Lindsay Chrisley
All right, guys, welcome to the Southern Tea. This is Lindsay and Katie, and we are so excited for our first episode.
Katie Harrell
Hey, guys. Oh, my gosh. This is so crazy.
Lindsay Chrisley
Oh, my God. It's so.
Katie Harrell
It's real.
Lindsay Chrisley
It's so funny setting up to, like, record with you since it's the first time. Like, have you even ever guest hosted on a podcast before?
Katie Harrell
Never. Like, I'm as new as you can be in this world.
Lindsay Chrisley
That is so funny because I didn't even think to tell you, like, how to do stuff. And all the calls that we've had for podcast stuff. I. I can't see you.
Katie Harrell
So.
Lindsay Chrisley
So it's just funny to me. I'm just, like, imagining your face and like, what it looks like.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, I'm like, what's happening? Okay. I've got a lot to learn, but we'll get there. We'll get there.
Lindsay Chrisley
I love it. So introduce yourself, Katie. And then I will introduce myself so that both of our audiences know each other.
Katie Harrell
Okay. Also, Katie Harrell, I'm sure a lot of you already know that. So I am originally from good old Sparkle City, Spartanburg, South Carolina, born and raised. And then I actually went to Clemson, graduated from Clemson, and then I was in corporate for, like, I think like six years. And then I always was obsessed with fashion bloggers, so I followed, like, literally all of them. And then one day I just woke up and I was like, you know what? I really want to do this. So took a leap and started it, and it just took off. Like, I had no clue it was going to take off. And then eventually, I think it was like, six months into a year, I realized that I was making pretty good money from it, and then actually finally quit my corporate job and started doing this full time. Oh. And I didn't even mention that I live in Charlotte.
Lindsay Chrisley
Oh, my gosh. So I didn't even. I kind of knew a little bit of that, but I didn't know that you gained interest from, like, following other fashion bloggers. Like, I didn't know if you were, like, always into fashion or if it's something because some people do it, like, also while working a corporate job. And I've heard a lot of girls talk about on their stories that are in that little realm of Instagram space that you're in, that they work corporate jobs up until a certain point, until they feel like they can separate from that. So you only did that for six months, or you just like, yeah, I
Katie Harrell
only did it for, like, I can't remember. It was, like, anywhere between six months and a year. And I was just so much happier. Like, when I was at my corporate job, I would sit there and all I would think about was blogging. And I was like, I was legit sneaking out of the office early to go, like, shoot and take pictures of my outfits. And so I got to the point where I was like, cam, I really just, like, I feel like if I can focus on this 100% and this be what I focus on, I feel like it can do so well. So we talked about it and prayed about it and talked to, like, his family about it. My family, my friends, and everyone was like, we totally think that you should do this full time. So I eventually just did it. And it was cool, too, because my corporate job, they were all, like, really supportive of it.
Lindsay Chrisley
Really?
Katie Harrell
Yeah. They were happy for me. I think they could just tell I was, like, super passionate about it. So it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be to leave.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, my story is a little bit different. I am also originally from Anderson, South Carolina, which is not too far from Sparkle City. And then in between fourth and fifth grade, I believe it was. My family moved to Atlanta and then moved to California for a year, and then moved back to Atlanta and have been here ever Since. But I still consider, like, my. What do you call, like, formative years or whatever, you know, from birth to, like, a fourth or fifth grade girl. I consider myself a South Carolina girl still. So.
Podcast Host / Narrator
Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley
And then I went to Georgia State University in the city of Atlanta, and that's where I met Will. And my whole idea of going to college was to go to college and just be a sorority girl and not have a boyfriend. And then I met Will in September of that year, so look at that. It didn't. It didn't really work out as planned, but, like, probably, obviously God's plan, just not my plan. And then we dated for all of college and then got married my senior year and then got pregnant very shortly after that.
Katie Harrell
Wow. Wait, I didn't know y' all got married your senior year.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah, so he actually had just graduated school, and then I think I had one. One or two semesters left of school. And. Yeah, I mean, we just kind of knew. And it. It's a sweet little story. He actually walked on to the baseball team at Georgia State, and then he got a scholarship, I think, his junior or senior year, and he saved all of his scholarship money to buy me a ring.
Katie Harrell
Oh, that is the cutest thing.
Lindsay Chrisley
And so, yeah, we got a little apartment, and he worked at Sprint, like, at a corporate store. It was his first job ever because he played baseball his whole life, and he did that. And then reality TV came into play. We filmed a pilot, I think, in August or so of the following year, I think in 2013. And I didn't expect for it to do anything. I was just kind of asked to just give a couple of days, like, four days to a week of my life. And if nothing came of it, it wasn't like there was a ton of time loss or anything. And I didn't expect for it to do anything because the statistics that I had heard on how many shows that were pitched per year, that versus what gets picked up, I was like, there's just, you know, no way. And there's not really an interesting person in my family that would, you know, make good tv. And then I believe that there were eight or nine offers to take on the show from networks. And so, wow. That's how that transpired. And I would say, so cool. I would say the people around me were not supportive, actually.
Katie Harrell
Oh, really?
Lindsay Chrisley
Of that transition. A lot of crap talkers, a lot of doubters, a lot of. Now I look back on it, and I'm like, you know, I think probably. And I took it to heart, you Know, and made me very upset because I'm like, why? You know, these people were supposedly my friends, and then, you know, they've got so much to say about this journey that, you know, we're embarking. On. But obviously they weren't really my friends, or else they would have been supportive of it. But now I look back and I'm like, it's just jealousy, you know?
Katie Harrell
Yep. That's pretty much always what that is.
