“Don’t put your confidence in powerful people.” Psalm 146 doesn’t whisper that line, it insists on it, and we take it seriously. We start with praise, then trace what happens to a heart and a nation when hope gets misplaced into leaders, celebrities, and the next big plan that dies the moment a person breathes their last. If you’ve felt anxious, angry, or numb from the news cycle, this is a return to steady ground: God keeps His promises, lifts the weighed down, and reigns forever.

From there, we read Acts 18 through 19 and sit with a model of correction that’s rare today. Apollos is gifted and sincere, but he needs fuller truth, so faithful believers take him aside and explain “more accurately.” That becomes our reminder to always go back to Scripture first and foremost. Explanations and commentaries can help, but they cannot replace the text, contradict it, or invent what isn’t there. We also hear Proverbs 18 call out a habit that ruins conversations fast: caring more about airing our opinions than gaining understanding.

We then wrestle with how people use the Old Testament in debates like illegal immigration, and why biblical compassion can’t be separated from surrender to the Lord. We honor Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sergeant Alvin P. Carey, and we challenge the way entertainment and sports can turn into false gods that crowd out gratitude, memory, and discernment. Finally, we talk civics, the American founding, and why the Founders warn against democracy as mob rule while arguing for a republic anchored in virtue.
