Every person has their own opinion on this heated topic. Do you stay in touch with an ex? Is it wrong to be friends with an ex? Do you speak to or check on your ex? Are you curious or jealous of your partner's ex? Some say they are an ex for a reason, but an ex could also be the one that got away. Let's have a discussion around the do's and don't's of staying in touch with an ex. Welcome to The Hot Girl School! The podcast where we redefine confidence and go way beyond the reflection you see in the mirror. We're your hosts Lauren and Danielle, here to empower you to embrace your inner radiance because confidence is so much more than looks. Our goal is to help you become your best self. Whether you're strutting into an event or conquering the boardroom, join us as we explore topics like self love, inner strength and owning your unique journey to confidence. So, grab your favorite drinkie and turn up the volume because you're about to unleash your true potential. WE ALL HAVE A PAST. When you're single, you keep the exes on the back burner in case it doesn't work out or just for your ego's sake to know they haven't moved on. Which quite frankly, is very unhealthy. Now if you are in a relationship but still staying in touch with an ex, ask yourself, "how much do I value this current relationship?". By staying in touch we mean checking social profiles, sending Happy Birthday texts, finding random reasons to strike up a conversation. Then examine your current relationship for what is missing and why you are reaching out to your ex. We all know that a break up requires breaking up with the family and possibly the friend group, so is it ok to stay in touch with your ex's family? We say yes. The caveat is that it's truly to stay in touch with the family and NOT a way to secretly get to the ex. If you are hanging around or reaching out in hopes to have some insight dropped about your ex's life that is the wrong reason. Cutting ties with the ex's family to ensure your current relationship stays in the safe zone would be a smart idea right about now. There are different levels of ex's. Someone who was around for 1-3 months. Someone was you were very in love with. And everything in between. TAKEAWAYS: You know how you feel about your ex. Your actions will follow suit. The truth always comes out. If you aren't happy in your current relationship then your ex will look real good. If you have no feeling for your ex then perhaps a small encounter means nothing. ONLY YOU KNOW. How you know you're in the right relationship: Open communication about ex's is safe. It doesn't need to be word vomit about an ex, but it can be a teaching tool so your current person knows how to treat you and why things they do upset you. An ex can shape the way you approach your new relationship. Set boundaries. Self aware. Practice how to communicate. Work on yourself to show up as your best. If the person you're dating doesn't mirror your healthy habits, ditch em! FIRE EPISODE🔥 How you treat your husband or boyfriend plays a huge role in the quality of the relationship. Typically one person teaches the other person how to treat them and what the dynamic of the relationship will be like. Disclaimer: If you’re unhappy in your relationship, it’s most likely 1 of 2 things. Either you’re an unhappy individual who needs to work on yourself OR you’re with the wrong person. Why do we treat our significant others poorly? Unresolved personal issues, lack of communication, unrealistic expectations, power dynamic, stress or burnout, lack of empathy, emotional immaturity, cultural differences, neglect of the relationship, lack of self awareness, toxic dynamic What should you focus on to make your relationship better? 1. Resolving personal issues aka working on yourself. No one can fix you. This allows you to show up whole. When you show up whole to a relationship, the person you choose to be with is now part of your world instead of your whole world. One person can’t be your everything. Not only is that a lot of pressure, but it will put stress cracks on the relationship. Depending on yourself, knowing who you are and trusting yourself lead to confidence. Because you have done the work, you are able to identify why things are bothering, you have the words to put your emotions into context and can then communicate the issue rather than use further damaging tools such as passive aggressive, screaming, gas lighting, avoiding the topic altogether. 2. Communication. Communication can mitigate just about every other problem in a relationship. So many bigger issues pop up due to people not speaking up. No one is a mind reader. AND there is always a nice way to say what you want to say. Learning simple techniques like walking away and speaking it about it later when each person has cooled down or staying solution focused instead of blaming are easy ways to improve communication. Consider practicing what you need to say. Work on a short script, practice it and then think through the conversation to where it could go. Knowing the conversation can go multiple directions will help you recognize how you feel. What does a healthy relationship look like? Open communication, mutual respect, trust and honesty, equality and partnership, healthy conflict resolution, support and encouragement, emotional and physical intimacy, individuality and independence, fun and joy, shared goals and values. Important: give yourself permission to be in a healthy, happy, loving, fun, kind, trusting relationships. After leaving a toxic relationship, you are driven by chaos. The tumultuous ups and downs become normal which isn’t normal at all. The healthy relationship will feel boring and you will poke the bear for a reaction. Unconditional love is SUCH a beautiful thing. Unconditional love IS NOT treating someone poorly and expecting them to always be there. It's doing things for someone when it's inconvenient for you. It's caring for them when you are sick. It's putting their needs equal to their own. Tangible action items to a healthier relationship: -Stop what you’re doing and greet him when he comes through the door. Give him your undivided attention -Make an effort to not be on your phones and have a conversation -Have date night once a week -Say I love you -speaking highly of him when he’s not around -The body will tell you how you feel about someone. In a healthy relationship you Hug, grab each other’s butt, cuddle, snuggle, hold hands. If you’re grossed out to do any of these, it’s time to go! -Simply choose to be all in, 100% and give yourself permission to have a happy relationship. -Hang out with friends who have quality relationships with their spouse, speak positively of them and are proud of them Let's Connect :📸 Follow us on Instagram: @thehotgirlschool 🔥 Follow us on TikTok: @thehotgirlschool 🟥 Follow us on YouTube: @thehotgirlschool TALK TO US! This is a contentious topic! When you receive the invite to go to a group dinner, do you roll your eyes because you know how it's going to go down? Between the research and our experience, we are going to tell you how it SHOULD be so you can educate yourself and the host! Every single person has their own opinion on this and there actually is a correct way to