Jase Robertson
I am unashamed. What about you?
Jason Robertson
Welcome back to Unashamed. We. So Corey was on recently, and she was telling us, Zach, a little bit about the new season for Duck Dynasty, the revival. Which are you still. You're like a producer or something, right?
Zach Dasher
I'm one of the producers on it, yeah. Had the first episode came out.
Jase Robertson
Really? I did like six or seven episodes of the SEC this new season, and guess who I never saw?
Zach Dasher
Who's that?
Jase Robertson
One of the producers named Zach. I never saw you.
Zach Dasher
That term is used very, very loosely around here.
Jason Robertson
Jason. That just means he's. He's somewhere in the background.
Jase Robertson
Oh, I didn't know. I mean, I'm not making fun of you, Zach, because everybody.
Jason Robertson
So it came out. But Jason. Jason. I had not seen the episode when. When Corey. But she was telling us a little bit about it, and so I watched it last night.
Jase Robertson
So you're talking about. This is the first episode. First episode of the season two.
Jason Robertson
Season two, yes. Wow.
Jase Robertson
Don't get to thinking, like, I know what's happening. I filmed that so long ago.
Jason Robertson
Yeah.
Jase Robertson
And I took Phil's role in that. In that I had no idea what was going on at any time. I just showed up and did whatever I thought I would normally do. And.
Jason Robertson
Well, and. And what they. So I want to tell you about it a couple of things. One is it's. It's an excellent episode. I mean, being a. I mean, being a part of the world, obviously, but then also being a fan and watching the show through the years, I felt like this particular episode was probably the most, like, the original series of everything, all the new stuff they're doing, and I've enjoyed this.
Jase Robertson
So you're talking about. Because they did a. What would you call it? Corey described it, but I can't remember
Jason Robertson
what she said is a tribute to dad. The name of the episode is called for the Love of Phil.
Jase Robertson
Oh, really?
Jason Robertson
Yeah. That's the name of the episode, for the Love of Phil. And you're. You're in it quite a bit. You did some interview bites in it, but they're kind of Setting up because I kind of know where it's going. So they set up like what you're going to be doing.
Jase Robertson
I don't remember doing any interviews. Was it like interview.
Jason Robertson
Interview with Willie is you and Willie together?
Jase Robertson
Oh, I do. Oh, I remember that. That was about. Was very awkward for me to be sitting beside Willie.
Jason Robertson
I could tell.
Jase Robertson
Hey. There was one moment where I literally threw him under the bus so bad that we got so tickle we had to stop.
Jason Robertson
Well, they didn't show that. I wish they would have.
Zach Dasher
We fix it all in post, Jason. That's one of the areas I focus on is taking the awk. And then we fix it in post.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, they may run that later. They may run. No, no, we, we. They interviewed us about all kinds of stuff.
Jason Robertson
Okay.
Jase Robertson
So I'm sure they're going to go back to that.
Zach Dasher
Out.
Jase Robertson
We sat there at least two hours, which is kind of long for an interview.
Jason Robertson
And you probably only had, I'd say a minute worth of bites at different points. But what they did was, which I love this to tell our own ashamed audience, if you hadn't checked the show out, you need to watch it, and especially this one, because for you guys that love dad, and I know a ton of you out there do love dad, you're going to love this episode because it's. Dad's all through it. And they did a ton of his clips and sayings from, you know, the whole first run of the show. And, and. But what. What I was pleased with, Jay, is what I really enjoyed was they showed a lot of bites, including a couple from Unashamed from the podcast of us talking about dad. So they had a. A lot from duck call room, a lot from Sadie's podcast, a little from ours.
Jase Robertson
Oh, man.
Jason Robertson
But they, they. They wove that into the show and so. And it's kind of the backdrop was they're having this. They call them field days. And they were doing all these competition stuff and all that was funny because that was like Christian and. And Jacob and all these rivalries, you know, that Willie's kids and. And son in laws and stuff. But it done and it. And look, I'm gonna admit it. So I may. I did great. Like the whole episode. And then the last two minutes, I mean, got me. I was just sitting there crying.
Jase Robertson
Really?
Jason Robertson
Like a blubber. Yes. I mean, I was. Tears were flowing the last two minutes of the episode. Beautiful.
Jase Robertson
You're crying. And now I'm gonna do something I don't do very often. I'm gonna have to offer an apology to this fella because he said he listened to the podcast. Also, I got off that plane two nights ago at midnight, and I was walking to my truck, and there was a guy driving, like, a shuttle, which was kind of strange because you usually don't see that in Monroe.
Jason Robertson
Well, you know why? The shuttle takes the pilots and the flight attendant to the hotel.
Jase Robertson
Well, that's what it was. And so I'm walking and he said, hey, Jason. I was like, hey. Cause I never know who I know, because a lot of people say, hey, Jase. And I'm like, hey, good to see you. And he said, I really enjoyed that episode tonight. And I was like, it wasn't me. I mean, because I thought I'd been in Phoenix, Arizona, and I was like, I hadn't filmed anything recently he was talking about because. Did that come out Saturday?
