Zach Dasher
Hey guys, this is Zach Dasher from the Unashamed podcast. And I wanted to tell you about something we're doing this super excited about. We're going to do a tribute for my uncle Phil Robertson. The patriarch of our family, as you know, passed away recently this past year. And Fathom reached out and they want to re release the blind in his honor that we're going to do a limited five day event only in theaters starting on August 31st. And you can get your tickets now by going to theblindmovie.com and here's what we want to do. We want to. We just want to get people to invite someone to the theater that would never walk into a church building, but they may go watch a movie. Because we have seen so many people's lives change by Phil's story, by Kay's story, by just seeing that no one is too far gone, no one's beyond redemption. The grace of God can reach us all. And so I want to encourage you guys to get out there and be a part of this again. That's theblindmovie.com five days only. We're gonna be in theaters with the Blind re releasing it starting August 31st.
Jason
I am unashamed.
Zach Dasher
What about you?
Al
So welcome back to Unashamed. We. Jason, I brought some gifts. I brought out here some of our. We had Duck Commander Sunday. Zach, your kids were here. A lot of people were like, where's Zach?
Zach Dasher
And I said I had to preach. So I didn't. I.
Al
He sent his kids. And your kids were fabulous. Oh, I mean they, the worship was.
Jason
Well, tell them if people are just stumbling about through the earth and they don't know what you're talking about. So they planned, which Al, I'm just going to confess, I wasn't real sure what we were doing, but I was asked to speak.
Al
Yep. It was. Well, revival seems to be the word around here now. So it was a revival of Duck Commander Sunday, which is what we did years ago, probably 25 years ago.
Jason
But we used to do it in.
Al
Church buildings at our church. Right. Because it was an outreach day. At our building, at our building. We invited people to come wear camo. We would, most of some of us would speak. Dad.
Jason
Yeah, I remember me and dad did a couple of combos.
Al
I was working for the church then, so it was my idea to have an outreach day. And we had fun with it. It was great. I mean a lot of people were led to the Lord, So Bella wanted to revive it, which I thought was really cool.
Jason
Bella's Willie's daughter, who's now married, and she works at Duck Commander.
Al
She does. And kind of does promotional stuff for him.
Jason
But I do think I've said this before. She's part of the grandkids that I felt like, you know, the last year of Phil's life on the earth, they were really inspired. He. He really connected with all the grandkids. So I think her organizing it was part of that legacy being passed.
Al
Well, and the theme for it this year was Honor and Dad, because, you know, the Duck Commander, this was the year he crossed over. And so I didn't know how many people were going to come, but there were thousands of people here. I don't know what the number is, but it was this. From this building to the road, it was a lot of people, and it was fantastic. People walked. They brought their lawn chairs and they had a whole day. We did a. We did a. Like a worship time. And Jason. Jason brought the message and Willie kind of closed it. I heard there were a couple hundred people baptized.
Jason
Yeah, I heard from anywhere from 150.
Al
Yeah, they had a Baptistry, portable Baptistry set up. It was really great. And then Zach, your kids and. And Lil Will and the rest of Sadie's worship people, the live original people, did worship. And man, it was cranking. I mean, like, oh, it's world class.
Jason
You know how I am. I'll tell you like it is. That was world class singing. Yeah, they. They started off with us, the old song up from the Grave. He. Which my dad really loved that song, but it was a. Like a different arrangement. No instruments.
Al
Yeah. It started acapella.
Jason
It reminded me in a weird way of the Eagle song that Seven Bridges rolled.
Zach Dasher
Yeah.
Jason
Yeah.
Al
They just started off singing and they were harmonizing. You know, your kids are harmonizing in behind Bobby Bo. Bobby was singing the lead on it.
Jason
But my point is, Al, you can't fake that.
Al
No.
Jason
When you just have a microphone, it was so good. You're in a parking lot right next to a busy road half a mile from the paper mail, for crying out loud. A sea of humanity has gathered. That's what struck me. Look, Al, I don't know about you. So I walked out because we all kind of gathered up before we walked out. And the people. That was at least over a thousand for the. That part of it.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
And they brought their own chairs, but they were strangely quiet. Pretty. They were just sitting there.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
And I walked out and looked around and I kind of got moved. And so I looked over at Sadie, who was to the left because we'd.
Al
Kind of come in the back, so we hadn't seen the setup. Right.
Jason
She. Tears were streaming while I was like, oh, don't look at her. I'm fixing to speak. You know, I was getting emotional. Well, I looked at Corey. Same thing.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
And I was like, why is everybody crying?
Al
But.
Jason
And I was. I was moved. And. And during the worship, I. I wasn't like, upset, but I mean, I noticed tears were flowing down my face just from how good it was. Of course, it was a lot.
Al
It was a lot to me, like. Like the funeral. The same kind of feel because we were honoring dad. But this time we had a lot of people joining us and I guess just us all being together because we're all spread out.
Jason
Was that. That the deal?
Al
I think because we were all back together for the first time in a while too, since that. So.
Jason
But I found it crazy that when I got up there. I never struggle with that.
Al
No, you did great.
Jason
And I evidently raised my voice because I was hoarse the rest of the day, which I'm glad we had a day off in between.
Al
And Jay said, literally had. So he was playing a golf tournament. So he had his shorts on. He was wearing camo, but he had his shorts. Golf shorts on underneath your camo pants.
Jason
Well, it was terrible because I had. You had.
Al
He had a tee time at 1208.
Jason
He was supposed to wrap playing golf. I. I had agreed it's the biggest tournament around here and I play in it every year. So I'd already committed to that.
Al
Right.
Jason
Way before this idea.
