I start my fast and my whole plan was if I don't hear from you, I'm just gonna go get a job. I got a finance degree and I'm just going to. I'm gonna go work. 24 hours go by, I hear nothing. 48 hours go by, nothing. 72 hours go by, nothing. Well, God, I am about to go work. I get a honey crisp apple that was sitting on my counter. I pick up the apple and the moment I'm about to bite into it.

I've had friends go through medical scares, and it seems the difficult part is dealing with the medical bills. It made their situation more stressful. They felt like a number, not a person. And it was all about the cost, not their care. That's why I was so encouraged after my conversation with Andy Schoonover of crowd Health. They focus on people, not just costs. Like many of us, Andy was frustrated with the rising costs and confusing bills. So he created CrowdHealth, a crowdfunding membership that helps families take control of their healthcare spending with real support along the way. Instead of paying high monthly premiums, you pay a simple membership. When a medical need comes up, the community helps to fund your bills and even works to lower costs. It's a more transparent, supportive approach without the stress. Go to joincrowdhealth.com and use the code. Candice. Crowd health is not insurance. It's a better approach to healthcare that puts people and community first. You know me, I'm someone who takes my faith seriously. But I also think that faith has to show up in real, practical ways. Otherwise, what are we doing right now? There are people in Israel who genuinely need help. Elderly men and women, Holocaust survivors, families facing real hardship. And the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews is on the ground every single day, making sure that help reaches them. What drew me to this organization is how tangible it is. You give and people actually receive food, medicine, and care. There's something really beautiful about that connection. I also believe that when we give, we're doing something bigger than just meeting a physical need. We're aligning ourselves with God's heart. And for me, that's what faith in action really looks like. So if this is speaking to you, don't wait. Come stand with me. Visit ifcj.orgcandace to learn more and get involved. That's ifcj.orgcandace. Life is like a roller coaster, but is better when we go through it together. Welcome to the Candace Cameron Bury Podcast. This show is not about me. It's for you. And this season, I get to bring you a series with with Jason Jackson Jr. Who makes social media content specifically to help people understand the Bible in new ways. Come join us. Hey, Jason.
B
Hey, how you doing?
A
Welcome back.
B
Yes. Thank you for having me.
A
We were just talking about being whether we were introverts or extroverts.
B
Yes.
A
And I had said I'm kind of in between. Like, I mean, my personality is extroverted. However, I'm a true introvert when I need to recharge. Like, I need to get away from people and charge up because. But what are you?
B
The same exact thing.
A
Oh, you are.
B
Same exact. I'm a contractual extrovert. I mean, my job and stuff requires me to be an extrovert. And most people see me, like, in public or something, and they think that I'm going to be the exact same as when I'm excited about finding something on social media. And I'm like, I'm not shy like you mentioned, but I am. I'm a little more reserved to myself, you know, so, yeah, I would align with that perfectly.
A
Yeah. And you need to be away from people to charge up, to go have enough energy to go do the next thing.
B
Right. Right. Even if it's like 10 minutes, 15 minutes, that's perfect for me.
A
I know that's the same. I know every once in a while I'll come across someone that recognizes me out in public. And I typically am a very happy, positive person. But every once in a while, you get caught when you're just having a bad day or you're in a bad mood. And then it's the worst because they walk away and then they'll go tweet something or they go on social media and they're like, I met her and she wasn't very nice. And I was like, oh, I didn't mean to be mean. I was having a bad day. I was, like, yelling at my kids or, I don't know, my husband and I were arguing about something, or I just, like, I was so tired. And you can't always win.
B
Right.
A
You know, but it's you. I never want to not be who I truly am around people. I'm always my most authentic self. Sometimes people just catch me on a bad day and I feel bad about it after.
B
Yeah, same. Same happen.
A
Well, I. I want to start with another listener question this week. This one is from Courtney, and she writes, I was best friends with a girl from church for several years, and when we split up, I started leading a new Bible study group. She. And she somehow stopped being my friend. I was the one to plan get togethers and initiate texts, and we used to text every day. When I stopped, I realized she had stopped. I had breakfast with her and asked if I had done something wrong, and she blew me off and said that she'd been having a hard year. I told her that I could have helped her through those tough times and asked why she'd never shared with me so I could pray for her. After that, she pulled away completely and started new friendships. I'm learning to forgive, but how can I still continue to be in the same church and see her and not feel hurt? I miss her and what we had in our friendship. I'm just so confused and hurt. I need advice. Friendships are hard.