Jason Robertson
It came out Saturday night.
Jase Robertson
Yeah. So I apologize. I guess it was me.
Jason Robertson
It was you.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, I was on that show. So. Anyway. That's embarrassing. Well, he's.
Jason Robertson
He's probably thinking, I don't have Al
Jase Robertson
crying and me apologizing, so. Well, Al, we filmed that a while ago, so.
Jason Robertson
Yeah. And I could tell because Sadie was still, like, really big pregnant, you know, in this episode. And obviously that's been a minute. So it was filmed quite a while back, and I was in the. But by the way, there's also some footage from the funeral. A lot of Willie stuff is in there. Yeah. So it was. It was really touching. I mean, I just. And I have to say, you know, dad didn't always have the best relationship with the network back in the day.
Jase Robertson
I'm really surprised that. Yeah, yeah, I'm surprised they did that.
Jason Robertson
And for them to do this, like. And I just want to say, I don't know if this will ever find the ears of people at A and E, but, I mean, I am very appreciative. They did that both to honor Dad's legacy. But then also, Sadie got to really talk about her faith and about the gospel and about. That was probably the mark she carries the most from dad. And so it was just. It was really, really, really, really good. I was super impressed. Yeah. So I'm kind of fired up about the season now, and. And they kind of set up, Jace, what you're going to be doing. We. You know, your kind of role in the thing. They didn't say it, but. But I knew what they were doing when it happened, so.
Zach Dasher
Well, you've seen it unfold in real time. I got to witness a little Bit of it, too.
Jase Robertson
And yeah, you're right. That really. Which is why I liked being involved with it, because it wasn't like they, you know, made up some story or whatever. It's like they. They said, what.
Jason Robertson
How.
Jase Robertson
What is your relationship with Willie's family? I told it and they were like, can we film that? Like, sure. And so they did. It's pretty funny.
Jason Robertson
It is. And it was really. The setup was really good, too. And I thought a couple of times on there. Willie in the filming of it, you know, it's hard to tell with him, but there was one conversation he and Sadie have. They're down there on the river fishing in front of the Willie's river house, which is just around the corner from mom and Dad's place. And I could tell he was, you know, touched talking. It was a touching thing that came across, you know, and you don't always see that in us because we're more kind of throw under the bus.
Jase Robertson
Well, if you're wondering what this has to do with the Bible or what we're talking about, it has everything to do with it because there's a lot in the Bible. Just think about First John 2, where we're. Where we've already gone through. About that song about. Remember when it says, I write to you young men because you are strong and the word of God lives in you and you have overcome the evil one. But he's also in that song, he's like, I write to you fathers because you have known him from the beginning. I mean, these relationships that we have in Christ. I think as older men, we're training the younger men. So, of course, in the episode now we're at a lower level there now. I gave some spiritual nuggets involved in there, but who knows what, you know, what will actually make the air? Because you. In the filming world, we've said this so much, you're only seeing just the highlights. I mean, less than 10% of what happened is actually making it to that show. So for me, it's hard to say what's going to happen because they're only going to show the small snippets. But it's not unlike what Missy when she was on Zach while you were gone. I mean, they have a whole revival revolution of these older women training the younger women to be godly. Yeah. I mean, that's what this is about. And so that's why I was excited about doing it. I'm like, you get me. Get me doing something that's close to my heart. I'm in because I think the world would be a better place if we did do that.
Jason Robertson
Well. And look, Zach and I have appreciated it because we're doing a similar thing, Jace, to what you're doing kind of in the show vein and the hunting world, but we're kind of doing that with John, Luke and Christian on our Hillsdale episodes. And. And the reason I know that is that is because Sadie, when I told Sadie that we were going to be doing them this year again, she said, oh, I know. Christian is so excited. He said he has learned so much from being with you and Zach in that setting where we're studying the Bible. So it's just like what we get from each other by doing this unashamed podcast. Because I learned a lot from you two and when dad was on, obviously, and just exposing myself consistently to Scripture. So I learned a lot as well. It's the same thing we're doing with the Hillsdale thing. It is a way you train. In the last podcast, we left off talking about testing with the Spirit and the idea, Jace, you were talking about the fruit of the Spirit. And then Zach mentioned the Word of God, which by the way, the Bible, the Word of God was written. Men were carried along by the Holy Spirit is the way Peter describes it across history. And so the Holy Spirit was the one that made sure we got what we needed. And that's why the Word of God does line up with the Spirit of God, because it's his love letter.
Zach Dasher
I'll be honest, for a while assumed that health insurance was just one of those things you don't question. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that doesn't really align with how I want to leave my family. And it was also incredibly expensive as well. And that's when my family and I started to look into Christian healthcare ministries.
