Hey there. Welcome to the Story Pirates Podcast. We have a very exciting bonus episode for you today. Coming up right after a few words for the grown ups. Hey, Story Pirates podcast listeners. Lee here. Today we have for you a very special bonus episode called Dungeon Kid. We made it with an incredible kid named Cal who just so happens to be a. A dungeon master. Wait, what? What's a dungeon master? Who is this Dungeon Kid? Does this have anything to do with D and D? What's D and D? Okay, okay, I know that's a lot of questions, and luckily for all of us, they're all answered by the Dungeon Kid himself. Take a listen to this short interview I did with Cal and then we'll get started. Kal, I'm so excited about Dungeon Kid.
Cal
Yeah, it's been really fun so far.
Lee Overtree
Before we start and hear this adventure, can you tell us what is dd?
Cal
DD is a game where one person is the Dungeon master who creates this really big and fun world, and the other people are the players who adventure in the world and explore it.
Lee Overtree
It's like making up a group story together.
Cal
Yeah.
Lee Overtree
And what does D and D stand for?
Cal
It stands for Dungeons and Dragons.
Lee Overtree
And do you have to have a dungeon and a dragon in your game?
Cal
You don't.
Lee Overtree
Are the characters the kinds of people you would meet in real life?
Cal
They're mostly like magic characters. Some of them are just warriors.
Lee Overtree
It sounds like there's a lot of adventure and a lot of magic and even some battling in these D and D games. Can they be funny?
Cal
Yeah, all the time.
Lee Overtree
How do you make a game like this funny?
Cal
As the Dungeon Master, you could put them in funny scenarios.
Lee Overtree
In this game that we're going to hear today, you're the Dungeon Master with a bunch of grownups as the players, right?
Cal
Yeah.
Lee Overtree
And the characters that are in this story, who made them up?
Cal
The players get to make up their own characters. But I created everything else. I created all the bad guys, the good guys, and the monsters that they meet on their quest.
Lee Overtree
Amazing. Where does it take place?
Cal
It takes place in another world. Like a magical world.
Lee Overtree
Who made up that magical world?
Cal
I did.
Lee Overtree
Do you have a favorite part of the world that you created?
Cal
There's a forest called Forest of Special, Large danger, and a forest of absolutely no danger.
Lee Overtree
And are they as advertised? Do they indeed have that level of danger in each forest?
Cal
Surprisingly, yes.
Lee Overtree
That sounds amazing. I cannot wait. And neither can the listeners. So without further ado, I think we should just dive into the game. So take it away, Dungeon Kid. Are you ready for A quest like you've never seen. Will you end up in a pick or meet a fairy queen? Perhaps you'll fight a monster or a giant squid. The only one who knows is a dungeon kid.
Cal
Yeah, the dungeon kid. The world I created is called Realmland. An ancient island that existed since the dawn of time. It is very magical and is filled with magical creatures. Adventurers come from all over the world to try and find the many magical items on the island. The most magical of them all is the Gem of Infinite Power. Or Gipsy. For sure. Bad guys want the gem for evil and good guys want it for good guy stuff. But no one has ever found it. We start this adventure at sea. There is a small ship manned by three heroes who are seeking out the gip. First we have Moggsvi the Druid.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Ah, what a fine day to be an adventurer out on the open waves.
Cal
He's a little furry forest wizard that can transform into any animal in the world.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
It's time for my daily animal transformation exercises. Here I go. I'm a weasel. Now I'm a black crowned Central American squirrel monkey. And now I'm a hairy screaming armadillo. Which, yes, is a real animal. When it feels threatened, it screams.
Izzy Roland
Is that true.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Amabeline? I didn't see you there.
Cal
Next is an 8 foot tall Goliath bard. Goliaths are half human, half giant.
Oscar Montoya
And.
Cal
And bards are heroes that use music for magic.
Lee Overtree
Thank you.
Izzy Roland
Yes. While I may be only half giant, I am full star muscles and breathtaking talent. Yes, please.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Even when I'm not a screaming armadillo. Your presence is powerful.
Cal
And the last member of the party is a barbarian named. Grr.
Alec Brown
Is everything all right up here? I heard screaming and got concerned.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Oh, grr. I'm okay. But it's good of you to check. Not many barbarians would.
Alec Brown
I know. Barbarians are known for their rage, but most haven't been through anger management like me.
Cal
And now that you three brave adventurers are assembled, it's time for your journey to truly begin.
Izzy Roland
How exciting.
Cal
Just at that moment. Grr. You see an island. It's Realm Land.
Alec Brown
Look out at the horizon.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
It's Realm Land, where we are sure to find the Gem of Infinite Power.
Alec Brown
Or GIP for short.
Izzy Roland
Oh, how dramatic. To be or not to be. That is a line from a famous play.
Alec Brown
Friends, we're pulling up to Realmland. It's time to get serious.
Izzy Roland
Come on, fellas. Let's go get that Gip so we can fulfill our mission, which is to do good guy stuff. Here we Are at the dock.
Alec Brown
Let's jump off the ship.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Do you think the boat will be okay here without us?
Cal
Suddenly, a giant kraken rises from the sea and snatches the boat.
Alec Brown
Oh, I've been looking for a pirate ship bed for my son. I'll take this.
Cal
It pulls your boat under the sea.
Alec Brown
Thank you.
Cal
And he's gone.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Well, at least it's going to a kid.
Alec Brown
Normally, I'd get very mad about that stuff, But I've been through anger management recently.
Izzy Roland
And we are so proud of you.
Alec Brown
Where should we go now?