Lindsay Chrisley
And you see so much of that on Instagram every single day. I'm just like, why can people just not be happy and supportive for other people? And it's like, I don't know, maybe I'm just like, so in my own world that I don't really care what other people are doing. Or maybe it's just, like, a maturity thing. Like, some people just haven't reached that peak maturity yet. But, yeah, it's. It's crazy. Let's tell everyone how we. We decided.
Katie Harrell
How we met.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah. And, like, how we decided to do a podcast.
Katie Harrell
Yeah. So we have the same management agency, me and Lindsay, and so we kind of just like, we've been following each other for a while.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah.
Katie Harrell
I feel like. And then we. Yeah, we found out we were with the same agency and we had the same manager. And I have, like, always wanted to be a part of a podcast because I feel like. Feel like. And Lindsay, we've talked about this a lot, but I feel like on Instagram, it is so hard for people to really get to know you because, I mean, the only place you can really talk is stories. And a lot of the time, and I'm guilty of it, too. I feel like people, if they see a lot of those dots at the top of the screen, they're just going to tap, tap, tap, tap, tap through. So a lot of people don't really ever like, hear what you have to say or. I don't know, it's just hard to, like, get to know someone beyond the feed. So for me, I feel like. Like, there's so much about me that my followers don't know, and there's so much that I want to talk about that's really not able to get portrayed on Instagram. So a podcast for me is, like, the perfect outlet.
Lindsay Chrisley
I agree. Podcasts for me, like, whenever it started was. I truly didn't know what it would do. You know, it was like, such a new space at that time when we originally started coffee convos and didn't even know if it would, like, be a flop or if it would be A hit or anything. And I feel like I know my. My followers or my followers know me so much better from having podcasts, from TV or from Instagram. And it is so true that what you're posting on Instagram, it is, you know, a highlight reel, and you're not going on there trying to be Debbie Downer, but that doesn't mean that you don't have Debbie Downer moments in your life.
Katie Harrell
Exactly. You don't want to go. Instagram is hard because you don't want to go on there and show all of your good times, but you also don't want to go on there and, like you said, be a Debbie Downer. So it's hard to really, like, talk about all the things you want to talk about. So, Lindsay, obviously you already have a really successful podcast coffee combo. So she approached me and was like, hey, would you want to start a potential podcast with me? And I was. I mean, I was so excited. I don't think I've ever been that excited before. It was like, fate.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, and I know that after you had Harper that you had a lot of struggles and stuff, and I saw that, and I saw it coming across on your feed, and I know that you've talked about it a little bit on there that, you know, just people with mean comments and then just not feeling yourself and trying to get back in the swing of things. And I think you took. Didn't you take, like, a month off from Instagram or something?
Katie Harrell
I did, Yep. An entire month just to be with her. Just to be with Harper.
Lindsay Chrisley
And what was that like?
Katie Harrell
Oh, my God, it was. It was amazing. Looking back, I should have done, like, three to four months, honestly, but it was just so great to just put your phone down and just live in the moment. And that's a whole nother thing. Like, I'm so excited to talk about this kind of stuff on here because I feel like Instagram is such a hard world right now, because the people who are really successful right now, basically, their Instagram stories are a reality TV show. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Lindsay Chrisley
Yep. Yep.
Katie Harrell
And they. They literally start filming from the second they wake up in the morning to the second they go to sleep. And it's so, like, it's awesome if that's what they enjoy and they like to do. But, like, me personally, I can't do that. Like, my happiest times are when my phone's down. And so just having that month with just Harper without any distractions, not worrying about work, just purely sitting there with her and enjoying her as a newborn and soaking in every moment. It was incredible.
Lindsay Chrisley
And I think too, because I also watch people's stories on Instagram and it's literally like from the moment that they wake up and open their eyes, stories start and until they go to bed. And maybe if they wake up to pee in the middle of the night, they're still storying. And I'm like, I don't know who probably has that, like, more power to them. Like, probably jealous of you if you're doing it. But like, I don't have that kind of energy and I don't even know if it's not having that kind of energy. I just think I don't have that kind of energy that I want to put in that much work to be like, oh, well, I need to capture this moment on stories. And I've often wondered if people who are capturing all of that stuff if, if they're getting all of it or if they have a whole production that's doing it.
Katie Harrell
What I really think they have a whole production, honestly, like, they have to like, I think they have someone who's filming and then that person immediately uploads all the stories because there's no way, there's no way that would take up your whole entire day.
Lindsay Chrisley
There's no way. I'm like, just to put up like one story slide. It takes me a minute. So maybe I'm just bad at it and.
Katie Harrell
No, it takes me a while too. Not just you.
Lindsay Chrisley
I'm like, am I just like a really bad influencer?
Katie Harrell
No, no, you're a great influencer, but you're also living your life. I think that's like, what I struggle with a lot is I do like, whenever I ask people what they want to see, I feel like 90% of the people on Instagram are like, we just want to see your day to day life. But that's hard for me because, well, a, A lot of times I'm not really, I'm just like, not really doing that many fun things. So I'm like, I don't know. But two, I. I kind of like to keep some stuff personal. And like I said, like, my favorite moments are when my phone's down. So a lot of times when I do have my phone out trying to capture every single thing, I feel like I'm not like living in that moment. Does that make sense?
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. And so I kind of made a rule. And this goes for anyone who's listening to this, who's not an influencer, just a Person that feels we all know someone in our life that is always on Instagram, always on Facebook, always on Twitter, always doing all the things. And I often wonder if they're actually enjoying that moment because they're spending time capturing that moment. It makes me think of dads, like, back in the 80s and 90s that walked around with camcorders, and they were, like, never in the footage.
Katie Harrell
Yes. They were just getting the behind the scenes.
