Welcome to the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio from Boise, Idaho. This is your host, Adam Graham. In a moment, we're going to bring you this Week's episode of Mr. And Mrs. North. Before we get started, I do want to encourage you if you're enjoying the podcast, to follow us using your favorite podcast software. Also, I do want to let you know our Great Detectives of Old Time Radio T shirts are available. You can get those at t shirt quality greatdetectives.net well, once again I find myself in a place with this series where what's been semi official efforts to catalog the series have not been accurate. I thought I had two more episodes to play for you, but one was mislabeled and the other was inaudible. So this is actually the second to last episode we have and I'll talk a little bit after the podcast what we're going to be doing in the interim period between finishing Mr. And Mrs. North and launching our new Old Time Radio adventure series. But now, here from October 14th, 1952 is the episode Fool's Gold.
Pam North
That must be Mrs. Gunther.
Jerry North
Now, Jerry, I'll answer them. Well, Mrs. Gunther, Mrs. North and I have been wondering. Mrs. Gunther. Pam. Pam, come here. Something's happened to Mrs. Gunther. Mr. And Mrs. North, starring Joseph Curtain and Alice Frost. Listen as Pam and Jerry solve the mystery Fools go. Yes, it's Pam and Jerry north with another thrilling transcribed story brought to you by Adler Sewing Machine and your neighborhood Adler dealer. Adler, manufactured since 1860. The sewing machine that needs no attachments. Adler, famous the world over for its magic zigzag stitch. Now, Mr. And Mrs. North, the houses on Stanley street are as modest and unassuming as the people who own them. People like the Gunthers, for instance, Herbert Gunther, his wife Rose, and their daughter Lois. And yet there's a difference between the Gunthers and their neighbors. A strange and terrible difference.
Pam North
Yes?
Lois Gunther
Oh, yes.
Pam North
Lois, I thought I heard you in here.
Lois Gunther
Well, I. I couldn't sleep. I came in for a cigarette. No, don't turn on the light. You might wake up your mother. What time is it?
Pam North
After 11.
Lois Gunther
Lois.
Pam North
Yes?
Lois Gunther
Lois, I. I can't go through with it, Dad. I can't.
Pam North
I can't heaven's sake, dad, get hold of yourself. Mother will hear you.
Lois Gunther
I don't care.
Pam North
Well, I do.
Lois Gunther
Please, Lo. I thought it all out. I want to go to the district.
Pam North
Attorney and to the penitentiary, too.
Jerry North
No.
Pam North
But what. What do you think the district attorney will do when you tell him why you held out against convicting Nick Daniel?
Lois Gunther
He already suspects.
Pam North
What he suspects and what he can prove are two different things.
Lois Gunther
And the people, the people down at work, everybody in the neighborhood, they know. They're not fools. They know there's a reason why I was the only man on that jury that voted for acquittal. And your mother, I think she knows, too. Oh, why did I do it?
Pam North
Why, for $10,000, that's why.
Lois Gunther
I shouldn't have listened to you. I've let you have your own way all your life.
Pam North
Stop it, Ned. Stop it.
Lois Gunther
For once, I should have said no to you.
Pam North
Stop it, Ted. Oh, darling, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I. Please forgive me.
Lois Gunther
It's all right, Lois.
Pam North
Oh, darling, listen. You mustn't torture yourself over what you did. I know how you must feel. I've always understood you. You told me so yourself, haven't you?
Jerry North
Yes.
Pam North
Even more than Mother. She's never cared. She's never understood you. Isn't that true?
Lois Gunther
Yes, Lois.
Pam North
No, listen. Listen to me. We had a chance, a chance some people never get. And we took it. And Tonight we have $10,000. Oh, darling, think of it. More money than you could have a dream of having by working the rest of your life for the North Publishing Company. Now you can have all the things you've always said you wanted for me and for yourself. And it isn't so. You kept Nick Daniels from being convicted of a real crime, a contempt charge. That's nothing.
