You're a nosy. You want the full sitch? Come to Pop Culture Thursday. Hello and welcome to the J Train Podcast. This is J Train Jared Freed coming to you live from Manhattan, New York. That's right, every Thursday. It is a pop up Culture Thursday where I go to Page Six and I read some headlines and I riff. We read and riff. That's what we do. I read the articles and if you have an article that you want me to read here on Pop Culture Thursday, I would love that I, I have one from you, the listener. All you do is send it to j train podcastmail.com or you can DM it to us at J Train Podcast. I would love to hear from you and hear a pop culture story that you're like, hey, J, read the headline and riff. Do this one. Here's one. And it's from a listener. Olivia Rodrigo pays for her band and crew to see therapists while on tour, says her guitarist, Daisy Spencer. I, I have questions about this. This kind of goes into the whole, like, we're open about talking therapy and then sometimes it goes over the line that I don't know if you're allowed to say it's over the line. Like, when I hear this whole thing of like, all men should be in therapy, like, and it's like this big tough talk, I kind of get annoyed by that. To me, that's like, it's, it's a little bit rude to tell someone they should go seek treatment now. It's been nice for me. Again, it's all in how you say it. It's been nice for me. I think it's nice for people to have an outlet. Like, that's another thing when your boss, Olivia Rodrigo here, like, you know, I, I need to read more. But like, my first, my first thought is, like, is it could be good? Like, this is like how sci fi movies start. They start with, hey, we created this new technology and it helps people. And then the one way it's evil kind of rears its ugly head. So, like, Olivia Rodriguez. Olivia, Olivia Rodrigo paying for therapy for the band. That's nice. When it gets into the therapist going, hey, Olivia, you might want to talk to the drummer. They're having a tough time lately. Like, where does it end? Like, is it in their contract? Here's some money that can only be used towards a therapist. Like, is it? Here's a therapy bonus. Like, I get a, A when I go on the road. And I'm on the road right now, I'm going to be in Stamford Connecticut this weekend. If you know anyone in Stanford, if you westchester anywhere in Connecticut, come out to the show. It's a fun club. It's New York comedy club in Stamford, Connecticut. Assemble the group chat. One of the shows is already sold out. I'm in Bloomington, Indiana next week and then Brea, California. So those are my dates. But I got tons of dates. If you're in a city right now, I'm coming to somewhere close to you. So go to jared free.com for tickets. So Olivia Rodrigo, like when I go on the road, they go, okay, we're going to pay you this much based on ticket sales. That's where my payment comes from. And then they go, and we're going to give you an amount of money to cover your travel. The money that I get for travel's flat. Now, if so, let's say it's 500 bucks if I can fly to Stanford. If I can get to Stanford, Connecticut for under $500. Look at that. I make 200 bucks on top of what I'm making for the weekend. So is it that where Olivia's like, here's your therapy stipend and do with it what you may. Olivia Rodriguez touring. A touring guitarist, Daisy Spencer has revealed that the singer pays for her band and crew to have access to free therapy both on and off tour. I'm still not comfortable with my boss having control, like, having it. Like, is there a therapist that's just next to the stage? And you're like, hey, we're gonna go on soon. Let me stop and just talk about my dad for a quick minute. Spencer, 31, spoke about her experience working with the Grammy winner 22 on the Stage Left podcast on June 30 on the Guts World Tour. Olivia and our tour manager, Marty Holm, home hum made accessible and free therapy for all the touring personnel. So maybe she has a therapist just on the staff. I've never had anything like that. Spencer revealed. And that reignited the importance of therapy to me because I had just kind of fallen off for so long and then suddenly I had this free resource of incredible therapists and I used the crap and I utilized the crap out of that. Here's the thing that I will say is really nice about. Again, I'm not against this, but I'm not for where this could go again. I'm the crazy scientist who's like, don't do it. They'll take over your iPhones and release all your information. I'm not trying to be that guy. If there's like a therapy room in the same way there would be like a massage, a