I was also, like, rolling calls, so I wasn't really, like, looking at where I didn't even notice there was traffic. I was just sort of in it.

So I was cruising, as one does, and, like, out of nowhere, the biggest turkey came flying across the street. I literally. It was like a. One of those commercials. Like, I. I stopped like, you know, the Subaru commercials, when it's like, they show you, like, what could have happened if you were an accident. I never stopped so short in my whole life. I must have been probably a foot away from the turkey. I. I almost. I came so close to killing the circuit, and he was just, like, flying across the street without a care in the world. My heart was racing. I literally just came back to, like, normal.

Yeah. It was crazy.

They're like, free your own safety. Like, you actually should continue to floor it.

Because if you, like, stop short mid de. First of all, the deer is in your lap and the deer's still alive, so it's like kicking you. They say, like, you should definitely try to kill the deer. That's just what they say.

If you. If a deer crosses the road as you're crossing, the deer go faster. It's just funny.

Like what? Little, like, life tips stick with you. That deer thing has always stuck with me. I actually saw a tik tok like, a couple of months ago that I keep thinking about because it can't possibly be true. It was from these, like, two female, like, self defense experts. And they were just giving like, little tips. Like, if somebody tells you this, always do this. And they're like, if someone like, holds a gun to you and says, like, get in the car. First of all, I believe this. Like, the chance of your survival drops by like, 98 if you go to a second location with them. They say that, like, you should run even though he has a gun because, like, statistically it's harder to hit a moving target.

And I just, like, I don't know if I believe that you should run.

[Claudia]

Like, you think you should get in the car?

No, I don't think you should get in the car either. But, like, there's a gun to your neck.

I just feel like I'm not really seeing like, the. The tidbit.

Like, of course you should run, but,

I don't know that he really, like, I don't know what his intentions are. Honestly.

His intentions are to get you into the moving vehicle.

Right. Not necessarily to kill you.

That's true. Oh, that is also what they said. Like, a lot of the times, like,

they're just not trying to kill somebody.

They're bad guys. But killing, like, in public, like, it draws more Attention to them, it makes it, like, harder for them to get caught. So, like, they were just saying, like, almost, like, call their bluff. And I was like, I don't know.

It's kind of risky, like, but, like, you might as well, because what do you have to lose? Because the other option is getting in the car.

[Jackson Claude]

Right, Right. At that point, like, you unfortunately don't have good options.

[Claudia]

You don't have much choices.

They were always telling us, like, what to do with bears because we went

[Claudia]

to camp last night. I was driving home late. I went out. I had a day yesterday. My college friends came to visit me. So we're, like, having, you know, a little college reunion. They're out in the Hamptons. And so yesterday we had lunch and we laid by the pool. We went out to dinner. We went out, like, late, and I was driving home, and, like, I was seriously driving so slow. I was so scared to see.

[Jackson Claude]

The night in the Hamptons is really scary.

[Claudia]

It's crazy.

[Jackson Claude]

There are no shoe lights.

[Claudia]

So Rebecca drove with me, like, halfway, and she taught me how to use brights, which was great.

[Jackson Claude]

You didn't know how to use brights?

[Claudia]

I knew how to use brights, but I didn't know that, like, when the signal has, like, a green light on, that just means your headlights are on. And when that turns blue, that means your brights are on, because I like to.

[Jackson Claude]

And if somebody's coming the opposite way, you have to turn on.

[Claudia]

But I didn't know when my brights were on, when they weren't. And then when I turned them on, I was like, you can see okay. And then there was light.

[Jackson Claude]

Yeah.

[Claudia]

So I was really nervous to drive home, but it was another check off the box. It's funny because when we were in college, I didn't drive. I didn't know how to drive. I didn't have a car. But, like, my friends did, and they drove me everywhere. And, like, it was just, like, part of life. It was just a fact of life that, like, I just didn't go anywhere, whatever. And now, like, driving my friends, it's so crazy because I've never driven them before. And it's just crazy to think about, like, you had all this freedom when we were in college. Oh, yeah, you guys were doing this yeah. You were doing this. Then Rebecca said it was probably good that I couldn't drive or have a car.

You would have gone home every day

[Claudia]

because I would have never been there. I would go to Utica and go to the mall. I just would have always needed it.

[Jackson Claude]

Forced you to bloom where you were planted.

[Claudia]

I would have always needed a break. It's true.

Or you would, like, literally drive home, like, enough feeling it. Let's go home.