Al
I was glad you're able to do both.
Jason
Yeah. Duck Commander Sunday came up. And so I even told the tournament. They. They were like, you know, you going to play this year? I was like, well, I. I have to tee off, you know, after 12 o' clock because I'm. I'm. I'm committed to something else. And they're like, well, that's not how this works. So anyway, it turned out it was at 12:08. So I preached.
Al
And you wrapped about 11, 20, 15, something like that. Then Willie took over. It was literally like a. Like a tag team wrestling. So Jace is off. Off stage, off to the golf course.
Jason
Yeah, I didn't.
Al
Since you two weren't there, I took one for the unashamed team and stood outside and signed stuff and met people for three hours. It was a line that just never ended.
Zach Dasher
Like, I wish. I wish I'd have been there. I wish I could have got.
Al
It was a lot of fun. The folks were so excited to be here.
Zach Dasher
Well, Max, it was interesting because Max had. I don't know how he did this, but he had secured his buddy was going to fly him down there and his. He had like a little King Air or something that was going to literally fly Max down there for free. And because Max had to be in a wedding the night before and he's leading worship. What time did worship start? Like 10:00am or something?
Al
10:00'?
Jason
Clock?
Al
Yeah, I kicked it off and then they came up right after.
Jason
It's fascinating. Well, I was just going to say some fascinating. That somewhere in your gene pool this, this unification.
Al
Almost like it's a surprise.
Jason
Utter yuppievil. And then the Robertsons, because you think, Gordon, you got Jan. And all of a sudden two of Zach's kids are just world class.
Al
Well, they can all see.
Jason
They all.
Al
But, but you're right, they're special. They've got something.
Jason
I thought, well, the five people standing there were equally special. I'm just saying. But two of them.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
Belong to Zach. What are the odds of that?
Zach Dasher
They're very high. Thank you very much. Very high odds. I mean that.
Al
What's that? You're not even surprised, are you?
Jason
You don't find that shocking?
Zach Dasher
I don't, no. I don't find it shocking at all.
Jason
I'm just saying, if you got Gordon Dasher and Phil Robertson on a bench and you walk by, you have no idea who these people are and you just look at them and then you listen to five minutes of the conversation, you would never guess that one generation later, two of the greatest singers I've ever heard would come.
Al
Those loins.
Jason
Yeah, yeah. I don't know. Fascinating to me.
Al
Burst forth from Jill's loins.
Zach Dasher
Same genetic code. Yeah, it is kind of a weird genetic mixture there. But we all, you know, so what?
Al
To finish your story. That so.
Zach Dasher
Oh, well, he's, oh, he's bragging because he's got the, you know, his buddy's going to fly him down there and it's going, you know, so. Because he had a wedding the night before and he. So he's trying to be in two places at one time. One of his best friends got married and so literally two hours before the wedding, the guy tells him, oh, I can't, I can't fly you down. I got, I got too much going on. And so the. Literally, he's got to be. I mean, this is like the wedding.
Al
And this is from Nashville.
Zach Dasher
Asheville.
Al
Wow.
Zach Dasher
Ten and a half hour drive.
Jason
You Know.
Al
So that is not good.
Jason
Nashville turned into Asheville.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
Yeah.
Zach Dasher
So then he's like, can I borrow your truck? Because I don't have a vehicle because I wrote down here he had the whole thing. And so sounds like I was like. So now they. So he left at 9:30pm the night before, drove all the way through the night, arrived in West Monroe at the yalls compound around 5:30 in the morning and. And didn't even know where he was like, what's the code to get in the gate? Called me to ask me for the code to get in Yalls gate. And I said, I think it's. I'm not gonna say it on the podcast. And I gave him the code.
Al
He almost told a fail right there.
Zach Dasher
Yeah, that would have been good.
Al
Dad gave our address his address on. On the Jimmy Kimmel show.
Zach Dasher
Oh, he goes in. I said, you go over to Al's if you can't get in, but just be careful. I don't know who's there, but she.
Al
Come to my house. Don't go to Stones, Al.
Zach Dasher
No. 5:30 in the morning, he showed up and. And he made.
Al
I didn't know all that well. He. Well, he sounded great. And then Layla saying the last song they did was one she wrote. And I never heard it before. And it is absolutely fantastic and amazing. And Lisa, speaking of crying, J, She's Ballin'.
Zach Dasher
I think she said it was their new release, Godsp. Perfect Love. Okay. I don't know the name of it, but we'll actually put it in the. We'll put a link to it.
Al
Yeah.
Zach Dasher
So that people can listen to it. We'll put that in our show notes.
Al
It was spectacular. And she. She did amazing doing it.
Zach Dasher
I know. We have a guest in studio, Megan, who listens to the podcast and she actually used our code to get her Mr. Pen set, which is right there in front of you. Right.
Al
I have her Bible. I have her pen and marker. And she had asked Jason and I to highlight our favorite passage and sign it in her Bible. So she. And this thing is marked up. This girl is doing some serious Bible study.
Zach Dasher
I love that. Well, Megan, I'm like you. I'd like to mark up my Bibles, but the problem is always when you try to highlight something that bleeds through the pages. Well, not so with Mr. Penn. They make some of the best Bible journaling tools and pens out there, including. Are you ready for this? Highlighters and pens that don't bleed through the pages. This is exactly what a lot of us have been looking for.
Al
So I'm. I am highlighting here. I have a pen and a marker and by the way, I'm looking on the back and as advertised, it does not bleed through.
Zach Dasher
Some of my favorite products are their. Their highlighters. Also like their fine tip pens because I can write really, really small in the margins.