Lois Gunther
Nothing.
Pam North
Of course not. But when I went to see him, I didn't think he'd be willing to pay anything just to stay out of jail for a few months. But he was. We'd have been fools not to have taken the money, wouldn't we?
Lois Gunther
Yes. Yes, I suppose so. And I'm sorry. I'm all right now. I was just a little frightened. A little nervous, I guess.
Pam North
I understand. Now, look, darling, you go on back to bed.
Lois Gunther
What's the matter?
Pam North
I heard something.
Lois Gunther
Your mother.
Pam North
Stay here.
Jerry North
Well.
Pam North
There wasn't anyone there.
Lois Gunther
Lois. What about your mother? She has to be told.
Pam North
She will be. When will it sleep? Now you go to bed. Let me worry about Mother.
Jerry North
Continued on page 16, column seven, page 14, page six. Oh, nuts.
Pam North
Pam. Oh. What is it, Jerry?
Jerry North
Where are you? In the bedroom, darling. Where is the rest of the evening paper?
Pam North
The rest of it? Well, I don't know, dear. Isn't it all there?
Jerry North
It's all here except the upper right hand corner of pages 15 and 16. Look.
Pam North
Oh, golly. Oh. Oh, that's right. There was an ad for the most marvelous sale of dresses on that page and I tore it up.
Jerry North
May I have it?
Pam North
Oh, of course, dear. Let's see. What did I do with it? Oh, yes, my purse.
Jerry North
I wish there was some way I could keep you from making confetti out of the newspaper until after I've read it.
Pam North
I'm sorry, darling. I thought you'd finished with a paper. Hey, here. Here's the ad. See? It fits into the torn part perfectly. And look, Jerry, isn't that the loveliest two piece jersey dress you ever saw for that crowd?
Jerry North
Darling, may I admire the dress after. After I found out what the President thinks our next step should be in the Far East.
Pam North
Of course.
Jerry North
Thank you.
Pam North
What, dear?
Jerry North
My bookkeeper is in the news again.
Pam North
Your bookkeeper? Oh, you mean that man Gunther?
Jerry North
Yeah. Listen. The district Attorney's office announced today it was dropping contempt charges against New York gambler Nick Daniels. The decision came one week after Daniels first trial when the jury standing 11 to 1 for conviction, failed to reach a verdict. This reporter has learned the lone juror who held out for acquittal was Herbert Gunther of 116 Stanley Street.
Pam North
Jerry, would you mind not reading anymore? Honestly, darling, every time I think of what Herbert Gunter did, I get so angry.
Jerry North
Take it easy, dear. Take it easy.
Pam North
I'm sorry, but I. I don't see how you can be so calm about it. Everybody knows what Nick Daniels is and he was obviously guilty.
Jerry North
Well, apparently Gunther didn't think so. And if that was his honest opinion.
Pam North
Yes, but I don't think it was an honest opinion. I think that bookkeeper of yours deliberately.
Jerry North
I'll answer it yet.
Pam North
Hello? Mr. North?
Jerry North
Yes?
Pam North
Mr. North, this is Rose Gunther.
Jerry North
Who?
Pam North
Mrs. Gunther.
Jerry North
Herbert Gunther's wife.
Pam North
Who is it, Jerry?
Jerry North
Herbert Gunther's wife.
Pam North
What? Mr. North?
Jerry North
Yes, Ms. Gunther?
Pam North
I'm sorry to bother you at this hour of the night, but I was wondering if I could see you for a few minutes tonight.
Jerry North
What about?
Pam North
I can't explain on the phone, Mr. North. What does she want, Jerry?
Jerry North
All right, Mrs. Gutha.
Pam North
Thank you, Mr. North. I can be at your apartment in about an hour. Goodbye.
Jerry North
Well, speak of the devil or the devil's wife.
Pam North
What was that all about?
Jerry North
I'm not sure, dear. But I have a very strong hunch that whatever it is, we're not going to like it.
Pam North
Stan, wake up.
