Almost as, as amazing in this story is I just want to sit and talk with this guy because I mean we hit it off in a major way. Our 15 minute call went over an hour. So I mean, and so this is going to be like a cool conversation. You could listen to of a lot of facts and a lot of things, but as real as I always keep it, this one's going to go to another level. So I, I'm really excited. My guest is a board certified nutritionist, but he founded the Crohn's Colitis lifestyle to help others that are struggling with ibd and he's his backstory and everything that we're going to get into, he's had to overcome a significant amount of problems and I'm. I'm one that always loves to spotlight perseverance and overcoming, and my guest is the epitome of this. And you're going to find out really quickly why I love this guy so much. So, without further ado, thank you for coming to see me, especially given that you're about to have a baby. My friend Dane Johnson.

Thanks, Dylan. Thanks for having me, man. What an intro. And I'm. I'm just so ecstatic to be here. I want to change lives. You know, ibd chronic disease is not the end. There's so much we can do. I dedicate every moment of this energy just to serving, to supporting, to just fill our cups with possibilities and anything. I know I'm going to leave it on the table today, so thanks for having me.

I love it. You guys that are listening, you're going to find very quickly that how much that we have in common, things that we've gone through in the past, like prior models and things like that that we discussed. But just I think it's more so your desire. My desire to change lives and help people in multitudes of ways that still kind of come together as one. And that's why I like to do this, man, and work with people like you, because I haven't gotten into Crohn's or some of the things that you've gotten into. So you're my first guest. That we're kind of hitting that direct topic, and then we'll expound onto everything else you do. So, you know, you do some amazing stuff, as I pointed out, but I want to go through what you went through.

Yeah. It's actually one of the things that really fuels me. And I think a lot of us, anyone who's sick or listening is I really think we're diagnosed with a purpose.

You know, we can go to school, we can study, we can do this. But if you don't have it in your heart to really become the CEO of your health and really try to understand what's happening and just go for it. You can't get past it. You can't unveil what's possible in our lives. And that's really what happened to me. You know, I had one of the worst things that ever happened to me. Diagnosed with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis by two different doctors at two different hospitals, two different times, and it just came out of nowhere. No family had it, no past history, no experience. I was a normal kid. But at 19 years old, I'm getting Blood in the stool. I mean, I'm. I'm out playing sports. I'm doing college. I'm a kid, and I'm. I'm just going to the bathroom five times, seven times, ten times with blood in the stool. And it was one of those experiences like, what's going on, Shane? You know, just didn't know who I was. I didn't want to tell anyone. By the time I was 22, had gotten more severe. Where the doctors are going, okay, this is, you know, now ulcerative colitis with gastritis. And by the time I was 26, 27, they had said, okay, it's widespread Crohn's disease. And on my 27th birthday, I nearly passed away from complications of inflammatory bowel disease, which is not usual. Most people listening are going, what? I was one of the worst cases you could get because it just kept festering. The problems were proliferating, and the doctors were just throwing steroids, biologics, antibiotics, and talking about surgery to cut out my colon. So I would have a stoma bag, or I would just, you know, go to the bathroom in a bag at 26 years old. And so for me, I wasn't, you know, while I'm here is I wasn't against the grain of, oh, doctors are evil, or all this is bad. I didn't know why this happened to me. I want. I was willing to take medications. It just didn't work. So just to get to the point of that and why I'm so passionate about this, on my 27th birthday, I weighed 122 pounds. I'm 621-90-as- see me today. I was on a feeding tube, so I couldn't eat. I was getting. Just fed through a tube, and I was on 200 milligrams of infused prednisone. Anyone who's taken prednisone tablets. Yes. 60 milligrams tapered down. That's the normal thing I did for years. Did that for four years before I had to get the infusion. They put me on four different antibiotics. They put me on three grams of Dilaudid. I was on intiveo. I was on methotrexate. I was on also ambient for sleeping. I was hallucinating. My mom told me later on when I woke up that I was talking to supposedly my dead twin sister in the hospital. Don't remember that. Don't have a twin sister. I was. I don't recall about two or three weeks of my life. I was in that hospital for a month straight. And, you know, doctors couldn't figure out what was going on. And, you know, my dad flew in, my sisters flew in, my. My mom flew in. And they took turns kind of staying with me through the night, because I would just relieve myself into a steel bed pan about 20 times a day. Just blood, mucus, water, sometimes a little sediment, hardly ever a bowel movement. So imagine, just like every 20 minutes, you get this pain and this sense of something's not there and you release, and it's just blood and mucus and water. And so, you know, and when you're a young person, I mean, you just. You're not thinking like that. And it nearly killed me. I nearly died December of 2014, from complications of this disease. Then I started figuring out what actually happened. Now, that's when I checked myself out of the hospital, and I was already studying in natural medicine and my naturopathic professor, two professors I was working really closely with, to kind of understand the body and start learning. And that took a lot of years of pain and suffering to really figure out what had happened. And I had to go beyond a restrictive diet, which we'll talk about today. I had to go beyond fermented foods and go beyond just supplements and herbs. I had to understand the nervous system. I had to understand mitochondria, energy. I had to understand toxins, pathogens hidden that the doctors hadn't found. I had to figure out how to combine conventional medicine and natural medicine because I needed both to live. Because if people go, oh, natural medicine is everything, I said, yeah, but without conventional, I'd be dead. Thank you, doctors. You saved my life. But natural medicine gave me my life back. Freedom. That makes sense. Yeah. So I was going through something, and I didn't have leadership. I didn't have connection with anyone else who had been through this. So the people I was holding on to, latching onto, were in books. They were professors. They were doctors. People like Jordan Rubin's book or some of the people who were famous. Inflammatory bowel disease, Right? Jordan Rubin got famous for healing Crohn's AI guy, right? Yeah. And I got to meet him a few years later and show him my before and after. And then I had a call with him about doing some business together a little while ago. And it's just come so full circle because I don't think we can really find value in our lives. Just a side note, until we become a value to others. And so I really feel called to serve people who go through that pain. But reflecting on it, when I was that Sick. My mom had never experienced that, my doctor never experienced that, my girlfriend or my best friends had never experienced. So I was alone in something that no one could relate with and no one could seem to help with. So I had to go through a fire seemingly alone, with almost people watching from the stands. You know, it's like when you're that sick and you're that hurt and you're that scared, you want to hold someone's hand, you want to go through it with you. And a lot of us listening, we don't have that. And no one can do it. And as much as they we want to write a check, as much as our family wants to just hug us and wrap around and take it from us, they can. Mother's love cannot take this. And that was, that was the deepest spiritual pain I'd ever felt. It brought me to my knees. It brought me into a depression and anger or resentment with God and upsetness, obviously with my doctors because they couldn't help me. You know, most of us are just thought, when it's not your fault and something happens to you, it's someone else's responsibility to fix it. So I was just waiting on someone else to fix it because it wasn't my fault. And it just. No one could save the day. My mom, my dad, you know, I didn't know I couldn't. I felt like I was praying. I didn't know what to do with God. I didn't know what to do with the doctors at ucla, Mayo Clinic, Cedar Sign. I had seen them all and you know, they're just, there's a surgeon sitting outside the room waiting to take out my colon, probably go on disability, move back with mom, forget my life. I'd lost a few years in my twenties to this. As I said, I turned 27 in the hospital fighting for my life. So that was the why. And when I first got diagnosed, it was just a little bit, you know, left sided colitis and then just kept proliferating and getting worse and worse and worse. And that started teaching me about what some of those root cause issues were and about where the doctors were great at one thing, but they did not understand the other. For example, you know, doctors said diet didn't matter. Now I can explain that and we could spend 45 minutes on that, but I think we should save the time. That what they were really saying is that a diet won't cure an incurable disease. But they failed to really understand how beneficial specific eating of real whole foods can be to healing.

