Nuçi's Space is a suicide prevention nonprofit based in Athens, GA. Our mission is to prevent suicide, with the primary focus being on the health and well-being of musicians. Since opening our doors in September of 2000, thousands of people have received therapy and psychiatry visits through Nuçi's Space. While it's impossible to say exactly how many lives have been saved so far, we continue our work with the knowledge that saving even one more life is worth it. The Nuçi's Space podcast is our way of sharing the countless stories of the wonderful people who pass through our doors with you all. Whether you are physically here or not, we hope you enjoy this opportunity to share in the very real community that exists in our Space. This is the first episode, but stay tuned as we plan to release a full season early this fall. Our first episode was recorded in June in honor of both Men's Health Month and Pride Month. We sat down with David Ferguson, a writer, musician, and gay man based here in Athens. David has been involved with Nuçi's Space for the last 16 years, playing in bands like Eli, Lonesome No More, the Go Figures, and Kompromat. Currently, he plays in Astral Summer. David is also a published journalist who has been featured on the editorial pages of the Guardian, at the Raw Story, and is a frequent contributor to the Bob Cesca show. This is the first of a series of podcasts in our #iamnucisspace stories. Stay tuned, as this episode is merely a preview of what's to come: the rest of the first season will be released this fall. Future episodes will feature a variety of compelling guests, including community members who have used our mental health services, Camp Amped alumni, musicians who have found a home in our space, and more. If you'd like to support this podcast or Nuçi's Space, please go to http://www.patreon.com/nucisspace and consider signing up to make a monthly contribution of $5 or $10. Every contribution goes towards furthering our mission of preventing suicide and destigmatizing mental illness treatment.