Lois Gunther
Lois. What is it? What's the matter?
Pam North
Put on your robe and slippers and come with me. And hurry.
Lois Gunther
All right, all right. But where are we going?
Pam North
To Mother's room.
Lois Gunther
To Mother's room? Lois, what is this? Look, There's a light on in her room.
Pam North
Yes.
Lois Gunther
What is she doing up?
Pam North
Dressing to go out.
Lois Gunther
What looks. Lois.
Pam North
Herbert. May we come in, Mother?
Lois Gunther
Rose, where are you going?
Jerry North
Out.
Pam North
Where? Well, if you don't want to tell him, Mother, I will. Now, you heard me on the telephone.
Lois Gunther
The telephone?
Pam North
Talking to Mr. North. She asked to see him. That's where she's going.
Lois Gunther
Rose, do you know. Yes.
Pam North
I heard you and Lois in the living room tonight.
Lois Gunther
I'm sorry.
Pam North
If you mean for yourself, you should be.
Jerry North
But if you mean for me, there's.
Pam North
No need to be sorry. What I heard didn't come as any great shock. I suspected why you'd held out against convicting that man, Daniel.
Jerry North
The best I could do was hope I was wrong.
Pam North
Now I can't do even that anymore.
Jerry North
Why?
Lois Gunther
Why are you going to Mr. North?
Pam North
Because he's been good to you since the trial. With all that nasty publicity you got, he would have been justified in firing you. But he didn't. Now, I want his advice. You already know what that will be. Yes.
Lois Gunther
Listen, Rose, try to understand. I. I took that money. I. I made that deal with Nick Daniels for us.
Jerry North
Not for us, for her. The Lois.
Pam North
The 23 years she's been all you've lived for. I haven't married to you from the moment she was born. And I hate you for that, Herbert. I hate you both. Wait a minute, Mother. Get away from that door, Lois. No. Get away from that door, Lois. Let go of me. You think I'm going to let you walk out of here, ruin my one chance to have all the things I've ever wanted?
Jerry North
You crazy? You think? Go.
Pam North
I will.
Jerry North
Stop it.
Pam North
Lord.
Lois Gunther
Stop.
Pam North
Goodbye, dad. We can't let her go. We can't let her ruin everything like this.
Lois Gunther
Oh, this. There's nothing we can do, Louis. There's nothing we could do.
Pam North
You fool. You poor, stupid, violent fool. Information. I want the telephone number listed to Mr. Nick Daniels on Granley Square. That's right. The name is Nick Daniels.
Jerry North
Well, it appears that Lois Gunther has stopped asking for trouble and is prepared to start giving some.
Pam North
Sewing the joy. With an Adler sewing machine. It's easy with an Adler you can do buttonholes, monograms, dozens of jigs. It's easy with an addler. No attachment to buy or fix.
Jerry North
Ladies, have you ever asked the question, why haven't sewing machines been improved and modernized like other home appliances? You've probably also wondered why you still have to fuss and bother with clumsy attachments when sewing on an ordinary sewing machine. Well, the Adler sewing machine, manufactured since 1860, answers these questions. Because on an Adler, you can do all your sewing without using any attachments. Yes, you can sew on buttons, make buttonholes, applique, monogram, blind, stitch hems and many, many other sewing operations, all on the Adler without touching a single attachment. You'll be delighted at the ease with which this machine does intricate and fancy sewing with just the flick of the magic zigzag lever. Amazing, but true. See this sewing wonder at your nearest Adler dealer. See for yourself what the Adler can do for you. The Adler is available in handy portable or handsome cabinet models. If you like to sew, you deserve an Adler. Now, back to Mr. And Mrs. North.
Pam North
When I tried to stop her, dad made me let her go.
Jerry North
That's fine. That's just dandy. What's the matter with that old man of yours anyway?
Pam North
He's so mixed up, Mr. Daniels?