You say body I think, well, there's multiple things to unpack. I'll tell you one thing that I love that you said was the way that you structured conventional and natural medicine together. Here's part of the problem. It's a massive problem. But I love how you combined both. The utilization of both is imperative. The reliance on only one, or this demonization, or this polarization of one versus the other is out of control.

It is one side or no side type of thing for so many people. And that is. That's. It goes with everything. It's like their politics, all of it.

And it's like, brother, that's not how life works.

No. And the problem with what you were talking about with conventional is it's. They rob Peter to pay Paul, take this to offset this, to offset this, to offset this. Before you know it, they. You've got 900 side effects that you're taking, something to counter that's not even treating the exact problem. And that's. It's an issue. And that's why this. What I figured out with some of my medications for my heart, it was like, I only need one or two of these. I do need it, but I don't need all this other crap you're trying to tell me to do. There's a couple things I want to unpack. One, could you just give a. A very simple understanding to people that don't know what Crohn's disease is and maybe even what colitis is and how that is what really treated or how it's, you know, what causes it.

Yeah. Baseline understanding. We have ids, Irritable bowel syndrome, which a large percentage of people in the Western world have in Canada, us, Europe, and then we have ibd. Inflammatory bow disease. Yeah. They can be similar, but IBS is not an autoimmune disease. They're not finding chronic inflammation. They're usually not recommending lifelong medications. It usually doesn't end in surgery. Colonoscopies and endoscopies are looking normal. Blood work's looking normal. So IBS is more of a sensitive belly, where I might get diarrhea, urgency, bloating, cramping, food sensitivity, you know, along came Polly. Can't eat the spicy food. That's ibs, right? Everyone's got it now, right? Oh, that part, yeah. That's no fun. That's it. Everyone remembers that. Now we know. Now we know. It's. So IBD is that times 10. It's that. But there's chronic inflammation. You can't absorb food, you become malnourished. Highly. Usually anemic or most common. It's different for everyone. But common symptoms are blood in the stool, cramping and pain, anemia, dehydration, loss of minerals and vitamins, especially zinc or vitamin D, iron. And you can also be dealing with, you know, severe issues around gastritis or just. Yeah, cramping and pain strictures. It can transform to cause problems like fissures, fistulas, abscesses, hemorrhoids. These are where there's severe cuts inside the GI tract or a hemorrhoid that won't heal, where it's hard to sit, it's painful bleeds. People with IBD have a slightly increased chance of colorectal cancer because of chronic inflammation. So ibd, chronic inflammatory condition, that usually can involve surgeries, lifelong biologics or medications. And it's an autoimmune disease, and they can see it. And visually, they can see it in lab tests. They can see it in antibody reactions. Ibs, they don't see all that. But it has similar symptoms that kind of come and go with stress or food. Okay, so Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, two forms of ibd. The biggest difference in layman's terms is location. Crohn's disease can be mouth all the way down through the colon. Colitis tends to be the colon. Where in the colon, Then you can have things like pan colitis, ulcerative colitis, or microscopic colitis. Big fancy words for just where's the inflammation?

What's autoimmune disease?

For people that don't know, autoimmune is how the doctors are describing to us who are sick a way of just generally speaking, what's happening in our body, our immune system is attacking ourselves, quote, unquote. Okay, now the doctors have go ahead and said, okay, that's what an autoimmune disease is. Your body's attacking. And we have different forms of autoimmune where the body's reacting in different ways. We check that through inflammation or usually antibody panels. So when your body's building up a defense mechanism across some nature. Right. So it could be rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, lupus shorguns. These are all names of autoimmune conditions. Problem is, is the doctors say there is no root issue. We don't know why this happened. It's happening. And we only have certain types of medications to calm it down. That's going to be an immunosuppressant or known as biologic. So in Tivio, remicade, rinvo, a lot of us have heard of this. You see commercials all the time on tv, right? This suppresses the immune system, so it tries to shut off the immune system. It doesn't deal with root cause. Right. And you get increased chance of tuberculosis lymphoma for percentages. And you have immunomodulators kind of do that, except it's not an infusion. It's capsule methotrexate, imurin. And then you have a steroid like prednisone. We've all, most of us heard of budesonide prednisone, cortisol steroid that helps to knock out inflammation. It's temporary. You can only be on it temporarily. I was on that for about four years, on and off. And yeah, the mesalamine is the lightest. That's a 5 ASA stomach coater, anti inflammatory. What's cool about that is doctors stumbled upon mesalamine being able to reduce inflammation in the colon, specifically for ulcerative colitis, but also used for crohn's disease. And it was able to help the body metabolize a reactive oxidant species called hydrogen peroxide.