Lindsay Chrisley
And I'm like, were those men miserable while they were doing this? Or, like. Because that's what I almost feel like in. In my life. Like, I'm busy, worried about capturing it and not living it sometimes. And that becomes a huge struggle for me. So I kind of implemented this rule where I have my phone, if I'm doing something fun or, you know, like, with family or whatever, and if I want to take a video or want to take a photo, then I do, but I don't go into editing it and I don't post it at that time. And later, when I do have time, then I post it after the fact.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, that's such a good rule. And you know, my friend Bailey, she's also a blogger here in Charlotte. Bailey Short, she does a really good job of that, too. Like, they just went on a vacation, and she got so much cool content, but she didn't post it at all while she was there. Um, she had a bunch of stuff to, like, post after when she was back, but I thought that was really cool because she got cool content, videos, memories and stuff that she can look back on, but she actually, like, enjoyed the moment during that trip, if that makes sense. So I, like, I like that rule a lot. I need to start implementing that.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah. Because it's just too much when you're trying to enjoy the moment. And, I mean, we can all relate to, like, wanting pictures of our kids or, like, stuff for memories and stuff. And I understand that, but then the whole, like, adding the aspect of having to post it and all of the
Katie Harrell
things make it pretty and. Yeah, captions. Because, like, again, like, people. I feel like 90 of people probably don't even listen to Instagram stories with sound on, so you always feel like you have to add captions and all that takes a while. So. Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley
Am I the only weirdo that listens to everyone's Instagram story with the sound on? Am I?
Supporting Voice / Friend
I love you.
Katie Harrell
No. I mean, I try to, but sometimes. Sometimes I can.
Lindsay Chrisley
I used to be laying in the bed. This is no lie. I used to be laying in the bed. This was like before tick Tock days. So let's try to remember like, okay, way back then. And Will would be like, excuse me, but like I don't care to hear Susan's life for the past 12 hours. Can you please take this party somewhere else or mute the freaking story.
Supporting Voice / Friend
Wait, I love that.
Katie Harrell
That is so something Cam would say too.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah. And I'm just like, I'm enjoying my life over here. Watching what Susan's doing.
Katie Harrell
Yeah. Like I need to hear what Susan's doing on loud.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah. Loudest volume. So I can feel like immersed in the moment. It's a great.
Supporting Voice / Friend
I love it.
Lindsay Chrisley
It's a great thing. But now I have resorted to tick tock and I just, oh gosh, that's
Katie Harrell
a whole nother rabbit hole.
Lindsay Chrisley
Oh my gosh.
Katie Harrell
I will be on there for hours. I can like barely let myself go on there because I will literally be on there for hours. And I'm like, Katie, what did you just do with your day? You were literally just scrolling Tick tock for hours. It's so bad.

Honestly, I think that that is probably the biggest struggle of my life. Actually. We had both posted a Get to Know me Better Q and A and this kind of transitions pretty seamlessly into what does a typical day look like for you? And to be perfectly honest with what I do for work, and I know that Kayla and I've talked a lot about this on Coffee Convos, that a lot of people view things that we're doing as fun. So then that doesn't mean work or like it doesn't translate to work. And to me I just think that that's like a bit of a crazy way of thinking, honestly, because I feel like it's not realistic in everybody's world to, you know, really like love doing what you're doing because there are some jobs that I couldn't imagine, like, you know, maybe. Maybe there might be some number crunchers that are listening to this podcast. I don't know if that's the type of person that's listening to this, but if there are, I couldn't imagine, like, loving using a calculator all day. But, like, if you do, then, like, more power to you. But I truly do feel like you should do what you love to do. And I really do love doing what I'm doing. But the hardest part of doing that is creating a schedule.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, it's a. It's a struggle because our jobs just look so differently. Right. Like, for me, I was in corporate for six years, so I was so used to being on a very tight schedule. Like at, like, I remember my first job, which I forgot to mention this. That's where I met my husband. Cam was at my first job right out of college in Charlotte. And he actually still works there. But I mean, I had to be in the office no later than 7:30am And I couldn't walk out of that office until like 5, 5:30pm So I was so used to being on this, like, very, you know, crazy schedule. And that's like, what's kind of hard with this job is we don't have to, you know, have to be confined in those certain hours, but it also makes it. Which is great a lot of times because we have that flexibility. Right. But it's also, it's also hard to not always have a schedule, if that makes sense.
Podcast Host / Narrator
Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley
Because, I mean, sometimes at like 10:20, if I decide I want Chick Fil A breakfast and I'm trying to like, speed there really quick to make it before 10:30, I might be doing that, but I need to be doing something else. But the flexibility allows me to speed to Chick Fil A, you know, so.
Katie Harrell
Exactly. Like, for me, I'm. I don't know if you do this, but I'm so guilty in the morning, which totally off subject, but have you ever drank coffee out of a yeti mug?
Lindsay Chrisley
No. But is it like the best?
Katie Harrell
It's life changing. You will literally never use another coffee mug. We have like five in our house now. We keep them on rotation. I don't think I've touched another coffee mug in our. Our house in months. But every morning I go make my coffee in the yeti mug. And the thing is, it keeps it really hot for a long time. So I just sit there. Like, I will find myself sipping on that same cup of coffee an hour later.
Lindsay Chrisley
And you're like, what have I been doing.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, yeah. And I'm like, this is great and I've enjoyed this cup of coffee, but I. I mean, what the heck? I gotta get up and do stuff.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. Why is it.