Jerry North
You bet he's mixed up. So are you mixed up with something that'll send us all to the pen if that mother of yours shoots her mouth off. I told you we should have had the old lady in on a deal.
Pam North
All right, all right, Mr. Daniels. We made a mistake. So what are we going to do?
Jerry North
All you're gonna do is ride her on your old man. I'll handle your mother.
Pam North
How?
Jerry North
It all depends on how well she listens to a reasonable guy with a reasonable proposition. What's the address? This guy she's gonna talk to. It's Mr. Still.
Pam North
Isn't any answer at the Gunther's, Jerry?
Jerry North
Not a people.
Pam North
Something's happened to Mrs. Gunther, Jerry. I just know it has.
Jerry North
Oh, now, Pam, dear, let's not look.
Pam North
At the time, darling. It's been almost two hours since she phoned.
Jerry North
Well, yes, but she had to come from way out in Queensland to get here.
Pam North
But it doesn't take two hours. Jerry, listen. You agree that Mrs. Gunther must have wanted to see you about the way her husband behaved at Nick Daniels trial?
Jerry North
Yes, dear, but.
Pam North
And you said she sounded strange on the telephone. As though she was talking very low to keep someone at the other end from hearing her.
Jerry North
So?
Pam North
Well, if she found out that there was something wrong about The Daniels trial. Jerry, you know Nick Daniels reputation. Why, he. He's the kind of man who'd stop at nothing.
Jerry North
For heaven's sake, Pam, stop it. You're just letting your imagination run away with you. Now look.
Pam North
Jerry, the door.
Jerry North
You see, darling? What'd I tell you? All you're worrying phenomenon.
Pam North
Do you think that's Mrs. Gunther?
Lois Gunther
Well, of course.
Jerry North
Who else would it be at this hour of the night? I'll answer it. Why don't you make some coffee? She might like a cup.
Pam North
Oh, all right, dear.
Jerry North
Well, Mrs. Gunther, we've been wondering.
Lois Gunther
Mrs. Gunther.
Pam North
Mr. North.
Jerry North
Mrs. Gunther. What is it?
Pam North
Help. Help. Help. Help.
Jerry North
Pam. Pam, come here. What's the matter?
Pam North
Jeff? Is that Mrs. Gunther?
Jerry North
Yeah.
Pam North
What's the matter with her?
Jerry North
She's dead. Stabbed.
Pam North
Dad, Is that you?
Lois Gunther
Yes. Yes, it's me.
Pam North
Where have you been?
Lois Gunther
Oh, just. Just walking.
Pam North
I heard you go out and I.
Lois Gunther
Thought but I'd gone to give myself up. Well, I was going to, but then I thought, what's the use of. Rose is taking care of that. Besides, it was. It was nice out tonight and I wanted a little more time just to walk.
Pam North
Dad, listen, I packed some bags for us. We can go somewhere tonight. And then when the bank opens in the morning, you can get the money out of the safe deposit board and run away. Yes.
Lois Gunther
No, dad, no. I'm going to stay right here.
Pam North
Maybe you are, but I'm not.
Lois Gunther
Then go.
Pam North
You're the only one who can get the money out of the bank.
Lois Gunther
Then you'll have to go without the money. I'm. I'm sorry, Lois, but this is one time I can't listen to you this once. I can't give you what you want.
Pam North
All right. Kevin, you are with you.
Lois Gunther
Yeah. We should be hearing from your mother soon.
Jerry North
Yes.
Lois Gunther
Why did I do it? That's. That's what I can't understand. Why, just two weeks ago tonight, I remembered while I was out walking, I. I came home from work early and I had dinner and worked out in the yard. I raked leaves and. And while they were burning And Bob Williams next door and I. We. We stood around and. And we talked. And then I came in and read the paper and went to bed. That was the way my life was. I wasn't the kind of man who. Who'd do a thing like this. So how did it happen?
Pam North
Why did I do it? Why? Oh, stop it. Stop feeling so sorry for yourself. You make me sick listening to you. Oh, I'll answer it. Hello? Yes, this is the Gunther residence. Lois Gunther. Speaking. What we here. No.