Jason Robertson
Our big issue is being self employed and the insurance. The costs are so high. So health cost sharing has really helped us. And. And I love the idea about praying for one another as well.
Zach Dasher
Yeah. So what CHM is, it's a Christian alternative to health insurance that cost about half the cost of traditional marketplace plans. And we definitely felt that in our monthly budget when we switched over. But what really mattered to me was that this was a nonprofit ministry. So I'm not paying into some company's profit margin. I'm actually joining into a community of believers who share each other's medical burdens financially and also in prayer, which Jill and I love that there's also real freedom because you're not stuck in a limited network. You can choose the doctor, the surgeon or the hospital that actually makes sense for you. CHM offers four flexible low cost programs for every stage of life life. You can enroll and switch at any time without waiting for open enrollment. And with CHM's care solutions, you'll get access to virtual visits, prescription savings, surgery support and a whole lot more. You know, being a part of this has really been amazing for my family. I know Al, you've also been benefited from it as well. So why limit yourself for no reason? Make the switch today before getting locked into another insurance plan. to realize the future America needs. We understand what's needed from us to face each threat head on. We've earned our place in the fight for our nation's future. We are marines. We were made for this.
Zach Dasher
And it's through the church that the manifold wisdom of God is made known and so like to sit under teachings of other people. And I mean I don't have to agree with everything you know. I mean I mean we're taking these Hillsdale courses. We're going through ancient Christianity right now and like I'm not gonna I don't agree with everything that the instructor says or any of the instructors have said but, but the conversation I mean we did one on C.S. lewis. I don't agree with everything C.S. lewis said. There's a lot of disagree on but man to try to take his influence out of my life and the books I have read that he's written. I've just gained a lot from that. I think it is a testament to passing down the story of Christ to the next generation and what encourages me about our endeavors and how we engage in those kind of discussions and learning and even sitting under Other people's teachings and discipleship is that that's always flawed on both ends. But the Holy Spirit does. He will protect his church. The Holy Spirit will ensure that his church will continue on without corruption. And he's been doing that for 2,000 years. And think about that. He has been preserving his church despite all of our best efforts of ruining it. The Spirit preserves his church. And so going back to the first John, I mean, I think that's really kind of what we're being invited into more than just, you know, getting everything right. It's more of a. Of a. Of a way of life. That's why, you know, Jesus, the whole, like, early Christian church was called the Way. And I love that because it gives that kind of language and understanding that this is something that we're moving into that's very, very relational, and that it's actually a participation in the life of Christ. We become like Him. And as we submit to his will and to the call of the Holy Spirit.
Jason Robertson
Well, that's why, Zach, I love that text. I referenced it a lot on here, from Romans 8:25, where Paul says that the Holy Spirit interprets for us within the Godhead because of our weakness. And I love that because that's more than just prayer. I mean, that context, he was talking about prayer. But that's in everything, if you think about it. I mean, we have a weakness, but he is the strength. And so therefore, interpretively, he makes. He makes it work. And I tell you where I've noticed that. The biggest change in me as an older man now in my preaching is that at one time I thought it was me doing the preaching, but now I realize it's the Holy Spirit's message. I'm just trying to be the mouthpiece to get it to other people. And so if it gets messed up, it's because of my weakness. But he has something really powerful to say. Always it's just a question. Can you get it right?
Zach Dasher
And when you think it's you. And I thought that, too. I remember the first time I preached, and I would say when I hit a home run, I remember where I was at. I was at White Ferry Road, and I hit it out the ballpark, and it was on. It was a sermon or a class on the resurrection of Christ. And I literally. I had this bit at the end about. It was out of Revelation, Chapter one. You know, that picture of Christ that John the Revelator had? It's a very fearsome picture. And I wrote my line at the end of the whole Thing was that the sword protruding out of the, out of the mouth of Christ. A double edged sword. I had this line where I said something like, you know, that he's not your grandma, you know, like he's not there to stir your hot chocolate. It wasn't a spoon, it was a double edged sword. Like this is the sovereign cry. I mean, it was. I did this whole thing and literally at the end of it I got a standing ovation. Like everybody stood up and clapped and I was like. And then one of my elders, Mac Owen was Because, you know, you always want to wait around for the people and say how great you did. If you're thinking you're doing and I'm.
Jason Robertson
If you did terrible, you get out of there fast. Oh, it was awesome.
Zach Dasher
I see Mac and I'm like. And I, in my mind I'm thinking, I cannot wait to, to, to, to receive this accolade from, from this guy who I've sat under his counsel for a long time and respected a great deal. And Matt comes up to me to give me my accolade and he says, hey, anytime that happens, you need to run out the back door. He said, if you stay around and receive the applause, he said, that will. That will corrupt you. And it was like, it was a rebuke. And I was just like so deflated. But it was like this perfect. What I realized over the years, when you think that you're the one doing it, then what's going to happen is you're, you're going to become an egomaniac if you're successful and you're going to be devastated if you're not. And you're, and you're going to become very angry and territorial over what is not yours to protect anyways. I don't have to protect anything. It's the spirits, not mine.
