This episode is sponsored by Gray toad tallow. Pure and natural nourishment for all skin types. In this final episode of the Graveyard Shift, we hear from a law enforcement officer who visited a witch's house and saw a shadow man that was possessing the house and haunting her.
B
Anybody in law enforcement, you start digging. They have crazy stories.
C
He's like, we've never seen the guy. We just see him, like, darting around the corner. Dude, we got a code blue.
B
We got to run.
C
She's calling us, screaming, freaking out on the phone. Like, lots of weird stuff. She's saying weird stuff. Also, just a heads up, she's saying someone broke into the house. She kind of like peeks up at me and then just sits there. We're here to help. Is everything okay in the house? And she's like, no. Where's your mom? Who's got your mom? Your mom's in your truck. Hey, can your mom fit in your truck? Do you have room for.
A
Your mom's on fire. Oh, no. Hey, everybody. Welcome to this final installment of this chunk of the Hana Cosmos Graveyard Shift. We're very excited to have you all back. I'm really glad to be here on this beautiful morning. I am glad to be here with my co host and friend, Brian Sauve.
B
So good to be here, Ben. Thanks for having me.
A
You're welcome.
B
On this podcast.
A
Yes. On my podcast. And Brian and I both, I will speak for you when I say that we're also so thrilled to have our final guest with us, whose name is Ray. Ray, do you want to introduce yourself to the people?
C
Howdy. I'm Ray. Some of you guys might know me from out of the graves, make music here at ncp, do the catechism stuff with Brian. But what a lot of people might not know from social media is that I have a full time job. I'm actually a police officer, currently a detective. So I think we're here to talk about some of that.
B
Yeah, yeah. The thing about anybody in law enforcement, I've heard stories. Stories from prison guards to, you know, sheriff, highway patrol, detect, like anybody in law enforcement, you start digging. They have crazy stories. And not all of them are just like normal stories.
A
Like a guy's wigged out on stuff.
B
And my theory is that law enforcement constantly has to interact with like, the most difficult population of any area. Constantly? Yeah, all the time.
A
They're always on the threshold of strangeness.
B
Absolutely.
A
Especially when you're in kind of Mormon land and you're in cult land. There's going to be even More of the spiritual side of things, I think I would expect. So that in itself could be a very interesting wrinkle to dize. But before we get into the stories, Ray, what do you think about Hana Cosmos? Do you ever listen to the show? You can be honest every once in a while.
C
No, I do listen. Yeah, I've listened to every episode.
A
So something that we have. I don't know why we do this because it makes us seem very self centered and arrogant. But we're doing it, but we do it anyway. Yeah. What is your favorite Hana Cosmos episode?
B
Do you have one?
C
Honestly, I think it was probably the like multi parter on Skinwalker Ranch.
B
Yes.
C
Yeah.
B
That is. It'll go down in history. That in Mothman, Evergreen. Some of my favorite multi part.
C
I like. I like the Mothman a lot. I think that one just. I think it was really well done. I've just listened to so much on the Mothman because I grew up not far from there.
B
Oh, okay.
C
And so I've listened to so much on the Mothman. I was like, it wasn't a lot of new info, but it was really well done.
A
Are you the Mothman?
B
First question, are you the Mothman?
C
Is this being recorded?
A
I'm sure we.
B
We get conjunctivitis, cameras cut out, it's over. Like we found him.
A
Yeah. You know, I really love the Mothman episodes. They're probably my favorite. Here's the problem though. Okay. Episode two. Okay. Episode two and three. If that was our peak so early, I'm gonna be bummed. Most people would say episode one was our peak. And I'm like, guys, come on. That means we're literally all downhill from.
B
Yeah, we started at the top of Everest and we just tumbled.
A
We've been slowly crawling down the mountain.
B
I think places you should go is number one. You shouldn't go. You shouldn't go. You shouldn't go anyway.
A
Definitely, dude. Yeah, definitely.
B
Well, guys, we do hope that you've been enjoying this graveyard shift concept. I just want to plug this again. If you like what we've been doing here in the month of October, let us know because we'll. We will do it again if you. If you enjoy it. And we set up an email storiesehantedcosmos.com and you can send in your story to us. And if we do this again, we might have you call in or have your story featured on the show. So definitely send that in.
A
Or if you can come to our basement and be in the studio completely, like, you will pay all expenses, all.
B
Expenses paid trip to the studio by you.
A
Unless you're a very special person.
B
Unless you are like, President Trump, I'd like to address you directly right now.
A
No, he's paying.
B
Yeah, he can afford it.
A
He's paying.
B
But we, we would have you.
A
But if you're like one of President Trump's aides, he's like, oh, all expenses paid.
B
Like the Secret Service, too, you know, it's like a billion dollars. All right, we would love to hear your story. Send him in.
A
Yeah, please do.
B
But with that said, any. Anything else before we.
