Jeremy
Wow.
Lee
I love storytelling.
Maya
I'm very different from everybody. Confusion is the step before curiosity.
Lee
Okay, that's a really funny idea. We have to send that in. I just get some joy when I.
Jeremy
Hear other people giggling.
Maya
I believe all the things in my story. Human beings are just able to create the story pirates.
Lee
Okay, everybody, here's what's up. As you may know, every once in a while we invite the entire Creator club to join me and Peter on a Zoom to write a story together. And hundreds of kids from around the world showed up like I said. And together we wrote an incredible story about a hotel on Mars that contains some of the most surprising and bizarre creatures you could ever imagine. And today you are going to hear a performance of that story. And P.S. grown Ups, we're doing this thing again on Zoom with me and Peter in April. And it's not too late to get your kids involved. We're going to write a brand new story together and then adapt it for the podcast, just like in today's episode. Information on how to join us is in the episode description for today's episode. So grown ups, check it out and join us. And without further ado, we now present to you a story by the Story Pirates Creator Club. Here's the birth of the Bagel Geologist.
Kira
Donuts here on Mars. They're all around us. But where do they come from? Usually from a store. But what about ancient donuts. The kind that can only be found here, far beneath the Martian surface. To find those, you'll need a donut geologist like Jeremy here. The mustachioed spider.
Jeremy
Huh? What? Oh, sorry. I was just looking at my phone. Sheesh. I am addicted to this thing.
Kira
Jeremy, tell us, what's it like being a donut geologist?
Jeremy
Oh, it's great. I spent all day in this cave digging, hoping to find a priceless ancient donut. Such as the Boston Cream Crystal, the rainbow metallic donut, or the one I've been searching for the longest, the mystical squid flavored donut.
Kira
And can you show us how it's done?
Jeremy
Yeah, sure. I just dig like this.
Kira
You found one. And if I'm not mistaken, that's the fabled jade donut of.
Lee
What are you doing?
Kira
You're eating it.
Jeremy
Oh, shoot. I got distracted by looking at my phone again.
Kira
Does this happen often?
Jeremy
Pretty much every time.
Maya
Jeremy, why didn't you tell me you were going to be on Martian TV tonight?
Jeremy
Huh?
Maya
Stop looking at your phone.
Jeremy
Oh, sorry.
Maya
That phone is a real problem. Sometimes I think you love technology too much.
Jeremy
Of course I do. That's why I married you. My wild wacky robot.
Maya
Ever since we moved to the 38th floor of this hotel.
Jeremy
Hotel Martian Madness.
Maya
I know what it's called. You've dreamed of donating rare donuts to that museum for ants on the top floor.
Jeremy
The 39th and a third floor.
Maya
But that museum sits empty because you keep eating all the rare donuts.
Jeremy
Oh, Maya, my wild wacky robot. You're right. Starting now, I won't be distracted by. Huh? Do you hear that? What? A capybara just fell out of our ceiling air vent. I am so sorry. As you know, it's so crowded with capybaras on the 39th floor that we sometimes get squeezed into the air vents and fall down here to the 38th floor. We are all too aware. And again, I am so sorry. I'll just be on my way. I've had it up to here with those giant rodents flooding into our apartment.
Maya
Where are you going?
Jeremy
To the 39th floor. I'll be right back. Here I am. Now to give those capybaras a piece of my mind. What? There are thousands of capybaras up here. There's only one way to deal with this. With my freeze ray and. And taco sauce.
Lee
Everyone, look. He's got taco sauce.
Jeremy
And my freeze ray.
Lee
He's freezing up.
Jeremy
Oh, boy. I did not sit this through. I'm being brought into this corner. Oh, No, I can't turn it off. I've gotta get frozen by. Ugh.
Kira
And in that moment, Jeremy froze, as did his mind. But on the outside, time marched on. Things changed, evolved, multiplied. Until finally, one day, Jeremy awoke.
Jeremy
Huh? What's going on?
Kira
It's okay, Jeremy. You've been asleep.