Jason Robertson
You know, it's so funny, Zach, you say that, because I remember the first time I got up at Westbury Road myself in, in a large setting and got to speak and, and I felt like it went well. And, and so I, I get down off the stage and Bill Smith comes up, who's my mentor and my guy. And so I was waiting for, you know, because I felt like it went well, you know, and he said a couple of things. It's not had went, it's had gone. Had gone. And I was just like, oh my goodness, like all the, all the stuff that flowed out of it and it was the one product, the mispronunciation from my redneck background. And then it Was like two other corrective things, and then that was it. And he just walked away. And I was just like, oh, I was like you. I was so deflated. But in the end, it was so good because it was like I realized it's not about me. And by the way, Mac, the same one you talked about on my little cross pulpit, I used to use when I preached it WFR on the backside. He built it on the backside. It says it's not about you carved into it. So then the only person that can see that is me.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, it says it's not about me.
Jason Robertson
Yeah.
Jase Robertson
Because I noticed that the first time I got up there. I want to say a couple of things that you hit multiple home runs, I think, when you were here teaching. But as somebody told me, we also hit for the cycle, which in baseball is awesome. But for the speaker, you're like, it's just we don't have to single, right? Yeah, but you've hit a home run before and a triple and a double. You hit for the cycle, so just don't strike out.
Zach Dasher
But I've struck out. I've struck out, too, though.
Jason Robertson
Yeah, I have, too.
Jase Robertson
Well, most of my strikeouts were in my early immature days. I think the biggest one I had, Al, was at our School of Biblical Studies when they had a little icon. What do they call those? Like, your brand? What am I? What's the word?
Jason Robertson
Yes. It's like Avatar logo.
Jase Robertson
Your logo? Yeah. Their logo is the. Is the perfect word for this. Because I took that logo and that was my point and turned that into the Logos. Because they had preached the word and it was a Bible.
Jason Robertson
Had a Bible and a cross.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, with a cross. And because they were like, we're a Bible school. And so I said, okay, you're preaching the logo. I'm going to preach the Logos. Because the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Preached the Word. Get it? Where I'm going. I'm like, we need to talk about the one who. This is talking about the Word. Is talking about the Word. And even though I still to this day think I was right and had a good point that went over like a lead balloon, don't attack the logo of the school that you're a part of, because they will have you in a chair surrounded by all the leaders saying, what are you trying to say? You don't like our logo? Remember that, Al? Oh, they just. I just made them.
Jason Robertson
It's so. It's so intimidating anyways that because they were all. All your instructors are sitting on the front row of this chapel and your. Your fellow classmates are behind them in. Jace did. It was a clever thing he did. But, boy, they did not sit well. No, it didn't go well because it felt critical of the school. That's why they.
Jase Robertson
And it was. I could have. I could have done a better job.
Zach Dasher
We can say it now. It was critical.
Jase Robertson
But what I wanted to say is I use one of Max line in my speech a couple nights ago. And because. And it kind of goes in with what we were talking about with the Duck Dynasty revival about training these young men. I mean, the biggest problem when we started this, you know, Phil goes on to be with the Lord. So I look up now I'm in charge as far as all the duck hunting thing. Everything Phil was doing well, now everybody's looking at me. So it's kind of a new era because our families have gotten so big and all the son in laws want to come hunting. But there's just a certain amount of wisdom that you have to give because this, you know, duck hunting for as much as we do, it's dangerous. I mean, guns are involved and there's a lot of work going on. Even the work that we do in the off season, you know, it has a certain amount of danger.
Jason Robertson
You finish this story. I have to mention something because you just gave me the segue to do it about guns. I had forgotten about a lot of the early episodes of Duck Dynasty, how much y' all just shot stuff and blew stuff up because they have a montage of y'. All. And it was. It was almost. It was so funny. I was laughing so hard, but it was almost like maniacal. Dad was like a maniac. So he's like yelling while he's shooting an AR into a hole I'm assuming is a beast. Beavers. And y' all are all just like standing on the bank and shooting into the water.
Jase Robertson
And these, these are live rounds. Just so you know.
Jason Robertson
I saw that last night. They showed those clips and I was like, I can't believe, like, they allowed that they put this on air the first time, much less we run. Y' all look like a bunch of
Jase Robertson
maniacs, I will say about season five or six of a Duck Dynasty lawyers started showing up saying, mainly for Psy, saying he must not be allowed to carry a weapon on set because a couple times Psy just went off and started shooting unannounced. And I don't think the people realize these are live ramps. Once he shot at a beaver, and
Jason Robertson
the other time, once he Shot at a snake.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, shot at a snake. And the term ricochet was going through my head because there's just a sea of people there.