masseuse and there would be a craft services with snacks. Then I, I get it. I. Because also when you go on the road, the one thing about traveling around the country, it is very difficult to like get the odds and ends of your life done. Like making the appointments. You have to be really on that. That's why a lot of like people who tour like they lose their health gets really bad. When, you know, you get home, all you want to do is relax and not open your bills and not. And again, most people have that. But I think the consistency of life of like a 9 to 5 is just different. That you go, oh, my doctor's appointment is on Friday. And it's like, hey, when can you go to the doctors two months from now? Oh, we're not making appointments for that. You always run into something. She continued, Honestly, that was one of the coolest things that has ever happened on tour. Like, seriously, one of the best things you can give to people is accessible free therapy because it can get kind of expensive. Spencer then detailed how having access to free therapy has impacted her life offstage. I'm doing baby. I'm doing baby Daisy a good justice of finally getting her head Baby Daisy story. I mean the way she says the sentence is like very therapy coded. I'm doing baby Daisy a good justice of finally getting to hear baby Daisy's story of what they think is going we're going through when I was younger and everything. I mean. So you're doing therapy? Yeah. Baby Daisy is talking to grown up Daisy and they're getting to know each other. Oh, cool. Sounds like it's going well. So that's a story from a listener. We do have sponsors. And then I'll go to Page Six. Hero bread. It's summertime. Eat the burger without feeling bad about it. Herobred has you covered for all your barbecue taco and sandwich needs. Each serving of Hero's classic burger and hot Dog Buns has 0 grams of net carbs, 0 grams of sugar, 11 grams of protein, 22 grams of fiber. That means you can enjoy all of your summer favorites and still hit your health goals. What's even better is that it's soft, fluffy and tastes just like the bread you're used to. I can attest to that. Hero bread is delicious. It tastes just as good as any other bread you're going to have. Plus it has the added element of 11, 11 grams of protein, 22 grams of fiber. So you want more fiber because it's going to keep you fuller longer. If I gave you the choice between two buns that taste exactly the same and I was like, this one is just your regular bun and this one has extra fiber. You're going to take the extra fiber one, so why not get on, get involved with the Arrow bread? I'm going to give you some free money. It is delicious. They got bagels, they got tortillas. They have a whole line of products. So whatever bread you enjoy all anything that makes you go, oh, can I have it? Herobred is offering 10, 10, 10% off your order. Go to HERO CO. Use code Jtrain at checkout. That's Jtrain. H E R O CO. I'm coming to you from New York City. I'm doing a couple shows here before I head to Stamford, Connecticut. As you know, we go to page six. We read the headlines, we riff on the articles. I'm opening up page six right now. And how about this? Look at this. This is like created in a lab. I mean, this Bezos wedding is going to be talked about for the next year. Tom Brady and Sophia Vergara having summer romance in Spain after he asked to sit next to her on star packed Voyage. I have to say, if you were like, name five celebrities that you'd want to be introduced to in a romantic setting. Sofia Vergara is in that five. Like off the top of the head five. Like, who could blame Tom Brady? You're at the wedding, which is like kind of a freebie for like, hey, let's talk and be flirty. It's not a date, but you're in dating clothing. You're at an event. It's perfect. Tom Brady and Sofia Vergara are enjoying the single life with each other. The retired NFL star and the bombshell Modern Family actress have been spending time together in Ibiza. I'm sorry. Ibiza, Spain. And a source described the situation of Page Six as a summer romance. See, that to me is a PR person who was told to get in front of it. They're saying, hey, we kind of want to go out. We're looking to hook up. Let's, let's, let's, let's start it. They're two attractive people who want to hook up and they don't want to hear from you and I. They don't want to hear, are they? Aren't they? Is it love? No, it's two people who are good looking and want to have sex and Ibiza without us kids being like, what's going on? So they get a PR agent to call Page Six and go, hey, hey, they're doing a summer romance. Write the article, here's