Al
Yeah. I have the ESV journaling Bible right here in front of me.
Zach Dasher
The margins have so much space that I can jot down on my thoughts when I'm studying the Word. And you got to check out their Bible and journaling kits. These are great for gifts. Kids are just going back to school. This is a great time of year to. To buy them Mr. Pin products as gifts. Mr. Pin has over 100,000 thousand five star reviews on Amazon. It's easy to see why. So if you're looking for a gift for yourself or somebody else, check out Mr. Penn's collection of our favorite Bible tools. And right now you can get 10 off your first order with our code Unashamed at checkout. Check out the products we use in our bibles@mrpenn.com unashamed that's M r p n.com unashamed code unashamed.
Jason
The name of It's God's perfect love. Well, that was. That was going to be part of my story. I was going to tell.
Al
Oh, good.
Jason
I have an announcement.
Al
Oh, Jace has an announcement.
Jason
I watched my first unashamed podcast yesterday.
Zach Dasher
And you thought of God's perfect love.
Al
Should we. Should he get the thumbs up or thumbs down? Should he get full of fail?
Zach Dasher
Do you recommend our podcast, Jason?
Al
We may not want him to do this. This may be the end of the. Can we do Revelation.
Jason
Can I give you the pot? I thought y' all would ask better questions.
Al
Maddie's waiting on what would happen over there.
Jason
This is as excited as I've seen Maddie.
Al
She's like, oh, finally somebody.
Jason
So what led to that? Why would I. Why would I watch that?
Al
I can't wait. I have no idea.
Jason
We're headed to John 15.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
And what I noticed and pointed out is that. So we talk about God's DNA. And this was on this podcast I listened to. And with this love and light and life. But it's heavy on the light and the life in the first few chapters. Although you have John 3:16, which Zach pointed out wisely, but when you get to 13, all of a sudden it's like love becomes the theme. And I mentioned on said podcast that it's 31 times after that that it. That it's up. So it's like chapter 13, chapter 15, and chapter 17. Well, we're fixed to go to chapter 15. But I couldn't remember. I was like. Because I hadn't slept that week. And I was like. And we talked about that on the podcast. So I was going to just ask Maddie which one it was, but I was like, well, we did two of them on love. Yeah, I remember it was cray. I come in here and I was all weird. Weirder than normal.
Al
To us. That's. That's Jason.
Zach Dasher
He said weirder than normal.
Al
Weirder.
Jason
Grammar would be more weird than usual. But. So I start looking for this. I thought I'm. I'm a. I mean, I'm over 50 years old. Surely I can find this.
Al
You're a semi educated person and.
Jason
Well, so I have some. I have some thoughts, so I thought I would. I mean, sometimes I take inventory.
Al
Yeah, Okay.
Jason
I was trying to find this thing about love. Well, luckily, on the back half of one of them, it said something about God's perfect love. That's why it's weird when he says the name of that song that was.
Al
On a pod on the podcast.
Jason
And it was 11:30, so. But I listened to 11:29 first.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
Because I knew it was two of them. And I was like, I didn't want to cover the same.
Al
Did you listen to it at regular speed? Like, yeah. Okay.
Jason
But I didn't plan on listening to it. So I got on there because I was just trying to find this bit that I was going to do and.
Al
But so you're fast forwarding through me and Zach.
Jason
So here are my other things. Zach's way smarter than he appears. That came out now, I think part of that is my, My problem because a lot of times. And y' all do the same thing. I'm. We're. We're talking about how the sausage is made here. I'm thinking of where I'm going to next. While one of you may be talking.
Al
The shocker of this spot, this podcast, is that Zach could produce children who function and sing and that he's way smarter than he is.
Jason
I thought. I actually am understanding every word he's saying, and it's a really good point. So that that came out.
Al
If Jay started this podcast, Zach, he'd be your biggest fan.
Jason
There were a few other subtle things that were embarrassing, but that was kind of the gist of it. But what was that?
Al
That's all you got out of it was.
Jason
Well, I was a little disappointed in one thing. I was going to bring this up, so. But it was better than I thought.
Al
Okay.
Jason
So I thought that would make you happy, Al. Tough crap. But here's what bothered me. So that came out two weeks ago. Two or three weeks ago. And it's episode the one, because I want to recommend you listen.
Al
1129, 1130.
Jason
Yeah. 11. If you've never heard those before, we.
Al
Get to John, 1158.
Jason
So, yeah, today's 1158. So that's 1129, 1130. Now, we may not get to the way we're headed, may not get to 15, but. Because I think what I would like to give without going over that same ground, you kind of pick up from there. The whole point was for me to say that one thing, but one thing that happened that I thought was interesting and a little sad is, you know how these computer people, somehow. I think they call them algorithms, Zach. They. Now that I'm in, you know, I'm watching a YouTube video. Well, now I got all these. Here's your next watch. Well, look over and it's. It's a frog hunt from Duck Commander that I did on my birthday. Now, I don't know when they released it, but.
Al
But I think I knew that they knew you did they know it was you, you think?
Jason
Who knows? Which is scary. Yeah, but here's the problem I have is that those two podcasts came out twice earlier. What's the phrase I'm looking for here? The podcast came out before they had been out, like, I want to say, three or four weeks.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
The frog hunting video had only been out like eight days.
Al
Oh, yeah, I saw that and I watched it. Yeah.
Jason
Well, here's what trouble me. There were almost, maybe not twice as many, but more people had watched that frog hunt than those podcasts. Look, the podcast was 1,000 times better, way more meaningful than, I mean, the fog.
Al
Welcome to the world.
