Welcome to the penultimate day of Energy Quest. Wow. I can't believe we have literally been flying through these. And I have to say, I have been loving recording this series and I've been loving the conversations in our telegram chat group and hearing all of the wonderful things that have been happening to all of you as you've been taking yourself through these beautiful sessions and meditations. And thank you so much for those of you who've been sharing how life changing these sessions have been for you. So thank you. Today we are going to be talking about the spleen, which is a purely human design energy center and chakra. I'm going to start today with where your splenic chakra resides in your body. So in your human sign chart, you'll, you'll see that it's directly opposite your solar plexus. So if you remember a couple of days ago we talked about the solar plexus being the energy center that was above your left hip. Well, this time we're going to go just above your right hip. So above your right hip, just beneath your rib cage. So place your hand in between like almost like on your hip, Hand on your hip, on your right hip. This is where your spleen is. This is where your splenic chakra resides. It's just there. And when it comes to the, the energy expression and how that relates to your body, this is all to do with your immunity, it's all to do with your lymphatic system. It's your ears, your nose, your tongue. And really this is just such a perfect introduction to talk about where it resides in your body because that is what your splenic energy is all about. It's all about your survival instincts. And this is why it's so beautifully linked to your immunity to keep you strong and healthy and vibrant and alive. And what do you do in order to do that? You use your senses. This is one of the, almost like the most prehistoric energies, that sense of survival. When we were all cavemen in the prehistoric ages, we would sense whether the weather was changing, we would smell to see if something was good for us to eat or not. We would use our eyes to see all of these things, touch all of our senses for exactly what we used to keep us alive before Google and the world told us what we needed and Instagram told us what to eat. So this is about bringing this real sense to your true sense of survival. The energy expression of the spleen is your instincts, its impulse. These incredible splenic hits of knowing. And inspirational intuition is. I always like to explain it when I'm doing people's human design readings. It's like these whispers. It's like these whispers and these senses of real knowing, of flashes of knowing that you might not necessarily be able to explain to anybody else, but you just know. You just know. And ultimately it is about survival and your health. It's knowing that you don't go down a dark alley in the middle of the night because it just smells bad and you can't see anything. So your instincts say you don't walk down that alleyway because it's not good for me, I might not come out alive. It's that, it's when you stand on the edge of a cliff and you think, can I jump or not? It's this knowing that if I jump off that I will die or I will jump off that and I will have a lot of fun. It's that just slight difference of knowing what's good for you and what's not and trusting yourself and your instincts. It's using all of those senses for, for that prehistoric survival mechanism. Now it's going to show up very, very differently in our day to day life than it did in prehistoric times when this was really founded to keep us alive and safe. And it's going to show up as this push and this pull. And it's about really understanding where we've been conditioned, where we've taken on the fears of everybody else and actually what really is our own fear. I have an open spleen in my human design, so understanding this has been so instrumental for me. One of the most interesting facts that I have ever heard about fears and you may or may not know this is that we are only ever born with two fears, the fear of loud noises and the fear of falling. All of the other fears that you.
A
May feel that you have are actually taken on through conditioning.
B
Often we take on the fears of our parents or society, and it's really knowing that what is true for us and what is a true fear for us and what are we taking on from somebody else? Is this practicing of this discernment you may have heard me talk about before about squeezing the sponges of our energy centers, and it's actually just about squeezing all of that out and just saying, is that my fear or somebody else's? Is that my fear? When I talk about this push and the pull of our spleen, it's the. The knowing and bringing this awareness to your spleen that's going to help you recognize that impulsive action of I want to do that. I know I want to do that. I know I want to go there. But then fear coming in, almost like the sting of the scorpion's tail to stop you. It's like, I want to go, but no pull back. So that's what I mean by that pull me push you feeling in that sensation of I want to go, but no fears coming in. And that could be one of your own real, true fears, or it could be a fear that you've brought on by somebody else. I thought that these podcasts were going to be really short. I said to Misha, my gorgeous podcast manager, and I said that these are just going to be small mini bites of. Of pods. And ultimately they've become more than that. And I. I'm not going to apologize because I've loved recording them and I think everyone's getting so much out of them. But I think a prime example. I'd love to share of a story behind this one. And I'm going to use my. My throat chakra gate of the storytelling. But you may have seen on. On. On social media recently that I recently did a bungee jump. And I have been terrified of heights all of my life. As a small child, I wouldn't go upstairs in the middle of the department store. I would sit on my bottom and cry my way to the top because I was so scared of heights. I'm still scared of heights. And we were skiing recently, and my youngest son said to me, said, mummy, wow, look at that. Look at that bungee jump. Look at that bungee jump.