A
No, I.
B
Jump in.
A
I think I. I really want to hear from Ray. Yeah, I agree. I've kind of like.
B
We've heard from us.
A
Heard a little bits and pieces. Yeah, we have. Let's be honest.
B
We've heard from us.
A
I've heard some bits and pieces of this from Ray, and so I'm excited to just dive in.
B
Yeah, it sounds like you've got a couple stories, potentially, that experiences. So basically what we're going to do is just say, however, pace, whatever order you want to go, let us know. We'll try not to interrupt you too much and then we'll talk about it, maybe have questions at the end.
A
We'll do our very best not to interrupt.
C
Yeah.
B
Ben.
A
BEN struggles well, if something. If you tee us up for some really funny joke, no promises, but we'll try.
C
Okay.
B
Actually.
C
Before I even begin, I think you guys will appreciate this. So in the investigations unit that I'm a part of right now, we have. It's literally just like a stack of toolboxes that you hook together, but it's all of our evidence collection. So if we serve a search warrant on a house or something, we bring it with you. It's called your mom.
A
Really?
B
No way.
C
It's the. Hold on, let me see if I can remember. It's the Urban Evidence Recovery Management operations module.
B
Someone knew what they were doing, dude. Someone knew what they were doing.
C
Oh, yeah.
B
Someone is our guy.
C
And. And it's over the air, you know. Hey, where's your mom? Who's got your mom? Your mom's in your truck. Hey, can your mom fit in your truck? Do you have room for your.
A
Your mom's on fire.
B
Oh, no, dude, we need your mom's. Dad.
A
Your mom's been stolen.
B
Your mom. Everything's compromised. Your mom is gone.
C
Yeah, that is.
B
Thank you for sharing that.
A
That's amazing.
B
Thanks for coming on. It's been great this time, the whole thing.
A
Signing off.
B
We just brought him on for that.
C
Hope you guys enjoyed so.
B
Yeah. Wow.
C
Thank you.
B
Hey, Ben, I just read that our great grandparents probably experimented with butter on their dry skin as a moisturizer. Is that why you look so radiant?
A
Maybe it's Grandma's Butter recipe. Or maybe it's Gray Toad tallow.
B
Their tallow products are 100% organic and naturally contain the good stuff your skin craves. No mystery there.
A
So say sayonara, Sammy to kitchen experiments. And say hello to healthier skin Great o tallow Trusted by skin Envied by Great Grandma's Butter Recipe.

A
Brian, I got bad news the other day. I was using one of the big box soap products to wash myself, and I got this weird urge to go buy a Stanley cup and fill it with iced coffee. And it started to feel a little cold in the house. I just wanted to wrap myself up in, like, a heavy wool blanket. And then also, I started googling ticket prices to Taylor Swift concerts.
B
Ben, what are you doing? Don't you know that these big box soap companies just jam all their soaps full of hormone disrupting chemicals? They're probably turning you into.
A
Into a girl. Well, I know that now, but what am I supposed to do about it then?
B
You ignorant Normie, all you've needed to do is go to indigosundrysoap.com and support a great Christian family business that's making all sorts of soaps that are completely free of hormone disrupting chemicals and other nasties.
A
Okay, I am literally going to indigosundrysoap.com right now. Tell me what to buy.
B
Ben, what I would recommend doing is clicking on bundles and then selecting the best one for you. You could get the men's six pack. You could get my favorite, the clay bundle.
A
Ooh, I like the Pipe and Ju bundle. That seems cool. Or a men's six pack, because that'll make me feel like I have something that I actually don't.
B
So true, King. And you know what else I heard? Because they're such good friends of the show, Indigo Sundry Soap Company is offering 10% off your order if you just use all caps, discount code. Haunted Cosmos, no spaces.
A
Wait, Brian, you're going way too fast. I didn't get all that. Is that information in the show description?
B
Ben, you ignorant Normie. It's always in the show description.
A
Okay, so I'm gonna go to indigosundrysoap.com I'm gonna pick the men's six pack bundle and I'm gonna use code Haunted Cosmos at checkout. All caps, no spaces. And if I forgot all that, it's in the description of the show.
B
Of course, Ben. And if you just do that, then you will stop wanting to do all of those girly things and maybe you'll, I don't know, maybe wanna buy a classic car to restore or something dignified. The nighttime is crawling with dangerous creatures. Bigfoot, sleep paralysis demons, the Mothman. Now imagine what would make them even more terrifying. That's right, guns. Cryptids with guns. That's where Armored Republic comes in. They equip law abiding citizens to stand against the unthinkable. Even if it's a gun wielding devil worshipping Bigfoot. JOIN to 88027 to get involved in the preparedness effort. Man, Ben, I knew we were handsome, but I didn't know we were that handsome until I saw our recent Haunted Cosmos thumbnails.
A
Yeah, your skin looks so velvety smooth.