So this builds up in your colon and then they use this. It almost acts a little bit like an antioxidant. So it stop, reduces that oxidative stress, helps metabolize it. And so that's why it helps some people with colon issues really calm down. It's oral, oral medication. You can take it for lifelong. There's minimal side effects that we know of of misalamine. So that's kind of your basic understanding of medications. IBD versus ibs.

How many people do you think? And if you don't have an exact number, I, I, I have a feeling you have a good idea. How many people, whether it's worldwide or US wide, do you think are affected with ibd, IBS or Crohn's?

I think it's more than we know. So if you check on online, you look at the clinical studies, it's about 3 million to 3.4 million in the United States. Now, that's only maybe 1%.

Still a lot of people.

But, but here's what's interesting. Everyone really has to understand about this. A diagnosis is subjective. I see people diagnosed with ibs, they go through stress, they go on a round of antibiotics, they get a little something, they leave the country all of a sudden their body starts inflaming. Next thing you know, they're diagnosed with ulcerative colitis or colitis or Crohn's disease or pan colitis or proctitis. It can change. Just because a doctor says it's this doesn't mean it can't turn into that later on. If now IBS, we're thinking those numbers are 10 tenfold. At least 30 million, 40 million, maybe 60 million in the United States are dealing with some form of ibs, ibs, diarrhea or constipation. So if you're noticing some of these symptoms, listen up. Listen to your body start acting now because it can progress.

Is it like preventable? Is it like just you can mitigate it. What are the ways to go about early onset, finding it? Can it be stopped or slowed or, or cured?

So when you're trying to see if you have ibd, the best way to look is going to be a endoscopy or colonoscopy from the doctor's point of view, which has its negative side effects because you have to take these laxatives. They expand your stomach, they can irritate your gut. Many people with sensitive stomachs actually will get worse trying to prep or do a colonoscopy or endoscopy. So you have to be careful of that and just speak with a practitioner about how you go about that. The second is an IBD antibody panel. So they'll check your blood for antibodies against things like anti saccharomyces cerebeciae antibodies. So just ask your doctor for an IBD blood panel. That will give you a somewhat sense of it. You can also do a stool analysis, checking calprotectin, or if you work with functional doctors, do a gut zoomer is my favorite. Or a GI map. This is a functional stool test that checked for calprotectin, eosinopol activation proteins, lactoferrin. Big words for just signs of inflammation that could be linked with ibd. This is non invasive at home. So these are great ways to check for ibd, but you want to act sooner than later. Can it be prevented? Well, we're still trying to figure out what causes it, and a lot of people are saying, well, it's got to be hereditary, which is true. If your parents or anyone in your family has ibd, you're at a higher risk. But I think we, right now we want to get this aha moment around the understanding of what is hereditary, what is genesis? We learn from epigenetics that genes get turned on and off based on environment.

Right. So some of us, if you are being exposed to mold toxins in your house, your brother's fine, your mom's fine. Guess what? Your. Your body's freaking out. You're getting an inflammatory response. You're getting blood in the stool, and you're going, was it something I ate? No, it was something you breathed in.

Yeah.

Your body can't handle the mold. Or if you had. If you're. You went through a round of antibiotics or your microbiome get disrupted, that could affect the epigenetics or that could aff. That. That reaction. Because, remember, 70% of your immune system lives in the gut, right? So if you're. If you're drinking water out of plastic water bottles and. And heating up, you know, black plastic stuff in a microwave and eating that, that can disrupt the microbiome, activate your immune system to start reacting in that moment, especially if you and your significant other just break up. So think of it this way. It's like, what's causing this? Toxins, unchecked pathogens, weakened biochemistry. And then it's just all put into a soup, and it just needs the trigger.

I don't think people have any sort of grasp or understanding about everyday stuff that accumulates and accumulates and accumulates that you do. Like, you're talking about the plastic and the things that some people say that people are crazy that talk about that stuff, and they don't understand why there's so much disease and problems that we just don't have an answer for. Us just medication, when in reality, it's sitting right in front of our face and stuff we do every single day.

And there's clinical research to show it. That's what the doctors are missing. Yeah, there's clinical research to show that microplastics are found 50% in more. More people with IBD than people who don't have IBD. It's more prevalent in IBD. We've seen some research around that. We're seeing research around certain toxins, heavy metals. So an increase in potential mercury, lead, cadmium, we're seeing an increased potential in emulsifiers, polysorbate av, or certain gums found in our food or are linked to weakening the gut lining. Now, remember, 70% of your immune system lives right behind the gut. The gut lining. So if that gets weakened and all of a sudden these toxins start getting explode, you know, into the bloodstream, you could just. Your body can freak out like that. So again, it's a trigger. Now, looking Back at what caused me to react. I was wearing Invisalign for over a year right before I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Really? I'm not saying that caused it, but I think it was. I think it was correlated.

Just my experience, yes. Wow. Chewing on plastic day and night, swallowing it through the night, changing the trays every other day. It's also keeping all this food stuck in my mouth. And I'm eating Cheez, its Doritos, soda pops. Think about it. It's all getting stuck into my gums. And remember, your gums also are transport to the rest of your body. Yeah, I'm just asking my body to freak out. And then I was also under high amounts of stress, living under fluorescent lights, eating crappy food in my first nine to five, you know, office job. Think of all, you know, office space from the 90s. That was me. Okay. First job. When I got diagnosed, I was the guy.

Oh, so good. Just sitting there, clicking away. And. And so I think that's just one example. That toxic burden is something we should deep dive into. And everyone listening don't think it's just something that. Oh, that's the only correlation. It's always correlations. You know, it's just like sports. Like, why did I lose the game? Was it the one shot? No, it was the whole game. It was the defense, it was the offense, it was the play. It was, you know, it didn't roll your way. Sometimes the body's working the same. It's everything combined. So don't beat yourself up, but start taking things off your plate and off really, the chessboard, metaphorically, to give your body more space and to increase the chance that you're free and you're healthy and you can thrive.