Zach Dasher
Well, you may notice I've got my foot kicked up on the table here, boys. This is the old Brunt boot.
Jase Robertson
So I have my foot up on the table. Mine is really dirty. There's sawdust coming out of the boot right now, and they've held up well during the ice storm cleanup. And then you have Zach, who loves the idea of working.
Zach Dasher
Mine are dirty. They're not. I mean, they're not as dirty as yours, but I have definitely wore these while I was working. I'm breaking these things in. Al. These are your Brunt workwear. They're called the Marin boot. That's what Jason and I both have. They're absolutely amazing. I love these guys because honestly, it's the most comfortable work boot that I've ever wore with a great selection of boots, whether you're looking for waterproof safety toe or soft toe or just pull on lace ups. Brunt's got you covered. These might be the most comfortable work boots on the planet, and they are built to last and perform day after day. The founder Brunt is a guy who grew up as a blue collar worker, and he started Brunt when his friends in the trades encouraged him to start a workwear brand that actually was built for them. And what's really cool about this is that all the Brunt products are named after the guys that he grew up with. I think that's super cool. But Brunt's is more than boost. It's dependable workwear, from tough pants to weather resistant jackets. So Brunt was tired of the workwear brands out there cutting corners. You, you work too hard to be stuck in uncomfortable boots that just don't hold up. So they built something better. Boots that are insanely comfortable and built for any job site. So for a limited time, our listers get 10 bucks off at Brunt. When you use the code unashamed to check out, just head on over to BruntWorkwear. Use code UNASHAMED and you're good to go. And after you've ordered, they're going to ask you where you heard about Brunt. Do us a favor and tell them it was from here on this show. Bruntworkware.com code unashamed.
Jase Robertson
I was just going to say that it made me think, you know, the two things that they don't teach in our public schools that I think everyone should know about is they don't. They no longer teach the Bible and they don't teach you about a gun. And so you have young people who go hunting with you. And I'm like, these are the two things I know about the Bible and gun. So I'm feeling like it's my responsibility. Which, by the way, interesting enough, this is like a little meme I've seen before. You can't teach the Bible in a school, but you can in a prison. Well, it seems like if you taught the Bible in school, there would be less people in prison.
Zach Dasher
That's a good word. You reminded me of something that happened when I ran for Congress. And some people don't know I did that. I ran for Congress in 2014, almost won, but did not win.
Jason Robertson
And we lost about 800. Less than 800 bucks.
Zach Dasher
I was, yeah, it was not. It was razor thin. And so we did these commercials and of course, you know, it's so hilarious, like trying to wrangle Phil in, you know. So we had the people show up to do the commercial and, and they had a script for Phil, which is always funny. Like, you don't, you don't. He's kind of like you, Jace. You don't script. You can't.
Jase Robertson
Like we're unscriptable. It just doesn't work.
Zach Dasher
And, and when people tell me like, I want Jace, like now we work together a Lot. And you said, I work with Phil a lot. They're like, can you get him to do this? And I'm just like, no, I can't. No, you get him to do that.
Jason Robertson
Can I divert the Mississippi River? You know?
Zach Dasher
Yeah, but so they get in there with the whole script. They had this whole, like, political ad. And Phil's like, no, no, no, get your camera ready. Which he did often. He did this with Benelli is like, get your camera ready. Like, one take. I ain't got time. You know, he is. And so this was the commercial. It was. He gets up and I'm like, in a. I'm like in a. A pair of slacks and a white shirt, no beard. I mean, look like a complete. Just look like a politician and feels like guns and baubles got us here. It'll be guns and bibles that keep us here. Zach Dasher believes them both. That's why I'm voting for him. And he swapped off.
Jason Robertson
See, I would have went,
Zach Dasher
and I think you had a AR15 and a B. And I'm like, oh, gosh, of course, you can imagine. Like, we got more negative attention. But it was good because that's what you were. That's what. You know what you want. But it was like. It was such a shocking statement. Although it was. It is true.
Jase Robertson
Phil's famous for that. I brought up those presents. I remember Phil. I went with him to a prison somewhere and he got up and he said, I got a message for you. And I thought, what is he fixed? And say. He said, stop breaking the law.
Jason Robertson
What'd they do?
Zach Dasher
How'd they respond?
Jase Robertson
They probably roared clapping. Everybody started clapping. I'm like, they're clapping. They're clapping for that. Oh, my goodness. It was hilarious.
Jason Robertson
The Angola line was, remember this act? You were there, too. He said he looked in because there was a camera going out to the whole prison and There was about 800 people in the room. And he looked at that camera and he said, just because you're under lock and key does not mean you can't be set free.
Jase Robertson
That was.
Jason Robertson
I've used that line before.