B
They are in losing one that you really love is even harder. I always go back to the story of Jesus and Judas. You know, before Jesus was betrayed by Judas, he was washing his feet. And what I think about is there was no amount of foot washing that Jesus could have done that would have made Judas not be who Judas was, just in general, you know? So you can't really put the blame on yourself when someone kind of decides to show you who they are. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I know when we say when people show you who they are as if, like, they're a terrible person, but it's just, they have showed you that or they've shown you that the person that they are is not someone that you can coexist with at this particular time, you know? So I would also say when you have friendships that end, sometimes we like to play the role as the Savior. And it's like, but I could have helped you. I could have done this. And you got to sit back and ask the question and ask God, is this something that you want me to intervene on, or is this something that you want me to just wait and watch you work in? So we always want to have that help in hand because that's naturally who we are, especially if you really walking in the faith. But the truth is, there are more members of the body of the body than just you. And sometimes you have fulfilled your part of the assignment and it's somebody else's turn to take the reins.
A
Yeah, I'LL say this a similar thing in that I do believe that friendship, I do believe that friendships can have seasons. And sometimes it's not by our choice, but it's by their choice. And I don't know if they are doing some pruning of what, what relationships are fruitful in their lives. It's a good thing for us to do as well. And look at those relationships and you, you prune out the ones that aren't necessarily beneficial or might be even steering you in a wrong direction. But it's always sad and feels very hurtful to lose a friend, especially sometimes when you feel like you have more of a friendship with them.
B
Yeah.
A
And realize, oh, I wasn't as good of a, I wasn't considered as good of a friend in their eyes as they were to me.
B
Right.
A
And, and it hurts. And listen, I've, I've gone through this in my own life. I've seen it in my kids lives. I think as a mom, it, it hurts me so badly when I'm like, why don't you talk to that person anymore? And then you kind of hear if there was beef or, or it was like, no, they just walked away or you know, words were exchanged and there was, there's kind of no coming back from it. And it, it's sad, but it, it is. That's life, you know, and sometimes you pick up, you can, you can pick up old friendships, but a lot of times God is just pruning people from your life and you had their season. Remember it with joy and for the good things and, and then just be on the lookout for new friends.
B
Right.
A
All you can really do.
B
Well, I hope that, hope that helped.
A
I know. I think that was a great answer, but it's hard. Courtney, we know. Okay, so Jason, tell me, is there anything that you had to wait for before God showed up? Because today we're going to be talking about the weight of waiting. And so I would love for you to just start talking about what you had to wait for before you saw God.
B
Yeah, we can. Now, we have reflected in retrospect about stories and stuff in the past, but very recent, I would say. It's probably the, one of the stories that I remember the Most is in 2025, January of 2025, I was about to quit social media. Like I was about to be done with it. And this is not like it's because I'm not getting views or likes or I was getting millions and millions of views and anytime I would post something, anytime photos, millions of views Videos, millions of views. But I was in a situation, kind of like what we talked about earlier, where I couldn't even afford to feed myself.
A
So there was no monetary gain. You weren't getting paid for social media and that was really kind of your job at the time.
B
Yeah, it was.
A
You were putting all your energy and focus into it.
B
Exactly. I didn't work a 9 to 5 job. When God gave me the green light to go in and share my message with the world, I was like, okay, and I'm trusting you to take care of me while I'm doing this. Most people are like, that's a bad decision. But I'm like, I just knew what I heard from God. So last year I am going through. I got eviction notices on the door. My leasing office is constantly knocking, hey, when are you going to pay? When are you going to get us our money? When are you going to pay? On top of that, I had like a, a Motel 6 refrigerator. And if you know what that is, that means we'll leave the light on for you. I had nothing in there but the light. And I was like, oh my gosh, God, I'm doing everything you are asking me to do. And I'm looking out and this is where that comparison can come in. I'm like, I see people who are not living for you. They're proclaiming the name of Christ and they're living completely different than what Jesus did. And they are getting these six figure brand deals and all these opportunities. I'm not asking for that. I'm literally just asking, can you please help me feed myself and pay my rent? That's it. I don't want anything else. And so I'm like, you know what, God, I'm going to go on a three day fast. How about that? I'm going on a three day fast and I'm fasting from food and water. I know how important food and water is to my body. You know how important it is to me. I'm telling you that I'm not eating or drinking anything else until I hear from you. Now that's bold.