A
Can we do it?
B
And I was like, absolutely not. And I said, wills, I will not be Able to watch you, I will feel sick. I can't do it. It terrifies me. The thought of you doing that would. I would die. I couldn't do it. He was like, are there any circumstances, Mummy, that you would do that? And I was like, well, if your life depended on it, then I would do it. Obviously, a couple of days go past and we're back there again, and it's this beautiful sunny day and the bungee jump is open. And Will said, mum, I really, really want to do it. And I said, okay, let's go and have a look. We went and had a look, and he had his name put down. And the guy said, look, you've got plenty of time. You can ski back down and come back up. So we skied down and as a family, we came back up on the chairlift. And James, my husband, just turned to me, goes, do you know how of all of us, Ali, I thought you'd be the one who was going to do this. I was like, what are you talking about? I'm terrified of heights. You know I'm terrified of heights. He said, yes, but you talk to people about fear and having courage all the time. I was like, oh, you bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep. And so we got to the top and I said, look, do you know what? If I'm going to do this, and I will do this, we're all going to do it. And we put our names down and they said, mum, you'll have to go last because you. You've got the best camera and you can video us all. And I just kept thinking, oh, my God, I'm terrified. I'm going to be sick. I'm going to faint, my legs are going to give way. And I was like, you know what? I'm just telling myself I'm frightened because I've been frightened all my life. And I use one of my favorite questions that a wonderful healer and therapist said to me once. She said, who would you be without that thought? And I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna tell myself I'm not frightened as a belief. I've been telling myself for nearly 50 years, I'm not frightened. This is going to be amazing. This is going to be so much fun. This is going to be amazing. It's going to be. We're going to be telling this story forever. I'm going to be telling the story on my podcast. And so I just watched the boys and I cheered them, and I just. Anytime that little fear came and said, you're terrified. You're not going to do this. You're fine to fight. So I was like, no, this is going to be so much fun. And as I stood at the top and I looked over the edge and.
A
I was just like, oh, my God.
B
I could feel my whole body going into shock. And I was like, no, I can do this. I can do this. This is going to be so much fun. This is going to be so much fun. I'm just going to shush and plop. And I did. And yes, it was terrifying, but I did it anyway. And this is a prime example of working with our spleen in a really, really healthy way. It's knowing that you want to do it and walking with your fears and being courageous, because that's what courage is. It's not about being fearless. It's about being able to walk with your fears. And this sensation, I got to the bottom and the boys were cheering me on, and it was just magnificent. And we have never all felt so alive because we did this. We did life, and we walk with our fears. And it was just this sensation of a really beautiful story. To explain what I mean by having a healthy spleen, it's that feeling of aliveness. It's not being held back by your fear, but it's not being overly impulsive. It's just like there's nothing more, is there, than doing something slightly terrifying that makes you feel that when you've done it, you're so freaking alive. So this is a healthy spleen. It's about knowing that you can walk with your fears and knowing that your fears are just protectors. Now in human design, when I talk to people about their human design and their spleen, all of the human design gates, which are really just valves of how energies move through each of your different chakras and how they flow to the next chakra when they're activated. There are seven valves or gates in your spleen. And between James and I, we have pretty much all of them covered. Every single fear that there could be, we have them. But bringing awareness to these fears has enabled us to expand ourselves and just recognize them for what fears are. And again, when I talk to people about their human design, this is how I explain fears. Do you remember the Flintstones? I don't know whether you were as old as me or not, but I remember the cartoon of the Flintstones. And they used to get in their car, Fred and Wilma. And then they used to have the kids in the back whose names I can't remember, But I do remember Barney Rubble for some reason. But the kids would hop in the back. And do you remember the cars in the. In the Flintstones? They didn't have wheels. They ran with their feet. This is what it feels like. You are either Fred or Wilmer in the front seat running forward, and then suddenly these little kids get in the back seat. These are your fears. And they're frightened, and they are terrified, and they literally just put their feet on the ground. And you're not moving. You are stuck because you. Even though as much as you're trying to move forward because you want to go somewhere, you've got these little fear friends in your back seat that are sticking the feet in the ground to stop you. And this is where we have that push me, pull you effect as you're not going anywhere and you're stuck, and it's frustrating. And what I would say here, and what I do say is that you just turn around and you face your fears. You face your fears in the backseat and say, come on, come on, kids, tell me what's going on. Why are you making such a racket? What are you frightened of? Tell me. Your fears are just the protectors. They're keeping you safe. They create such an important part of our lives. It's not about letting them hold you back. It's about giving them a voice, is about saying, let me hear what you've got to say. And you work with them because they often have a really important message. This is practicing discernment. And it's about making friends with them and saying, okay, I've got you. You're going to be okay. We're going to the beach. You've got nothing to fear. It's going to be okay. There's going to be no jellyfish in the sea. I've got you. And if there is, we'll know what we're going to do. So it's about allowing those fears to have a voice and not let them limit you, make friends with them. You know, there are seven fear gates in the human design, and knowing mine was so instrumental, I've got five of them. So I've got pretty much all of these fears. And now when I read that in black and white, I was just like, oh, my goodness. These are the echoes of my fears that have played with me throughout my whole life. The fear of failure, the fear of never being good enough, the fear of being judged, the fear of the past repeating itself. All of these different fears. It's just like, oh, they're Just that every time. What do they say? Another level, another devil. It's just the same fears, the same echoes are going to be there every single time.