Jase Robertson
I got a prison thing coming up. I'm going to use that line. But I didn't finish the quote that I said that Mac that I used in the sermon, because it goes along with training these young guys. Because the biggest problem is when you get out in the wild, you know, every time, and there's a lot of this on the season two of Duck Dynasty, if you tell them to do something, they go over there and look it up on their phone. I'm like, hey, put that phone away. I don't want you to know. I want you to go through the process, and if you screw up, then you'll never forget it. This is not how we do things. And so I forgot what the point was I was making the other night, But I was talking about, they call this scrolling. I'm not even sure what the context is, and I'm not sure what the real meaning is, but they call it doom scrolling. Maybe y' all can tell me what that means.
Zach Dasher
Yeah, it's like when you're transfixed in just the endless scrolling of the Internet.
Jase Robertson
Oh, well, perfect, because that's the point. I wasn't sure what it meant, but I. You know, you've heard this thing doom scrolling. Because I heard somebody say that. I thought, what is that? And I was like, you know what you're looking for? And I got this from Mac, when you're scrolling. And so the crowd was all just waiting in anticipation because you got to remember it was all men there. So this was geared toward men. I said, I know what you're looking for. You know what you're looking for. And I leaned into the mic and said, nudity. And it was just crickets. But Max said that one time. He's like, you know, have you ever thought about why when we get on TV and it's late at night, you know, you're a man and you know your wife's asleep, you're just clicking channel after channel, and it's same thing with the Internet, you know? And I thought, where's he going with this? He said, you know what you're looking for as a man late at night, laying on the couch, you're looking for nudity. And I thought, everybody's, you know what? He just says what we don't want to say. But he said, because if you find it, guess what you're going to do? You're going to stop and part.
Jason Robertson
Linger, linger, linger. Remember the quote, the Jays I read the job quote. You're going to lurk at the door, and, you know, may your wife grind another man's grain. We talked about that with the job 31.
Jase Robertson
Well, I was just going to say, you know, that was part of what they captured in that episode is just, how do you train young people in the wilderness and all that in the cell phone generation, really? Because that was something even Duck Dynasty did with my dad. Remember, he'd take the cell phone, throw it away, and scenes like that. But it has become a problem because it attacks your ability to be social, to just function. Like in a wilderness environment, you don't have time. A bear's chasing you. Don't have time to stop and say, what do I do if chased by a bear? It's way too late, you know?
Zach Dasher
Yeah.
Jason Robertson
I was thinking, James, you said that a minute ago. Dad had a lot. So good. I think he was talking to John Luke and he said, you know, John Luke, a day of fishing is a lot better than a lifetime of crabs.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, yeah.
Jason Robertson
And then he. Then they did that whole bite where he runs through all this, you know, sexually transmitted diseases. We've talked about that, but I was going to tell you about. Well, you brought about guns and Bible. Before we get back to our text, my opening joke. Anytime I'm in Texas, and it always goes over. Dad and I were speaking at John Hagee's church down in San Antonio is probably a decade ago, and it was 10,000 men, Jay. So it was like what you had the other night times 10, because it's a huge church, and it. It was packed. And so we. So I got to open for Dad. I used to open for him, you know, then he'd do his thing, and so I would do some funny stuff, you know, and then he would, you know, be dad. But so that night, I decided to try something, and it works so well. And now I use it almost every time I speak in Texas because I had heard that Texas and their state constitution had reserved the right for themselves to become their own country because, you know, one time they were. Before they became part of the. Of the U.S. and so. And I know Texans are proud to be Texas. I mean, they. They love Texas. So I said, anybody in here love Texas? And they all hoop and holler. And I said, well, somebody told me a long time ago that you could become your own country if you. If you decide to do that. And they all cheer every time. It's like a big roar goes up. And I'm like, well, look, things are kind of kooky and crazy these days, so who knows if it happens? I want you. I'm speaking tonight on behalf of the state of Louisiana. We want to come with you. And so. And they all laugh and clap. And then I said, we'll call it Texiana. And I said, we're going to bring more guns and more Bibles. And then we'll also bring Cajun food and merriment, because that's what we're good at. And so then everybody laughs. It's not A joke. And then my outline to get out of it is saying, and I got one more thing to tell you tonight. Oklahoma and Arkansas, they've got to fend for themselves. And that brings the hoop, because, you know, people in Texas and Oklahoma, you know, there's always a rivalry there. So it's. It's always the funny thing. But it's funny. Y' all brought up guns and Bibles, so that joke still works with every crowd that I. That I do with.
Jase Robertson
Yeah, well, that's true. Well, we were in that one John 4, talking about the spirit of the Antichrist, which is a scary verse, because sometimes it's hard to discern. You know, people are like, you know, I got this from the spirit of God. And all of a sudden you're thinking, well, this is not lining up with what, like Zach said in the last podcast, what the scriptures say, or something. That's profound. On a lifestyle issue, which John is heavily addressing here. It's like you claim to walk in the light, yet your life is not looking like it's in the light. I mean, you're walking in darkness and you're just claiming that. But it is, I think, scary. But it made me think of the book of Galatians, where. Because I brought up that Galatians 5, where you just have this contrast. I mean, he's talking about the spirit, which is the point of First John 4, you know, spirits that are contrary to the Holy Spirit. But if you just read it when he says verse 19, or, you know, you start in verse 18, it says, but if you are led by the spirit, you are not under law. Because the whole book of Galatians is about this contrast of adding to the Gospel, which. Which we're fixing to get into this love section where he brings up agape. Love. How many times now? Like 25 times.
