all the laughter, all the tears.
Dave
Yeah.
Unknown
Wouldn't be a show without you.
Chris
All the great mailbags.
Jess
All the great mailbags.
Dave
Go over to the rewind feed, and if you like what you hear, join us every week.
Jess
I think it'd be a great time.
Chris
Five stars. We like five stars.
Jess
Happy 2024.
Chris
Perfect.
Jess
Happy 2025.
Dave
Shh. It's starting.