Jason
They did a good job. That state of America lasted 45 minutes. We went out and caught some frogs. Trust me, there's nothing exhilarating and that thing is just soaring with viewership. But it made me question who's actually doing. Do you think those numbers are legit?
Zach Dasher
Oh, I don't. They're legit. You think they are. They're legit. It's not the.
Jason
Well, it's not the Bible, you know, But I'm saying.
Zach Dasher
Yeah, I'm saying, but it's a. Well, the thing about it is if it's like a three minute or a three second whatever view, they like short stuff.
Al
Yeah. It's the shorter stuff. Well, Jason, also today you're. I Am second video Dropped, didn't it, Zach?
Jason
Oh, did it?
Zach Dasher
It did, yeah.
Al
Dropped today, man.
Jason
Well, they sent it to me before.
Al
I haven't seen it yet.
Jason
They sent it to me, and now I was nervous about watching that because I'm gonna tell y' all right now, I bared my soul.
Al
Yeah, it's something about that setup, that chair that I don't know what it is. Well, they just.
Jason
They were like. We kind of had the little banter before. It's like, well, tell your story. And I'm like, my story's irrelevant. Which is why I've really never gone into the weeds of it. And it's somewhat bizarre. It's not a normal I Am second video.
Al
Is it just you on there is or is sound there, too, or is that something?
Zach Dasher
Well, no, that's a separate one.
Jason
Okay. Yeah, it was just me.
Al
Okay.
Jason
So they were like, we. We want to hear things that you've never shared before. I was like, well, I'm not sure I'm ready to divulge that information. But I was kidding. I thought, you know what?
Al
Jason's treated it more like a courtroom situation. Yeah, he's on trial.
Jason
I said, I'm on. I'm just going to do it. I'm going to be vulnerable and make it about Jesus. Because I think that is the story we should all be talking about.
Al
Oh, it took me back when I did you remember I prayed over you. They asked me to come in.
Jason
And I'm glad you did, because that was intense.
Al
But I knew it is.
Jason
They. They sent it because they were like, we want you to watch it before we release this.
Al
Yeah, well, that's good, world.
Jason
And I was kind of surprised. I just thought, man, that was heavy. That was heavy.
Al
The way they do it and the way they edit it and all that. It's. It's a fantastic. So check it out. Unashamed Nation. And there's a lot of us on there, so it's kind of good. I guess before this is over, you're going to hear from every Robertson at some point, I guess.
Zach Dasher
Well, one of the things we did, and because I guess this is out of the theaters now, but we re released the Blind the same day as Duck Commander Sunday. And at the end of it, they wanted a new piece of content for the Fathom release. And so it's really cool how we did this. Or I say they did it when Phil gives it because the original. Mine was Phil at the end of it. Basically preaching the gospel. And he ends it with, I could be wrong, but I doubt it. And it's like this. It's kind of this classic feel.
Al
Yeah.
Zach Dasher
Well, I didn't realize this, but they got the Pit. They got Phil on camera, like, getting up. They had. The camera kept rolling. And Phil gets up and leaves. Like, gets out of the chair, but he leaves his duck calls in the chair. And so they're like. We had this footage of Phil leaving his duck calls in the chair. And so the way that it started in the blind was they showed that Phil getting up, leaving, and then Jace coming in and sitting down in that same chair and picking up the call, which is the idea of taking up the call. Al
So if you guys would ever do a. Like a new. Would that be on, like any updated thing if you did the movie later? Zach.
Zach Dasher
Yeah. We were talking about maybe doing like a new DVD release.
Al
Yeah.
Zach Dasher
Around Christmas time. So they asked me about that. So I think we'll probably do something with that.
Al
And that could include that.
Jason
How did that turn out?
Zach Dasher
It went good. It went really good. I mean. I mean, it was well.
Al
And I found out I missed it. I found out later they had it. They screened it here at Tinseltown at ours on the Saturday as part of this weekend event. They also had jays. Did you hear about the gar. Rodeo?
Jason
Gar. Rodeo Gar.
Al
The fish. So I don't. I don't know the details about it, but I did see the results and one person, and Jay knows him, he caught a 220 pound alligator gar. Good. 220.
Jason
I thought me and Phil had the record with 125.
Al
I know it. And look, there was another one that was like 180. So somehow. Yeah. Out of the river, I guess.
Jason
I'll tell y' all for y' all that don't know.
Al
That was part of this whole weekend.
Jason
An alligator gar. It's called an alligator gar because it looks like an alligator.
Al
And when it gets. Teeth are super sharp.
Jason
Oh, I've been cut hundreds of times.
Al
Hard to handle by the teeth.
Jason
And even their scales will cut you.
Al
They'll cut you.
Jason
I've been cut hundreds of times by gar. And when you get to 220. That is an alligator. That thing could eat you.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
I mean, because the one me and phil caught was 125 pounds. It was almost seven feet long.
Al
It was. I'll never forget it. That we took a picture of it tied to his jeep. And it was. We were standing next to it and it was way bigger than all of us were.
Jason
Remember, that was the day we caught a hundred. A hundred bass. Statute of limitations. I don't even know if there was a limit back then.
Al
But I like how you have to preface that now.
Zach Dasher
Just blame it on Phil. Phil caught him.
Al
Yeah, dad.
Jason
Caught.
Al
We might have to edit that out.
Jason
No, I'm. I'm positive. I don't even think they had a limit back then. This is. We're going back 30 years here. This a long time ago, but and then we raised a net on the way back from catching the bass. And because there had been a big. The reason we caught a hundred bass, that a huge rain had hit high water. And it was. It was flowing over a beaver down. And so every time that happened, those bass gather up because it's a perfect ambush point for the water coming over the beaver dam.