a picture. And now we don't ask any questions. It's smart PR move. It is a smart PR move. You get in front of it, you let people know. Summer romance, that's basically like, we don't have to, will they, Won't they know that? We all get that. We've seen Greece, we get it. When we don't, we don't get it. We've never gone to Europe. We've never gone to a billionaire's wedding. We've never been like, hey, sit me next to the most beautiful woman of all time and then gone to Ibiza with them and just fucked for a week. But when we hear summer romance, okay, we'll back off. Us losers will back off. It all started about a week ago on the Luminara super yacht launched by the Ritz Carlton yacht. Oh, my God. Wait till I tell my brother. My brother and his wife were on one of their yachts. They did the Ritz Carlton cruise. And then the next week, all the influencers and celebrities were on the boat. They missed it with a list. Guests including Martha Stewart, Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, Kate Hudson, Colman Domingo, and Flirtatious and the Flirtatious duo, among others. Again, from that list, I'm asking to be set next to Sofia Vergara. I want to be next her at the pool. And I have to ask. Brady's kids aren't like, they're not like 30. Like, they're around this summer. Like, where are they? Like, does he ever, like, talk to them? Like, I gotta say, Tom Brady, the dad, seemingly not around that much. Not really seemingly. Like, I'm. I'm saying, like, listen, this is something that my friend Juliet Lippman kind of like opened my eyes to. The idea that the way he kind of left Bridget Moynihan was a hole in my story for how amazing Tom Brady is. And he does seem amazing. He is a hero of mine. But the dad stuff, he's. I don't know. Yeah, he was a married guy to Giselle. I just assumed he was this married guy and hung out. It does seem like he's gone Divorce dad route. Let's do this one. You know, anytime I see an article about the Osbornes. It kind of like brings me back to my, like, my. And they were kind of the first reality show, the docu series. But, like, I was into it. We were all watching it. It brings me back. Ozzy Osbourne fans speculate which greedy band Sharon disinvited from Black Sabbath farewell concert. I mean, the fact that Ozzy Osbourne is still alive. Like, the initial thing for that show was like, is this guy, like, with it? And his wife, who was so with it. Sharon, like, whenever I hear the Oswald. Sharon. Sharon, like, he looked bad then. When does he look like now? She still looks fantastic. After Shar. After Sharon Osborne revealed that she had disinvited a band. Here's the genius of Sharon Osborne who was even on that show. The whole thing was, she's the reason Ozzy Osbourne is Ozzy Osbourne. The whole premise of that show was, hey, you know Ozzy Osbourne, but you don't know the wife who was behind it all. And this kind of speaks to that. Her revealing she had disinvited a band from Ozzy Osbourne's Black Sabbath farewell concert is her churning the narrative, churning the news. She is a PR genius. Because Ozzy Osbourne, we literally can barely walk for like 30 years and we're still talking about it. Fans took to social media to speculate which one it was. My guess is Motley Crue, wrote one user via Reddit, I'm thinking Kiss the most greedy band on the planet. A second person claimed, I don't like that you call Kiss the most greedy band of the planet. Planet. I'm assuming you're not a fan of the Jews, because Kiss is like the most Jewish band. So I don't know. I don't Not. I'm not about that. Also, it's on the Internet, famously a negative place for Jews. I pondered on this as well. For there's many bands that it could be. The first that struck me was Mega Death due to the fact that the other bands of the Big Four were there and the band is doing an. Doing up a new album. A third fan hypothesized, what is that? What is that? Our. Our. Our. Our Reddit laureate. Our poet laureate. Like, what a sentence from a Reddit? I pondered it on this as well. As I sat here eating my grilled cheese and cereal that my mom put together for me at my computer, I pondered this as well. You know, as I put on my sweatpants to go sit at my computer and go type on Reddit, I pondered this. I'm going to say Foo Fighters Motley Crew or Lynn Business Kit. A the fourth person commented. So do we have an answer? Last weekend, Ozzy performed his final show with Black Sabbath. I mean, I didn't know he was still performing. He's performing in a chair. So at that point, it's time. If you can't I. He's performing in a chair. But the chair is awesome. It's a throne with