[Claudia]

No, And I already went home, like, once a month, and that's through hitching rides, you know, train, plane, however I could get there.

Yeah.

So if I could get myself home,

I would have gone home all but

even more, which is crazy. So she's right. It was for the best that I had to bloom where I was planted. It's true.

But I'm like, you know, with lifelong

college friends, it's crazy that you guys could just like, I'll just go get sushi in Utica.

That is also crazy to think about that. Like kids these days. I mean, back in our day, too. But like, 16 year olds can just, like, go places.

Not on my watch.

No, it's great. I'm happy for them. I'm just jealous that, like, I didn't have it sooner, but I guess there was really a reason, you know?

Yeah, they're really forced to.

So we're just having a grand old time.

I feel like, like, such a mom. Like my college guy.

I got home from dinner at 10:45. I was locked out of the house.

I'm just. And that's crazy because I haven't conducted my investigation as to.

Just so you know, I had no part of it. Because one thing about me and Ben is like, we sleep good knowing that, like, you every night, lock every door and window. Like, I leave every door open. I'm like, I'm not worried and I'm not locking it. Because I'm like, that's Jackie's job.

So I thought for sure there was no way you would get locked out. Because who would lock you out but you?

[Claudia]

I know. And when I left the house, I made sure the door was open. I did check, and then I came back and I was locked out. So I do think that culprit has to be my husband. But he said he Said he made sure the door was unlocked for me.

We're talking about the front door. Yeah. I had no part of that. I. I don't lock doors sometimes.

Like, doors are funny. Sometimes doors can.

Like, it wasn't a funny door situation,

but, like, you know when the interior lock is on and you don't know?

No.

The interior lock. Ben's always doing the interior lock.

Oh, my God. Ben is always leaving front doors open like, it's insane.

Yeah. So someone did that to me, and I was. I don't know what I would have done if no one. The garage. I don't have the code. And then, like, you.

I loved wearing a dress on the show yesterday. It was so comfortable.

So I wore shorts today just, like, embracing swirly summer because I knew that there was a blanket waiting for me at the studio. I'm really warm.

And that's something I'm just struggling with.

But I'm also excited to use this as an opportunity to get more Hill House dresses because I've always felt like I've had. I have enough Hill, but I only have enough for, like, six days of work, so I need more.

I love Hill House.

I know. Somebody get more dresses.

So cozy. More. I heard they're opening up a store actually, in Palm Beach.

[Claudia]

Oh, nice. They have lots of stuff.

Everyone's kind of, like, freaking about it. I mean, like, Hill House X Palm beach is, like, such a big deal.

Yeah. That's like Hill House X Williams Sonoma.

Which Is really, like, move the needle in my mind.

I did know. I didn't know. I'm OMM loyal.

I'm. I am. Oh, my Mahjong loyal, too. But what I've realized, and obviously this is, like, easy for me to say now that I have 100 sets, but you really only need one. Like, you really only need one.

And I love all my sets and, like, I hope, like, to one day have, like, a beautiful display case. Like, how people have, like, craft rooms. I'm gonna have, like. And that's great and all, but, like, I use one.

Yeah. So that's what's new with us.

Yeah. Just really quickly, I wanted to backtrack when we were talking about bears. I feel like something that happened to me, like, I don't talk about enough. I don't think I've ever brought it up on the podcast. Share your truth. It's like the time I did come face to face with a bear. I'm being. I knew you weren't gonna believe me. I know. I believe.

[Claudia]

You do? Sure. Tell us about it.

[Jackson Claude]

It was actually when you went to camp in the northeast, like, it was a big problem. Like, you weren't supposed to leave, like, a lot of garbage out because, like, a lot of times you'd wake up in the morning, all the garbages would be, like, overturned because, like, the bears were, like, out in the night looking for food. And one night it was, like, it wasn't late, but it was nighttime, and we were, like, all hanging in the bunk. And, like, I went to. If you were in a bunk, like, you know, like, they had, like, little garbages in the bathroom. But, like, the big garbage I feature throw away, like, food or whatever was outside on the porch. And I went to throw something out on the porch, and it was, like, legit. A bear, like, on my porch. And I just sort of froze. Actually. I'm having deja vu. I think maybe I have spoken my truth before, but when I think about,

like, all the spot.

[Jackson Claude]

All the great. No, I acted like a champ. Like, boom. I flew back into the bunk, lock the door, and I, like, told everyone to hunker down.

[Claudia]

Saved lives.

[Jackson Claude]

Yeah. And when I think about, like, the great things I've accomplished in my life, they're coming face to face with a brown bear. I always forget, but, like, I did that shit.