Al
They're catching all the food coming out of the field.
Jason
That's it.
Al
And you're catching them.
Jason
I've done that hundreds of times. If you ever want to catch some fish and it's raining, you're like, oh, no, all my. All my holes are no good. Go find you a beaver dam where the water's flowing over. You will catch as many as the law will allow. So we run the hoop. We're stressing that and out. I mean, he had to cut the net to pull this gar out. And because the thing is longer than the.
Al
As long as the net.
Jason
And I remember him looking at the gills because it was dead. But he's like, I mean, you catch a 125 pound gar back then, that's a lot of money.
Al
Oh, yeah. And people eat gar balls.
Zach Dasher
A lot of people like to eat them.
Jason
My dad said, what do you think? We were looking at those gills. I said, a lot of money. And so we sold that gar. And if any of the ancestors who got sick from that, God, I don't.
Al
Know, it was right on the line. Well, I knew you'd be impressed, as I was when I heard Lisa or somebody was reading it on Facebook. Somebody posted the results of this gar rodeo. That's what it's called. And honeyhole, you know, our John David's business, they were the sponsor of this event. So it sounded like a big time. I mean, I'm wearing one of their shirts. Yeah. This whole weekend, the mayor was here after you left, Jace. The mayor got up and Mayor Westman, who I went to school with, she got up and talked about, you know, this weekend and what it meant, all the stuff that was going on. And they did stuff all weekend. The movie was part of it too. So it was fantastic for our community, too, because we had. And look, the people I met, you know, in the endless line, they flew in from everywhere. I mean, drove in from all the.
Jason
When you think a couple hundred people walked into a parking lot that wasn't a church building and allowed themselves to be baptized, to me, that. That was just crazy. Right? I thought. What? Yeah, I was thinking 15 or 20, you know, I Don't know what I was thinking.
Al
They just lined up.
Jason
I mean, that was incredible.
Al
So it was very moving, touching. We had a couple of visitors on our set today as well. Kelly got baptized yesterday. She and her husband west are here from Missouri, and they missed a commander Sunday, but were on their way to Gulf Shores and they said they're not going to 30A. Zach, thanks to you.
Zach Dasher
Say you are welcome.
Jason
And just for the record, I spent. Of the 25 minutes I spoke, I spent 24 and a half talking about who Jesus is and us.
Al
But you did the duck calls too, which I thought was good. You honored because that was always a part Duck commander Sunday. We honored people that came because they love to hunt. To your point about the videos, there's a lot of people that love to hunt and fish and hadn't got to the Jesus part yet, which we were saying, come on over. There's more, there's more.
Jason
Well, and even in the duck calls, I've done this the last couple times I spoke. I've infused the God's love and communicating that love because he uses flawed people to now through the spirit. I mean, the first fruit of the spirit mentioned is love. And so I'm like, why do we even blow duck calls? Of course, everybody's looking around like, because their answers are not what I'm fixing to give. Yeah, nobody's thinking. We're basically communicating love, language, waterfowl style. We're flirting with ducks. And so that was my launching point to get into Jesus.
Al
So they also. Jase, I heard this was while I was still signing stuff and meeting people. They had a duck calling contest. And at least. I must say at least 30 people got in it. And some of them are kids and stuff, but there were. There were about four or five. The guy that won it is from New Orleans, South Louisiana.
Jason
Really?
Al
He was salty. I mean, it's. I could tell. I'm, like, talking to me, but I was listening to it behind me on stage. As soon as I heard the last. You know, they kind of get it down to, like, the top five, and then they. They had their own little competition. But I was listening. These old boys are good.
Zach Dasher
Who was the judge?
Al
Who.
Zach Dasher
Who were the judges?
Al
Martin was kind of the mc Godwin was a judge, and I don't remember who else.
Jason
So nobody did the championship style?
Al
No, it was all. They. They did it. They did it Duck commander style. It's a. They were trying to sound like a.
Zach Dasher
Male 10. Who sounds most like a duck. That was the criteria.
Al
That was it.
Jason
Well, Because I made the comment in my.
Al
Jason already set that up. So if somebody done that, I said.
Jason
Our judges have wings. I got that line for fail.
Al
Yeah. No, it was good. It was a. It was a great. The whole thing was amazing. I would assume, and I shouldn't, I guess, but it was probably so well done that you'll probably be seeing it on an annual basis, I would think. I mean, who knows?
Jason
I asked Bella how it went. She said, we're doing it again next year.
Al
Well, there you go. It's official.
Zach Dasher
I'm gonna show up next year. It was a big day. I mean, we also took. This is kind of cool too. I haven't told the audience about this and I think we released it the same day, but so we had. There was a ton of content that we had. Oh, by the way, somebody sent me a video of Jace preaching like 20 years ago. Like, not even preaching. It's like. You're like, It's Kevin. Kevin McIntosh sent me a video of you giving the gospel. I'm gonna have to release it at some point. I need to send that to you, Jace. It's interesting. Never. Never seen before. It's. You and Kevin filmed you and you gave about a 20 minute presentation on the Jay's.
Al
Have a beer. Was it pre beard or was.
Zach Dasher
No, he had a beard. It was like back in 2000, you.
Al
Got to go way back from previous.
Zach Dasher
But it took me back. I was like, man, gosh, it took me back. It was really nostalgic.
Jason
But I'm sure I've made some improvements in that presentation via the Holy Spirit.
Zach Dasher
I did think to myself, I said, I don't think he would preach it quite like this now. But it was. It was. The emphasis on the kingdom would be a lot stronger now probably than then. But I was. But it still was just like, man, it took me back. Like, man, it was.