I just did an interview last week, and it was with Michael Rubino, and he's like the dust guy and does the dust test. And we talked about mold, and I got such a deeper, clearer picture of how terrible that type of exposure is. And now that we're getting into this, I'd like to get a little bit deeper into more of the testing because we were kind of focusing on the mold aspect. That was kind of his thing, which is a big problem.

Yeah.

But I'd like to maybe dig down the. The rabbit hole here with you about other tests that are really problematic. You know, like, you brought up mercury, arsenic, aluminum. What are some of the things that people need to really start focusing on and looking at that are more problematic than we would ever imagine?

So the fir the best three tests I think everyone should invest in getting is going to be the stool analysis, the Gut Zoomer, that can tell us about pathogens. So in a test like this, now remember, no test is perfect. No one can find parasites perfectly, not even mold perfectly. No one's going to be able to even find heavy metals perfectly. That's why heavy metal tests come with urine, blood or hair analysis. Sometimes it's hard to find potential root issues. So look, but just take it with a grain of salt based on what the symptoms are saying, based on your past experience and based on what you, you know, what your theory is. I always tell people I work with, I'm not Sherlock Holmes. We're coming up with a theory, then we try to proof concept. So lab tests that you want to consider right off the bat, that is going to be a great investment for dollars to what you get is going to be a stool analysis like the Gut Zoomer or a GI map or some kind of quantitative PCR. Stool Test 2 is the total tox burden test. You want to look at environmental toxins in the urine, heavy metals and mycotoxins in the urine. Now, if you really think mold's an issue, I like Dr. Andrew Campbell's blood analysis to go along with the urinalysis. If I really think that's a problem. And footnote on mold, if you lived in a, you know, basement that was musty, or you lived in a house that was flooded at one time, or you grew up in a place where, you know there's been mold, or someone else has dealt with mold in the house, or it's a really old house where you think there's been leaks somewhere in the walls. Absolutely. Check on that. Because if you don't have the epigenetic ability to get rid of the mold out of your body, it's going to cause more or less sers, which is chronic inflammatory response syndrome, which is one of the root issues of many of the autoimmune diseases. It's mold toxicity. And you can check your Sears panel. So to finish that off, get the urine analysis, total tox burden, get the Gut Zoomer, consider an organic acid test that looks at more metabolics, that looks more at mitochondria function, that can tell us about some nutrient levels that can give us a little bit more understanding of candida and molts of fungi in the body.

So that looks at acid metabolites in your urine that can be indicative of root causes. So it's a great way to check for hidden problems. So now we got stool, we got two potential urines. And then you can check the potential blood for the mold if you want. But then also ask your doctor for a higher level of blood work because this should be run through insurance. And most doctors will check it if you have probable cause. Yeah. So your CBC, CMP, asked to add in the iron panel, the vitamin D25. If you think you might have IBD, ask for the IBD antibody panel. Go and check for the CRP. So C reactive protein and sed rate. Looking at that inflammation, if you think that you might have mold or Sears chronic inflammatory response syndrome or mold is driving. This is a ridicule. Check your C4A. It's a blood test that acutely looks at inflammation that's usually linked with mold. You can also check the Vegas and things like that. So, you know, don't get too lost. I think in the, in the lab work, like, attack the problem, understand what's going on, build a plan that actually works. And so that's why I tell people to go after the fives, the three fives and three different ways, the biochemistry fives, the five pathogens that we gotta go after. And really understanding, you know, how you go after those toxins, those pathogens, and support the five drainage pathways.

So everyone, this is, this is a game changer. If you look at these, okay, now what people don't understand and what my doctor missed when I was chronically sick, doctor looks at me, they look at you and they go, sorry, it's incurable. There's nothing you can do about it. You want steroids, you want biologics? We've all been through that, right? And you're going and going, wait, wait, wait, what, what about food? What about meditation? What about sleep and nervous system like this? Doc, there's gotta be something I can do. Here's the first step you make with the doctor. You talk to the doctor about these five parts of your body biochemistry part that are just not the working properly when you have gut health issues. So number one, I can almost guarantee if you've got GI issues, that you have poor digestion. That's not about whether this is curable or not. It's about. It's about your ability to break down food. So stomach acid, pancreatic function, liver function. Do I have enough bile being produced? You know, the liver is made through. Bile is made through the liver that gets dumped into duatum. That's what breaks down fats. If you can't break down fats, you can't break down Your A, D, K, E fat solubles. You can't make cholesterol, you can't make testosterone. You can't properly have a bowel movement because your body needs bile to move the fecal matter throughout the small intestine. So if I don't have proper digestion, guess what you're gonna get? She called every doctor I'd ever seen over the last four years because her son was dying in the hospital and he was out cold and she was living there day in, day out. I was there for a month. And she found one doctor in Florida who said that he did a, a stain for Cytom Cytomegalovirus and one of the 20 colonoscopies I did throughout the years because they always wanted to shove a camera at my boat. When you're sick, of course. And he said, I think this is the cytomega. You have to give him a chemotherapy. They gave me an antiviral chemotherapy and it saved my life. Within 24 hours of being on that chemotherapy. After feeding tube, antibiotics, steroids, everything, I woke up. Wow. Three days later, I checked myself out of the hospital. There's nothing doctors could do for me. And I was housebound for a year. It took me three months to be able to walk again. And what the number one reason is because of this antiviral. So again, that's conventional medicine, saved My life. Now, think about it. I had been on so many antibiotics, so many steroids, so many immunosuppressants. How do you think my body was able to handle the viral load? Being on antibiotics? Strong, the microbiome that protects you and the immunosuppressants that keeps your immune system strong. And I had to work over three months to get off the ambient, the opioids I had to get off, the antiviral, chemotherapy. I had to get off. And then I eventually got myself off. Methotrexate and tibio, all of that. But then as I started working closer in natural medicine, there were some really good things. I found some things that weren't so good. You said that there's. For every problem, there is an answer in this world. And that's because our bodies have lived here for millions of years and they are built to be able to recover. You cut your arm with a knife, you don't even have to think about it. Your body will know and feel. Fix that. So basically, doctors are our friends, but we need to get self empowered. We go off to those five biochemistries, we start looking for pathogens. Even if we don't see them in certain labs, we still start to slowly go after them. You know, things like mold. Parasites are a little bit more advanced. And if you're going to get great results, you also have to understand the drainage pathways. You've got to get the liver moving. Okay, there are five drainage pathways, more or less. You really want to know. And focus on the liver, the kidney, the lymphatic system, the ability to sweat and the ability to poop. So if you can't sweat, I'm already thinking that you're more likely to have an autoimmune reaction. Yep. Can't poop. You're more likely to have an autoimmune reaction. The liver's a little bit more conspicuous on how it works, but you'll know if you have bile issues. You can't break down fats. Well, you're constantly bloated and gassy. You can't, you have a lot of skin issues. Usually means the liver needs support. And the liver works in hand with the kidneys. Lymphatic system. If you're not moving often that's a, usually a sign that your lymphatic system is not moving. So if you're bed rested all the time, you're in a, you know, an office chair all the time, you're not moving. That's a sign that we probably need to get your lymph moving as well. But I've seen, I mean, I was working with a guy who's been sick for 30 years the other day and we started working on estranged pathways. He's had five surgeries failed like five different biologics, Crohn's disease, since he was 12 years old. He's 43 now. He's a, he's a producer and director and we got him symptom free in four months. But the main thing, just focusing on his drainage pathways because there's a difference. And this is big. Well, certain lotions that have any kind of synthetic ingredients. Remember, anything that's man made is a chemical that your body then has to release. You want to get away from that as much as possible. You're gonna find this. Yeah, you could find it in lotions. I'm gonna tell you another one is cologne. Nowadays I used to wear cologne. If I smell perfume and cologne on someone, my natural instinct is, whoa. Because that is, you know, that can just affect your cells. Those are called volunte, volatile organic compounds. Now, if you have MAST cell activation, if you have poor drainage pathways, if you are prone to a histamine reaction, things like VOCs are going to be a problem for you. Scented candles. Yeah, there's perfumes we talk about. Anything that's, you know, has a sense to it that you put on as a lotion or a face wash or even deodorants can cause that problem. So I always like to think, how did humans made a hundred years ago if we had to smell like sandalwood? Because if you smell foul by nature, the other person went, wow, there's something sick in that guy or that girl. That's not a mate. They're sick. That's how we had healthy babies. Because to smell terrible was a sign that your body was sick. I see so. So many people started doing things that made them sick. Too much alcohol, too much conventional food, too much fried food, too much, you know, beer. And all of a sudden you stink.