Katie Harrell
Whereas if I had a schedule like, like how it was in corporate, I wouldn't have been able to do that. So it's a struggle.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, on that topic, I don't know if you remember, but whenever I was in Charlotte with you, I said I needed to start going to, like, Orange Theory and doing classes or something so that my day was, like, required to be started. Because I also will sit and look at my friends photos and, like, comment on them and support them. And I'll just be like, on the Instagram rabbit hole. And then I might go on T talk for a little bit. And I'm like, what do they have over here that I can see that's funny. And then I'm like, oh, I definitely need to post that on my Instagram story because that person was so funny and all these people can relate. And then I look up and I'm like, okay, I should probably go get Chick Fil A breakfast now. And then I'm like, everything resorts back
Supporting Voice / Friend
to Chick Fil A. I love it.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. And then I'm like, oh, I need to go to the gym now. And then it's like, oh, well, it's time to pick up Jackson now.
Katie Harrell
Like, the next thing you know, your day's like, gone. It's over. And you're like, what did I do?
Lindsay Chrisley
You. Yes, I need a professional schedule planner. Like, somebody.
Katie Harrell
Well, have you started. Have you started doing the Orange Theory thing yet? I feel like that would help.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, I do feel like that would help. But now, to answer your question, I didn't because I came back from Charlotte. I did go to Orange Theory. I just didn't work out at Orange Theory. I got all the information from them. But then I was like, well, I can't start this week because I have this coming up. And then I'll have to start skip. So then I should start next week. Well, then I had like a surprise trip and then I was in New York last week, and then I'm going to be in California next week. So I'm like, how do people, like, make their schedules?
Katie Harrell
I know, I know. We do need a professional schedule maker. Are there people out there that do that?
Lindsay Chrisley
That would be amazing. But back to your coffee comment. Yeah, I could only use a Yeti mug, Katie, to make a cold coffee because I don't drink hot coffee. Like, I've never Dr. Like how you have at your house, the. What's that little machine thing?
Katie Harrell
The Keurig.
Lindsay Chrisley
The Keurig? Yeah. I've never had a coffee out of something like that ever.
Katie Harrell
Wait, really?
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah. Are you gonna make it for me?
Katie Harrell
Wait, what? Yes, we are changing this. You have to have. You have to have a Keurig coffee, like, out of a yeti mug. We.
Lindsay Chrisley
We should do a sampling to find out, like, where the money spot is for me. Like. Like, do I like hazelnut? Do I like vanilla?
Katie Harrell
It's all about vanilla biscotti. Vanilla biscotti Folgers. That's where it's at. You just wait. Next time you come to Charlotte, I have it waiting on you. As soon as you get in, your life is about to be changed.
Lindsay Chrisley
When you serve it to me, you're gonna be like Folgers in your cup.
Supporting Voice / Friend
I love it.
Lindsay Chrisley
I love. We just said the same thing.
Katie Harrell
We're the same.
Lindsay Chrisley
Okay, so another question that somebody asked is, what is your biggest regret in life? If you have one? And I mean, that can be relevant to both of us, so I guess I'll answer. I've always said I don't really live with regret, because I feel like you could regret a lot of things if you go down that slippery slope. But one of. I think my biggest regrets is once I entered, and maybe this has been my whole life, is being a people pleaser and more. So I think I realized how much of a people pleaser I was when I, you know, Instagram did become a bigger thing for me, and then, you know, reality tv. Speaking of, I didn't even have. Going into reality tv, I didn't even have an Instagram or a Twitter or a Facebook. I was social media really just, wow. Just to paint the picture. But yeah, like, being a people pleaser and maybe holding back from doing things or trying to pursue things because I felt like it might upset someone and just not. I don't want to say, like, not living authentically, but kind of, you know, like, living in this space of I need to please these people. So I can't do. Do this thing that would make me happy because I need to please these people. And by doing that, it wouldn't make these people happy. So that's probably my biggest life regret.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, I feel like I'm. I'm. I struggle with that too. I'm definitely a people pleaser. I care so. I mean, even people who follow me on Instagram, you probably already know it, but I care a lot. Like Emotional and sensitive, and I care a lot about what other people think. It's something I'm, like, working on. I've definitely gotten better with it. But, yeah, it's hard to, like, constantly care. Like, I don't know if you're the same way either, but I'm always like. Like sometimes with even friendships that, like, aren't. Like my college girlfriends, that's a whole different thing. Like, I'm so solid in those friendships. Those are my ride or die is like, we'll be, you know, we'll be friends forever, but, like, newer friendships a lot of times, too. I'm like, do they like me? Like, I don't know. I just. I feel like I'm a people pleaser, and I always worry about what people think, and it's stupid. It's.
Lindsay Chrisley
It's.
Katie Harrell
You can't live your life like that.
Lindsay Chrisley
And I think also see it's a slippery slope because now I'm, like, thinking of something else. I'm like, okay, well, a huge regret for me is being a slave to my phone. And it's like a current regret, but, like, also, like, a past regret, because I feel like once you kind of get into that space of. Of being a slave to your phone, it's almost like second nature to be that. And I'm always, have. Have always been available for people. You know, when they call, I'm there. I answer, whatever. But I feel like that's so unhealthy. And I kind of had to learn that through therapy that it's okay to disengage and it's okay to be away from your phone, but it kind of goes back to. We basically run businesses off of our phones. So how do you separate, like, your
Katie Harrell
personal life from impersonal? Yep.
Lindsay Chrisley
And then the business that we are in, I feel like, is so personal in a lot of ways that it's hard to have that separation.
Katie Harrell
Yep. I totally agree. I totally agree. Okay. I guess I'll say biggest regret for me, I will say. And if anyone's read my testimony, probably one of my biggest regrets. I look back on. I was in a really bad relationship in college. It was very mentally and physically abusive. And it kind of made my, like, last year at Clemson awful. I just. I was not myself. He made me, like, super insecure with friendships, which is actually probably where a lot of my overly sensitive insecurities come from, actually, now that I think about it. But I regret not getting out of that relationship sooner because I feel like. Yeah, I feel like a lot of people could relate to that.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah.