Jason Robertson
Yeah, 25 times. And. And just like 12, 15 verses.
Jase Robertson
Yeah. And I think we.
Jason Robertson
27. I think.

We tend to think like the fruit of the spirit is just like extra things. No, the fruit of the spirit is love. It is the gospel. God is love. That's his whole point. And so when he says you're not under law, you're under the spirit. Because, you know, with gentiles being welcomed in to the Jewish community because this was all about the Jews in the Old Testament. And God, you know, wove this plan and actually became a man who was from Israel. His name was Jesus. So they're trying to hold on to the old law and add that to the gospel of Jesus. And so that's really what it's about. And the reason I wanted to bring it up, because I think it works for where we're at in first John, because Zach was talking about, you know, we don't agree with everybody on everything, but we try to keep, you know, Jesus the sinner. And that, that little speech you gave Zach. Yeah, well, in Galatians 2, before I read Galatians 5, you actually see that in motion, even among the apostles. You know, in Galatians 2:11, it says Paul was writing. He says, when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face. Because he was clearly in the wrong. So he's not sugarcoating this whatsoever. He's like, we disagree on this. And you're like, well, what was he talking about? And he kind of explains it. Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group, which is the Jews. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy. I mean, he's just throwing haymakers. I mean, you call somebody a hypocrite, that's pretty strong language. Even Barnabas, look, was led astray. When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, you're a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs? And then it leads to this famous. We use the next few verses a lot in our teaching. We don't really talk about that disagreement, though. But it says, we who are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Christ Jesus. So we too have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ, not by observing the law. Because by observing the law, no one will be justified. If while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not. Which, in the spirit of how do you test the spirits? If you have any kind of teaching where somehow you think Christ is promoting sinful behavior, and you think, well, that's not going on today. Oh, I've had people look at me in my face and say, oh, yeah, the reason I slept with all these women is it was God's plan, you know, trying to almost promote this sinful life in that, you know, him. And God's got something going on where that's okay in his case. So then it says this. It gets to the. A famous passage that I'm trying to get get to in verse 19. For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live. But Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me. I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness can be gained through the law. Christ died for nothing. So you say, what does this have to do with the Spirit? Well, when he gets to chapter five, he starts off talking about, you know, in verse 18, where we were, if we're led by the Spirit, you're not under law. Now I realize this context was them having trouble with, as Ephesians 2 calls the new humanity, Christ, destroying that barrier that we have with borders and people. That's why he said, go out into the whole world, every nation, and preach the gospel. And so then he defines this by the acts of sinful nature are obvious. Sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Jason Robertson
That's that practicing sinful lifestyle, Jason.
Jase Robertson
That's it. Yeah, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. And I love this line. Against such things, there is no law. And that's why I said this new law, these new commands that Jesus was offering. Think John 15, I give you a new commandment. Why is he calling it new? Because it's in the context of him pouring the Spirit out as he is taking his throne at the right hand of God. He was predicting that to his disciples. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. And then watch this last line. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. And that's why this, when I said the gospel, is love. If God is love, you're in his love. What comes in you goes out from you. And I think that's John's whole point. If you're in Christ, you're in his love. A being that is love. Well, it has to come out. It's not like you have to do it as a side project. That just is what it is. You love one another. And I think that's what he's trying to get you to wrap your head around.
Zach Dasher
Well, it's true when you think about how do you judge, how do you make judgments? Because if these things are coming at you, these spirits that were to make judgment on, a lot of times they're going to come through people. And the way you judge that is by the fruit, I mean that's very biblical. You will know them by their fruit. And so you just look at the fruit production of whatever the thing is, and then you can kind of determine and discern what is the spirit that's behind that. And I want to point out that just because something has a lot of truth in it, doesn't mean it's from God. I mean, think about the, the lie. The first sin that Adam and Eve were told was partially true. It wasn't all a lie. If you eat this fruit, your eyes will be open, and then you're going to know good from evil. That was actually true. It wasn't the full story. And so a lot of times what will happen is you'll, you'll see something and they'll be like, man. But that's true. That's true. But still look at the fruit underneath it, because I think the fruit that's coming out of that, or I say on top of it, rather the fruit that's coming out of whatever that is, will tell you all you need to know. And if the fruit of that is looking a whole lot more like the acts of the sinful nature and a whole lot less like the fruit of the spirit, then, you know, because here's the thing. You cannot, I think this is so encouraging that you cannot manipulate the spirit of God and you cannot manufacture his fruit.