[Claudia]

The bear was on the porch.

[Jackson Claude]

Yes, he had, like, so, you know, there's, like, A couple of steps up to the porch. Like, he was on the steps.

[Claudia]

Yeah. And, like, it's just you never know how you're gonna react in a moment of, like, sheer panic. And I slayed. That's at a young age, mind you. I must have been like, 15 or 16.

Yeah. That's good to know that you're capable.

The year was 2009 of acting with haste. Exactly. And I was in this bunk. It was when I went to Seneca. It was like a double decker bunk.

[Claudia]

So, like, the.

[Jackson Claude]

Obviously, everyone wants to be on the top floor, but, like, the top floor went to, like, the cool girls who had been at camp longer. And so, like, me and my friends, we were, like, relegated to the bottom. Like, whatever. We. It's more fun than those.

[Claudia]

I think I want to be on the bottom. I wouldn't want to be on the.

[Jackson Claude]

Yeah, well, like, you know, just like, people are, like, people are obsessed, like, having the top bunk. Like, when you're a kid.

[Claudia]

No, thanks. I'm a bottom bunk. You put your pictures on the bottom.

And so they never knew they could

see pictures when you're sleeping.

They never knew trauma. Like, I knew they didn't have to deal with the bears. It was like us being left down on the bottom level to just sort of, like, fend for ourselves and protect the bunk. But I did.

And you protected those ingrates on the top floor.

[Jackson Claude]

Actually, I never know what. You threw a T bone stake up to the second floor, and I said, so, yeah. That's sort of like one of the many things I've accomplished.

It was like, very, like, King Kylie with these crazy colors. So, like, I get it. I get why we got caught up. But, like, like, me, now, I could never.

No offense, but John, I guess that's the owner didn't even know who PAIGE Paul was 24 hours ago. He doesn't really do social media. I had to tell him the no influencer sign isn't about her and never was it.

And I think that like she represents the culture. But she never said like I'm taking this person. She actually made a great statement on behalf of influencers worldwide. Yes, but so they're sort of focusing on like look, she thinks it's about herself. She never said that.

This person said. This is a cultural discussion, one to talk about openly and honestly in your own community. Community and neighborhood.

Do you like people filming around you, talking on your streets into tiny microphones, recording themselves in your shop? Recording you incidentally, walking past a ring light as you quietly make your way to get a coffee at 8am recording next to you as you try to eat with friends. The list goes on and on. So it's really more of a statement on influencer culture and, and the, and the annoying influencer. Sure. But you and Paige responded to this in a comment. She was in our comments. I know, because someone was like, it's annoying, you know, with people are filming

and blah blah blah and asking for free stuff. Like I agree there are things that influencers do that are annoying. There are accountants do that are annoying. Like so the person commented saying, I feel like the no influencer Sign means don't be in here making content. Like, come and be normal. Don't be an influencer in our store. I don't feel like it means if you're an influencer, they don't want you in it at all.

Hey Swirlies. I need some advice. I just received a full wedding invite to a girl I went to high school with. She was invited to mine a few years ago. I'm a super non confrontational person and severely awkward about social mishaps, so I'm not sure the best way to approach this SOS from a girly that doesn't want to make a scene.

But I think that if you were uninvited after receiving an invitation, it would have been a little bit more overt than like your name not adding up.

Yeah, I think if she went to the trouble of sending you an Invitation, you're invited. And you know, technology is funky. Like, true. Also, that sounds really complicated. Like, that you have to spell your name exactly correctly the way that they thought that you would want. So I would just text her and be like, hi, Invitation was beautiful. I'm having a hard time RSVPing on the website.

Our third and final Dear Toasters Jeer Jackson Turd. I'm a girly in need of advice. My husband recently lost his mom after a fast and brutal battle with cancer. And there have been some really hard family. Family confrontation since then. Lately, I've overheard him talking to himself in the shower a few different times. It's almost like he's in the middle of an argument or having a full conversation with someone. I genuinely can't tell if he's just processing everything that's happened or if it's something I should be more concerned about. I don't want to embarrass him and bring it up. Do I casually bring it up, or do I leave it alone? And it's his way of working out his grief. Sincerely, a toaster who does not want to overstep.

When did she pass? Did it say, oh, sorry before you, like, throw away?

Yeah, sorry. Like, I'm done with the iPad in the garbage recently. Family.

I'm always thinking to myself, like, who isn't? So what's the difference between all of that and saying it?