Katie Harrell
Whether it's, you know, even marriages and you know, when you're stuck in a bad marriage and you know, like my parents were, which is a another story for a different time. But yeah. But then again, I don't regret it because everything worked out perfectly to where I met my husband.
Lindsay Chrisley
Right.
Katie Harrell
So. So regrets are hard. But I feel like it, you kind of life kind of leads you where you're supposed to go.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, and maybe you wouldn't have met Cam or known that you needed a man like Cam if you didn't have bad experiences before that.
Katie Harrell
So I totally agree. I actually say all the time because Cam is such an amazing guy that I honestly think if I didn't go through that horrible relationship, I don't know if I would fully appreciate it.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. Because you had to see what was bad before you could maybe be open to what could be so good.
Katie Harrell
Yep.

And I do agree. Cam is like pretty amazing guy.
Katie Harrell
Oh, he's the sweetest.
Lindsay Chrisley
And he's so good with Harper.
Katie Harrell
He really is. He's the best dad. Oh my gosh. It's so sweet watching him with her. And can we talk about how she's his twin?
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes, yes, actually, let's do she even my child.
Katie Harrell
I don't know.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, it's so funny that you actually say that because honestly, I kind of feel the same way with Jackson. And it's like, okay, so I carried you and basically did absolutely everything for you to make you be a living human. And you come out and you do this to me like, yep, how dare you.
Katie Harrell
I feel like it has to be like, I feel like I hear so many moms talking about this. It has to be like a. A nature thing. Like, don't the. Have you ever heard that? Like, don't the kids look like their dads? Because it's a way for the dad to bond with the kid since they were Sometimes I have heard that.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes, I have heard that. But then sometimes I'm like, I look at other people's kids. Not. Harper is not one of the kids that I look at, and it's like, oh, she looks like her mom. But I have looked at other people's children, and I'm like, okay, that person looks like the mom or that, you know, that one is. Looks a little like the dad and like the moment. But in your situation, I feel like Harper is through and through, Cam.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, she is. She's got my. I will say she has my olive skin complexion. I'll say that. But other than that, yeah, she's. She's all Cam, but it's okay. I'll take it. She's cute. She's so cute.
Lindsay Chrisley
And while we're on the top, I'm biased, but she. She is so cute, and her little personality is so precious, and she. I personally think she's a good baby, but I had a baby that was not a great baby. So anything better than what I had, I probably am like, oh, that's the best baby. But she really is good. Like, we went out. When I was in Charlotte, we went out to Nordstrom, and she was, like, good the whole time we went to eat. She was good the whole time.
Katie Harrell
So I didn't have those experiences being out and about. Really?
Lindsay Chrisley
No. Actually, I was walking with one of my.
Katie Harrell
Colic.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. Colic. Yes.
Katie Harrell
Oh, gosh.
Lindsay Chrisley
And I was walking with one of my girlfriends yesterday. We walked a little over five miles on a walking trail close to my house. And I was. She had her little baby with her, and he was perfect the whole time. Never made a peep, Just rode in the stroller. And I was like, if that had been Jackson, this would not have been made possible because I would have been trying to give him snacks, you know, like, shake the stroller.
Katie Harrell
He would have just been losing it.
Lindsay Chrisley
Losing it. And I'm like, is that a first child thing or is it. Was it just like my child thing?
Katie Harrell
Because I think you just don't know. You just watch. Like, our next child, I'm sure will be. I mean, not nearly as well behaved as Harper.
Lindsay Chrisley
I.
Katie Harrell
You just never know what you're gonna get.
Lindsay Chrisley
I say, people who have good first kids, the first time, the second one, you're probably not gonna get as lucky.
Katie Harrell
Yep.
Lindsay Chrisley
My situation. Jackson was colic, cried all the time. When I would put him in the car seat, he would literally scream the entire time. From the time I put him in the car seat until the time the Car stopped.
Katie Harrell
Wait, really? How long did that last for?
Lindsay Chrisley
Oh, until he was forward facing.
Katie Harrell
Oh, no. I wonder if he was car sick.
Lindsay Chrisley
I have no idea. But whatever it was, was not the move.
Katie Harrell
Like, oh, that's so stressful. Harper actually didn't like her car seat for, like, the first three months. And it was horrible.
Lindsay Chrisley
It was hor. It's so horrible. I was like, okay, well, I'm just not gonna drive anywhere. I'll just wait.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, I'm not going anywhere because, like, your. Your anxiety is, like, through the roof as you have a screaming baby. And you're like, okay, never mind.
Supporting Voice / Friend
We're just gonna live at the house. Like.
Lindsay Chrisley
And I'm like, like, trying to, like, turn the music up. Nothing's helping. Trying to have the navigation going on. And it's like, turn right here on Eggplant Way. And it's like, like in the back. And I'm like, oh, my God.
Katie Harrell
I'm just.
Lindsay Chrisley
I'm going home. Like, I get the worst.
Katie Harrell
Are the stoplights when you get a stoplight. Oh, my God. Sometimes Harper would, like, chill out for a little bit if we would, like, be actually driving. Driving. And then the second we hit a stoplight, I mean, it was crazy. And I would. I would literally be like, please, God, please no stop. Like, please no stop. Like, come on, people. Come on, people. We gotta make it. We gotta make it. We can't have the screaming child.
Lindsay Chrisley
I. I love that. So, speaking of, Harper, do you want to talk a little bit about the things that you've struggled with on Instagram, with posting Harper?