A
Time.
B
And it's about making friends with them, saying, oh, hello, you, my old friend. Come on, let's have her sit down and have a cup of tea. Tell me what you think and I'll tell you how I'm going to look after you and then we'll go again. This is about working with your fears. I've gone on a whole rampage there about fears. So let's move on back to our splenic chakra, shall we? So, okay, what is a healthy spleen, then? Healthy energy, when it comes to our spleen is this beautiful balance. And I know I don't use that word lightly because sometimes it doesn't agree with me, but in this case, we're going to use balance or equilibrium. It's this beautiful flow of intuition and expansion. But considered, it's really in consideration of rather than dangerous impulses. It's considered risk or mitigated risk. It's doing your due diligence, shall we say that look, that's such an old phrase from my. My management consultancy days. Do your due diligence invite fears to the lunch? It's. And I'm going to swear now, I'm sorry, but it's about saying it and let's do it a little bit like I did on the bungee jump. It's just like, it's that as long as it doesn't kill us. And I was so tied to lots and lots of ropes on that bungee. It was like, as long as it doesn't kill us, as long as there's no risk of death, let's do it. As long as there's no risk of certain death, let's go for it. Because there's nothing more than running with your fears and jumping. Jumping off the edge of a cliff and screaming as you go down. You know, you've been there, you've done that as a child with world abandon. It is about this expansion with your fears that it's courage embodied. It's the ability to read situations but from a balanced point of view that gives you that sense of confidence. It's not just about staying alive, it's about being alive. And this is what your spleen can help you do. Just like I shared in that fear of the bungee jump. An unhealthy splenic energy is when you are literally letting your fears rule roost. They are limiting you. They're holding you back. They're keeping you stuck in the same position. And yet you are so frustrated and angry because you cannot move and you're so frightened and you're terrified and you're rooted to the spot for something that's in your head. It's when you're letting your thoughts and your beliefs rule you. I could have allowed that belief of I'm terrified of heights that I've had for my whole life stop me. But I didn't. I said, you know what?
A
I'm going to face it head on.
B
And we're going to go, we're going to be okay a little bit like I did with Sarah when we were climbing that mountain without a map. It was like we were terrified of the heights, but we did it anyway. And we tell that story for the rest of our lives. How we hung off the edge of the concha, just like we're going to tell the story of how we threw ourselves off a bungee jump off the edge of a mountain. You know, an unhealthy spleen is catastrophizing. It's thinking about what if? All of the things that can go wrong, but without mitigating them and putting a plan in place and letting that stop you. It's letting those stories, those past situations, your thoughts, your beliefs about what other people might think hold you back. And those are the drivers that sending you into reverse or taking you deeper into where you are. It's then living with regret because you did not listen to your splenic voice. You didn't listen to those whispers. You didn't allow yourself to come fully alive because you've been so conditioned into a way of thinking and living, whether that's been your own thought or your own belief or a situation that you're projecting back into the future. Similarly, it could be the opposite. It could be overly impulsive. That is verging on danger. People often say, I want to be fearless, but do you really? Because that's not being courageous. If you say you have no fears, that's not being courageous. Because courage is walking with your fears. It's about being with your fears. It's feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Good old Susan Jeffers and her amazing book is about being reckless. And that is not healthy either for you to stay alive. I keep getting the Bee Gee song in my head. Staying alive, staying alive. Yes, your spleen is here to help you stay alive, but it's not here to keep you stuck. So what are the colours and the crystals? Then again, there's nothing in any book to say what you would work with, with your spleen. So this is an intuitive one again for me, a little bit like the G centre. And again, I seem to be holding my snowflake crystal and I love that because the, the snowflake obsidian is all about balance. And we've been talking about the balance of intuition and in your spleen coupled with that considered risk. So it's this balance of, of knowing that you can go and when to stop. It is that beautiful balance of spiritual growth as well. It's about understanding this. It's about being deeply aware of, of both sides of your spleen and how they are driving you and making you behave. And if you want to