All right, guys, over the last couple of weeks, we've been Talking about the 10 elements of a godly man as we see in scripture. So element one is a godly man has surrendered his life to Christ. Element two, a godly man is selfless. Element three, a godly man strives for holiness. Element four, a godly man is repentant. Element five, a godly man loves his wife as Christ loved the church. And element six, a godly man is sexually pure. Today we're going to be talking about element seven of a godly man, and that's a godly man protects his mind. And now, for most of us as guys, we are just natural protectors. It's just kind of this innate thing inside of us that we want to protect people. A lot of times we don't even decide, but when someone's being taken advantage of or someone weaker than us is being bullied or something like that, we naturally want to kind of get into the fray. And guys, over the years, we've kind of seen guys really buy into this whole sheepdog mindset that was introduced to Us by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman and that we've seen in some, you know, modern novels and different, you know, books and movies and things like that, because there are wolves in this world that want to take out the sheep. And we need a sheepdog to protect the flock. And so we've got guys that are, you know, they're concealed, carrying weapons, and they're training with them, right? And they're learning how to fight. They're doing real martial arts like jiu jitsu and wrestling and western boxing and muay Thai and kickboxing and those types of things. And, dude, I am pro all of those things because I'm one of those weird, maladjusted guys that you might be able to call me because I pray that today's the day, that today is the day that I get to do justified violence to somebody. I am going to be the one that sees somebody, like, trying to steal a woman's purse or somebody that's trying to kidnap a kid. And then I get to do something and not get in trouble for it, right? I get to take someone down, double leg them, dump them on their head, pass their Guard, mount them and just rain down elbows on their stupid criminal face. I get it. A lot of you guys have that in you, okay? But how much time and effort do we spend protecting our minds, preparing ourselves to protect what's going on between our ears? I mean, I've got news for you guys. Protecting your mind is way harder than protecting yourself or someone else against, you know, an aggressive drunk guy at a bar. But it's way, way, way more valuable. Okay? So for me, I'm just going to kind of get personal here. I've talked about this a lot on my own personal Undaunted Life podcast, but I used to, you know, over 15 years ago, 16 years ago now, I used to have a porn and masturbation problem, which, again, most people in modernity are like, oh, I have a porn problem. It's like, no, you have a masturbation problem. Because I don't really know. Guys are just sitting around watching porn and not doing anything about it. It's a masturbation problem that's being disguised as a porn problem. But for me, you know, I finally got to a point where I was just deciding that, okay, I'm over. I'm gonna get over it. You know, I got some books and I got in some. Some groups that were, you know, trying to help and different things like that, but it just wasn't really clicking right. You know, I was still having problems, but what changed everything for me? I don't know why exactly this particular scripture did it, but I memorized one scripture that changed my whole life. 2 Corinthians 10:5. Okay, so I memorized it originally in the NIV and I would highly recommend that y'all do the same. So here's 2 Corinthians 10:5. In the new international version, we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. So let's break that down. We demolish arguments and every pretension. A pretension is just like a statement. So we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. So this is pretty simple, actually. If it goes against scripture, the word of God, then it's not of God. It's pretty simple. There are a lot of arguments and statements publicly that go exactly in contravention to what God would tell us to do. So what are we to do to those arguments and statements? Do we push them away? No. Do we just try and avoid them? No, we demolish them. We Demolish those arguments, we demolish those statements. That's one of the reasons why I'm so big on Christian apologetics and studying philosophy and things like that. Because a lot of you guys are flat footed when somebody gives you any type of negative feedback to something that you're trying to say, God is trying to tell you to do. Okay, let's go to the second half of the scripture. And we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. So just think about this. Imagine trying to take a person captive, okay? Imagine what that would entail. Imagine what you would have to do to take someone captive. And now imagine that you've got the person in captivity. You, you've gotten them, but now you need to make them obedient to do something. I mean, I, I think of this in like a be, you know, a Brazilian jiu jitsu example, right? So it's like, I've taken you down, I've subdued you. Now it's like, okay, you're gonn. I say, because if you don't, I'm going to choke you out or I'm going to break your arm or I'm snap your leg or something like that, right? So we can kind of get the idea. But it's how we use 2nd Corinthians 10:5. We use it to demolish arguments and we use it to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. So back to the pornography masturbation example. After I memorize the scripture, there would be those times you're at home alone or you're bored or whatever. And that would be normally the time that you would look at porn and masturbate. You know what I would do? I would say 2nd Corinthians 10:5 over and over and over until the sensation to throw my hand in my pants went away, right? That's how I would use it. And guess what? I know guys that struggle so much with certain things, certain sinful behaviors that you may not. You may need to memorize 2nd Corinthians 10:5 and a bunch of different versions. You got it in the nasv, NASB and the esv, and the King James, the new King James and the niv. Maybe you need to memorize in like Spanish or Yiddish or Russian or something like that to where you're literally taxing your brain so that you can, can take the negative sinful thought and bring it to Christ. You were literally grabbing that thought out of the ether as if it's tangible, as if you could hold it in your hand and you're taking it to the foot of the cross. Guys, this is serious. I'm all for controlling our outside behaviors, the behaviors that happen outside of us. But man, the war of our minds is a war that we need to wage and there just aren't enough guys waging it. And 2nd Corinthians 10:5 certainly helps. Element seven of a godly Man A godly man protects his mind. Come back here tomorrow for Element eight.