Al
I remember when you were listening to the podcast, was it hard for you to listen to yourself?
Jason
Well, that's why I've never. I don't like.
Al
Because I don't like that.
Jason
No.
Al
But they'll start playing it and then of course, Alex has to listen to it for. To write stuff. So she'll be sometimes over at the house. But she does it like two times the speed. And it's like, we're the Chipmunks. I can't. It just. That's what.
Jason
I don't like it. But, you know, I mean, the more. I mean, we're. We're in John 14 where he's introducing the Holy Spirit, the more I go along. I mean, what. What are we? We're just conduits for the Holy Spirit. And so.
Al
And don't you feel like the older you get, because you told me yesterday, because you and I run into each other a couple days before the. That Sunday. And I said, what are you going to do? And you said, I don't know. You know, I'll figure it out. And what happens is now you actually.
Jason
Saw me figuring it out two minutes.
Al
Before we walked out. Well, but what I appreciate about the comment, because we all study. We. I studied way more for the podcast than I do now, even for preaching. But what happens is, over time, you trust the Holy Spirit more. One, I think, you know, when you're younger, you don't trust him enough because he's. He really is in control. But the second thing is you accrue things over life. And so you. You get up in front of an audience. And you mentioned it when you started Sunday Jazz, you said, you know, I've always had a fear of public speaking, but here I am. And everybody laugh because the deal is there is something about not only just being in front of an audience, but then being a spokesperson for the Almighty and the Creator. That's a heavy load.
Jason
Heavy.
Al
But you realize if the Holy Spirit lives in you and he wrote the Word, and the more you accrue your. Not only your study of the Word, but just your following of the Holy Spirit's lead, then you worry, much less about having something to say. Then your worry is, I don't want to get in the way of what Holy Spirit needs to say. So then you feel that. So that's the burden for me now. And I try to read the audience like, you were into it Sunday, just like I was. I was thinking, man, what an opportunity to get to share today, because it was. It was so great. So, Zach, this has been a big year for you and I because we were bigger when the year started, and now we're less. Do you feel better? Because I certainly do.
Zach Dasher
I mean, I've trimmed up, too, on the PhD weight loss. I lost about 38 pounds, so I'm down to the. My target weight from doing this program as well.
Al
A lot more of you are trying it, and I'm so glad that you're doing it, because I'm telling you it works. Just look at Zach and I. Thousands of people have found success. Teaches you what to eat, teaches you when to eat, but it also works on your relationship with food and shows you how to lose weight for the rest of your life. And so it does become a lifestyle. Here's a picture of me at the beginning. So I've been a part of this journey now for 34 weeks and I've lost right at £70. My medication was cut again. I'm almost completely off of my high blood pressure med, which is fantastic. What I really love about it, no gimmicks, no shots, no pills, none of that stuff. I mean, it's just the diet and I feel better, so I'm exercising more. PhD weight loss provides up to 80% of your weekly food at no extra cost, which is good. So that's all part, that's, you know, built into it. So Zach and I want you to join us on this weight loss journey. You can schedule a one on one consultation today by calling 864-644-1900 or you can visit myphdweightloss.com 864-644-1900. Tell them that Al and Zach sent.
Zach Dasher
You.
Jason
After the worship. And then they played a video by Phil, I think the Holy Spirit. I just, I started talking about, you know, Phil's transformation with a, with a heavy theme on the resurrection because that's. That was the theme of the worship.
Al
Yep.
Jason
And I mean, that's just. It just kind of happened. And we're all. The crowd had camouflaged and hunters and fishermen and I spent a pretty good chunk talking about what we're called to. I mean, when he said, I'll make you fishers of men. And so I told those two stories, I really couldn't remember what I said till you said that. But I went that Luke 5, where they caught those fish, that was the first time. And it's so powerful because Peter, he saw this happen. You know, he's like, we fished all night. He said, throw your nets in the deeper water. And when they caught all these fish, in that instance in Luke 5, which I never picked up before, literally the Holy Spirit, when I was thinking about that text as I'm just, I was like, is that Luke 5? But I thought it was, you know, their nets began to break and the boats began to sink. It's like it was such a display of power of God. But all of a sudden it became scary because there's no resurrection in their minds whatsoever. It's like, oh, this is great, but now we're fixed to die.
Al
Yeah, people drown all the time.
Jason
And look at our nets. We're going to be mending these for. There was a broken and fear of death aspect to that. And Peter falls on his knees and says, I'm a sinful man. Go away from me, Lord. That was his first response.
Al
I'm not worthy.
Jason
Yeah. In a fishing setting, which for me, before I came to Christ, that was a powerful story for me, and just imagining that happen. And so then I went to John 20 post resurrection, he does the same miracle, but they was. They weren't sure who he was at first, but this time the boats didn't begin to sink and no nets were torn because it was a sign now of the fear of brokenness and fear of death. That's gone, too. So it went from I'm a sinful man to him jumping out of the boat, running to the shore. And then they had this meal with a guy who was dead three days before. Yeah, I mean, is this something you want to be a part of? I mean, that was basically what led to the invitation to who Jesus is. Because I kind of covered the death, burial, and resurrection in those two stories. You probably noticed that.