a big skull above it. A bat skull because he ate a bat. This guy has been dining out on that bat story for literally 50 years. That's, that's a good would, would you. Okay, you get, you get the money and fame of Ozzy. I don't know. Fame, you become Ozzy Osbourne. You get the wealth of Ozzy Osbourne, but you got to bite one head of a bat. Are you doing it? Are you doing it? Because this guy bit one bad head. The music's good. The music's good, but he is still in the public eye. He is still recognizable to the world. You have to eat one bad head. Do you do it to have Ozzy's life and lifestyle? I don't know. Sharon. Okay. I'm always gonna click on a Jessica Simpson story. It hits me in the nostalgia, kind of like, feels new. And she was married to a Needham High graduate, Eric Johnson. So this is a little bit of sad news for me as a Needham High grad myself, newly Single Jessica Simpson, Florida Launce 100 pound weight loss in fiery red bikini. I don't think Jessica Simpson had 100 pounds to lose. She was kind of maligned as this, like, plus size, but she was never really plus size. Like, I, I, I've always been attracted to Jessica Simpson. So to say she lost a hundred pounds from when, when she had a baby. Like, this is kind of a crazy headline. Jessica Simpson appears to be showing estranged husband Eric Johnson what he's missing. I hate that narrative. I hate that, the idea that she loses 100 pounds and now her husband of like 25 years that she got a divorce from, he's like, oh, no. Oh my God. She's a new woman. He doesn't give a shit. She's a billionaire. They had to probably split up her fortune. He's probably sitting in his own mansion with another hot broad. I, I don't think, like, it's a bad narrative. The newly single rocked the newly single singer rocked a fiery red bikini for a Mary Self mirror selfie she shared via her Instagram stories Friday. Simpson, who lost nearly £100 just a few years ago. When did she lose £100? I mean, to me she's looked like this forever styled her look with a green button down with sunglasses as a navy USA hat set on a nearby bathroom sink. I'm looking at the picture. She looks amazing. I can't really see her face. Huge glasses. Yeah, she's. She looks great. The 44 year old added Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker song and American Girl as a soundtrack for the image, which was posted on the 4th of July. Okay, so then they show a picture. Simpson's new photo comes several years after she opened up about struggling with her weight in her 2020 memoir, Open Book. Yeah, she talked a lot about this and, and I think she was kind of put in a bad position. Like in the book, Simpson shared that her body image issues started at age 17 when music producer Tommy Mottola told her she needed to lose £15. And now I'm looking at a picture of the. Before she was hot then. I mean, I'm looking at the hot before picture and then they show her pregnant. What do you. I just think the hundred pounds thing is like actually not right at the time. The five foot three. She's five foot three in the picture. She looks like she could be six foot the way her body looks. Five foot three at the time. The five foot three songstress weighed 118 pounds. Turned to diet pills. Source told Page Six in January. The singer's new body, which came as a result of changing her diet, has unleashed a whole new side of her personality. Suddenly she feels 21 again. I've read this article here. I think she looks great. Uh, I'm a Jessica Simpson fan. I think this story is kind of, kind of a BS one. Kelly Clarkson has been in the news because she. She has a show that's moderately successful because there's just not a lot of daytime shows and she has one of them. I don't know if it's a good show. I'm sure it has fans. But then she wants to leave the show. She wants nothing to do with it. And it's a successful show. The reason there's been articles is because people just generally don't leave successful shows. Kelly Clarkson's hidden battles contributed to abrupt show cancellation relations. She's on thin ice. Kelly Clarkson canceled her Las Vegas residency minutes before showtime on July 4th over vocal issues. Yeah, there's something going on. But she also faces hidden battle. Sources tell Page Six now this is one of those articles. You wonder where it came from because sometimes there's page Six articles. I don't. I know this to be true. This are placed there by, like, the producers to, like, send a message to the talent, the singer and te. Because, like, how would we know who's telling them about hidden battles? And it's pretty vague. So it's like. It's vague enough