We went instead of going to mass on Saturday night for Easter, we went Sunday and I went and I said, you know what? I'm gonna try this. I know how hard it is for me. Mom, you come over because you always complain I don't spend time with you wife. I'll do the same with you. And you guys are right. Because everything that I'm taught is your. You were created to take a rest. And I'm telling you man, I didn't, I didn't make it the whole day through. I had to do cardio and go to the gym, but I didn't work all day yesterday. And I told them, okay, we're gonna start doing this, this pattern every Sunday because I need this. And part of the reason I'm not as healthy as I should be is that just a prioritizing of rest and understanding that without the rest and recovery, all this training, all this working, all of this non stop. My phone's going off, I gotta answer this. Question. I've gotta record this, I gotta do that. You're not really, really making any sort of progression. You're actually digressing from life for what you're saying.

Dylan, that's a redefining of what success is. And all of us are thinking that, is it more money? Is it more time? Is it both? Most of us want both. That's what we're after, right? We work harder so we can have both in the future. But anyone who's sick, they also have to do the same. We have to redefine success. So for me, if I could just have a normal bowel movement that was successful for you. It's also in this, in this state, you're saying if I can have peace and still feel like my life is moving forward, that I'm still hitting my goals, but I'm okay to take eight hours and be present and not look at a screen or answer an email or be productive towards what work needs me to do. I can be here and I can be present. And that's where we have to meditate and understand what is success. And you can't just say that right now. You have to keep asking yourself over and over, because the tides turn. Whether you just got married or just got divorced, you just had a kid or you just had some sickness happen to you. Redefine success and start journaling and journal on a weekly basis to check in with yourself.

It's really a matter of being aware. You know what I mean? It's like so many people are just not aware. And I was like that. And I say this in my own personal problems, which I like to document to everybody so that I can use it as a prime example and teach people what I learned from it. And self awareness and accountability is like the big thing, you know, for me. And when I figured that out and made that more of a priority for me, everything else kind of falls in line. And you feel healthier too, because you're not holding anything inside. You're not beating yourself up anymore. You're not hiding emotions and feelings that you have. You're actually realizing you're human. This is part of life. I screwed this up, but it's very, very, very fixable. That's the thing is so many things are fixable if you let them be. It's when you don't let them be, you get in your own way and your own path and your own thinking. And what you just said kind of resonated with me. How do you define your own success or create your own success. And that just hit me. I'm at my best when I take that rest as opposed to me thinking I've got to do this all the time. And then I get so stressed and I'm actually unhappy because I know I'm neglecting the people that need me and I'm neglecting myself by not giving them what makes me feel good, you know. And so sometimes a lot of what we, we have is self inflicted.

Most of the time it is. And that's where it's hard because most of us just say, give me the supplement, give me the food, give me the hack that's going to drive me forward. But if you don't have the foundation of what is my definition of success and how do I place that for me, not someone else, you won't feel fulfilled in your life. And it comes with this idea, and I use this word for this very reason. You have to divorce this fake reality of what western world teaches. So what is that success? If we go to this idea of food, this is one of the hardest ones for everyone listening is this idea of what do I eat? And you probably even think the same. Is it paleo, is it carnivore? We're taught to try to raise the flag of someone else's idea. So I wrote a book and they've got 500 degrees that says that carnivore is great or ketosis is great or vegan is great or whatever. But at the end of the day it has to be customized to you and you have to love it. If you can't keep, keep up the perfect diet. It's a shit diet. I'll say it again, if you can't keep up as a lifestyle, the quote unquote perfect diet, it's a shit diet. Yeah. Because it's not in connection with you, it's not in balance. Consistency is worth more than perfection. So you have to divorce this idea of what's perfect and you have to get consistent before you can get great. I love it. Get consistent before you get great.