A
That is bold. I was going to say, how about the food part? But maybe you need some water to stay alive.
B
I know. Yeah. Saying that to God too is like, wow, you got, you got some nerve. But so I start my fast and 24 hours in, I hear nothing. I'm like, okay. And my whole plan was, if I don't hear from you, and really it was if I don't hear from you in a way that I want to hear from you. I'm just going to go get a job. I got a finance degree, and I'm just going to. I'm going to go work. 24 hours go by, I hear nothing. 48 hours go by, nothing. 72 hours go by, nothing. I'm like, all right, I've made up my mind. I know what I need to do. Well, God, I am about to go work, and, you know, this was fun while it lasted. I get a honeycrisp apple that was sitting on my counter, and this is the 72nd hour. I actually went back and looked at the email two days ago. I pick up the apple, and the moment I'm about to bite into it, I get an email, and it's from the team that represents me now that, hey, Jason, we are talent representation. We would love to set up a call with you. And I'm like, wow.
A
Whoa.
B
That was the first time I had ever fasted, and it was for my own personal benefit. And God showed up, and the message was, now you see?
A
Wow, that is incredible.
B
Yeah. And it was just. It was simply, what are you willing to give up? Like, what are you willing to give up? And are you willing to give up?
A
Yeah.
B
And God was like, I'm not gonna go back on my word. I told you I was gonna take care of you. Yeah, I got you. And so that was. I had to wait. I waited and I waited and I waited. In a moment where I was about to throw in a towel, God was like, not yet. I still got something else for you to do.
A
Was fasting your first thought to do? Like, what is the quickest way to get the attention of God? Yeah, it was.
B
It was. It was because I heard a pastor say one time, it previously wouldn't have been, but when I heard this sermon, the pastor said, fasting is like an urgent prayer. He said, jesus tells us to pray, but he says there are some things that you won't get unless you pray and fast. And I'm like, this has to be one of those things, because I've been praying and praying and praying. I've heard nothing. So I said, it must be that I need to fast. And that's what it was.
A
Were there any distractions in that moment while you were fasting and praying?
B
Yes. Yes. And the main distraction for me was I just didn't feel like I didn't see myself the way that God saw me. You know, I just saw myself as someone who was on. On the Internet, just creating videos and putting them out there, because the whole views and followers thing, even today, still does not make sense in my head. So if you see 1 million views, to me, it doesn't register that 1 million people saw this. Or so I always joke. I say it jokingly, but I'm kind of serious. I say, I feel like God really blessed me with this platform because he knew none of this would make sense to me. And I'm someone who just is trying to share the word, you know? So, yeah, but it was really how I saw myself. And what I've learned is that how you see yourself determines if and when you get out of that wilderness season that we. That we speak about, that desert season where everything feels dry. Because I think back to the children of Israel, and there were a lot of them that wanted to go back to bondage. They wanted to go back to slavery with Pharaoh. And God really ministered to me when I was studying that. And he said the only reason why they wanted to go back to Pharaoh was because they saw themselves as nothing more than slaves. And I was like, wow. He was like, in the same breath. When people are dealing with toxic relationships and unhealthy situations, the only reason why a person would want to return to a toxic relationship is if they see themselves as someone that's unfit for a healthy one. So how you see yourself determines where you are and where you end up in life. That's what I. That's what I learned about this.
A
So how did you now see yourself as.
B
God sees you as an important piece of the body. Like, previously, it was like, not that this isn't important, but I was like, okay, I know I'm a part of the body of Christ, but I'm probably just like an eyelash or something, you know, like, you know, it'll fall off every now and then, and people will forget that it was there. But God was like, no, I need you, because you are helping people in a way that I'm not. Other people aren't helping them. And it's not that you're better than them. You're just different from them. So use the gift that I gave you and be different. You know, do what I've called you to do. Don't just try to go and make money, because if money was the mission, you should have never started in the first place.
A
Got it? And so this revelation, along with the. This came after the fasting, along with that email.