Cal
There's a small sign that says Blob Town. As you approach it, you see a colorful sight. The buildings are made of different flavors of jelly. Strawberry jelly, lime jelly, grape jelly. They all wobble in the breeze. The villagers are blobs of various sizes and shapes. One blob comes up to you and screams at the top of its lungs. Another blob waves you down. This one has a blob mustache.
Izzy Roland
Hello.
Langston Darby
Travelers don't mind slimy. She's scared of everything.
Izzy Roland
Ah.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Sorry. I just remembered being scared three seconds ago.
Izzy Roland
Ah. So I did it again.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Sorry. Sorry. Oh, no.
Peter McNerney
I'm stuck in a loop.
Izzy Roland
Sorry.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Whoa.
Izzy Roland
I think I'm okay.
Cal
Sorry.
Langston Darby
Welcome to Pwob Town. My name's Sludgy, and I'm the smartest blob for miles around.
Izzy Roland
Wonderful to meet you, Sludgy.
Cal
Suddenly, a shoe flops all by itself. It has eyes and a mouth. It looks up to you and says hello.
Lee Overtree
Oh, my gosh.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
That shoe just talked.
Izzy Roland
And now I remember.
Lee Overtree
You talked.
Cal
Hmm.
Izzy Roland
That little blob really is afraid of everything.
Langston Darby
Well, in this case, he might be justified. Things have gotten strange around here. Random objects have been coming to life.
Alec Brown
What other things have come alive?
Cal
Just then, a chip bag walks by. He's singing a song.
Izzy Roland
I'm just a chip bag Chip, chip, chipping along. Excuse me, little talking chip bag. But do you know why inanimate objects are suddenly coming to life? I'm not sure. All I remember is a man wearing goggles and a party hat. Bye.
Lee Overtree
Crunch, crunch, crunch, Crunch, Crunch, crunch, crunch.
Langston Darby
You guys sure picked a busy day to visit Blob Town. Oh, look who's coming now.
Izzy Roland
Looks like another blob is coming over. And this one has a fancy hat and an even fancier mustache.
Oscar Montoya
Pardon me. Scuse me. Pardon me. Mayor coming through. Mayor coming through.
Cal
Hello.
Oscar Montoya
I'm the mayor.
Langston Darby
Mr. Mayor, these adventurers are looking for the gipsy.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
How did you know that, smart blob?
Langston Darby
Well, because I'm A smart blob.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Oh, right.
Oscar Montoya
Adventurers, you say? Just what we need. Oh, you have to help us. We need to find out who's turning all these objects to life.
Izzy Roland
Well, a very musical chip bag just said something about a man in goggles and a party hat.
Oscar Montoya
Why, that's Professor Fish. He lives down the road in a mansion, and he doesn't take too kindly to strangers. If he's behind this, please do something about it quickly. And if you do, as a reward, I will give you this handy dandy map to Realmland. It will help you on your quest for the gip.
Lee Overtree
Wow. What a guy.
Alec Brown
Who said that?
Lee Overtree
It's me, Blob. Mayor. Your hat. I'm alive. I'm gonna go see Professor Fish too. Here I go.
Alec Brown
Follow that hat.
Cal
And so you follow the hat down the road, and a large shadow comes over you. A large green dragon lands on the ground before you. His name is Steve.
Lee Overtree
Ah, a dragon.
Alec Brown
Hello, tiny beings. I am Steve. You'll sure look yummy, but lucky for you, I just ate another adventurer. He sure did. Quiet you. Sorry. Seeing as I am no longer hungry, you are safe for now. So, yeah, that's about it. Byeeee.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Honestly, as far as encounters with dragons go, that went about as well as it possibly could. Let's move.
Izzy Roland
We'll be right back.
Peter McNerney

Cal
After a short walk, you approach Professor Fish's mansion.
Izzy Roland
Wow. That's a big house for a fish. Is he a fish, or is his name just Fish?
Cal
He's just a guy named Fish.
Izzy Roland
Huh? Let's knock on the door. Ow.
Alec Brown
Did that door just say ow? Hello, I'm a door.
Izzy Roland
Hello, door. I'm a star. We're here to see Professor Fish.
Lee Overtree
I should warn you, he's gone wild, and he's using his Come Alive potion to make everything come alive.
Alec Brown
We need to find out why he's doing that. Can we come inside and see him?
Lee Overtree
He's in his laboratory. But that room's locked, so you'll have to figure out how to get in there on your own.
Brennan Lee Mulligan
It's always something.
Lee Overtree
Welcome to the mansion.
Izzy Roland
Wow, look at this place. Fancy schmancy. We got a guest room on the left, a bathroom over there, and look at this cute little tea room.
Alec Brown
Oh, I'd love some tea. Mogsby, don't wander off by yourself. Uh, what are you doing down there?
Brennan Lee Mulligan
Hey, guys. I found the kitchen, and you should probably come here.
Cal
As you all enter the kitchen, you feel many pairs of eyes turn to you. A refrigerator looks at you. A massive stove opens its mouth and fire shoots out of it. Many forks, plates, and knives stand up and turn to you.
Izzy Roland
Something tells me that this living kitchen is not so friendly.
Cal
And then a spork with a military captain hat and a mustache screams, silverware attack.
Lee Overtree
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Cal, pause just for one second.
Cal
What is it, Lee?
Lee Overtree
You're telling me the entire kitchen attacked them?
Cal
Yeah.
Lee Overtree
This game is incredible. You could really do whatever you want.
Cal
Just wait for the boss.
Lee Overtree
Oh, my goodness. I cannot wait.
Cal
Well, you're going to have to, because we're out of time. But I guess this episode is going to be a cliffhanger. Which is funny, because the mansion is on a cliff.