Jerry North
No.
Lois Gunther
What? What is it, Lois?
Pam North
He is. He is. Right away. Mr. North.
Lois Gunther
Mr. North. What's the matter, Lois? Has something happened to your mother?
Pam North
Yes.
Lois Gunther
What?
Pam North
She. She's dead.
Jerry North
Dead?
Pam North
She's been murdered. At the North. The police are there now. Mr. North said mother rang his bell and when he answered the door.
Lois Gunther
Daniels. He killed her. Daniels killed her. And you. You told him she was going to see Mr. North?
Jerry North
No.
Lois Gunther
But how did he know?
Jerry North
You're lying. Tell me the truth.
Lois Gunther
I want the truth.
Jerry North
Please stand out.
Lois Gunther
Then tell me the truth.
Pam North
All right. Yes, I told him.
Jerry North
Dad.
Lois Gunther
Scum.
Pam North
What are you doing? Dad? What are you doing?
Jerry North
What?
Pam North
I got.
Lois Gunther
I'm. I'm going to see Nick Daniels. I'm going to kill him if it's the last thing in the world I do. I'm gonna kill him.
Jerry North
Okay, Leo. You can tell the boys with a basket I'm true. Right, Sergeant. I'll be out in the kitchen talking to Mr. And Mrs. North. Okay. All right, you guys, you can.
Lois Gunther
All right.
Jerry North
Got any more coffee? Why, sure. Come in, Sergeant Brady, and sit down.
Pam North
I'll get you a cup.
Jerry North
Thanks. You're in charge here? Temporarily.
Pam North
Temporarily?
Jerry North
This case will go downtown headquarters before morning. According to the patrolman who answered your call, you identified the woman as Mrs. Herbert Gunther. That's right.
Pam North
Yes, Sergeant.
Jerry North
Cream and sugar, I take it? Blank. Thanks. Mrs. Herbert Gunther, the wife of the one juror who hung tough and wouldn't convict Nick Daniels, Right? Right. Now she's dead. Murdered. I think there's a connection, don't you?
Pam North
Of course we do.
Jerry North
And so will everyone else from the commissioner on down. That's why they'll take it over downtown. Nick Daniels is big. Nobody knows exactly how big, maybe, but big enough for the department to call on the first string to crack this thing. Meanwhile, it's my baby. And I wouldn't mind having a crack at Daniels myself. Oh, he can understand that. So would you folks like to take a ride down this place on Grimly Square? We can talk on the way. Drink your coffee and let's go. Sergeant. Ah, the coffee can wait, Mr. North. Nick Daniels can't. Okay, okay. Who is it?
Lois Gunther
Herbert Gunther, Mr. Daniels.
Jerry North
Gunther. What do you want?
Lois Gunther
I've got to see you.
Jerry North
What about?
Lois Gunther
Please, Mr. Daniels, open the door. It's important.
Jerry North
Okay. Come in.
Lois Gunther
Thank you.
Jerry North
It's okay. Gunther Spillen. What do you got in your mind?
Lois Gunther
Murder, Mr. Daniels.
Jerry North
Say, what is this? What are you doing with that rod?
Lois Gunther
I'm going to kill you. What? I mean it, Mr. Daniels.
Jerry North
What's the matter with you? You jump your trolley or something?
Lois Gunther
You killed my wife.
Jerry North
Your wife?
Lois Gunther
To keep her from talking to Mr. North.
Jerry North
You're nuts.
Lois Gunther
My daughter telephoned you. She said.
Jerry North
I don't know what you're talking about. Now look, you crazy old. Go take that cat pistol.
Lois Gunther
Gaddy, stay where you are. Mr. Daniels, come.
Jerry North
Listen.
Pam North
Use your head.
Jerry North
You can't get away with this.
Lois Gunther
I don't to want get away with it, Mr. Daniels. What happens to me now doesn't matter.