B
Yes, yes. And I was. Because, like I said, life is lived forward, but it's only understood backwards. That's how I see it.
A
Wow. What gets you back on track when you're feeling impatient?
B
I would say identifying my location, you know? Cause when I'm impatient, I'm thinking about where I could be. You know, I'm not in the place that I want to be yet. And it's. I just always have to remind myself, like, j. Where you are does not define who you are. And even going back to the story of the children of Israel, they were in Egypt for over 400 years, but they weren't Egyptian, you know? So just because you're in this situation does not mean that you have to be of this situation. Like Jesus said, we are in the world, but we're not of the world. So your current situation is not your final conclusion. There's life to be lived. After what you're going through right now, this is just. This is just a page in a story. And if you stay there too long, you'll believe that this is the end of the story. Yeah.
A
But what keeps you motivated to say, like, I'm not going to give up. I'm going to keep waiting, even though it feels heavy.
B
Yeah.
A
And I don't want to wait anymore.
B
I would say is it's God's word, because I know that I will die before God has ever proved to be a liar. So when I'm thinking about, well, it's not looking like, that's powerful.
A
Wait, say that again.
B
That's the truth. I will die before it's ever proved that God is a liar. Any word in scripture, anything that's ever written, anything that he has spoke to you before, it doesn't come to pass, you will leave this earth. It's going to happen. You know, So I always say that that's kind of a. When I'm going through seasons that are destiny contradictions. And a destiny contradiction is when what the Lord said about you in scripture contradicts what you're currently living through right now. You just haven't gotten to the chapter where it's all fulfilled yet. So that's what keeps me going, is I'm like, the mindset of, this is going to be the story that I one day tell. I'm going to tell this story. I'm going to talk about this particular part where I almost gave up. But it's going to keep me going because I know it.
A
I mean, a really simple analogy that I think about is when I'm working out or I'm on a hike or a run or a jog, whatever you want to call it, and I'm beat And I want to keep going. And maybe this is a new path for me, a path I haven't been on yet. So I don't really know when it's going to end. And I just have to keep reminding myself. I'm like, the end is going to come around that corner. I can't see it yet. I'm not sure where, but it's going to come.
B
It's like you said, it might.
A
It might be in five minutes, it might be in 15 minutes. I'm not really sure, but it's going to come to an end. And you. I think you just have to keep telling. Just reminding yourself. It's like renewing your mind with the spirit, the word of God, and just saying it is going to come.
B
Right? And you said it. This too shall pass. That's what everything in life, you know, whether you're in a high, you're in a low, this too shall pass. And when you're in those moments where you're battling on if you're gonna fail or succeed, I always. Now I'm a. I think you can kind of relate to this too. I'm a fortitude person. Like, let's just work at it until we get it done. And I always tell myself, jay, you either succeed or you give up before you do. Those are the only two outcomes in this situation. Now, some things that just. That's not in God's will for you. So no matter how hard you try, it just won't happen. But in most situations, people give up before they get to the thing that they have really, really been praying for. And it's like that analogy of digging for gold, and you're right there, and then you walk away with an inch left and you would have had it. So I'm like, I never want to be that guy. I'm going to give it everything I got. And I don't want to regret later if I could have gave it a little more. No, let's just try as hard as we can.
A
I feel the same way. I do think that some of us have that spirit that's built in us. Think some people don't have that as much, and they really have to convince themselves and need motivation and encouragement from the outside. That's again, why I think community is so important, because that community will rally you and encourage you and say, come on, you can take another. Another step. Don't keep digging, don't keep fighting. Don't stop praying.
B
It's important.
A
Yeah, it's so important, and we need it. But, yeah, I don't ever want to give up because like I. I've just seen God work too many times in the lives of other people and in my own life to say, no, man, I'm not giving up. Because I know there's a rainbow. There's a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. I know it. I know it.
B
Yeah.