B
I mean it's unbelievable. Chris at New Dominion Design company did an absolutely fantastic job not only on those thumbnails but on our recent book cover as well.
A
Yeah, exactly. And if you need some design work from Chris, you should go to newdominiondesignco.com get started there and he'll serve you right, man.
B
He will make you look 50% as handsome as Ben, guaranteed.
C
Yeah, there's a lot of strangeness that you encounter and I mean some of it is like, is it drugs, is it demons? I don't know, probably both, right?
B
Yeah, the one, they go hand in hand.
A
Do I respect myself?
C
Yeah, you know, because I've had, I've had a handful of encounters. Whether it's like making an arrest or even for the brief time that I worked in the jail. Some of the behaviors, people changing voices, kind of going, going nuts, that kind of thing. But yeah, a couple of the, the encounters that really stand out to me, you know, I've had a couple interesting ones with Mormon churches working graves. You know, you get called out to a lot of burg alarms, possible, you know, possible burglaries, that kind of thing. So like I had one actually, not far from my house. The maintenance guy called in. It was a Mormon church. I think someone was like locking up after an event Called maintenance and was like, hey, I think someone's in the building. Maintenance guy shows up. He's like, hey, there's no one here. And then right as he's going to, like, lock the last door, a door slams inside. So he calls us. We go in, clear the building. Building's empty. So that, I mean, like, that kind of stuff, I think happens pretty frequently.
A
Can I just say. I know what I say. Can I just say, you know, you were saying, like, you're working graves, but now as a detective, you've been called out of the graves, out of the.
B
Grave into the graveyard shift.
C
Yes.
A
So we're full circle.
B
Also, while we're interrupting you, I, sir, You know, I worked as a church janitor for years in my young adulthood, like early in our. Not our marriage, but my marriage to my wife. And it is one of the freakiest jobs to be just like. It was like 100,000 square foot facility that I worked at and we would have to lock up. You're the last guy there. What you just described is nightmare fuel.
A
Oh, dude.
B
And this was before I carried a device which YouTube doesn't like us to.
A
Speak about, a blunt force trauma device.
B
Attached to my person. I was too young at the time even. I was like 18 or something.
C
Yeah.
B
So nightmare fuel.
A
But go on, dude. Just on that point, while we're still interrupting you, I was also a church janitor for some years at this church.
B
Oh, basically.
A
Effectively, yeah. More or less now, much smaller, but.
B
Like old, very creepy.
A
And, dude, I remember I would have challenges with myself where psalms sing in the winter time. You're closing up down in the basement and you got to walk up that.
B
Dude.
A
And there's like, there's the door. There's the dungeon door behind you. And I'm like, there's a being crawling out of that.
B
And there was like.
A
And so it was always like, don't run up the stairs.
B
And it was like a church with lady pastors before us. So the demons were everywhere.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, so Ray story number two.
C
No, I. There was another time we got called out to another Mormon church, and this one kind of came in a little bit hot, like it was a berg in progress. We have Susan suspects in the building kind of a thing. So a handful of us show up and we start talking to some people, and it was like a bunch of kids, and they were like, yeah, we walked out and then we came back and the door was locked. And so we're like, okay, so did you just lock the door? How do you know, someone's in there. They're like, no, we. We called the janitor or, like, the maintenance guy. The maintenance guy called you and said, there's someone in the building. So we go in. The maintenance guy ended up taking forever to get there, and someone showed up with, like, a key for the basketball game or something. So we go in, and, I mean, this is like, okay, we're going in. We, as a unit, we've got guns out, where we clear the whole building. We. We go through the whole thing, top to bottom, completely empty. No signs of anyone being inside, anything like that. So as we're kind of finishing up, the maintenance guy shows up. So we start questioning him. We're like, hey, man, why did you call this in as active Bergen Progress? Like, what's going on? He's like, well, no, this has been going on for a while. I think someone lives in the building. Oh. Because we've been doing a bunch of, like, remodeling and maintenance projects. And so, you know, me and my guys, like, we frequently have incidents where people are stealing our tools, doors are being locked on us, or, like, we'll see. He's like, we've never seen the guy. We just see him, like, darting around the corner, dude, you know?
A
Nope.
C
Yeah. And so he's kind of, like, walking us through. So we go back through the building now with the maintenance guy. We're like, look, we've already cleared this thing top to bottom. Like, you know, walk us through it. And it's funny, because we go in this little room, and. And Mormon churches are. Are kind of strange. Like, they're. They're very different, and they have, like, little sanctuaries, and they have bigger sanctuary rooms, and, you know, all the classrooms and the walls are always very bland and kind of, you know, it's like the back rooms.
B
Yeah.