Jerry North
Ah, look. Concert.
Lois Gunther
Be quiet, Mr. Daniels.
Jerry North
Will you tell me?
Pam North
Don't move.
Jerry North
For the love of Mike, will you give me that? Open up, Daniels. It's the police. Cops. Hear that, Gunther? You shoot me and they'll grab you before you can move. Give me that gun, Gunther.
Lois Gunther
Hey, where you are, mister? Destination.
Jerry North
You let go of me. Stop it.
Pam North
No.
Jerry North
Let me go or I'll. Daniel.
Pam North
Jerry. That was a gunshot.
Jerry North
Come on, Mr. North.
Lois Gunther
Let you get towards the door, right?
Adam Graham
Wait.
Pam North
Someone's unlocking the door.
Lois Gunther
Hello, Mr. North. Gunther.
Pam North
What happened in here, Mr. Gunther?
Jerry North
Where's Nick Daniels?
Lois Gunther
Over there, behind the couch. He's dead.
Jerry North
Well, it appears that this time Herbert Gunther found Nick Daniels guilty.
Pam North
Sewing's a joy with an Adler sewing machine it's easy with an Adler you can do buttonholes, monograms, Dozens of chicks. It's easy with an Adler. Lois Gunther
Take it.
Jerry North
Sergeant. Yes, Mr. North? Daniels isn't dead. Where was he hit?
Pam North
On the side of the head.
Jerry North
It was just a flesh wound. The slug nicked him enough to knock him out, but that's all. Take it easy, Daniels. You're gonna be okay. At least we won't have to amputate. Very funny, copper. You're a scream, ain't you? Look. That crazy old fool tried to kill me and jumped him. He would have. Don't kid yourself, Daniels. You were just lucky. Luckier than you deserve and luckier than you'll ever be again. The guy who turns on the juice up and Sing Sing never misses. If you're saying I killed Gunther's wife, you Nazi's lying. Look, Gunther, you've had a busy evening. You must be tired. You just relax till I get around you, huh? Okay, Daniels. That's a cop. Only got one thing to say. I didn't kill the gun today. I had no reason to kill her.
Pam North
That's a lie, Lois.
Jerry North
Well, well. Who's that?
Lois Gunther
My daughter, lois.
Jerry North
Come in, Ms. Gunther. How do you know Daniels is lying?
Pam North
Because I telephoned him. I told him my mother was going to tell Mr. North that Father had taken $10,000 from Nick Daniels to hold out for acquittal in his contempt trial.
Jerry North
Well, how about it, Daniels? Come on, Nick. Come on, let's stop wasting time. Okay, that much is true. Dame here called me and waited for her mother outside the North's apartment house.
Pam North
Stabbed her to death?
Jerry North
No, I forced her into my car. I was going to bring her up here and have a talk with her. Convinced her she had to keep her mouth shut. We got out of the car out in front here. She started screaming her head off. People started popping their heads out of the windows. So you just let her go? I had. And you didn't catch up with her again in our apartment building? No. I think you're lying, Daniels.
Lois Gunther
Of course he's lying.
Pam North
Well, I don't think he is. And neither would you, dear, if you just stop and think a minute.
Jerry North
Think about what?
Pam North
What you said on the telephone when you called the Gunther House about Mrs. Gunther having been killed. Do you remember exactly what you said?
Jerry North
Oh, no, not exactly.
Pam North
Well, I do. Very exactly. You talked to Lois Gunther and you told her her mother was dead. That she'd been killed. That's all.
Jerry North
So?
Pam North
So if you just said that Mrs. Gunther had been killed and. And not how she'd been killed, why did Lois Gunther accuse Nick Daniels of stabbing her mother? I. I didn't. Oh, but you did, Ms. Gunther.
Jerry North
And there was only one way you could have known your mother had been stabbed to death.
Pam North
Lois, I didn't kill her. I didn't.
Lois Gunther
You're lying.
Pam North
No.
