Grace. How sweet the sound of grace. One of my hopes and one of my passions, not only as a pastor but as a disciple of Jesus, is that grace would not simply be an abstract theological word in the dusty caverns of our minds, but that grace would be King Jesus himself. For John 1:14 says, and we beheld him full of grace and truth. Yes, it's true that grace is indeed the unearned, the unmerited, the unworked for gift of God. Grace is a person and his name is Jesus. Grace is God's righteousness at Christ's expense. Grace is God and Christ being for us what we could never be exposed. Grace is not simply God saying, hey, I forgive you. Oh, it's so much more. Not only does he throw our sins into the sea of God's forgotten memory, he takes our sins away. But then grace gives us something to Grace says you are holy and blameless. Holy means sacred, that you're set apart, that the blood of Christ, that you are owned by him, that you belong to him. You are sacred, you are holy, you are his beloved. Grace says that not only you're holy and blameless, not only are you as beloved, but that you are as righteous as Jesus, that that's your position in Christ. And grace says that as you trust me by the faith that brought you to my heart, that same faith will grow you to reflect my heart. Grace says you are my bride and I cherish you. Grace says you are my temple and I indwell you. Grace says you are my body and I empower you. Grace says I love you and I will never not love you. On August 2, 1997, I had my grace awakening after five years in a national football league where my whole life was defined on how fast are you? How tall are you? How big are you? How strong are you? How well did you play? How good did you do your job? It was utterly exhausting. I was striving and the more I accomplished, the more I saw that my accomplishments could never end. Ever meet my deepest need. My deepest need was love. Your deepest need was love. And so often we project onto God what we believe he's like. We think he's like people who say I love you. If I love you, if I love you if you can. I love you if you do. Our God is not a transactional God. He's a transformational God. He's a God who says, I have loved you before time ever began, and my love for you is not predicated upon what you do or don't do. I am love. I am grace. And when he lived a sinless life for us, it's grace. When he died on the cross in our place, it's grace. When he rose from the dead to be seated at the right hand of the Father and to send the Holy Spirit, it's grace. It's God's righteousness at Christ's expense, It's God doing for us and being for us what we could never do. You see, Jesus gave His life for us, to give his life to us, to live his life through us. That's grace. And friend, you are a trophy of grace. Live in grace. This is Pastor Derwin Gray. Marinate on that.

Guest Speaker: Pastor Derwin Gray
Podcast: The Daily Blade
In Episode #162 of The Daily Blade, hosts Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson welcome listeners to a deep exploration of grace, a foundational concept in Christian theology. The episode features a powerful message from Pastor Derwin Gray, titled Grace Awakening, aimed at transforming listeners' understanding and experience of grace in their daily lives.
Pastor Derwin Gray begins by emphasizing the personification of grace. He challenges the notion of grace as merely an abstract theological term, urging believers to recognize grace as King Jesus Himself. Gray references John 1:14 to illustrate this point:
“Grace is King Jesus himself. For John 1:14 says, and we beheld him full of grace and truth.”
(00:20)
He elaborates that grace encompasses several profound aspects:
Gray shares a personal testimony of his "grace awakening" on August 2, 1997. After five exhausting years in the National Football League, where his identity and worth were tied to physical attributes and performance, Gray realized that achievements alone could never fulfill his deepest need: love.
“My deepest need was love. Your deepest need was love.”
(02:15)
This moment of clarity led him to understand that true fulfillment comes from embracing God's grace, which offers unfailing love regardless of one's actions or accomplishments.
Delving deeper, Gray articulates several key attributes of God's grace:
Holy and Sacred: Grace declares believers as holy and set apart, belonging entirely to Jesus.
“Grace says you are holy and blameless. Holy means sacred, that you're set apart...”
(01:10)
Righteous in Christ: Believers are viewed as righteous, sharing in Christ's righteousness through faith.
“Grace says that as you trust me by the faith that brought you to my heart, that same faith will grow you to reflect my heart.”
(02:45)
Intimate Relationship: Grace emphasizes a close, personal relationship between God and believers, portraying believers as God's bride, temple, and body.
“Grace says you are my bride and I cherish you. Grace says you are my temple and I indwell you.”
(03:20)
Unconditional Love: God's love is unwavering and not contingent upon human performance.
“Grace says I love you and I will never not love you.”
(03:40)
Gray underscores that God's grace is transformational, fundamentally changing believers from within. This transformation is ongoing, as faith in grace leads individuals to reflect God's heart and embody His love and righteousness in their lives.
“He’s a transformational God. He’s a God who says, I have loved you before time ever began...”
(02:30)
Gray contrasts this divine grace with the transactional love often experienced in human relationships, emphasizing that God's grace offers permanent and complete love without prerequisites.
In his concluding remarks, Pastor Derwin Gray encourages listeners to embrace and live in grace, recognizing themselves as trophies of grace—cherished, empowered, and beloved by God.
“Jesus gave His life for us, to give his life to us, to live his life through us. That's grace. And friend, you are a trophy of grace. Live in grace.”
(04:00)
Gray's message serves as a compelling invitation to internalize grace, allowing it to redefine self-worth, identity, and purpose beyond worldly standards and achievements.
“Grace is King Jesus himself. For John 1:14 says, and we beheld him full of grace and truth.”