change, you can. I've also instinctively picked black obsidian and black tourmaline. Both of these are beautiful crystals that I worked with and have worked with and continue to work with, particularly around protection, keeping me safe. I always, always, always, always take both of these stones whenever I'm traveling or going on a plane to keep us safe or whenever I'm journeying. Those two will always be in my handbag or in a pocket. Black tourmaline is particularly good for anxiety, and I worked a lot with that one when I first started working with crystals and chakras and my human design when I had PTSD and depression from anxiety. Black tourmaline was beautiful. Black obsidian, again, is a really beautiful protective stone, keeping dark forces at bay. So those are the crystals that I'm choosing to work with when I work with my spleen. What about food? So again, I was thinking about this and it's really about using your senses. So I think it's about anything that's really, really good for you, to keep you alive, to keep you healthy. Dare I say it, it's about eating a balanced diet. I don't like the word balance, don't like the word balanced, but let's go with it anyway. What I mean by that is not being overly clean or overly dirty, should we say, in terms of your diet, it's about eating good nutrition that's good for your body. Whenever I work with anybody on their health, I'm a health coach also well trained in health and nutrition. And I always say, just eat more whole foods than you do processed foods. Drink more water and herbal teas than you do alcohol, coffee and caffeine. You know, move more than you do sit. And I would love to say sleep more, but that's not good either. So sleep and be alive. It's just about creating your own sense of balance of what feels good for you that brings you alive. I think as well, we're going to work with the element of earth for the spleen. So I think anything that has grown in the earth. There's a great phrase when it comes to food. It's like if it's made in a plant, it's not a plant. Eat more plants than things that are created in a plant. So we're going to go with the earth element for this. Something else I thought I would bring to the table is I love things like palo santo and sage. A lot of people do that to cleanse energies and protect. I don't tend to burn things in my house. I think my family would think I was even more witchy than I really am. So I don't. But there are some beautiful sprays that you can use, and I get them from a local shop here in Ripon. And she creates these beautiful sprays. It looks like I'm just spritzing the air. So I use that to protect and cleanse the energies in our home when it comes to spleen. Shall we clear our spleen? I feel like I've talked an awful lot about the spleen and told you a lot of stories. So are you ready to get healthy?
A
If it's safe for you to do so? Take a moment and sit down or lie down, however you want to do this and close your eyes. You can take a deep breath in and breathe out. Place your hand on your right hip and start to sense and connect with your spleen, Your spleenic senses of intuition and knowing. Take a deep breath in again and breathe out and relax here.
B
Relax.
A
Knowing it's absolutely safe for you to do so. Breathing in again and breathing out. And as you breathe out deeply, connect to that area of your body which is keeping you alive, which is keeping you safe. Bring a deep sense of connection to your spleen. Let's take another deep breath here and breathe out. Bring some awareness to this area of your body, the energy of your spleen. Is it feeling heavy? Is it feeling hard? Are you feeling like you're rooted and anchored to where you are in your life, in your situation. Feeling like you can't move, that you are stuck, that you are deeply rooted to the earth, from your spleen to the earth. This connection, almost like a tree trunk holding you stuck and steady, or connected to the earth deeply through your root, you feel it, this hard connection keeping you stuck. Need to breathe. Breathe through your spleen. Breathe through that area. Breathe again. Breathe deeper into this area. Of your spleen. I want you to start really breathing life. Breathe life into your spleen. Bring the sense of aliveness, inspire. Breathe. The word inspire actually means to breathe life into. And what we want to do is to inspire your life by breathing life through your spleen. And do that now. Keep breathing. Breathe deeply, feeling this connection of your spleen that is rooted to the earth. And every time you breathe, I want you to feel a sense of softening. The energies in this area are starting to soften and they're starting to loosen the roots growing from your spleen and into the earth. Start to feel these roots flexing.
B
Almost like fingers.
A
Can you feel them moving? Start to let them grow and feel the earth through your spleen. Can you feel them, that they're starting to grow and to expand? Let these roots that are growing out from your spleen start to go wider and wider and deeper and deeper into the earth that's surrounding you.
