Grace changes your mind. Grace has the ability to change your mind. Take, for example, the story of James, the half brother of of Jesus. So watch this. Number one, Grace breaks through doubt. Grace breaks through doubt. There's this scene in John chapter seven where his own family, his own brothers, did not believe in him. Can you imagine how hard it must have been for your own family not to believe that you were the Messiah? John 7:5 says this, for even his own brothers did not believe in him. Remember this. Grace is patient with your disbelief. James grew up with Jesus, but he couldn't see him for who he was. Often familiarity can blind us to the divine. But grace doesn't cancel doubters, it keeps pursuing them. Number two, grace meets you in resurrection power in 1 Corinthians 15:7, after Jesus rose from the dead, defeating the dark powers, crucifying sin and death, and in victory. First Corinthians 15:7 says this. Then he appeared to James. Can you imagine that moment when your half brother, who did not believe in you, who saw you flogged and whipped, who saw you crucified on a cross, sees you raised from the dead? You see, grace shows up when your mind is ready to change. Jesus didn't scold James. He appeared to him after the resurrection. One encounter with the risen Jesus changes everything. Grace doesn't say, I told you so. Grace says, I'm here. Number three, Grace rewires your identity. James one one says this, James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace makes you a servant, not a skeptic. James went from mocking Jesus to leading the church in Jerusalem. He didn't call himself Jesus, brother. He called himself servant. When grace changes your mind, it changes your name and your mission. As history tells us from extra biblical sources, James was on top of the temple and religious leaders were persecuting him, saying, jesus is not the Messiah. Denounce your faith. And he wouldn't. And so he was pushed off the Temple Mount, fell to the ground, and still was not dead. And so he was actually clubbed to death in that moment. Man, how do you go from denying Jesus to being pushed off the temple and clubbed to death for the one you denied? What happens is grace. Jesus didn't give up on James and he won't give up on you. Grace is not just a second chance, it's a whole new start. When grace changes your mind, it transforms your heart and unleashes a new purpose. This is Pastor Derwin Gray. Marinate on that.

Guest: Pastor Derwin Gray
In Episode #161 of The Daily Blade, hosts Pastor Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson delve into the transformative power of grace with insights from Pastor Derwin Gray. The episode, titled "Grace Changes Your Mind and Rewires Your Identity," explores how grace influences believers' minds, validates their faith, and reshapes their identities in profound ways.
Pastor Derwin Gray begins by emphasizing that grace has the ability to change your mind. He uses the biblical story of James, the half-brother of Jesus, as a central example:
Grace and Doubt: Gray references John 7:5 to highlight that even Jesus' own family doubted Him:
"For even his own brothers did not believe in him." (00:45)
He explains that James grew up with Jesus but struggled to recognize Him as the Messiah. This familiarity sometimes blinds individuals to the divine nature of those close to them. However, Gray assures that grace is patient with disbelief, persisting in its pursuit rather than dismissing doubters.
Grace’s Persistence: Gray underscores that grace doesn't abandon those who doubt but continues to seek them out, demonstrating patience and unwavering love. This persistent grace is crucial for transforming skepticism into faith.
Gray transitions to the theme of resurrection power as another facet of grace:
Resurrection and Victory: Drawing from 1 Corinthians 15:7, Gray recounts how after Jesus' resurrection, He appeared to James, altering the latter’s perception entirely:
"Then he appeared to James." (02:50)
This pivotal moment showcases grace in action, where witnessing the risen Christ dispels doubt and cements faith.
Transformative Encounter: Gray highlights that such a profound encounter with the risen Jesus doesn't come with condemnation but with an invitation:
"Grace shows up when your mind is ready to change. Jesus didn't scold James. He appeared to him after the resurrection." (03:15)
This encounter signifies that grace initiates change without judgment, offering a fresh start.
The discussion deepens as Gray explores how grace fundamentally rewires an individual’s identity:
From Skeptic to Servant: Citing James 1:1, Gray points out that grace transforms identity:
"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ." (04:10)
James transitioned from someone who mocked Jesus to a devoted leader of the Jerusalem church. This shift illustrates how grace doesn't just forgive but redefines one's role and purpose.
Historical Transformation: Gray references historical accounts of James’ steadfast faith despite persecution:
"James was on top of the temple and religious leaders were persecuting him, saying, he Jesus is not the Messiah. Denounce your faith. And he wouldn't." (05:00)
Even after being pushed off the Temple Mount and clubbed to death, James maintained his faith, underscoring the enduring impact of grace on one's identity.
Grace as a New Start: Gray emphasizes that grace offers more than a second chance—it provides a whole new start by transforming hearts and missions:
"When grace changes your mind, it transforms your heart and unleashes a new purpose." (06:30)
This comprehensive transformation highlights the depth of grace in shaping believers' lives for a higher calling.
Pastor Derwin Gray concludes by encouraging listeners to marinate on the concept of grace and its profound ability to change minds and rewire identities. He reinforces the message that:
Gray's insights provide a compelling narrative on how grace operates both personally and historically to foster deep, lasting faith transformations.