Katie Harrell
Yeah. Yeah, definitely. So just, like, recently, I mean, I know you probably saw it, but I was, like, checking DMS that morning, and I. It was probably from, like, six different people. I kid you not. And don't get me wrong, a lot of the DMs I get are super sweet and positive, and, you know, I'm so thankful for this community. But some. There were, like, six people, for whatever reason like, that, like, recently that had DM me just, like, hateful things about her. Oh, I know what it was. Remember when we were joking about going. We were trying to get a Mexican restaurant reservation on Cinco de Mayo.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. Yes. Yeah.
Katie Harrell
Which, by the way, a lot of people. There are also people that didn't think that was funny. And I'm like, come on, y', all, we're just kidding. Like, it was. It was a prank call. Like, we were totally kidding, right? Like, and. And the other girl in the other line actually, like, started laughing too. So it was Funny. But we said, you know how Cam was like, we have a really cute baby. Yeah. Are you sure you can't get us in? She's really cute. So I guess it was from that because it was like, the next day. So people were like, no, your baby's not cute. She's actually really ugly and looks just like your ugly husband and just, like, things like that. And it's just crazy the things that people say. Like, I will never in my life be able to wrap my head around nasty trolls on the Internet who say, like, how can you say something about a baby?
Lindsay Chrisley
I don't understand that. And I. Kayl and I have talked about this on coffee combos a little bit about who just goes on Instagram to seek out negativity. It's like, if you don't like what you see or what I have posted has repulsed you so bad that you need to send a negative comment, maybe the solution would be to just click the unfollow and keep it moving.
Katie Harrell
Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley
You don't need to be think.
Katie Harrell
Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley
Like, it's just. It's a weird thing, but I'll never forget you posting this was shortly, I believe, after Harper was born. You had posted something about how you were going to post your ugly baby or something, like your nerdy husband or something. Do you remember posting that?
Katie Harrell
Yep.
Lindsay Chrisley
Okay, walk the listeners through this.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, so it's kind of like a similar scenario where people were just telling me how she looks like my ugly husband, which is just horrible. Obviously, I don't think Cam's ugly at all.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah.
Katie Harrell
Which, by the way, if any of you guys knew me in high school, my, like, first, like, real boyfriend in high school looks very similar to Cam. It's kind of funny. So, like, I obviously have a type. Like, tall, skinny, skinny, like, baby face, like, looks younger. Like, that's just, like, always been my type. So, like, Cam is, like, to a T, like, exactly what I think is attractive. So it was just crazy. So I kept getting comments like that. And I just, you know, had a day where I was like, yeah, well, if you think my ugly baby looks like my nerdy, ugly husband, I'm glad she does. And then I just named off all the reasons that I love Cam and how I hope that she's everything, like, like her dad, because he is one of the most amazing people I've ever, you know, met in my entire life. So people are just ugly and nasty, and they just. They love to just hurt people. Like, I always. My favorite thing is hurt people. Hurt people. Like These people are who making nasty comments like that, or they're just. They're miserable.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. I mean, I oftentimes think how hard it would be for someone that is married or in a relationship with a girl who influences and has that type of audience where they're just trying to be like a normal man. And it's like, hey, will you take a picture with me? And then it gets posted and it goes to all of these people, and it's not something that they have asked for or not necessarily, you know, signed up for. And then it's like these negative comments about what they look like. And. Yeah, who spends their day like.
Katie Harrell
I know, doesn't it make you, like, I've gotten to a point now where I just, like, have to stop and, like, pray for those people because they have to just be so unhappy with themselves to, like, go on and talk about a stranger's baby or husband, someone that they don't even know. It's just. It's just sad. And it really, for a little while, made me, like, kind of insecure to, like, post Harper. Because I think one thing that made me sad recently with all those dms, like, she's so ugly. It just made me sad because I was like, she's an innocent baby. She's perfect. And, you know, God created her and she was perfectly made. And what if one day she, like, finds out that, like, people are saying that about her? I don't know. It just like, yes, yes. You know what I mean? And then I go down this rabbit hole in my head and I'm like, this isn't fair to her. Like, she shouldn't have to, like, hear any of this negativity or ever see any of this negativity. So then there's like, the mom guilt that comes with posting her. I don't know. It's just a whole thing.
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, and then Kayl and I have actually talked about how, you know, kids start going through awkward phases. And I knew someone that was on a reality show that stopped posting pictures of her son because he was insecure about, like, the way he looked or his teeth. And, you know, she was getting negative comments about it. And it's just like, how sad is that? Like, you want to post just like a normal human being who has these social media platforms. You want to post your kids just like, they're posting their kids and, like, be proud of them and not have to worry about, oh, does she look. Or does he look extra cute in this photo? Like, the things that I feel like we have to think about before posting something is just honestly sad sometimes.
Katie Harrell
I know it is sad. And that's just unfortunately the world we live in now. And I mean, just everything you're. You know, people want to see your life. They want to see more of your family, they want to see. They basically want an inside look into your life. But then when you do that, you have those handful of people that criticize you and rip you apart and comment on every single thing that they possibly could. So there's just never, like, a full win win, you know?
Lindsay Chrisley
Well, and it's like you said, there's so many great people that support, and you constantly see them, you know, like, in your comments and in your views and whatever, and they're so supportive. But then you have the handful of bad eggs, and for whatever reason, that handful of bad eggs stands out so much, you're like, yeah, it's just like,
Katie Harrell
when you read a comment like that, especially as a mom with someone talking about your child, which is a whole nother level of frustration, it, like, it's like a stab. You know what I mean? Like, it just hurts, like, really, really bad, especially right when you read it. And then, of course, like, you know, I pick myself up and I'm like, whatever, that those people don't matter. You know, there's no truth in anything that that person said. But it still stings when you read it.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes. So.
