If you really enjoyed this episode, you could go over to the GZM Rewind right now. Listen to our commentary on it featuring Zeph Buffay, AKA Simon Andre himself. Simon. AKA Simon Andre. Exactly. AKA Saibot. But for now, we're just gonna chat a little bit about that song. So, guys, what was it like to make that song? What was the beginning process? Whose idea was it? It was my idea. Yeah. When we started the season. I mean, look, we're not gonna beat around the bush here. I think it kind of came from, though, Dave inspired the end of season three, Right. When we were doing the. When you. I think that's right. We decided we were going to play. Yeah. And then I thought I had that. The idea of what if during the time that Cyrus was gone, he was a pop star and a one hit wonder in Germany. And so I wrote to Chris and I was like, had this idea. You think you could come up with a. With an 80s Germany pop song for Cyrus? Chris. I was examples of like, what that could be and stuff. I talked about Phineas and Ferb. Did an episode where the dad is. Yeah, that was. That was a big touch point. That's perfect. Moto, I think is. Yeah. So I was thinking about that and then. Yeah, then Chris ran with it. Yeah. You know, with stuff like this, where it's supposed to be of a time and a little bit kind of tongue in cheek, you have to be careful not to get too deeply stuck into it. And so you just need to, like, put it out. You just need to get it done. And I think I did it in probably half an hour. It was so fast. I sent it to Dave. I'm like, what do you think of this? Yeah, I think I did in half an hour. So what I sometimes do with this is I start with a song that represents to me everything that the 80s is. And I think there's one song in particular that is. Well, there's a couple tunes that I thought about when doing this. But when I first started out, I started out with the drum groove that's on maybe one of the best 80s pop tunes ever. This is the groove for the show. Right, Right. Oh, I thought it. I thought it might be that. Right. It's the same tempo because all the. All the tunes were the same tempo. Everything was 120 beats per minute in those days. Yeah. There was, like, a very specific, very small window that you could have the tempos of tunes, because that's like the dance. That's like the dance tempo. If it's 125, it's too fast. You had to be able to do this, too. Yeah. If it's 118, it's too slow. So 120. Dave just did a funny dance for those who are listening. Yeah. 120 beats per minute was like Courtney Cox and Dancing in the dark. Yeah. 120 beats per minute was like what everything was. And that's why when you open up Pro Tools, it's automatically set to 120. No way. That's the music history right there. So just did that and then just started. I think I came up with whatever the synth part is, and it's. Just threw it all together. And then like Dave Waker said before that the coolest part of my job is that I just get to go, hey, what if Cyrus had a pop song from. And then they just do it. And then like, an hour later, there it is. That is. That is like we were talking about in the show in our rewriting episode. Yeah. Basically, when I sent it to Dave, I just had rhythmic lyrics, you know, me just singing it. And then. And then I had the bridge, I think, lyrics and stuff. But then I sent it to Ben because Ben has experience writing lyrics for a lot of. Ben is another GZM show's creator. Yeah. And so he did the lyrics, and then we just sort of threw it together. And that's what you hear. Yeah. And we had a great time just chatting with Zeff right before this. And it was fun to say, like, how did you feel about singing? And he does not have a music background and absolutely killed this. But he did mention that, of course, we have two other actors in this show who have been on Broadway, so. Ava, he was singing with them. All three of them were there together. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The other touchpoint for this song was rock me Amadeus. Oh, the Amadeus. Yeah. That was like. That was. That was a big touch point. So something. So, you know, a lot of times it's like you just gotta get the feel and the vibe of what it is and put the right instruments together and then. Yeah. Well, it's great. Shall we listen to it? Let's listen to it. Let's check it out. And if you enjoyed this, head on over to gzm. Rewind and subscribe so you don't miss another episode.