And sometimes it's just learning that that is the idiotic way to do things, but it's paying attention and listening and learning from everybody and everything. And when we have that opportunity and we try it and we listen and we're more open minded, well, shit, everything opens up. I lived in this low fat world for 20 years. Pure misery. And I was the exception as a nutritionist. And you know this. As a nutritionist, you're teaching everybody one thing and then you're the exception. And then when I said, you know what, no, I'm done, I'm done. Everything opened up to the like, wow, I feel the best I ever. I just got the best blood panel in my life recently.

And what happens that pulls us into what we said earlier about the lab tests. I completely agree. Go off, go off. You as a person go off what your body's telling you. Believe in your intuition, intuition first. Now the lab work can give you more information. So you're not being, you know, a little bit, you know, loss, you know, and you're not being, you know, someone who doesn't, you know, take that information, at least put it in the mix with what's, what the intuition is saying. But what I just heard on you, Dylan, is, is like to be backed up and what I'm feeling and what I'm experiencing and say, let's build your plan, Dylan. Like let's go up on the fats and let's tweak this. Because when you did that you were scared of A, B and C. So how do we cover your six on A, B and C while you try this new thing out? We have to build plans that lowers our risks, that people have our back, that it's okay to try something. And we just make sure this, we're not going to go flying off a cliff. That's it. And if these doctors are, you got to be careful. That's the one thing. If you work with people who are like, yeah, let's do it and they don't understand how to keep you good from the cliff. Like, no, I have diabetes, like, no, I have no, I actually have no gallbladder. And these things I can't do. Yeah, you people, we have to be heard more. So that's one of the hard thing is people listening. They're not being heard as even I can hear on you. You haven't been heard by a lot of people you've worked with. And so if it's not your plan, it's never going to work. It has to be your plan. Anyone you work with has to back you up, has to work for you, has to build something you're happy with. Here are my rule of thumbs to getting a great practitioner who's gonna get you life changing results. If they tell you to do something and you can't write two to three sentences on why you're doing it, don't do it.

Yeah. If you don't agree with it and intuitively you don't go, man, I think this is fire. Don't do it. And speak up. I just, I know you're smarter than me. And sometimes we'll be talked into something because they got 15 degrees and we paid them $10,000, some crazy amount of money to do it. And so we just get talked into it. No, it needs to be our plan. We have to be the owner of it. And number three is it needs to be something that's simple. Because success is always simplified and failure will always look hard. If your plan is too hard, your chance of failure is way higher. Start simple. You can always graduate. That's it. It's like if I see you. And here's another thing. When you're working with a practitioner, if you're going to see a practitioner every three months or every two months or even. Even once a month is, like, too much. The chance of you getting success to me is way lower. I don't care who you're working with, how smart they are. If you're not seeing them every two, three weeks, they can't control your variables. So I've worked with people who've seen the best of the best doctors on the planet all the time. I've seen the most severe clients you can imagine with Crohn's disease, things like that. The biggest advantage I have is I tend to meet them more often. I hold them accountable to our success tracker, and I keep track of every variable, and I move it in a way that I know works for chronic disease. Because I've been chronically sick, I've been chronically sensitive. You are sensitive. Your body reacts easily. If people tell you to do things, you have 25, 30 years of experience behind you that says that's not going to work. I don't care what you think you know and what that clinical research said. It's not going to work for me. You're not? No. My intuition's going off right now.

Everything's conflicting. You just got to start in the shallow end with certain small things. Because you're building trust with yourself and you're building trust with your team.

And the fear is telling you if to dive into the deep end or I'll be sick forever. I have to do this. All right? Now I have to go 100%. And you need someone to look at you and go, no, go 40%. We get. Next week's coming right around us. Just go 40% for a week or two. You can always add more. You know what killed me with the food? The fear. When I was chronically sick, alone, living in a house by myself, reading books all day long and hardly could walk. Just so everyone can relate a little bit. Okay? We're like, wow, dame went through it. Yes, I did. I would look at these diets and be like, wait, okay, I've got to only eat meat for the rest of my life. Like, what's the exit strategy? Or the banana diet, the fruitarian diet. Holy crap. This. This guy, I'm not gonna say his name. I didn't. I interviewed him, and he's telling me I should be eating 20. Like, no, it wasn't that much. It was like 12 to 15 bananas a day. Because I needed 1200 to 1500 calories. 100 calories each, plus very specific fats, like just an avocado and a little butter lettuce. And I did it for like five days. I just started losing massive weight, and I was already, wait, I'm six to 100 and some odd pounds, you know, so it's like you can get enrolled in this idea that the answer is almost death defying. And I think a lot of us have listened to that. What I've come to find is I can do things safe, test different foods and different even diets on the same day. Let me show you how you can do that. Now, if you're strict and you're really severe, take that with a grain of salt. Okay, guys, remember, we're talking to everyone at once right now. But this is what I realized. I did the. I did SCD diet, carnivore diet, keto diet, fruitarian diet, bone broth, fasting, intermittent fasting. I did all these diets, and I was just getting more sick. I mean, seriously did them all. And it was because the root issues were so sick. Diet wasn't enough anymore. If diet's healing, you that means you're not. That you're. You're okay. Your body can recover if diet's not healing you. The. The root issues are deeper. We just got to go deeper. We got to use food and drainage pathways, microbiome, digestion, nervous system regulation, probiotics, all that. Right. So what I did is I said, wait a minute. What if I took these fruitarian concepts and I put them in breakfast? And then I took these ideas that When I interviewed Dr. Gundry and I talked to Jordan Rubin and I looked at Against All Grain, I looked at paleo diet, I saw everyone agreed with, like grains, oxalates, polysaccharides. What if I did my food that specific and I couldn't break down fast, just like you? So they said, well, what if I just did raw fats, no, cooked fats, with digestive enzymes, just at low dose? Cause you gave me heartburn at first. And then I did a 20 minute meditation to increase my natural digestion through. Because when you're salivating in the mouth, you're in the parasympathetic. That's a sign. So how do you know your nervous system is regulated? Just get yourself the salivine, brother. All right, little hack. Where I have a. Why we just. I want to give everyone a hundred hacks today. But just get yourself salivating. It means you're in the parasympathetic and your digestion is already enhanced.