Katie Harrell
And you wouldn't be human if it didn't. Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley
I mean, if you. I'm sure, you know, when people listen to this, they might be like, oh, well, then just get over it. Because that. That's, you know, part of the territory of what you do. And yes, to a degree, you know, you're kind of signing up and putting your life out there on the forefront for people to, you know, either respond positively or negatively. The hope is, though, when you're putting it out there, is that you're just trying to live your life, and you hope that the people who are following you are following you because genuinely they support you and they want the best for you and, like, you know, just be supportive of you and not negative and try to tear you down. But, you know, there are those. Select some that do. Yep.

Moving on to the next question is someone asked And I get this question actually all the time and I don't know that I I've ever fully addressed it. Do you talk to your real mom? And yes I do talk to her. She is not, I guess what you would say like media followed. She's like a normal human being. She didn't ask to like be drug into any of this world and I try to respect her sense of normalcy and what she does and you know, she has other children and so it's just not something that I talk about often. And to be perfectly honest the relationship was not super great and it has evolved over time. I think for me through therapy and through having a care, just taking her being my biological mother like out of the picture but just like viewing her as a normal human being and how we all make mistakes and decisions that she made, trying to understand those decisions that were made from just like, human to human versus her being. My mom has been super helpful, but it hasn't always been the best relationship. But she does check on me weekly. And, you know, she. She talks to Jackson, and I try to keep everything as, you know, as positive as can be. And I don't want to get, like, too deep into this because we can talk about it on another episode, but my life growing up, my parents had a super dysfunctional, if you would even call it a co parenting relationship. And so that heavily impacted me in a negative way, in ways that I didn't even realize impacted me until I became an adult and I started uncovering things through therapy and why I respond to certain things the way that I do. And, yeah, I mean, I. I don't have anything bad to say. I mean, I could look back on it and be like, oh, well, you know, I wish that my life was like. Like Susan's, but it wasn't, you know, and I. I do care for her. I have a deep care for her. I think any. Any biological connection. I would be a liar if I was like, oh, like, I don't care about my parents. Like, no, I care about my mom and I care about my dad because it's a biological connection there that even if I didn't want to care about them, I care about them. I don't know. Like, yeah.
Katie Harrell
Yep, that makes sense.
Lindsay Chrisley
How to explain. But then on your side, you have an estranged relationship with your biological dad. And so tell us a little bit about that.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, so for those of you that don't know. So my dad, we haven't spoken since. Since the Christmas after Cam and I got married, which was in October. It was 2016, so we haven't spoken since then. And he just has, unfortunately, a really bad drug addiction. And it started. For those of you that also don't know, my parents had me when they were 18. So, you know, and we definitely. Lindsay should talk about this on another episode. Just kind of like, dig deep into, like, our childhood. I feel like it could definitely help a lot of people, but my childhood was definitely not normal. And like you said, like, I would crave sometimes, like, God, wish I had grew up like Susie did, you know, But I didn't. But, yeah, it was hard because it started when basically what happened is he got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. And then he is one of those people that got prescribed OxyContin. And so, of course, I'm sure a lot of people know about the opioid epidemic and all the things that are going on with that. But so he's one of those people that just got, like, highly addicted to opioids, and basically, like, our entire family life and everything just has been affected because of that. So it's been hard, and there's been a lot of things that I'll, you know, tell you guys more about later. But a lot of trust has been broken. He's done a lot of things to myself and family members, and I just got to the point where, mentally, I couldn't take it on anymore. Like, I had to distance myself from that relationship because it was drowning me. It was so hard.
Lindsay Chrisley
You know, sometimes they're relationships in your life. It doesn't even have to be like a relationship with a parent. But relationships sometimes can be so negatively impactful on your life that you almost have to do that, you know, where it's like, okay, I cut. I cut it off. And it's not that you. I'm sure that you love him, like, in your own way.
Katie Harrell
Yeah. It's like what you said. Like, I could sit here and lie and be like, oh, I don't care. Yeah, but he's my dad.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes.
Katie Harrell
So, of course I care. And of course I long to have a relationship with him, just like anyone would. And I. You know, I hope that one day he finds help and really changes. And, you know, of course, my hope is that we'll be able to repair that relationship. Like, I'd love for him to meet Harper one day and be a grandpa and. And all of that stuff, but. And a lot of times I struggle, too, with, like, addiction being a disease, because I understand it's a disease. And then sometimes I'm guilt. I feel guilty for not having a relationship with him because I'm like, oh, well, he. He has a disease, you know, so he can't help it. He's sick. But at the same time, I can't enable him. And when he. When I did have him in my life, I was enabling him, and it was taking such a toll on me. So it's hard sometimes to know, like, what the right thing to do is in situations like that.
Lindsay Chrisley
And I think that it's just by the person. Right. So, like, what might be right for you might be wrong for someone else, and vice versa. I think that things. My perspective when it came to relationships definitely changed after I had Jackson. And I don't know if you felt the same way, like, I knew that I proactively needed to redirect the way that I handled certain relationships in my life once I had him, because it wasn't about me anymore.
Katie Harrell
Yep, totally get that. Yeah, you're not, like you said, it's not about you. You have to think about, you know, and then you have to be the best mom you can be. So if you're, you know, have a toxic relationship in your life that is constantly bringing you down or causing you stress and anxiety, like they're, you know, your kids are going to be able to sense that. So not only does that toxic relationship affect you anymore, but it affects every single person that's in your day to day life.
Lindsay Chrisley
Correct, Correct.
Katie Harrell
So then that's a whole nother, you know, it's a whole nother thing to think about. But yeah, it's not definitely not easy. And like you, like, I've gone to therapy about it. I actually need to start going again, you know, weekly again. But I've just learned a lot about that relationship and just kind of how to deal with it. And, you know, why, like you said, why I respond to certain things the way I do, you know, all of it is past traumas and past things that have happened to our life, you know, for the good and bad, shape us into who we are today and how we react to things so well.