C
Yeah, kind of. But he took us into this one room, and we already been there. It was, like, kind of what you'd imagine a church sanctuary, but, like, really small. And it was like a little. This little chapel. There was a pulpit. There was a stage. There was a choir loft. And then there were pews. And I just remember, like, going. I was just walking back through the room at one point, and I found a little toolbox. And it's as he's, like, describing seeing someone dart around the corner, that kind of thing. He's like, we'll come in, we'll lock all the doors, and then someone will, like, dart around corners. Our tools will start disappearing or they'll appear in rooms where we haven't been. And then as I'm walking, I found, like, a box of drill bits. And I picked it up and I was like, oh, are you guys doing work in this room? He's like, no, we don't come in here. I was like, okay, well, I just found this on the floor. And he grabs it and he's like, this came out of my truck. He's like, this. I don't even use this in here. Like, it has my name on it. It came out of my truck, dude.
B
What the. Like the truck that he drove there that night?
C
Yeah, yeah.
B
Oh, come on. Do you think that that, like, this is skinwalker ranch stuff?
A
Well, okay. Poltergeist.
B
Yeah, like, when he stole. He had the post hole.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, tool. And he's putting the fence post in.
B
And it weighs like, 80 pounds. What happened with multiple of his tools? But that was. And he finds it in a tree, like, 80 yards off the ground.
A
Yeah, 80 yards off.
B
It was huge. It was way high.
A
Massive trees.
B
80Ft. Holy cow, dude, I tried to go metric.
A
It's 80 pounds and it's 80 yards.
B
Dude, this yards even metric or it's meters.
A
Metric yards and feet are English meters. It's imperial.
B
So I did. I still did Imperial.
A
No, you did.
B
Isn't imperial English Ours? Yeah, no, and then metric is.
A
I think metric is.
B
Look it up, guys, I'm correct about this. Vindicate me in the comments.
A
You probably are like, that's crazy. Could be a squatter, though.
C
Yeah, yeah, it could be. I mean, at that point, we checked the building. I mean, we even went. This. This particular building had a. A flat roof. And then later a peaked roof was added on. So their attic space was a rooftop.
B
Yeah.
C
And so we. I mean, we went through the roof access. We walk the roof. We went through. They have all of their. At least in this building, all of their air conditioning units and air handlers and stuff are in, like, tunnels under the building. And actually that little, like, chapel where I found the toolbox, the access was there, like, on the stage. It was like a trap door. And.
A
Come on. It's like fan of the opera stone.
C
Come on. Well, this is like right around the same time that the, like, Jewish tunnel thing in New York.
B
Okay. So you're thinking, well, me and my.
C
Buddies, like, we go tunneled up.
A
The tunnels are speaking Yiddish into the Mormon terms. So.
C
But we. Yeah, I mean, we even went in there. We crawled through a bunch of tunnels. Like, nothing. No camping gear. No.
A
That's crazy. So it's definitely a.
B
Did you hear, like, in the. In the distance, in the tunnels, like, shama, you just. You're like, we got a code. We got a code blue. We gotta run.
A
Nothing to see here.
C
That's the point where I just go, la, la, la, la, la, la.
B
I hear nothing.
A
Did you ever see that video of the guy who, like, he kept thinking that food was being stolen out of his fridge? And he was like, am I sleepwalking or something? Cause he would find the food in the trash can, so he's like, am I eating it and forgetting? So he set up a camera in his kitchen, and he went to bed. And then the creepiest looking woman crawls out of his air vent. Like, Russian style. Whatever.
B
Like the grudge.
A
Yeah, like, the grudge. Like, where. And they can, like, contort them. Like a contortionist. Yeah, that's the word I'm looking for. Like a small, grudgy contortionist. And she's, like, standing there and she's feeling around with her feet to, like, find the way down. She has it. I mean, dialed.
C
Dialed.
A
And then she. When she gets to the fridge, she just opens it up and starts pounding the milk.
B
Like, kind of as far as having people secretly living in your house, like, one of the milder things for them to do. Right. But that opportunity.
A
But still, like, I want you to put yourself in that guy's shoes, dude. Okay. The next day, you take the camera down and you.
B
You look up at that vent. There's just.
A
That would be.
B
So anyway, I started laughing.
A
Terrifying.
B
They're resisting.
A
No, man. That's crazy. The fact that y' all went and, like, looked at the roof, looked in the tunnels, and there was still nothing.
C
Yeah.
B
Not even any, like, gear, like, shadow.
C
Absolutely nothing.
B
Yeah.
A
Yeah. Because it's always the periphery and.
C
Yeah. Okay. Wow.
B
So you just tell him, like, good luck. Yeah.
C
We're just like, all right, man. We didn't find anything. Have a good night. We literally walked out, and the guy that I was with, like, is not a Christian or anything. And he just looks at me and he's like, it's demons. And I just looked at him. I was like, it is.
A
I mean, it would be the place for it. A Mormon church. Like, demons like it there, so.
B
And all of our Mormon listeners, we've made.