Jerry North
Take it easy.
Lois Gunther
Go on me, Lois.
Jerry North
Tell me the truth.
Lois Gunther
You hear?
Jerry North
I want the truth.
Pam North
All right. All right. Yes, I killed her. I ran over to the north to make sure Mr. Daniels stopped her from talking to them. And then when I saw her coming back after getting away from me. I. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm afraid your tears come a little too easily, Ms. Gunther. And much too laugh. Jerry.
Jerry North
Yes, dear?
Pam North
Did you bring home an evening paper?
Jerry North
I certainly did, darling. In fact, I not only brought home one, I brought two.
Pam North
Two? Oh, that's wonderful, dear. I've been meaning to tell you that I thought that with the elections coming on, we should read more than one newspaper so we get both sides of the question. Which paper did you buy? The Courier and the Ledger?
Jerry North
No, dear. I bought two copies of the Courier.
Pam North
Two of the Courier? You can't get both sides of the question from two copies of the same paper.
Jerry North
No, my pretty little ad clipper. But I can get both sides of the page.
Pam North

You can make a difference in someone's life, including your own, with a job in home care. These jobs offer flexible schedules, health care, retirement options and free training. The highlight of the episode, the Adler Sewing Machine ads. Incredibly catchy. Could listen to the ad all day and honestly, it was a hundred times better than the episode itself. Easily. This is my least favorite episode of the series. Prior to when you get the Britton and Denning takeover on radio, it's soapy melodrama worse than anything we heard in the spring, episodes that barely featured our heroes and more just focused on over the top acting from the guy who played the person who worked for Jerry as well as the woman who played his daughter. And this is a story. It's a rare episode where nothing worked. The crime the guy gave a 10,000 bribe not to be convicted was ridiculous. I mean contempt. When has contempt figured in one of these cases before? And we don't even get Bill Wigan. We get a sergeant who admits he's essentially a second Ring detective, which I guess they have on the nypd. Wonder where Tartaglia is in those rankings. I digress. Even the little banter we get between Jerry and Pam is weak sauce. He's a book publisher, makes good money, it's an extra newspaper on the days when there are coupons. It's the most petty of domestic annoyances possible, and the way it's handled is quite tedious. The worst part of this episode is is that it gets mislabeled as other episodes. So I've heard this one at least parts of it more times than any other. So I've had to listen to this repeatedly. And I will say though the one thing I will say in its favor is that the average Denning Frost episode is actually worse. Although it is kind of along the same lines now, due to the mislabeled episodes that we dealt with that we thought we would be playing, we're kind of getting to the end of the series a bit early. So we are going to be doing some specials on Thursday just to give us the time to get the adventure series properly launched. But next week will be our last. Mr. And Mrs. North, and then we will have our spring vacation. All right, well, now it's time to thank our Patreon supporter of the day. And I want to go ahead and thank Joe. Here's a little thing I picked up in London, Johnny. It's called the Old man in Red by Goya. I thought original oils by him were found only in the big museum. And I've been pretty lucky in getting hold of some of these. Yeah, you've known what you were doing too. You like this one? It's called Fright. It was painted by Kenneth McManus. Aha.

Beautiful.

Beautiful. Like all the rest of them. Thanks. How about this one here at the end? Night Wind by. I'm sorry, Vincent, I can't make out that name. You don't have this one lighted like the rest? No, that's to maintain its somber mood. Oh, and that's what made it possible for the substitution of this copy to go undetected. That's a copy? Yeah, and that's my problem. The hundred thousand dollar night win by Jean Baptiste has been stolen. This was left in its place. Oh, I see. It's not a bad copy. Probably worth a couple of hundred dollars, but it's hardly a genuine Baptiste. When did you discover this substitution? When I returned from a lecture tour early last week. Oh, that's right. You've been traveling all over the country lecturing on art. Let's call it talking about art. Tell me, have you notified the police about this? I suppose I should have. Well, I felt that was Bird Parker's job.
