All right, today we're going to dive into Matthew chapter 25 beginning in verse 14. This is known as the parable of the talents. Part of what you need to know is that a talent, it really has a couple of meanings. It was a measure of money. In the first century it was equal to about a million dollars. Today it was about a 20 years wage of an average common worker. And I want to point out again in the context what Jesus is talking about is essentially this, don't waste your life. And so he says this in verse 14. For it will be like a man going on a long journey. And the it there is the return of Christ. For it will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. This is so important, his property. I need you to know that everything you have is a blood bought grace gift from Jesus. You did not earn it that it was given to you. And one of the common mistakes that men make is we think that we are self made men. Well, I started this company and I made this money and I would say you fool, everything you have was given by God. You did not get to choose your intellect, you did not get to choose your country of origin, you did not get to choose your educational opportunities. You may have worked hard and made the most of those things, but everything, everything that you have in your entire life is his. And everything that has been given to you, one day the way you use it will either bring regret or reward. So first and foremost we must understand that we are owners of nothing. We are stewards of what God has given to us. He goes on to say to one, he gave five talents. Again that's about $5 million to another two and to another one each according to his ability. Now if you're super young you're beginning to say, well that's not very fair. Well pay very close attention to this. Fairness is not a biblical value. God is the sovereign king of the universe and he does what he wants, with who he wants, when he wants. And some of you have lots of money, some of you have a little bit of money, some of you have not very much money. And God is the one often that decides what he is going to trust us with. One of the Questions that I'll ask people when they talk to me about their financial problems is this. If you were God, would you give you more money based on what you have done with what God has given you? Are you conducting the money that ultimately belongs to him in a way that brings him glory and honor? It goes on to say, he who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. Pay very close attention. That delayed obedience is disobedience. So many times people have been given an assignment by God, and you delay and delay and delay. What this brother does is he goes at once, and he does with it what he thinks will bring his master the most glory. So also he who had two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. Now, after a long time, the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. I need you to know this, that it may not seem like it's imminent or it's right around the corner, but every single one of us one day will stand before our Lord, our Maker, our Master, the giver of all good things, the one that has blessed you with your job, your mind, your family, your opportunity. And you and I will have to settle accounts with our master. And all of a sudden, in that moment, how much you have in your savings account will not matter as much as it does right now. All of a sudden, in that moment, that new truck won't matter as much as you think it matters right now. And everything that we have been given will either bring reward because we leveraged it for his glory and our joy, or it will bring regret because we began to worship the temporary things instead of the giver of those things. The one thing I want you to wrestle with this day is that do you see all of the things that you have been given as yours or his? And if you see them as yours, I pray that you would pray and that you would repent and you would realize that you are but a steward or a manager of everything that you have for a time, and it has been given to you for the glory of God and for your enjoyment. But if your worship begins to terminate on the temporary things, what you worship, you will put all your time, effort and energy in. And so oftentimes what happens is the things that God gives us as a good gift become objects of our worship as opposed to means by which we worship the one true God. Know this. Everything you have is his. And one day you'll settle accounts and it will either bring you regret or reward.

Podcast Summary: The Daily Blade #10 - "Stewardship Over Ownership" with Joby Martin & Kyle Thompson
Introduction to the Parable of the Talents
In Episode #10 of The Daily Blade, released on January 14, 2025, hosts Pastor Joby Martin of the Church of Eleven22 and Kyle Thompson of Undaunted.Life delve deep into Matthew 25:14-30, exploring the profound lessons within the Parable of the Talents. This episode, titled "Stewardship Over Ownership," aims to equip Christians with practical insights on applying God's Word to their daily lives, particularly focusing on the concepts of stewardship and ownership.
Understanding "Talent" in Biblical Context
Joby Martin begins by elucidating the term "talent" as used in the parable. He explains that a talent was a significant measure of money in the first century, roughly equivalent to a million dollars today or about a 20-year wage for an average worker. This contextualizes the gravity of what the master entrusts to his servants.
“[00:19] Joby Martin: Everything you have is a blood bought grace gift from Jesus. You did not earn it; it was given to you.”
He emphasizes that the parable is not merely about financial acumen but about not wasting the life and gifts God has bestowed upon individuals.
Stewardship vs. Ownership
A central theme of the episode is the distinction between ownership and stewardship. Joby asserts that believers are not owners of their possessions but stewards entrusted with God's resources.
“[00:19] Joby Martin: Everything, everything that you have in your entire life is his. And everything that has been given to you, one day the way you use it will either bring regret or reward.”
He challenges listeners to recognize that attributes like intellect, opportunities, and possessions are not self-earned but grace-given. This perspective shifts the focus from self-centered ownership to God-centered stewardship.
God’s Sovereignty and the Distribution of Talents
Addressing the initial disparity in the distribution of talents among the servants, Joby tackles the notion of fairness from a biblical standpoint.
“[02:30] Joby Martin: Fairness is not a biblical value. God is the sovereign king of the universe and he does what he wants, with who he wants, when he wants.”
He clarifies that God's distribution of talents is based on His sovereign will, not human standards of fairness. This underscores the importance of trust and obedience in God's plan, regardless of personal circumstances.
Immediate Obedience: A Mark of Faithfulness
Joby highlights the commendable actions of the first two servants who immediately invested and doubled their talents. He contrasts this with the third servant's inaction, which ultimately led to negative consequences.
“[03:00] Joby Martin: That delayed obedience is disobedience.”
This point serves as a caution against procrastination in responding to God's call. Joby urges listeners to act promptly and faithfully with the resources and opportunities God provides.
Accountability Before God
A significant portion of the discussion revolves around the inevitable accountability each individual will face before God. Joby paints a vivid picture of the day when believers will present their stewardship records.
“[05:00] Joby Martin: Everything you have is his. And one day you'll settle accounts and it will either bring you regret or reward.”
He emphasizes that material wealth will pale in comparison to how one has managed God's gifts. This accountability is a motivator for living a life that prioritizes God's glory over personal gain.
Repentance and Realignment of Priorities
Towards the end of the episode, Joby calls for introspection and repentance. He challenges listeners to evaluate whether they view their possessions as their own or as tools entrusted by God.
“[05:00] Joby Martin: Everything you have is his. And one day you'll settle accounts and it will either bring you regret or reward.”
He warns against allowing temporary possessions to become idols that detract from worshiping the true God. Instead, believers are encouraged to use their resources in ways that honor and glorify God.
Conclusion and Call to Action
Wrapping up the episode, Pastor Joby Martin reinforces the key takeaway: believers are stewards of God's resources, not owners. He urges men to manage their gifts wisely, ensuring that their actions lead to either eternal reward or regret.
“[05:26] Joby Martin: Everything you have is his. And one day you'll settle accounts and it will either bring you regret or reward.”
Listeners are encouraged to share the podcast, leave five-star ratings, and continue equipping themselves and others for the spiritual battles ahead.