A
We've made our position very clear.
B
Email us and we'll talk.
C
We'll. We'll talk.
B
Yeah. Anyway.
C
Yeah.
B
Wow.
C
So that.
B
Were those. The same incident? Like, those were two different.
C
Different buildings, different nights, different I think those were probably almost a year apart.
B
Yeah. That's crazy. I used to be the maintenance guy that they would call the alarm company when the alarm was going up. It was always because someone had a key that shouldn't and they just opened it and didn't know the code. But it was always like 10 o' clock at night, 11 o' clock at night. And I'm like, I am 18, I have no weapons. What am I gonna do?
A
Dude, one time you texted me at 3:30 in the morning.
B
Okay.
A
And I happened to be peeing. And it was a Sunday morning. It was a Sunday morning. And I looked at my phone and your text said, the neighbors are telling me that the lights in the church are flickering on and off really quick. Can you go check it out?
B
Did I really?
A
Yeah, I was so real and I was. And I was like, sure you said yes.
B
I would have said no.
A
So I came here at like 4am and I went, dude, I'm so glad no one looked at the cameras because I was like, I had my weapon drawn and I was terrified. I was looking around course, like, you.
B
Were like John Wick.
C
You were like you fully.
A
Yeah. I did like so many press checks.
B
How many? One hand still loaded. Did you. How many people did you.
A
None.
B
None.
A
None officially. I'm so sorry.
B
What happened was I bet I was actually in process of writing the sermon.
A
Oh, yeah, I'm sure you were because.
B
That is the only reason I would have been up.
A
So.
B
All right. Wow. Thank you for sharing that.
A
We're not.
B
We're not doing. But wait, there's more.
C
Yeah, I do. I do have another story for you guys. This is. This, this. It's kind of been building. Okay. This is the.
B
Let's go.
C
Yeah. Now this one was pretty gnarly.
A
This was just the amuse bouche.
B
We won't interrupt you. Next thing that does this is just the amuse boosh. He's using creepy French.
A
I was just always wanted to say French type stuff. Any of my psych fans out there put in the comments what I'm referencing when I say, hey, that was just the moose boost.
B
Okay, go ahead.
C
So pretty early on in my career, I was like, maybe just a couple months off of training. Because when you become a cop, you go through like you, you go through the academy, which is like six months, and then you go through usually like three to four months of on the job training where you're actually answering 911 calls. You're out there, but you're partnered up with someone and yeah, so I was like a few months off of that. I just remember it was the winter time, probably like February, March around here. And I got this weird call. It was right at the end of the day because I was on day shift at this time. But the call came in at like 5:30 or something. Our shift ended, it's at 6. So I get dispatched out to this call and the sun's starting to go down. And the call notes are real weird. So the, the notes were like, it was like a third party report. These people were calling in, said, hey, our son is in jail currently. His girlfriend is staying in his house, which we own. She's calling us, screaming, freaking out on the phone, like lots of weird stuff. She's saying weird stuff. We think she's on drugs. Can you just go essentially do like a welfare check?
B
Yeah.
C
Also just a heads up, she's saying someone broke into the house. We don't think it's real. She's known to use drugs.
B
Thank you, service.
C
Just so you know. So we start going out there and my supervisor is kind of rolling out with me and the guys for the night shift are starting to sign on. So we're like, hey, can we get a few more out to this house? We're already en route. So I show up first and the way this was set out, it's like you have the road and then there's a house right on the road and then a dirt driveway that goes back like a quarter mile and it's the house back there. Oh good, that we're being dispatched to further from civilization. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So I pull up and I can kind of get eyes on the house. I can see that the lights are on in the living room. It's a big picture window, some cars parked around. But one of the things I noticed right off the bat, ground still covered in snow and there are no footprints. Okay, so, okay, that's a clue, right? Yeah. And of course I haven't been all the way around the house, but I'm gauging that from the front. So my supervisor shows up a couple minutes after me. We start walking up together. As I get to the porch, I can see in that picture window the girl inside the house is just sitting on the couch like watching tv.
A
That right there is already very creepy.
C
Yeah, yeah, because we've had this like panicked call, you know. Supposedly she hasn't called 911 though. She's been calling her in laws or her boyfriend's parents. Freaking out. But. So as I'm walking Up I see her sitting on the couch, real casual. So come up. Just knock on the door. She kind of like peeks up at me and then just sits there. And so I'm knocking again. I start knocking on the window and I'm like, hey, police, come to the door. We need to talk to you. Please come to the door. So she kind of like gets up, like, shuffles over to the door and just barely cracks it and peeks out. And I'm like, ma', am, are you okay? You know, we're here to help. Is everything okay in the house? And she's like, no. And I was like, no. Yeah. She's like whispering, okay. So I'm like, okay, you need to step out and talk to me. Is there someone else in the house? And she's like, he's here right now. Okay.