Jason Robertson
Yeah.
Zach Dasher
Think about the passage, the fruit of the spirit. It is his fruit. And because it's his fruit and he possesses it, he has the ownership of it, he controls the production of it. It's all his. We actually can't fake that. You can go to a degree, but people, People can smell it. And I think you can smell when something's not real or not. And you can't fake the fruit of the spirit. It is what it is. I think it's the determining factor that we should look at.
Jason Robertson
When I wanted to say that something about Jay said that the acts of the sinful nature or the flesh are obvious. And what you just described, Zach, is the fruit of the spirit is obvious as well. But this is what happens a lot. It was happening in the Galatian church for sure. And because they had manufactured. I love that you use that word because that was the word I was thinking him. It becomes a church manufactured sin. It's not obvious. You have to build a case for it. And that's what they were doing with circumcision. You know, the, the, the group that had had Jewish roots, they're trying to manufacture that circumcision was now sin. For the Gentiles, because they had not been circum. They were adding to this gospel by manufacturing the sin. And how many times have you seen. I mean, I, you know, I've been. Been involved in church work for many years now, my whole life, where you get into these manufactured sins in churches. I remember Mac and I was speaking to him again. We would go to this text and say, the acts of sinful nature are obvious. And then we look at them. We don't have to then build several verses together to try to create a narrative where this seems like a sinful situation. But I can't tell you how many times church leaderships wind up in that. In the weeds of that. And they get into all these things with people and it's like, why don't you just look at the. Let's just deal with the obvious and then let God deal with the rest of it.
Jase Robertson
Well, I think recognizing. I want to do this bit. I think recognizing the spirit of the Antichrist, one way you can test the spirits. And I'm going to go through this because I really think the whole point of this was when it says, every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God. And that was the big issue that they were facing in this context. I think the technical term for that is Gnosticism, that Jesus couldn't become if he was God. He couldn't become a human. Because look at humans. I mean, look at the. We have bodies and ooh, they go to the bathroom, they sweat, they get tired, they're dirty. They're all these things. They're like, well, that can't be. He can't be a God if he becomes a human. And so they just. Even today, that is still going on, that it's like. Like you have a spark in you and you have to find out who you are. And that's kind of what that is in that teaching. It's like there's no. It looks at everything physical as negative. But I wanted to go back to Galatians because I think this is very profound. Because when he gets to the end of this disagreement that they had, and wrapping your head around what it means to follow the Spirit, he uses the same language John does when he gets to verse 14. It says, May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world. Because John uses the idea of the world over and over and over. I've circled every time in 1 John 4 where he brought up world. And there's a lot of circles. And so then he says, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything to their context of trying to make everybody follow the Jewish laws and Christ. But it says what counts is a new creation. And that's what Jesus brought, a new humanity, a new creation. Then it says peace and mercy, all who follow this rule. And then this one little nugget, obscure passage, Galatians 6, 17, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body, his physical body, the marks of Jesus. And I got news flash for you. He's not talking about tattoos with Bible verses. He's talking about scars. Well, you know who else had scars? Who showed his scars after, after the resurrection? Jesus. He had a body, he came in the flesh, he died, he was buried, and he was raised. And so it made me think, you know, in our age of prosperity gospel, you know, you come to Jesus and everything's going to be rainbows and you're going to get all this. But it seems when you read it, it's the exact opposite. You know, when he says, whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did, when he says, don't be surprised if the world hates you, you know what that means? You're going to get some scars. If you go out there and live like Jesus, you're going to be persecuted and punished. And Paul's acknowledging those scars and as being part of the new creation. And I really think that's the theme, that's the way we need to look at it. I mean, to go back to my silly illustration about don't look up your phone and see how to do it. Learn the pain of doing it wrong so you can figure out how to do it right. And I think that's our journey with Jesus. Even if you're doing everything the right way, you're going to be persecuted because the stakes are a lot higher than, oh, have I kept all these commands? No, it's a spiritual war going on. When you share Jesus, you're going to be attacked, you're going to be persecuted, and you might die. But that's what it means to be like Jesus in this world.
Jason Robertson
And look, if you come depending on when you come to Christ, if you spent any bit of time living this worldly life that we're talking about, not only will you have jazz, you were talking the physical scars, but there's emotional scars, there's mental scars, there's things from past life. And you have to allow Christ to then end bring out in you a new creation. And those scars are there, too. And you're going to have a realization of that. But that just means you've been healed. You know, when you have scars, that that means that healed.
Jase Robertson
Well, that was my point. Figured figuratively, not literally. I mean, you don't want to come up to somebody and say, hey, show me your scars so I can see whether you really have the spirit of God. But I will say this in all sincerity. If you follow Jesus unashamed, and you go out there and live like Jesus in the world, there can be a lot of scars.
Jason Robertson