go about it. The reason people don't like group dinner is because they pay for everyone else to indulge. Even you don't eat and you simply go for the company, you are still expected to chip in. You know if you say yes to the invite, you are going to be splitting the bill regardless of what your ate, drank or if you can afford it. The three ways the bill is paid: 1. Everyone puts in their card 2. Itemize the final bill and multiple cards with different amounts 3. Separate bills Rarely to almost never does the host have a conversation around the bill prior to hosting the event. According to research, the host is supposed to pay the final bill is she organized the event. If that is NOT her intention then it should be stated at the time of the invite. Speaking up and asking for your own bill is awkward. It takes confidence in your decision to say take this route. Sometimes you will get verbal pushback for doing this. In order to avoid this whole situation with the bill after, the host needs to find out from the restaurant if they allow split checks. Let your guests know as the host that the restaurant doesn't split checks and ask the group if they are ok with using cash app. The solution is to choose a different restaurant if the majority of people aren't ok with this. It's also the responsibility of the host to find out how the group wants to pay. Having this conversation up front is much easier and eliminates the tension at the end of a fun night. It's a simple question to get a pulse on the group, "how do we want to take care of the bill? Do you want to split the bill or do you want individual checks?". If speaking up about how you want to pay whether it's splitting evenly or individual checks, you need to realize that's a you problem. Get comfortable saying you can't make it or how you'd like to pay. Why do we overshare? We want validation, we have something to prove because we don't feel good enough. In other situations, we overshare because we are seeking advice and hoping that someone else can provide the answer for us when the answer is your choice. How do you stop? Welcome to The Hot Girl School! The podcast where we redefine confidence and go way beyond the reflection you see in the mirror. We're your hosts Lauren and Danielle, here to empower you to embrace your inner radiance because confidence is so much more than looks. Our goal is to help you become your best self. Whether you're strutting into an event or conquering the boardroom, join us as we explore topics like self love, inner strength and owning your unique journey to confidence. So, grab your favorite drinkie and turn up the volume because you're about to unleash your true potential. As easy as it is to say "stop oversharing" the action and the reason is something that you can't just shut off. Perhaps you weren't listened to as a child so you constantly talk. Perhaps you don't feel good enough to be in that work situation so you overshare with colleagues. Perhaps you just want advice because you don't trust yourself to make a decision which leads to the friends/family using it against you down the road. Tangible tools to stop oversharing: 1. Create your top 3. These are the friends you go to with anything and everything because it's a judgement free zone. even if you mess up they will still love and support you. 2. Talk it out. Voice record yourself talking and talking and talking. Friends get tired of listening to you talk in circles. Your voice recorder won't. This will also allow you the ability to go back and listen it. Perhaps you pick up some extra clues! And now it's out of your system 3. Journal. If you don't want to voice record, a good ol pen and paper will do the trick. If youre a visual person this is the best way to get things out of your systems. create a pros and cons list, rank things, etc. 4. Decide what points you are going to talk about prior to arriving in the situation. If you think through what details to share and what details to hold back, you're prepared and won't slip up. Be Self Aware. Get to know yourself. Do the work. Trust yourself. We can't stress this enough. Being self aware of what you're saying, how you're saying it and the frequency is important. People can see through know it alls. People can see through smoke and mirrors. You can't trick someone and if you can, it's for a short time. Places to NOT overshare: Social Media Family Friends Strangers Work Consider your boundaries. If you have loose boundaries with yourself, this may contribute to oversharing as well. Respect yourself enough to know that things are to be kept private. Not everything needs to be news. Less is more. Something this motto can apply to discussions. If it's a great story that deserves every little detail then yes, go for it. If it's not then remember most people don't care. As much as your friends and family want to help you, there is also a limit that they can handle. So if you want to have a productive conversation, use their time wisely. Build your muscle to feel confident with your decisions. This way NO ONE can shake you. If you come to a decision and you are genuinely excited, other's people's opinions won't bug you if they don't align with your decision. If feedback does shake you then maybe you aren't as confident about that decision as you thought (: New episodes every Tuesday! Are you tired of living in your reality? We hate to say it, but you created it. How do you change it? What you focus on grows. You also HAVE TO THINK YOU ARE WORTHY of what it is you want. Get what you want. Visualize. Manifest. They all mean the same thing! Easy example to implement TODAY: Princess Parking Before you leave your house, say aloud that you want Princess Parking. Be sure that you are clear what Princess Parking is to you. Is that a close spot? Is that an end spot? Is that a big spot? Is that a shaded spot? Does it mean you find your parking spot quickly? Once Princess Parking is given a meaning then when you ask for it, it happens! Things to Remember when Manifesting: You have to believe you are worthy of it. You have to believe it your core If you say one thing but truly want something else, then it also won't come true. Say what you want confidently. Saying it like you feel dumb, it also won't happen. YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK! You are powerful! It's a chain reaction. When one thing shows up, you want to do it again with something bigger. It will show up and possibly even faster. EXERCISE: create an audio visual video of the life you want and narrate it. Save it to your phone and watch it every morning and every evening. Make sure you narrate it. Just because you don't like the sound of your voice doesn't mean you should shy away. Manifestation must be backed up with action. Stay open to receive and notice the opportunities brought to you. Staying in a flow state helps more show up for you. HOW TO MANIFEST: 1. See it 2. Touch it 3. Feel it 4. Taste it 5. Hear it YUP! Include all 5 senses to manifest effectively. How do you manifest? What do you want to manifest? SHARE WITH US! If you enjoyed this video, remember to give it a thumbs up, subscribe for more inspiring content, and hit the bell icon for new episodes every Tuesday!