A

Check out full offer details and current apy@bank316.com C CCB We've talked a lot on this show about having a healthy relationship with our bodies and let me remind you, God doesn't love us anymore or any less because of the number on the scale. Yet weight loss can be a very valid goal and sometimes it feels a whole lot harder than it should. I know how it goes. You're making better choices, you're trying to eat healthier, you're staying active. And yet the scale barely moves and that can be incredibly discouraging. That's something PhD weight loss really understands because for many people, the issue isn't willpower at all. It's what's happening under the surface. At PhD weight loss, the focus isn't just on eating less or moving more. It's about helping your body work with you again. Their approach looks at metabolism, mindset and habits together, not in isolation. Many traditional diets solely focus on calorie counting and restriction, which can actually make weight loss much harder over time. PhD starts by helping people become metabolically flexible, training the body to use fat for fuel instead of constantly relying on sugar for energy. When that happens, energy levels stabilize, cravings quiet down, and weight loss stops feeling like a daily battle. Their meal plans are intentionally designed to support that process. They're rooted in whole, nutrient dense foods, similar to an ancestral or paleo style approach, while also using familiar, thoughtfully formulated meal replacements early on to ease the transition. That way, clients aren't shocked into change overnight. Instead, they're guided step by step towards sustainable habits their body can actually maintain. And just as importantly, PhD does not ignore the mental and emotional side of weight loss. That component has been instrumental in my health journey. They help clients understand their patterns, triggers and relationship with food. So progress isn't driven by guilt or restriction, but by clarity and confidence. Call 864-644-1900 to book your consultation. It's free and it's personalized. For your specific goals, call 864-644-1900 or visit my PhD weight loss.com and make sure that you tell them Candice sent you. Well, is there anything that you are still waiting on that you think maybe God's holding out on? Maybe he wants to change something or maybe, I don't know, you're just praying for and you're waiting.
B
I would say there aren't things now that I'm like, I want to get to this place or I want to have this tangible item is more of becoming versions of myself. And God is like, I want that version of yourself for you as well. But before you get there, this version of you has to die. And the process of getting there is being held up by me. So it's not necessarily God waiting on me or it's not me waiting on God, it's God waiting on me. It's like, okay Jason, I know where
A
you want to go, your perspective. I just it kill. It kills me in the best of ways. I just love how you see the world and I hate to Keep bringing your age up, but I have kids your age, so I'm just amazed that you see that in your life so young and so clearly. And, man, that is going to serve you well for so many years of your life. Well, thank you, and God bless you. God. God bless that. He gave that to you. He gave that perspective to you.
B
Thank you. I appreciate that. I really do appreciate that. I think it comes from, you know, we talked about a little bit about my upbringing and the role models that I had around me, and they weren't people that you would tell your child to look up to. But as I got older, retrospect, I looked at those people and I was like, God used them as a blessing in my life. Most people will see that and be like, man, this was bad. But sometimes God is just putting people in your life to show you what not to be like. And it's up to you to have that discernment, to know where you need to put someone, you know? So that's how I start to look at things as, this isn't bad. This is just an opportunity for me to see life differently, you know?
A
Yeah. So tell me to follow up on that story. You got that email. Yeah, just like, kind of. We know where you're at right now, but tell me a little bit about what happened after that.
B
Right. Oh, it was like my Life did a 180. I mean, I remember telling my agency, like, they said, or do you have any goals that you would like to accomplish by bringing us alongside you? And I was like, you know, yeah, I would like to. I literally mapped out how much I needed to make rent and have, like, a meal a day. And I was like, I think it would be cool if I could. If I could make, like, like $3,000 a month, I think that would be, like, really cool. And they were like, okay, yeah. But the message is that when you are together, you can go so much further, so much faster. I could have decided, no, I want to do this all on my own and keep 100% of everything. But why would you have. Why would you want to keep 100% of a grape when you could have 10% of a watermelon? You know? And so I was like, wow. I did not realize how much I needed not just community and people that could help me and pour into the visions and things that I have, but just help as a human, and they were willing to help me. So it changed my life. It changed my life, to say the least. Yeah.
A
That's incredible. Praise God. Well, we are Going to move on to our listener question for today. This one is from Lily and she says, hi, I am an 18 year old girl who struggles with perfectionism and performance.
B
Huh?
A
I'm like, hi, welcome to my life. Okay, so Lily says, I can identify some of the lies the enemy is telling me, but how do I practically fight those lies in my day to day life?
B
Great question.
A
Perfectionism and performance.