So, ready to go. And so. And then I can also use certain digestive bitters. Peppermint, ginger. Yes. Chamomile I can use maybe. I always take a little apple cider vinegar. When your body's ready. Not everyone, little like a half an ounce. Put it in hot water, maybe with a little lemon and just throw that back and. Hot water, I've never done that. I always do hot water because it gives me less reflex and less reaction. Hot water also increases absorption. Yeah, here's another hack I noticed if you have digestion problems or microbiomes, stop drinking cold water. It's bullshit. Cold water is okay. My children have never drank cold water. We were out and about the other day and they gave me a cold water and I gave it to my 2 year old and he was like, what the heck is this? Room temperature hot water or hot water. It's going to increase absorption. It also mitigates how much water you drink because water dilutes the digestion.

Pinch of salt under your tongue once or twice a day if you're feeling any doozy, any kind of dizziness or feeling under the weather that will get you up and will help with your heart rhythm as well. Second, you need electrolytes like a good big dose.

You do a lot. Twice a day. Okay. So I used to get dizzy when I was dehydrated with IBD because I couldn't drink straight water. It had to have electrolytes every time I drank it. And I couldn't drink it fast because I had all my water soluble vitamins were so low it would just flush me and I'd get dizzy. So a pinch of salt and then electrolytes twice a day can really help with that. And then you might, you could also use some other like high dose magnesium. I like a company called Upgraded Formulas. That one's got a specific magnesium that's basically as close to nanomagnesium as possible. Check them out. Family owned, just a young, young buck who's gone above and beyond to make what I think one of the best magnesiums there is. If you get severe cramping in your body, get his magnesium. Chelate with P6P5P does wonders for cramping and pain. I got a whole breakdown for that. But that will do wonders for like you know that, that energy, that heart you need more electrolyte, more salt, even pinch salt in the water and then you gotta enhance that digestion. Well or things we talked about like the getting your self salivating. Any kind of digestive bitters, apple cider vinegar, all before you eat. Now when I eat I only drink hot water because I only it you sip on it so it dilutes it. You don't want more than 46 ounces of water when you drink food because it can hurt your ability to break down the food. It dilutes the stomach acid. You want your ph at 2.2 to 2.4. And if you've got low stomach acid, you need to enhance that as much as possible, not dilute that food breaking down. And that's where you also need to be careful. If you have bad digestion. Here's your rule of thumb with food. I don't care what diet or what camp or clan you're in, okay? No seeds, no skins. If you can't squish it, don't eat it, okay? No seeds or skins, you can't squish it, don't eat it. Now this is for people with excessive. Now it's only Rule 1. Yeah, I can go to Rule 5, 6, 8, 9, 10. Sure. But if you don't know where to start and you're getting cramping, undigested food in the stool, severe bloating and gas, I want you to make sure that everything you eat is juicy. Something you could give to a 15 month old kid and something that's you hardly have to chew. Soft and delicious. Now I like to help our spirit with this idea. And I tell you, just eat like a king. Because if you were a king, you wouldn't be eating dry carrots that you're chilling out. Juicy, soft, delicious meat coming off the bone. Hardly have to chew, it melts in the mouth coming out of sterling silver, looking great. That's the food I want.

Eat like a king, stop eating hard food. And the thing is, you can't give what is insoluble fiber. There's two forms of fiber, okay? With food. I'm gonna give everyone a quick little thing, a little hack on food. Fiber is the indigestible matter found only in plants. The basic understanding for everyone who's just a human and not a PhD scientist listening right now. Fiber is only found in plants and it's indigestible. There are two forms of it. Soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Yep. Insoluble means it floats on water. Soluble means it absorbs water. When it absorbs water, it makes it squishy. When it doesn't absorb water, makes it hard. If you've got a bad gut, how are you gonna feel about eating some raw kale, some almonds? You'll be pooping out almonds and kale and corn? No thanks. No thanks. So think about when you're looking at food and if you got a hurt gut, just look at it and say, was it made normal without all the crap from modern day? And is it something that could give to a 15 month old child without injuring them? If those two answers are yes, that they're okay, then the chance that you're gonna get more bioavailability and less inflammation and potentially better Mitochondria. Because everything's gonna absorb better is much greater.

I mean, that's kind of extreme, right? So if you start from there, now I can eat raw food. I can eat nuts and seeds. I eat them every day. I can eat a variety of food. And when you heal the gut, here's the crazy hope I want to give to everyone. I couldn't have a sip of water. I couldn't. I ate like six different foods for about a year. Like, I could not eat anything. Now I could if I wanted. I could have a salad. I can eat Papa John's pizza. I could have McDonald's. I could eat anything. My body can handle. Is it good for me? No. But there's biochemistry. The structure of my body is so strong, it can now handle it. Now I want to give a metaphor to ever give everyone that fire in your belly, that this is not a sacrifice. Invest in your best self and you will be free. You will be freedom. If you tear your acl, just like your gut, let's say your gut is like a torn acl, okay? Metaphorically, if you tear your ACL and you build that thing back, if you take a hit on the basketball court, you're still going to be okay. The ACL can now take a little bit of stress. Now, if you do it every day, yeah, you don't want to do that. You could retear it, but you can celebrate. Your body can handle it. So I don't cheat. I don't got a diet. I got a lifestyle that makes me happy and it makes me healthy. And I am passionate about living my best life, which gives me freedom. And I love to eat healthy. I don't poison myself because I've changed my perspective, but I can celebrate whenever I want, however I want, right? Because my gut is healed. Because I am strong. And I built my shield, I built my Batman belt, that if something's not going wrong, I know how I'm going to use peptides. I know I'm going to use hyperbaric oxygen. I know when I'm going to do a parasite cleanse. I'm doing one right now. Plus I'm doing a peptide stack right now. I know how to look at food and make a difference. If I'm not feeling good. I know when there's a potential for viral reactivation. My body from cytomegalovirus, Epstein Barr virus. I know how to check it. I know how to kill it naturally. I don't need antibiotics, I don't need medications. I haven't taken a drug since 2015, 11 years ago. I know how to prepare myself for colonoscopy. I know how to check my blood work. I know how to look at what actually is going on in my body and not just rely on a diagnosis to tell me what my future is going to be. So this is what it is. I want everyone to realize from this podcast today, get empowered, become Batman. Put your Batman belt off. Start learning. Build a foundation and grow it and build a your answer because everyone around you works for you and help build what you want. And, and I think one of the last traumas I hear in people is do I have to take this for the rest of my life? No. If you want to make a plan and say I want to heal and never have to take a supplement, go ahead. But you're going to have to be one of the most strict people as far as your lifestyle because supplement supplements these western world living and the crappy air outside and the crappy food and the crappy water because our liver isn't strong enough to deal with man made toxins that God never, you know, put in our world. Absolutely. Now I'd love to give some people some hacks they can take away today that can be life changing potentially. Get them these clinical remission for me too. Okay, so number one is you've got to get beneficial bacteria into your life. Yes, beneficial. So what is beneficial bacteria? It just means single cell living organisms that work in unison with you as a host. Now if you're a good host or a bad host, those beneficial bacteria will work differently.