A
And for that reason, I'm out. You.
B
You go. You get in the car.
A
Well, good luck.
C
Well, have fun.
B
We, Ben and I would be terrible officers of the law. I've seen this movie. I'm not going.
C
Yeah. And of course, I'm like, a few months on the job, right? So I'm like, kind of starting to sweat. You know, my heart rate's getting up. But also, we can't leave, right?
B
So.
C
Yeah. I'm like, okay, please, please step out of the house. We need you to come out. She's like, he won't let me. I can't leave the house. And so at that point, it, okay, well, then we're coming in, right? Like your safety, everybody's safety involved. We're coming inside. So at that point, I kind of pull the door and take a step in the house. And I'm kind of still looking at my supervisor for some cues here. I'm like, hey, how far are we taking this? You know? And he's like, well, I'll just, I'll just talk to her. And we're looking around. The house is peaceful. The house is, like, actually shockingly clean. It's a pretty normal looking house. And so, you know, I'm just asking her, where's he at? Where is he in the house? Has he hurt you? She's like, I don't know where he's at.
B
I just.
C
I just know he's in the house. Okay, how long has he been here? And she's like, he's been here for a few days. I. I just, you know. Okay, so. And we're trying to gauge a little bit of a picture. Right. Like, she's not quite seeming normal.
A
Yeah.
C
But she's also not seeming, like, completely high on something. You know, she's not. She's not tweaking like she's on meth or anything like that. So we basically came to the point, like, other units are still en route. We might have a suspect in the house. We don't know what's going on. And honestly, I don't remember why this decision was made, because I don't think this decision would be made at this point in my career. But for whatever reason, I drew my gun, and I was like, hey, I'll go check the house. And my supervisor was like, have. All right, I'll stay with her.
B
This is normal. Yeah, yeah, go ahead. By yourself.
C
I start, you know, clearing the house. I'm going out. I got my gun out. I'm, you know, checking everything. All the corners, all the closets. And as I move through the house, like, everything seems normal. Like, nothing looks broken. Nothing is busted. There's no mess anywhere. There's no dirt. As I'm kind of, like, finishing up, we've got people who are now showing up, and they're outside checking the outside of the house. Hey, guys, there's a pickup truck in the driveway. Check that. Check the back door. Check. You know, and I'm. I'm hearing on the radio, hey, we're not seeing any footprints out here. There's nothing going on. So I think it had snowed, like, a day or two before. So we're like, okay, if anyone's in there, he's been camping out for a while.
A
Yeah.
C
He's not. Yeah. So I'm kind of finishing up with the house. I get to the last room, and I pop the door, and I kind of peek in, and I. I come in, and as I start panning around the room, I just see along one wall, there's a workbench. There are, like, dream catchers and things. There's a giant pentagram on the wall. There's literally a stack of, like, spell books. I see candles, bones out on the table. Yeah. And super freaky, right?
B
You're like the dog in the fire meme. This is fine.
C
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
B
This is fine.
C
Kind of a combination of that and, like, Homer Simpson, like, backing back.
B
So I back.
C
Back out. I go back into the living room. She's now sitting on the couch. Medical's there. They're checking her out. And right as I walk in, I'm kind of hearing medical. Like, hey, her vitals look fine. Everything looks normal. Like, we really. Like, there's no medical emergency. We can't Force her out. Nothing like that. And so I. I just kind of step in, and I said, okay, ma', am, can I ask you a few more questions? And she's like, sure. And I said, okay. So when did he first show up? Like, when was he. How long has he been here? And she's like, I think it's been three days. I don't know. He won't let me leave. I don't remember how many days it's been, you know, that kind of thing. And so I said, okay, what does he look like? Can you help me understand? Because I've searched your house. I didn't find anyone. Tell me what he looks like. And she says, well, I don't know. I don't know what he looks like. He just stands in the shadows and whispers to me, okay, okay.
A
So the devil is the guy that was in her house for three days? Yeah, dude, that is so messed up.
B
He stands in the corner. So did Joel. What did you.
A
What? Like, how did it end?
B
What next?
C
Honestly, and this is sad, but I looked at her and I said, okay, ma', am, where can we take you? Like, I would like to take you somewhere safe. Clearly, you are not okay here. Yeah. She's like, no, I'll just stay here. I'll just stay here. And we had no. No legal cause. We couldn't force her to leave. Medical couldn't force her to leave. So ultimately, we literally ended by saying, okay, ma', am, if anything happens, if you're in danger, please call us. You know, we're. We're happy to come any time of the night, dude. Have a good night.
B
And so you close the door on the woman and her demon.
C
Yeah. And then we left, and I went back to that house. It was probably like a year and a half, almost two years later, for one of the most violent assaults, like, I've encountered. And it was her. It was her and the boyfriend, and he almost killed her. I mean, like, it. She comes running out of the house, like, covered in blood. It was, like. It was gnarly, but it was the same people living in that house.
