All right, guys, over the next two weeks, we're going over the 10 elements of a godly man. And this is as we see in scripture. So so far we've talked about a godly man has surrendered his life to Christ and a godly man is self selfless. Today we're talking about element three. And element three of a godly man is a godly man strives for holiness. Now, as men, we strive for a lot of stuff, right? We strive for more money. We want, you know, career and business success. We want prestige, we want notoriety, we want fame. How about this? We want higher one rep maxes, right? We want more jiu jitsu trophies. We want faster miles. We want a. The best spring break bod, right? We want back to back fantasy football championships. And we want to level up in some, you know, random video game. I mean, we, we strive for stuff, right? Well, what about holiness? I mean, I'll just say for a lot of people and even for me at times, it's kind of an afterthought, right? We don't really focus on holiness. But my job today is to bring that idea, the idea of striving for holiness to the front of your brain. And I'm going to use the apostle Peter to help me do that. Now, I love me some Peter. And here's the reason why I love me some Peter. Because he's kind of dumb, right? And I'm kind of dumb. Like Peter is long on words, but not long on thinking. And you can see this throughout his ministry. So I'm like, hey, if there's hope for Peter and if he can be there, rock on. Which Jesus was going to build his church, maybe he could do something with a dumbard like me. But here's the thing about Peter. Peter is going to be calling us to be holy, okay? It's not going to be a polite suggestion. So let's go to the words of Peter in 1st Peter 1, verses 1320. Therefore, preparing your minds for action and being sober minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance. But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy. In all your conduct, since it is written, you shall be holy. For I am holy. And if you can call on him as Father, who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the feudal ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was for known before the foundation of the world, but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you, who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory so that your faith and hope are in God. So we need to do a little bit of a quick word study here, because some people think they know what holy means, but they don't really know what it means. So the word holy, I guess the easiest way to think about it is to be set apart. Okay? So here's where everything is in all the muck and mire and darkness and sinfulness, and we're going to be set apart. We're going to be separated from that. And also it can mean consecrated. So consecrated is just a fancy word for a declared devotion to God, like a public declaration. Okay, but here's our main problem. We will declare with our mouths a devotion to God, but our actions are the opposite of holy, right? In. In from most people, as opposed to fixing our actions, we just make excuses for them. Oh, well, this is how I'm wired. Or this is how things were meant to be. Or, hey, you know, it's just genetic predisposition. And, hey, this is just how we act in my family and different things like that. We just like to make excuses as to why we're not upholding a certain standard in our lives. But here's the thing. Recently we have a program out on Daunted Life called Dominion. This is like a personal coaching program that I do. And so we've got a wait list. So if you guys want to go to our website, you can sign up for it, all the stuff, right? But during the interviews for people that I was looking to bring into my program, I kept hearing the same thing. I would hear guys say, man, I really struggle. I really struggle with being in shape. I really struggle with getting over porn and masturbation. I really struggle with this. I really struggle with that. And then finally, after a few, you know, rough interviews in a row, I kind of just snapped at a guy. Nicely, nicely snapped at a guy. You Know Paul to Peter's face kind of snapping. And I was like, dude, if you had been struggling to be in shape, you would actually be in shape now. Because you know what it takes to be in shape Struggling. Because being in shape is not easy. Waking up early and going to your garage gym, or driving to the gym or hitting the pavement or something like that, that's not easy. But if you were striving for being in shape, if you were actually struggling, you would have arrived by now. Again, let's go back to verse 15. But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all of your conduct. You know what that takes? Striving. I mean, it, it takes struggle. But you have to do that if you want to cover all those areas that God is telling us that we need to cover. But here's the thing. I don't want you guys hearing what I'm not saying, which is that our works can somehow save us, right? Our works can't save us. I don't need to do a deep theological dive and prove that to you guys. But good works, right? And a holiness being set apart is evidence of us puoing in Jesus's payment of our sin debt. Guys, if you follow Joby for any length of time or listen to his sermons, which if not you should. One of the best preachers in America on any given weekend. But he talked about this word pshtuo, which means you're transferring your faith into something, right? I can look at a chair and have faith that that's a chair. But until I transfer my weight and my trust onto that chair to uphold me, I've not put my faith in that chair. If you pshtuo in Jesus and the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, you are transferring your faith into that reality. But guys, it's going to be really, really hard to do that if we're not striving for holiness. Again, element one, you got to be a Christian to even be dealing with any of this type of stuff. But day in and day out in our daily lives, we have to strive for holiness. And that is element three of a godly man. A godly man strives for holiness. Come back tomorrow. We'll talk more.

Element Three: Striving for Holiness
Kyle Thompson introduces the focus of the episode by highlighting the various areas men typically strive for, such as career success, physical achievements, and personal accolades. He contrasts these with the often-overlooked pursuit of holiness, emphasizing its paramount importance for a godly man.
"What about holiness? I mean, I'll just say for a lot of people and even for me at times, it's kind of an afterthought, right? We don't really focus on holiness."
[Kyle Thompson, 02:15]
Understanding Holiness
Kyle breaks down the concept of holiness, drawing from 1 Peter 1:15-20 to elucidate its true meaning. He explains that to be holy means to be "set apart" and "consecrated" for God, highlighting that holiness is not merely a verbal declaration but a lifestyle marked by separated and devoted actions.
"The word holy... the easiest way to think about it is to be set apart. Okay? So here's where everything is in all the muck and mire and darkness and sinfulness, and we're going to be set apart."
[Kyle Thompson, 03:45]
He further distinguishes between superficial declarations of faith and genuine holy conduct, criticizing the tendency to excuse unholy actions rather than striving to align one's life with God's standards.
"We will declare with our mouths a devotion to God, but our actions are the opposite of holy... we just make excuses for them."
[Kyle Thompson, 04:30]
Personal Reflection and Coaching Insights
Kyle shares personal anecdotes from his Dominion coaching program, underscoring the challenges men face in pursuing holiness. He recounts instances where potential participants expressed struggles in areas like physical fitness and overcoming temptations, only to remain stagnant due to a lack of genuine effort.
"If you were striving for being in shape, if you were actually struggling, you would have arrived by now."
[Kyle Thompson, 05:10]
This reflection serves to illustrate the critical link between striving and achieving holiness, reinforcing that genuine effort is essential for spiritual growth.
Biblical Foundation: 1 Peter 1:15-20
The episode deepens its theological foundation by unpacking 1 Peter 1:15-20, where Peter calls believers to live holy lives, mirroring the holiness of God Himself.
"But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all of your conduct."
[Kyle Thompson, 04:00]
Kyle emphasizes that striving for holiness involves continuous effort and perseverance, aligning one's actions with God's calling despite inherent struggles.
Faith and Good Works
Kyle clarifies a common misconception about salvation and good works, stating that while works cannot save, they serve as evidence of faith. He references Joby Martin's teachings on "pshtuo," the Greek word for faith, to illustrate the necessity of transferring trust into action.
"If you pshtuo in Jesus and the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, you are transferring your faith into that reality."
[Kyle Thompson, 05:50]
This theological insight reinforces the idea that striving for holiness is a natural outflow of a genuine faith in Jesus Christ.
Conclusion and Call to Action
Wrapping up the episode, Kyle reiterates that striving for holiness is the third element of being a godly man. He encourages listeners to prioritize holiness amidst their daily pursuits and challenges them to put forth the necessary effort to live a life set apart for God.
"Day in and day out in our daily lives, we have to strive for holiness. And that is element three of a godly man."