But get beneficial bacteria. If you don't have mast cell activation, severe sibo. Start getting in a really good sauerkraut. Maybe a kefir. I like fermentation fairies. A coconut creeper. Wildcrafted but it's strong. Work up to it. A raw super krauts makes really amazing krauts with digestive supports. They add herbs and bitters to help with digestion, help with anti inflammatory response. They've got amazing sauerkrauts as a starter for anyone who doesn't know where to start. But again, fermented foods are a problem if you're so sick. Third nature and probiotics, single cell power or single powder form strains. So every strain is in its own powdered box. So I take only Bifidobacterium bifidum or I take only Acidophilus, only bulgaricus. It's the best way to start with living beneficial bacteria that can actually get through the stomach acid. Okay, that's going to be great. Get in some beneficial bacteria. Next, clean water. We said get rid of, don't drink, don't buy $8 water at the store. That's in plastic. Okay. Glass only. Mountain valley is going to be great. Get a home system that makes your water clean because it's the best investment you can make. You know, I've got a triple filter water system with hydrogen water that I've been using for eight years. And it's just at home, all my kids drink it, my wife drinks it. That's gonna be great. A whole house water filter system also can be game changer to stop cleaning yourself in chlorine. Stop, you know, having these radioactive compounds. Yeah, right. So clean that out. A helpful filter. Also, like if we can get rid of toxins. Just a clean apple filter. I love the Jasper. I love air doctor get the bigger ones down, the smaller ones. The smaller ones don't work so well. Get the bigger one. Next one that's going to be actually not going to cost you a dollar is stop snacking. It doesn't make sense for humans to snack. For thousands of years there wasn't that much food. No. And I know it's okay when we're out and about, but try to like, it's like the 80, 20 rule. If you can build your new lifestyle, divorce the western world and do it 80 of the time, you're going to win. Yeah. So if you give yourself 20, hey, it's the weekend, I'm at a ball game, I'm with the kids, we're at the zoo. That's fine. Like get in balance. Remember, consistency is worth more than perfection. Stop snacking. Three square meals a day and eat when you're actually eating. Now, another hack is if you want to have beef tallow, masa chips or whatever and you're like, oh, I love my chips. Have them with the meal.

Like a house mix. Then you have to. The key is you've got to then let it sit in an acidic dressing. Okay. It'll break down all the bacteria that's raw on it. It'll kill it. It'll help break down the leaves. So you'll see the volume of the leaves in the bowl go from this to that. You ever seen that before? Yeah. We had seen a salad that's an hour old at Thanksgiving. You're like, what the hell happened to my salad? It's half the size. You're like, what the hell happened to my salad? It looks gooey now. So that's breaking down the leaves. So homemade dressing to start with. With Manuka honey. Apple cider vinegar, lemon juice. Really? And if you like it, a little dash of balsamic vinaigrette. Let it sit on your leaves for just seven minutes. The volume goes.

Once I fixed my gut, I started working in cheeses and yogurts, not raw milk. That will blow you up if you're starting to work dairy back in. Yeah, but you got to fix the gut. You fix the gut, you fix the parasites. You might see that your dairy use comes back up. Right? So that yogurt, dude, I just. Now I've got antioxidants, I've got more fiber, I've got all what the plant world's telling us about. Like you don't understand the value of all these plants. Plants. Because the top 10 anti cancer things are plants. They're right. They're plants. Right? That's going to make a big difference in your life. As we talked about, stop drinking cold water, hot water. Do hot water with lemon or teas at dinner. It'll save you tons of money at the restaurant. Tons of money buying plastic water bottles filled with crap, microplastics. And it get rid of the microplastics. Right. That's another one. Just get rid of plastics in your life. We talked about the Vitamix. We talked about storing things in plastic. We talked about Invisalign. Get that stuff out of there. Go to braces if you have to. That's going to be a game changer. Probiotics, absolutely going to make a difference. And then another one that could start today is castor oil packs.

I was going to the bathroom every single night, two to three times a night. Like I did not sleep through the night for months. Like eight months or nine months straight. And I was angry at God. And I was so sick and so lost. I didn't just pray in my head. I stood. I decided that I was going to read Jordan Rubin's prayer in his book the Maker's Diet. Okay. Every morning and every night he had a morning prayer. Tonight prayer. I taped them to my desk and I said, I am going to read this. And I wasn't just going to read it. I was going to physically get on my knees. I didn't care if my mom, girlfriend or friends saw me at 23 years old or 24 years old. And I was going to start praying on my knees with my hands together every morning and every night. And I did for, I mean, hundred and some 180 days.

The only answer. What it did when I pray into rational. It gave me hope and it made me feel like I wasn't alone. And it started unlocking like the law of attraction. You heard the secret. And I just felt on fire for like, I'm done being sick. I'm done being a victim. I'm enrolling you on what's good. I'm enrolling you on how. On what's next. And I just, I never looked back. And I just all of a sudden I looked at my life. I'm like, why am I watching these shoot em up movies? Why am I listening to Limp Bizkit right now? Like, put on some Bob Marley. You're trying to heal. Forget the nookie. Like let go of the nookie. No, put on some Jack Johnson. Open the shades. Get some sun on your face. You're pale as so true. Like what have you been thinking this entire. It literally like an unveil. It was like an apocalypse of unveiling. It was like, oh man, why have I been so angry with my father? Like, call him up.
