Welcome back to day two of this week on the Daily Blade. As we are studying John 2, the miracle of water to wine in Cana, we're repeating some verses just for context. Chapter two, verse one says, on the third day, there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, they have no wine. And Jesus said to her, woman, what does this have to do with me? Now, men do not memorize and quote that verse out of context. Like when your wife is like, hey, you need to pick kids up from school. And you're like, woman, what does this have to do with me? That's not what that means. But he says, woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come. Now, here's what Jesus is saying. Jesus was very focused on his mission, and he had a very focused mission. His mission was to come to this planet, to live a perfect life, to fulfill every promise and prophecy about him in the Old Testament, so that through the shed blood of the perfect lamb on the cross, that Jesus could seek and save the lost. That the reason that Jesus came was to die for our sin. And the timing of Jesus coming was not haphazard. In fact, the book of revelation, chapter 8 lets us know that the lamb was slain before the foundation of the earth. So it's not like God created everything good and then the devil made it bad. And God said, oh, no, what am I going to do to make it good again? And so he had sent Jesus. That's not how it works. That from before the foundation of time, the plan was that the Son of God would show up on the planet and be the sacrificial lamb for the atonement of all sin here on the earth, Jesus must be crucified at the Passover time because he is the Passover lamb that is shed for the forgiveness of our sin. And Jesus also knows that the moment he does his first miracle, it's almost like the timer has started and the countdown to the crucifixion is on. And so when Jesus says, my hour has not yet come, it's because he had a very, very specific hour to do the things that God the Father had sent him to do. In fact, Romans chapter 5, verse 6 says it this way. For while we were still weak at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. Galatians also says that Jesus came at just the right time. And so what makes this the right time? Well, what was going on in the world? There's a lot that helped the good news of the Gospel spread all over the world. I don't know if you've ever wondered about why Jesus came when he came. Why didn't God sent his only begotten son now when he could do a YouTube channel or, I don't know, at the founding of America or whatever. Well, there was a lot going on in the first century that made this the perfect time for this central message to make it to the four corners of the earth. First of all, Rome ruled more real estate than any other country in the history of the world. There was a thing called Pax Romana that was going on during that day, which meant peace in Rome, which meant if you were a Roman citizen, then you could travel all over the place under the protection of Rome. This was brand new. Also, there was a worldwide web, not the Internet, but there was a system and series of roads all over the known world. The Apostle Paul is going to use Pax Romana and is going to use these roads to get the good news of the Gospel everywhere. And Jesus came at just the right time. Not just a thousand years ago, but he also shows up at just the right time in your life. And maybe now is just the right time for you. Maybe you're listening to this, but you don't know Christ. And now is just the right time for you to understand that he is who he says he is. And at the request of his mom, he does what she wants him to do. And he does a miracle and turns water into wine. And that begins the countdown clock for Jesus to begin preaching, to begin teaching, to begin showing everybody what it means to be his follower, in order that we would be reconciled to an almighty God to die on a cross at the Passover and be resurrected on the third day. And that happened at the right time. And maybe right now is the right time for you, if you don't know him, to put your faith in Him. Amen.