Jeremy
I had the wildest dream.
Kira
You're safe and sound now, back on the good old 10 millionth floor.
Jeremy
10 millionth floor? Who are you? What's going on?
Kira
I'm Kira, head of the unicorn caregivers. And this is is my daycare.
Jeremy
When I went to sleep, There were only 39 and a third floors in this hotel. What happened?
Kira
I'll give you the short version. Centuries ago, you sprayed all those capybara with taco sauce and then froze them, which started a rapid evolution that turned the capybaras into robot spiders dripping with taco sauce that all loved to wear capybara masks. They multiplied so quickly that we needed to build more floors to house them. Oh, and also, they always stayed babies. For some reason, because of this hotel, Martian madness brought in the greatest caregivers in the universe. Unicorns.
Jeremy
Well, this can't be true.
Kira
See for yourself. And open the door to the hallway.
Jeremy
I will. Hello.
Lee
We are baby robot spiders with capybara masks. Will you play with us? No.
Kira
As you can see, we need your help, Jeremy.
Jeremy
Why do you need my help?
Kira
The prophecy says that one day, Jeremy, father of the spiders, will return to go on a great quest to save us all from this hotel's chronic lack of space by seeking out the magical axolotl.
Jeremy
Okay. Nope, I'm out. I just want to go back to my apartment and have a peaceful night.
Maya
You mean look at your phone all evening? Maya, you said you'd be right back. That was hundreds of years ago. But I waited. I did that for you. Now you must do this for me.
Jeremy
Okay, fine. Where do I find this magical axolotl?
Kira
You will find him in the basement.
Jeremy
Oh, I'll just take the elevator down. 10 million floors. I'll be right back. That was not quick. This is no basement.
Lee
It's a mystical donut cave.
Jeremy
Magical axolotl at your service. This cave is full of the rarest ancient donuts I've ever seen.
Lee
You mean like this one?
Jeremy
The mystical squid flavored donut? Don't eat it. I've been looking for that almost as long as the Boston Cream Crystal.
Lee
You mean this one?
Narrator
Yes.
Jeremy
Oh, thank. Thank goodness. Om nom nom. No. Stop eating them.
Lee
What about this one?
Jeremy
The J donut of Doom.
Kira
Om nom nom no. Or this one.
Jeremy
The epic godly extra hyper donut. Om nom nom nom nom, nom, nom nom no. If you keep eating them, then there won't be any level in the museum. I get it now. You're doing what I used to do.
Lee
You have finally learned your lesson. And now that you're listening, I shall give you some magical advice.
Jeremy
Please share with me your wisdom.
Lee
Here it is. Bagels are better.
Jeremy
I see.
Lee
Also, hot dogs are not a sandwich.
Jeremy
Okay, let's put a pin in the hot dog thing. But bagels are better than donuts. You mean like how being present is better than looking at my phone? Because phones, like donuts, only offer passing fulfillment, whereas being present with a loved one is much like a bagel, a heartier meal. Is that what you meant? Magical axolotl?
Lee
Uh, sure.
Maya
Oh, Jeremy, I'm so proud of you.
Jeremy
Maya. I get it now. Let's move out of that hotel and live down here where there's room for us and all of our terrifying robot spider children.
Maya
Are they our children?
Jeremy
Honestly, I don't know. But what do you say, my darling robot wife?
Maya
I say get in here, robot spider children.
Lee
We love you, father.
Jeremy
Wow, they really are terrifying.
Maya
Yes, I love them, too.
Jeremy
And I love you.
Maya
Bring it in, big guy.
Jeremy
Too hard. Robot hug.
Maya
What can I say? I'm wild and wacky.
Jeremy
Wow. This is weird.
Maya
The end.
Lee
We'll be right back after a few.
Jeremy
Words for the grown ups.
Lee

This episode not only showcases the creativity of young minds but also emphasizes the power of collective storytelling.