Al
I did. And I'll tell you this J just to show you how response. It wasn't just the people that got baptized, but out of all the people I was talking to, I had prayer with many people. But I would say out of the hundreds of people that I personally talked to, there were dozens that, as they told me, and, you know, you're in a line, so they're trying to be, you know, cognizant of the people behind them, but in tears, telling me a little bit about their stories and what God had, you know, how the podcast had helped them, how we had helped them, but how dad had led many of them just because of his life, out of where they were. A lot of them in tears, I mean, just over and over and over. So it was very moving for me. But there was one particular young man, and I think he listens. So you'll probably hear this, and I don't remember your name, but he was in a wheelchair and a young guy and his wife was there with him. And he told me about our family and the impact we'd had on him. And he said, I found out last year I've got terminal cancer. That's why I'm in this chair. And he said, but I want to stand up and take a picture with you. And I said, well, yeah, absolutely. And I said, man, I'm sorry to hear about that. And he looked at me and said, you know, we're all going to die something. He said, I just know what mine is. He said, but. But thanks to you, Guys. And thanks to Mr. Phil, the resurrection is what I'm looking for. I mean, he totally got it. He didn't seem like.
Zach Dasher
Did he say the resurrection is looming?
Al
Well, I said that. You know, he said the resurrection. I said it looms large. Then he said, oh, yeah, every day. But. But his attitude was so upbeat. And I just thought, man, this is. These kind of stories touch us because it's like that's why we do what we do. Which is very.
Zach Dasher
We did a. I took. So we had I think 800 episodes of. They're short that they were like. They're just Phil pontificating. They kind of were the precursor to this podcast and most people have not seen them because they were behind a paywall. But we are taking. It's just Phil pontificating. And it's crazy how much of it is around the resurrection of the dead and how much.
Al
So many good. Just nature stories. It's just dabbing, dad.
Zach Dasher
And they're short. They're like eight, nine minutes long. But we've. We're taking all of those and repurposing that content and.
Al
Oh, good. I didn't know that.
Zach Dasher
Yeah, we're. It's a. It's in a pot. It'll be in like a little short podcast. Just. It's called At Home with Phil Robertson, but we released that also the same day too. So it's. And it's just Phil. You know, we tried to do this podcast initially.
Al
Maddie, you'll love this. That was when I was Maddie, because I was a producer back then.
Zach Dasher
You were the producer, Phil. And then we added it. Then we said we better add Al and we added you. And it's four. Jace, who was.
Al
Who was with you? Yeah, probably Dan. Dan was on quite a few of them.
Zach Dasher
So I've got. I've got 12 or 20 of those lost episodes that no one's ever seen. But we're gonna. But we do have this new found or new footage of Phil basically just telling stories and it's all. It's all kind of kingdom oriented. But yeah, we'll put that in. Oh, and one little note. It was the Perfect Love of Jesus Chase. That was the name of the song. Not the. The Perfect love of Jesus.
Jason
Oh, the perfect love Jesus. Well, yeah, I've got a bid on that, but we're not going to have time to get into that. But what I did want to do.
Al
You got one segment left us. What. What are we going to do? Take.
Jason
Well, I wanted a little review. I'm. I'm. We'll We'll. We'll give you time to go back and watch 11:29, 11:30 for the next podcast. Something I think, on that.
Al
Well, it, you know, Unashamed Nation now, you know, Jace is officially a part of Unashame it because he watched two of our podcasts, so.
Jason
Yeah, well, I watch one and a quarter.
Zach Dasher
He's. He's a fan.
Jason
And I will. Well, I will.
Al
And he. And Zach's a little smarter than anybody.
Zach Dasher
Who's your favorite? Who's your favorite?
Al
Yeah, who's your favorite personality on the show?
Jason
I have no. I'm like, God, he doesn't show favoritism. And I have the Holy Spirit. There's multiple verses.
Al
We are three, and yet we are ones.
Jason
But God, I think when I. The more I've read John 13 through the end, it just seems to take on a mission mind from God and Jesus over and over and over again. He's like, follow my example. I'm in the Father, the Father's in me. You will be in us, we'll be in you. I mean, just. Just that those phrases come up so much from 13 to, you know, Jesus accomplished the goal, you know, the death, burial, and resurrection. And even when you get to chapter 20, when he breathes on them, the Holy Spirit, and he's like, as the Father sent me, I'm sending you.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
And I just really feel like the religious world as a whole, especially in America, they're not emphasizing that. And we've said many times, we tend to focus on what we're saved from, which is all great. I mean, look, sin, death, the evil one. But what we're saved, too. There's a job, there's an image that God wants us to reflect, which is why we're made in the image of God. And so the Spirit, which he's promising here, that's the conduit for this to happen. So I wanted to do the little review. We did this. Now, I don't know what podcast this was when we looked up this word for Holy Spirit, where it's usually capitalized, and it either says comforter, helper advocate. Am I missing any Teacher helper? Teacher helper advocate, Comforter counselor. So it's mentioned four times in John 14, 15, and 16, but here's the kicker. And this is what we did. I said, this is a review. We did this maybe 100 podcasts ago. In first John 2:1, the same word is used.
Al
Yeah.
Jason
So the word, the Greek word is para cletos or some people.
Al
And the shortened version Paraclete.
Jason
Paraclete. So the first John 2:1 is interesting because if you look at the definitions of this Greek word, it's like to come along one side and I just gave you the other definitions. How it's translated help. Comfort Advocate has a little different vibe to it.
Zach Dasher

So first John 2:1 it uses John. Here's John here and then in first John same John, yeah. He uses it as Jesus. It's mentioned as the Holy Spirit. Now this is so powerful, it'll make you just go run through a wall. So first John 2:1 says, My father, my dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, which is going to happen. We have one who speaks to the Father in our defense. So there it is. Or what? As an advocate, I think the other translation. But guess who it is. Jesus Christ, the righteous one. So when you go back to John 14 now I'm going to read the last three first because I have something new, which is why I wanted to get to this. So if you read in 1426, he says all this, I have spoken while still with you. But the counselor capitalized the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you. Well, what did he just say? You know, we'll back up and go to 23. And it says, if anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Al
Yeah, which we talked a lot about that.