B
Yeah.
A
Oh, my goodness.
C
Hey, guys, this is Ray from the band out of the Graves. It's a sad fact that most of the music that I listen to seems to fall under two categories. One, it's either made by dudes who used to claim Christ 10 years ago and no longer do, or it's made by a bunch of dudes who never claimed Christ at all. Here at New Christendom Press, we say that Christians should make the best art and out of the Graves is part of that mission. There's a reason we call it post mill rock and roll. So if you're looking for music to wage war on pagan art, check out out of the Graves anywhere you listen. So so you believe the aliens are demons?

Hey Brian, have you ever wondered what Sasquatch's feet smell like after a long journey through the wilderness?
B
Absolutely not. But I have wondered about what a Dwarven forge smells like after I visit a Gothic cathedral that sits right next to the alchemist.
A
Whoa. Well, hey, then you're in luck because Mythology Candles has all of those scents in candle form.
B
Even Sasquatch's smelly feet.
A
Well, not really his smelly feet, but they do have a Sasquatch candle. So go to mythologycandles.com that's mythology spelled with ie at the end and use code cosmos for 10% off your order. I was reading in William Googe of Domestical Duties the other day, as one does. As one does, and he was saying in his qualifications for marriage. I promise that we're getting to something here in his qualifications for Marriage that any witch who has committed a witch's Sabbath with her familiar spirit demon is not qualified for marriage.
C
Wow.
A
That was like one of the points that he very intentionally said. Like witches communion with devils means that they're not qualified to be married.
B
People have done this like ever. Like it's come up.
A
Yeah. Like even if they repent because it's intimate in nature. So what I'm trying to say is, seems like, maybe that lady, like, conjured up something.
B
I think that she.
A
Shadow man. Like, that is so, so creepy.
B
People mess around. It's getting more. And. And it is wild how you see the connection between the spiritual and also then later the human evil of violence. And demons don't want good for you. And so when you open the door to them in your life, they might promise good things. You might think, oh, I'm gonna get power. I'm gonna do this thing. I'm just curious. And then the next thing you know, they are there.
A
Yeah, that is true.
B
And they won't leave.
A
Like, you wonder how many women or men, I guess, get, like, spell books and do the pentagram thing. And it's like, you know, we're not one to say whether or not there's some formula that will just, like, force the dark spirit's hand. And they now have to come. But if they notice that that's what the person is wanting, that's what they're inviting in, why would they not latch onto that? And how many people. We see that with Ouija board stuff. How many people do that thinking it's not a big deal or, like, this will be fun. And they. And they end up weighing over their head. Like, she's immediately terrified of.
C
For sure. I. I think. I don't know. I guess the way I've always kind of thought about it is, like, not that there is necessarily a formula other than you're doing something.
A
Yeah.
C
Displaying the desire for this.
A
You're asking.
C
Yeah. You're asking for it. And I think it doesn't matter how you ask for it. You know, once you, like, are like, nope, this is what I want to happen, it's probably gonna start happening.
B
Yeah.
A
You know, even if you're. Even if you're not a true believer, it's like in Last Battle when. What's that Calormen general's name.
B
I can't remember his name.
A
Who's like, he doesn't believe in Tash or whatever. But. But it's like you've summoned Tash to Tash to Tasha. Go. And you start believing then.
B
Yeah.
A
Pretty quick.
B
Yep. They called upon a monster they didn't believe.
C
Yeah.
B
In these cases, it's even combined with. In many cases, the witchy stuff today. They believe it.
A
Yeah.
B
They're not even. Like, some of them are messing around and for fun. But a lot of witches, they start with, like, white magic. They start with. They think that they're just getting in touch with some generally benevolent spiritual energy. They're Seeking healing. A lot of the time, they don't all. They don't all start by saying, I'm gonna curse my enemies.
A
Right?
B
They start with, if I do this sage, and I get this, and I can have bad spirits go away, good spirits come in. They can bring me mental clarity, healing for my illnesses. And it's not even that. They never can bring some of those things or the illusion of them. It's that the pathway that you've started down is a pathway that may wear a nice face at first.
C
Well, that stuff is, like, so much. It seems so much more common. I felt like when I was growing up, or even as an adult 10 years ago, that stuff was kind of a joke. Oh, you got your crystals, you're going to do your, you know, whatever. But, like, I can't tell you how many houses I go into now where, like, you're walking up to the door and you're like, crystals hanging around the door, and there's a little stuff taped up. And then you've got, like. I remember going into this one house. It was. It was a guy that had died, but every doorway in the house was, like, lined with these, like, stones and crystals, like. Like along the top of the door. The door frame.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Their charms and their talismans and actually back medieval history in mainland Europe, there started to be some syncretism happening in rural areas where the doctrine of the church wasn't as explicitly either proclaimed or people weren't held to it as strictly. And they started to do white magic with the church and with Christians, where they would walk around the field and they would have witch cakes that they'd make to bless the yield of the field, or they would sing songs to control the motion of bees between hives and stuff like that. And then it quickly spiraled out of control. Where they started basically started being very superstitious. And then it got into what we would call as overt black magic. But at the end of the day, it kind of leads back to the source. And you're like, really? All magic is black magic. It's all the same.