that we get a little taste, but she gets the full, like, message. The singer TV host aed the opening night of her studio sessions residency at the coliseum at Caesar's palace just 90 minutes before showtime last Friday. Devastating fans. I mean, that is to Cancel A show 90 minutes before the show. As a ticket buyer, I would need you to come out and be like, I'm. I'm sorry. You can hear my voice. Like, I need a little acting. I need a little bit of you going. I'm sick. I don't think I'm gonna make it tonight, Mom. I can't go to school. Like, I need a little bit of an act because, again, this isn't the theater in outside, you know, to me, it's not a theater in Indianapolis. Indianapolis, people, 90 minutes. That's about how far away you know, you'd get people that drive for a couple hours because they gotta see Kelly Clarkson. Fine. But 90 minutes before showtime, you send a text to every one of your ticket buyers in Indianapolis. You're kind of getting people haven't left the house yet. When you do this in Vegas, where people made a trip maybe specifically for you and your concert, they were like, we'll do the Kelly Clarkson concert. We'll do a nice dinner, we'll stay at a nice hotel, and then you cancel. That's bullshit. I need you to come on stage and do an act. I need. I don't care if there's no voice. I'm sorry. As you can hear. Like, I need you to sound like one of those cigarette smokers who put the thing up to their neck. If you're going to cancel 90 minutes before the show when I've come to Vegas and put on, like, a nice outfit. Clarkson, 43, said she could not risk serious damage to her voice since, as one of Vegas insider told us, she belts out every single note. Yeah, this is her PR team. She's an incredibly powerful singer, but it takes a toll on her vocal cords, and she's come incredibly close to needing surgery before. This is her. I need. I need to hear how bad it is. She cannot rest. I get it. She can't risk damaging her chords further. She's on thin ice. I get it. But you gotta come out on stage or do a video message. Back in March, Clarkson missed 10 episodes of her NBC talk show with her spot being filled by guest hosts. Yeah, this was like a story and a lot of. A lot of people were wondering and, and honestly, I think there was one where like Simu Lou, Simu Leo or was like brought in, like, on the day he was just supposed to be a guest. Okay, we'll do one more about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey America sweethearts. And then I got to go do shows. I'm here in New York City. It's going to be a short, tight one today. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly spent fourth of July at exclusive resort in Montana. Now I've been to Big Sky Montana. I would describe Big Sky Montana as male boomer tulum. Like, if you tell your dad, hey, I'm thinking of going to Big Sky Montana, he will wet his pants. They can't not react. Do it. Tape his reaction. Hey, do you think I should go to Big Sky? He'll be like, they have golf and shooting and horses and they'll come their pants. So there's nothing more. America and like pleasing to the Swifty. Kind of like, you know, Travis Kelsey Swifty follower. This is a big deal to both husband and wife. So like the guy who's with his girlfriend in Nashville loves that they went there. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey reportedly enjoyed a little fireworks of their own on the fourth of July. The blank space singer and Kansas City chiefs tight end were spotted spending the holiday holiday weekend at the exclusive members only Yellowstone club in Big Sky Montana. According to De Moi, my good friend De Moi, I listen what I tell you. Big sky. That to me, that is like, that is catnip for the couple who met in high school who moved to a suburb outside of a midwest city that likes following Travis and Taylor news. Like they have literally put out a line of Travis and Taylor cocaine for the audience to slurp up with their nose. The Instagram account added in their most recent newsletter that Kelsey and Swift, both 35, have frequently spent time together at the luxury private resort. A rep for the singer did not immediately respond to Page six's request for comment. Yeah, no replacement. Not going to talk to you. The sighting comes after the love story hitmaker apparently skipped out on her iconic fourth of July party for a second year. She typically. Oh, yes, she's known for holding a party in on Watch Hill. She typically holds a lavish a list bash at her Watch Hill, Rhode island mansion. I have seen her mansion. There's a hotel near her mansion on Watch Hill. And a a hobby of mine