Lee, the host, opens the episode by expressing his excitement about the collaborative effort:
“...hundreds of kids from around the world came together with myself and Peter to write this story.” [00:01]
He highlights the interactive nature of the Story Pirates Creator Club, where children contribute to writing stories that are then brought to life through performances featuring sketch comedy and original songs. Lee also mentions an upcoming Zoom session in April, inviting more children to join and contribute to future stories.
The heart of the episode is the performance of "The Birth of the Bagel Geologist", a fantastical tale set on Mars, centered around Jeremy, a donut geologist, and his quirky adventures.
Jeremy's Quest:
Jeremy spends his days digging in Martian caves in search of ancient donuts like the Boston Cream Crystal and the mystical squid flavored donut. His obsession, however, leads to comical mishaps.
“I just dig like this.” — Jeremy [03:59]
Distractions and Consequences:
Despite finding valuable donuts, Jeremy's constant distraction with his phone causes problems, including inadvertently eating a fabled jade donut meant for the museum.
“Oh, shoot. I got distracted by looking at my phone again.” — Jeremy [04:12]
Capybara Invasion:
The hotel Jeremy and Maya reside in faces an invasion of capybaras flooding through air vents, leading to chaos. Jeremy's attempt to handle the situation with a freeze ray and taco sauce backfires, resulting in the capybaras evolving into robot spiders.
“I'm being brought into this corner. Oh, No, I can't turn it off. I've gotta get frozen by. Ugh.” — Jeremy [06:05]
A Prophecy Unveiled:
Kira reveals that Jeremy is destined to save the hotel by embarking on a quest to find the magical axolotl, fulfilling an ancient prophecy to manage the capybara-turned-robot spider population.
“The prophecy says that one day, Jeremy, father of the spiders, will return to go on a great quest to save us all from this hotel's chronic lack of space by seeking out the magical axolotl.” — Kira [07:57]
Jeremy's Transformation:
Initially reluctant, Jeremy consents to the quest, leading him to the mystical donut cave where he confronts his past habits—constantly eating the rare donuts. Through this journey, he learns valuable lessons about presence and mindfulness.
“Bagels are better.” — Lee [09:42]
Resolution and Family Unity:
Embracing his new understanding, Jeremy decides to move out of the cramped hotel to provide space for his robot spider children and rekindles his relationship with Maya, highlighting the importance of family and being present.
“I love you.” — Jeremy [10:49]
Lee: “Bagels are better.” [09:42]
This succinct piece of advice serves as Jeremy's epiphany, symbolizing a shift from fleeting distractions (donuts) to meaningful sustenance (bagels).
Jeremy: “Bagels are better than donuts. You mean like how being present is better than looking at my phone? Because phones, like donuts, only offer passing fulfillment, whereas being present with a loved one is much like a bagel, a heartier meal. Is that what you meant? Magical axolotl?” [10:13]
Jeremy connects the metaphor to real-life behavior, emphasizing the value of presence over digital distractions.
Maya: “Oh, Jeremy, I'm so proud of you.” [10:17]
This affirmation underscores the episode's theme of personal growth and the strengthening of familial bonds.
"The Birth of the Bagel Geologist" weaves together humor, adventure, and meaningful life lessons. The primary themes include:
Mindfulness and Presence:
Jeremy's journey from being glued to his phone to valuing real interactions highlights the importance of being present and engaged in one's surroundings.
Responsibility and Growth:
Accepting the prophecy and taking action to resolve the capybara invasion reflects personal growth and the acceptance of responsibility.
Family and Community:
The resolution emphasizes the significance of family support and community collaboration in overcoming challenges.
Creativity and Collaboration:
The episode showcases the power of collective creativity, bringing together diverse ideas from children worldwide to create an engaging narrative.
This bonus episode of Story Pirates not only entertains with its imaginative story and lively performances but also imparts valuable lessons on mindfulness, responsibility, and the importance of familial bonds. By involving children in the storytelling process, the podcast fosters creativity and highlights the unique perspectives that young minds contribute to enriching narratives.
Listeners are encouraged to participate in future Creator Club sessions, continuing the tradition of collaborative storytelling that the Story Pirates Podcast champions.
