Mr. Grinch
Oh, copy that, Cindy Lou who? Here on a pirated signal straight from Mount Crumpet. If you're here, you already know what's been going on. All the Whoville Kids letters to Santa have disappeared, and everyone thinks Mr. Grinch is the culprit. Mr. Grinch has been investigating this horrific crime, but he hasn't made much progress, and time is running out. There's only a few weeks left till Christmas. I'm sorry, I said that in the wrong tone. There's only a few weeks left till Christmas, which means the clock is ticking. So without the knowledge of Big Green Burp Machine. That's his nickname for himself, by the way. I did not come up with that. I want to give Mr. Grinch a little extra help behind the scenes. He has no idea, but I'm secretly releasing this new podcast within a podcast. We'll call it Cindy Lou to the Resk who I've been reading a lot of Nancy who? So I've picked up a thing or two about detective work. For example, the bite pattern on this candy cane shows that Max took a nibble of it, even though he knows it was my personal snack. That's okay, Max. Investigating a mystery makes me hungry, too. So here's what's going to happen. As Mr. Grinch attempts to clear his name in the missing letters scandal, Max and I are secretly going to follow up on all the loose ends that Mr. Grinch left dangling like a strand of tinsel. And we already have our first lead. Late last night, after Mr. Grinch got home from tailing the mailman, I got a weird audio message on my who pad from an unknown number. Exactly, Max. I was curious, too. Let's play the tape.
Cindy Lou Who
Oh, is this Cindy Lou who? Dad, your pal's with the Grinch, aren't you? Oh, God. I need your help. Ouch. Oh, I can't say much more here. Okay, meet me at the very, very end of Chestnut Lane, okay. And come alone.
Mr. Grinch
Whoever that was, he's in distress. And the timing with this mystery couldn't be more curious. That's right, Max. We're going out in the field. Let's clue this thing to my secret scooter route. This is how I get up and down Mount Crumpet so easily. Don't tell Mr. Branch, okay? He likes his guests to struggle. You okay back There, Maxie. Never. Not exhilarating. Now I just have to weave through the back roads of Whoville. This is where the town stores all its extra Christmas decorations. Except we never have any extra. If we have it, we use it. It's the Whoville way. Okay, there it is. Just Chestnut Lane. Let's leave the scooter and move in. We're approaching the very, very end of Chestnut Lane. But there's nobody here. The only thing around is a mailbox. Here. You're in the mailbox. Who are you and why are you stuck in there?
Cindy Lou Who
I'm not stuck. I'm hiding. Well, okay, I guess technically, I wasn't stuck. I. I was hiding. And now, 24 hours later, I'm not hiding. I am stuck.
Mr. Grinch
How did you fit yourself in there?
Cindy Lou Who
I take yoga classes at all the places you'll bend. I miss today's, though. Because you know this whole situation. Hey, I said come alone. I recognize that bark. That's that menacing dog from yesterday.
Mr. Grinch
Sir, I promise, the only way Max could be a threat is if you were a fruitcake someone left sitting out on a windowsill. Now, let me unscrew the back of this mailbox and get you out of there. Hey, if you encountered Max yesterday, then you must be.
Cindy Lou Who
Oh. Oh, yes. Yeet. Feels good to wiggle my toes.
Mr. Grinch
The mailman. Exactly who Mr. Grinch and Max were following yesterday. You're our number one suspect. And you certainly are acting suspicious with your anonymous voice memo and hiding in the mailbox. Start talking, Mr. Mailman, because otherwise we're gonna nab you for your Whoville heist.
Cindy Lou Who
Oh, gosh, you've got it all wrong. I'll explain everything until we go somewhere for a bite. The only thing I've eaten is an old hoagie. Someone thought the mailbox was a trash can.
Mr. Grinch
Why would you eat that?
Cindy Lou Who
It's been a rough day, okay?
Mr. Grinch
If we're moving to a new location, it's gotta be on my turf. Max, let's take him to my favorite spot. Turn the mics off for a minute to save battery. Here we are, the Marioke House, Whoville's karaoke spot that only plays Christmas carols.
Ms. Dottie
All right, folks, up next is Whoville's favorite librarian, Ms. Dott, singing Santa Baby, for the fourth time tonight. Take it away, Ms. Dottie.
Mr. Grinch
All right, Mr. Mailman, it's time to talk. If you didn't steal those letters, why are you hiding from Mr. Grinch? Because to me, it looks like you're letting him take the fall for your crime.
Cindy Lou Who
Look, I'm not avoiding the Grinch because of the missing Santa letters. Okay? The truth is, a couple of weeks ago, I stole. I mean, I borrowed a hair trimmer meant to be delivered to the Grinch. I meant to buy him a new one, okay? But things got crazy. You know, December is a hectic month for a mailman. So many letters and packages and creepy Christmas cards from families in matching pajamas. Anyway, I forgot all about it. And then when I saw him chasing after me, I saw how out of control his fur's gotten. I suddenly remembered the hair trimmer. I thought he was attacking me.
Mr. Grinch
Attack you? The Grinch may be grumpy, but he's as gentle as can be. Well, alright, unless you're a mealworm. Then he likes to put you on his breakfast cereal. But you're not a mealworm. You're a mailman. Which is why you're our prime suspect in the mystery of the missing letters.
Cindy Lou Who
Oh, that's just wacky. Delivering mail is my whole thing. Why would I steal the mail? Okay, I see how my hair trimmer debacle throws my integrity into question. All right. Okay, you gotta. My legs are very exposed in these shorts. Okay? I have to keep things neat, but I'll return it. Okay? I'll give it back to you right now and you can hand it straight over to the Grinch.
Mr. Grinch
Ah, that's okay. But if you really have nothing to hide, here's what I'll propose. Come on Mr. Grinch's podcast and tell him everything you know. Help him solve the case.
Cindy Lou Who
Okay, I'll do it. Okay, on one condition. You and Maxie have to get up here on stage with me.
Mr. Grinch
You don't have to ask me twice.
Ms. Dottie
Thanks, Dottie. That was borderline inappropriate. Up next, we've got the mailman, Cindy Lou who? And a dog. Do we allow dogs in here? Do we allow mailman in here?
Cindy Lou Who
Dig the holes with piles of holly.
Ms. Dottie
FA la la la la la la la la.
Cindy Lou Who
Tis the season to be Jo.