The Daily Blade: Joby Martin & Kyle Thompson
Episode #65 - Kyle Thompson // A Godly Man Protects His Mind
Release Date: April 1, 2025
In Episode #65 of The Daily Blade, hosts Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson delve into the seventh element of a godly man: a godly man protects his mind. This episode continues their in-depth series on the "10 Elements of a Godly Man," providing listeners with biblical insights and practical applications to cultivate a Christ-centered life.
Kyle starts by briefly recapping the first six elements of a godly man as outlined in scripture:
This foundation sets the stage for exploring the importance of mental stewardship in a believer's life.
Kyle emphasizes that men possess an innate desire to protect others:
Kyle Thompson [00:45]: “For most of us as guys, we are just natural protectors. It's just kind of this innate thing inside of us that we want to protect people.”
He elaborates on how this protective instinct often manifests without conscious decision-making, driving men to intervene when someone is being mistreated or vulnerable.
Expanding on the protector role, Kyle references Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's concept of the "sheepdog mindset," popularized in modern literature and media. He discusses how many men adopt this mentality by:
Concealed Carry and Weapon Training:
Men train to carry and use weapons responsibly to defend others.
Martial Arts Practice:
Engaging in disciplines like jiu-jitsu, wrestling, boxing, muay Thai, and kickboxing to be physically prepared for confrontations.
Kyle Thompson [02:00]: “Guys that are training with weapons, learning how to fight, doing real martial arts like jiu jitsu and wrestling... I'm pro all of those things because... I pray that today is the day that I get to do justified violence to somebody.”
He acknowledges the noble intent behind this training but shifts focus to the often-overlooked battle within the mind.
Kyle posits that protecting one's mind is more challenging yet infinitely more valuable than physical protection:
Kyle Thompson [03:30]: “Protecting your mind is way harder than protecting yourself or someone else against, you know, an aggressive drunk guy at a bar. But it's way, way, way more valuable.”
He stresses the necessity of guarding one's thoughts to maintain spiritual integrity and resist the subtle assaults of sin.
Opening up about his personal journey, Kyle shares his struggle with pornography and masturbation, reframing it as a masturbation problem disguised as a porn problem. He candidly discusses his years of battling these temptations and the ineffective methods he initially employed.
Kyle Thompson [04:15]: “I used to have a porn and masturbation problem... I got some books and I got in some groups that were trying to help, but it just wasn't really clicking right.”
The pivotal moment in Kyle's transformation was memorizing 2 Corinthians 10:5:
Kyle Thompson [04:45]: “I memorized one scripture that changed my whole life. 2 Corinthians 10:5.”
He cites the New International Version (NIV) translation:
Kyle Thompson [05:00]: “In the NIV, 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, 'We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.'”
Kyle meticulously breaks down the verse, highlighting its application in mental warfare:
Demolishing Arguments and Pretensions
Taking Every Thought Captive
Kyle Thompson [05:40]: “We demolish those arguments, we demolish those statements. That's one of the reasons why I'm so big on Christian apologetics and studying philosophy...”
Kyle advocates for memorizing scripture as a strategic defense against sinful thoughts:
Kyle Thompson [06:10]: “I would say 2nd Corinthians 10:5 over and over and over until the sensation to throw my hand in my pants went away.”
He recommends memorizing the verse in multiple translations and even different languages to reinforce its impact:
Kyle Thompson [06:20]: “Maybe you need to memorize it in the NASV, NASB, ESV, King James, or even in another language...”
Kyle concludes by underscoring the critical importance of mental vigilance:
Kyle Thompson [06:25]: “The war of our minds is a war that we need to wage and there just aren't enough guys waging it. And 2nd Corinthians 10:5 certainly helps.”
He reiterates that true spiritual protection begins within, urging men to prioritize their mental and spiritual disciplines.
Episode #65 of The Daily Blade masterfully intertwines biblical teachings with personal testimony, offering a compelling argument for the necessity of protecting one's mind as a cornerstone of godly manhood. By leveraging scripture like 2 Corinthians 10:5, men are equipped to guard their thoughts and, by extension, their lives, against the pervasive threats of modern society.