B
Almost feel like there's this root system.
A
Growing deeper and wider and growing and deeper and wider. And you're feeling more and more connected.
B
But safe rather than rooted.
A
You're just feeling safe. You're feeling grounded, you're feeling stable. You're not fearing the darkness. You're just feeling into the earth. And if you. You can smell the earth and the.
B
Soil, it's the earth and the soil.
A
That'S keeping you alive and healthy and growing and grounded. I want you to take a deep sigh here. It's okay. It's okay. You're safe. And as we're deeply rooted through our spleen to the earth, I would love for you now to look upwards. Now that you're feeling this sense of security and stability. Look upwards, you're safe. Look up to the sky. You've got the sense of stability now. And now that you've got the sense of stability, you're free to grow. I'd love for you now to feel this other side of the your spleen, this beautiful energy of growth, of expansion, of lifting. Start to feel yourself growing through the other side of your spleen. We've deeply rooted into the earth, and now we're going to go deep, higher, into the sky. Recognize that the roots that are growing down are also now growing upwards. And actually, they're not roots, they're these beautiful branches, the branches that are creating a canopy deep above you, up into the sky. Branches of the trees and the leaves and the light, and they're growing higher and higher and higher. Just as you've grown deep, you're going to grow high High, high, high above you. Can you feel it? Can you sense it? This level of freedom. You can feel the wind floating through your branches of your trees and your leaves. This is aliveness.
B
And you're able to feel this aliveness.
A
And this air because you're so deeply rooted and you're so grounded. This beautiful balance of connection and freedom. This beautiful connection or growth and expansion and wholeness. What you have here is your beautiful, magical tree. A beautiful, magical tree that you can connect to at any point in time. It's going to help you feel earthed and grounded, but at the same time remind you that you can expand and you can grow into the unknown and that you can feel free and that you can feel alive.
B
You can come and connect with your.
A
Tree through your spleen at any point in time and feel deeply connected and whole. You can wrap your arms around this tree and know that you are safe and know that you are free. Know that you are grounded. At the same time, you can reach for the stars and you can reach for the sky. You can do both at time, the same, same time. It's not one or the other. It's this beautiful ebb and flow of ying and Yang, of connection and growth and solidarity and freedom. It's both. It's the push, it's the pull, it's the ebbs and the flows of life that is going to keep you feeling so beautifully alive. As we breathe this energy in through our spleen as we go down, as we lift higher, as we go down and we lift higher. This beautiful ebb and flow of your spleen. Know that your spleen is always going to keep you safe. You can trust that your spleen will always keep you alive and healthy and vibrant. And you can trust in your spleen. It is always going to invite you to experience life to the full in its wholeness. Wrap your arms around the tree that you've just created through your spleen. And allow the feelings of aliveness, of health and vitality that the earth is giving you. And feel the air flowing through your branches. The air to keep you breathing, that keeps you alive. Breathe deeply here and let it go. Keep breathing. Your spleen is now perfectly in sync. It's activated for the adventures of life. And you can repeat these mantras with me. I'm feeling so alive right now. I trust in my splenic intuition. It will always be there to keep me safe and to keep me alive. I listen to the voices of my fears and the whispers of my splenic intuition. I am brave and courageous. I am healthy and I am thriving. I trust in my instincts. They are so sharp and they are always leading me the way. I am safe, I am protected. I am whole and I am free. Keep breathing. Know that you always have your beautiful, magical tree within you. But if you wish to, you can go and find a tree outside in the world. I have one in my garden. She's a beautiful redwood tree and I connect with her daily. I'll send you a photo. I hope you've enjoyed today's beautiful meditation and guided meditation to help you connect with your spleen. And I will be back tomorrow with our final session in this energy quest. We're going to the Root. Lots of love.

Episode: The Joy of 'Expanding Through Fear' (Spleen Chakra)
Date: April 28, 2025
Host: Ali Mortimer, Life Consultant & Joy Coach
In this uplifting episode, Ali Mortimer delves into the theme of expanding through fear by exploring the Spleen Chakra, an energy center focused on survival instincts, intuition, and the balance between courage and caution. Drawing from her personal experiences and teachings from Human Design, Ali provides practical advice on recognizing, understanding, and working with our fears—showing how courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to move forward with it. She concludes with a powerful guided meditation to help listeners connect with and balance their splenic energy.

Ali leads a visualization connecting to the spleen as both root and branch—grounding into the earth and expanding into the sky:
Ali’s practical note: Find a tree in your daily life to connect with—nature serves as a living symbolism of grounding and expansion.