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, that even gets into. And I think, Ben, you and I have talked about this, but, like, the Appalachian folk magic, some of that stuff. And I mean, like, even. Even. It's crazy how common things like dousing for wells is. You know what I mean? Like that. Because where I grew up, everybody had well water. It was way out, you know, kind of out in the country. And so, like, that was a really just. Oh, you're buying a house. Yeah. Hey, call this guy. He'll find your well for you.
A
Get the water diviner.
C
And I've heard from multiple different. Like whether it be parts of my family or, or different people I knew, but like there were people in the community who are known that like, oh, this guy was in a bad car wreck, he's in the hospital bleeding. Hey, call this guy because he can stop bleeding. Like he can come like whisper some. And sometimes it was like Bible verses or something. He'd like whisper something in their ear and like could stop bleeding and that kind of stuff. Like weird stuff that gets like passed down. But not everybody knows how it works. But yeah, there seems to be a general knowledge that that kind of thing happens.
A
Wow.
B
We walked past a. Lexi and I were on a date, historic 25th Street. And it's dark because it was after the kids were down. And I see this stand up there and a woman's sitting behind it. There was another woman in front of it, like a customer. And then her boyfriend or husband or something was right behind her. And they getting closer. I'm like, oh, they're doing a tarot reading. They're doing some kind of like witchy stuff, tarot stuff. And I was just like praying right then as we walked by. I was like, lord, please just let like the Holy Spirit completely interrupt this as we walk by and like glitched the whole. Don't know what happened. This is a totally anti climatic story. But maybe it screwed it up. I was thinking of all of the stories of witches who will say like when this guy walked in, I couldn't do anything.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
And it's just a Christian, like that happens too. It shows you the spiritual reality behind some of these things, but also how common they're getting. Like you walk down your main street and you're like, oh, they're calling on demons.
A
We've had multiple self proclaimed witches come into the church and talk to pastors. I was stopped by a lady in the parking lot not too long ago and she was like, hey, I'm just like very oppressed. Can you give me some holy water? I was like, I can pray for you, but no, I'm not gonna give you. We don't do that. We don't do that here.
C
Yeah.
A
She was like, no thanks. I really am not interested in being prayed for. Maybe I'll go check the Catholic church down the street, see if they'll give.
B
Me some holy water.
A
I was like, okay, yeah, I mean you can go check, but I'LL still pray for you.
B
Yeah. Whether you like it or not, this.
A
Is going to be without.
C
Yeah.
B
Without.
A
I will be praying for you.
B
Praying for you specifically.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
It's just crazy. I also think it's wild that people a lot of times dismiss things as just drugs. And it's not that drugs aren't involved. Drugs are often involved routinely, as you know, better than. Than anyone in this room. But the idea that because drugs are involved, there is no other layer.
A
Yeah.
B
What a huge, huge lie.
A
Well, I think, you know, the DMT stuff has convinced me.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
That. That is absolutely a bogus thing to.
B
To.
A
To. To think so. Yeah. Wow. Very, very crazy stories. Just like pure creep. Like.
C
Yeah, it is creepy.
A
God, it's just so creepy. But Ray, thank you so much.
B
Thanks for coming, for coming on.
A
Really appreciate it. Thank you for giving us your time.

So pretty much since like question 26 or something. All the instruments, the mixing, mastering, that's all Ray. So he's very, very talented. Super thankful to have him around. But also apparently fights demons in his spare time. So. With a Glocky Glock.

Haunted Cosmos – Episode Summary
Episode Title: Police Officer Confronts Demons, Witches, and Poltergeists!
Date: October 29, 2025
Hosts: Ben Garrett (A), Brian Sauvé (B)
Guest: Ray ("C"), Police Officer and Musician
In this chilling installment of Haunted Cosmos, Ben and Brian sit down with Ray, a police officer and detective who shares his firsthand accounts of supernatural encounters on the job. From haunted Mormon churches to a witch's house possessed by a shadowy entity, Ray’s stories push the boundaries between the natural and spiritual. The episode explores the intersection of law enforcement and the paranormal, questions about the prevalence of occult practices, and the dark consequences of dabbling with the unknown.

The conversation is candid, sometimes humorous but deeply unsettling, matching the "graveyard shift" theme. The hosts balance wisecracks (“Are you the Mothman?” [03:27]), skepticism, and genuine unease, while Ray’s cop perspective grounds the stories in unnerving realism.