Lindsay Chrisley
And we all have them. Right. Like our parents, too, even if we don't have the most positive relationship with, with our parents, or I'll speak for myself, like with my parents, they also have past traumas. And so you have to look at everything collectively and be like, okay, you know, that's their mess and that's something that they're having to work through, and they need to work through that in their timing. But I also, like you said, can't enable certain behaviors. So I have to take a step back and work on myself how I respond to things or don't respond because, you know, through therapy, I've learned no response is a response. And, you know, it's just been a crazy thing to navigate. But I think that over time on this podcast, that will definitely dig deeper into this and being children of parents who were very young, whenever they had us, and just the differences in the way I'm raising Jackson and the way that I was raised. And I'm sure, same for you, the way you were raised in the way that you're raising Harper.
Katie Harrell
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I, I want to give everything to Harper that I didn't have. I'm sure you're the same way.
Lindsay Chrisley
Absolutely. Okay, so we're gonna end on, like, a positive note.
Katie Harrell
Question.
Lindsay Chrisley
Okay. What did you want to be whenever you grew up when you were just a little kid?
Katie Harrell
Probably Britney Spears.
Lindsay Chrisley
Britney Spears.
Katie Harrell
Oh, I was so obsessed.
Lindsay Chrisley
So, Katie, you've always basically wanted to be who you are.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, basically. Because I'm basically Britney Spears.
Lindsay Chrisley
You're basically Britney Spears. I know. We're. We're big Britney Spears fans. Big Swifties.
Katie Harrell
Oh, yes. Oh, goodness. Love Taylor Swift.
Lindsay Chrisley
We need a good. Like, you can be on the wine, but I will be, like, on the mojito. Taylor Swift, like, jam out night.
Katie Harrell
Oh, yes.
Lindsay Chrisley
What we need.
Katie Harrell
And then coming to you. You're coming to Charlotte for Harper's birthday. So that's what we're doing.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes, we. That's what we're gonna do.
Katie Harrell
And we're giving you the coffee.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yes, yes. And I'll determine, like, what my. What is it creamer that you put in it.
Katie Harrell
It's creamer. Yep.
Lindsay Chrisley
Yeah, I don't know anything like, oh,
Katie Harrell
my gosh, we have so much to teach you.
Lindsay Chrisley
What the heck? I only drink, literally ice coffee. And that's probably so weird to a lot of people that are listening to this. Like, who is this girl? Why is she that way? But I wanted to be, growing up a waitress. A waitress, a mom, and a federal judge.
Katie Harrell
Oh, wow. Okay.
Lindsay Chrisley
I'm basically a waitress in my real life at home.
Katie Harrell
Yeah, that's true.
Lindsay Chrisley
I wait on people hand and foot and. Yeah, so I'm a waitress. I just don't get. It's not a paid job. I'm a mom. So I conquered that. I just didn't become a federal judge. And that's kind of heartbreaking, to be perfectly honest.
Supporting Voice / Friend
Oh, my God, I love you.
Lindsay Chrisley
You know, that is.
Katie Harrell
That's everything.
Lindsay Chrisley
I would sit and watch Judge Judy and really, like, geek out. Probably very inappropriate.
Katie Harrell
You're gonna make me want to go
Lindsay Chrisley
watch Judge Judy now after this speaks to my childhood. You know what I mean?
Katie Harrell
Yeah.
Lindsay Chrisley

Podcast: The Southern Tea
Host: Lindsie Chrisley (& co-host Katie Harrell)
Release Date: June 10, 2026
Episode Theme: Heartfelt introductions, behind-the-scenes of influencer life, navigating motherhood, family dynamics, and setting the tone for future conversations.
In this inaugural encore episode, Lindsie Chrisley and first-time podcast co-host, influencer Katie Harrell, welcome listeners into their lives with open, unfiltered discussion. The episode centers on honest self-introductions, journeys from “real life” careers to influencer status, the challenges of sharing personal lives online, and deep dives into family and personal struggles. With humor, warmth, and a heavy pour of southern charm, Lindsie and Katie establish a safe space to get real about motherhood, relationships, regret, and the relentless pursuit of authenticity.
On leaving corporate jobs to pursue passion:
“When I was at my corporate job, I would sit there and all I would think about was blogging. ... I was legit sneaking out of the office early to go, like, shoot and take pictures of my outfits.”
— [03:50] Katie Harrell
On authenticity & influencer pressure:
“You’re not going on there trying to be Debbie Downer, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have Debbie Downer moments in your life.”
— [10:32] Lindsie Chrisley
On capturing vs. living moments:
“It makes me think of dads, like, back in the 80s and 90s that walked around with camcorders, and they were, like, never in the footage.”
— [15:25] Lindsie Chrisley
On toxic online comments:
“Hurt people hurt people. ... They’re just miserable.”
— [45:41] Katie Harrell
On boundaries with parents & breaking cycles:
“After I had Jackson… it wasn’t about me anymore.”
— [58:45] Lindsie Chrisley
Warm, honest, vulnerable, and distinctly Southern—with humor, mutual support, and an emphasis on real talk. Both hosts are candid about struggles, personal growth, and the messy side of motherhood and online life.
This episode serves as a true icebreaker—listeners are welcomed into an ongoing heart-to-heart, where nothing is glossed over or held back. Whether tackling influencer authenticity, social media’s dark side, the chaos of motherhood, or the pain and healing of family estrangement, Lindsie and Katie promise—and deliver—“the tea, the whole tea, and nothing but the tea.”