Jason
Right. But now he's putting that with the counselor coming to you and being in you Remember when we read about the he will not leave you as orphans. That's why in First John 2, he's like, my dear children, you're not orphans, you're children of God. So the next one is in the Next chapter, chapter 1526, it says, when the counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father. And then he names it the Spirit of truth, who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. And now watch the next verse. And you also must testify. That's why I said this, missing the mission of this, right? He's saying, you got a job. There's a job that's going to happen, right? I'm going to send you the Spirit. He's going to testify about me. You need to testify about me. So it's like he's in you. And that relationship is about testifying who Jesus is, Right?
Zach Dasher
Well, if you think about how John the Revelator, when he writes It In Revelation 12, it says, they conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives, even unto death. And so the idea that our testimony, like us testifying about who Christ is, we are participating with the testimony of the Holy Spirit. And it's in that that we are actually conquering the evil one through our testimony, which is quite the.
Jason
Which perfect segue because the next verse is in 16:7. I tell you the truth, it is for your good that I, I am going away. Unless I go away, the Paracletus, the counselor will not come to you. But if I go, I will Send him to you. Well, what is that? It's the Holy Spirit. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment. Well, just stop there. How's he going to do that? Through people testifying and sharing the truth in Jesus. People are going to be convicted of sin that happened Duckleman. Or Sunday.
Al
Exactly. Over and over.
Jason
They're going to understand, oh, there's a way to be right with God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit, righteousness. And in verse 9, in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me, in regard to righteousness, because I'm going to the Father, you can have his Spirit in you, where you can see me no longer. And in regard to judgment, because the Prince of this world now stands condemned. So there you go, Zach. But the first one that I left out on purpose is because I never realized this till last night when I was reading this. In 1416 is the first time this Paracletus is mentioned in the New Testament. It says, and I will ask the Father. Let me start reading in 15. If you love me, you will obey what I command, and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another counselor to be with you forever. The spirit of truth. Now, here's what I didn't notice. I didn't notice that he said, another. And so then I thought, well, what does that mean, another? And now first John 2:1 makes more sense. Because Jesus came to be alongside humans, his disciples. God came along, but he was only here for a short time. That's why he said, another counselor. But he'll be with you forever because he's going away. Isn't that fascinating?
Al
Because they only had him for three years, basically.
Zach Dasher
Well, if you think about that verse I mentioned earlier, about how our testimony with the blood of Christ is, if you listen to the context of it, he's talking about Satan being cast down to earth in Revelation 12. I think he's talking about what happened at the cross and then ultimately the resurrection and the coming of the Spirit. I think that's why that testimony part is in there. It's referenced to our connection with the Holy Spirit. But he says that I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of Christ have come. For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before God. So the accusation is coming from the evil one, which he's still accusing. Right. But you say, well, that doesn't stick to me at All. There's no accusation the devil can bring against me. No accusation whatsoever. That's going to stick because I have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb, which was given on the cross of Calvary. Jesus. Jesus said, it's for your good that I go away. And here's why. By the word of their testimony which I actually receive, I received the word of my testimony from the Holy Spirit. That's that. John 16. How would I know? I only know because he's revealed it to me. And so now I'm expressing what the Spirit has given me. And it's in that testimony, when we're testifying to what the blood of the Lamb has done for us, that Satan has no power.
Al
He has no hold on. The third part of that, Zach, is the crucial part as well, that you don't fear death. He says nothing. We don't worry about death anymore because Jesus conquered that in the resurrection. So it's at the end of this part of the journey. But that's not the end of the journey.
Zach Dasher
That's your guy, your buddy in the wheelchair.
Al
Exactly.
Zach Dasher
And he got death's door and he's like, how, hey, we're all going to die sometime. But he also, you could tell that he, along with our. My Uncle Phil and your late dad.
Al
Yeah.
Zach Dasher
Fully convinced that there will be a resurrection of the dead.
Al
That's exactly right.
Jason
Not to mention that when you read all this and put it all together, Jesus being at the right hand of God as our advocate, is connecting us to God the Father in the presence of God.
Zach Dasher
That's good.
Jason
Him giving.
Al
I like that. Another.
Jason
His spirit to us on earth is connecting us on earth. It's connecting them. He'll come make our home. So when you think about heaven and earth coming back together, think of all the temple language in the Old Testament and you know where they go in there and they want to have the presence of God come. Jesus answered all that by dying on a cross, being buried and raised, and pouring out his spirit. And I think this makes the nature of God in him dwelling with us and us with him because of Jesus, in our defense, is very powerful.
Al
Yeah, that's good. All right, so Jace gave you an assignment to catch up on those other two podcasts. We will make that transition next podcast from 14 to 15 because look, it's some rich. Everything you just said is all again comes out in chapter 15, which is good. See you next time. Unashamed. Thanks for listening to the Unashamed podcast. To me, that was just crazy." | | 39:22 | Jase | "Boats didn’t begin to sink and no nets were torn, because it was a sign now of the fear of brokenness and fear of death. That’s gone, too." | | 40:48 | Al | "He said, 'But thanks to you guys and thanks to Mr. Phil, the resurrection is what I'm looking for.'" | | 53:14 | Jase | "I never noticed that he said, another. And now First John 2:1 makes more sense. Because Jesus came to be alongside humans... That's why he said, another Counselor. But he'll be with you forever because he's going away." | | 55:37 | Zach | "[He was] fully convinced that there will be a resurrection of the dead." |