is to look at how much it costs a night. It's called the Ocean House. Do yourself a favor, go look up the Ocean House and just look at it on Google. Go to Images. She lives like down the street from here. It is the most beautiful hotel you have ever seen in your entire life. It is like America personified. They just redid it. Go look at how much it is for a night. It is. You're like, who would spend this money? Who? And I can't believe again, like, maybe I'm naive to the amount of money people have, but like, I just look at it. It's the most beautiful place in the world. And Taylor Swift lives like down the street. So I the first comment on this article is I hate to say this and I will hate to see this. I think he is going to screw her over. He is going to end up being a total freaking time waste for her. Why would say, why would someone comment on this? They're in Big sky having a good time. Swift also ditched the highly anticipated soiree in 2024amid her historic eras tour. The singer and pro athlete who are snapped grabbing a low key lunch at JoJo's Bar in Chagrin Falls, Ohio ahead of the holiday are said to be relishing their downtime together. Yeah, let them be together. To me, like, I don't know what the story is like the Tom Brady, Sofia Vergara story. They need a story like that to get us away from them. But I don't think, I think she is so famous and so relatable at the same time that it's really weird that we don't regard her like Michael Jackson. Like she should be weirder. Well, pop culture Thursday we go every week. The promise is 20 minutes and we got over that today. I had to do a tight version cause I got shows tonight here in the city center for the Patreon. I'll be talking about coming back to Delray beach for the fourth. There also wasn't a lot of articles to be perfectly honest with you. You know, like, do you really want to hear about Kate Middleton and Prince William unexpectedly lose longtime trusted staffer? Like, did they die on the job? That's even sadder to me. You were a butler for the royal family and you just like, you didn't even get to retire. I. The Prince of. Oh, they didn't die. The Prince and Princess of Wales are unexpectedly losing their longtime trusted staffer, Natasha Archer after more than 15 years of working Together. That's a long time after Archer reportedly made the decision to leave Kensington Palace. What's the next step in that career? Was she their assistant? Oh, after Archer, or. Yeah, I guess you would do this. Archer reportedly made the decision to leave Kensington palace to set up her own private consultancy. Yeah, this is a job that gets you their longtime trusted staffer. What does a staffer do? The outlet reported that the Wales House household gave Archer their well wishes ahead of her new business venture. I mean, she'll make money on money on money. So every rich person is going to want to say, we work with someone who used to work with the royal family, but I don't know what she does. What's her consultant? What is she consulting on? Archer began her tenure in 2020, 2010 as a personal assistant to the royal couple, both 43. So she was their assistant to. So she'll probably start, like, staffing assistance, I would assume. She grew close to the Middleton and became her unofficial stylist. In 2014, Vanity Fair spoke to an insider about how Archers helped Middleton come out of her style shell. Initially, Kate was a reluctant fashion icon, but now she enjoys it. Tosh helped source some of the clothes. Oh, so she's going to become like a consultant to, like, women who want to be looked at like a royalty. She shops a lot for Kate online. I mean, this is the best PR she's ever gotten. And calls in hundreds of dresses for Kate to try on. She has persuaded Kate to take some more risks. Here's where she's going to make so much money. So many women. Men too. People want to look both fashionable and classy. And when you've dressed the royal family, the hemlines are shorter and Kate's really pushing the boat out of the fat boat out on the. In the fashion stakes again. This is what people want. I want to look like a princess who you kind of want to dress like. And this woman's beautiful. This is like, I would love to read her book. Seems Kate's way of thanking her for the loyalty. Before joining William and Middleton, Archer worked in the private office of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Gloucester. Archer is married to Getty Royal photographer Chris Jackson, with whom he shares. She shares two children. Good for her. How do you get in that world? All right, pop culture Thursday. Back next week. Boom.