B
I would say you have to, you have to really identify who the enemy is. Okay. And what we know about him, his personality and his character and all of those things. So if Jesus said that he is the father of lies and that there is no truth in him, that must mean that anything that he ever says about you, the opposite is true. So if he says that you are God does not love you and you are never going to find someone that loves you. Everything that he says must, the opposite must be true. So sometimes what I've noticed is the enemy can see more in us than we can see in ourselves because he sees us for who God created us to be. And we see ourselves a lot of times for who the world has told us that we are. So you have to go back and say, okay, well, who are you? Who are you to say these things about me? I mean, I know how the book ends, so if I were you, I would try to discourage me as well. So you can get me to go to where you going? But I got a savior named Jesus who can help me get out of anything. And by the way, you will be defeated. So that's how I always just kind of encourage myself. It's like, who is he? Who is he to say anything about me?
A
That is great advice. I would add that Bible tells us there is, there's no one perfect, not one. I can go back to the core of the gospel message where God gives us a standard of his goodness and he gives us the law to show us that standard. And there is not one of us that can attain that standard.
B
Right?
A
Because it is perfection. Only Jesus attained perfection. We cannot, we will not ever. And so when you struggle with perfectionism, I remind myself, and I'm going to remind you, Lily, that God is the only perfect person in the world. And he does not require perfection from any of us. And just the opposite. He requires to just come as you are and he will sanctify you. He will change you, he will mold you and shape you in the process. But it's never to be perfect. It's to look more like Him.
B
Right?
A
And so I encourage you to remind yourself that Perfectionism is never a goal. And remind yourself that you will never attain it. And that's okay. We are not meant to attain it. And you know, performance, I. I am very much an achiever by nature. I love achieving. I love setting goals. I love getting to them. I'm very future forward thinking. What can I do? When can I do? If I perform well, will people like me more? And again, it's, you know, that might be slightly personality driven, but that's not who we are. You are the daughter of God, and He loves you. He created you. He made you unique and special to who you are. He gave you gifts and talents and embedded the type of personality that you have. However, he doesn't call us to just stay the same in a whole life. He again wants to mold us into someone that looks more and more like him. And so remember that perfection and performance is never the end goal. Yeah, and. But I relate to how you feel and just be. You do everything to the best of your ability, work hard, all of that. But God's love is not dependent on how you perform or what you look like or how perfect you do everything. He loves you because, Lily, he loves you.
B
That's it.
A
He loves you because you are you, and he made you. So let that be your reminder today. Okay? One other question. This one's from Katherine, and she asks, do you have a good group of friends that keep you accountable and honest? And how do you find a group like that?
B
I do.
A
Do you?
B
I do. I do. I have a great. Now, I don't have a big group of friends in that space, but they are there. And my mentor, I refer to him as a friend. He's. He's more than a. Than a friend to me. He's almost like a. Like a spiritual father. But my teammates from college, Kendall Givens is one of them. He was the running back on my football team and phenomenal athlete. But as a man will call me and just have like, accountability sessions where he even tells me, man, I stumbled in this way. And I just wanted to let you know because you are my accountability partner. And I don't want to keep this from you, and it'll keep me from being accountable. So the way that I found my people was. It was just a blessing, honestly. God kind of just placed it in my lap and me being on a college campus, but if I weren't on that college campus and I was looking for that community, I think the number one place that I would go to is a church. Small group. People underestimate the value of small groups and I know you can if you're an introvert, you know, it can be kind of like a scary place to go to. But there's so much value of just having a small group of people that you can bounce thoughts off of back and forth. So that's what I would say.
A
That is great advice. I. Let me see. Think about what I would add. It's really important to have at least one friend that can help keep you honest and accountable. I don't know that I have a specific group of friends for that reason. I mean being married for 30 years, I think my husband is my biggest accountability partner. But I do have some girlfriends in my life that we can talk about certain things and I can get a different and fresh perspective on it and keep me accountable to find that group. I think what you said is great advice. I'm also going to recommend the Together Community app. That's the app that I've. I've created along with my team and it is online, it's social media so it also doesn't. You can be anywhere in the world and it's a place where you can meet some like minded people and it's a safe place. We don't let mean people or trolls or anyone on there. And it's. It's women that are genuinely seeking to know Christ better and that might be a good resource for you. So maybe check out candice.com together or just go to your apps and type in Together Community. Yeah. So there we go. Well we are going to be back next week and next week we're going to be talking about pride. Something we all need to talk about and keep at bay.
